You have defeated the mysterious assailants! [Party members gain 90,000xp each]
Bosk's gaze pierces the veil of mortality. It takes only a few moments of searching the area for the Grim to find the soul of the half-orc priest. The villain is looking about, standing in bewilderment at his newly-deceased state. His gaze locks with Bosk and surprise lights his eyes. "Who are you, and how did you come by these bones?" He stares in puzzlement, furrowing his brow for several seconds before realization dawns on his face. A small smile creeps across his lips. "I am Banto, a cleric of Gargul. Well met, brother in the faith." He looks behind him, seeing something in the distance. "I suppose it is my time. A bit earlier than expected, but an Eye is always ready. I hope you come to see the true power of Gargul. In darkness and death." He motions toward the totem bag. "I was given that bag by my master. And... no, I did not kill your parents. There is a little something for you inside." He gives you a flippant wave of his hand and begins fading from view.
Looking inside the bag, you see that it does indeed contain bones. However, it is a paltry assortment -- several finger bones and some teeth. At the bottom of the bag is a small copper coin, stamped with a 'V'.
Garret sees no other threats in the immediate area. Terrified townsfolk huddle behind wagons and stalls, poking their heads to sneak a peek.
Zane drags the half-dragon minotaur to the group. He is still quite unconscious.
Restlin examines the pile of loot and separates the magical from the mundane. (see below)
Sesha opens the letter, and reads it aloud for the party. (ooc: No magic.)
Banto,
You are to join the vanguard against the Iron Dragons. De Rais is the ostensible leader, but you are my eyes and ears as always. You know of their new honors and stronghold. Destroy them. Make it public and dramatic. We must cower the dragon consortium groups into fear so that we may crush them individually.
Their heresy must be swept from the Wold. Glory to the Death Dragon!
-- Vivian Taurbane
p.s. If you have the chance, taunt that mewling calf before he dies. His name is Bosk. Ask him about Cenoios and Adatia. Bring me back his horns.
Beriothian muses as to the motivations of their attackers, but it seems the question is answered, somewhat, by the letter.
Katinka is wary of Bosk in his fit of rage. She stands and waits.

The magepriest looks around. They were still in Hook City, and there were likely many eyes on them. "Good people!" he starts. "It would appear we have yet another name to add to our list of villains who have underestimated the Iron Dragons. The immediate danger seems to have passed, though."
"We should probably get all this stuff into the tower over there. We obviously have some work to do..." Restlin starts gathering up all the stuff they've collected & carrying what he can into the tower.

As the group collects the remaining items and heads back Bosk recalls the events of his past and decides it is time to share them with his friends, his new family. Quitely he turns around and returns with Tink to the tower.
When everyone is inside and a meal prepared Bosk stands up and tells them of the bones he found and whet he knew of his mother's killer. I grew up on Minotaur Isle, the son of Cenoios and Adatia. I was very close to my family. My father was was known across the island for his talents at wine making, and it had always been my dream to follow in his foot steps and take over the vineyard when I reached adult hood.
One night I was awakened by the panicked screams of my mother. When I arrived outside my parents room I could already smell the blood, but neither my father nor the murder were to be found. My father claimed to have been out tending the vines when the tragic event occurred, however the community did not believe him. That week he was put to death by the community for my mother's murder. Having not yet reached adulthood yet, nor having been trained enough to take over his father's work, I was adopted by the community. I lived in my family's house from this point, and was looked after and brought food by neighbors.
A few weeks after my father's death both my father's and my mother's spirits were seen throughout the community, and the town believed it to be a bad omen...my father forever seeking out my mother. It was not until some months later that a wandering halfling grim came upon our town and spoke to the spirits and laid them to rest. My mother's spirit would not leave because she was weighed down with the guilt of my father's death for her murder. My father, a proud man, was outraged by the injustice of his death and could not cross over until our family name was cleared.
By talking to my mother's ghost he learned that she was killed by a Lich for refusing to reveal the location of my family's hidden cellars containing the sacred blue wine of Imod. The halfling was able to not only clear my father's name, but was also able to help their souls to cross over. These were things that no man in my village had been able to do. Although I was glad that his family’s name was clear I was resentful of the fact that a small halfling was able to achieve that which none of my strong clan could do.
Since that time I have had mixed feelings towards the small ones. They do not have our strength or philosophy of Might Makes Right, but I can admires their determination and bravery and never underestimates them. It was this experience that caused me to dedicate my life to Gargul and become a Grim so that I too might help those poor souls crossover and avenge their injustices.
It was then that I began my journey to find the Lich responsible for my parents' deaths. To help accomplish this goal I turned to Jancassis and work as her Avenger in those joint missions with Gargul to help the spirits of those trapped on the Physical Plane cross over by getting their much longed for revenge.
Unfortunately I exhausted all leads to my parent's killers...until today...

Bosk AC: Hasted (34/17/29) CMD: 34 hp 86/132 Spells Tuesday December 6th, 2016 8:17:30 PM
Bosk goes to the magic depiction of the tower that allows the group to make a few last change to the tower and creates a "safe zone" to allow the group to "talk" with their captive without interruption. A large area with lead walls, anti-scrying spells, etc. The cleric also adds in restraint features.
First you make any magical preparations you guys can while I pray. I am not sure if this guy can use magic, so besides binding his hands to keep him from using them to cast spells I would like anyone who can cast dimensional anchor or another an equivalent spell to do so. An anti magic spell would be useful as well.
I want everyone possible there. Who knows what clues each of us might pick up on. I will use my Question Spirit abilty to ensure he is telling he truth while Tink uses her Truth Test ability. Hopefully that will be enough to discern the truth, but lowering his ability to buff and make will saves and boosting my intimidation factor and Tink's sense motive will help.
As the group makes their preparations the captive wakes up (from the email I assume he wakes up after our preparation) and Bosk ends his prayer. Gargul, please guide and protect me as I carry out your will. This lich is an abomination to all we stand for and now he has made it personal. Grant me your blessing that we may put an end to his unlife and disregard for the balance of life and death, and that I might finally get closure... She sighs loudly and crosses her arms.
"Very well. I'm going to leave and find the Inspector. He will know what to do. He may be hard to find though. I might be a while"
Tink's departure would serve a few purposes. Firstly, she would be able to deny all knowledge of anything that happens to the captive after she has left the room. Bosk grins. You realize you just sent the Justicar out of the room and left yourself with a Grim Avenger? I am a DRAGON, a night at large in the realm. (To the best of my knowledge) We are given the authority to dispense justice. Most of your friends are dead. My sword and I do not care about the legal system in this matter. I will not use anything you say against you in the court of law...but it may save your life. Just tell me where can find Vivian Taurbane and De Rais. You know they want us to find them. They left a message with the cleric, just in case you failed....speaking of which, I am fairly certain thy will not be happy with your failure. They do not strike me as the forgiving type. Tell us where they are and why they are after us and I will not hurt you, nor will I tell the authorities what you said that it may be used against you. I might even be able to get you protection from your boss, should you need it.

Beri moves away from the door and lets the Justicar pass, then proceeds to block the exit again. I believe from our previous runins at the dock the the laws of Hook City quite clearly allow for the local defenders, which we are officially recognized, to perform whatever tasks are deemed necessary until the official Hook City Guard arrives. Considering the threat has been neutralized and the Hook City Guard know we are honorable, I see no reason to expect them to hurry. As long as nobody performs an action that would generally be considered evil I don't expect there to be any problem as the result of out interrogation... other than filling out an official report, having it signed in triplicate, sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. Hook City may be a bureaucratic nightmare, but the laws are very clearly in our favor.
I am not aware of any changes to these laws in recent days, are you?

Katinka feels the heavy burden of duty, driving her to seek out the Inspector for the authority to interrogate the captive.

The half-dragon minotaur becomes very nervous under the verbal onslaught of Bosk. He watches Tink leave the room, and realizes that Good-Cop-Bad-Cop has suddenly become Just-Bad-Cop.
"NO! BY THE LAWS OF HOOK CITY, I DEMAND THAT YOU RELINQUISH MY CUSTODY TO THE PROPER LAWFUL AUTHORITIES. THE DRAGON CONSORTIUM MUST RECOGNIZE MY RIGHT TO TRIAL AND LEGAL COUNSEL."

=====
The half-dragon minotaur continues to stare at the wall, finding it easier to maintain his calm when he does not look Bosk in the eye.
The party is able to arrive at several conclusions through deductive reasoning (and some beautiful Perception and Spellcraft checks):
(1) the captive is exhibiting behavior that is unnatural;
(2) no magical auras are detected;
(3) there are spells that can hide the magical auras of objects;
(4) your opponent is a high-level spellcaster, who may have figured out how to hide magical auras on creatures;
(5) the effect currently on the captive is voluntary.
If someone were to attempt to use dispel magic, we would need a caster level check.

Beriothian suggests a small addendum, noting that the captive should divulge all of his information before he is given over to the custody of Hook City.
Tink offers an alternate deal to the captive.
=====
The captive narrows his eyes for a moment in assessment. "Very well."
He breathes deeply through his nose, relaxes, and looks up to the ceiling. "In the Year of Ascension-", his voice becomes confident again. It takes on a practiced rhythm, as though reciting something he has heard many times before. "Lord Gargul became the only god to inhabit both pantheons. Such was his power, that even aspects of his godhood - mere fragments of his greater self - were mightier than other gods. Most of the Wold, content to be helpless sheep, worshiped the aspect of Gargul that promised safety. They are shepherded through their small lives and have small deaths. It has been forgotten by too many that Lord Gargul has another aspect. An aspect of power, dominion, and glory. This aspect created the chromatic dragons. This aspect created Marteaus, scourge of the noble races. This aspect rules the souls of the strong and the ambitious."
He smiles. "Now is the time for the ascendance of this aspect. Those who serve shall find glory. Those who sacrifice will be repaid a hundredfold. Those who serve this aspect, the Death Dragon, shall power in the Lands of Rest. They will sit by his side in rulership. The Death Dragon Cult." He looks at Tink. "This defeat is but a footnote to my service to the Death Dragon. Lord Gargul has a place prepared for me, and I have heard his voice."
He looks back to the ceiling and sighs. "I served in a cell of operatives, led by the wizard De Rais. He was mostly competent, but given to hubris. He did not receive the Gift. He was not blessed by the Death Dragon -- for you see, I used to be a normal minotaur. I received the Gift, and it changed me into his image. To protect the cult, our only point of contact was the lich, Vivian Taurbane. She taught me the doctrine of the Death Dragon."
He looks again at Tink. "By my honor, I do not know the location of Vivian Taurbane. She teleported to our cell for briefings, and our supplies and equipment were provided by anonymous dead-drop. You cannot find them through me. They are ruthless, motivated, and powerful. We are but one cell of many. The fact that I tell you these things means nothing, because you will all die."
He motions with his head toward Bosk. "I had nothing to do with this one's parents."
ooc: By the power of all supernatural and mundane abilities you possess, you believe he is telling the truth.
Liches and Half-Dragons. Just perfect. Still, she had a couple of questions.
"Well, that's interesting. Very interesting.", her reply is earnest. Of all in the room, she probably could appreciate the situation from a fairly neutral standpoint.
She casts a message spell, and focuses on the Taur. Perception DC 25 to overhear.
"Hey. Hot Blood Witch here, in case you weren't sure who was talking to you. I doubt Bosk, the Angsty Minotaur or anyone else but us can hear this. The spell is targeting you specifically, but it's technically possible. I have something I want to ask you and I don't want the others to overhear. Telepathic communication incoming."
She rests an easy hand on her flesh-golems shoulder. The gentle touch of non-offensive magic will brush against the captive. She will attempt to cast Telepathic Bond on the Minotaur. The spell requires the target be willing. If he resists her, she will continue via message spell instead.
"What happens to the more well-known aspect of Gargul. Anything? The fact YOUR Gargul is willing to deal with a liche is encouraging. The one Mr. Minotaur is constantly prattling on about hates usage of Woldsblood and Undead, something that I find a little stlifling." She runs a finger through Alice's stringy blonde hair to make her point.
"So forgive the mental intrusion. Your blessing, was it bestowed by an individual? Or were you rewarded by divine recognition? The nature of a blood witch asks we seek out a bond to fulfill our powers. Your situation interests me for several reasons. Another spell incoming. This one is also harmless. It makes sure that you and I, we understand each other with no room for misunderstandings."
She's silent a moment, then casts another pair of spells, Surrender Blood (sla), and Like Calls to Like, on herself, and touches the Minotaur. Will Save, DC 20 Will.
"When you say you are going to bring the ascendance of this aspect. Do you mean as a result of the efforts of your actions bringing it prominence or do you literally mean you are taking a weak thing and giving it a method to become strong. Because that latter one there would interest the heck out of me. Is it possibly related to that coin?
Sesha grins.
"And lastly, what's your health plan like? If I wanted to make myself known to your boss, or cell, how? Who would I meet and where, in a situation that doesn't require on-sight killing? I hear some dragons have been known to change their scales. While Iron is nice, I hear Death is a lovely color this time of year."
Bluff, 51
Specifically I guess to convince the Minotaur she is earnestly trying to join his faction, and this is why she needs a way to move up the chain or contact the next man up.

I received my gift from Banto, the half-orc you killed. He was a cleric of the Death Dragon aspect of Gargul. I drank a potion and received a blessing from him, which changed my body.
Our goal is to destroy the current hierarchy of the church of Gargul, and gain followers by demonstrating our power. What greater display of power than destroying the Dragon Consortium. The Death Dragon requires worshipers and faith for the same reasons as other gods -- to accomplish their will in the Wold.
If you wish to join the Death Dragon Cult, you are more than welcome. All must come into the fold, either willingly or by conquest. To join, you must be vouched. I can provide a voucher... but you would need to be taught and demonstrate your faith. I cannot teach you while in custody."}
He looks to Tink, "I am Dabroc, son of Valoc and Shoon, of Escalapius on Minotaur Island."
He listens to each party member in turn. "Your mockery does not sway my faith. You saw today all the proof you need -- a holy Eye of Gargul, sworn to the Death Dragon, drew upon divine power. Bosk shakes his head. There is some truth in what he says about Gargul's past. Because of people's fear of death and associating it with evil a strange theme appeared with Gargul, not Life vs. Death or Good vs. Evil, but Evil vs. Life. Gargul explained that evil and death were not the same thing. That to combine such extremes was not good for the Noble Races. The Noble Races were believing in a lie because he was not evil, just the personification thereof!
Gargul's frustration grew as the two parts of himself, evil and death, polarized within him. One day he acted to free himself and the Wold from the lies that gripped him and them. He turned to the twin punishers: Marteaus and Kevintar. And he imbued them with power. The powers of each extreme within his own self. Marteaus was remade to be evil incarnate. Kevintar would have power over life and death.
A split was created between his followers. One group saw the truth of the change in their God and became known as the Dead Faction. The Other remained convinced that Death was Evil and so was Gargul. They named themselves the Evil Faction.
In truth, the occult that worships his old personage never died out. I suppose they feel some day Gargul will embrace his other aspect. Among the gods he is the most changing, and one of the most powerful. He can banish any other god from his presence, except for Alemi and Marteaus. The later was imbues with his own power, and even Alemi will not cross Gargul's wishes when it comes to extending a perosn's life.
Still, my many interactions with Gargul lead me to believe it much more likely that the occult is being manipulated by Vivian.

"We probably would have died. Or fled. The first moments of that attack were dangerous."
She contacts him telepathically again.
"Freeing you will be difficult. There's so much magic potential among the Iron Dragons, even if I unbound you or set you free, they would just scry us in no time. If I needed help doing it, and immediate access to allies and a new base of operations to whether out their repercussions, where would I go and who would I seek out? It would be easier to get the help first, and use your men to help me free you. How many of you are there? Talking about smashing the consortium and it's dragons, literal and figurative ones alike, would require a lot of personnel at your strength or greater."

After perhaps an hour, Inspector Auslander arrives with a detachment of city guardsmen. News travels quickly.
He strokes his mustache as he enters the interrogation cell. "Well now, well now, well now -- what do we have here? Men, prepare that prisoner for transport." Four of the men leap at the order. They re-tie the bindings on his hands, loop a rope to bindings on his feet to allow a shuffling gait, and cover his mouth with a leather muzzle. Two guardsmen stand nearby, tapping their open palms with heavy truncheons in silent threat. Dabroc accepts the bindings without resistance. "We will transport and secure this prisoner for processing and detainment. If one of the Dragon Consortium could come down and give an accounting as soon as possible, it would be appreciated. There is no small amount of collateral damage to buildings and property, and we need to have a proper record of this incident."
In no time the prisoner is trussed and led out the door. "If you need anything else, don't be strangers."

Sesha considers the news.

The Main Group - Most of the Iron Dragons agree that: (a) the other Dragon Consortium groups have not been attacked, have never heard of the Death Dragon Cult, they do not seem overly concerned, and it appears that they trust the newest DC group to take care of the problem until it is proven to be a bigger problem; (b) the Eyes of Gargul would be a good place to seek information.

The sphere glows with blue-white light, then begins floating toward the stacks. "Just follow it, hon'. Good luck." She gives you a sly wink.
The sphere leads you on a serpentine pattern through deep canyons of bookshelves and multiple chambers and richly-appointed rooms until coming to an out-of-the-way study. Hook City Library - Restlin has a flash of brilliance. He finds a tome entitled, Undead of the Elennian Peninsula, Their Ecology and Habits. It is written by an anonymous priest of Gargul and details various powerful undead, including liches. He is able to piece together various reports to determine that a powerful lich, notably a divine spellcaster, has been encounter several times in the hinterlands surrounding Plateau City. The name of the lich has not been determined, but the tactics and appearance of the lich are consistent across various accounts by survivors. The fact that Vivian Taurbane is not listed anywhere in the book would suggest the mysterious lich may be her.

"Awww yiss," Restlin says quietly to himself as he thumbs through the book. He's eager to get back home with the info...
***
Knowledge, Local: 26 - Restlin's a wizard who's lived here all his life. Surely he knows how to go about checking out a book, or getting a copy of pertinent information. How can he walk out the door with this info legally?
Also, is there a benefit to finding this, or just a "nice job, Restlin, you found a book!"?

Sesha [AC 31 /21 To/29 Fl] | HP 100/125 | CMD 22] d20+2=15 ; Thursday January 5th, 2017 2:35:23 PM
(If Sesha has time for the full casting time-skip, training, etc, let me know and I'm going to move on to plot based posts.)
When the Simulacrum is complete, Sesha takes a moment to check it out. It looked... sort of like her. (Disguise check - 20) She stares at the Seshamulacrum for a minute then grins.
"I get that your an illusion, but I want you to enjoy yourself in general. While strictly speaking you don't need anything, I suppose I should take you shopping for some things. Especially clothes. You look enough like me it might be distracting to the others if you walk around naked. Especially Restlin, I would think. You also need a name."
She thinks.
"Sissy, seems easy enough. Your life will be pretty simple, Sissy. You'll have a couple of basic chores, and a few other things as we go along. The most important among those is keeping that little lump of us preserved, as it grows into a clone. It's made of the same stuff you are, bits of me. It's sort of like your own little sister I guess."
She ponders that weird line of thinking for just a moment. In time, there would basically be three of her floating around. Bosk might literally lose his mind in a bad way. Restlin might literally lose his to lewdness and fantasy. Blushing, she purges the thought with vengeance and fire.
"The hardest toll I'm going to take on you is a trade. I have, in my view of things, given you life of sorts. This has cost me in time and resources. In exchange, I will borrow against your life from time to time. Sadly, things are rushed right now, and I need to get started before I can introduce you to the others. Are you ready to get started?"
The simulacrum frowns, making a petulant expression quite like Sesha's, then sighs. "Ready as I can be, Master." ----------
Making the assumption that because of the 12 hour cast of Simulacrum, 2 hours of spirit brew, and 2 hours of Sacrifice Selfs, Sesha is out of the gameplay loop for a bit unless the Iron Adventurers wait for her.

She looks sideways conspiratorially, then leans in and whispers. "Tell you what, darlin'. You're one of the Iron Dragons, right? Usually there is a rigorous vetting process to be allowed a library card. Some of these books are worth more than a house. But since it's you... I just need a lock of your hair. Check-out is for two weeks."
If Restlin consents, the secretary tucks the lock of hair into an envelope and slides him the book. "See you in two weeks."

While the others continue to make preparations, Garret strolls around outside the castle. He likes that it still takes up the same amount of space outside, so it doesn't look like a giant place. He thinks back to the times he had far, far away with the small Inn his group was part of. He remembers the status made of the group and a certain female halfling that he knew a long time ago in a city far away.

Restlin is immediately certain Sesha would literally smack him upside the head if he gave away scry bait to a stranger, but this book was valuable.
It's a conundrum, that's for sure. Maybe he got a library card sometime in the past & it's sitting in the bottom of one of his pouches? He checks, just to make sure...
Mendicant ability, Lucky Find:
The DM secretly rolls a d12, unmodified by luck points. On a 1, nothing is found. On a 2-5, something non-magical and not obviously useful is found. On a 6-9, something non-magical and useful is found. On a 10 or 11, something magical but not obviously useful is found. On a 12, something useful and magical is found. The DM chooses what is found, and may be inspired by the table on page 113 of the 3.0 DMG, or on page 66 of the 3.5 DMG. This ability can be used only once per encounter.
If nothing is found, he'll head back to the reading desks, request pen and paper, and start taking notes. Sesha had big plans today, so he figures he has some time.
He does not give this librarian a lock of his hair. That would be stupid.

He fills out whatever paperwork needs filling out, then takes his leave, playing a tune (poorly) on his newly reclaimed kazoo as he goes.

They both look up when Restlin walks in, then bring their heads together in a conspiratorial whisper.

Hook City Library - A library card to one of the most prestigious and extensive libraries in the Wold requires a deposit of 1,000gp. Books may be rented for two weeks, with a late fee of 1gp per day past the due date. Books overdue by more than 90 days will result in the forfeit of the security deposit. Sages and experts from across the entire continent would give their right arm to have regular access to such a trove of knowledge, and rumor has it that just about anything can be found in its halls and stacks.
The transcripts obtained by Restlin reveal several important facts: (a) there is a documented history of a lich with consistent appearance and tactics; (b) it is operating in the hinterlands surrounding Plateau City; and (c) it is a divine spellcaster. You can confidently surmise that Vivian Taurbane is somewhere near Plateau City, and is a cleric.

Bosk scratches his head as he tries to determine how the lich could be divine. I have never understood how an evil cleric can get powers from an inherently good god, but I believe druids just have to worship nature. However, I have a theory. I do not think Marteaus would have the same qualms about supporting Vivian and her followers. Marteaus was imbued with Gargul's powers by Gargul himself and is one of only two gods Gargul cannot banish from his presence. I wonder if they are worshiping Gargul through the Punisher?
From what I can recall Marteaus is the ruler of the Gods of Testing. He strives to bring suffering through disease upon the Noble Races of Wold. It is only through true suffering that he believes one discovers his true need and the way to fulfill that need. Disease breaks the strong and culls the weak so that the strong survives to rise up to accomplish their need. Those who have suffered are the only ones who are capable of truly ruling the races, being focused through the weakness of disease and want.
His need is now an obsession. Marteaus is obsessed with what he believes is the need to provide the Races of the Wold with the answer to the Gods of Wold and the weakness and indecision that they represent. He thinks only the Gods of Testing can show the true way to power and success within the Wold and that the Gods of Testing are the answer to the needs of the races of Wold.

Sesha introduces her Mini-Me to the party, provides a sumptuous meal, and gives it instructions to avoid the amorous advances of her cohort.
Beriothian inquires as to Restlin's findings.
Tink hires a courier to ask the Inspector a question.
=====
Restlin pores over the book he checked out from the Hook City Library, trying to find out how the current situation meshes with Gargul's history. Despite several hours of study, he finds nothing. There is a clear contradiction between the the divine portfolio of Gargul and the new information they have learned concerning the Death Dragon Cult and the presence of an undead spellcaster in his clergy. However, the spellcasting abilities of the half-orc cleric cannot be denied. This looks like a question for the Eyes to answer, preferably by asking the Big Man Himself.
Bosk theorizes as to how the Death Dragon Cult may in fact be worshiping Marteaus, masquerading as Gargul or perhaps being used as a conduit. Unfortunately, he arrives at the same conclusion as Restlign -- the evidence is contradictory, and clarification from a higher source is needed.
The party arrives at the teleportation circle to wait their turn in line. The courier catches up to Tink and informs her that the Inspector has the situation well in hand.

Zane looks around and thinks he's ready.....
Thinking back a few days, Zane had headed over to the local WLA building, he met up with one of the officers and paid up some of his dues. After paying up, he went to the training center of the Lodge. With his reflexes it didn't take long at all for him to pick up the nuances of the new skill. The next day, he visited the Inspector to take him up on the offer of a couple names for people to work at the Castle. The inspector set up a couple interviews, the first was with a Sargent who had been injured and had to retire. While the man was very qualified, he was just too much military. Zane had spent time on board ship, and while he'd never served on a warship, the Sargent made him imagine what it'd be like. He said thanks but no thanks to him and went to see the other prospect. The second meeting was about to start when a half-elf came bursting into the room, It took a few seconds for her to notice that the room wasn't empty as she was more interested in paying attention to what was going on in the hallway. When she noticed Zane, she came to attention, "Sorry Sir, just trying to avoid a situation that has the possibility of ... well, Sorry for intruding, I'll just make my exit and leave you to whatever you are up to." She whistles a couple of notes and vanishes from normal sight. With Zane having blindsense, he followed her movements as the door opened and she quietly disappeared down the hallway. The second meeting went well, but Zane kept thinking about the Half-elf and after the meeting was over he went to find the Inspector. After finding him and describing the Half-elf, the Inspector said, "Ella? You really want to have an interview with Ella? She's not great at following orders, in fact she's been on report so many times the only reason she's still employed is because she get's done what she needs to get done. Maybe it's not such a bad idea, she might actually do very well working for you." It took a couple of days for the Inspector to set up the interview. Zane once again was sitting in the room when Ella walked in. This time she looked completely different. Different hair, different skin color and very different clothing. Zane only recognized her because of the way she moved. After a few basic questions, "Well, see I've been doing undercover missions for the inspector. I just returned from one a few minutes before the scheduled appointment. I can't go into the details of course. So, just what does this JOB you are looking to fill entail?" Zane leans back in the chair, and looks over the girl, no young woman. Then he laughs at his thought.... She gives him a dirty look as he laughs...."Sorry Ella, I just was thinking and in my mind I was referring to you as a girl in mind and I expect that you are quit a bit older than I am, considering that you are part elvish. As to the job, well, I'm looking for someone to basically be in charge of the Castle while we Iron Dragons are away on missions and most likely even when we are in residence as well. Along with that duty they'll also double as our Majordomo. Taking care of guests and running the rest of the staff, as well as probably hiring most of the rest of the staff. Our group, not to be overly judgmental, because I trust them with my life and they trust me with theirs, well, they are a bit scatter brained. With individuals like us, that's only to be expected. So, what do you think?' Ella says she'll need a day or two to decide. A couple days later Ella comes to the castle with the Inspector. They meet up with Zane, "I've been released from duty, with no hard feelings either way, and I'd like to accept the position you described to me the other day." The Inspector verifies that what she said was true and bids her good luck as he leaves.
Coming back to the present, having Eleanor Sims, or "Ella" as she prefers to be called might take some getting used to, but one thing it won't be is boring....
"We may as well get going, delaying things will only give this Lich more time to prepare for us."

He then finishes up his shopping at the Catacombs and brings his gear over to Mara the Weaver to sharpen, clean and polish his steelgrass, and ensure they are all in good condition.

Not all of you were around for this, but some time ago we found a phylactery, a magic item that contained the soul of an undead wizard...it actually took control of Beri for a while. The lich likely has something like this preserving its unlife. The previous one Gargul had me destroy with his staff in the Shadow Lands. We might not be able to destroy it that way again.

Restlin manages to catch sight of a knot of city guardsmen. They stand unmolested by the crowd, which flows around them like water around a boulder. The three of them carry halberds with the butt resting on the cobbled ground, and hob-nailed cudgels on their belts. One of them has a purple ascot around his neck that the others lack. Restlin flags him down, introduces themselves as the Iron Dragons and shows their Dragon Consortium pins, earning very rapid cooperation.
"Wel-welcome to Plateau City!" The man salutes nervously. "I am Sergeant Lazarecki. We, we did not know you would be here today. What in the world are you... never mind. Probably above my pay grade."
You inquire as to your current location.
"Oh, you must have hopped in. All hoppers -- that's anyone coming in by teleportation whether native or extraplanar -- get routed to the Merchant's Quarter. It's where most of them want to visit anyway, and it keeps anyone from hopping into a sensitive area. Let me give you the lay of the land."
He points with an open palm in various directions.
"This quarter is the City’s second market place.
The Royal Library is in this quarter. There are underground connections between the Royal Library to the Black Genie Center, The University of Magic, Star Tower, as well as to various temples within the city. To use the Library, simply enter and speak to a librarian. Researchers as well as Scribes and Guides are available for a price.
The Royal Courthouse is here as well. Civil dispensing of justice occurs daily and is mostly open to the public for viewing and entertainment.
The High Lord Mayor’s Castle is in the northern portion of the quarter. This is where the bureaucracy of the Kingdom of New Elenna is centered as well as the High Lord Mayor’s apartment. The High Council meets and has its chambers here as well.
The University of Magic is southeast of Merchant Square and is a place where youngsters who seeks to be mages and Sorcerers come to be trained and taught."
You explain your destination.
"I... not to be rude, but I think you should report to, er, visit the High Lord Mayor's Castle. He would be able to properly welcome you. I will send a guardsman ahead to announce your coming."
Sergeant Lazarecki snaps his fingers, and both of his troopers spin on their heels and double-time it northward.

Garret is bombarded by a cacophony of noise and a maelstrom of sights. He sees that anything can be found, short of evil, illegal, or unsavory items. Even then, there is likely a backroom somewhere...
Zane covers his face, which is likely a wise move given his unusual appearance.
Restlin is puzzled by the sudden announcement by Sesha, but resolves to keep moving forward.
Sesha suggests making some potions while the party investigates. She finds the nearest inn to be a sprawling establishment, fully three stories in height and filled with the hustle and bustle of guests, cooks, and servants. It appears to cater to the merchant crowd, and it noticeably lacking any rowdiness. All she hears is the hovering murmur of a dozen conversations in private booths. The Ffloy's Favor looks like the best she would likely find.
Beriothian senses nothing untoward in the sergeant's manner. After all, surprising a town guardsman is a trifle, but surprising the High Lord Mayor could result in very unpleasant consequences for said town guardsman.
Tink comforts the sergeant and encourages him to relax.
=====
Tink recalls that the leader of Plateau City is High Lord Mayor Sturtevant. He is a wise, rational, kind ruler who has led the city for several decades. Some whisper that he must have elven blood in his veins, because he has not aged a day since he took office. He is a great supporter of heroic adventurers -- often commissioning and rewarding them for their deeds -- and is one of the staunchest allies of the Dragon Consortium.
"If you don't mind, sirs and madams, we can proceed to the High Lord Mayor's office now. Right now." He gives a slight hop and a bow. "Begging your pardon, but if word gets out that members of the Dragon Consortium visited Plateau City without a reception, heads would be rolling. You are the equivalents of foreign ambassadors." He looks with some distress as Sesha peels off for the nearest inn. "Uhhh... is there any way to bring her back? Sturtavent is a kind and patient man, but he is also a stickler for protocol. Dignitaries are to be escorted for reception immediately upon arrival."
By this point, he is openly wringing his hands.
After a few moments, you hear a commotion as the crowd parts to allow a dozen guardsmen into view. They all carry halberds, and quickly form two parallel lines on either side of the party. "Oh, thank the gods!" Sergeant Lazarecki puts a hand to his chest. "Your honor guard is here. Please, allow us to escort you to the castle." The guardsmen stand ready to force the rabble from out of your path. =========

She sighs again and gets ready to head out.
"Though I'd prefer to be our cool beauty, I suppose creepy spellcaster is as viable a role for me as any. Maybe I can pass my eye around on a stick between Tink and Bosk while munching on some crickets in front of the Lord Mayor to perpetuate any other notions about witches he might have."

I personally sacrifice about 10% of my life force to him (1hp per lvl), and my third eye used to belong to a young girl named Heather Brodry. =====
A handful of people stop and stare at Zane -- partly for his looks, and partly from his announcement. One portly fellow with an oiled beard raises an eyebrow. "Who are you, Queen Titania?" His nearby buddy smirks. No one seems to be moving.
Sergeant Lazarecki steps up beside Zane and takes a deep breath. He lets it out in a bellow that few besides soldiers can muster. "BY THE ORDER OF THE HIGH LORD MAYOR, MAKE WAY FOR THE IRON DRAGONS OF THE DRAGON CONSORTIUM!"
The blood drains from the portly man's face, as he and everyone in front of you scurry like sheep in a lightning storm. You can literally see the news spreading. The roar of the market becomes subdued in concentric circles as the jabber of news passes from mouth to ear.
"Burn me! Did you say the Iron Dragons!?"
The masses burst into cheering and gawking and shouting and pleas as the the crowd becomes a mob in a heartbeat. The guardsmen raise their halberds quickly, holding them sideways and forming a protective ring around the party with their shafts. You hear a cacophony of voices, with some praising you, some asking for boons or trinkets, some pleading for money, and some promising you exciting business opportunities for brave entrepreneurs. The sergeant puts a light hand on Zane's shoulder. "Please, sir. We can handle the crowd. As long as no one makes trouble, neither will we."
You are guided down several streets in the Merchant Quarter. The news has continued to spread, and citizenry and travelers of every stature and stripe throng the streets to catch a glimpse. The guardsmen do an admirable job of keeping everyone in line, and the threat of being cracked in the head keeps the masses from doing anything untoward.
It does not take long to reach the High Lord Mayor's home, an ornate two-story building with a brilliant white marble edifice and gold furnishings. It is the size of a large manor house. A broad avenue of steps leads up to the entrance. At the base of the steps is a veritable circus gathered to meet you. At least two dozen well-dressed nobles, administrators, and courtiers are gathered in two lines (obviously positioned according to their wealth and status) behind a coterie of officials dressed in golden livery. Literally golden livery, finely spun into cassocks with a white tabard and golden sunburst heraldry. Not one but two groups of musicians are playing fanfare for your arrival, standing on the flanks of the welcoming party and playing counter-notes. Of course, surrounding the welcome party is a large detachment of guardsmen in parade dress, with white tabard, red trim, and the sunburst sigil. There are perhaps sixty of them in gleaming plate armor. Several nubile girls dance across your path, strewing rose petals on the cobble stones.
The honor guard stops a dozen paces in front of the welcome party, and the masses behind you take the initiative to surround the plaza. The guardsmen form a protective barrier, and more than one small street urchin is quickly chased down after ducking under the menacing halberds.
The musicians reach a crescendo and stop. The crowd is hushed. A man steps forward, his robes the most gilt of all. He is an aged man, stooped with wisdom. His voice is gravelly, deep, and deliberate. "Welcome, Iron Dragons. Welcome to Plateau City! In the name of the High Lord Mayor, Sturtavent, I welcome you. My name is Chancellor Modjeska." He bows from the waist, prompting the gathered nobles and officials to bow as well in greeting. "You have honored us with your presence. The High Lord Mayor desires you to present yourselves at his court, that he may greet you himself. Chambers have been prepared, and servants will see to your every need. Do you have any requests, my lords?"

Restlin can't help it. Dude just laughs when that bloke talks back to Zane. "Oh brother," he says out loud. "You folks need to learn how to handle celebrity," he says to his friends.
He walks over to the guy, puts one hand on his shoulder & shakes his hand with the other one. "Restlin the Magepriest, pleased to meet you. Thanks for the best laugh I've had in a while." He smiles & moves on, continuing to smile and wave at the on-lookers. He'd be darned if the Iron Dragons were going to be known as a bunch of stuffy stuffertons.
"I think the Lord Mayor should know what we're doing here. No need to publicly announce that we're looking for a powerful lich looking to take down the Dragon Consortium, but we should probably fill this Strutavent guy."
He scratches his head a bit when asked if he had any requests. He's curious to see that Star Mage's guild, but not enough to put up with the Star Mages. Those guys were the worst. "I'd like to see the local temple of Wardd, but honestly we've got business to attend to first." The word drips off his tongue.

Tink smiles and waves to the crowd as she passes peacefully through. She looks for familiar faces in the crowd, but seeing none, follows the sergeant.
She bows in kind to the Chancellor "It is a pleasure to meet you Chancellor. The friendliness and hospitality of your people knows no limits" Tink gives a wave to the crowd before turning back to the Chancellor.
"There are many things we would like to see and experience while in your wonderful city. However, we do not wish to appear ungrateful to the High Lord Mayor. At what time would he like us to present ourselves? We are but guests in your magnificent city"

As the group heads through the crowds, Garret runs along the edge, trying to high-five anyone he can reach down low. He smiles and waves to any children he can spot as well. He doesn’t really notice when Restlin cleans him up.
When they arrive at the house, he looks around, slightly slack-jawed, at the massive ceremony and people. He looks from one band to the other, smiling. When the dragons are asked if they need anything, he opens his belt pouch and looks down. Seeing it is empty, he quickly calls out, “Hey, do you have any good tasting meat around here? Maybe on a stick?” When Tink speaks so formally, he backs up and whispers, “Was I allowed to ask for meat?”

Your hospitality is most gracious, and your city very beautiful.

When Tink asks about times of meetings, Sesha is slightly encouraged. She has no desire to be anywhere in a hurry. And there's something she needs everyone help with.
"Unless we are just immediately whisked away after this, I'll need everyone in my room after this. There's something I'll need us to do that I've been putting off."

I think I'll be buying a new hat, something that might make me not so noticeable. Having bronze colored horns and hooves as well as a mane, sort of make me stick out like a sore thumb." He waits to see what happens next now that the group is in front of the Mayor's house.

Bosk requests to visit the Red Wyrm Inn and its infamous Maw, as well as sampling the vintages available in the city.
Garret asks for some meat. Possibly on a stick.
Zane stays quiet, but makes a mental reminder to procure some camouflage of the sartorial sort.
Restlin requests to see the temple of Wardd, after finishing their pressing business, first.
Sesha requests telepathically that the party join her for a moment when their chambers have been appointed.
Beriothian suggests telepathically to attend to their business quickly to avoid giving their enemies a chance to prepare.
Tink is very diplomatic, and inquires as to when the High Lord Mayor would like to see them.
=====
Chancellor Modjeska bows deeply. "Of course, noble lords. We would be happy to fulfill any reasonably request. We can provide an escort to any part of the city you wish, and fare of your choosing will be procured for this evening's feast. A feast, I might note, the High Lord Mayor has declared to be held in your honor. The High Lord Mayor would like to meet you prior to appetizers in his private chambers. Until then,"
He places a hand behind his back and snaps his fingers. A man rises from his kneeling position and quickly moves to stand to the right and slightly behind the Chancellor. He is tall, broad-shouldered, with dark hair and a goatee. He stands rigidly at attention. His tabard bears a badge of woven knot-work the other servants lack.
"Our Head Butler, Cailean, will see you to your chambers and attend to your needs."
The Chancellor walks slowly around and behind the group to address the masses. He raises his arms and smiles.
"THE CITY IS GRACED BY THE IRON DRAGONS! MAY FORTUNE FOLLOW THEM, AND BLESS THOSE IN THEIR WAKE!"
The crowd erupts into cheering and shouting. Women wave their scarves and men throw their hats in the air.
Modjeska turns and motions with his arm. "If you would, kind lords, please pose for a moment. A portrait commemorating your first visit will be accomplished shortly."
The Chancellor flicks his finger toward the servants, and a thin, reedy man in a smock rushes out holding an easel. He plants it on the ground in front of the party. You pose yourselves to your liking, and he casts a spell, animating a brush to complete a lovely oil painting in a manner of seconds! He turns and shows it to you for your approval. Modjeska nods, and the man quickly gathers it under an arm and retreats to the knot of servants. The Chancellor gives you another bow, slightly smaller, and goes to join the knot of nobles and officials.
Cailean approaches, and places an open hand over his heart in greeting. "Ah will guide ye tae yer chambers, mah lords. If thaur is anythin' ye require priur tae yer audience wi' th' high laird mayur, a footman stationed ootwith yer duir will convey tae me aw ay yer needs." You think he is speaking Common. "Please follaw."
Cailean guides you to the entrance. The front doors are two stories tall, made of solid oak jacketed with gilded steel and bronze studs. Despite its massive bulk, they swing open with just a touch on their masterfully balanced counterweights. You enter a massive antechamber, a domed room of white marble, gold trim, and crimson furnishings. Servants scurry here and there attending to their duties. Cailean leads you through a series of chambers, each successively smaller but no less ornate. He stops in front of a door flanked by a pair of footmen, who bow their heads on your approach. "If ye require anythin', lit them men ken an' we will see tae it as quickly as possible." Cailean bows, and retreats, leaving you to your chambers.
The chambers are, put simply simple, lavish. Overstuffed velvet pillows, hardwood furniture, silk drapes, marble floors, and gold vessels -- the works. There are four rooms, with two beds a piece, connected to a central receiving room. The beds just so happen to be sized for the party's needs, and one of the chairs is even minotaur-sized.
It is mid-morning, and you have until this evening to prepare to see the High Lord Mayor.

"We've done this before, but now it's a little different. I've learned how to bind you all to a coven permanently. If you accept, there's some benefits. Telepathy within ten miles, along with the ability to locate each other anywhere within one mile. Slightly more intrusive is emotional empathy granted within one hundred miles. It might be awkward at first, for some more than others, but it's something that we should consider. We'll also have a sort of coven-sense, an ability to work together more instinctively. This is permanent though, so think about before you agree. Sorry Garret, once more this is the Magic Users Only club."
Beriothian -- AC:32/17/30 HP: 200/190 CMD = 22 Tuesday January 17th, 2017 9:03:18 AM
Beri holds up his staff and poses for the oil painting, he is surprised at how fast the brush works and how flawless the painting comes out. This whole introduction has been so grandiose that he finds himself having a hard time comprehending all that's happening. Sure the Iron Dragons were well known in Hook City, they had saved everyone there countless times, but this is the first time he's realized just how far their name has spread. Had news of them spread when they became Dragons, or have tales of their actions been spreading slowly across the Wold all this time?
*** Alone in the private chambers Beri gathers with the others to hear what Sesha has to say. The knife looks more than a little intimidating, but he trusts it in her hands.
That sounds like it would be a great help to us, and as long as we are brothers and sisters in the Iron Dragons together I see no reason not to be part of the same coven as well. Can you tell me more about this coven-sense?

Before they leave, Tink gives them a note to deliver. Breck promises to deliver the letter at once.
Just as the group is discussing their next move, the door flies open in a burst. "Greetings, Iron Dragons!" Into the room waltzes a gnome. Perhaps the most extravagant personage you have ever laid eyes upon. He is middle-aged and of average height for his race, and he wears a cloak that extends to the floor. His hair and clothes are a riot of color. The fabric is obviously enchanted, and the hues wriggle and writhe like electric rainbow snakes. His face is almost manic in exuberance and joy. A trio of footmen stand behind him holding bolts of cloth in a dozen colors. "I am Zilius Shockspinner! The finest tailor in the Elennian Peninsula, and personal fashion consultant to the Lord High Mayor. I heard that the Iron Dragons of the Dragon Consortium were in town and I had to come and see you." He takes in the party in one sweeping glance. "And I am none too late. Some more than others. You are all stars in this city, but I will have you glowing like the celestial fires of heaven before I am through. We cannot have anything less for your premiere at the court."
He holds up his hand and snaps his fingers. The trio of footmen come to attention. "Measurements! All of them. I will be attending to my sketchpad." The gnome sits in a heap of color onto the nearest divan and begins scratching furiously at a pad of paper. He appears to be drawing with his finger, and a minor illusion effect draws and colors at his command. The footmen set down the bolts of cloth and withdraw measuring tape. They smile and look to see who will be first.

Bosk soaks in the scene.
Garret is momentarily distracted from his plate of meats and cheese, but returns with gusto after a few moments.
Zane cooperates begrudgingly, and stretches out his wings to impress the little gnome.
Restlin kindly stops Garret from returning to the platter and reminds him that the monk could use a wardrobe update.
Sesha soaks in the scene.
Beriothian cooperates happily, considering he can change his appearance at will.
Tink suggests making an accessory out of blue dragons scales!

Zilius is thrilled that no one is actively resisting the process. He gushes over Zane's wings. "Oooooh!" He claps his hands in excitement. "They are just as I had heard! We can make you adaptive clothing to suit your fabulous physiology. Not a problem." He turns to Tink. "Those. Are. Gorgeous. I would be happy to turn them into stylish pauldrons!"
After a considerable amount of sketching, measuring, cutting, sewing, and adjusting, the Iron Dragons are dressed to the nines.
ooc: Feel free to make your outfits whatever you like, equivalent to a royal outfit in cost and craftsmanship. They are not glamered, but they will adjust to your bodies and change color at your mental command.
Zilius Shockspinner gives a bow. "You have honored me, serving as my canvas. I cannot wait to see the look on the face of the nobility. Especially Lady Hawksworth. That venomous harridan had the gall to besmirch my trade, all because I she lied about her measurements and tore her bustier!" He turns on his heels and departs the room, along with the fashion footmen.
You realize that in all the hubbub, you have perhaps an hour before your audience with the Lord High Mayor!

"Hrm."
Sesha considers the material. She considers Restlin. She thinks briefly of Mhalice, and sighs. she leaves her room and heads to where the men are.
"You."
She pokes Restlin almost immediately upon entering the room. She's wearing a dress colored deep charcoal grey, several shades heavier than her own bright gray skin. It's trim, on the wide sleeves and skirt hems, are red, a color she usually chooses to ignore. Her dress has a hood, also trimmed in crimson, which coupled with her scarf, now monogramed with the white rose of Serenbeth, hides most of her face.
Long twin-tail braids of white hair tied with red clips made of wyvern skin rest gently halfway down her chest.
"Keep in mind that in the future, when we appear together in It'lal, we are expected to share some color in our clothing when we appear together. Unless your out of favor with me, then your not supposed to, because your only supposed to color match a matron if she allows it. Unless you are in favor but we don't want to publicly announce a relationship, then you wear colors not related to mine, but I honor you with a token of the same color. But.. um.. if you aren't specifically allowed and you do it by accident .. then.. then..?"
Sesha stomps a foot and massages her brain, trying to remember the myriad of social cues Mhalice tried to brief her on in their last short, brief meeting in the Giggling Ghost. Confusion and embarrassment ripple over their emotional link.
"Just wear something handsome, mage-priest!"
Sesha pokes him again, then stomps out of the room and barges into Tinks room.
"I am going to be the worst matron ever Tink." With a groan, she flops face first onto Katinka bed.
"Boys are stupid."

Restlin wordlessly listens to Sesha try and explain what he should wear as her consort. He remains wordless as she pokes him again and stomps out.
He stands a moment, a trickle of amusement filling the coven's emotional link, along with...something else. She did look very nice. He turns to their fancy tailor.
"Well, you heard the lady. Charcoal with crimson trim."
The result is a charcoal suit. The jacket falls just above his waist. The vest is mostly charcoal as well, but embellished with a fine golden chain. A crimson silk ascot adds the color the rest of the suit lacks. Angled from his shoulder is a new baldric for Shiny that leaves the blade bare for all to see. The intelligent weapon is quite fond of it. His cloak is well contained by a platinum clasp fashioned from the holy symbol he created. The cloak covers one shoulder & hangs asymmetrically.
He takes off his detectivin' cap. "This hat is important, sir, but obviously I can't wear it with this. Any ideas?"
The result is a charcoal top hat with a crimson feather and band of crimson wyvern hide. The symbol of Wardd peeks above the band, as if winking at anyone who looks. It's just a bit ridiculous, really, but definitely in character with the magepriest. The original cap is woven into the top interior of the hat, hiding it, but still granting him use of its powers.
The whole ensemble is tailored to allow complete freedom of movement and contains hidden hardware allowing him to clip leather component pouches, also made from crimson wyvern hide.
He knocks on Tink's door to present himself to his (probably) still embarrassed paramour. "Well?" he asks with a spin. "How's this?"

After looking at the place card the young taur helps himself to some cheese, ribs and loin meat and eats with his best manners until the tailor arrives...Some of you more than others.
The Horned Cleric mentally reviews his appearance. Neatly groomed blond hair with a nice black pea-coat sewn of chimera skin for an outer layer. The material is strangely soft and warm, thick enough that it conceals any weapons or armor underneath yet light enough to be cool to wear in the sun...but more importantly he sees how the end sweeps just above the floor as he walks making him look totally bad but in a good way. Under the his Steel Grass armor is visible, the woven material of the Sargrass strangely exotic and unobtainable since the land was set magically on fire.
Bosk nods in agreement with the others. I think black with blue dragon scales would look nice, but I will leave the style up to you. What ever is designed cannot interfere with anything magical I carry, and I must easily be able to access my bag of holding. My pockets must large enough to be functional, and my sleeves left loose. (Bosk has spring loaded wrist sheaths up his wrists from a G.G. gift, used for R.P., and a lead pocket liner which he stores his poisons in to prevent scrying). As for the rest of my appearance, I can move my tattoos to accommodate your look. They will go where I tell them.
For a moment the cleric thinks about offering the use of his armor detailing kit, with unique pigments that can dye, paint and embellish his gear (lotto prize), but he assumes the man before him will have as nice if not nicer equipment and decides not to risk offending the guy.

"I don't think I can take you to It'lal after all. I'll be killing challengers for my chosen by the day."
She steps out of the way when she Tink slides out, then grabs Restlin and pulls him into the room and slams the door shut behind them. She gives him a firm hug, then holds him at arms length.

Garret looks over when Restlin explains about the tailor. He looks down at his single item of clothes, the pants, and says, “Stains? I don’t see any stains?” Of course, there are many, many stains. And holes.
He watches with interest as the others line up and select a myriad of different colors and styles. He is impressed by the blue dragon scales and he mentions to the tailor that he has ridden dragons, twice actually. When he is asked about the styles of clothes he says, “Well, these pants have worked fine for me, so I suppose I could just have another pair just like them? Oh, but with all the different people picking so many different styles and colors, maybe I should have an entire rainbow of colors? Then I would match everyone, right?”
Beriothian -- AC:32/17/30 HP: 200/190 CMD = 22 Monday January 23rd, 2017 9:50:59 AM
Taking queues from the rest of the Iron adventurers, Beri chooses a suit the color of dark iron with a slight luster to it. Pulling in the colors of the rest of the IA, but paying extra care not to match Sesha. His jacket is embroidered with leaves and vines the color of steelgrass, intricately dancing down his jacket's lapel, and down his shoulders and sleeves. Throughout the delicate weaving are flowers with petals that appear to be of blue dragon scales... of course, the flowers are far to small to be real dragon scales, but the symbolism is clear.
Underneath his jacket is a crimson shirt, with darker grey patterns woven in. A close inspection show it to be a field of red flowers, with glimpses of the shade covered iron ground beneath. His pants are much more simple, of like shimmering iron fabric, and a comfortable pair of steelgrass colord shoes complete his outfit.
Beri takes some time to put his hair into order, using iron fasteners to hold it into place, each one in the shape of a dragon with blue eyes and a jet of blue flames coming from their mouths.
Well, I think we clean up rather well for a bunch of seasoned adventurers. What do you think?
Beri shows the others his outfit and asks them what they think.

Zane watches as the Gnome worked his magic and his MAGIC. He waited while the Gnome worked his robe into the design. It being a simple brown was causing problems..... Eventually, Zane needed to take it off for the "Official" fancy outfit, but the cut of it allowed it to be worn underneath as well when required. The end result was highly different from what most of the rest have. It's a basic glossy black silk with white edging, that in the right light shows it's metallic bronze underweave. The sleeves when his arms are in front of him, hang a good four feet, showing the design which is a lightning pattern. The Back is embroidered with the same dragon picture as his tattoo. The Dragon scales are worked into the picture imitating the flow of the roiling seas, looking like crashing waves under the picture of the dragon. While Zane had been able to see parts of the picture before, he hadn't seen the whole thing. He also got a pair of pants to match and the look on a almost 9' talk Minotaur wasn't too bad. (picture the robes cut like the bad guys in Big Trouble in Little China, but colored as described) "It'll do for formal times, but I'm more of a informal clothing type of guy I guess."

Bosk smiles as the tailor upgrades his outfit to fit over is armor so that it is functional and elegant while still presenting the dangerous nature of a Grim Avenger. The Chimera jacket has been reworked to match some unbelievable dragon scale boots with matching dragon scale belt and adornments for the most formal of occasions. Custom scabbards are also made with the sheath for his 5 1/2 ft bastard sword highlighted across his back. On his chest is his WLA pin while his Iron Dragon clasp holds his cloak closed.
Garret considers the shotgun-approach of a rainbow outfit.
Zane flaunts his new outfit, pleased with its fit.
Restlin listens to his paramour and adjusts his clothing to match.
Sesha tries her best to educate Restlin on the complicated protocols surrounding hue-matching and relationship status among the Woldian drow.
Beriothian matches the rest of the party and picks an iron-gray with red trim outfit.
Tink is enamored with her new blue dragon scale pauldrons.
=====
The hour of preparation left to you flies by in a rush, and a soft knock at your door lets you know that it is time. You gather yourselves into something resembling a processional, and open the door. Cailean is there with two footmen, and all three are dressed in full livery -- white cassocks with a golden sunburst on the chest and brocaded sleeves in gold. They bow and motion forward. "This way, mah lairds."
Cailean takes the lead with the footmen trailing. You make your way through another bewildering array of chambers and halls until you come to an imposing set of double-doors. They are tall enough for a minotaur, and covered entirely in relief-set gold gilt. They swing open, and you find yourself in a vaulted chamber. White marble floors and columns support an arched ceiling some thirty feet above your heads. Numerous stained-glass windows allow sunlight to filter into the room and create an array of fuzzy artwork on the highly-polished floor. The room is perhaps 200 feet long, and between the columns flanking your path are dozens of well-dressed men and women of numerous races. All of them are dressed in clothes that would cost a peasant a year's wages, at least.
At the far end sits a throne. It is on a dais only one step above the gallery (he is a High Lord Mayor after all, not a king). It is likewise covered in gold gilt with a red velvet seat. On the seat is a human male, dressed in resplendent robes of white silk with gold brocade and a brilliant sunburst on his left breast. He is middle-aged, with brown shoulder-length hair and a neatly-trimmed beard. His eyes are a piercing blue. He wears thick golden chain for a necklace, likely his symbol of office. He reaches up a hand and beckons you forward.
You proceed along the length of the court, and people show respects with every step. Some bow, some curtsy, and those with especially regal outfits give polite nods. An administrator flanking the Mayor gives a small signal for you to stop about twenty feet short of the dais. Cailean bows, steps to the side, and takes a knee in respect. He whispers out the side of his mouth. "Ye dornt need tae kneel, but ye main baw an' introduce yoorselves tae th' coort."

Those of you deploying any type of magical detection are almost overwhelmed by the sheer amount of magic in the room -- primarily abjurations, but a good number of transmutation and necromantic auras can be seen. Most likely spells to protect, enhance, and bolster very important people against attacks. You would guess that nearly every single occupant in the room carries some type of enchantment on their person.
But all pale in comparison to the Lord High Mayor. His magical auras blaze like a bonfire surrounded by mere torches. You would guess that he wears extremely powerful items on person, perhaps even a minor artifact.
The Lord High Mayor Sturtavent stands and clasps his hands behind his back. He clears his throat, and the court falls silent. "Greetings." His voice is obviously amplified by magic, and resounds throughout the chamber as though he were whispering in the ear of every person present (ooc: like a microphone with speakers). "By the authority of my office, I welcome you. My court welcomes you. Plateau City is graced by your presence." His voice is a deep and smooth baritone, filled with regal wisdom. Garret shifts he feet nervously as he finally starts to realize the importance of this event. He wonders how in the world he has found himself in the middle of it. He concentrates hard to try and stop his stomach from making any noises while the others explain.
Restlin (Carl) -- AC +16/+7/+13 CMD: +17 HP: 146/146 +10 Temp HP(Spells) Luck Points: 8/20 d20+3=15 Thursday January 26th, 2017 9:42:11 AM
Man...this guy. Hook City was run more by bureaucracy than a central power. This guy...this guy had power the likes of which Restlin had never seen.
He preferred bureaucracy.
Regardless, he clears his throat and begins.
"Very well, Lord High Mayor. We are here investigating a Death Dragon cult. One of their cells attacked us in Hook City in broad daylight. We fought them off, but they were no pushovers.
"Tink and Bosk here managed some success in their interrogation. We've learned that the head of this cult, or at least *a* head of this cult, is a lich who's been operating from around these parts. My own research suggests this lich has been doing so for years. They count the entire Dragon Consortium as their enemies and seek to discredit and destroy all of us.
"They claim to serve Gargul, and they did indeed practice divine magic. This does not jive with Gargul's current...disposition." He starts to relax as he talks.
"Anyway, we're hear to investigate the cult, find out if and how they're channeling Gargul's divinity, and put a stop to this lich."

Zane stands as he has stood for the past few minutes, but over the link, "This Lord High Mayor" seems to run this place more like a ships captain than I've seen shot of a deck in my life. It seems that he has a handle on just about everything. Not that I don't trust him, but just be ready in case something goes awry." Zane just continues backing up his friends in whatever way they need.

Sesha can't help but notice the hints of distrust and concern flowing through the link of her most important coven-mates. This is a bit confusing to her, but she figures it's a difference in upbringing. She's glad at least, that Zane seems to have the same view of it she does.
She lets her thoughts flow through the link and dance over the magical bonds that enable their telepathy.
"He seems to be in complete control. In all honesty, I trust a powerful leader more than a council of bureaucrats. He made it here through force of will I imagine. This means our relationship with him is more important than the opinions of a horde of sycophants. I'm okay with this."
Still, she had a play to make. She gazes intently at the man, her one good eye twinkling with arcane sight.
"High Lord Mayor, does your decree apply to all equally in this room? May we assume that we too, are subject to scrying for three days, as well as yourself? May we also request too, that we have access to the scrying which is used to monitor those in attendance? As representatives of the Dragon Consortium, a promise of discretion on all subjects not related to our mission should be sufficient for the privacy of state matters."

Tink stands quietly, looking about the room. She stands by her belief that their leader - the man before them - was a good man at heart.
"If he wasn't, the city would no doubt show it" she deduces.

"High Lord Mayor, does your decree apply to all equally in this room?
"Yes. Everything that happens within the manor is seen and heard. Those who leave the court will be followed to ensure their discretion."
May we assume that we too, are subject to scrying for three days, as well as yourself?
"Yes, though you will be subject to scrying out of concern for your welfare. You are free to disclose this information to anyone who may assist you in your mission." He smiles slightly. "I will not be followed, per se. I already know what I do."
May we also request too, that we have access to the scrying which is used to monitor those in attendance? As representatives of the Dragon Consortium, a promise of discretion on all subjects not related to our mission should be sufficient for the privacy of state matters.
Sturtaven shakes his head slightly. "That I cannot permit. Those who have chosen to stay in the court did not consent to such. I can permit that you will be immediately notified if any go against my word."

The High Lord Mayor strokes his beard in thought. He stands, and the assembled court reflexively take a step forward to hear him, despite the magical amplification of his voice. He beckons with an open palm toward the crowd on his right. "Eorcenbald! What say you?"
The court parts, and you an elderly human male dressed in resplendent robes covered in the holy symbols of Gargul. His clothes are a rich black velvet, covered in silver brocade. He steps forward with the aid of a staff. "Yes, Lord Mayor."
Sturtavent nods to the old man. "This is High Priest Eorcenbald, Grand Cleric of Gargul. Perhaps the most powerful servant of Gargul in the Wold. What say you, old friend? Do their words carry weight with your memory?"
The priest furrows his brow and stares at the floor for a few moments before shaking his head. "I do not. The title of 'Death Dragon' has been used by many people to describe several different gods. Heresies have come and gone. If they drew on the divine, and claimed it was from Gargul, then this is concerning, indeed." He licks his lips. Old men tend to have perpetual dry-mouth. "I would suggest we attempt to contact Gargul directly. We will have the most success from the temple. Might I ask if the Iron Dragons would accompany me? It would be sacrilege to make such contact in the court."
The High Lord Mayor nods in agreement. He turns to the party. "Will you accompany Father Eorcenbald?"

A susurrus of whispers rises among the court as Sturtavent nods to acknowledge your leave. Those in attendance cannot share the information they have heard, but there is nothing to stop them from talking with someone already in-the-know. Those in power are always planning.
High Priest Eorcenbald shuffles forward, his staff rapping on the marble floor with each step. He stops in front of you and smiles, puckering his already wrinkled face. "Shall we?" He reaches out and places a hand on Restlin's shoulder. "If you would, wizard, please place your hand on the shoulder of another. They in turn place their hand on another, forming a chain. The last person will place their hand on my shoulder." The Iron Dragons comply. The old priest takes a deep breath, squeezes his eyes shut, and "Skidoosh!"
The court pops like a balloon, and you are suddenly standing in a an antechamber of plain wooden floors and gray stone walls. Father Eorcenbald removes his hand and breathes out deeply. "You may feel a bit dizzy. It will pass." He smiles with a glint in his eye. "And please pardon my theatrics. I do not require a command word to return to the sanctuary, but the nobility does not need to know that. This way, if you would."
He leads you through a an arched portal into a larger chamber. The walls, floor, and celing are gray marble covered with holy symbols and prayers in gold filigree. Holy symbols of Gargul are no less than a span apart from each other. At the center is a pedestal with a black stone bowl. Eorcenbald heads toward the bowl. "Well, now. It is not every day we need to contact Lord Gargul directly. We will first contact Gimp. Old Grim Eyes is a stickler for protocol. I'm too old to make waves any more."
He pauses and turns toward the party. "I suggest you prepare your questions carefully. Gimp does not like being called to the physical plane, and will answer in a cheeky and flippant way if you are not specific."

Zane never liked having to speak with Gimp or Gargul, that usually meant one of his friends needed to be spoken for so that they could return to the Wold to continue fighting the good fight. He'd seen his chosen Deity from a distance, but had never spoken in person to him, but he guessed there was more chance to bargain with the Lord of Life and Death than any other. "How about asking, Is it possible that these Dragon Cultists are drawing their spell casting from Gargul? He sighs a bit. "Maybe we should let Tink do the talking. She's not a follower of his and is trained on being neutral and impartial. I hold Gargul in high esteem, but he's got a temper. Best to not have his followers among us anger him."

The Grand Cleric of Gargul reaches into a pocket near his waist and retrieves a small pearl. He bends down and places it on the ground. He aims his staff carefully, and raps the butt on the pearl, smashing it to pieces. He looks up and speaks to the ceiling. "Gimp. It's Eorcenbald. I am calling in Favor 4. Personal audience."

"Our apologies for calling you away from your 'important matter'", Master Imp" Tink really isn't sure how she should address Gimp. Calling him by name would be too personal and informal. Bosk smiles as Gimp appears before them. He remembers the creature's impish attitude, even with the Lord of Life and Death and recalls how the imp always referred to him as Bosky and Gargul as Bossy Man. Gimp, it has been too long. I hope all is well with you. Most of what you told me about my future has already come to pass. Tink is correct. The cult attacked us and it sounds like they are trying to bring forth the darker nature of Gargul's past and drawing power from it. We believe the head of the cult is the undead lich responsible for my parent's demise. If I recall correctly, her name was Vivian Taurbane. Any information we could gleam on the lich or its occult would be helpful, as would any insight into Gargul's feelings on the matter, though our first meeting did make it clear how he feels about those who would try to subvert his Grim.
DM Tanner Tuesday January 31st, 2017 11:27:58 PM
Master Gimp's mouth opens ever so slightly during your explanation, and stays that way.
"Wat." The imp looks thoroughly confused. "What's a Death Dragon? There's a whole cult of them!? And they're worshiping Bad-Gargul!? And casting spells!? AND THEY'RE LED BY A LICH!?"
He snaps his gaze to the priest. "Yorkie! Talk some sense. Is this legit?"
Father Eorcenbald clears his throat. "I have not confirmed it. It happened on the Southern Continent. They are members of the Dragon Consortium, now. It is a safe bet to trust them."
Gimp rubs his temples. "Frak. Fraaaaaaak. Frak frak frak. Okay. Okay, we can handle this." He looks at the Iron Dragons. "Sorry. One of the duties I perform for Bossy Man is keeping an eye on the physical plane. You mortals get into all sorts of trouble, and I have to keep him apprised of what's what. But this... this is new. Hold on." He puts his face in his hands and gently rocks back and forth, deep in thought.
After perhaps ten seconds, he gasps for air. "I got nothin'! I've never heard of these guys. I've never heard of anyone worshiping his dark side. I've NEVER heard of Bossy Man allowing no undead to cast spells!" He sighs dejectedly. "I guess I need to ask Gargul. Just a sec."
Gimp looks at the ceiling (while other planes of existence are hardly 'up,' it apparently is a universal sign of speaking to someone not present), and speaks. "Bossy Man! I have a question. Do you know anything about Death Dragons, Vivian Taurbane, or worshiping your bad side?"
After several seconds, Gimp furrows his eyebrows. "Uhh... Bossy Man?"
Several seconds. "Um, what? Bossy Man! Question about Death Dragons!"
Nothing.
Gimp looks at the party, his face obviously perplexed. "So.... I can't reach Bossy Man. I can FEEL him. I can sense his power. But... I can feel his power being blocked every time I think of the Death Dragons. Watch. Off. On! Off. On! Off. On!" He scratches his face. "That's never happened. Something is blocking me. Something is blocking whenever I try to ask about these Death Dragons. Even my empathy link is cut off when I think about it."
He looks at the priest. "Yorkie. This is super serious."
Eorcenbald nods. "I know."
Gimp raises an eyebrow. "Any ideas?"
Eorcenbald shakes his head. "None. Whatever it is, it is powerful. Someone does not want Gargul to be involved. Allow me to try." The priest closes his eyes and mumbles a prayer. After a few moments, he also furrows his eyebrows and raises his head. "Remarkable! I contacted Lord Gargul, felt his presence in my mind, and the moment I thought of the Death Dragons the link was cut like a door slamming shut."
Gimp looks at the Iron Dragons. "What about you guys? Any ideas?"

"Anything that could interupt or sever the connection between Gimp and Gargul is way beyond any power that I know of" she says to the group.
She turns back to Gimp "This may be perhaps the oddest question you've ever been asked, but are you able to determine whether Gargul is ok? I'm just fearful that the kind of power that could affect your contact with him may be the result of another deity. Specifically... Marteus"
Beriothian -- AC:32/17/30 HP: 200/190 CMD = 22 Wednesday February 1st, 2017 8:54:31 AM
Beri ponders the situation for a moment. I suppose the first step is to test the limits of the spell itself, see what we CAN ask him.
For starters, "are you there?" See if normal communication is possible, not just a connection.
"do you know what is blocking our communication". It's an easy to miss edge case, and technically does not involve thinking of the Death Dragons.
We could simply ask "where" and trust Gargul to guide us to what we need, even if he can't convey anything about the situation.
We could just ask him if he wants to meet for a pint of beer. That in no way involves the currently blocked topics. And if Garret requests it any magical scrying or such on his intent will come up as pure and that he truly just thinking about filling his belly!
You know, if you really believe you are on the right side you would think that the last thing you would want is to block out the proof.

Gimp, I do not suppose you could offer us a boon. Some trinket or piece of knowledge that might help us on our way. As one of Gargul's Eyes I know some of you and Garul's history and the parts of Gargul's past they might be drawn to, but none of the specifics. Can you tell us if there are any special items or or locations that might have meaning or use to the occult? Anywhere we might start our investigation or anything we might wish to obtain before facing them again?
DM Tanner Wednesday February 1st, 2017 11:55:41 PM "Let me try." Gimp closes his eyes and concentrates, his face screwing up from the effort.
"He's there. He says he's fine. He says I'm being impertinent." He pauses for a few moments. "I can't even ask him about the block. Even thinking about the block is activating the block." Pause. "He says he does not know about any new major threats. That's about as specific as I can get and maintain a link." Pause. "I think he's concerned now. I keep breaking off. Hold on."
Nearly a minute passes in silence.
Gimp opens his eyes. "Okay. Bossy Man is concerned, which on a scale of seriousness from 1 to 10, is an 11. He knows I keep getting cut off, and that I'm trying to talk to him, and it only happens when I try to talk about a certain thing. I was able to ask him about undead in the area. He 'looked around' and found something funny near us. Some crazy-strong emanation." Gimp holds up a finger and points. "He said its that way. He couldn't get more specific. Too many overlapping auras. I don't know, I'm not a wizard."
Father Eorcenbald raises an eyebrow. "Exactly that way?"
Gimp looks at his finger, adjusts it half an inch. "Yep! That way."
Eorcenbald huffs. "Very well. Let me see... South by southeast... There is nothing but ocean! Until you reach," he purses his mouth in in thought. "Until you reach Farpoint Island. It is a small, rocky outcropping, over 100 leagues from the city proper. It has been charted many times, and every time confirmed to be nothing but rock, inhabited only by lichen and seabirds. But over the past several weeks, there have been ships missing. The town of Red Colt on the coast keeps us apprised of merchant traffic. Not many, perhaps half a dozen. It has been chalked up to storms or pirates or such, but now that I think about it... they would have all passed within a close distance to Farpoint Island."
Gimp speaks. "I asked Bossy Man about an audience. He asked why, and I lost the connection. He told me to stop goofing around." The imp grimaces. "I think Bossy Man is worried, and is going to look into things himself. You guys should probably do the same."
Restlin - Highlight to display spoiler: {"Hm? Sure, I'm bored anyway. Hold on... Gargul just called me a scoundrel and told me he's busy. Sorry." You find his response to be both disturbing and completely expected, as befits Wardd.}

"Let's head back to Plateau and make some quick preparations. If something can interupt the connection between Gimp and Gargul, it's very powerful and very ... bad"

Sesha feels a pang of sympathy for the imp. If anything had ever slid a wall of any kind between here and Serenbeth, she wasn't quite sure what she would do. She feels for the familiar mental presence of Pot-pot.
"You there, you lump of iron?
"Always, you snotty little witch."
She hadn't spoke much with the spirit companion lately, and felt slightly bad about it. She'd have to make up for it somehow. In the meantime though, there was work to be done.
"One. We should make a couple of assumptions. If Gimp is blocked from telling Gargul about this, we can assume that the blocker knows that we tried to report on the situation. So were probably going in with them waiting."
She holds up a her slender fingers and counts.
"Two. Lets assume that since they can kidnap ships in a radius around their island, they can scry it safely enough and that it's warded. A teleport in or flying over the surface might get us detected. I suggest we play sailor for awhile until they nab us."

Restlin chuckles, seemingly for no reason. "Seriously folks, you picked the wrong horse," he says to his friends without context. He knew Wardd was as likely to not speak with him as to speak with him, but he couldn't help but feel honored.
He stands. "Wouldn't playing sailor put the rest of the crew at risk? I'm sure Zane is an excellent sailor, but is it realistic to only have a single capable sailor crew an entire ship?"
It's not a rhetorical question. Restlin has no idea. "Anyway, you guys plan this. I haven't seat-of-my-pantsed one of these in a while. I think it's time..."

Beriothian -- AC:32/17/30 HP: 200/190 CMD = 22 Thursday February 2nd, 2017 10:37:57 AM So Gargul is investigating... Bosk, any idea what would happen if Gargul was somehow completely blocked out of the Wold? I'm sure he is far stronger than one cult acting in his name, but it feels like they may be being led by a Power other than himself. And while I trust Gargul's strength, this cult could have been planning a trap for centuries... and if they are attacking now it would mean the trap is ready to be sprung.
Eorcenbald, you know the land better than we could ever hope to, do you have any suggestions on how we might get to Farpoint Island undetected?
I assume it will take some time before we have completed our plans... if it will be a while I would like to cast talk with animals and see if any fish or seabirds can provide any details on the missing ships and any other defenses or oddities they may have noticed recently.

Zane thinks about the problem for a few minutes....."I know the majority of you are uncomfortable about sailing there.... There in one Boat in the Wold that a single person can control that could get us there. I've actually never seen it, but I've heard a lot about it, especially when i was sailing around following leads. I expect there was a lot of exaggeration involved, but it has been seen. It would require asking permission to borrow it from the group it belongs to over at Black Bird Lake and then just a few days to get it sailed where we need. It's called the Silver Swan, or Silver Goose or Silver Bird-something. It runs on magical fire, that's all I know, but we are looking for options....."
DM Tanner Thursday February 2nd, 2017 11:04:12 PM
Gimp shakes his head to Bosk's question (he sensed you were going to ask it). "Nope, Bosky. I've never heard of it."
"There is a ship you can take." Eorcenbald interjects. "It is the Shrieking Eel. It is ostensibly a merchant vessel, but is in actuality a ship crewed by militia commandos and used as a cover for clandestine operations. It can take you to the edge of the area where ships are disappearing. You could then use overland flight to reach the island. The Temple of Gargul would be happy to provide you with a scroll for each member of the Iron Dragons."
He licks his lips. Old man dry-mouth again. "Sturtavent! I know you're listening. Please arrange for a coach to Red Colt."
He looks to you again. "I think transportation to the coast can be ready within the hour. Is there anything else you need? I wish you could have more time to prepare, but swiftness is paramount."

DM Tanner Saturday February 4th, 2017 3:55:22 PM
As before in the court of the High Lord Mayor, Eorcenbald bids you to place your hands on each other's shoulders. Just before you leave, Gimp promises to continue doing his best to find out what is happening. The sacred chamber within the Temple of Gargul pops and you are once again in the presence of Sturtavent. He still sits on his throne wearing his regalia, but the chamber is empty save a few retainers and servants.
He rises. "We are scrying every member of the court, and thus far no one has given us cause for concern." He motions toward a side door, where Cailean stands at attention. "The crowds will recognize you, and mob you, if you are seen outside. Cailean will guide you through the manor to a back door. It leads to a private courtyard. Two carriages wait to take you to Red Colt. You will be accompanied by men without livery. They can have you to the coast in a few hours, and boarded on the Shrieking Eel soon after. Please, let us know if there is anything Plateau City can do to aid your quest."
Father Eorcenbald hands the party a scroll tube. "There are eight scrolls of overland flight, enchanted with enough strength to get you to the island and then some, in case of emergency."
Cailean opens the side door and beckons to you.
[ooc: Please post anything you would like to say, request, or prepare before leaving.]
You are led through the manor house, out the back door, and into the interior of two carriages. They bear no mark or heraldry, and neither do the men who accompany you on horseback. The drivers whip their reins and you speed through the city streets and countryside.
After perhaps four hours, you arrive in Red Colt. Peeking out the slats of the windows reveals a typical port city, filled with homes, shops, warehouses, and docks. The carriages drive right up to the dockyards, and stop in front of a gangplank. The Shrieking Eel is ready to receive you. The sailors on board, like the men who escorted you, bear no mark or heraldry. The captain of the vessel looks like the captain of any other merchant vessel, but his eyes dart back and forth with the wariness of a man expecting trouble. "Please come aboard and stow yourselves below deck. Quickly! You can come above deck after we have left the harbor."
You cross the gangplank and step around sailors in trousers and bare feet hauling ropes, hoisting sails, and making ready for departure. Below deck you find several cots arranged around piles of crates and barrels. Obviously this is no passenger liner, but it will do for now.
The captain and crew are eerily silent. They prepare their ship without the barking orders typical of sailors, and you feel the Shrieking Eel leave the dock, swivel, and make for the open sea.

Restlin thanks Sturtavent, Eorcenbald, and their tailor for the amazing treatment they've received. He also makes a point to thank the servants who've been so attentive. He takes aside whichever servant seems to be most attentive. "I've left several valuable items in my room. Luck quests dictate I take only a few things and trust in Wardd and myself to make it through. Please do see that they're left undisturbed." He tries not to sound haughty when he says this.
That done, he's ready to go.

Zane, feeling at home on the water, finds it weird that the sailors are so silent, he's used to the shouting of both the Captain and the First Mate as ships take sail. Either this is an unusually competent crew or they have some sort of silent communications similar to the rings their own group has. He finds the Captain, "Sir, Name's Zane Stormfront, if you need any assistance, just let me know. I haven't done much sailing up here in the North, but I've spent years at sea in the Southern Oceans." Unless the Captain says something immediately, Zane moves away and stays out of the way as best as possible. Over the link, "Don't try and help unless asked, but if there is an attack, well, you can figure that out for yourself. Just stay alert and ready."

Beri watches as Restlin pulls out a handful of items for this quest and can't help but notice that Wardd seems to be watching out for his follower. Hopefully it's a sign that Wardd will be watching out for them, and not that it's going to be so rough that Wardd felt the need to stack the deck to avoid the fun ending too quickly. He chooses to trust it's the former. *** Greetings Captain, thank you for having us aboard your ship. Beri keeps the niceties short and follows the others quickly out of view from prying eyes..

As they prepare to head out Bosk thanks the High Lord Mayor and Father Eorcenbald for their help. Please keep the details of our mission a secret for now, but let the people know we have preparations to make. Have food sent up to our rooms and act as if e are still here.
