Scene 4 - The Biggun Camp

DM Mark - Bugs and Bizig
Monday January 2nd, 2017 4:03:41 PM

The party regards this goblin. From their shallow cave, they can see some fires and activity maybe 100’ beyond him, but are satisfied that it is unlikely they are seen being observed.

Bizig the goblin returns the party’s gaze, and looks a bit puzzled. He tries the proffered food with a grimace, and then he pulls a bug out of his pocket and chews it with a satisfied look.

“You guys need better food.”

“So, what you guys doing here? This place idn’t always safe fer us, and it sure ain’t safe fer you. The bigguns don’t see you as much of a threat, but they do like to eat your kind - alot more than eating goblins an orcs. You guys don’t seem so bad - I can see why they’re not too worried about invading where you all live.”

He absently shoves a finger deep into his nose as he speaks.

“I don’t really want no trouble, an you should get outta here quick. Imma jes go back now. I kin keep quiet you know. If you got some money, I an keep reeeel quiet, cause news of you would be worth sumpin to those bigguns. Specially to Dolp an Hairshirt. An if you got some money, mebe I kin tell you stuff about these bigguns.”

Bliss is in favor of giving him some money, but he looks at the others before doing it. If no one objects, he'll hand the fellow 10 gold pieces.

In halfling, he says, "Tendel, I hate to see you go, but I'm sure you would do a great job of relating what we have found. Hope you find Bill. You mind waiting a couple minutes until we hear the answer to what our goblin acquaintance has to say?"

He turns to the goblin and says, "Sure. Tell us some things about the bigguns, Bizig. Specially about Dolp an' Hairshirt," Murphy says. He nods approval to Bliss's offering.

Before the cleric departs, he gives him the map he had earlier sketched out. He shakes Tendel's hand, and says farewell to Onalep. "Safe journeys, and may Ma'ab watch over you both."

Shel nods at giving the goblin some gold. "Depending on how good your information is, there could be more gold. Enough gold to make you goblin boss, maybe," Shel whispers conspiratorially.

Minor Point of Clarification -

Your spellcraft rolls would have identified the tuning fork you found to have the following properties:

Tuning Fork of the Planes - This simple tuning fork contains the spell Plane Shift. It may be used as a standard action, and the user must succeed on a touch attack. This will shift the foe to the Elemental Plane of Air (DC 19 Will save to negate.) The tuning fork is a single use item worth 2,250 GP.

Alleah looks at the goblin closely. She's trying to gauge how trustworthy he might be, and what might constitute a tidy sum to him. "Of course you'd have to have a story to tell the others as to how you came across the coins. A story that doesn't involve us"

(OOC: short post. The site ate my longer one.)

Pressi watched as Tendel moved his way off towards the forest. "I know we didn't get off to the best start. You take care of yourself."

Pressi makes an attempt to aid another in diplomacy (roll 12, it was 15 before) and opens the treasure chest to gather the coins to buy his intelligence (and silence). "Just so you know, we may not be a threat to the giants. But you can bet we'll be a threat to you. If you breathe a word of this, I will personally make sure you die with us. Assuming you don't give the money back."

As for Pressi's questions, they all relate to this idea of the giants seeing them as a non-threat food source.

1) Why are they attacking in the first place? Why do they want the land?
2) Why did they feel the need to join together and mass an army and enslave a bunch of goblins?
3) Why is there a split between the slavery and kill them all contingents?
4) Why haven't they begun just attacking, and have they developed any strategy for attacking?
5) Are there places where they keep their weapons or supplies.

(I'm assuming the cost will be much higher than 10 gp.)

The party bids farewell to Tendel, and Murphy make sure he goes with a sketched out map of where the giants are. Then they turn their attention to the goblin in their midst. Bizig hints that for the right sum, he might both keep quiet and provide information.

Alleah tries to gauge the value of his clothing. This is hard to do, as it’s quite an agglomeration of things - it certainly has no value in its present state. There are a few parts that may have once been rather nice, but most is either very common or unidentifiable - hard to tell through all the dirt. She’s not sure, but his sleeves look like more like pant legs. No telling what kind of hide the grimy leather he wears is made of.

Bliss offers him 10 GP, and the goblin at first seems surprised at the sum. But Shel’s mention of enough gold to make him a goblin boss causes some quick recalculations. You can almost hear the gears turn in his head as he weighs his options. Alleah thinks him to be fairly shrewd and straightforward - for a goblin.

“Hmmm. 10 GP will buy my silence, but enough gold to buy some influence here? That’d be lots more. An if I turns you in, I gets nothin from these jerk giants.” He looks sideling at Pressi, “You threatnin me? Huh - you’re the least of my troubles here. But let’s us get back to the money thing…”

He is oddly at ease among you. Alleah senses that perhaps he’s seen a lot worse than a bunch of halflings - even if one of you does have a wolf. He keeps his distance from the wolf.

Just then, you hear something moving through the brush as another goblin pops up. “Hey Bizig - what happened to you? We was waitin and waitin, but you was still gone so I come lookn for ya. Hey, who’re these…...uh, what the heck is going on here. Are these escape prisoners or new slaves? You know they’re jes gonna get et. Ooooo - where’d you get that gold?”

Bizig looks up at the sky, “Ughh, Gutplug, you gots the worstest timing. I was about to score a whole lotta money.”

He turns to the party. “C’mon you may as well come back to the fire wid me. Gutplug’s my friend, but he gots a really big mouth. An’ bring yer gold - between all of us we should be able to answer yer questions. Most of ‘em at least.”

He and a puzzled Gutplug begin to move back toward the encampment.

If the party hesitates or tries to stop them, he says “C’mon - nobody’ll know you ain’t one of us if ya keep yer heads covered. You’re too clean tho - we can fix that. Ya can prolly bring that wolf thing too. If ya put him on a rope ya kin say you was jes walkin him around for one a the giants."

Gutplug says, “Hey, you guys got any bugs?”

Both Bizig and Gutplug steer clear of Meko.

Bliss says farewell to Tendel and thaqnks him for sending back word.

He dons his goblin kid disguise. He's more than willing to head down to the goblin fire.

"Come on you guys," he urges. "What could go wrong?"

Mookie rolls his eyes. He casts Reduce Person on Mookie (and repeats every few minutes) so he will blend in more as a teensy blackbird.

"Hey Mooks! I gotta tell ya about a dream I had that I got a prop for a puppet show. Now I just need some puppets." [referring to the GG Yule Party]

Alleah takes her lucky coin from her pocket and flips it. (d2=2) Tails. Well, if anything represented the "tail end" of things, goblins might just be it.

She casts prestidigitation a number of times on each member of the party to dirty them up, and also add some unsavoury smells. It's the first time she's used the spell to make things dirty.

Alleah then casts Disguise Self on herself to make her look a bit more 'goblin-y'. Fortunately she also naturally speaks goblin.

She tucks anything valuable looking inside her clothes, and tries to use her hair to cover her headband a bit more.

--------------------------
- Cast Prestidigitation as much as necessary to dirty everyone up
- Cast Disguise Self to look more goblin like
- Use Touch of Luck ability on self. For the next round, any time Alleah rolls a d20, she may roll twice and take the more favorable result.
- Disguise Check: Same Gender (+0) + Same Height (+0) + Same Age (+0) + Different Race (-2) + Disguise Self Spell (+10) + Disguise Skill (+6) = +14. I rolled a +17, but then realised the Disguise Check is made secretly by the DM. Touch of Luck hopefully means Alleah will get the better of two rolls

Pressi can be bristly about a lot. But she particularly bristles at Shel's complaints. "Oh, are you in, Shel? Because I wouldn't want to keep you from whatever else you are doing and I'm sure Tendel would like the company. Personally, I'm glad to avoid drinking with the ogres for a second night in a row."

Pressi, Alleah and Bliss all use magic to disguise themselves as goblins. Others pull hoods up over their heads. Alleah makes sure all are suitably dirty. Pressi tries to pick a fight with Shel, earning a satisfied nod from Gutplug.

The goblins Bizig and Gutplug lead the party out of their relative cover. The sights and smells in this valley are not pleasant, and goblins, orcs, ogres and giants seem gathered around fires talking, eating and fighting. Looking around, it’s clear it will take a long time for the area to recover if the giant encampment ever leaves. It has been stripped of most of its resources. Murphy doesn’t think anyone here has thought to build a proper latrine.

They lead you to a small fire and gathering of goblins on the edge of the encampment. There are about five other goblins there. They all seem to wear odd brown hats. Some of them notice you approach.

A fat goblin says, “Oooo, Gutplug - you found Bizig. We gots party hats fer the party - here’s yers! Did you get any bugs…....wait a minuite. Who them other goblins wid you? We don’t got no hats fer them. An they’re not eating out special cake!”

A small, sharp eyed goblin speaks up, “Hey, they not all goblins! Bizig - did you find some prisoners to sell? Woo-hoo! We kin get some money fer….Ooof.” Just then another goblin elbows him in the side and give him a sly look.

Bizig says, “Shuddup Bungleak. You too Scabby. These ain’t no prisioners - they’s guests! Look - they gimme these gold jes to keep quiet about em. They gots more gold, and they wants us to tell ‘em stuff bout the giants. They hates the stoopid giants too! An they’s little like us.”

One of them looks at Bliss, “One’s real little. What you sposed to be? Ain't no midget goblins round here.”

Gutplug adds, “Yeah, they gots gold. I seen it.”

As the wolf comes into sight (how is he secured?) There are gasps, and two make to run off.

“AAAHHHH - WHAT’S THAT DOING HERE!”

“Hey - I don’t want no part of no wolf dogs! How do you know theys not workin with the ogres or sumpin?”

“An we aint feedin that thing neither!”

Oddly, all of them seem to speak and understand Common. The hats are made from formed, dried dung of some sort. Murphy’s sharp eye notes an orc at a distant fire stands up and looks toward the group.

Bizig says, “HEY! Calm down! We kin be rich, but if you runs off, you gets nuthin.”

The ones running away stop short. A goblin with a missing eye stares at the group with his one good eye as he says to Bizig, “So, what do they wants to know fer this gold they gots? How much they payin? How do we know they ain’t here to cause us trouble? Them giants might put us in charge if we turns em in.” He draws a wicked looking knife, and his one eye looks nervously at the wolf.

There’s tension in the air.

With his back to the orc, Murphy says, "An orc at that fire over yonder," with his finger just below chest level pointing as it were through his body in the direction of the orc, "has his eye on us."

Back to common, he adds, speaking to the goblins, "We can kill ogres and giants, though we don't always do that. Usually only if they're comin' against our people, or think we might make tasty tidbits. That's not why we're here now, though. People who help us, we like to help them. You wanna help us?"

He looks at the one-eyed goblin with the knife. "Any one of us here could kill you in the blink of an eye, so you might want to put that pretty sticker away. We'd rather be friendly, and keep you alive. Besides, I came over because we heard there was gonna be a party here. So, let's party! By the way, you can call me Bombo."

He hopes his friends pick up on the clue, and call him by that name. He is sure that Shel recalls how they chose road names as they first traveled the Red Hills. Anyone who has read the journals he keeps and has freely shared may also be aware.

Alleah reaches in to her kit and finds the souvenir she collected from the Belly Buster: A soft, doughy cake drizzled with caramel and sugar (*Per post 24/08/2016). She places it on the ground in front of her and the other goblins. "Look what I found" she says in common "Who wants?".

Pressi's eyes swiveled as "Bombo," trying to figure out what he is on about. It didn't seem like disguising their particular names was the issue. (At any event, she already gave her name, so....)

She also cringes as Murphy and Shel build on to her earlier threats, wondering if they need to back off a little. Instead, she says "We understand your concerns but the fact that they're deciding to enslave or eat us raises the possibility we aren't with them, just a little.... By the way, among other reasons you shouldn't tell on us, don't think that the giants will ever make you anything but slaves. When they're done with us, they'll come for you first chance they get.

"You see, I speak from existence as..." Pressi talked through the loud groans and eye rolls from her team as she brought up her sad and lonely past. Again. I don't remember which of her teammates reminds her that she can do the sad past thing only once per day, but I'm sure one of them will.

Kezzem seeks to spin a tale to catch the attention of the goblins there. He gets a bunch of blank looks (all of them saved!). One of the goblins asks, “so, did them cloud giants eat Jack an Jill? They was dead and crippled, so the giant shoulda jes eat em. An what’s a cloud giant?”

Bliss catches the attention of a couple that want to try his yo-yo. One want’s to trade you his dung hat for the yo-yo. Another asks, “Why you so small? Ain’t never seen no goblin small as you.” Another replies, “He can’t be no goblin kid. He’d still be in the pen wid the others at that size.” “It look like a goblin, but mebe it’s sumpin else.”

Shel also has a couple admirers. “OK there princess - show us some fire!” “Yeah, heh heh, fire! We wants fire!”

Alleah manages to grab one of the two hats meant for Gutplug and Bizig and puts it on her head. She can tell right away it’s made from dung. Yech. As she pulls out her cake, she becomes rather popular, and some begin to fight over who gets the cake.

Murphy points out the folly of antagonizing the wolf or it’s owner. At his mention of the orc, one of the goblin yells, “YEAH, LOOK ALL YA WANT YA JERKFACE. WE GOT STUFF YOU AIN’T GOT, AN YER NOT ….mmmphfff.” He’s quickly tackled by two of his friends. “Shuddup you idiot. We’re not sharing no gold or cake with those lugs.” The orc continues to stand and look your direction, seeming to be deciding what to do.

Shel and Murphy’s threats catch the attention of some there, and they take a step back from the newcomers. The goblin with the one eye still has his knife out and says, “Yeah, make yer threats. I got 99 problems, but you ain’t one. Show us this money.”

Pressi launches into her sad childhood. The small one named Scabby says, “Wah, wah, wah. You had to dance and you got caught stealin. Boooooring. Socket’s right - somebody said sumpthin about money. She uses her bare hands to tear chunks from the cake and hands them to any nearby goblins. "Why we party?"

As others are talking, Murphy reaches into his haversack and extracts a half round of cheese. He cuts about a pound and a half of it into roughly equal pieces - enough for one for each person present, and leaving about a pound left over, which he returns to his haversack. "Parties need food. This is cow cheese. Some people like it, some don't" He puts his knife away, with the cheese resting on the outside of a bag. He sticks 5 gold pieces in each of the pieces for the goblins, and passes the slices around to halflings and goblins alike.

Murphy laughs at Kezzem's story, especially the cloud giant effects. "Ah, poor Jack. Not quite nimble nor quick enough."

Gold does nothing for a slave or dead man... looking at the goblin with the knife drawn, his hand rests on his sword hilt, Meko gives a low growl while eyeing the threating goblin.

Shel offers more gold. She holds out 20 GP, and get’s some startled stares from the other goblins. With her off to show her fire power, the fat one named Bungleak says, “Hey, show us your fire power on those orcs! Those guys are jerks - burn ‘em, burn ‘em!”

Alleah’s sharp eye can see that from the fiber in the hat, they are likely made from the dung of herbivorous animals. It’s mostly dried. Mostly. She tries not to think about it too much. The goblins greedily fall on the cake she offers. Sky grabs a bit for Meko.

Kezzem continues with a story the goblins cannot follow, and he gets puzzled looks. When he mentions the cloud giant farts, and they seem interested again.

Murphy hands out hunks of cheese to all the 7 real goblins there (not to those in goblin disguises.) His sharp ears pick up their reactions. “Why’d he put the gold in the cheese?” “I dunno. Jes take it. Halflings ain’t too smart.”

Sky tells them there will be no problem so long as the goblins don’t make it a problem.

Bliss feels like he being ignored. “What’s you problem pipsqueak? We ain’t ingoring you none. Make with the gold an we can talk.”

Muphy passed 35 gold. Shel begins taking back her 20 gold.

Pressi tells them to name a price, and after some back and forth, below is what your gold will buy you. This will be in addition to the 10 GP you gave to Bizig. If pressed, he will assert it was a finder’s fee.

10 GP total - the attention and agreement that all there will remain silent about the halflings (probably.)
20 GP total - Highlight to display spoiler: {”Yeah, you may be a threat to me, but I agree you’re no threat to these bigguns. They certainly are worried about their safety from you - they don’t take halflings very seriously.”}
40 GP total - Highlight to display spoiler: {”Us goblins and maybe even the orcs would jump at the chance to escape these stupid ogres and giants. I hate those jerks. But they gots food and they’d probably hunt is down if’n we left. So here we are. But don't’ count on us raising a hand against ‘em. They kin squash us flat!”}
50 GP total - Highlight to display spoiler: {”Who’s in charge? I don’t care, long as they’re not beatin on me. Most these jerks favor Dolp or Hairshirt. Dolp’s in that cave way over there. Hairshirt’s in a cave on the others side. I’d steer clear of both of ‘em. They don’t care nuthin for us, an’ll smash us little folk without a thought.”}
70 GP total - Highlight to display spoiler: {”Dolp? He’s just another jerk hill giant, an’ he gots more followers here. We think he’s the leader. I hear that rotten Hairshirt is a massive Stone Giant. Ooooh, he’s a bad one he is.”}
80 GP total - Highlight to display spoiler: {”What do they want with you little folk? Beat’s me. Rumor is that Dolp jus’ wants to raid you folks now and then for goods an’, er, food when they need it. I hear that Hairshirt wants to rules the Crescent Valley, an be the boss o all you little folk.}
100 GP total - Highlight to display spoiler: {”There’s lots of giants here - different types, an different clans. If’n they didn’t have Dolp an Hairshirt, who knows what would happen? Seems like they’re all only here cuz of these two. I don’t wanna be here now, but I sure don’t wanna be here if there nobody in charge. We’d be et fer sure - after they was done whompin on each other!”}

"Right. The cheese is for the party we're supposed to be celebrating. The gold in the cheese is for you, in partial payment for working with us." As he talked, Murphy takes out another 35 gp. "Here's some more payment," and he divides it into 7 stacks of 5 gp each, which he lays out before him. He steps back and allows them to each take a stack. "And, if you tell us pretty near everything, here's even more." He counts out another 35 (these additions, plus the cheese-delivered 35, make 105 gp - 15 each). This he does not give them yet. "Talk, tell the truth, and if I'm satisfied, only then do I give it."

"We protect people from giants. You are afraid of them. Makes sense. They are strong, and don't care about hurting us lil'uns. Do you recall that we kill giants? We've take out several in the past few days. Now, we don't want to kill them all - can't really do that, anyhow. Besides, I have some friends who are giants, and an ogre or two, likewise. But we want to make sure that these giants don't try to come down and take over our homes, and bring terror to our children."

"Tell us what you know - and know that if you accept this gold, you and we are allies. That means no rattin' on each other. We have ways of knowing."

He lets them talk for a while. After they have done so to a fair extent, he adds, "Now, how can someone get in to see where Dolp is - without getting squished?" He takes out yet one more stack of coins. He doesn't count it, but there should be about 50. "This is for whoever can come up with a plan - if the plan seems good and sound. Also, some of this I can place elsewhere where you can get it later. I'm pretty good at keeping my promises. You might not want to be caught with too much gold on you all at once."

He also considers the orcs. "She could burn 'em easy, sure, Bungleak, but we don't want to draw too much attention yet. Work with us, though, and you'll learn what we can do. You might get good stories you can tell your children some day. Or brag about to your friends - and enemies."

Should Murphy look towards Alleah, she will nod, indicating she too will contribute to the gold pieces. She still doesn't want to break goblin-disguise though.

Alleah smiles to the goblins eating the cake. She had considered eating some herself just to fit in. But the last thing she touched with her hands - apart form the cake - was the still drying dung hat. This would be one of those occasions where washing your hands before eating would be recommended.

Pressi thought about what the goblins told them as Murphy and Alleah began to shell out the necessary prices.

Dolp's system made sense. Grab a bunch of towns that you expect will be an easy fight and farm them until they are fallow. Short sighted and quite common. She still couldn't understand Hairshirt's position if they truly didn't fear halflings. Sure, some people want land and power for its own sake, but still....

The disagreement was subtle but clear. Dolp's men could not eat if Hairshirt wins and disrupts that farm system. And if Dolp gets his farm, Hairshirt doesn't get the glory. So, why even work together at all. If the fight is so easy, why make an alliance?

Pressi prepared to take out some more coins. "Is there a historian on this site? Someone who could tell us about hill-stone relationships or about how Dolp and Hairshirt even met?"

DM Mark - The Magnificent Seven  d100=49 ; d6=2 ; d6=3 ;

Murphy adds more gold to the offer, and tries to establish a rapport with the goblins posing the giants as a common enemy. He asks “how can someone get in to see where Dolp is - without getting squished?” He offers more gold if the goblins can come up with a good plan for this.

They begin to fall all over each other to come up with a plan. None of these “plans” make much sense. They’re based on you tunneling through stone, or strapping yourselves to wolves, or standing on each others shoulders under a large cloak to look like giants. You have not stumbled upon the brightest tacticians in this valley.

Alleah tries to convey to Murphy her general agreement, but want’s to still be seen as one of the goblins. She considers eating the cake along with the others, but decides against it after handling the dung hat she wears.

Kezzem asks about what other sorts of giants may be here.

Pressi asks “"Is there a historian on this site? Someone who could tell us about hill-stone relationships or about how Dolp and Hairshirt even met?"

The one-eyed goblin named Socket lowers his knife, “What’s a histrian? Izzat a kind o giant?”
“I don’t even want to know about no hill giants and stone giants in no relationship.”
“Yeah, Dolp an Hairshirt ain’t boyfriends or nuthin.”

The goblins seem excited to tell you all the giants they’ve seen or have heard that others saw.
“Hmmm. I seen a white one. And a lumpy red one.”
“An I seen a green giant here in the valley!”
“I talked to a guy that saw two giants that was ghost giants.”
“I hear there was giant bears too!” “There’s lots of grey ones here, an brown ones!”
“They all fart.”
“Well, duh - everybody farts!”

Bliss talks in Sylvan to Murphy and anyone else who can understand, and everyone else can talk Halfling. That way we can have a private conversation.

Bliss's idea is that an assassination team sneaks into one cave and takes out one giant leader, then escapes. Then everyone else goes for the other leader. Once both are dead, we hightail it out of there.

[See email for more details.]

Shel nods at Bliss. "I don't think we can get both of hem at once. I think we focus on one, make it look like the other did it, and hopefully have of these giants get mad and go home. We run away, then we figure out a plan to deal with ththe other boss in a day or two. It'll take all of us to beat a stone giant, they are gen bigger than those hill giants!"

She turns to her goblin 'friends.' "I'd be happy to call down fire on the orcs. But we have to be sneaky now. If you hide and watch, before long, there will be plenty of fire flying around."

Alleah nods and tries to hide a grin at Shel's comments. Focusing on one giant at a time certainly made sense.

"Things could get dangerous. Clumsy giants might squash goblins. Perhaps goblins should go somewhere safe? " Alleah says to the goblins near her.

Bliss (AC28, HP56) & Tiny Mookie (AC23, HP28) (Cayzle)

Bliss clarifies his idea. Team A is the assault team, who sneaks in and attacks the giant leader. Team B is the covert team, who stays hidden the whole time and provides support and distraction. Bliss's idea is for the assault team to stealth in and flank the leader, then sneak attack with surprise. Bliss as an eagle or a tengu flanks with one rogue; Sky flanks with the other. With luck, the leader goes down in one or two rounds. Then Bliss HiPSs out of there, two rogues use a potion and an injectable of invisibility and sneak out, and maybe Shel casts Invisibility on Sky and he (and everyone) stealths out. A parting confusion spell as the assault team departs may help!

Taking the cue from Bliss, Murphy responds in Sylvan, then in halfling to the rest of the crew, plus some common sprinkled in here and there.

The gist of it is that we go first against Dolp, see how that goes, then decide what needs to be done after that. "It's the hill giants who want to eat us all."

In halfling & sylvan he lays out some ideas.

To the goblins, and his friends, he adds, "Great risk can bring great reward. If a few of you were to help us gain access, and also serve to distract the biguns, we would be very happy to give even greater reward."

He asks whether there are any goblin dogs around. If so, he posits he might be able to get into the hill giants' caves while serving as a mount for someone.

He tells the group he might be able to do one more scouting run, then would like to get some sleep in preparation for a mission on the morrow.

To the fact that everyone began to coalesce around the assassination, Pressi stared appalled. "I cannot believe what I am hearing. We are talking about sneaking up on and killing a living being, probably unarmed and helpless because it can't be a fair fight, in the hopes of sparking a civil war. What you are suggesting is far more evil and dishonorable than anything we've ever done, that Cameron ever did. You're literally taking a page from my mother's playbook. Sense Motive on our new goblin buddies: 17

DM Mark - The Magnificent Seven
Tuesday January 10th, 2017 5:16:28 PM

The giant/ogre/orc/goblin camps are all pretty loud. The giants are the loudest of all. Occasionally you see a goblin go flying through the air. You’re guessing these not any of nature’s creatures within a mile of here.

The party begins to discuss plans in languages the goblins do not seem to understand. Mostly, they seem to give you puzzled looks and ask what you’re saying. Bungleak makes fun of the words. But the one they called Scabby seems to be listening and trying to understand what’s being said. Kezzem can sense, Highlight to display spoiler: {Scabby has little idea what’s being said, but he seems to be one of the smarter goblins here and is trying to sort out these strange words.}

Some things are also said directly to the goblins there. Shel says she’ll unleash fire later. Alleah suggests “Perhaps goblins should go somewhere safe?” Murphy promises reward if they help. He ask if there are goblin dogs around because he could pose as a goblin dog. Pressi wants to know about a “talky man? Someone who speaks like me or who runs around with paper or maybe wears something over his eyes?”

“Somewhere safe? Why? What’s gonna happen? We’re safe here - ain’t we?”
“Yeah, we don’t want no part of what yous planning. But you kin kill all the folks here you want!”
“Yeah, we kin help clean up! We’ll take a reward fer that!”
“What kind reward?”
“Hey! Where’s my hat? Sumbody gots my hat!”
“You don’t look like no goblin dog. There’s some here - I think the Oozing Boil Tribe gots sum wit em.”
“Ugh - those guys are gross!”
“Wat’s a talky man?”
“A guy with papers on his eyes? Who wears papers on his eyes?”
“AWWWRIGHT. EVERYBODY FREEZE! NOBODY GOES NO WHERES TIL I GETS MY HAT BACK!”

The party continues discussing plans. That stupid orc is still standing up, looking over at the group.

Bliss tries to firm up the plan.

He looks at the map and at the encampment. He investigates as to which cave is Hairshirt's Cave and which is Dolp's Cave. He looks at the cave mouths to find out how wide they are. He takes note of how far each is from the party's current goblin camp, and especially from each other. He ponders having to dash from one to the next, and checks the terrain between.

He goes over his proposed plan with his friends.

First, prep cast and buff.

Then, using stealth, Bliss, Sky, Pressi, and Kezzem sneak deep into Hairshirt's Cave. Mookie, Alleah, Shel, and Murphy stay in the opening to the cave, either invisible or hiding in an inconspicuous animal or goblin form.

Bliss, Sky, Pressi, and Kezzem locate Hairshirt and Bliss alerts Mookie. Mookie passes on the word, and Alleah casts Silence, Murphy casts Summons, Shel casts as she sees fit. The four insiders flank and attack Hairshirt (Bliss with the tuning fork). They keep on attacking until Hairshirt is dead or blipped away. Then they use invisibility (potions, injectable) and HiPS to get out.

The party rushes over to the next cave, rinses, and repeats on Dolp. Then escapes.

Thoughts?

"I still think taking on two of those biguns that close in time isn't a great idea. I say we see how the first one goes and then we can decide if we are okay with trying for the next one." Shel hoped the others couldn't tell how scared she was having to go up against the two giant leaders and whatever bodyguards they had with them.

The group continues to discuss plans.

Shel is becoming suspicious of the orc who seem to think something is suspicious. The orc eventually loses interest, but continues to glance over your direction from time to time.

Bizig can see that Shel is concerned. “Yeah, what’s with that orc anyway?”

Alleah does her best to persuade the agitated goblin to let her keep the hat. Kezzem just want’s the hat discussion to end. The goblin responds, “Hmmm. I let you keep it for 5 gold. Orrrrrr, for jes a big smooth for Knockhead.” And with that, he steps up to Alleah, puckers his lips, and closes his eyes waiting expectantly.

She asks if giants and orcs sleep at night. Scabby says, “Orcs an goblins usually sleep durin the day, and giants usually sleep at night, But these giants seem to stay up pretty late. We goblins jes try to catch sleep where we can, in between bein bossed around.”

Then Scabby yells, “YEAH, KEEP LOOKING YA STOOOOOOPID ORC. THERE MORE OF US NOW, AN WE’LL KICK YER...ooof, mrmphh.” He’s quickly tackled and silenced again. The orc seems to pay little mind to this.

Bliss looks at the map and around the camp. He asks about Dolp’s and Hairshirt’s caves. Gutplug points to a cave entrance about 200 feet away wide. The entrance looks to be about 20’ wide, and a fire burns near it’s entrance. “That where Dolp the dope is. Hairshirt across that way.” Bliss looks where he’s pointing on the other side of the valley about a half a mile across.

Bliss looks across the valley at all the campfires, with creatures moving here and there, the giants towering over the orcs and goblins, and the ogres somewhere in between. There seems to be a fair amount of activity, with the littler creatures serving or being kicked around by the larger. He can’t really make our where it is - but it’s somewhere over there.

Murphy (Kim) AC 15 HP 66/66 CMD 17 [posted before DM post up]
Wednesday January 11th, 2017 11:02:02 PM

Murphy addresses Pressi's question. "The leader of the hill giants 'helpless'? Press, he would render you, and me, and our friends, our families, snacks for himself and for those he rules. I saw a halfling roasting on a spit in the entrance to Dolp's cave complex. On the opposite side, the entrance to Hairshirt's place, was a halfling partially cut up, getting ready to cook.

"Can you or someone else come up with another way, a better way, to keep these armies from descending on our valley? If you have a better suggestion, you have my ear.

"But if not, then, yes, I will do what I can to render him beyond help entire. We are at war - the early stages. His people murder ours now daily. Recall what Alleah told us of Gloklor's thoughts? His heart was not turning away from evil. I call it killing an enemy leader who wants to eat us and ours by available means. And, we may not succeed - nothing is completely certain about this endeavor.

"Others now face additional dangers from another whom we were shy of killing. The necromancer. I've not seen any signs of his presence as of yet, but we already know he is somehow wrapped up in this - and has it out for us specifically, despite the mercy shown him."

"Now, there is one thing I see about the giants. They have a voracious hunger. Look at how they have wasted this valley - and some ogres wanted to eat our small friend. And regarding fair fights - are a few thousand giants and other biguns, and even those closer to our size - a fair fight against our valley? I mean, maybe it is, but will the giants be looking for 'fair'? Fair to me signifies that we win. Winning sooner is better than winning later. War is inherently NOT fair.

"Our valley is verdant and productive. We have the ability to harvest far more food than our own people can eat. If I thought the giants were smart enough - and reliable enough - I would be fine with attempting to convince them to trade with us, rather than to raid us.

"What we need to do, though, with these evil giants, is to throw them into confusion. There are not too many better ways of confusing someone than to cut off their head. Maybe the heads of their second and third in command, as well. Doing so may help stop this war at its early stages, rather than letting it develop at the pace the rapacious biguns want.

"We need to give our wizards time to rebuild the tower."

Then, he says, "Who wants to go with me to kick the orc in the shins? Or - hey, I know. Let's have him join in on our plan. Don't worry, guys, there won't be any cut in pay for you. I have an idea or two for him."

Murphy nods at Shel's comment. "Let's focus on Dolp," Murphy says to Bliss. "I'm picturing us hustling across several hundred yards to get to the other caves, then having giants and others pouring out of the first caves when we're about halfway across, alerting the whole valley to our presence. Unless we manage to carry this whole thing out in an exceedingly stealthy fashion, and his demise is not learned for a good amount of time... getting ourselves to a safe place is high on my list of Good Ideas." He pauses, then adds, "B'sides, Hairshirt only wants a few of us et. The rest of us he wants as slaves. Dolp wants to eat up all of us."

He does say he is not fully opposed to the idea of taking them both out. He just is trying to figure out how it could work. Also, Murphy is rather keen on accompanying the crew into the inner sanctum, rather than hanging out near the cavern entrance.

He continues, "I think it would be good to stick close enough to gauge the spreading reactions to the loss of their leader."

"Look, friends, since the giants are staying up late, how about if I, or if I and one other, scout more deeply into the cave complex. Giants were streaming in and out of the caves earlier, but when I went there earlier, for some reason the place was closed up, and no one was entering or exiting. If I could go again, invisible, get further inside, then, we might be able to come up with a better plan, and try to execute that plan in the morning."

He speaks with the goblins. "Hey, Scabby - you seem to have a good noggin. Most of the goblins I know usually just speak the goblin tongue. How come you all speak in Common? Do most of the people around here - orcs, giants, ogres - speak Common most of the time?"

"Pressi - tell me what you think of this. We take the letter we got, and deliver it to Dolp. You deliver it, and I hang on your shoulder as a bat. You go in one of your disguises. You tell him that Hairshirt has it out for him, and just plans on getting rid of him after taking over the valley. Right, there are a lot of problems with that idea. But, what do you think?" Speaking in halfling, he does not hide the conversation from others, so they can comment too. [The contents of the letter are at Murphy's post of Thursday November 24th, 2016 2:15:30 AM]

He grins as Alleah is faced with her dilemma, and Kezzem 'helps' in his unique way.

He answers Sky, "A potential idea, but I fear those folks are too many days away. I figure we have maybe 12 to 24 hours in which to act, and then escape."

Murphy thinks back to his flyovers of the area, working to recall a few potential hiding places that their team can go to. He knows the goblins would like to get away from the ogres, orcs, and giants. How might they be able to help effect their escape, as well?

"What part of the Scab are you from? How far away is it? What's your tribe called?" he asks Scabby - or whoever seems apt enough to answer.

[Perception:34 - keeping an occasional eye on the orc, and general surroundings. If the orc makes to leave, he will suggest some people join him in persuading the orc to join up with them in common cause.]

If we can only get one, we can still scrawl up a nasty message and try to break up with happy giant gathering. But, I'm ready! Let's go take him out!"

To Murphy's and Skye's pleas, Pressi fell silent and conflicted. "I just hope that one day our enemies don't say the same of us."

Ooc: as discussed off board, some of Pressi's concerns stem from misunderstandings in what the team intends.

She considers and shares some of the abilities that she has. Decent or high rogue skills. One hour as a goblin, orc or ogre child. A single use charm person bracelet and she's guessing Dolp doesn't have the brain to resist it. And her greatest asset of being a far shameless liar than Kezzem dares to dream.

She considers engaging with the orc now but decides against it.

DM Mark - The Magnificent Seven

The group continues to discuss plans. It’s still noisy down there in the valley.

Murphy experiences an unpleasant sense of deja vu as he suggests going alone into the giant’s cave. He asks Scabby why these goblins all seem to know common. “You mean human? Well, we lived near sum humans. The ones that leant to speak human was makin more money. Before you know it all these jerks was speaking human.”

Murphy also wants to know where these goblins are from. “The scab? We’s not from no scab. But they call me Scabby, so youse jes confused. We lived in a place called the Bottoms. It wus near a stream, an it gots a little floody sometimes. Our tribe was the Bottoms. We left those buttscratchers to seeks our fortune. That ain’t turned out so well - until today that is.”

As for places to hide, the caves here seem mostly occupied, but back a couple miles, there were some places Murphy recalls that the party could perhaps hide in safety. Perhaps.

Aleah attempts to use her gobliny wiles to sway Knockhead, suggesting that if he want’s a kiss, he needs to help them get to Dolp. She is very persuasive, swaying her little goblin hips like that. Knockhead opens his eyes, and scratches his groin as he thinks for a minute, which seems to be an effort. The thinking, not the scratching. Then he says, “I kin lead ya there, but I ain’t goin in. Youse crazy if you think you little ones can take out a giant. So, how bout that kiss then, eh? The big smooch gotta come before you git yerself kilt. An if you survive, mebee we kim make us some goblin babies!”

That orc that was looking your way seems to sit down again. At least you think so, cause you can’t really see him now.

Murphy walks over to the orc. He has been keeping his eye on him, and figures it's time to engage. He invites any who wish to come with him to come. He walks briskly and with a slight limp. Ever so slight. He screws up his face a little, the jaw moved to the right somewhat, the right side of his lower lip dropping down a little. When he gets there, he puts his hands on his hips and asks in 'human' - "What do you want?"

However, if the orc is slinking off, he casts longstrider, then hustles up to him. And does as described above.

Feeling she has done her part to foster goblin relations, Alleah folds her arms and waits for Knucklehead to lead the way.

OOH! OOH! We're going!

Bliss declares, "Hold on a sec! Just a minute!" He stands in the middle of his friends AND hides in plain sight to be less noticeable. You can still hear his voice, however.

He rummages in his voluminous pants pockets and starts taking things out, activating items, and passing things around:

To Alleah -- Bliss hands her four scrolls of Magic Vestment (CL5). "Please read these on me, Mookie, Pressi, and Shel." (+1 AC for 5 hours)

To Murphy -- Bliss hands him four scrolls of Barkskin (CL6). "Please read these on me, Mookie, Pressi, and Shel." (+3 AC for 1 hour)

Bliss takes out his wand of Mage Armor and taps himself, Mookie, Shel, Pressi, Sky's Tiger, and Murphy with it. AND the goblin coming with them -- Alleah's boyfriend. Bleck! He says to Murphy, "It does not work with the armor you got on, but if you change to some other creature and your armor goes away, this spell should kick in." (+4 AC for 1 hour)

To Shel and Kezzem -- Bliss hands them each an Elixer of Hiding (+10 on stealth for an hour). "Drink this!" he commands.

To Pressi -- Bliss hands her his injectable potion of invisibility. "Use this after we kill the right giant!"

To Sky and Kezzem (and himself) -- Bliss reads a Bard scroll of Heroism. (+2 on to hits, saves, skills for 40 min)

Bliss also casts Reduce Person on Mookie and tells him to stick close to Alleah.

Use Magic Device Checks

Heroism on self (DC24): d20+12=29. All other UMD checks are at +2

Heroism on Sky and Kezzem (DC24): UGH, a nat 1! Sorry Kezzem, no heroism for you! As a bard, you can read it yourself! roll 1d20+1 vs DC5, IIRC. Small chance of backfire if you fail.

Bliss takes the tuning fork of exile, if no one objects!!!

"Okay, NOW we can go in!" He goes over the plan again ... Everybody goes to the cave mouth. Bliss, Sky, Kezzem and Pressi enter the cave covertly. Maybe with 3 Invisibility spells from Shel cast before entering. Alleah, Murphy, and Shel stay at the cave mouth acting like goblins. Maybe Shel tags along after us a bit back? When the leader is located, Mookie alerts Alleah, Shel, and Murphy. Shel comes in at this point? Bliss, Sky, Pressi, and Kezzem attack! Alleah Silences the Cave Mouth. Murphy summons creatures to enter the cave as a distraction. After the leader is dead or exiled to the Plane of Air, Bliss HiPS, Pressi uses injectable Invisibility, Sky uses his potion of Invis, and Shel casts Invis on Kezzem. Then we all sneak out as Murphy and Alleah continue to send summoned monsters and obscuring mist into the cave. RIGHT??

Alleah, please try and let me move into the cave before you cast the silence. If I get caught in it, I can't do anything helpful. One last thing before we go...what if the cave is a deep cavern, or if it has multiple levels? What then? Do we go grab Alleah and Murphy before the rest of us go that deep in?"

Kezzem warns Alleah not to take a Goblin’s hat again. Then he attempts to school Knucklehead on the finer points of romance. Knucklehead listens carefully, and then looks a bit confused. “You gots lot a rules. Halflings complicated, but not goblins! Knuuuuuklhead like Aleeeeeeah.”

Alleah is shocked at the proposal to producing babies, let alone goblin babies! She does agree to quick kiss. Knuckle head begins with a quick peck but grabs Alleah and plants a big, sloppy smooch. His grapple is not successful, however and she wriggles away. “Knucklehead really like Aleeeeah! So much that you can share Knucklehead’s pickle!” To her relief, he produces an actual pickle from his pocket. She can see it’s adorned with lint, dirt and hair. Knucklehead takes a bite, and offers the rest to Aleah. “Special for you! It all warty like you!”

As Knucklehead prepares to lead you to Dolp’s cave, Bliss breaks into a flurry of activity! He hands out 8 scrolls, uses 5 charge from his wand, hands out a potion, attempts to read two scrolls, and casts a spell on Mookie. As he does so, he lays out his plan. This takes about 2 minutes.

[ Do you all use the items Bliss hands out? If you do not state that you use an item, then you have not used it. I rely on you to keep track of spells and items used and their durations.]

Knucklehead again attempts to lead you all forward. “You halflings keep your hoods up and your heads down. If you get told to do sumpthin by somebody bigger n you, jes do it. If you pick a fight with anyone, yer on your own. Follow me.”

He adds sweetly, “come on Aleeeeeah,” as he attempts to hold her hand.

As you leave, you see that orc looking your direction, and then he looks back at the other goblins that remain behind.

You all manage to navigate along the edge of the encampment, which takes about 7 rounds. You move past some goblins, orcs and an ogre with no incident, though they do notice the wolf with you. Before you is a cave entrance 20’ wide. There is an encampment of ogres about 50’ away, but they seem to either not have noticed you, or they don’t care.

Peering into the cave, Bliss can see what looks to be two ogre guards that seem to be sleeping. This area contains a large fire with a roasted halfling near it keeping warm, and two large pots of some sort of broth simmering near the edge. There is a closed door at the end of this cave.

Here is your map.

Not sure what the protocol here is, Alleah takes the lint covered vegetable in one hand (Knucklehead, that is) and the pickle in the other. She will stay beside Knucklehead and try to gauge from his reactions whether he believes her disguise: that she still looks like a goblin "For better or worse I guess. Oh I hope mom isn't watching me right now"

If he leads her forward, she will walk forward. He seems to know what to do at the moment.

Pressi accepts the spells of Alleah and Murphy (I'm assuming he casts his) and Bliss, feeling herself getting rather more deflecty... deflectish? She also accepts the injection of invisibility for later use, and gives Bliss the tuning fork from the treasure pile.

To Alleah, Pressi remarks a warning. "The art of seduction to get what you want may seem all fun and games now. But sooner or later you are going to have to take that poor goblin's heart and rip it asunder, watching the light fall from his eyes. And that's when the real fun and games begins."

To Shel, "This silent treatment thing you are doing? It's going to get old fast."

At the entrance of the cave, she considers transforming into a goblin or orc. The latter would be better in a fight but not as stealthy. For the moment, she stays as is as she sneaks toward the entrance of the cave (stealth roll 25, perception 27 + 1 for traps). She also prepares for cases where she may have to talk her way out.

(Double move+sneak 30, to just outside the cave mouth, look for traps and other potential threats as she enters. Dungeoneering roll 9 made on the wall of the cave.)

As Bliss launches into a flurry of preparation, Murphy decides to go along. He activates and reads those things Bliss requests of him. But he also comments. "Keep something in mind. I saw dead halflings in there. We may find some halflings alive. If so, part of our job is to tell whatever giants may be around that the cooks are trying a new marinade. 'That means some soaking sauce before cooking,' we can tell them. They want any halflings still alive to drink the sauce, eat the sauce, and soak in the sauce - alive. After a few hours of that, they can come back here for a feast. 'It'll make 'em even more tasty than halflings usually are. And we're supposed to take them to the marinade dunking pit.'"

He glances at Kezzem. "I have a few things with me suitable for marinade, so I could make a very small pit, y'know. I think you're rubbing off on my, anyway."

Returning so all hear his plan, he concludes on this topic, "So, got it? It's the halfling marinade rescue plan - if we find some alive that we can rescue. And, if we do, we work on getting them to safety."

"Another thing - when we get inside and accomplish our task, afterward, if noise has been made / perceived, we who are visible can run away as though in panic, flailing our arms, and screaming about what a horrible thing just happened, and shout for people to 'run for your lives!'" Murphy addes. "That's just a thought."

Meanwhile, he also casts a few spells, and readies a few things. A silk rope he prepares with several small loops that halfling limbs can go through if he needs to fly some people away in the form of a large avian creature, the far ends of the rope tied to his wild-shaped body, if the time comes.

He says to Sky, "Remember the fairy fire from the scarf to make the main guy pretty."

Murphy casts on himself longstrider 8 hours; freedom of movement 80 minutes

He asks Pressi whether she would like bear's endurance (8 minutes duration, +4 to Con - see link for other benefits) cast upon her before they enter. If she affirms so, he quietly casts that upon her before they reach the cave entrance.

Important caveat from Murphy
"And, yeah, we're not going to wait by the entrance, unless you're just in the other room - but will bring up the rear for a ways. Don't want you all going too far out of sight. Though, I suppose, being invisible, you'll be out of sight anyhow."

DM Mark let us know to look at and use the map. You should be able to edit the map. Type your character's two-character name abbreviation on the target square you want to move to, then delete your two-character name abbreviation where it had started out. For today's post, look at the tabs along the bottom of the map. You should see:

| Start | R1 | R2 |

Over the next few days, it will expand to:

| Start | R1 | R2 | R3 | R4 | R5 | ...

and you'll click on the tab which matches whatever the current posting round is.

For today's set of posts, choose the R2 tab by clicking on it. There you can do the editing to move your character on the map.

If, for some reason, you cannot edit the map, then, in your post, indicate the map coordinates you are moving your character to, as Alleah did.

Shel, if she's going to stay toward the back with Murphy, may be surprised by looking at tab R2 to learn he has moved up to BC17. Check whatever the current round tab (R1, R2, R3, whatever) is the latest, and see where characters are on that. DON'T rely on the Start tab - that's no longer where we are.

Kezzem - as he stealths past the slumbering ogres, should either show on the map, or indicate in the post, the square he has moved to.

One more note: These ogres sleep a lot.

[And, last but not least - anyone with DM rights I invite to delete this post later in the week.]

Bliss sees that his friends are coming in, and he notes Pressi, Kezzem, and Sky entering covertly, right past the sleeping ogres sneaking to the door to check for traps. After Pressi gives the all-clear, Bliss sneaks over (Stealth 31) 10 18-AS and listens (Perception 25). If he does not hear movement or wakeful life on the other side, he opens the door a smidge and peeks in (darkvision).

Round 3

Please read the “Mapping notes and hints” post by Kim, and the emails by Rob and Melvin. I need your help to know where you are and what magical effects are operating on you. I simply cannot keep track of all the enhancements at this point.

Kezzem attempts to stealth past the ogres (but he was so stealthy, not even the DM knows where he went.)

Murphy can see that there is still a halfling on a spit by the fire. When he saw this earlier, the body had been newly placed. However, some portions have been removed, and it now sits fully cooked to the side of the fire keeping warm. He listens, but cannot hear anything moving in the room. He does hear the slow, rhythmic breathing of a couple of large creatures.

Alleah pockets the magic pickle. She is shocked at the goblin’s baby proposal. She comments that goblins are weird. Knucklehead whispers, “Course we weird my little toady woady. But everyone weird - we just owns it! Sees you later for babies.” His smiles a goofy, toothy grin as his hand slips from hers when she moves forward. He retreats into the darkness.

Alleah can see what appears to be an alive, sleeping ogre. She looks at the halfling body on the spit, dripping with fat and it’s skin a crinkly brown. She can see no life in it. The cooking smells in her make it all the worse. She resists the urge to vomit. "Sleeping ogre" she whispers over the message spell to the party "Coup de grace him now?"

Shel lingers near the back, even as she sees the goblin retreat out of sight.

Pressi accepts Murphy's offer of bear's endurance. (I’ll let it slide this time, but in the future, please coordiante locations better for ensuring your close enough to recieve a spell.) She stealthy moves up between the prone ogres. They looks so peaceful - except for the tusks, the weapons, the scars. She does not detect any traps associated with these ogres.

Bliss moves silently over to the large wooden door. It has a simple latch. He can hear Highlight to display spoiler: {He hears voices, with orcish words here and there. He hears some clattering and some thumping or chopping. Perhaps he sound of combat or cooking or both.} (If Bliss want’s to check the door for traps, he needs to make a separate Perception roll for that. Can he even check for traps?)

Sky asks if he should drink the potion he has now. He and Meko move forward. (Where did he get a potion of invisibility? Did he already have it?)

Here is your map. Use the Round 3 tab and move your character. If you cannot, let me know what square you move to.

[OOC: Why can't Bliss look for traps? In Pathfinder, anyone can! All it takes is a Perception check. Bliss's Perception check for traps is a 32.]

Mookie chuckles silently (but Bliss senses amusement through their link). "The worst bane of all sneaky folks: a closed door!" he whispers.

Bliss meanwhile has been listening. He whispers to Alleah via Message: "Thereth orcth in there! And a ruckuth!" He is lisping because he learned in the Mailed Fist that "s" sounds carry and are easier to overhear.

He is deliberately not looking at the fire, or the cookery. He's getting angry, though.

If there is no trap, he whispers (lithping) to his friends that the party's only chance is for someone NOT alarming to to open the door so that everybody else can walk in invisibly. Maybe Charm or Suggest to an ogre that they open the door and hold it open for a minute to see what's inside. Maybe Pressi or Alleah Alters Self to Orc form and props open the door and looks in long enough for the rest of us to enter, then steps back, turns invisible and also enters.

If there is a trap, he whispers for a rogue to come disarm it.

(position same on map, has only taken free actions to talk and perceive.)

Shel holds her position (no movement in Round 3) unless she is waved ahead by the stealthy, perceptive members in the front.

A round or two back when he cast bear's endurance on Pressi, he grinned at her comment.

"Yes, coup de grâce," Murphy whispers back to Alleah. "Two of us on each, when ready, on the count of three - I'll count with my fingers - watch my fingers," he whispers as he moves with a small measure of stealth (15) over to stand opposite Alleah on ogre 1, as Pressi and Kezzem stand next to ogre 2.

He wraps both hands around his halfling sling staff, an acorn dedicated to the cause of Eberyon within the weapon's leather pouch.

He takes one hand off the sling staff to put a finger to his lips, signaling to all to act as quietly as possible.

When all are ready, Murphy signals with the fingers of his left hand, counting 1 - 2 - 3. He ensures he takes this full-round action only when all - Pressi, Kezzem, and Alleah - have acknowledged and seem to be in synch with him. Immediately after his third finger is raised, his hand returns to the sling staff, and he attacks, hurling the acorn full force at point blank range into the temple of one of the two ogres who cook halflings (which full-round action takes place, I trust, in Round 4, if the DM will allow), for 13 hp damage (3xd6 on crit - ignore 3 d8 rolls). [Note: If DM Mark will allow the sling staff to be used for a coup de grâce in this fashion - otherwise, Murphy uses it as a club on the same pressure point for 5 hp damage - and may Alleah strike hard]

Pressi seems to just stare at the ogre, as if mesmerized. Unlike Alleah, her movements seem more muted, but Murphy should understand. "Sorry, guy. Just doing what needs to be done," she finally whispers far more to herself.

On three, Pressi's arms will fire forward like an arrow. She considers the snapping sounds that will fill her ears as she snaps his head backwards, severing his neck. Her eyes stay open and locked on his face as she waits for his signal.

Round 4

Bliss and Pressi keep a sharp eye out for traps. There are none that they see.

Kezzem moves silently up to the ogres, ready to strike.

Murphy tries to use Alleah’s message spell to communicate back to her, but the others do not hear what Murphy says, though it’s probably not hard to understand what he means when he raises a weapon to strike and counts down with his fingers. He looks ready to strike, though others are not. (He cannot use a sling for a coup de grâce - melee weapon or bow only.)

Alleah moves up next to the ogre and casts True Strike.

Pressi stands over an ogre, ready to strike.

Neither Aleah’s movement nor her spellcasting are as quiet as her friends, and the Ogre by her awakens and grabs his club! Loudly in ogrish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”Mmmmph. Huh? Hey Hrapin, deys a buncha little guys here wit swords! Git up - sumbody sent us sum food!”}
(Sorry - gave it a 1 in 6 chance he’d awaken. Also, I places Alleah’s Silence spell to your best advantage that would still allow her to cast.)

The other Ogre stirrrs, grabs his club and smiles as he says in ogrish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”Wazzat? Oh, heh heh, dees ones is just fer us Krusk.”}

Both Ogres are awake, but prone. (Standard action to awaken, move action to grab their clubs.)

Bliss sighs. He sees he has a lot to teach his good friend Alleah about how casting and sneaking just do not mix.

He fires his bah into an ogre belly -- before anyone else engages -- to avoid the penalty for firing into melee. Unfortunately, the prone ogre has a +4 AC vs missiles anyway. Well, better that than a +8.

He hits AC30, likely a hit even with all possible penalties. That's 8 damage.

Bliss keeps alert in case any foes who are further inside teh cave hear the fight and approach the door from the other side: Perception check 26.

"Ok, I changed my mind," Pressi replies. "I want to do the evil thing. You win. I changed my mind."

Pressi's flurry of attacks fires before the ogre's words are even out of their mouth (readied action, see last post). She swings at ogre 2, then ogre 1, then ogre 2 again.

"Even without these attacks, they seem rather blase for the position they are in. Yeah, yeah, we're food, not threats. All I'm saying is that if I woke up to see a sword wielding roast chicken standing over me, I might not be in the calmest of moods. That's all I'm saying."

She cracked her knuckles, a flash of light eminating from her robe as her body twisted. "Since we aren't doing the sneak thing anymore...."

She continues to listen, to see if anyone is coming through the door.

Round 5

Pressi strikes with her readied action, tearing into Hrapin for 4 damage and wiping the smile off his face. (Readied actions are only a standard action or a move action, not a full round action.)
Bliss laments the loss of the element of surprise, but cheers up as he hits Hrapin as well. Kezzem works with Pressi, and hits the prone the hapless Hrapin twice for 39 damage! Pressi transforms into a orc.

Sky shoots at Krusk, hitting for a total of 23 damage, though his second attack misses. (Prone opponents gain +4 AC against ranged weapons, -4 on melee attacks.) Meko misses ogre in spite of his prone position.

Murphy strikes at the ogre, missing, and then attempts to tumble away from him. He fails, and the ogre’s club strikes Murphy for 18 damage as he moves away. Murphy can see that the door would open away from him if it were opened.

Alleah casts Lesser Confusion on the ogre.

Shel moves, positioning herself for the battle.

Both ogres rise.

Hrapin’s smile has become a grimace, and bellows in ogrish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”OWW. How can sumpin so little hurt so much? You’re gonna pay fer that!”} He provokes an AOO from Kezzem and Pressi.

Krusk just grunts. He provokes an AOO from Meko and Alleah. Alleah’s AOO surprisingly disarms the ogre, and she finds herself holding a greatclub impossibly large for her to wield. Highlight to display spoiler: {“Hey! What the heck? Gimme that back!”} He then reaches for his club as he stands, provoking an AOO from Aleah as he grabs it back from her.

Round 6

Murphy takes a short step, and Casts Call Lightning. Whisps of storm clouds seem to form near the ceiling of the cave.

Shel moves away from Krusk and releases a Magic Missle into the ogre for 12 damage.

Bliss fires again at Hrapin for 6 damage. He listens at the door, and still hears the clanking of metal on metal, a few harsh words in orcish, and a guttural yelp.

Alleah, quite proud of herself for having grabbed Krusk’s club even if only for a moment, casts Blindness/Deafness on the ogre. He shakes he head for a moment and glares at the witch. His glare is as short lived as he is.

As Hrapin stands, Kezzem takes advantage of Pressi’s distraction and gets a quick hit in for 22 damage. The ogre falls with a thump, and Kezzem moves toward Krusk, careful to not provoke an attack as he does so. Pressi, seeing the Hrapin fall, makes a quick move to Krusk and unleashes a flurry of blows. The other ogre falls dead as well.

Not one to be left out, the wolf Meko sinks his teeth into the fallen ogre’s arm - just to make sure. Sky covers the area with his bow, and looks outside the cave entrance. He can see some hill giants around a fire not far away, but they are not looking his direction. All sound from the outside is cut off.

"Good work. Without getting too complicated, quick check for items - maybe they have some keys we may want to use, or some small magic. Bliss - hear anything in particular? Press, you want to tell the orcs in the next room about the marinade plan when we get there? Just before we engage them in combat if necessary?" He casts detect magic and makes a hasty search of Krusk for any significant items he may have on his person or nearby.

ooc: thanks for not leaving us out on that last post. My friday-monday work week is very busy. I'm mostly able to post late night like 1-2am

"Nice work everyone, I would bet that Marinade plan is moot, but if you wanna try, how do we explain Meko?"

Sky and Meko both move toward the door. Bow and teeth at the ready.

"Uh, wolf urine is seasoning for the marinade?" Murphy replies to Sky.

"So, no one is going to take a quick look at the ogres' stuff except me? Kezzem? Anyone?"

Alleah -- RobC -- AC 19/13/17 -- CMD 13 -- HP 57/57

"You guys look over their stuff. I'm going to see to that halfling's dignity"

Alleah steps towards the fire, and examines what remains of the roasted halfling. She checks to see whether he (assuming it's a he) has any possessions or clothing that might indicate who he was, or where he was from. She also looks for any obvious signs of cause of death.

"Bless this one's soul, Gargul, Lord of Life and Death. May you judge his soul fairly, and let him find eternal peace"

------------------------
Free action: 5ft step to AZ22. It was mentioned earlier that the halfling was by the fire
Standard action: Look over the halflings body. Perception: 24, Heal 20 (Take10 on both)
Move action: Pick up anything she can salvage.
Free action: Say a prayer for the halfling

Ya, no BBQ sauce stands a chance against wolf urine. Gives it the forest twang you've been looking for. Hehe,

Bliss remains focussed on the here and now. "How are we going to sneak through a closed door?" he demands.

He looks to see if the door swings in, towards the heroes, or out.

"Can we make an illusion of a closed door to hide that it opens? Can one if us be disguised as an orc while the others sneak in? But unless you all are invisible, sneaking might be hard. Are we just going to fight? If so, we should heal up and haste up!"

Pressi (Melvin) - AC 21 (27), HP 58 (74), CMD 27; magic vest, barkskin, mage armor, bears endurance, orc form  d20+12=16 ;

Pressi shook her head as Murphy and Skye discussed the use of wolf urine in marinades, Bliss considers door camouflage, and Alleah blesses the barbeque. "We really have to stop doing these runs drunk."

If anyone protests they aren't drunk: "Good. Me neither."

Pressi searches the other ogre's body, but finds it harder to see in this form (Perception 16, darkvision). "We're going up against the singularly largest group of unruly morons I have ever met and trying to persuade them stuff. These guys respond to literally any phrase as "gah, stop the thinking" and if by some miracle I can even communicate with them better than I can communicate with a rock, I'm asking them to take a stab at long term planning and thinking of anyone besides themselves. Honestly, the wolf is the least of my worries compared to trailing a bunch of halflings."

Pressi calmed down, taking out the gold skull. "So maybe it's time I let this do the talking...."
