Plenty of Alchemist around (DM Mstitt)  d20=11 ; d20=16 ;
Tuesday November 15th, 2016 9:04:53 PM

Dorbin peeks out the door then turns back. He then suggests they move to a fairly empty corner of the Golden Goose.
Stohp concedes and agrees to stay within the club and question Xander.
Micah watches the crowd as they enjoy the music. By now, another singer has began to sing. (OOC: Your choice - you can roll a D20 to see if the music suits you)
K turns Xander around and says
"We actually just came here for your help." He produces the granules from the drink they found earlier. "A friend of ours was found dead this morning. This stuff in his favorite cup is our best clue. We wanted an alchemist to look at it."
Bart scans the crowd for anything unusual but the crowd bounces away to the new music. This seem very different then most taverns. The long bartending counters were gone. There were more, sharpy-dressed, taurs walking around the dancing patrons serving drinks. Everyone seem more inclined to dance then socialize.

“This tells me nothing,” Xander shoots back. “It looks like you have small, crushed up leaves in a -what is that your holding? It could be anything. I don’t have any of my tools to examine it. There are plenty of alchemist that could tell you what it is. Why are accosting me? What do I have to do with any of this?”

“The side door bangs open loudly and someone enters but you see no one. Some of the female patrons squalk and move out of the way. “Oi... I can’t believe I have to come out to this place. Why did you have to agree to be a house rat for these…” That’s when you see the small, mouse-like rat folk. Oscar steps forward and delivers the note to Stohp. “I would give you a verbal message but I can’t hear a darned thing.”
Note from the Brassy McGurk
Hi group,
First thing, I want to thank you for all the work you have done for the people of the Fence. Not sure where you’re at right now but I’m sure you’re doing some good. Your little friend, from you warehouse is a bit spunky. I’ll tell you this He knows how to clean.
Anyways, so my niece has been singing your praises since you left. She is the sweetest… but I’m getting distracted. A new gentlemen is interested in joining your group, he is an elf and has some amazing talents. Please be kind because I’m insisting a bit… well… my niece likes him.. DON’T TELL HIM!.
Anyways… I had him follow your little rat friend Oscar.
Thanks, Brass”

Sid leans back against the wall of the building in a little shade where the door won't open on him and watches the crowd crowd around him, relaxed but alert. He rubs the nub of his left pinky, in both nervousness and excitement and hums very softly to himself. He felt the comforting weight of his gear around him and smiled and thought to himself, "It's been too long since I've done something besides sling drinks," and waited.

'Phew, nothing in the ally. Well except for Oscar.', Zander thinks to himself looking back at the group talking to Xander in the corner. Noticing he looks a little out of sorts Zander doesn't buy his story for a moment, otherwise why would he run? But he gets distracted by Oscar running past him and back out. Asking Oscar on his way out he learns that somebody wants to join them. 'I guess I'll look after the new guy.'

Looking around the alley out back he says, "You sure you told him to wait out here? Where did he go?"

"And I am Micah Smith," says the priest with a slight bow, his amulet of Domi swinging from his neck as he does so. Micah has encountered customers in his father's forge who are no nonsense people and suspects Xander is one of those.

When Dorbin exclaims his news, he pointedly looks more closely at Xander's hands, but does not mention it further.

Rather, he then looks Xander in the eye and says, "Adding to what my colleague, K, has said. We would not travel from the fence to waste your time....or ours. Nor would we travel in such large numbers were there not serious cause. Sid waits outside as Oscar runs into the building. He rubs the nub of his left pinky partially nervous and excited. He thinks to himself. "It's been too long since I've done something besides sling drinks," and waited. Outside the Golden Goose, with the huge goose on the front of the building the side of the building is a bit plain. The paint is chipped and faded. Above your head are a row of open windows with busy people passing by.
Zander is relieved there is nothing in else the ally. Zander is suspicious of this alchemist but gets distracted by the house rat, Oscar. Zander is the first to volunteer to look after Sid but he doesn’t see him.
Zander sees that the group is doing well with Xander and he looks for Sid. Sid seems to be quite the magician.
Sense Motive vs DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {Xander stands stiffly as K releases him. Xander listens, at least he looks to be listening. He seems very interested as K explains the situation. }
Micah introduces himself. “Ah, a brother of Domi. I have great respect for the teaching of Domi. You must have faith in yourself.”
Micah then adds "Adding to what my colleague, K, has said. We would not travel from the fence to waste your time....or ours. Nor would we travel in such large numbers were there not serious cause. “And this fella, does he have a name? How did he die? Was it quiick… nah it wouldn’t of been quick. It would of been painful if what’s in the bag is what I think. I’m thinking he vomited over and over.. That’s usually what happens.”
Dorbin notices the alchemists hands were dirty and Xander promptly folds them behind his back. “Oh,” Xander replied. “I’m sure it was murder. You don’t use arsenic for anything else. At least not anything I can think of.”

Sid waits outside the front of the Golden Goose for Oscar or one of the Silver Shields to come out. He thinks to himself, "I don't know why I had to wait outside, but I'm sure the Bossman had a reason." Sid rubs a hand reflectively over the wall, feeling how rough or smooth it is, and pushes away. He looks up with interest at the sign and the open windows. He had heard of the Gaudy Goose, but usually doesn't run around the Gold Level, so hadn't seen it properly until now. Sid takes in the building absently noting ways to climb or swing up to the higher stories, and looks into the open windows upstairs and the people going about their business there.

He pauses momentarily to scan his heart for evil intent then approaches the elf, his chainmail clinking as always under his tunic bearing the crest of Domi and a WLA badge. At his side hang a longsword, war hammer, and sap and a sturdy shield is strapped to his back. As he approaches he gives a warm smile, he carries himself well and has the powerful physique and good looks common to paladins of Domi. Holding forth his hand he greets the newcomer, ""I take it you must be the one Oscar brought who hopes to join us? My names Zanderallen, the rest of the group is inside. What The Alchemist Says (DM Cayzle)
Thursday November 17th, 2016 10:53:28 PM

Bartomus checks in and sees that the alchemist has confidently revealed that he does recognize the poison. Some alchemical arsenic concoction.

Sid looks around to get a feel for the lay of the land, but he is distracted by Zanderallen's invitation to stand guard at the door as the alchemist is questioned.

Zanderallen by the way discerns that Sid's heart is pure. Relatively, at least.

Dorbin asks, "Arsenic? And where does one get arsenic, might I ask? Would you happen to have a supply?" The alchemist replies, "Oh, here and there. Can't expect me to reveal secrets of the trade!"

Stohp is more direct. "We heard that you might be able to point us at who might have access to such a thing." Xander nods. "Sure, sure. That kind of information is not free ... and how do I know you will not use the information for ... evil?

K wonders, "Is this guy hiding something?" Maybe? He also wonders why SId is here.

Micah thinks that the arsenic explanation makes sense. Well, it explains HOW, but not WHY ...

The crowd seems content to let the registered adventurers be about their work. Since no blood has been spilt, likely no one much cares.

Bartomus too has suspicions. But he cannot sense whether they have merit. Certainly, this Zander fellow is confident, and also unaware that his behavior is raising questions.

Xander thinks things over and seems to come to a conclusion. "Look, I want to help, and you seem like nice fellows. I suggest your search would be most fruitful in the Trash Level. There are definitely dealers in poisons there that could supply you with arsenic. Not that you are in the market, amirite?" He winks with a slow, droopy eyelid.

"Oh, hello," Sid says taking his hand and giving it as firm a shake as he can, bracing himself for the inevitable squeeze. "Sid," he says, looking to see if he remembers him at all. "Journey Bowyer who is looking to expand his opportunities in live, and maybe do some good along the way." Sid breaks the grip and leans on the wall where he was before, keeping an eye on the door and behind Zanderallen's. "Is everything alright? Who or what are we looking out for?"

Didn't leave too much to work with, though. K was too pretty to walk down to the trash level and start asking around for information on poison. He's pretty sure no one would give him the time of day.

This elf looked shifty, maybe he could do something.

Micah rolled his eyes when Xander proposed the group might use it for evil. When Bartomus suggests a more direct approach, he hides the appeal this course of action has to him.

Instead he says, "The trash level is too broad an answer. We are interested in solving a murder, not a neighborhood clean up campaign. Can you be more precise in where we might find purveyors of this poison? More importantly, can you give us any suggestions as to how we might track down someone who had purchased it?

After a moment's reflection, he adds, "Also, we have heard some rumors of other things going on in the trash. Are there other effects besides fatality that use of arsenic might produce?"

The victim had documents hidden referring to a Crimson. Our investigation of the term brought us to this level; to you. What do you know of Crimson?"

What The Alchemist Says (DM Cayzle)
Saturday November 19th, 2016 1:09:09 AM

Sid introduces himself.

Zanderallen returns his greeting, explains that the group seeks information on a poisoning, and invites the new fellow in.

Dorbin feels sure that Xander is trying to misdirect you, or at least not talk about some topic he prefers to avoid.

K is glad to have used this fellow to gain vital information. Yes, Matteus the Seer was poisoned, by arsenic. As for Xander's other secrets ... maybe let them stay secret?

Bart is not ready to leave Xander to his own devices, and in fact is a little more than somewhat threatening!

Xander grimaces and just looks at Bart.

Micah allows the threat to stand, and wants more detail.

Xander looks at Micah. "You're some spellcaster, right? You got other casters? So use your magic to locate the same formulation of arsenic-based poison as you have here. You want a deal on Locate Object scrolls?"

Stohp wants to know about "Crimson."

Xander laughs. "The only "Crimson" I know is the nobleman on the Overlord's Council. Probably HE'S your murderer!"

Stohp is a bit disappointed at the flippant response. Either Xander is a truly amazing actor, or he knows nothing about the plot or the death. She remembered the noble Crimson (knowledge: local 20), but this didn't get them any closer to proving he was involved; she had hoped Xander would have been the source of the poison and that he'd spill his guts when confronted. Dorbin sees the dirty look and watches as Xander tries to hide the substance (perception: 24). When he sees Xander touch the leaf, he jumps back defensively out of range of Xander's hands. He calls out, "Watch out! He's got something hidden there and I think he's about to use it on us!"

He will attempt to cast mage hand and shove the bag away from Xander and towards a nearby wall.

K, perceptive as always, fails to see anything fall until his companions react to it. He notes the curious mix of reactions from his companions.

"We're all on totally different pages here," he thinks to himself. Outwardly, he sighs and looks to Xander. "Just not your day, is it buddy?" he quips. He waits to see what his companions make of the bag he dropped.

Only slightly more perceptive than the eagle-eyed K, Zander misses everything. Except the fact the Xander is scrambling to find any reason he can push to get rid of them. He tenses as Dorbin yells a warning and Bart moves to pick something up, ready to tackle Xander if he makes any sudden movements. "Ok, everyone let's keep our heads. Xander I think you have some explaining to do." 'First step in potentially hostile negotiations, try to keep everyone calm and thinking clearly but be ready to act.', he reminds himself from his training.

Small Fry (DM Mstitt)
Tuesday November 22nd, 2016 9:05:53 PM

Within all this growing tension Oscar rolls in and trips over his own feet. He slides to a stop just before Xander’s feet. “What are you doing!” Xander shouted. “Do you know what could happen…” He then suddenly stopped as the little Rat-like man stood. His face covered in dirt.
“Did I sign up for this?” He asks as he spits dirt from his mouth. “Oi… You all must be a popular group ‘cause I have another one for you. I left him outside but he followed me. Gentlemen and woman...well… um… you know.. I don’t.. This is Sugar, a bard from Brass. Brassy suggested you treat him well because his niece liked him.. Oh wait… it says on the note not to tell you that... anyways…” Oscar turned to leave then stopped. “I’m not leading anymore up here. Have you been on that Esca Ladder? I almost got caught in the folding stairs twice. Twice! That contraption is a death sentence for someone but… I am going on it one more time.” Oscar then said goodbye and waded through all the dancing people. On the stage was a centaur and a small elf, dressed in red singing holiday songs. The whole tavern seemed to know all the words. It was getting very loud. (OOC: Welcome Tim to the game :) We are once again full.)

Sid whispered his suspicions about Xander to Zander. He tries to recall this Winmore Crimson fellow and remembers something about a junior advisor to the Overlord was just selected due to the death of a senior member. The newer advisors stayed on the Gold Level in what was usually called the Palace.
Dorbin watches as Xander tries to manipulate the bag to avoid anyone touching it.
Bart offered to pick up the bag and Xander shouted at him. “Don’t touch that! You do not have the proper skills to handle such a thing!” Xander attempted to shield the object with his feet. “This ignorant, old alchemist has done a very bad thing,” he admitted. “Please, don’t touch it.” He said, his shoulders slumped. “Please don’t move it. If you do many of these people here will eventually die.
K thinks the group is on different pages as he looks at Xander. “Just not your day, is it buddy?”
“My days have come and gone,” Xander admitted.
Stohp feels a bit embarrassed for not searching Xander. Stohp puts a hand on him but the alchemist is almost ready to fall, not run. He steadies himself and carefully lifts the bag from floor of the tavern. He then pulls out a tiny broom to ensure he has everything.
Zander adds, "Ok, everyone let's keep our heads. Xander I think you have some explaining to do."
“You see,” Xander began, “I am but a little fish in the pond here. I’m afraid many innocent people have already died because of my actions. I do not know what to do to stop it. I helped to create the chaos in the Trash level. It became too much and I ran. I was stopped by a minotaur on my way back through the Fence level. He had heard of me, apparently, and asked me for some arsenic. I’m afraid I may have also been responsible for your friends death too. I need to sit.”

Sid purses his lips at all of this and walks back to Zanderallen, being the only one he has been introduced to formally, and taps his shoulder, and whispering again, a little louder, says, "I don't know if you heard me but, here was an incident some months ago where this gentleman was tied into someone who died clutching his chest. He's fought with a few people about it and was never taken in though there was talk of murder AND I remember something about a Junior Advisor to the Overlord who just got a promotion because of a timely death. I think his name was, um, ah Winmore Crismon!" When Sid hears the last of what the deflated Xander says, he starts looking around the tavern for anyone who might want to turn this little songbird into a canary.

Bartomus frozen when Xander told him not to touch the fallen bag. He glared at the alchemist. Bartomus stepped away from the bag and watched as Xander picked it up and then swept up any remains that might have slipped out. He listened to Xander and then looked over at the others.

"Xander, what did this other Taur look like?"

Liam "Sugar" Deckard] [HP:26/26 AC:14/12 CMB:+3 CMD:14]
Wednesday November 23rd, 2016 1:12:15 PM

At Oscar's introduction, Liam raises his right hand, weighted by four rings, and gives a lazy, flick of a salute to the group, followed immediately by a wink. He then leans against the nearest wall, folds his arms, and watches the interaction with this Xander fellow. Liam was only a bit irked that Oscar had introduced him as Sugar. Only his dearest friends or acquaintances at the "Giggling Ghost" knew him by that name and these folks were clearly strangers and obviously preoccupied. He brushed it off, thinking to himself; Interrogation, if that's what's happening here, is a balanced dance between diplomacy and intimidation, a ritual with rules, enhanced by the willingness to know ones subject and be committed to take the dance to its conclusion.

Having missed the significance of what Sid said the first time, Zanderallen takes full note of it the second time. They finally had a break in the case and it looked like part of something a whole lot bigger. His eyes closely follow the bag as Xander gathers it up, his palms getting sweaty his mind runs through what kind of deadly poison it might contain. Hoping Xander still has a reason to live he continues reasoning with him, "Xander, it sounds like you've been mixed up in some bad business. You will have to face that but you can start making it right by helping us get to the bottom of it. And it's probably in your best interest to work with us as we have a reason to keep you alive while the people you were working with now view you as a loose end. We're going to need to know who hired you and what they had you do in the Trash level." Zander then speaks to the group in general and their current mission leader Stohp in particular, "How do you want to handle this everyone? Xander looks like he ready to cooperate, right Xander? And he is probably a target."

Drawing his shoulders back and speaking firmly but softly, he continues, [b]"Xander, there is no probably about it. You are a target now. Target Xander (DM Mstitt)
Wednesday November 23rd, 2016 9:07:06 PM

Sid purses his lips and adds his recollections to Zander. "I don't know if you heard me but, here was an incident some months ago where this gentleman was tied into someone who died clutching his chest. He's fought with a few people about it and was never taken in though there was talk of murder AND I remember something about a Junior Advisor to the Overlord who just got a promotion because of a timely death. I think his name was, um, ah Winmore Crismon!"
Outside of the group many residents of the Gold level danced to music being sung from a group of elves. Outside of the groups of people dancing you can see a couple lion-taurs standing, armed with bows. They don’t quite fit in but they seem to be slightly interested in what’s going on.
(OOC: D20 to roll to see if you like the music)
Zander takes note of what Sid just said. He watches Xander closely and starts to become anxious. "Xander, it sounds like you've been mixed up in some bad business.
“Ready to cooperate?” Xander asks rhetorically. “Well, when you cross Winmore Crimson there is not much left to live for. The plot… I bet you want to know the plot for the residents of the Trash level. I don’t know that exactly. When you’re in my business clients don’t exactly trust you with that information. All I know is it’s not good. Utter horror.”
Micah wonders if that minotaur was Shredds but keeps that thought to himself.
Bart froze and glared at Xander. He stepped away as the mess was carefully cleaned up. He asked about the taur Xander met.
Xander secured the bag and put it back in his pocket. “He was a fine gentleman. Very sharply dressed. It looked like he was quite successful. Not someone I would expect to poison someone. For that you want someone like me. A bit crazy.”
Dorbin remains silent and keeps his distance. Xander finds a seat. He doesn’t seem to be interested in fleeing or causing any more suffering.
Suger raises his right hand and salutes the group, followed by a wink. He then gets comfortable and watches. He was a bit irked over the introduction but maybe Oscar just assumed.. That’s always bad ;) He recognized the dance that was this interrogation.
K notices Liam and jokes? About setting recruitment hours. He is relieved they are getting some truth. "Even on The Fence, the guards law murder somewhat seriously. Selling arsenic definitely less so. If he helps us, even if it's just IDing Shredds as the one who bought the arsenic, we could probably put in a good word for him.”
Xander smiled, just slightly. “A good word, what’s that worth now-a-days?”
Micah prays. He then introduces himself to Liam ”Sugar” "Sugar, I am Micah. A pleasure to meet you I am sure, but now is not the time for pleasantries. You and Sid here come well recommended and that will suffice."
He advises Xander that he is indeed a target and asks for a summary.
Xander took in a breath. “There is a new poison, it’s a nasty recipe...well… let me clarify that. It’s not a poison but an infection. It’s passed through the air or by contact or at least it was until I adjusted the formula to reduce the likelihood of an airborne infection. I’m telling you that was tough. They were Cytillesh spores.”
Knowledge: Nature vs DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: { Cytillesh is a dangerous type of fungus also known as brain mold. It gives off a bright blue glow equivalent to torchlight.}
“I had to go a long way for those. Anyways, there is another alchemist that goes by the name of Bruce. He should still be in the Trash level, for what, I don’t know. He mixed up the recipe and pushed into the hands of a couple residents. I couldn’t do that, you see. I could not do this to those poor people.”

He shook his head and turned about noticing that Oscar was leaving, having not realized he was in fact there. Looking about, he notices two others new to the party and nods at them both.

Xander watches you nervously. "I don't know how you found me. I don't care. Now I'm stuck." He is thoughtful, his eyes darting. "Sure," he says at last, "I'll ID the minotaur. Some Fence Level thug, sure. He was a bully, so he deserves it."

He looks around nervously. Dorbin sees that the liontaurs are coming closer, weapons out. Xander whispers, "But look here, I can't do any more against Crimson. That's messing with powers above my head. If I said any more, that's my death sentence."

The liontaurs approach, by chance, closest to Liam. "You and your friends are disrupting the performance. We're asking you nicely to leave now."

Xander gets up to go. He hands the leaves to Stohp. "It's the antidote for what's down in the Trash. Chew it before you're exposed, chew it after. Gods have mercy on me. I can't help you any more."

Bart and Liam leave too, with a bit of attitude.

K, Sid, Dorbin, Micah and Zanderallen leave without a word; Zanderallen is last out the door.

Outside, the entirety of the Float is open to the Silver Shields. There are still questions left unanswered a-plenty: What IS happening in the Trash Level? How is Shredds involved? Who is this Crimson fellow? Who is dealing poison in the Float? How does Oscar always seem able to track you down? When is Mask Day anyway -- tomorrow??? Do the Hands have anything planned for that? Bartomus followed along with the others as the left the Goose and headed back to HQ. He kept his eyes opened for a mask that he could wear for Mask Day. There were vendors about with such things, but he was looking for something that reflected his connection to Eberyon. He could afford something, and when done he could hang it on the wall in his portion used for his bunk in HQ.

As he was looking about, he lost sight of the newbe Elf that had been with them wearing a cloak and rapier. Rapiers must be of fashion of late, he thought to himself as looked back at the younger male that had joined them. The man was tall, with locks of hair touched with gray too early and ears sporting jewerly of various sorts that played off the ornate embroidery in the man's black leather wardrobe. Bartomus shook his head, [i] that costed him a pretty mound of coin.[/]

"So, is it really Sugar," Bartomus asked loud enough for the other newbie to hear him. "Your name that is? What brought you over to the Shields? Was it for the pay?"

We're not exactly being kind, compassionate ambassadors out there. We barged into a live musical performance, caused a ruckus, and a few of us weren't exactly gracious when asked to leave."

I suppose women like the way it rolls off the tongue; bonus. Remaining confident yet calm Sugar continues to answer. A suggestion really, a lark, looking for a change of pace on this layer cake. In all honesty, I don't know much about you lads, the Shields, so lemme stroll a bit, see if this works for both of us; all involved. ... 'works out? great. If not, I'll seek a new path. As for pay?... I've scrounged and lived by wit all my life; except for the sliver spoon parts. Coin is great, but it doesn't drive me.

Zanderallen is pensive as they head back. He's glad they have new members interested in them but this current investigation just got a whole lot more complicated. Sometimes he wished they weren't in the city, especially one whose guards seemed rather lax in their duties. He thought they hadn't done too bad all things considered but their approach had been a little heavy handed for a theater. To some degree their hand had been forced by Xander's actions. The dangers of being a group of 8. It is hard to be inconspicuous.

What Has Gone Before (DM Cayzle)
Monday November 28th, 2016 6:22:38 PM

Led by the group's cleric, Micah, the party heads back home to pause and breathe. A lot has happened, and the Silver Shields needs a moment to digest and consider. Especially Liam the Bard and Sid the Rogue, who seem a bit lost, understandably.

The adventurers leave the Gold Level and descend by one of the three Great Stairs down past the Merchant Level, past the Barracks Level, and then to the Fence Level. As you descend level by level, you are reminded that the Big Float is not just physically stratified, but culturally stratified too. On the Open Air Level, the highest strata of society live and play, and are served by their lessers, who work there but live lower down. The Gold Level is home to the bourgeoisie, the the working wealthy and middle class, skilled artisans, doctors, lawyers, goldsmiths, bureaucrats, famous heroes, and so on -- you recently saw Three Mansion here, where a retired Dragon Consortium group makes one of their homes. The Merchant Level is for the common artisans, coopers, ironmongers, traders, and such. The Barracks level is for laborers, servants, and especially men at arms; it is, in a way, a bulwark against the unsavory elements below. There are guards on the stairs of these levels, to ensure that the riff-raff do not rise above their station.

You reach the Fence Level, and of course there are no guards here. Instead, sailors and teamsters, butchers and coopers and fisherfolk walk around with clubs and shields. People stick together in groups of two or more, unless their reputations protect them. And you know all this well, because this is your home.

(Let us not consider the "Sewer of the Float", the Trash Level, where a dead man's value is weighed by the pound, where your gang -- if you are lucky enough to belong to one -- is what keeps you safe, where the City Guard visits only by the platoon, and only rarely.)

You walk the byways of the Fence to the street you know best, "Lakeview Passage." And indeed, the views of the lake here are fine. As always, there are fisherfolk and everyday people leaning on the railings and dropping fishing lines down into the waters. It is a good thing that the Float not only floats, but actually moves around the surface of the lake, since that way the fishing remains good as the city moves about.

Once upon a time, there was a warehouse here on Lakeview Passage, home to a demented druid, a rat-lover, who had a plan to use his swarms of rats to ruin the business of the Fence and grant him the satisfaction of revenge. But the Silver Shields defeated this madman, and has taken over that warehouse. This is the headquarters of the Silver Shields. [OOC: Please click here for the floorplan of the Silver Shields HQ.]

Inside, on the first floor, the ceiling is high, and even taurs can relax and stretch out. The Silver Shields talk over recent events, and spell out what has happened, as well as what may come next.

A friend of the group, a seer with one eye named Mattheus, was murdered, it turns out, by poison. The seer's friend, Eldrich, alerted the party to the suspicious death, but he has not yet heard the latest developments that the party has uncovered.

Mattheus evidently had a connection to a noble named Crimson, who he was nervous about but also thought might help him. The party found an alchemist, named Xander, who was related to all this somehow. He is very afraid of this Crimson, with whom he has dealings. This Xander really gets his toes in nefarious activities. He has helped spread some kind of toxin or plague on the Trash Level -- and he may be the one who provided the poison that killed Mattheus! The actual poisoner may be a minotaur, and may be a minotaur the party knows, a bully, bookmaker, and gang leader on the Fence named Shredds.

In addition to all this, it is MASK DAY! That's the annual holiday wherein the Underlord walks through the entire Float from the Trash to the Open Air. There, he releases 20 undercrats who have served the Underlord for 20 years, and the Underlord then assumes the role of Overlord, while the former Overlord assumes the role of Underlord. The new Underlord travels back down to the Trash, and on his way, he picks out 20 people to be the next 20 Undercrats and to serve the Big Float for 20 years.

The tradition is that all the people wear a mask in order to fool the new Undercrat and thereby not be chosen! That really does not work, but the holiday persists as a huge celebration of anonymity, in which all people in the Float are free to go anywhere in the city, in a bit of a bacchanalia. Some of the party already have masks ready.

To make matters more complicated, you have heard that the Hands of Love, a cult of the goddess of passion, have some plan to make trouble or advance their agenda on Mask Day. And in addition, if there is a plague on the Trash Level, how will that affect the Mask Day proceedings?

All that comes to a boil tomorrow, on Mask Day! And in the short time remaining before the festivities begin, what will you Silver Shields choose to do?

Sid glances to the windows and building tops and wishes he had his longbow and thinks to himself, "I'll get it at home tonight. I have to start a bow for Elly soon too. Hmmm." He keeps scanning the crowd and the building tops.

Monday November 28th, 2016 6:58:23 PM

Sid relaxes when they get their guy out of the open. "Oh," he says out loud, "I always thought this was just a warehouse. Cozy." He turns to Zanderallen, "So, do you guys live here or is this just your shopfront?"

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 1:49:02 AM

Bartomus enjoyed the view as they descended back down to the Fence level. He looked about and followed the others to the Shield HQ. He needed to find a mask, it was Mask Day and everyone needs a mask to avoid being found by the Underlord. As they walked back into the HQ, Sid asked about how the building was used.

"Sid, I have only been with the Shields for a few days. I know we can stay here and Oscar has taken on the role of butler and steward for all of us." The taur said as he looked about.

Dorbin [AC:13/13/10 HP:17/17 CMD:14]
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 9:10:55 AM

When the group returns to the warehouse that Dorbin is starting to think of as home, he looks out for Oscar, then finds some food to feed to Emily. He mumbles, "Would anyone really notice much of a plague on the trash level?"

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 15/12/12 CMB: +5 CMD: 14
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 2:32:12 PM

On the way back Stohp considers and concedes K's point. "It's a fine line. I suspect it's partially our current mission. It's easy to be suspicious and short with people when local lords may be involved in murder plots. At the same time perhaps we are being to polite. Xander was a murder suspect and fled at the sight of us. If we had taken the reasonable precaution of searching him, we might have finished our business more quickly and caused less disruption."

Once back she takes a moment to relax and sends for a few messengers; local people she knows and trusts not to peak in the letters. She writes to letters, the first is to the guard, outlying the death of Mattheus, the suspicious circumstances, and what they've learned about his poisoning and a possibility of plague being spread in the lower levels of the city. Included will be a small amount of the cure so they can synthesize more if needed. She does not mention Crimson; they don't have any evidence or proof yet, and committing such accusations on paper is dangerous. The second letter is to Eldritch, informing him of everything they've discovered so far. This one does mention that a nobleman might be involved, but not the name; again, dangerous to write such things down.

Once finished she shows the letters to the others to insure no one has anything to add or objects to the idea.

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 15/10/15 CMD:14
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 3:46:33 PM

Micah reads the letters Stohp has penned. He frowns slightly as he shares his thoughts, "I doubt the guards will do much with this, but informing them is probably for the best. I like that you kept it vague. I would expect that bribes are a common means of obtaining any information they have."

He pauses in thought a bit before continuing, "I would like to tell Eldritch in person, but sending a note is a good compromise. For not being together long, there sure seems to suddenly be many demands for our attention."

"Speaking of which: Given their prior interest in Brisselda, and knowing that something is planned by the Hands tomorrow, I am inclined to check in on them."

"Any thoughts as to what we should do or where we should be for Mask Day?" he asks to the rest of ther group.

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 4:09:00 PM

K nods as Stohp responds. "Thanks for listening. Can't promise I'll hold my tongue if anyone smart-mouths the locals again. I'm not too good at keeping my cool...but I guess you know that already." He gives the taur a slight smile as he does. He may be stubborn, but when K forgives someone, he takes it seriously.

"Good job so far, by the way. I may have been wrong about you."

***

"We just saw Brizzie this morning. I doubt anything's happened by now. Anyway, I think we're forgetting there are two strangers here."

He turns to Sid and "Sugar". K made an effort to cover up his own ridiculous name. The fact that someone would embrace such a nickname confused him. "I'm K, servant of Flower (ooc: Flower is the goddess of romantic and familial love). Why don't you tell us more about yourselves now that we're not interrogating an alchemist & being chased out of a concert?"

Bartomus [(Rod) HP: 13/20 AC: 13 (11+2)]
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 4:15:14 PM

Bartomus listened to the discussion and took a chair when K asked the two new, new comers to introduce themselves. Sugar seemed to be looking for an adventure, but Sid had remained a mystery. He also found his mind turning back on the fact that he really needed to find a mask for the following day's festivities.

Liam "Sugar" Deckard [HP:26/26 AC:14/12 CMB:+3 CMD:14]
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 6:23:50 PM

Liam couldn't help but smirk at the suggestion that he introduce himself. A captive audience was all too easy for the bard. Still, he didn't know where this was going, what this group looked to achieve or how he would fit into that plan, so he made the split-second decision to keep his introduction relatively conservative. Liam left the wall he was leaning on and began to walk around the new environ as he spoke.

Liam "Sugar—to my friends" Deckard, born only a stone's throw on this very level. Fishing in the summer, Liar's dice in the winter. Dad is a fishmonger, still works at the Dead End Fish Market. Discounts provided for those with enough coin to grease the right palm. Mum, well, mum is complicated; from performer and aspiring actress on the Fence, to Lady Vittoria on the Open Air. Lofty. That was my childhood, twixt and tween. One might say I've lived two lives, pauper and prince.

So, how does one acquire the moniker of Sugar? I've spent a lot of time in taverns. Ale and the female form are two of my favorite subjects. And, when Fern, of Giggling Ghost fame gives you a nickname, it sticks like honey—to the bun. Here I am, in this loop
Liam motions with his finger in the air to illustrate a figure 8 or rather, the sign for infinity. this endless loop, mead—blonde, ale—red head, whiskey—brunette. I tell a few jokes, dazzle the crowd with prose, and all the while trying to thwarts mum's attempt to marry me off to some coined tart that's never swam in Turtle lake and much less caught a bronze-back on the fly.

In looking for a change of pace, something deeper, I find myself with you all. Can I help reshuffle the deck? Will the die fall sixes? One never knows without taking the risk. As brevity is the king of wit. I leave you there.

Liam slowly walks back to his prior position, leaving against the wall.

Sid (Andrew) HP:23/23; AC: 16/14/12; CMB: 1; CMD: 15)
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 7:20:12 PM

Sid smiles and claps for Liam. "Well, thank you for having me. I myself am not so witty, but I'll try to not be overly long. In case you haven't heard, my name is Sid and I am a bowyer." He stretches back a little keeping loose, "I'm here with my partner Elly and we own the Split Arrow on [insert location here]. I'd love to offer you all discounts, but Elly would kill me. She runs the shop, I've mostly been trying to raise capital and take care of the day to day. I helped a few groups out before I came to the Float, and Brassy knew I was looking for more, so he suggested I come down." Sid squints and tilts his a bit, "He seemed rather eager to get me out of the bar for some reason. Anyway! I'm quick, quiet, a decent shot, and interested in doing something good. I look forward to working with you all."

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 38/38 AC: 18 T: 10 FF: 17 CMD: 16 Party Treasury
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 7:20:41 PM

As they get back to the head quarters and Sid asks about it Zander replies to him and Sugar, "This is our office, meeting room, and living room all rolled into one. If you're inclined, and I hope you take up the offer, we have sleeping quarters upstairs. Right now we've just got some temporary hangings marking out rooms. It's been a little crazy here on the Fence since we've moved in, haven't had time to renovate yet. We might have to adjust the hangings to give you both some more room, our previous party members were both halflings." With that Zander will give the two new guys a tour and help arrange quarters upstairs if they wish.

"I think the letters are a good idea Stohp. While I agree that the guards probably won't do much best to keep local law enforcement informed. May keep them a little more alert. Now as to Mask day I think we should be out in force around the major festivities around the Fence. I'm less concerned about what the Hands of Love may do since we removed Shredds faction but if they is some bad disease in the Trash level it could make it's way up during the festivities. Or we could head down there ourselves to see what's going on." At the thought of heading down there Zander shudders a little involuntarily. Growing up on the streets of the Fence could be rough enough, but from stories he'd heard it was nothing to life down in the Trash level.

K (Carl) HP: 25 AC:25/22/21 CMD:18
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 8:50:32 PM

K takes mental notes as they speak. This Sugar fellow seemed like a decent sort. A little on the Caeroldra side of life, but to each his own. He raises an eyebrow at Sid's mention of being a bowyer. That could come in handy.

"Good," he beings after Sid stops talking. "It gets lonely in the back lines sometimes." He motions to the composite bow he left near the door. "Took me years to convince my parents to let me buy it. Probably for the best; I would have settled for something cheaper long before if they'd let me. They're priests of Flower...not big on violence."

He stands up. Back to business...

"...the guards know something. No one down here gets the kind of treatment he did when they found him dead. Maybe the letters will spook something out of them." He pauses a moment, then frowns. "No, that's stupid. They probably wouldn't be too worried." He sits, a bit out of his depth. He remembers how glad he was when Shredds attacked. Finally, there was a bad guy to target. No such luck here...

A Man, A Plan, A Lake: Mask Day (DM Cayzle)
Tuesday November 29th, 2016 11:44:32 PM

On the walk to the HQ, Sid sees that the Mask Day festivities are already getting started, a day early. There are more people on the streets, some sporting masks. You hear some revelry and pass some minstrels as you walk the Fence.

Inside, Sid gets the tour. Zanderallen shows the new recruits the place from top to bottom. Bart explains who Oscar is and how the fellow came to butle for the party.

(BTW, a butler butles!)

Dorbin makes a half snarky, half thoughtful comment about plague in the Trash: "Would anyone really notice?" Of course, for regular old illness, no. But maybe Xander -- or the people pulling his strings -- have something special in mind. Perhaps an investigation would be wise. No one wants the Underlord's entourage to spread a magical disease through the city! Well, no one with good intentions!

Stohp and K discuss a philosophy of adventuring styles, and then Stohp pens a couple letters so that the people who need to know stuff will know it. If you meet the big bad enemy after all, and she says, "Have you told anybody else about this plot," you'll be able to honestly say that you have!

Wise Micah agrees with the DM that these letters were a good idea. He asks about the plan for Mask Day. Indeed, you have not yet set on a course of action ... and the day approaches!

Liam and Sid talk about themselves and put the others at ease regarding their intentions and capabilities. Truly, the Silver Shield has a way of attracting quality. Perhaps Happy at the Giggling Ghost DID have a good idea when he worked behind the scenes to gather you together.

So what is next? Thanks to the letters, you have done well by Eldrich, who is surely worried. And you have alerted the authorities, which is always a good idea for peacekeepers.

But what about Shredds and his poison, if that's even him?

But what about the Trash Level, and the new plague that's threatening?

But what about the Hands of Love and whatever they have planned?

Zander plays down the Hands threat and proposes just running security on the Fence Level during the Underlord's processions. What about the rest of the group?

K looks to Stohp. The mission looked a lot simpler when she asked to lead things for a while. He wondered how she was holding up. "As much as I want to solve this murder, a plague being spread through the entire Float seems like a bigger deal. Not really sure how to stop it, it's not like we can just tell the Underlord to take a year off." He turns back to Stohp. "What's the call, lady?"

Dorbin remains quiet and seems quite impressed with Sugar's stories of life as a bard. He says out loud, "Do you think Mask Day will include the trash level? Sugar continues leaning on the wall; his way to remain standing but relaxed. He speaks up (which isn't difficult). I realize I'm just signing on but, ... Mask Day, well, it's a big deal ... anonymous women in masks, right? I jest, but, really, anonymous women in masks! We cannot miss this event. It's an opportunity for a well-conceived stratagem, should we choose to employ such a measure. Mask Day is also an opportunity to simply have a little fun, gain some needed information from current or new sources—even those that need a little prodding, I could go on... The Trash will still be there the day after. Sugar looks around to see if he's on an island with this approach or among the majority, weighing the expressions and posture of each member carefully.

The Trash will still be there the day after. “

Bart asks about renting masks and volunteers to go get a mask. It is easy to find something decent, but all the extra nice ones are spoken for. Some of you already have masks, of course, nice ones made for you by that nice lady crafter.

Sid asks, "Ok, so tomorrow is the day that the Lords switch places right? After twenty years in power I can only guess how many people would profit if the current Highlord were to stay in power. Or who would profit if something happened to both Lords. Hmmm..."

You Float natives and residents put your heads together and clear up a few details. The Underlord and Overlord switch jobs every year. 20 Undercrats are selected to work for 20 years -- logically, there are 400 in total, from newbies to 19.9-year veterans.

Also, popular rumor says that after serving the Underlord for 20 years, the clerics of love will rejuvenate you to be any age you prefer, and you can either keep your memories of your service or lose them, Also, after serving the Underlord, some emerge with amazing skill, talents, and lore. Teucri lore!

The Teucri, of course, are the lost magical race of beings that created the Big Float as well as other amazing structures in the Wold.

ALSO, you know that Mask Day starts and ends on the Trash Level, and the revelry there is said to be more amazing than even on the Open Air level, seeing as the Underlord pays for it. The magnificence of the Trash Level party is determined by how many non-Trash folk get killed there on Mask Day. If few are killed, the party is amazing. If many are killed, the Underlord punishes the Trash folk with a poor party. And since Mask Day is the best of days on the Trash, residents are incentivized to be on their best behavior.

But if there is a magical plague, all that may be moot this year!

Anyway, to more immediate needs ... so far, K is prioritizing the plague and Liam is focused on the party. Anyone else weighing in? What's your plan of action?

Sid then looks around, "And what do these 'undercrats' do anyway? Is it twenty years of servitude or are they just more functionaries of the Float that have their own 9 to 5 gig? Does any even know?"

Bartomus returned with the mask he had borrowed and put away in a safe place. "Well, found this. So, won't need to go hunting for it."

He found his seat and listened to the conversation. When there was discussion about the Trash level and the plague, he sat up. "K, wouldn't tomorrow be the perfect day to spread the plague? If they spread the spores for that on enough people, it could really cause a panic in the Trash level in the days that follow."

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 15/12/12 CMB: +5 CMD: 14
Thursday December 1st, 2016 11:04:25 AM

Before speaking Stohp checks the time. Is it early enough to get more done today?

"Lets clarify a little before we go making plans. Of the original group only Micah and myself remain, so most of us didn't attend the original meeting and purpose behind the group. We were formed because the local businesses had problems that the guard refused to solve. If you've lived down here and payed attention you'll notice that, really, the guard doesn't care at all about the Fence and Trash levels. They might investigate a murder if people pester them about it, but anything lesser is simply ignored. That's why we exist. We exist to help the people when the guard doesn't have the will or manpower to.

It's tempting to call it a day and hope we can find out something tomorrow. Mask Day is THE big holiday of the city, and I'd hate to miss it, but people are dying. We know at least one murder has been committed, had several claims that this Crimson plans to manipulate the selection of lords, and learned that a plague is spreading in the trash that the celebration could spread across the whole city. Somehow this is all connected, and signs point to Mask Day being when it all comes together. We need to get to the trash and stop this before whoever it is can subvert the holiday and turn it into tragedy."

Sid clucks his teeth and winks to the heavens as he raises his glass, "May your dice roll high if that's the game. Cheers!"

Sid takes a long pull and looks at Liam. "Hey, aren't you going to try your luck at the draw?" Sid scoots his drink and box over and looks at the barkeep. "Please a round for my friend here. We've got to celebrate!"

Into The Trash On Mask-Day Eve (DM Cayzle)
Thursday December 1st, 2016 11:51:10 PM

Sid suggests training the Underlord's party as it walks its parade route through the Float. He asks what Undercrats do, exactly.

Know Local DC10 Highlight to display spoiler: {No one knows what Undercrats do! None are seen for 20 years after they follow the Underlord into the Deepkeep in the Trash.}

Bart finds his mask and worries about how a magic plague could spread on Mask Day of all days!

Dorbin agrees with that!

Stohp tries to make the group's purpose clear, and offers a perspective that only she and Micah share. Then she goes on to declare that the group's goal must be to quash the plot that you all have uncovered. "We need to get to the trash and stop this before whoever it is can subvert the holiday and turn it into tragedy," she declares.

Micah agrees and reminds the group about the main lead that they have.

Zanderallen, K, and Liam see the wisdom in this, and a plan is formed: Go to the Trash Level now, before Mask Day, look for this "Brian" fellow, and then figure out a next step.

[OOC for Sid only: Highlight to display spoiler: {I think you meant for your second post to be in the Giggling Ghost? If so, feel free to copy and paste it there, and let me know, so I can delete this one. LOL! }]

That's enough of a consensus for action! You grab quick meals, masks (either scrounged or readied before or saved from a prior year), and, most of all, arms and armaments!

You head for the nearest stairs down to the Trash ... and that is the Stair of Courage, at the northeast corner of the Float. Now, the Trash is no place for the weak, but the stairs, and the level to which they lead down, are still usually a-bustle with life, of a sordid variety. Usually there are the most common of laborers and working poor, commuting to and from jobs higher up. Or vagabonds and scamps, urchins of several ages, working the angles, begging, or picking pockets. Or residents of the higher levels, seeking the services and merchandise that you can only buy in the Trash, better left undescribed here.

However, the stairs are empty today. A few people are going down, but no one is going up. No street kids or blind beggars. No toughs or bodyguards. No trollops or dandies.

It gets dark as you step into the Trash Level, but that's not a surprise. On all the other levels of the Big Float, the ceiling of the level is covered in an evocative illusion of sky and sun, the same view you would see looking up on the Open Air Level. Is it a projection on the roof? Or are the other levels invisible when viewed from below? The amazing magic of the Teucri continues to astound the savants of this later day.

But there is no ceiling magic on the Trash Level. All the lighting is supplied by continual flame spells (for the major streets), or by torches or by nothing at all in the alleyways. So it is DARK here -- it always is.

And today, unusually, it is EMPTY. You see a few people moving slowly, as if in shock. Doors are closed. Lights doused. There are bodies in the gutter -- okay, that's not unusual -- but more than you should be seeing in the daytime. And no one seems interested in looting them.

You are in the uppermost right hand corner on this map. You just emerged from the circle. You know of all the marked/named locations. The Underramp to the Deepkeep is at the center of the map. Where do you head? How are you grouped (marching order)? Do you carry light sources? Some places are dim or dark!

"They actually named this street Cuthroat Bend. How edgy." K wasn't terribly worried about the plague going around. His faith in Flower protected him from disease, and he imagined Zander had the same protections from Domi.

Secure in that knowledge, K walks over to the bodies. Can he tell what killed them? Are there wounds? Sores? K is no diagnostician, but surely he knows the difference between a boil and a puncture wound.

"From everything I've heard the Undercrats just disappear into the Deepdark for 20 years after being chosen. No ones really knows what they do, at least no one that talks about it.' (Know: Local 13)

Zanderallen pulls out his lantern and lights it as they descend into the Trash level. "Does this seem darker than usual for the Trash level? Something is very wrong here.", he comments to his companions. Confident of Domi's protection he still can't quiet a little voice in the back of his head wondering if that protection extends to fungal mind spores. But not to be outdone by a follower of Flower he also examines some of the bodies, bringing his lantern to give light. Examining a few of them as they go along Zander tries to determine causes of death and signs of disease. While not an expert he was trained in basic field medicine.

Sugar coughs aloud as K and Zander approach the bodies. You lads let me know when I might be of use, there's no diplomacy with the dead. . Sugar ponders many questions darting through his mind: This place is ripe. No wonder there's a plague. What am I doing near a plague? Is this what they call adventure? Will I have to burn my clothes when we leave here? I hope we're not here long? I need a drink.

Ready Action: draw rapier if someone or some thing aggressively moves toward Sugar; even a toothless child wielding a fishing rod.

Stohp becomes more and more concerned as they head down into the Trash. She knows some folks down here and she's worried for them. Jasper and Rooger in particular come to mind; she hoped to track them down and gain their aide. She tries to remember if she ever learned where they lived down here.

Once they reach bottom she passes around some of the leafy substance the Alchemist gave them. "Take a dose before and after exposure he said, so take some before poking at dead bodies." To late she worries about possible deception. If Xander lied and gave them poison then they were committing mass suicide, but to not take some now that they were already bellow would likely be just as deadly.

He dropped his glave and unsheathed the long blade. The sheath he attached to a corded hook on the back of his belt ensuring he wouldn't loose it in the darkness.

"So if this isn't normal for the Trash level to you all, we have a problem for sure."

"Sorry, properly ready now," he says as he puffs a bit.

Down on the Trash level, Sid crinkles his nose. He'd never really been done here before, preferring the common ho-hum danger of the Fence, and he knows it's not the way this place is normally, usually, but the sight sets him on edge. "Ffloyd's Awl," he mutters as he strings his long bow and looks around, staying to the side some so he can use the light without being blinded by it. He shadows those looking at the bodies and focuses on their surroundings, never really having been the one to do the healing he decides to focus on what he is good at.
"Well," he thinks to himself, "at least a city-wide plague isn't old hat for these guys." It was cold comfort.

The Trash Level is dim and dank. Noxious odors waft around. the unsteady residents who dare to walk the street look around. Dorbin worries that the heroes are too late! Is he right ...

Liam, wearing gloves in the hope of some prevention, is on a razor's edge of alarm. Make that a rapier's edge, the rapier he holds ready in case ANY thing comes within reach!

Zanderallen lights a lantern, and then he and K move to inspect a body lying at the side of the street. Both paladins know that their special blessings protect them from the plague, and all plagues ... but what about this one ...

K and Zander, please both make Fortitude Saves vs DC12. If you fail, and ONLY if you fail, please Highlight to display spoiler: {You are sickened (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/coreRulebook/glossary.html#sickened) by the stench.}

[OOC Micah: see below for that Heal check; not enough time for a Gather Info check]

As the overeager holy men step toward a prone body, Stohp calls out to them, urging a prophylactic dose of the medicine ...

Bart, though no less cautious than his friends, just seems less ... excitable ... about the situation.

Sid, a dozen or two feet behind the holy men, tries to keep a low profile and just look around. He seems reassured by the professional demeanor of the holy men taking point. Sid Only Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You see something odd about the shuffling folk up the street. They are walking funny. They twitch as they walk. Looking at the body, Micah sees sure indications that this is not a healthy person. His eyes are green -- or rather, something green is growing in them. And the veins on the arms and neck are ... bulging? And through the human's pale white skin ... they look ... green?

Stohp calls to the holy men about using the medicine ... and at that moment, the body comes ALIVE! It lurches (still prone) at the three. Rolling 1-3 Z; 4-6 K; and 7-8 M ... a 7! It BITES and CLAWS at Micah! The bite hits vs flat-footed AC14 (a miss), and the claws hit vs flat-footed ACs 8 (a miss) and 18. Micah takes 5 hp nonlethal damage from a clawing recently-human? still human? hand. That attack does not break the skin. Micah does notice some green flecks that do pass from the sick person, settling on himself.

Friends, we are in combat, I will have a battle map up, hopefully this weekend. Please make sure your hit points, AC, and other stats are all set and correct on your sheets.

Here is the map. The grey squares are road. The pink squares are doors. The black squares are outer walls of buildings. The white squares are indoors or unknown. The scale is five ft per square.

You all are marked by a Blue Box and a letter: B, D, L, K, M, S, Stohp, and Z.

The people on the street are marked in red. Prone people also have a Red border. This is the map BEFORE Round One (posted below).

All buildings are at least two or three stories high. Some are four or five -- those are right up against the ceiling. On the upper levels, there is a limit of three floors per building, with a few exceptions. That's to make sure no one touches the ceilings. Here, they do not seem to care if you go that high.

Some of the doors lead to commercial establishments on the street level. Some commercial establishments have signs, and those are depicted on the map next to their doors.

Light: Zanderallen has a hooded lantern with a 30 ft radius. Micah has a Light spell with a 20 ft radius. Beyond those, all light is DIM (20% miss chance), creatures have concealment.

The monster attacked with surprise. Now it is the top of Round One.

Liam inspires courage and draws his whip. As a bard, he recognizes the signs of a "zombie apocalypse," that is, an epic tale of undead invasion.

K is not sickened by the stench of the creatures [OOC: If you save once, you do not have to save again today.] His quick bladework, bolstered by the bard, knocks out the plague victim, if that's what this is. Taking the blow, the thing screams with a high-pitched wailing before the damage shuts it up.

Sid calls out a warning. "They're more up the street!" He lets loose an arrow, but it flies wide of any mark.

[OOC to Bart: You cannot ingest the medicine and cast a cure in the same round -- that would be two standard actions. Please pick one for this round. We'll catch up next post.]

Dorbin starts a summoning. [OOC: Please give the map coordinates and action for your dog next round. Also, it vedry much helps the DM if you post a link to the thing you summon.]

Micah's mace finishes off the attacker.

Zanderallen is sickened by the stench of the monster, now utterly defeated.

Stohp readies a trip if any foes come into reach.

Now it is the bottom of Round One, and the enemy moves. And move they do!

Infected 1 is dead.

Infected 2 and 3 charge from the south and attack. They claw at Zander and Micah. Number 2 hits AC25, and Micah takes 6 nonlethal damage. Green spores fall on him. Number 3 hits AC23, and Zanderallen takes 8 nonlethal damage.

Infected 4 comes out of the Sins for Sale, and Stohp trips it with her readied attack. It crawls five ft closer (and is prone, map is wrong).

Infected 5 comes out of Trashy Treasures and tries to bite K. It hits AC7, a miss.

Infected 6, 7, and 8 come closer, but use all their move to do so -- no time for them to attack. Other infected move closer too.

All infected are AC12, CMD14.

NOTE: Anyone in melee range who has not yet done so, make a fort save DC12 or be sickened by the stench.

"There are too many of them for me to back out," Micah says as he attacks again with his hammer at the same one their new canine ally attacked, soundly striking it. Having spent years of using a hammer to strike dangerously hot metal, his demeanor remains calm and methodical as he puts his hammer to a more deadly use now.

Remembering a cantrip he saw Pesmer used to be fond of, he calls out, "Sugar or Dorbin, these things are leaving a green dust when they hit. Can either of you cast prestidigitation and clean it off us? I have gotten some of it already."

Calling upon Domi to he heals himself with a touch and concerned with how many are coming he focuses a bit more on defending himself until he can get his shield out. His swing unfortunately is wild.

OLD Round One Business.

In Round One, Bart took the medicine. You now have a +5 alchemical bonus against stench and infection saves.

Also, Stohp please make a retroactive AoO vs the crawling Infected #4.

New Round Two Business.

Sid shoots - and just makes his shot! [OOC: You have +2 BAB +4 Dex, +1 Enhancement, and +1 Inspire Courage. That's +8, not +7, and you hit AC12, not AC11. Note that I assume you are shooting at Enemy 13. If you were to shoot at one that was closer, you would take a -4 penalty for shooting into melee. Shooting at #13 means you do not get your +1 point blank shot bonus, but not incurring the -4 is the difference between hitting and not. I'll roll your damage (1d8+2) ...] Sid hits for 6 damage, but damage reduction reduces that to 1 hp damage to Enemy #13.

Bart casts a Cure Light Wounds spell. (All players please note current hit points in your header.)

K hits Infected #8 for 6 damage, but only 1 hp damage makes it past its DR.

Dorbin's dog appears, flanking with Zander, and bites Infected #2 for 2 damage. It all gets through. Dorbin's acid dart falls short.

Liam casts dancing lights and steps up.

Stohp swings and connects, but the DR5/slashing means no damage is inflicted.

Micah hits Infected #2 with 4 hp damage after DR.

Zanderallen sets down his lantern, heals himself, swings, and misses.

Now it is the bottom of Round Two, and the enemy acts.

Infected 1 is dead.

Infected 2 is injured and screaming as it tries to claw and bite at Micah. It hits ACs21 and 19 (claws) and 15 (bite). That's 8+5=13 hp nonlethal to Micah

Infected 3 and 6 attack Zander. Altogether, a claw and a bite land. Zanderallen takes 8 nonlethal damage, 4 lethal damage from a bite, and his immunity to magical disease means he has no chance of infection from the bite.

Infected 4 rises from prone and provokes another AoO from Stohp. If it survives that, it takes a five foot step and tries to bite the rogue. It hits AC11, a miss.

Infected 5 and 8 attack K. Just 1 claw hits. K takes 11 nonlethal damage from a claw..

Infected 7 moves toward Stohp, provoking an AoO from Zanderallen and another AoO if Stohp can make more than one AoO per round. Please roll those! Then #7 claws at Stohp, hitting AC27 for 11 nonlethal.

Infected 9 moves up to bite at Dorbin's dog. It hits AC16, hurting the poor doggie for 5 damage.

There are another large number of infected coming toward you, attracted by the lights and the screaming of their wounded kin.

All infected are AC12, CMD14. They have DR 5/slashing.

Stohp glances at the large club she's wielding, then at the completely uninjured zombie that she just bashed in the head, twice! (17 to hit on AoO, 7-5=2 damage) If this was a TV show, she'd be glancing at the camera, exasperated, about now. The creatures are crowding in close enough now that their fetid stench threatens to overwhelm her, so she breaths through her mouth; disgusting, but less so then smelling them (17 fort save).

Abandoning the offence she simply holds her ground, spending a few precious seconds trying to make a plan (total defense action, +4 AC for one round). Thinking hard, she tries to remember as much as she can about the nearest buildings and businesses. (Knowledge: local 11. the 10 was accidental d8 roll). The foremost questions in her mind; which buildings have another exit, either to another street or the rooftops? She wants an escape route not a bastion for defense.

K makes no noise as the strike connects, he just lightly touches the side of his face where it connected, his hands glowing pink for just a moment. He sees the dagger on Micah's hip. "Micah, I'll give this back when I'm done." He drops the rapier, hoping he won't have to leave it behind, before reaching out and drawing Micah's dagger.

Turning back to the infected, he presses the attack, striking infected #8. It's a good hit, but there are a lot of those things coming. "Zander, you're over extended. We're going to be surrounded if we don't move back."

OLD Round Two Business.

In Round Two, Stohp hit infected #4 for 2 damage on an AoO. And Zander hit infected #7 for 7 damage on an AoO.

In Round Two, Bartomus should have gotten an AoO on Infected 4 as it came closer. His attack is at +3 with Inspire Courage. The DM rolls a 12 to hit, just enough, and inflicts 10 hp on Infected 4, killing it.

New Round Three Business.

The heroes of the Silver Shields worry that they do not have the weapons or numbers to win this fight!

Stohp fights defensively. She wonders if these buildings have back entrances. It seems likely, but she does not recollect any particulars.

Sid looks around and counts, say, 20 of these infected pseudo-zombies converging on the group's position! He fires at #13 and inflicts 3 damage after DR.

Liam steps back to BJ:14 and uses magic to get the spores off Micah.

Dorbin's dog bites Infected #2 for 3 damage! Dorbin again has bad luck with his acid missile.

K hits #8 for 9! Boo-ya!

Zanderallen hits Infected 2 for 6 damage, killing it.

Micah wonders what the party is fighting! As far as he can theorize, it is like an undead plant growing within infected individuals, controlling them. He tries channelling, and makes a discovery! These things are susceptible to positive energy, get no save vs them, and it seems to daunt them too, making them less ferocious. Two fall down dead, and all those nearby are affected. AND of course the power HEALS all friends for 7. If you have both nonlethal and lethal damage, it applies to both. So for example, if you have 10 nonlethal and 4 lethal, you are healed 7 lethal (all 4 damage is gone) AND 7 nonlethal (you still have 3 nonlethal)

Bart reaches out to attack Infected 20, with his usual glaive and his horns (at -5 when used with a weapon.) That's a full attack because no movement other than a five ft step is needed. His horns miss (using the roll you made, Rod). Then he steps back and uses the glaive, with the DM rolling at +3 with inspire courage, and hitting AC22 for 12 damage, which kills it.

Now it is the bottom of Round Three, and the enemy acts.

Infected 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 & 20 are dead.

Infected 3 & 6 attack Zander, but they are daunted. They claw vs ACs 13, 12, 7, and 21, so one claw hits Zander for 6 nonlethal. The other two bites snap at ACs 16 and 9, both misses.

Infected 5, daunted, attacks K. Only the nat 20 lands, [b]a claw vs K for 5 nonlethal./b]

Infected 9, daunted, attacks the summoned dog, hitting ACs 11, 6, and 9.

Infected 10, undaunted, moves closer toward Stohp, but before it gets there, it provokes AoO from Stohp and Bart. Bart, if you choose to take this AoO, you have a -4 cover penalty because Stohp is in the way. If the enemy survives an AoO, it attacks Stohp with a claw. It hits AC22 for 10 nonlethal.

Infected 11 moves up and claws at the dog, wo also benefited from the channel. It hits AC 15 for 6, sending the canine back to the otherworldly place from whence it came, no doubt destined for a scoobie-snack, for such a good boy, yes he was!

Infecteds 12 and 14-24 hustle closer. #21 stands in the doorway of Sins for Sale.

Infected 13, daunted, stumbles closer to Stohp. If Stohp or Bart have any AoOs left, they may take them against #13. If 13 survives, it attacks Stohp, who is AC19, fighting with total defense. It swipes with a claw, hitting AC21 for 10 nonlethal! Depending on AoOs, I think that might knock Stohp down??!!?

All infected are AC12, CMD14. They have DR 5/slashing.

"Guys if we stay on the street we'll be fighting these things all night! Head into the Illegal Garden; that building on the left. Liam, Sid, get the door open, check for more zombies or survivors. Try not to get shot by a panicky civilian. Everyone else hold your ground and keep the zombies off them while they work."

As for herself, she has two of the creatures blocking the route between her compatriots and the door. She trips Infected 10 (26 to hit) as it approaches, stopping it's movement 10 feet away so it can't attack her. Grunting as 13 claws her, she trips it up as well, which provokes an AoO from it (Unless Bart finishes it with AoO), before tumbling to the other side of it (acrobatics 20) to put herself between it and the door everyone should be heading for in a second (If zombie 10 was tripped at BF 17 or 18 that'd put Stohp at BE 17 and 18, blocking both zombies from the door).

Assuming she's still conscious, she waves for the chosen lock-pickers to run past the zombies while she has them occupied.

OLD Round Three Business.

In Round Three, b]Stohp[/b] knocks infected 10 down, saving herself from trouble.

In Round Three, Bartomus should have gotten an AoO on Infected 4 as it came closer. His attack is at +3 with Inspire Courage. The DM rolls a 12 to hit, just enough, and inflicts 10 hp on Infected 4, killing it.

New Round Four Business.

Stohp knocks infected 13 down, provoking an AoO in so doing, which is a nat 20 but not a crit, one that inflicts 7 nonlethal damage to Stohp. By my count, that's 17 nonlethal to Stohp, who is only barely managing to remain standing. She keeps it together wel enough to tumble around the prone zombies.

K hits #5 for 4, almost but not quite putting it down.

Micah lets loose another blaze of holy power, healing friends for 8 and hurting the zombies ... dropping Infected #3, 5, 6, 9, and 13.

Liam casts in an effort to distract the infected and then steps back.

Dorbin takes aim ... as his target drops dead. The arcanist redirects his attention to #21 (DM fiat) and shoots it for 5 damage. That kills it!

Zanderallen takes a step, swings, and misses.

Sid Sid tumbles [roll 24], listens [roll 10], and then opens a door [roll 21]. IMPORTANT QUESTION - Did Sid open the door to the Illegal Garden, where Stohp is, or to the Trashy Treasures, on the other side of the street?

Bart pauses and watches.

Now it is the bottom of Round Four, and the enemy acts.

Infected 1-9, 13, & 20 are dead.

Infected 10, daunted, rises from prone, provoking attacks of opportunity from Stohp and Micah, but Micah, who just put away his weapon, cannot take advantage of the opportunity. Stohp can, but not to trip the infected. Once it is on its feat, the infected tries to bite Micah, hitting AC8, a miss.

Infected 11&12, both daunted, make full attacks on Zanderallen. Two claws (out of two bite and four claw attacks) hit ACs 23 and 21for 11 and 7 nonlethal damage to Zander!

Infected 15, daunted, takes a 5 ft step toward Stohp and attacks, flanking her. It hits ACs2, 7, and 7, managing to somehow critically fumble with three natural ones!!

Infected 16-24 move forward, seemingly drawn to Liam's light.

All infected are AC12, CMD14. They have DR 5/slashing.

OLD Round Four Business.

Round Four Map - sorry, forgot to remove #21 after its death. And #23 is not prone.

New Round Five Business.

Bart Steps forward to swing at an infected, but misses.

Dorbin shoots an acid dart but misses.

Liam thinks about opening a lock but sees the effort would be redundant. Instead, he steps up next to Stohp, swings his whip, and hits Infected 15 for 4 slashing damage — taking it DOWN!

K moves up next to Zander, attacks #12, and hits for 6 slashing — taking it DOWN!

Sid opens the door on a long hallway. Many bunches of aromatic dries plants hang from the ceiling. He dashes in. The main room sems to be some kind of smoking den. There are lounges and tables. A few customers seem oblivious to the danger outside, and they look up blearly as Sid enters.

Zanderallen swings at 11 and hits for 3, then steps back.

Stohp attacks #10, hits for 1.

Micah steps away from the enemy and picks up the magic rapier.

Now it is the bottom of Round Five, and the enemy acts.

Infected 1-9, 13, & 20 are dead.

Infected 10, daunted, attacks Stohp, hitting ACs 13 and 7 with the claws, both misses, and a nat 20 with the bite (not a crit). Stop takes 2 lethal damage and must roll a saving throw!

Infected 11, daunted, takes a 5 ft step and makes a full attack on K. A claw and a bite hit for 4 nonlethal and 5 lethal damage to K! (No fort save fr the paladin.)

Infected 16 still looks at and swipes at the magic lights.

Ignoring the magic lights now, Infecteds 18 and 19 charge! Their ACs drop to 10 when charging.

Infected 18 charges Liam, provoking AoOs from Stohp. It hits Liam, vs ACs 23 and 20 for 12 total nonlethal. The bite misses.

Infected 18 charges Stohp, provoking AoOs from Stohp. It hits Stohp, vs ACs 23 and 20 for 12 nonlethal. The bite misses.

It hits AC19, good enough to hit Micah for 8 nonlethal damage. ALSO NOTE: Were Micah to move to BE18 and cast, he would be doing so right next to Infected 19 in BD19. That wold open himself up to another AoO! So your very kindly DM is assuming you walked to BF18, a safe square, out of reach of enemies, from which to cast your cure.

Zanderallen puts an end to Infected 23.

Now it is the bottom of Round Seven, and the enemy acts.

Infected 1-16, 20, 21, & 23 are dead (14 is prone and far away). All remaining are daunted and injured.

Infected 17 takes a 5 ft step, then makes a full attack on the lightly armored Bart. It hits Bartomus with a claw for 10 nonlethal damage and a bite for 2 nonlethal -- AND make a fort save please! One more round like this will take out Bart!

Infected 18 takes a 5 ft step, then makes a full attack on Zanderallen. Infected 19 makes a full attack on Zanderallen. Four claws and two bites vs AC18 Z yield two claws that land for 18 hp nonlethal damage to Zander! If Zanderallen's header info is right, that knocks the paladin unconscious, though with no lethal damage. Still, prone victim next to two zombies ... huh.

Infected 22 takes a 5 ft step, then makes a full attack on K. Infected 24 takes a 5 ft step, then makes a full attack on K. Four claws and two bites vs AC16 K yield two claws and one bite that hit K for 18 nonlethal and 2 lethal damage on K After Micah's curing last round, K should still be on his feet ... for THIS round!

All infected are AC12, CMD14. They have DR 5/slashing.

Bartomus roared in pain as the next green veined once human thing lunged at him with claws that bit deep into his side. In the shock to the sudden assault, Bartomus watched in slow motion as the creature sunk its yellowed teeth into shoulder. A shiver echoed the violent pain that was pulsing through him.

He swung his glave and slashed the blade down into the thing that bit him. The blade went deep, and he quick pulled it back to avoid it being pulled out of his hands as the creature fell. He breathed in deeply and the pain returned. He shuddered as he looked down to see a dark stain of blood creep through his shirt and dribble down across the leather of the kilt.

Bart downs another enemy, and Stohp swings in the confusion of the melee that is not quite over yet.

Then Micah's channel puts an end to it, dropping the last four infected people near you.

K and Zander are left with no foes to face.

=====

Inside the Illegal Garden, Dorbin looks the people over for signs of infection. He sees none.

Sid calls out, reassuring the "drug-addled" crowd, and sees that every single person here is armed. Every one. Several of the blades are glowing. He thinks about grabbing a slashing weapon, but that might take more than just a grab ...

Liam calls out to Sid. After Stohp moves, Liam can see into the recreational establishment. He sees tables and soft padded chairs, serving boys and girls moving from patron to patron through the hazy air.

A willowy woman approaches Dorbin and Sid. She has sleepy eyelids, she is dressed in satin, and she weaves through the "tavern" in a state of evident intoxication. Her clothes are lovely but somewhat disheveled, and there are pink stains around her mouth.

If you can make a Knowledge Local or Nature DC10 check, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You recall that users of a certain esoteric drug show these stains around their lips.}

"Ah, heroes from the upper levels," she says, with some amusement, puffing on some aromatic substance in a long, delicate pipe. "No one else would come fully armed into my establishment, reeking of war, locking the door and treating my patrons like ... like you are looking at cattle, perhaps? Only adventurers would be so bold. But may I see your license?" Her words are slightly slurred, as if she were under some influence.

If you make a perception check vs DC31, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You see that the drug stains, the cloves in her pipe, and her dissarray, are all part of an act. In reality, she is stone sober and looking at you very seriously. She seems ready to ... do something ... if threatened.}

If you do show her your license, she politely asks if you are here as customers, or if you have some other business.

If you do not, she asks that you sit down like any other customer, or please depart.

OOC: The combat is over. All PCs gain 1,000 xp. Thanks for a fun fight!

He flips the dagger in the air, catching the flat of the blade and offering the hilt to Micah. "Trade you," he says, eyeing his rapier. "Or, if you don't mind, maybe I can hold on to it? I'm sure there are more of those things out there." Either way, K wants his rapier back.

He's not ready to head in yet. He'll wait till everyone else is inside.

Surveying the street Zanderallen takes a deep breath and walks over to retrieve his lantern. He then moves back with the others and starts examining wounds, "DId anybody get bit other than myself and K? If so we need to take precautions. First off everyone should take the antidote the alchemist gave us and hope it's not too late. Then we should examine the wounds, let's get off the street." Using the lantern Zander will begin examining any bite wounds looking for any signs of infection or disease once they move inside. Completely distracted by the possibility of infection he doesn't pay much attention to what is going on inside.

Showing their license she tries to explain. If they're outside then she motions to the green, now motionless corpses to illustrate her point. "I apologize for our sudden, rude entry, but these zombie things were swarming us. We heard that some sort of plague was spreading down here and came to help, but weren't prepared for 20 odd shambling corpses to attack us immediately."

Trash Fight Is Over -- and meanwhile, in the Illegal Garden ... (DM Cayzle)

Micah, Zanderallen, K, and Bartomus look around at the carnage. Micah detects magic, and senses something. He concentrates, and pinpoints one of the corpses. This one's clothing seems a better make, and he is wearing a magic ring.

The only person with an infected bite is Bart. If Bart takes the medicine immediately, he can make a new fort save, at +5 ... a save he'll very much want to make!

It is surely just a matter of time before more infected are attracted to the noise and light.

Inside the Illegal Garden, Sid makes nice like and brings the manager lady over to the entrance to speak with Stohp. Stohp shows the group's license and explains that the group just battled a horde of zombies right outside.

Liam looks around and thinks that this establishment, and likely the others that are near the stairs, seem to be catering to a tourist trade of thrill-seekers who want to be able to say they sampled the illicit pleasures of the Trash Level without actually having to go far from the steps back up. The clientele does not seem very Trashy, but rather, are likely from upper levels.

Shy Dorbin keeps his peace.

The willowy woman nods, as if she has heard it all before. "No worries. Zombies cannot open doors, so we should be fine. Thank you for your good work, though," she adds, condescendingly.

She stands and looks at you, expectantly. Do you have any business with her? Do you seek refuge in her establishment, and for how long? Do you want anything from her? She is both polite and dismissive, although she spares a smile for the smooth-talking Liam and asks him for his name.

"We should probably have that bite looked at further at a later time but it looks good for now Bart. Which is good, I'd hate to have to put you down. You're a good and true companion and friend."

"It might seem uncharacteristic of me, but might I suggest a tactical retreat to resupply? We are not equipped to fight another group of infected. At the very least K and I need some patching up, and a solid blade for everyone would greatly increase our effectiveness. Other than my sword and Bart's glaive we're mostly relying on daggers, and that's not enough. And while very potent Brother Micah only has so much strength to channel the power of Domi. And he seems somewhat drained by our fight. I know time is running short but us dying and adding to this mess won't help."

In the Illegal Garden ... (DM Cayzle)
Friday December 16th, 2016 11:03:34 PM

Sid sneaks across the street. He uses the natural dim light. The Sins for Sale establishment is evidently a kind of restaurant. The menu on the wall lists entrees such as "long pork" and "fillet of kid" -- a prominent notice declares, "Do not ask about the meat!" Do they really serve human flesh? It seems ambiguous.

More importantly, a few infected zombies remain in the place, and thank goodness for that 26 stealth check -- no need to roll since the ones here cannot beat that. Still, it does not seem like a safe place to be. Sid shuts the door firmly (it had been ajar) and returns.

Dorbin and anyone else who chews the medicinal herb gains a +5 on fort saves versus the Infection.

Bartomus has a moment of disquiet as he feel the infection starting ... and he feels suddenly very very HUNGRY! But the medicine and a new save -- not to mention medicinal help from Micah -- has Bart feeling back to normal in no time.

Micah also tells the party that one of the dead wears a magical ring. For some reason, Micah did not pick it up himself while the spell was active.

The paladins are at odds. K sheathes his sword and suggests moving on. Zanderallen suggests a tactical retreat.

Liam continues sweet-talking the manager. She smiles and gives her name as Illy. She looks forward to a future visit. But she becomes more serious about the Infected as she sees what happens to Bart and hears Liam and Stohp.

Stohp herself is all business with the smoking lady. "We need to find a man named Bruce. He's an alchemist connected to those responsible for spreading this plague. Can you direct us to him, or to someone who might know where he lives?"

[OOC: In general, my friends, keep in mind that your DMs present and future will appreciate skill checks rolled in situations such as these. Especially Diplomacy]

Illy thanks you for your help here on the Trash. "It's an ill turn that does not help Illy, I always say," she quips. "And if you Up-town boys and girls ever want to help us down here with problems that do NOT threaten to infect the upper levels, that's good too!"

"But yeah, sure, I know Bruce, He supplies me with some certain concoctions from time to time. He hangs at Sully's Tattoos. Sully is his girl, so there's that. And he makes her inks." She gives you directions to the tattoo parlor, which is number 70 on this map.

Venturing outside to see what the rest of the team are up to, the bard casts Prestidigitation onto Bart. This won't heal ya big guy, but feeling clean always raises my spirits. Sugar then informs them that we have the location for Bruce the alchemist and can head there straight away.

K's not sneaky, but he doesn't wear metal and is very limber. He should be somewhat quiet.

Now that he is confident that Bartomus will be fine, and seeing that Dorbin is busy, Micah returns to where he saw the magic ring.

Being careful not to disturb the corpse both out of caution and respect, he gently removes the ring. In hopes that they might be able to return such a valuable item to its rightful owner, he checks the body for anything that might give a clue to his identity which is difficult today without risking exposure to more spores.

The bite still looked nasty, but was not angry with the odd color radiating from it.

Sugar thanks Illy then makes notes. She ventures outside and casts Prestidigitation onto Bart Sugar lets the others know where Bruce is located.
Bart appreciates Sugar’s help and asks about heading to the tattoo parlor? He is interested in checking out the line art.
Sid prays for the lost. He marks the door to the restaurant and Trashy Treasures. He then locks the doors securely. Outside, in the streets are empty except for the bodies of the infected that you just dispatched. He sees everyone seems to be almost ready and heads back to the others.
K suggests you head out to ensure Bruce is still alive. He adds that they are not in the position to take on the other infected but should check because they need to find the alchemist.
(OOC: With no Stealth check my assumption would be your are as loud as you could be without armor ;)
Micah feels a bit better about Bart’s status. He sees that Dorbin and Micah are busy and pulls the ring off the corpse. He checks the body but sees very little. Lying on the ground is a green ring or something you can’t make out.
Dorbin approaches Micah and asks for the ring. From first glance, before Micah even hands you the ring you notice something familiar. It’s a bluish color with a hint of waves. Micah only: Highlight to display spoiler: { This is the Ring of Water Walking worth 15,000 gp - CL 9}
Bart adds, "So, if we are going to go that direction, we need to be able to do so without a lot of noise, or light I would guess. I almost wonder if we could send a bit of light rolling down one corridor, and we move down another?"
Bart feels better but there is a shadow of an unnatural hunger rumbling within.
Stohp nods and waits for the others.
Zander agrees and snuffs out his lantern.

Oh, Abraham… he was just sick.” She sobbed loudly. Several more residents stepped out and they cried.
Being a bit dark, others began to appear with illumination attracting unwanted attention.

Sid keeps his eyes open and his dagger in hand and hopes they can get the crowd to dispatch quickly. Crowd control isn't his forte and he gets slightly overwhelmed by trying to watch so many targets

Part of K is upset with these people. Sick folk aren't turned by clerics, undead folk are turned by clerics. This is stupid.

However, the other part of K is a paladin of the goddess of love, so those thoughts are quashed. He does what he can to comfort the grieving woman. "My apologies, miss, but Abraham here was already passed when he attacked us. It's why our priest was able to affect him like he was.

"I know it's little comfort, but we were able to release his spirit from undeath."

He looks up at Stohp, trying to convey, "let's get our people moving" with a look.

A sense of despair overtakes Zanderallen as he sees all these people wander out. They didn't deserve what was happening down here. But there is so much to do. How were they supposed to make a difference? Drawing inspiration from K he takes a deep breath, and then releases. There was one thing very definite they could do. Bart realizes that they could go from porch to porch but gets overwhelmed by the smell and begins to gag. (OOC: Unsure where the Stealth check is. Looking at your sheet I assume it’s the 8. Correct me if I’m wrong)
Bart is noticeably sick. A bit hard to be stealthy and sick.
Sid informs Stohp about the other shops. He hopes to dispatch the crowd…
But that is going to be difficult. More people begin to trickle out into the street to find relatives. They don’t seem to be too friendly once they find someone they know upon the ground. Sid barely manages to hide from the crowd as it masses on the corpses. They begin to pick up the dead to carry them away. Perception vs. DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { The green spores fall from the bodies as they are picked up. They hang on the clothing of the mourners. }
Sugar bristles as the woman cry. The infected seem to stick to the shadows so far but Sugar adds, “Look at all of those torches and lanterns. Sugar speaks sarcastically. It reminds me of a classic bedtime story; I think we're the villains.” Sugar is successfully hidden under the darkness of the Sins for Sale, which juts out onto Cutthroat Lane.
Perception vs DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: {To the right is a small alley between the fence surrounding the Under Ramp and the next building, which seems to be a home, with the windows and doors sealed shut. }
K is partially upset with the crowd. “Sick folk aren't turned by clerics, undead folk are turned by clerics.” He then quashes those thoughts and apologies to the woman. The woman continues to sob but seem pacified. She waits as a young man picks up Abraham and begins to carry him away.
Micah[/b] says, "It appears to be a Ring of Water Walking," Micah says softly as he hands it to Dorbin. "Keep it for now." He then adds loudly, "These poor souls were more than just sick, but were corrupted with dark power. Were they merely ill, the healing power would not have harmed them." "Please. Please. Get off the streets. There may be more. You will be much safer inside."
“We are mere peasants in this world of Trash,” snapped the young man that picked up Abraham. “We are tools for the ones above us. Every twenty years adventures dare to come down here. We will not leave our dead on the streets.” The young man continued till the older woman stepped forward and stopped him. Both walked away carrying the body.
Zander feels a sense of despair for all the people but there is a lot to do. He concludes that they need to find Bruce to stop this disease. Unfortunately, a cat walks in front of Zander and screams loudly as you step on it’s tail.

K can't help but laugh as Zander blows their attempts at being quiet so spectacularly. He slaps the paladin in the back and walks beside him. "It's fine. Our kind is not meant to skulk. Let's find this Bruce and get out of here."

Seeing people move forward he says, "I'll take point... where are we going again?" After he's caught up he goes forward to scout, stops and turns to Stohp. "Hey Boss, those spores are getting everywhere on the... next of kin. I've been thinking about cleansing fire, but I don't know if that is an option. Think about it though." With that he goes to the forefront of the group, far enough that he can start scouting ahead, but not so far that he can't be called back.

Stohp agrees with both points made by her party members. "We are poorly supplied for this, but this Bart lives nearby. If he helped make this plague, then he probably knew enough to prepare for it. Once we get there, with luck, we can secure more antidote and hole up for a short rest. Keep your eyes peeled for a smithing shop or other place we can get slashing weapons."

Stohp notices the falling spores (Perception 27) and her heart skips a beat. Of course, that's how they intend to spread it. Victims attack others and spread it, and if defeated then the corpses spread it further to any who touch them. Quickly she examines the package of medicine they were given, trying to judge how many doses are left. They've all had some and should be good for now. Guessing how much they need for another 2 doses for the entire party, she takes that much out and shoves it in a pocket.

Stepping forward, Stohp addresses the hostile crowd. "I am truly sorry for you loss and wish there had been any other way. Please, we brought medicine to prevent this plague from spreading. Take the fallen, care for them, and take this medicine as well. Make sure everyone who interacts with the bodies has some, and give any extra to anyone who has been attacked or otherwise interacted with the infected. If any of you know an alchemist, run a sample to them. We need more of it if we're going to treat everyone in the Trash." (Diplomacy 21).
