Velarin cleans off the heroes with several castings of Prestidigitation; the Wizard's dry cleaning!
Emrys doesn't need to cast a spell to know who is infected, Barratorre, Brom, Edson, and Velarin are all decidedly green around the gills (ooc: and Deathwatch doesn't work that way). So the elf uses the last of his spellpower to cure his fellow heroes. Thank goodness!
Lanliss and Barratorre set the engineering plans while the others collect stuff for treasure and the orphanage. There really isn't much to collect, but they can get what they get.
The tunnels collapsed, the heroes return to Jarlswolf. It looks like Thelonius Bedstraw wasn't ignoring the dangers of heroes moving north on the trail of something bad; because there is a guard team with a lot of torches waiting for the heroes as they get to the warehouses north of Jarlswolf. The sergeant seems to know his business, for quick explanations soon has the heroes at the Pitchfork Council's Jarlswolf Assembly Hall.
Thelonius Bedstraw, in a robe and slippers, makes sure a late night/early morning snack is available for the heroes. Along with him is Brother Daevon, the half-orc cleric of Alemi that normally oversees the shrine at Magpie Crossing. After listening to the battle summary, Brother Daevon asks to see one of the Soul Crystals. "The Sons of Dread were horrible in draining magic from people, and that must have been one of their machines that you destroyed; a job well done. But you said you sundered one of the gems during the battle, yes? I think that means you already know how to release the souls to join with the Woldsblood and go to the Lands of Rest "

Evaris is also feeling the effects of the illness, but being a cleric, he can heal himself. [Evaris casts Remove Disease on himself.]
He listens intently to Brother Daevon. "Indeed, there are many among us who like nothing better than smashing things," he says with a slight smile. "We just weren't sure whether that would release the souls."

"Garth escaped us. He may have fled the area, and he may not have. Should unusual events start occurring, don't hesitate to send us word. Our business with that foul creature is not yet done."
"Shall we get some sleep gentlemen? I believe we are escorting a young lass home to her father in the morning. And we did say we would try and stop by the village near the ruins on the way home. Following that, I'm ready to head home and relax....and split up some goodies.....and then go shopping for more goodies. I think I have some scrolls that need replacing."

Barratore is happy to see the guardsmen and torches about as they return. Good to know the people don't plan to sit on their hands and hope the Keepers can prevent all manner of harm. Barratore seconds V's mention of a weathered eye and not to hesitate to send word if odd things start to occur.
The fighter is always up for a snack and drink and thanks the good man Bedstraw for being thoughtful in that way. He little about the Sons of Dread, but that might need to change. They were here for a very long time and much of their remnants could still be about and used again.
Barratore will certainly assist with the destruction of the gems and then turn in for the day laid out already by V.

Brom will use his BAS to destroy the gems, if that is what they think will release the souls.

"Grub and drink, great." He says at the presentation of food. He takes some of each and a mug of drink before raising his mug. "A drink ta those souls. Find peace in the Land of Rest." he says before drinking his mug in one chug.

Between Barratorre and Brom, the Soul Crystals are destroyed in short order. Emrys is the most sensitive of the heroes when dealing with Woldsblood, and he can see thin trickles of the lifeblood of the Wold entering a nearby Ley Line. Mission accomplished!
Food and drink are appreciated too.
And Evaris takes to heart the old adage, "Cleric, heal thyself".
Thelonius makes mention that the castle has rooms enough to put up the heroes for the night. "The castle isn't a defensive or intimidating anymore, but is pretty good hotel!" And the heroes are able to have a good night's sleep.

In the morning, a frugal breakfast is laid on a sideboard, and the guards have conveniently brought Crystal and Mage Wilcox to the castle as well. Velarin considers going to Witchspawn near the old ruin, but that is in the complete opposite direction to Magpie Crossing, and Crystal really wants to get home. Looking at the rising majesty of Wolf Hill, it will take an easy day's walk to return home.

After a much needed rest from their latest adventure, Emrys starts off his day at twilight where he meditates and says farewell to the stars and hello to the rising sun. During this moment of transition is when he finds his inspiration ... this time in the form of a song that he gently plays on his lute. "Alas, that was beautiful! I think I'll call it, 'While My Lute Gently Weeps.' A fitting tribute to all the souls that had lost their lives before their time. "Maybe they all found peace."
He later comes to breakfast and is pleased he needn't cook. He has a voracious appetite, but he refrains from slobbishly gorging himself like several of his friends.

Velarin enjoys a hearty breakfast, provided both by the castle staff and Evaris.
"Another time for the ruins then. A father and daughter need reuniting. We should head out and return the lass after breakfast. As far as running some errands, I will have a few things to pick up next time we are near the catacombs, but there is no urgency in that for me."

Brom comes down in the morning, scratching all parts of his body as he gives a bit yawn. He grabs drink and food and sits down to the morning conversation.
"Days walk's not that far. I'll come back with ya if ya wanna check out the town." He says to Shephard.
After breakfast, Brom will gather his gear and be ready to move out. Traveling towards home, he maintains a point position ten or fifteen yards ahead of the group.

Emrys, Baslim, and Evaris makes their morning meditations. Emrys, perhaps inspired by the sight of four beetles scurrying across some white alum, makes a wonderful song.
The food is magically nutritious, and a discussion over an easy morning concludes that the heros need to take Crystal home; a sentiment which the dwarf girl readily agrees. She gives Mage Wilcox a hug; he seemed to have tried to protect the girl during their captivity) and the Mage bows. "I'm no longer needed and so will return to my shop here in Jarlswolf. Feel free to visit, heroes of the Valley!" And the Mage walks away.
The travel to Magpie Crossing is easy, only about ten miles to the east, and around the south shoulder of Wolf Hill. The sky is blue with only the occasional white fluffy cloud. It is a perfect day, so it is of little wonder that the road east to Magpie Crossing and then south to where the heroes fought the undead treant "Deathbark" is easy. Soon enough, the trail to Donovan's farm is taken and there is a joyful reunion of Crystal and old Donovan. "Thank ye, thank ye much!", Donovan exclaims over and over, I shed tears of happiness heavy in the dwarf's eyes.

Emrys can't help but feel warm and fuzzy with the reunion of family. It was horrifying what would have happened if they hadn't intervened or been just an hour too late.

A warm and fuzzy feeling wells within Brom during the touching reunion.
"This calls fer a party!" He blurts out in the excitement. "Drink, food, music, more drink. Sounds like a great idea."
Other than a party, Brom thinks a trip to the catacombs to stock up sounds like a good idea. Jarlswolf or Magpie Crossing are fine with him.
He asks if letting Magpie Crossing know about Garth, so they can be aware.

Barratore grins broadly in his typical creepy trying to hard all teeth like smile. it was a fine moment for the Keepers of the Valley. Barratore's ears perk and enthusiastically nods as the mention of a party.
"Yes! A party. All this sunshine and walking has really left me parched!" he declares. His puss sours at the wizard's suggestion of walking back to Jarlswolf.
"Drinks are far closer at Magpie Crossing V. You the old saying...A drink in the hand is worth 2 that aren't"
Barratore is heading to Magpie Crossing. He also hands Donovan a handful of gold coins. "To help you recover from these past few days."

It is nice to see what the heroes are going into danger for; so good people of the land and town does have to.
Most of the heroes want a celebration followed closely by a visit to the Catacombs. And as Barratorre says, both of those are closest in Magpie Crossing. The heroes remember that Maya's shop has a Catacombs. They also remember that Roel likes to keep a well-stocked larder. It is a sure bet the heroes' own home of The Manor will have enough food for even the hungriest belly!
Donovan and Crystal thank the heroes, and Fonovan gives them a pair of smoked ham as a thank you. "Ye return me daughter an make the area a better place. Ye be the heroes we need. "
And with that, the heroes march to Magpie Crossing. ....
The road is easy, the green slopes of Wolf Hill on the left and glittering blue of Magpie Lake on the right. Only an hour's walk takes them to the familiar streets of Magpie Crossing. Smiles and waves greet the team from people at work; farmers and craftsmen, Junior shyly waves while refilling water for his mother the blacksmith; Maya toddles from her store to present a basket of nut muffins; Hmark nods reapectfully as he makes his rounds. Even Emberdown, the Druidic centaur, raises a hand in blessing as Barratorre and the Keepers pass.
The Manor is a welcome sight. Time to rest, to train, to take care of personal matters. Well done! ....
OOC; Thank you for letting me be your DM. The last year has been great fun and I've enjoyed the personalities and selfless heroics of the PCs. Monday will see new DMs, Mark and Damarr and a new adventure. Good Adventuring!
All heroes get 5,000xp and should now be 13th level!
