Beri says she is glad that they have the rings to communicate, saying they should regroup if possible and that he could turn into something with the scent ability.
Tink points out that they have find the path, which could save their lives if it comes to it. She points that the rings will allow them to know where everyone is except the mind blanked among them.
Zane lets the others do their thing.
Bosk observes the layout and points out that if need be he can cast word of recall to take them home, but it is important to move forward. He then tries to make sure he is indeed confused by the structure and notices that the area is unaffected by the maze spell, something else is generating the effect.
Restlin says everyone has good ideas as he would just as easily rely on his luck. He says Beri has a good idea with the scent based form.
Sesha says the girls should keep looking and shrugs to the party saying that they should just go forward for now and that they could shadow walk out of there if needed.
The layout of the structure is very confusing with many branching paths and a variety of materials used. There does not appear to be a chance of the party being crushed by the wall nor does it appear that the labyrinth is trying to split the party. The party and the girls notice reticulated splines and refactored wave matrices of magical energies.
The girls keep going in their opposite directions until eventually something comes over the link "Matron, we think we found something. Our respective paths have both opened up to a sandy arena-like cavern and there is a faint aura of evocation. This arena does not have seats and instead has caves located on the walls above the sandy pit surround like an audience of a tiered stadium. Some of the caves are empty and some contain monsters. On the highest Tier, a stone walkway with what appears to be various solid tables and platforms and shelves, all stock full of bubbling glass liquids or crock jars and papers in what looks like a weird mix of an alchemy lab, wizard’s experiment room, gnome tinker shop, and clerical chapel."
Between Sesha's locate person spell and Beri's scent ability the party is able to make it to where the girls are. “The tunnels wind in a confusion contusion that would have had the heroes certainly and completely lost if not for their planning and foresight. It must be hours before the group of heroes sees light and noises ahead…”
Matron comes over the link It appears that we are not alone, some of the inhabitants of the base have emerged on the highest tier of the arena, be careful
The Monstrologer is on the highest Tier, 60 foot above the arena. “You fools!”, shouts the hunched over human, “I have done nothing wrong! I have only helped the natural creations of the Wold better survive against incursions by civilization and so-called heroes! We are far from any inhabited land, we are not bothering anyone. You are the ones who have come to us, so let’s see how formidable my friends are now!”
The Monstrologer has a quiet exchange with himself [Perception DC 45] Highlight to display spoiler: {“But what about Taurbane?” asks the Monstrologer in one voice. “She gets to warn the Cabal that the Dragon Consortium is now aware of the Death Dragon Cult. You, however, get to win or die and atone for your mistakes.” is the reply to himself in another.}
The Monstrologer is standing at an apparatus and does something to it. With a roar a sleek, three-headed dragon rears up on its hind legs, wings spread and flames licking out from behind three sets of fangs. This creature emerges from the 1st cell in the arena as the monstrologer prepares to do battle with the Iron Dragons. As time on her summons expires, Sesha quietly thanks her friends. She would have tried to persuade the monsterologer, but he seems intent on combat. She makes a quiet note to the others.
"We may have to kill him and his pets. It's certainly going to be the easiest option, but keep in mind that if we are able to preserve their lives, we can probably barter them for information. It's not something I would risk our lives to do, but we might keep it in mind."
She feels Pot-pot renew her of Shield of Faith. Sesha herself starts with spectral hand.

Well, this is the one time where we may be able to talk but let's not waste time while we do it.
We who you have chosen to fight or die are forced to acquiesce to your request should that be what you desire. But I beg you to look around at the humble group before you before you do. I am a druid, lover of all the creatures of the Wold, I know many Monstrologers get their start as druids because we share the same love for all creations of the Wold. He then grips Shiny's pommel with two hands, pulling it apart into one real sword, and one fake (but still sharp one). He sends the copy after the monsterologer.

Beri decides that this three headed dragon probably has enough attacks to prevent a summon at this time. Why didn't they think to prepare before entering? It's not like they didn't know they were walking into this very scenario... oh well, live and learn. Perhaps it will work to their advantage should their host see things their way.
Also, you will note that we willingly walked into this arena without making attempt to prepare for combat, it is only now that you are forcing us into it that we prepare. More verification that my words from before are true. We ask once more that you let us depart in peace, do not make us injure these creatures of the Wold that you have so long cared for.
Should the druid's call for peace fall on deaf ears he will summon Beri then speaks telepathically to the others via his ring. Spread out everyone, if we must fight we don't want to let this dragon hit everyone with each of his attacks. He then readies a stoneshape spell and wall instantly produce a protective wall in front of him should the dragon attack, and will extend it to protect others should they desire (communicated via ring).

Garret tries to start a dialog with the Monstrologer.
Sesha too would have liked to dissuade him but she realizes that combat is imminent. She suggests over the link that they may be able to capture the Monstrologer and his pets to barter for information but it isn't worth risking their lives. Potpot renews the shield of faith while Sesha casts spectral hand
Beri gives an impassioned speech to the Monstrologer trying to appeal to an assumed common love of the creatures of the Wold.
Restlin reasons the Monstrologer has been instructed to win or die before flying up asking Shiny to make him smarter and then launching a mage's sword at the Monstrologer. The sword does not reach the Monstrologer and is turned aside by a barrier protecting the catwalk. (Spellcraft: DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {Wall of Force}) The sword strikes the barrier instead of the Monstrologer but you don't get a sense that the sword managed to damage the barrier (OOC: hardness not bypassed)
Tink is not excited to get into a battle with the Monstrologer as her father would say that Warrd has touched his brain. She instead focuses on the dragon using a spectral hand she summons to hit it with vampiric touch as she flies away from the group. She overcomes the creature's spell resistance (OOC: rolled a 30 on your behalf) and the spell drains some of its hp.
Beri continues to ask the Monstrologer to stand down before prepping a stoneshape spell and asking everyone to spread out.
Zane casts haste and then flies into the air.
Bosk also tries to deescalate with the Monstrologer observing to his behavior with his weapon drawn. He prays that the man will stand down while sending over the link that it sounds like the man was tricked.
The Monstrologer calls out to the group, "You people say you want peace and yet you attack my Gornych with necromancy and launch a sword of force at me. I do not trust you. I have to prove to Vivian my loyalty."
He then makes another move with the apparatus and a large long-necked dragon with steamy breath, a lashing tail, and a back covered in hundreds of quills comes out to join it's huge 3 headed brother. The Monstrologer then starts casting another spell (Spellcraft DC 16: Highlight to display spoiler: {magic weapon})
The 3 headed dragon is roughly surrounded with Bosk, Garret, Beri and Sesha on the ground spread out and Tink, Zane and Restlin in the air.
The Gornych fires off 3 streams of flame, one from each of it's heads. One stream targets Restlin (40 foot cone of flame, DC 24 Reflex save; 23 damage; half on success save) It also looks like it shook off some of the vampiric touch.
Another stream targets Tink in the air. (40 foot cone of flame, DC 24 Reflex save; 19 damage; half on success save)
The last stream targets Bosk and Sesha who are still close enough to each other that they can both be hit by a 40 foot cone of flame. (40 foot cone of flame, DC 24 Reflex save; 20 damage; half on success save)

Restlin knows a wall of force when he sees one, and that's a wall of force. Restlin also knows how to deal with walls of force. He lets loose a beam of green energy at the wall, hopefully destroying it.
He then flies up another 20' (fly skill autopass), asking Shiny to make him a bit more nimble since he's evidently dodging breath weapons.

Regardless of what he may by telling himself to pacify any remnants of a conscious he may still have, he's completely given himself over to evil and violence at this point. And pets raised by monsters grow up to be the same monsters as their masters... don't hold back guys.
Beri moves to the side and uses his stoneshape spell to create a wall, then just in case he extends it down 25 feet, leaving gaps that the ID can run through should they need to take momentary cover. The end result looking somewhat like the top of a castly. |¯|_|¯|_|¯|
He also makes sure there is no cage behind him/above him/etc. before doing this, just in case...

Irritation rumbles across the covens link. Beri was right, they -might- have talked this one down if they could have convinced him they were better for him and his pets than Vivan. At least they knew they were in the right place.
Nothing was looking too critical at the moment, so she takes a moment to separate herself from the others, dashing back 40 ft away from creature and not near an ally. She encourages Pot-pot to grow to Medium size.
"Get bigger you soup kettle. I need a ride."
Not sure what else to do exactly, she readies an action to counterspell the Monsterologer, using either the actual spell, or dispel magic if necessary.

"He's got a Wall of Force up" Tink relays over the link "It will stop most of the spells we cast at him, unless someone wants to teleport in with him" Just as she says it she notices Restlin casting a Disintegrate spell. "Yeah, well, you COULD do that I suppose"
Tink has another plan however. She moves to get into a position such that the floor of the Monstrologers platform is between her and him, but such that she can still see half of his body. She doesn't want to lose sight of him completely.
She then casts a Touch of Idiocy spell and directs her Spectral Hand to deliver it to the Monstrologer.

Beri sends over the link an observation regarding the Monstrologer and then uses his stoneshape spell to create a castle-y wall, there is no cage behind him nor one above that he can see.

Sesha dodges most of the flames, then sends irritation over the link as Beri was right. She instructs Potpot to grow and then readies to attempt a counter-spell.
Bosk calls the Monstrologer and argues he has gone against his ethos before flying towards the monstrologer.
Tink dodges the flame and goes to prepare another vampire touch when she realizes the effects don't stack. She points out the wall of force and then sends her spectral hand with a touch of idiocy through the catwalk at the Monstrologer but is not able to overcome the man's spell resistance. (OOC: Rolled a 19 for you)
Bosk attempts to bullrush the man but runs head-first into the wall of force instead.
The monstrologer throws another switch on the aparatus and one of the cages open up.
Tink, Garret, Restlin, Bosk (Perception: 25 Highlight to display spoiler: { You notice on the upper tier of the arena there is a 50 foot wide pool of water that sparkles briefly after the Monstrologer uses the controls })
The monstrologer then casts a spell (Spellcraft DC: 18 Highlight to display spoiler: {deeper darkness} which Sesha does not try to dispel considering the wall is still up and the catwalk is plunged into darkness (OOC: Everyone w/o true seeing active has a 50% miss chance against the Monstrologer)
The Gornych recovers a little more from the vampire touch, says to the Iron Dragons "We chose to serve the Death Dragons and Vivian Taurbane willingly, she gave us this sanctuary and we owe her, Vivicler is not in violation of his Monstrologer oath."
It then uses a spell-like ability (spellcraft DC 22 Highlight to display spoiler: {limited wish}) to cause a ray of green energy to fly at Restlin striking the mage (33 vs Touch; DC 21 fort save for 14 damage of 109 damage on failure)
The large dragon moves towards Sesha, gets within 10 feet of her and swings its spike tail at her but the the tail misses.
A colossal scaled serpent with the head of a shark, powerful claws, and a maw wide enough to swallow a small ship bursts from the the water pool to bite Zane (provoking AOOs from Restlin, Bosk, Garret and Tink). The Jaws penetrate the dragon disciple's armor(39 vs AC) dealing 58 damage and Zane would have been snapped up by the terrible maws if not for the protection against grappling the weave element spell conferred, however the haste effect is dispelled by the bite.

Tink ascends higher into the air. Things just got a lot more difficult...
"Guys, I might be seeing things, but I think that gornych thing is self-healing. You know, like regenerating. Oh, and the thing attacking Zane has highly poisonous quills that it can launch."
Tink starts casting a summoning spell (Summon Monster VIII)
(DM Hugh - colossal thing that attacked Zane is different the large dragon that attacked Sesha and missed has the quills)
Restlin curses. "That stupid monstrologer is protected by a cube of force. I don't have enough disintegration spells to bring the whole cube down."
He's hit by what looks like a disintegration, but is actually a limited wish spell. That worries him a bit, but the magepriest is made of tougher stuff than you'd think by looking at him (Fort save 36). His eyes widen as a third beast erupts near Zane. This is not going well. He instinctively slashes at the serpent as it attacks Zane, but just barely scratches it (Hit AC 31 for 1 damage). "Shiny, make me tougher," he says to his sword. Looks like they're in for a fight.
He hopes that serpent isn't too smart. Using Shiny, he makes a slash in the air, opening up a small portal. Anyone looking inside sees a massive labyrinth. He waits for the serpent to come back up, capturing it once it does. ***
Standard: Readied action: cast maze on serpent when it appears again - no saving throw, serpent is stuck in an extra-dimensional maze until it passes a D20 INT check, or 10 minutes pass. Note that if this is an actual sea serpent, they are aquatic, but not amphibious. It may asphyxiate in the maze.

She then starts summoning.
Restlin points out the Monstrologer is protected by a cube of force and that he does not have enough disintegrations to take it down. He reflects on the limited wish mimicking a disintegration and lashes out at the colossal serpent as it bites Zane but he does not hit it. He then prepares to hit the serpent with a maze next time it lashes out.
Sesha holds her ground and casts ethereal jaunt defensively.
Garret disappears from sight using abundant step to get up on the catwalk with the Monstrologer. He punches the monstrologer in the darkness but the man resists the blinding effect.
Zane lands a solid blow hitting the 3-headed beast with an upper cut catching it in a vulnerable position but he still notices the 3 headed dragon take less damage than it should.
Beri starts channeling his earthquake into a summon spell opting to play it safe.
Bosk catches the serpent with an AOO then follows Zane in going after the 3 huge three headed dragon moving to gain flanking. (OOC: You started by wall of force above ground at cat walk, the 3 headed dragon is still currently on the ground so you have to move to get within range, single attack) Bosk lands a blow on the 3 headed dragon but also notices his attack not doing as much damage as it should.
The Monstrologer flips another lever on the apparatus and a massive draconic creature with a birdlike head lets loose a piercing scream as it emerges from one of the caves and sees the party.
The Monstrologer then defensively casts a spell (spellcraft : 23 Highlight to display spoiler: {greater shadow evocation}) and a Large magic hand appears between the monstrologer and Garret.
Garret : (DC 24 will save Highlight to display spoiler: {You recognize the large hand as an illusion so it will not effect you as strongly as if you didn't notice it wasn't an illusion})
The hand bullrushes Garret away from the monstrologer and keeps the monk 5 feet away from the monstrologer and Garret. To get to the monstrologer Garret needs to bull rush the hand.
The 3 headed dragon takes a 5 foot step back and then attacks Zane and Bosk with 3 heads and its claws. Zane gets bit by one of the heads for 17 damage.
The Peluda moves to backup the Gornych swinging its tail at Zane as Sesha went enthereal. The tail misses.
The serpent creature bursts forth from the water, this time targetting Restlin but the mage priest is ready and the serpent launches itself into the maze (rolled a 25 to overcome spell resistance)

He looks to his remaining targets. The three headed thing was damaged already and had regeneration. The bird thing was bigger than the spiny thing, so he figures he'll target that. He pulls a little ball of gum from his pouch, making sure the quicksilver didn't leak out. He coughs a bit, then breaths a cloud of smoke onto the thing, which promptly changes shape to that of a small lizard.
The small lizard streaks at the bird-headed dragon, hopefully making it much easier to deal with.

With the fire elementals on their way Beri calls forth a Lightning storm inside the cave, being careful to make sure any clouds won't obstruct anyone view, keeps the clouds thin enough that nothing will be able to hide in them, and makes sure no cage doors are blocked to avoid any surprises.

Garret push pasts the hand but misses the Monstrologer.
Zane flurries at the Gornych catching it with 2 attacks and striking a vulnerable spot with the other. The Gornych still shrugs off some of the damage.
Tink completes her spell and summons some Lilend Azatas. 2 of the Azatas are on the ground within range of Zane, Bosk and Beri (OOC: only 1 of the effects work as they don't stack). The other 2 Azatas take to the air. All 4 Azatas use sound bursts leveled at the Gornych and the Peluda. (rolled 25,21,26,23) for spell resistance so the Peluda is affected by all and the Gornych is only affected by 1. The 2 creatures make all their saves.
Beri finishes his summon and 2 fire elementals appear near the 3 headed dragon. Each elemental hits with a single attack. The burning does nothing but the slams deal less damage than expected.
Beri starts to cast a chain lightning spell.
The Cleric's hand attempts to grapple Garret but fails. The cleric defensively casts a spell (Spellcraft DC 22 Highlight to display spoiler: { destruction } ) Garret gets hit by unholy fire. (DC 24 Fort Save or take 170 points of damage. If Garret makes the save he takes 39 damage)
The Gornych pauses for a second and then attacks missing with all 3 heads missing.
The Serpent is still trapped in the maze.
The bird-dragon is still trapped in the form of a lizard.
The Peluda makes a full attack on Zane. The Peluda bites Zane and then slashes him with one of its claws, completely missing with the other claw and its tail. (29 damage total)

Sesha watches Zane, considering his damage taken. She crushes a tiny bead in her spell component pouch and casts stoneskin on the cleric, holding her ground again.
She has little trouble keeping her concentration, and finds the leyline she sought was a strong one. She takes a moment to relay through the link.

Restlin points out that the three headed dragon is displaced and then targets it with glitterdust. The creature heroically resists being blinded but is partially outlined by the dust. (OOC creature is huge so it is part invisible part visible w/ a 10 foot spread)
Zane sees that the glitterdusted creature looks the same as the creature he is fighting and realizes the creature he was fighting is an illusion so he moves and attacks the dusted creature striking it once but not critically (OOC: since you moved you only get 1 attack)
Beri tries to target the partially visible creature but fails to overcome the beast's protection (OOC: rolled 20 on your check to overcome SR). His lightning bolt however is strong enough to get past its magical protection. The beast manages to dodge some of the lightning bolt.
Both elementals hit with one of their slam attacks doing less damage than expected again. (OOC: has DR; immune to burn)
Sesha confers stoneskin on Zane.
Bosk dimension doors onto the catwalk.
Tink directs her Azatas to attack the lizard and use soundburst. Neither of the Azatas manage to hit the lizard and neither of the Azatas overcome the Gornych's protection.

Garret prepares to attack again when the monstrologer creates that scream. Garret's eyes bulge and he covers his ears with his hands for a moment, letting the sound pass. It still hurt him, but he moved back into position to attempt another attack with arms and legs flying about in the darkness.

Bosk feels the creature's scream echoing in his head, literally tearing his brain apart...but luck is on his side and he manages to shrug it off somehow. Silently he thanks Waard that Restlin is close by, for surely this was his luck acting upon him.
Actions : Fort Save = 26! Passed! (Just made it thanks to Restlin's bonus. (+4 cloak, +2 Restlin, +3 Con, +1 legacy Item, +11 class bonuses) If for some reason Restin's bonus is not counted I will use a hero point to boost it up to passing.

***Greater Fire Elementals**** *crack* another lightning strikes, and the elementals take the continued lightning attack as a queue to keep tacking this target until it falls, at which point they will try their hand at that shimmering invisible thing close by. Perhapse it was the sound of the lightning, or perhaps trial and error in attacking, but both elementals are now able to see clearly where the Gornych really is ( saves 20 and 25). They take aim and make another round of attacks.

Bosk shakes his head as he tries to stop the room from spinning. Fortunately the darkness eases the pounding in his head while his dark vision and blind fighting ability allow him to move about less hindered. I am a denizen of the Shadowlands, the darkness my second home. I begged you to save the lives of these creatures. When you die, remember that their eradication was your fault, and that you left us no choice. The cleric takes a 5 ft step (to flank with Garret) and unleashes a full attack though his aim is not quite as accurate as it could be.

"Run away, false dragon. We are the Iron Dragons, and we have slain your betters without trouble. We have their scales, their skins, and their power. Leave here and flee with your life."
She casts fear, overcoming the natural spell resistance without much effort. She includes the "Powdered Horn of a Panic'd Bison", a Tinker with magic component, hoping to harness the components captured fear to aid her spell.

The monstrologer heroically resists going blind.
Restlin uses his mage's sword to attack the lizard catching it in a weak spot.
Bosk also manages to resist the effect of the scream. He says he is a denizen of the shadows and reminds the Monstrologer that the shadowlands is his second home. (OOC: Bosk is still grappled by the hand so he can't move to gain flanking but he can attack b/c of his size) He catches the Monstrologer once (OOC: -2 from grappling means only 1 attack hits) with his off hand.
Zane flurries critically catching the Gornych three times, 2 of the attacks causing considerable damage. (OOC: fixed last round; additional 1 of your attacks hit) The dragon disciple has slain the Gornych.
Beri's lightning bolt hits the Gornych's corpse and the elementals confirm its death.
Beri then prepares to heal someone should it look like they are in trouble.
Sesha tinkers with a fear spell to cause the Peluda to flee in panicked. It runs towards the entrance of the labyrinth.
The Monstrologer sees the Gornych fall and says, "You killed Gornych. I do have one last surprise, though, you see I knew you were in the maze and I summoned a monster swarm as a contingency and it is still in effect" and flips a switch on the apparatus again. The last cage is now open and 5 large red and yellow two legged dragon looking creatures, four large two legged dragon looking creatures with dull blue scales tinged with ice and one large muscular dragon looking creature with horns jutting from it's beaked head, and spikes cover its hide even in places on its winged arms flood the arena from the last cell.
The monstrologer defensively casts a spell and disappears. (spellcraft DC 23 Highlight to display spoiler: {Ethereal Jaunt})
Bosk, Garret Perception 23 : Highlight to display spoiler: { you think you perceive some movement going straight down through the floor}

Restlin decides to press his luck (rolled 12 - success, I choose to regain a spent spell). He fishes in his component pouch and finds a group of 15 silver pins...guess he packed extra!
He takes the pins in his hand and tightly grips a glass rod, driving the pins inside. He shoves the rod on the top of his maximize spell rod and briskly rubs a bit of mink fur along the length, taking aim at the lone rift drake. A bolt of lightning shoots forth, striking the drake and arcing to all of the other drakes.
Meanwhile, the mage's sword continues its onslaught on the polymorphed dragon, but somehow can't find an opening in the tiny thing's defense (nat 1).

Tink casts a Black Tentacles spell to ensnare as many of the drakes as she can, and quickly follows it up with a Stinking Cloud
The azatas also do their part.
She notices the monstrologer trying to get away, and draws on her heroic reserves to target him with a spell...

All the flame drakes immediately become staggered. The mage sword misses the lizard.
Garret keeps punching but notices the Monstrologer has slipped through the floor.
Sesha moves towards the Monstrologer dispelling his ethereal jaunt, magic weapon, true seeing and shield of faith. The monstrologer immediatedly pops into existence and plummets 55 feet to the ground taking 15 falling damage.
Tink casts black tentacles catching 2 of the flame drakes and 3 of the frost drakes in the tentacles. The flame drakes are knocked unconscious by the force of the tentacles. She follows up with a stinking cloud. All 5 of the drakes in the tentacles become nauseated. Two of the Azatas try to flank the lizard but all attacks against the hardened nimble creatures miss. The other 2 sound burst at the grappled drakes. The 2 unconscious flame drakes are stunned but the frost drakes are not. She then makes her spectral hand deliver a touch of idiocy on the fallen Monstrologer.
Beri corrals the drakes, wall of tentacles and stinking cloud inside of a wall of thorns. He ends up with a 160 foot box that is 60 ft high.
Beri hits the lizard with a lightning bolt and it only takes half damage and his elementals join the Azatas but only one of their collective slams hit, the lizard does not catch fire and the attack doesn't do as much damage as it should. (OOC: has DR)
Bosk uses one of the scrolls of greater dispel magic to attempt a targeted dispel but the spell is consumed without suppressing the magic item providing the Monstrologer's spell resistance however the Monstrologer's headband and boots are suppressed.
The Monstrologer attempts to dispel the touch of idiocy with a dispel magic of his own but it is not enough to overcome the strength of Sesha's spell.
The Peluda enters the maze in its panicked state (OOC: to go after the Peluda, you too would have to enter the maze)
The lizard continues to attack the Azata that is attacking it (31 vs AC; 13 damage)
The serpent remains trapped in the maze.
The rift drake shoots a ball of caustic gas through the thorns targeting Restlin. The ball bursts into a 15 foot radius burst. (OOC: The mage priest must make a DC 20 reflex save or take 16 damage and be subject to a slowing effect for 4 rounds; 8 damage on successful save & no slowing effect).
Some of the flame drakes stabilize while others keep dying.
3 of the frost drakes are too sick to do anything and the last one bombards the 2 sound bursting Azatas with freezing mist breathe shooting a ball of liquid through the thorns tinging the thorns it passes through with frost until it bursts in the Azata's faces in a hoary mist. Restlin throws a selective fireball at the drakes that are still fighting. He slays 3 of the frost drakes outright as they have a vulnerability to flame. Restlin's sword keeps attacking the lizard but it can't get through the lizard's tough hide.
Zane charges to grapple the monstrologer. He succeeds at trapping the Monstrologer with his mighty arms.
Tink has her tentacles continue to grapple the remaining ice drake. She then dismisses them while her Azatas see to Zane and the lizard. Zane is healed and the two Azatas attacking the lizard both end up striking it, though not at a time where it was particularly vulnerable (no crits)
Bosk bullrushes the lizard attempting to push it back towards its cave. (OOC: the pond was for the serpent trapped in Restlin's maze. This thing came from a cave opening) He succeeds at pushing it back 15 feet towards the cave. (OOC: Yeah you know the Gornych isn't really dead)
Garret moves over to the control panel. He sees a device that has the force cube in the center, 7 switches and what appears to be a gauge. The gauge currently reads 5 and appears to max out at 6. Each switch appears to be labeled. The first switch which is flipped reads catwalk, the second switch not flipped reads entrance, the third switch not flipped reads cave 1, the fourth switch not flipped reads cave 2, the fifth switch not flipped reads cave 3, the sixth switch not flipped reads cave 4 and the seventh switch not flipped reads pond. Garret can either flip the switch off for the catwalk or flip the switch on for the entrance (this would trap the panicked Peluda in the labyrinth) doing this is a swift action.
Sesha prepares to counterspell.
Beri prepares to cast wall of stone if Bosk can push the lizard into its cave. He sends another bolt at the lizard which twists away from some of it. His elementals keep attacking the lizard. The first is unsuccessful but his brother lands two solid blows. However the lizard avoids catching on fire.
The Monstrologer attempts to cast a spell but fails to do so losing it in the grapple.
The Peluda runs further into the labyrinth.
The Gornych twitches a little.
The Serpent remains trapped in the maze.
The lizard attacks Bosk this time but its jaws are thwarted by the Grim Avenger's armor.
The flame drake keeps dying.
The lone frost drake stabilizes.
The rift drake fires another burst of corrosive gas at Restlin. (33 acid damage; slowed for 3 rounds, DC 20 save for 16 acid damage and no slowing)

That rift drake needs to die, but Restlin's unwilling to use any of his remaining good spells. He decides to let Bosk push the lizard around and have his sword attack the drake instead.

The sword of force strikes the Rift Drake.
Garret flips the switch for the entrance on and the cat walk off. When he flips the catwalk switch the gauge goes from 5 to 6 and when he turns the entrance wall back on the gauge goes back down from 6 to 5.
Zane turns the grapple into a pin dealing non-lethal damage as he does so, chocking the Monstrologer unconscious in the process.
Tink conserves her spells also directing her Azatas to heal the party.
Beri tells Bosk he is ready for the stone wall when needed, he then directs another lightning bolt into the lizard and has his elementals press the attack. 3 of their 4 collective slams pummel the lizard and it gets turned into a smear on the floor of the arena.
Bosk was going to continue to push the lizard into its cave but the elementals have killed it before he can. (OOC: The pond is slightly below the level of catwalk, overlooking the arena)
Sesha slays the first flame drake gaining 18 temporary hit points.
The Monstrologer is unconscious.
The Gornych twitches again.
The lizard is a smear.
The dying flame drake stabilizes.

He had hoped the unique creatures could be spared the groups wrath, not 100% sure if his oath of vengeance applied since they were protecting their home, but it seems fate made the decision for him and pointed him the the direction he had to go.

Zane deals some more non-lethal damage to the cleric and then takes to the air.
Restlin loops through the air avoiding some of the acid. He then attacks the Rift Drakes with the force sword and some missiles.
Beri drops a lightning bolt on the Rift Drake while the elementals give the Rift Drake the same treatment they gave the lizard last round, slaying the spiky beast.
Sesha slays the next drake gaining 12 hp and heals Restlin a bit.
Tink has her Azatas heal the party and bestow invisibility on herself and Restlin.
Bosk was going to charge the thorny wall and the Rift Drake but is luckily spared from having to do so by the actions of Beri.
The Monstrologer is out cold.
The Gornych continues to twitch.
The Peluda continues its terrified trek in the labyrinth. You can no longer see it.
The Drakes are either dead or unconscious.
The force barrier to the entry to the labyrinth is currently up and the force barrier to the cells and the catwalk are all down. If Garret wanted to he could pull the cube of force from the device and disable all the barriers.
In 9 hours and 12 minutes or sooner the serpent will come back from Restlin's spell.

Sesha asks if there is a way to turn off the cube, but Garret turned off the cube when he removed it from the device. Sesha remembers how to work a cube of force and realizes that the cube would just manage to encapsulate either Tuar should they use it as each wall of force the cube generates is 10 feet on a side. A medium or smaller Iron Dragon could trap the equivalent of 3 other medium or small creatures with them though so a reduced Bosk or Zane could trap someone inside a cube of force with themselves.
Zane flys over to the Gornych and pummels it deeper into unconsciousness.
Restlin accepts the cube of force from Garret and examines it. He notices that it is just a cube of force. Any abnormal usage of the cube during the battle could most likely be attributed to the apparatus. The mage priest then searches caves 1, 2 and 3. Restlin also activates his lucky find ability.
In Cell 1 the mage priest finds 15000 gold pieces, 1500 platinum pieces, a number of ornate spoons, forks and knives wrought from precious metals (Appraise DC: 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { valued at 15000 gold pieces }) and a number of plates, platters, chalices, and serving vessels also crafted from precious metals (Appraise: DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {valued at 15000 gold pieces}).
In Cell 2 the mage priest finds feathered and quilled exotic wedding outfits for a bride, groom. officiator and 10 witnesses. (Appraise DC:20 Highlight to display spoiler: { each outfit is valued at 2000 gold}) There is also a white robe that radiates a strong varied aura (spellcraft 39: Highlight to display spoiler: { White Robe of the Archmagi}
In Cell 3 he finds a small pile of gems consisting of bright emeralds, sapphires, rubies and topaz. (Appraise DC 20 : Highlight to display spoiler: { There is 12000 gold pieces worth of each type of gem } )
Restlin also finds an acid flask.
Beri examines the Gornych while the elementals and lightning bolt pummel it some more. It occurs to the Druid that he sadly can't become a Gornych because it is a dragon and not an animal.

"There's a veritable fortune in these caves," Restlin announces to anyone in particular. His eye for the finer things in life letting him know just how valuable these things were. He eyes the robe; it replaces a lot of the kit he left behind on the quest. He slips the thing on, finding a flask of acid in the robe's pocket. "Check it out, the robe has a prize inside."
He also pockets one of each ruby, emerald, sapphire, and topaz as a gift for the lady back at the Lord Mayor's estate who was watching his stuff. He makes sure they're nice ones. Any complaints are waived off, "just take it out of my share..."
"We should really worry about that serpent coming back. We've got about three minutes. Anyone have a stone shape spell handy?"

Finally, with a huff, she snatches up the grooms outfit and stomps over to Restlin. She holds it up to his shoulders so she can get a better look. Without a word, she folds it back up and slips it into her haversack with the other valuables she's holding on to.
"It probably can't be reasoned with. We killed all its den mates except the one that ran away and the monsterologer. The merciful path would be to leave it behind and hope it leaves. The prudent one would be to ambush it on it's return so it can't stumble upon us later."
She thinks about it for a moment.
"I vote we leave it behind."

[DM Hugh] - Aftermath Sunday March 26th, 2017 11:51:39 PM Garret climbs down from the catwalk and points out that they haven't found anything regarding the ship wrecks except for the serpent.
Restlin points out the treasure trove in the caves, taking the robe and some gems. He also finds an acid flask in the pocket of the robe. He also remarks that the serpent will be coming back soon and asks if anyone has a stone shape spell.
Zane says that magic is beyond him and suggests just beating the serpent to death when it comes back since it would be the only enemy left. He asks Tink if the girls could scout ahead to prevent an ambush.
Bosk says he has a stone shape scroll but he wants to make it quick because he doesn't want to give Vivian any more time to prepare.
Tink wipes the sweat from her brow and avoids drinking from the pond as it has a transmutation aura coming out of it. She says she would like the rift drake hide.
Beri says he used his stoneshape but they can box the serpent in with stone wall.
Sesha notices Restlin digging through the clothes and sends some disappointment over the link briefly. She starts gathering up treasure of her own but then with a huff picks up the grooms outfit and it holds it up to Restlin. She opines that the serpent probably can't be reasoned with so they can be merciful and leave it behind or prudent and ambush it. She votes for leaving it behind.
Restlin says he isn't dense, this isn't the place or the time and says the bride's outfit would compliment Sesha. Restlin takes the groom's outfit from her and puts it with his things.
Tink asks what are they going to do with the monstrologer and doesn't object to Sesha draining its life force
Sesha says she is full up and that Serenbeth wouldn't approve.
Tink notes that the Monstrologer will be crazier when he wakes up since most of his monsters are dead and that maybe they should dispatch him while he is unconscious.
Zane notes his objection to the slaying of the monstrologer as he is unconscious and won't be coming to for a while. He points out that it would be evil to kill the man and their decision will weigh heavily moving forward.
Tink offers to put the monstrologer under a geas but the serpent will be back from the maze before she can complete the spell.
It took about 2 minutes to gather up the treasures from the different caves.
The monstrologer is still unconscious, the Peluda still in the maze somewhere behind you and the serpent trapped in the maze spell that will be back in a little over a minute.

Tink keeps her concentration on the monstrologer as she strips away every item he has on him. She places them into two piles - those that radiate a magical aura and those that do not. She leaves him wearing only the essentials.
To her way of thinking the monstrologer is guilty of a number of crimes. The party cannot detour to take him back to civilisation, nor is there any other authority that he can be handed over to.
"My vote is that he face Pantheon's justice now. Can anyone Detect Evil? If he has an evil aura then killing him while he sleeps is a merciful death. Allowing him to wake and, in turn, hurt others would not be acceptable. If he is not evil then, he could be given the opportunity to reform"

And even if he was truly neutral in his actions, and somehow didn't know the depth of evil plot unfolding before him, of he willingly and knowingly served an evil master. Not to mention sent these poor creatures of the Wold to die in his stead to defend this evil. That said, if Wardd declares to Restlin that he's not evil I am happy to spare him. Perhaps this man has done enough good in the past to balance out the scales of his soul, or perhaps he's destined to right his wrongs.
...or perhaps Shiny will be called upon to balance those scales for him.

Tink strips the monstrologer of his gear leaving only the essentials. In the magic pile she has : a potion, his full plate, his spiked chain, his cloak, his amulet, his belt, his boots, his headband, his ring and his scarab.
In the non magic pile she has: an acid flask, 2 smoke sticks, water, a wooden unholy symbol of the God's of Testing, water, an onyx gems (Appraise: 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {worth 350 gp}), silver dust (Appraise: 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {worth 25 gp}),a spell component pouch, and 4230 gp.
She votes that if the man is evil they put him down since he could create more monsters and hurt others.
Garret agrees with Tink stating he must not be allowed to recreate his monstrosities.
Zane waits.
Beri points out that it isn't a question of whether or not the man is evil but how deeply he gave himself over to the darkness. He stipulates it could be possible that the man may have done enough good to balance the scales or shiny may be the one to balance them.
Sesha points out that the man may live outside the confines of what others consider right or wrong from her witchy perspective she understands.
Restlin pulls out his holy symbol of Wardd and asks, "Hey boss is this guy evil?" The spell completes and a sensory cone extends from Restlin's sight but the mage priest can tell something is off with the spell. He walks to the monstrolloger & sighs. "Come on, brother," he says before stooping down to lift him. Carrying him over to an open cell, Restlin lies him comfortably down. He removes any holy symbols that could be used for divine casting.
"He's mad," he says to his friends. "Mad as in crazy, not angry. Vivian probably used him to her own ends." Restlin points to the monstrolloger's vestments. "He also serves the gods of testing, including my own." A mix of sadness and anger can be felt over the link he shares with the rest of the Iron Adventurers. "Unless Sesha can fix that madness, I say we lock him up here and return for him once we've dealt with Vivian."

Although the duration is limited, it could destroy the cube itself, or, it could eventually break through the barriers. the cube has already had a number of charges drained from it and I'm not sure how many even remain. It's a good idea but I fear it could be a very temporary one. If we all ready for the monsters return, perhaps we could overwhelm it very quickly?"

Restlin has a moment of confusion before he sheathes Shiny tosses the force cube to Tink and then carries the monstrologer to an open shell. He takes the time to remove anything from the man's robes that could be used as a focus for spell casting. He informs his friends of the man's madness as a wave of sadness and anger surfaces on the link. He says they should keep the man here until they can return.
Sesha tells Restlin she can't fix the man's madness but she can understand it.
Zane accepts the decision and then gets ready for the serpent to return hasting everyone before it shows up.
Bosk says he knows a bit about Madness and says the worse off he is the stronger the magic it will take to correct it. He binds the man and then seals him behind a stone shaped wall with a breathing hole.
Tink is glad that the monstrologer gets to live another day and examines the force cube but says that they could use the force cube but it could be a temporary measure so they should overwhelm the serpent when it returns.
Beri says that an abused creature can be blamed for its owner and then agrees to the imprisonment of the Monstrologer.
Sesha looks at the cage Bosk made and says that it should do.
The serpent comes back from Restlin's maze and then after a brief pause the creature explodes from the water targeting Zane. The damage it sustained prior to it's little vacation appears to have healed. It's massive jaws tear into the dragon disciple (41 vs AC; 53 damage and a single spell effect of caster level 6 or lower affecting Zane is dismissed) Luckily for our heroes Zane's water vest prevents him from being snatched up by the beast.

As the group prepares for the Peluda to come out of the labyrinth Bosk positions himself to the side of the others so that if the monster shoots its quills again or uses a breath weapon he cannot et the entire group at once. The cleric then waits for the creature to lunge forth and retreat so he can attack it as it darts about.

Restlin is annoyed and moves within range of his companions so they can benefit from his aura, opting to conserve his spells.
Tink prepares to cast a spell but does not have an opening. (OOC: The creature doesn't fully leave the water, it just uncoils attacks and then recoils itself, it is so long that part of it remains submerged but you can trap it in the water after it recoils)
Zane quips that he's a chewtoy and then flurries at the beast. All 4 of his attacks strike true but the creatures hide is tough as adamantium armor preventing the full weight of his strikes from affecting the creature.
Beri hits the serpent with electricity and the creature fails to evade the lightning bolt as the druid overcomes its spell resistance.
Bosk prepares for the Peluda to come out of the labyrinth but no creature is forthcoming. (OOC: The Peluda is one thing, the serpent is another, you guys are fighting the serpent not the peluda) but he misses the serpent twice, striking it only with his 3rd attack. He too notices that his sword does not cut as deeply as it should.
After the attack the creature recoils itself back into the water.
The creature lashes out at Garret this time with its bite attack but misses the nimble monk (29 vs AC). Everyone gets another round of Aoppys before it goes back beneath the water.

Beri sends another lightning bolt striking into the serpent but the creatures protection cannot be bypassed (OOC: didn't beat SR)
Tink keeps watch from the height in case something else shows up.
Bosk strikes at the creature multiple times but only hits it on his first attack.
The creature falls unconscious from the combined might of all the blows extended from the water forming a collosal tube from the floor of the cavern up to it's pond. It is stabilized and not dying.
The creature even extended heals some of the damage from its attacks but remains unconscious.

Regeneration typically does not apply to suffocation. Also, we need to separate the limbs and pieces. Creatures typically need them close by in order reattach them. Even if it does not kill it, it will delay the healing process.
Sesha is somewhat pleased she's at capacity for life power from other creatures. Even more so that the life force came from other dragons. For whatever reason, the beating of this creature tugged at her pride a little.
Anyway, she had a headache. She starts summoning some allies again, since Bosk thought it fit to make demands upon her magic.

Restlin informs the others that the only way to put the serpent down permanently is with petrification magic and then advocates moving on. He then joins Garret in looking for an exit.
Zane says to give him some time and he'll make sure the serpent won' t be getting up any time soon.
Tink flies over the water. She sees no other creatures lurking in it but does find quite the haul in treasure. There must be worth over 10,000 gold in coral, pearl and mother of pearl in the depths of the pond and the aura is coming from one of the pearls.
Beri encourages Zane to knock the serpent out further readying his lightning in case the party is surprised by anything else.
Bosk asks if anyone knows if the creature breathes water or air seeing as regeneration does not affect suffocation. He also advocated chopping the creature up into many pieces to make it harder for it to regenerate.
Sesha is pleased she is at capacity for life force and then starts summoning her ghosts to meet Bosk's demands.
After a brief period of time the serpent is knocked out further & slice and diced to make it harder for it to regenerate. The group has also salvaged the last of the treasure from the depths of the pond. (OOC: in the interest of moving things along)

On the upper levels Garret and Restlin notice that the walls in every direction except the south west are covered with various equipment used by the Monstrologer: bell jars, electrodes, reagents, etc.
The south west wall has a larger than life mural of Marteus attached to machine in a large arena on it. The God of Testing has just broken the back of Domi and Domi is dying, looking crushed as if all hope is gone. Marteus himself is looking gleeful caught midturn with a malicious expression on his face as if to say to anyone observing the artwork "You're next!"

Bosk thinks about what he knows of the creature. That thing breaths both water and air. Lets put its lungs, or what remains of them, in a jar of water and gills in a bottle of air. That should help ensure it cannot follow us. I have a few containers in my bag of holding.
The cleric then looks at the pearl and identifies it as a level 6 pearl of power. He then examines the shelves, taking any valuable, rare, or interesting items and reagents and putting them in his bag of holding.

Hmm, if this guy had to resort to electrodes, perhaps he has some other goodies that would be worth borrowing. I wonder if there is the equivalent of dragon catnip in one of these jars, or dragon repellent... he would need something if he was zapping these poor things. Perception=44
When he finished looking Beri looks at the mural Hmm, it could be just a decoration or propaganda, but you never know. This painting could also be related to the mostrologer's mental state somehow, or be hiding some sort of trap. Beri uses detect magic on the painting just in case.

Bosk looks over at the mural. That is rather unsettling. Do you think that was an event from the past or hinting at some grand plan. Domi and Marteaus have been in several battles, but I am no sure I can identify this one.
