Chapter 6 - Homeward Bound

The Last Goodbye - Dm Shawn
Monday May 8th, 2017 5:35:07 PM

Murphy doles out the payment to the goblins. Most pocket the coveted coins, some bite them to make sure they're real. All of them are in a good mood. All except Bizig.

He moves towards Alleah.. and slowly and with as little force as possible takes her hand.

" Eh... I didn't know when to bring this up.. but now a bettah time then any. " He i hales and breathes out a rank smelling breath before continuing. " it isn't gonna work. Between me and you I mean. And just so you know.. It me and not you.. but look at it this way... atleast we have the Valley. " the final line is delivered with a soft punch to her shoulder before he turns and walks away.

Most are in agreement that they need to head back to town and let everyone k ow what is going on.

The goblins say their good byes and take their leave(and gold).

Once again it is just halflings standing in the ridgeline.

"Don't worry, Alleah. ''Tis better to have never loved a goblin than to have not loved at all. Or something like that.". Shel grinned at the cleric, quite proud of herself.

She started the long, slow walk home. At least I didn't get dumped by a goblin, she smiles as she takes a look around and enjoys the sun for the first time in quite a long while.

"I know I just joined up, but... my last group would have murdered them all. Gobbos. But that's cool." Lance flicks his head to get a few hairs out of his face. "We're heading back to town?"

Murphy watches as it seems Bizig, too, had been smitten with Alleah, along with Knockhead - Knucklehead. She (gently) rejected the latter, and the former now (gently) rejects her.

He turns away to avoid having his grin be too visible.

He bids farewell to their goblin allies. Turning to those who remain, Murphy says, "All right, friends, let's set out. Put some miles between us and the giants' war valley, and find a place late this afternoon to stop, rest, and refresh. Someone set marching order. Yes, Lance - back to Humble's Ford. You can tell us more about yourself on the trip there, and at least some of us likely will reciprocate."

Just before they set out, the druid looks to the skies. He raises his hands with this invocation:
"Lord Eberyon and Lady Maab, grant us help to keep the blight which giants cause away from the verdant lands of Crescent Valley and the Culverwood. Lord Wardd, help to keep us clever. Lord Alemi, help us walk aright and show mercy where we can. Lady Flower, help us to love, and care for our families. Lord Domi, grant us brave hearts. Lord Pantheon, let us walk in justice. Lord Ffloy, reward our hard work for our valley and our people. Lord Gargul, thank you for returning our friend, Kezzem, unto us, and help him be your faithful servant. And heaven, hear us. We who are mortal petition you who are immortal to help us serve a noble and valiant purpose in our beloved Wold, and to our people, and their friends. Selah."
Once marching order is established, Murphy travels with the Sword and the free halflings. Along the way, he swaps stories with the new group of halflings, asking about them, where they live, how they occupy themselves - as well as delving into family relations, genealogical pathways, to see if some are cousins - even if distant. He also talks with Pressi about her thoughts of the recent happenings, and her role in the group, as he has heard her discussing aspects of that.

Alleah keeps a straight face during her 'rejection' and waits until the goblins are out of sight (and ear shot) before she finally removes her disguise.

Now back in halfling form she cheekily pokes her tongue out at Shel, before sharing a laugh with her "That may be the best disguise I have ever used. But all is not lost. At least I still have a magic pickle!"

To which Bliss can only say, "See, we try to be heroes, and murdering isn't very heroic."

He looks at Mookie and shrugs. "Besides, us little guys have to stick together."

Tuesday May 9th, 2017 9:07:44 PM

The group gives a bit of a razzing to Alleah about het missed connection. Then a mini discussion comes about as to the difference between killing and murder. Finally Murphy gives the blessing before the group heads out.

The woods are very quiet, as if everything is concerned about a certain valley the group left behind... or maybe some other reason.

It's almost an eerie atnosphere.. no birds, no bugs as if all the Culverwood knows war is occurring around them.

Finally, after a few hours of camping.. the serenity is broken. The group hears the sound of a few hooves animals and a group of men trying to talk quietly. They are speaking halflings to one another. Finally coming into site a trio of halflings with two donkeys. They're eyes light up at the site of the Sword and the missing halflings.

The halflings or known from town.. but not known enough to know their names or storys. Their faces are memorable.

" Well I'd be a midget elf... it's the Sword. "

The second halflings steps up.. " The giants?" He asks.. obviously concerned about the actual threat to their world

Shel fiddled with her Warddstone necklace while the group walked, moving it and watching it go right back to its normal position, pointing at the Warddmoon. "Overall, I think the last couple days have to go down as a win for the good guys. We killed some awful giants, rescued some innocents, found out that a Alleah is catnip to goblin boys apparently, and gained a paladin. Perhaps we could do some research and try to find out about Evil alchemists that might give us a clue how to find and finish the thorn in our side once and for all."

"Ah, it's good to see someone from Humble's Ford up here," Murphy says, recognizing two of the three halfling males quite well - and perhaps having only a hazy recollection, if at all, of the third [Knowledge: local: 25, 10, 26 - Shel, Murphy, and Kezzem the only three of the group who actually grew up in Humble's Ford, may even know something more than just their memorable faces - though other members of the group may have come across them more recently].

"Yes, Shel is correct, and Lance. We met with good fortune, and took down the respective leaders of the hill giants and stone giants, plus a few others. What is it that brings you three up this way?"

As he speaks with them, he considers whether their speech and behavior is consistent with what he recalls of them from at least light acquaintance in town, or if there is something 'off' about them. [Perception: 40; Sense Motive: 24]. If something does seem odd, he immediately looks around and listens for any others who may be about, his senses alert for an ambush. The first speaker nods to Lance. " Well met Lance. I'm Zeke Thinpath, that's my cousin Heenan Thinpatg and our co worker Mongo. "

Nothing seems off to Murphy. They don't seem to be hiding anything, an did they were me to they would be some high level rogues. Though halflings do make good rogues.....

The trio don't seem overly familiar to Him, nor anyone else in the group. They might have passed through, or crossed paths here and there but nothing lasting. Their names don't even ring a bell.

Kezzem blurs out he is now a paradin. After a brief moment of awkward silence Mongo blurts back. " what were you before?"

" Nah.. that's ok. " Zeke says to Alleah. " we have some business to take care of out here. "

The trio get taken in with Bliss' story and seems entranced for a brief moment. " Wow" heenan says " you guys saw some real battle."

Zeke listens to to Pressi's question and even seems to wince a bit. " I hate to sound like an opurtunist. But a lot of the other mushroom vendors are scared to go out. We feel we can load up the donkeys and get out to one of the surrounding towns before this clears up and make some extra money. "

" will do Miss." Zeke adds to Shel. " We actually need to stop for dinner if you don't mind eating with us."

"Zeke, Heenan, and Mongo - well met. I'm Murphy. Dinner sounds about right for the time of day. Say, a few weeks ago we had a cart with a bunch of mushrooms we brought up from towards the southern end of the Red Hills. They were cultivated among some of the mines of that area. A bit earlier we came across some giant morels in the Culverwood. Here, let's fix something together. Tomarin, you want to help out? Or have you had enough of fixing food of late?" he asks the halfling who had been cooking for the giants.

"How is it you know of us, the Swords?" he asks the trio. "You are most brave to be venturing out in such dangerous times. We rescued a few halflings from giants on the way up. Would you happen to be devoted to Ffloy?" he inquires by way of conversation. "Whether or not you are, may your efforts lead you to prosperity. Fortune favors the bold, some say."

He mentions to Sky, "Say, you know the camp setup routine fairly well - Kezzem, you too. Would you two like to set up security, trip lines, a fire pit - maybe that first - and the like while some of us prepare something good to eat?"

He helps Sky with the two hole fire pit with the slanted air feed into the sunken hole.

"You know Mungo who runs a book shop in Angel Springs?" he asks this other Mungo.

He also thinks to ask them if they ran into Tendel, the cleric, who left the group just two days ago to return to Humble's Ford, but decides he can ask later, unless someone else beats him to it.

"Being brave doesn't make you opportunists!" Alleah tries to relax the trio "In fact, if you have a decent sack of mushrooms to sell, I'd like to buy some here and now" Nothing relaxes people like the thought of getting some coin.

If she was a gambler - and she is - Alleah would bet dinner would consist of mushrooms, but being polite she simply asks "So... what's for dinner?"

Alleah is happy to cast Create Water to make enough for people to drink as well as wash their hands. She did recently handle a poop-hat after all.

"Ah, now that likely is good news," Murphy replies to Heenan. "Do you know anything about him? What his name is? What his area of specialty in the realms of magic?" Now, the druid does not expect that too much information will be forthcoming in this area, but figures it does not hurt to ask.

He will spend time getting to know better the three mushroom gatherers, as well as the rescued halflings, learning what he can of their backgrounds, their hopes, their ideas for the possible ongoing conflicts with the giants - should the towers still take a while to rebuild - even though they may have won a temporary reprieve. As they sit around the campfire, he asks questions around these themes, engaging his friends as well in the conversation.

As they talk, he works on his elephant harness, and a one point says, "I think it's ready to try." He hands it to Pressi, and explains how it should go on. Then he asks those gathered if they have seen an elephant before. If not, would they like to see one? "Here is my elephant impression. I will be very large, but don't worry, I won't step on any of you. If any of you would like to climb up and sit on top, you are welcome to do so."

He moves to a spot where there is enough room, then wild shapes into an elephant. He let Pressi put on the harness, with the rope ladders on each side - and lets whoever wants to climb up. He will give a very gentle ride within sight of the campfire. After a bit, he will kneel down, allow people to dismount. When all are clear, he shapechanges back into his own halfling self.

He will take first watch, as is usual in recent days. He asks Lance, as he has not objected to the dental plan, where he would like to fit in to the watch schedule.

20:00 - 22:00 : Murphy, Sky, Meko
22:00 - 01:00 : Kezzem, Shel, Alleah
01:00 - 04:00 : Pressi, Alleah
04:00 - 07:00 : Bliss, Mookie, Alleah

He is pleased with the dinner. "Best squirrel stew ever! Thanks!" He wonders why no one else wanted any magic elf food. He liked it. "Don't you guys remember the nice elf lady riding the reindeer? The one who gave out the magic lunchboxes?"

[OOC: And speaking of magic lunchboxes, has anyone else put together a loot list for this module? I'll take a crack at it if no other detail-obsessed player *cough*KIM*cough* has beat me to it. And how much does a magic lunchbox count in gold pieces anyway? :-) ]

Sunday May 14th, 2017 2:53:39 AM

For the first attempt at making the elephant harness, a survival roll of 24 (d20+12). After having some of his friends give it a try, and feeling how it fits himself, Murphy will tweak it here and there, looking to ensure a better fit, reasonable comfort. Also, he has fashioned several other harnesses for other body types, so would adding a little bit (+2 - +5?) be appropriate? He asks his friends how the loops up above - some central, some a little to the left, others a little to the right - work to help secure them, and the rope ladders to each side.

After being in elephant form for maybe 15 minutes, letting friends ride, and getting a feel for the harness, after he changes back to his normal self, he takes some time to make adjustments. As there are trees in the area, he looks to gather some branches, and see if he can augment the system with some woven things to each side to extend the area that wee halflings can rest upon. How many can fit above? Is the ride stable? Comfortable? Safe? He asks Sky whether he thinks they could have a place where Meko could ride. A carrier of sorts?

He talks with Sky and any others interested in a notion he has to travel back to Crescent Valley quickly. "I could cast longstrider, change to elephant form, and travel fairly quickly." (speed 50). "I think that's about how fast Meko moves, right? So, instead of moving at the rate of our own halfling legs, we could cover more than twice as much ground each day. That is, if enough of us halflings can fit on the back of me as an elephant, using the harness."

[Thanks for DMing, Shawn. Welcome aboard, Stephen.]

If I have the time, or if we can hire someone to do so, we can get at least some of the others trained for battle."

"You may be right, Pressi, if the halflings and their gear exceed, oh, eight or nine thousand pounds,* sure, they might slow me up."

Elephant and Humble's Ford. (DM SteveK)
Monday May 15th, 2017 5:54:08 PM

There is a bit of ribbing with Murphy and the elephant by Lance, Kezzem, and Mookie. Bliss is just happy to be away and alive. Pressi is worried about her performance and wonders if she can pull her weight.

Through the evening and next morning, Murphy and the other Humble’s Sword get to know the mushroom hunters and the recent prisoners better.
- Zeke and Heenan are cousins, thin and brown as berries (hair, eyes, and skin). They recently moved from Windhorn Hamlet to Humbles hearing about the Sword and the growing opportunities for Halfling trade. Zeke is obviously the leader of the group and Heenan is more reserved and cautious, but other than that, they are peas in a pod.
- Mongo was from Hovel, now Humbles. Portly, dark hair, green eyes, and tanned, Mongo wa hired by Zeke as an stoic as an expert tracker for mushrooms, truffles, and other forest delicacies. Stoic as a dwarf, Mongo rarely puts three words in a sentence the whole evening and morning.
- Eberulf and Elsia Boffin are a rescued Halfling couple. They keep touching and hugging in affirmation that they are both still here. Rebounding well, the middle-aged couple are originally from Cinnamon Valley and intend to settle in Humble’s Ford.
- Sarama Shortbutton is a quiet young thing, blonde and keeps very quiet. She mentions she is from Hovel and has a couple Cousins that she lives with.
- Odger Twofoot flinches at every sound. Thin and stringy, his intentions are to move as far as possible, with a distant cousin in New Elenna.
- Yodo Proudbottom is a broken man, and keeps crying about his wife, Petunia, who was eaten. He has some relatives in the Traders Corner of Culverwood, and can’t get there fast enough.
- Tomarin Earthshanks was a cook in a merchant caravan attacked by the giants, and forced to cook for them. He is looking forward to getting back to cooking REAL food, and plans to stay in Humbles Ford.

Murphy finds that while his ideas are great, putting them into motion is another story; the ‘harness’ doesn’t work nearly as well as he would like! He doesn’t seem to have the knack to make anything more complicated than a knotted rope and simple hackamore. The knotted rope allows an easy climb (Climb DC 5) to the back of the elephant, and the hackamore allows a Halfling to keep her balance on a moving elephant, but the rider(s) can’t perform any other action other than trying to stay on (See Notes).

While Zeke, Heenan, and Mongo are impressed with the elephant, they have no inclination to try to climb or ride it. “Mushrooms are on the ground”, Heenan says firmly, “and it’s much easier for us normal sized folk to hide from the BigUns too.”

The reaction from the rescued prisoners is something else again. All the shrieking the heroes heard is from the former prisoners, and each bolt to find places to hide! It takes the rest of the evening to get them all calmed and settled down. When morning comes, Odger looks like he hasn’t slept all night, and Elsia isn’t much better off.
…….

The mushroom hunters were suitably impressed by the stories and Murphy turning into an elephant, but they are bound and determined to make their fortune. With friendly waves and cheery ‘good lucks’, they lead their two donkeys away. Notably, they venture further west of the heroes’ backtrail, not wanting to meet any giants!

Eberulf and Elsia Boffin, Sarama Shortbutton, Odger Twofoot, Yodo Proudbottom, and Tomarin Earthshanks are more than happy to get going again. The faster they can get to the protection of the Giant Towers, the better!

And so the Humble’s Sword + Six are off, and by early afternoon, they top a rolling hill and see one of the Giant Towers with scaffolding all over it. Down the hill and into a grove of elm and birch, they cross a brook and up again. Breaking out of the trees, the team sees dwarves hard at work rebuilding the Tower with a canvas awning nearby. Under the awning are a couple dwarves and two groups of Haflings. The first group is Veseley and Tiana with one unknown Halfling. The second group is Mayor Bingo BumbleLuck, Rosco Hornblower, The Baron, and a couple of the Baron’s generals.

……
Notes:
Need appropriate Craft or Profession to make an item. Looking at the Woldipedia, that should be Craft: Leatherworking or Weaving, Profession: Engineer. Or Murphy can look into purchasing the necessary Exotic Saddle.

Severely sloped +5, moderately unsteady +5, = Acrobatics DC10 to stay on elephant. Hackamore gives +2 to Acrobatics check [DM circumstance bonus] which puts Acrobatics to DC 8 and a DC less than 10 requires no check. Other circumstances may make it more difficult to stay on the Murhy/elephant.

Bliss (AC24, HP56) and Mookie (Cayzle)
Monday May 15th, 2017 6:46:08 PM

Bliss has fun scampering all over the elephantine Murphy! [OOC: his Acrobatics is at +20 and Ride is at +11] He practices keeping his balance and shooting his bah from Murphy-back!

"Mister Murphy, if you had wings, you'd be as good to ride on as Mookie!"

"HEY!" caws Mookie.

=== === ===

During the night, lying under a witch cauldron that he props up with a new stick he found, Bliss is sad to hear that Proudbottom fellow crying about his wife. He thinks about if he were still friends with Lord Gargul, he would go over and offer to say a prayer or something nice. But nowadays he is not so friendly with the god of life and death, so he just keeps quiet and thinks about how he wishes he coulda shot more of those cannibals.

=== === ===

At the site of the Tower, Bliss only has eyes for the Second Breakfast Club. He sees the two he knows and a stranger, but he just bets that's the new member. He dashes up and sticks out his hand.

"Hi! I'm Bliss! I bet Master Veseley and Mistress Tiana told you all about us! Are you the new Tower Mage? Do you think you can get it fixed? You're not a witch, are you? I was just thinking the other day that a witch would be a perfect person to fix this tower here. I'm a witch, you know. We witches can tinker with magic and make it do special stuff! Like fix a tower I bet! Well, not me, not yet, but someday maybe! This is Mookie, my familiar. Say hello, Mookie."

Bliss says this last thing as Mookie catches up. "Sorry about the young master," the raven says, bowing. "He gets excited." Mookie whispers loudly, "Kid, Kid, take it down a notch!"

Bliss bobs his head and stands expectantly.

Shel follows Bliss. She too wondered about the Tower, which clearly wasn't ready from the amount of dwarves working on it, but she was also wondering about the new halfling. I wonder where they are from, she thinks, assuming she doesn't recognize the newcomer. Shel fo don't help but wonder how much stronger the new halfling's magic was than her very own. Maybe one day, she could join the club...she thinks her uncle would have liked that idea.

Lance stayed to the back of the group, slightly bewildered by the plethora of names being thrown his way. It had been quite a while since he had left Humble's Ford, and most of the faces were hazy memories. He kept to his usual greeting protocol -- chin flicks for the men, and smoldering eyebrows for the ladies. It usually served him well.

Alleah -- RobC -- AC 19/13/17 -- CMD 13 -- HP 57/57
Tuesday May 16th, 2017 5:08:06 AM

Alleah greets Tiana like an old friend, giving her a quick hug "Tiana, how are you doing?" Alleah recalls the nightmare that the groups faced in Koshe Marr and how Tiana struggled to cope with it.

She then turns her attention to the Mayor "Your honor" "He sure does like his titles!" "We have returned with some refugees. By your leave I would like to send them straight to the Temple to be checked over for injuries, and then to a tavern for a warm meal. They have each been through quite an ordeal"

"Further we have some news on the giants. Perhaps we should speak indoors? We have quite a bit to report"

Alleah eyes the new member of the Second Dinner Club but stays silent on the topic. No doubt Tiana or Veseley will do introductions when the time is right.

Pressi (Melvin) - AC 21, HP 58, CMD 25

Pressi felt the need to comfort Murphy after his attempts with the harness. "It was a good idea. Who knows, maybe we can get such a harness or cart back in town for the future. At any rate, the important thing is that you are getting them home safely, even if it is a little slow for our tastes." She of course has no problem remaining on Murphy thanks to a significant amount of practice. With her acrobatics skill.

Feeling as she does for some of the captured prisoners, she considers some of her own contacts. The bar where she works and lives, the Dancing Pig, might be able to hire a new cook. And she considered some of the other farms and work areas. There wasn't a ton of work in the sleepy little village. Maybe they needed to move on to Angel Springs.

As they arrived, she let Alleah begin the talking.

Murphy Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) AC 20 HP 66/66 CMD 17

Though enjoying his brief stint, Murphy does apologize to those who were frightened about his transformation into an elephant, realizing he had not adequately prepared them for it, and works to calm them down, telling them a bit about the wild shape process. He receives Pressi's good words with a warm hug. [Thanks, Stephen, for rules clarifications.]

Very pleased to learn more about both groups of new halflings, Murphy engages with most of them, asking questions as appropriate, telling them bits about members of the Sword. He asks the cousin mushroom hunters - "Do you know a fellow called Bill Troublefinder? He and his family live in Windhorn Hamlet." Likewise, he asks Mongo and Sarama Shortbutton about Hovel, trying to learn a bit more about them, and speaking of some of his relatives there.

For Yodo, he expresses his sorrow. He asks him about how he met his wife, and gently tries to get him to talk about what she was like, and some of his favorite stories about her. Mourning so great a loss will take time. He offers a listening ear, if Yodo is of a mind to speak. If not, he shares silence with him as he is able - and has him help with a small chore or two at the campsite.

During the journey, he talks to some of the freed halflings, and said that he is certain his family would like to treat them to a good meal.

------
Murphy is astonished to find that Kezzem is able to summon Rumpus to him, and grabs a handful of grass to feed the pony.
------

He is excited to see the building of the tower.

Murphy greets the Mayor, the Baron, the Constable, and the Generals. "Yes, Alleah is correct. Where would be a good place to speak?"

The druid, after speaking with the leadership, also joins his companions in greeting Veseley and Tiana, and introduces himself and those of his companions who have not yet spoken up to the new member of the Second Dinner Club, asking as to how he came to join up with them, and, perhaps, if it does not seem too forward, what his specialty may be.

Debriefing. (DM SteveK)
Tuesday May 16th, 2017 7:19:14 PM

Bliss dashes up and introduces himself to the Halfling with Veseley and Tiana. His usual enthusiastic overtalking is balanced nicely by Mookie's caustic remarks!

Kezzem uses his Divine Bond to summon Rumpus, his divine mount to his side. (OOC: Please add type and stats for Rumpus onto Kezzem's PC Sheet. Your new DM has no idea what Rumpus looks like!)

Shel follows Bliss. The Tower clearly isn't ready, but it is further along than when it was. Her thoughts turn to the new Halfling and thoughts on what her Uncle would one day want.

Lance stays to the back of the group, slightly overwhelmed at new names and people.

Alleah greets Tiana like an old friend. Tiana seems to be staring into space until Alleah arrives and brings her into the here-and-now. The woman has put on some weight and color. "Hello Alleah", she says with some warmth. Alleah speaks to the Mayor and suggests a talk...indoors.

Pressi suggests someone in town can make the harness idea for the team. The altruistic Halfling thinks about where some of the recent prisoners could integrate into Humble's Ford and lets Alleah begin the talking.

Murphy nobly apologizes to the frightened, and, after calming them down, learns that so much time around giants, the former prisoners are frightened about anything larger than Large, no matter how much preparations given. He engages the Halflings in conversation, family always being a safe subject, and most calm down. Mongo shrugs and mentions "They is good", and Samara is too traumatized to properly speak that night. Maybe later... In the meantime, Murphy is excited to see the building of the Tower and greets the Mayor, the Baron, the Constable, and the Generals as well as Veseley and Tiana, and the new member of the Second Dinner Club.

Sky doesn't know any of the important people here in the Ford. He mostly keeps quiet, listening.

........

The Halflings (and two Dwarves) under the canvas awning are very happy to see the Humble's Sword, and handshakes, hugs, and hellos are liberally spread all around. The Mayor nods and Rosco calls for a couple of Halflings to trot up and take the recent prisoners to the Temple. "A good idea", says Rosco, "a very good idea." One of the Halflings that arrives is Broker Iangold, and he leads the charges to the Temple. "Sarabella will be able to calm them even better than I", Iangold says matter-of-factly.

The newest Second Dinner Club is introduced as Garron Von Tenninshire. "I have experience building large magical works such as the great teleportals at Floating City and Plateau City. I had a dream sent to me by Alemi to travel to the Crescent Valley to help rebuild the Giant Towers." He is generally a bit shy and quiet, but pleasant enough.

The suggestion of retiring to someplace else for the scouting report has everyone; tthe SDC, Mayor, Rosco, Dwarves, the Baron and his generals all say "NO!" Mayor Bingo continues. "We are all part of the defense and preparations of Humbles Ford, I see that as true. And your information would be helpful to all of the plans. No one can overhear us over here, so this is the best place." The others all nod and give various degrees of 'yeses'.

Well, that's a strange response to going somewhere private, Shel thought as the group cried out in unison for some reason.

"Good to see everyone again. And nice to meet you, Mr. Tenninshire. Well, the good news is we dispersed what was a huge army of biguns and really biguns. We killed the leaders, so the rest started fighting each other. Kezzem died, but don't worry. He's much better now. Now he's all brave and strong. That alchemist we told you about before seems to have a hand in all this, but we didn't find him.". Shel blurts all this out in a run on throw up of words.

"Good," Murphy responds when the leadership says here and now is the place to report. "As Tendel may have told you, it took us about three days to get to the valley Graeff told us to seek." He pulls out paper, ink and pen, and begins sketching as he speaks - first a general map showing the pathway between the valleys of halflings and giants. "On the way we met and dealt with some hill giants, later on a stone giant and several ogres. We buried them all, off the path." He marks on the map the two locations. "On one stone giant was a note to the leader of the stone giants - Hairshirt, with the leader of the hill giants, Dolp, being mentioned. Pressi, did you bring that back with you? If so, let them see it," he suggests. If she presents it, he lets them read it. If not, he recites the contents from memory.

"We scouted in various ways - through over flights, through infiltration." He starts a second piece of paper, and maps the giants' valley, marking certain points as he mentions them. "On the south side of the valley was Dolp's area, the hill giant leader. Opposite to the north was stone giant Hillshirt's lair. We found several small caves we were able to rest in. While there, a bug-gathering goblin showed up, oblivious to us. We ended up talking to him - after slowing him up when he initially tried to flee. After talking, he introduced us to his friends. Some of us were in the guise of goblins," and he points to a few party members. With a smile, he says, "They found Alleah particulary fetching."

"Turns out, the goblins had no sympathies with the ogres and the really biguns. Their ogres leader had just been executed for food theft, so that left them unsupervised, to their pleasure. They seemed open to throwing off the yoke of their oppressors. So, we offered to help with that task. Long story short, they helped get us to the entrance to Dolp's cave. There, through some negotiation and some fighting, we took them down, leaving alone the goblins and women giants who did not attack us. One invisible spell-casting enemy goblin, whom they called Castor, or Caster, got away.

"Here, my friends will tell you more."

Alleah is glad to see Tiana looking so well. She appears to be more resilient than Alleah first thought. "Hmm, I wonder if she'd like to come out adventuring with us again? Probably too soon to ask."

She is quite happy to see the Broker again "Ian, it has been too long" she greets him with a handshake. She can't help but have a friendly spar with him "Has Warrd blessed the Temple of Ffloy with prosperity today?"

The new member of the Second Dinner Club sure has a lot of experience to his name. He may come in quite handy.

It is then that the decision is made to debrief in the open. "Awww man. I was hoping to do this over a hearty lunch" Alleah hides her disappointment, and can even feel a slight rumble in her stomach. It's been a while since she visited the Pig and after all this time on the road she is really looking forward to a good stew.

"We made allies with some orcs and goblins" Alleah tries to clarify as she turns to look at the party and gives them a telling look "Allies. That's all. Nothing more than that. Just allies."

"Plus we rescued all those people, including Lance here, who has joined us. All the remaining giants and ogres were fighting each other when we left."

Pressi (Melvin) - AC 21, HP 58, CMD 25
Wednesday May 17th, 2017 11:28:55 AM

At Murphy's prompting, Pressi began handing some of the items that had been carried - the note, the papers found in Dolp's and Hairshirt's caves (the uthvas and Gurthax papers, the drawings), the rolls of human skin.

"Unable to get a grip that would start a civil war, we moved to attack both leaders one at a time. Dolp was relatively easy to infiltrate and take down, but Hairshirt proved to be far more ready and of sterner stuff... and apparently had fire and ice giants as reinforcements. At any event, we managed at satisfactory cost to ourselves to put down the threat, and left the camps in the midst of a civil war and potential orc/goblin uprising. We also managed to help the goblins that had aided us, as well as a couple of harems and orc kitchen staff, so you may wish to reach out towards those connections.

"At any event, I was wondering if any of these items indicate further significance. I was considering how the drawing of a woman and one of a wolf might have some significance, in light of an earlier vision. As you recall, one of our esteemed clerics woke in a field having dreams of wolves defeating each other for the right to destroy the forest, and this might not be mere coincidence.

"Also, I could not help but notice a relative weakness through the camps themselves. There did not appear to be any weapons depots, stables or other resources that could boost their physical power. And while their rudimentary strategy was effective against us, they do not appear to have a strategy against the town save to frontal assault us with sheer numbers. Further, there appears to be some fear and ego at play, to the point where we may have been labeled as demons. Such factors may change depending on how Uthvas and the remaining giants view us in the wake of our activities. "

De Briefing. (DM SteveK)
Wednesday May 17th, 2017 9:02:47 PM

The heroes get ready to tell the defense team of Creseant Valley what they have learned, but is momentarily forestalled by Roscoe pulling a sheet from a nearby table revealing-- food! And drinks! Sliced breads and meats and cheeses with pots of mayo, mustard, and other dressings fills a 1/3 of the table. Another third has baskets of cut veggies, whole fruits, and sections of orange or light green melon. And the last third has pitchers of cool water, sweet juices, and refreshing shandys. The Humbles Sword should've known the SDC and Mayor (and Baron!) would never be far from an excuse to eat!

Shel thinks it odd they don't want to talk in private, but looking around she can see it's pretty private right here too. That and that none of the leaders wanted to be left out may explain why they were emphatically against moving the location of the debriefing.

Shel, Murphy, Bliss, Aleah, and Pressi each contribute to the briefing. Murphy's artistic and survival skills combine to make a handy map (OOC: no rolls, so assuming a Take 10) They pretty much cover all aspects about the giant gathering: the leaders they were able to kill (and not kill), the unlikely allies they found, the papers of intelligence, the possible friction points, and the internal fighting that encompassed the Valley as the Sword retreated.

Aleah teases Iangold who shakes a mock finger of shame at the younger Halfling Witch.

Lance keeps quiet and listening.

Kezzem chimes in that he really hates Uthvas. That's a sentiment that all the. Sword and the two members of the SDC can agree on without reservation!

Pressi adds in her insight to probable intentions and the giants overall preparations. The Baron waves his hands about. "They don't need a store of weapons or much ingenuity; they are Giants! A frontal assault is all they ever learn because it usually works!" One of the dwarves scowls at the Baron then looks with grudging respect to the Humbles Sword. "Hate to say it but he's right."

Sky speaks for both him and Meko, offering his intention to help the area in general and the Sword in particular. Roscoe Hornblower shrugs. "Any Halfling is welcome here. As to being with the Sword,," and he waves in the direction of the heroes, "you are gonna have to ask them!"
.....

The papers are handed over, even though there isn't much hope they can give anything else of worth. Murphy and Bliss pored over them and most were rather mundane: an inventory of food, a love letter (ew! Yuck!), a couple pages of scribbles that looked like a hill giant might think is writing, several with drawings of the High Woldian symbol of Marteus... in fact there was only one paper that had anything, a note from someone named Gurthax instructing Hairshirt to go and meet with the Hill Giants to help them organize against the Crescent Valley. The note ends that Gurthax will send further instructions.

Veseley and Tiana seem scared out of their wits that Uthvas was heard from again, and that he was helping the Giants. "He is a worse threat than the Giants!", wails Tiana, and the meeting breaks down in an argument over what is the worse threat and what they should do about it.

Eventually, the arguing not abated, Roscoe edges over to the heroes. "This is going to go on for a while. Why don't you heroes get on back to Humbles Ford and freshen up. I'll make sure the next meeting will be at the Mayor's Burrow at dinner. By then there may be some sense to this hullabaloo.

"Uh, Shel - I think we were invited to dinner tonight. Freshen up, take a nap if you wish - but see if you can make it to the Mayor's house."

"Lance, the Pig is nice. How 'bout if you stop by the burrow for Humble's Ford on your way there - just so you know where quite a few of us will be, then hit the Pig? Pressi does some work for the Dancing Pig. Sky, you want to come, too? It's on the way. If you'd like to meet some of my family, you're more than welcome." He extends the invites to whoever would like to join in - and makes a point to ask Pressi to walk with him at least as far as the Dancing Pig. "Kezzem, I'm sure my mother would love to meet a freshly made paladin." Bliss, Mookie, and Alleah are also welcome to come along.

He does take the time to greet Veseley and the rather agitated Tiana, handing her a clean handkerchief, thanks Garron Von Tenninshire for joining the Second Breakfast Club, then heads out with his friends to cross the river into town, heading first then to the team's burrow, and introducing any newcomers to their friends, husband and wife Hazel and Alouryn; to Alleah's charge Quotiln Lightouch, who helps oversee the household, and to his calico cat, 'Calico.' He lets Sky and Lance know there's a bed available for any member of the Sword. He thinks the other members of the Sword already know this.

Next he heads toward the Dancing Pig, says he'll not be going in at the moment, as he's on his way home. If any come along, he'll take them - his family's burrow and his father's workshop and small barn are not too far from Madame LaRue's Herbarium. Like as not his mother (Bekka Lilly Burrows Leafwin Pipewood) will be there, his father (Samell Fingers Pastna Pipewood) may be out in the workshop, or away on a business journey to Angel Springs, or into the Culverwood, or Hovel. He'll find out. Several siblings should be there. He will make suitable introductions, and his mother will be sure to feed anyone who comes along, and ask them any number of questions, and tell some of her own stories, and keep the younger ones busy with chores.

After a light snack, and checking on some ponies and dogs, and talking briefly with his father, if home, he goes to Slings and Arrows to speak with Hugo and Primula PipeLeaf about riding harnesses for an elephant, for a dire bat, a dire wolf [if he can change into one], and a few other forms he has taken. He explains why, shows them the rig he set up for his elephant form, and describes its shortcomings, and seeks their counsel. "Is there some sort of base riding platform for several halflings which can reasonably be altered to fit different forms of four-legged critters to winged creatures? What elements can be in common, what elements must be custom to the form?" He has made about six different harness / saddle / riding setups to date. He knows something better than his own creations might be better wrought by someone with the skills possessed by the PipeLeafs. If they direct him elsewhere for some reason, he will follow their suggestions. If not, he's happy to talk things over with them, and get a feel for pricing for such flexible, custom work.

Murphy stops by Madame LaRue's Herbarium to pick up a few varieties of tea, chatting briefly with her - she had expressed her appreciation for some of the help he had given her in the past, so he shmoozes a bit, then takes the tea over to visit with the venerable Halfred Humble, to pay his respects. Murphy had heard he either had, or was about to turn 80. He asks after his health, tells him a bit about the doings of Humble's Sword, discusses crops, and whatever else Mister Humble wishes to discuss.

Finally, he returns to the Sword's Burrow, changes into clean clothes, and helps to gather his friends for the visit to Humbles Burrow where the Mayor Bumbleluck lives.

Alleah's eyes go wide at the spread of food. If there is one thing halflings know - it's how to prepare a meal. She fights the urge to tuck in with both hands, and instead tries to remember all the table manners her mother drummed into her. The Mayor and the Second Dinner club were here after all."Knife in the right hand. Fork in the left. Should I use a knife or a spoon with the mayo?"

She eats a modest amount, and would dearly like to take a sandwich with her for the walk to Humble's. Instead she thanks the Mayor, the SDC, and Baron for the spread and politely excuses herself.

It seems dinner will be prepared soon after the group reach Humble's, so there isn't much time for resting. Alleah checks in at the Temple to see how the refugees are going. She trusts that the Priests of Flower will take care of them, but should they need anything else Alleah invites them to contact the party at their home.

In preparing for dinner, Alleah puts on her best clothes - even the underwear with the uncomfortable band.

When there is only an hour to go, Alleah knocks on Shel's door "Time to wake up, sleepy-head. Time for dinner with the Mayor"

"You wanted my analysis and I gave it." Pressi shrugged at the Baron. "As effective as a frontal assault might be, it can be more effective with planning and resources - and have weaknesses without them. I have to assume Uthvas knows that too, but it remains their weakness, though Hairshirt seems to have wised up or had someone explain it to him.

"I can't entirely speak as to who is worse, but motivations are... complicated. Dolp wanted us for our resources. Hairshirt seems to have been driven by ego to extend his territories. Nevertheless, I don't think either would have considered an invasion if they weren't directed. Again, make of that as you will."

----------

"... so I really have no idea if I can even accept what is apparently my destiny as the team rogue," Pressi said to Murphy as they walked. "And the thieves guild literature is of no help. Apparently I can't even think of myself as the rogue until I steal everyone else's stuff while they are sleeping, and I don't really feel comfortable with that."

Pressi took a second to thumb through the literature. "Maybe I can just tie everyone's shoelaces together or something."

Speaking with her employers and dropping off stuff at her room at the Dancing Pig had gone fairly rote, and she could not completely ignore the tension. She knew that balancing her adventuring and work would be tough - it wasn't like she could just swap a hundred shifts. She did what she could to help as a mascot or to help the staff, but she honestly hadn't thought this through and began to realize her employers hadn't either....

At any event, she found herself moving towards Murphy's family's burrow. She tried to remember how often she saw them in town - glimpses really. They sometimes came to visit their relatives in Angel Springs, a family that she had worked for some time ago. But she really didn't have much contact with them otherwise.

"So I guess this is me meeting your parents, huh?"

--------------

As others went to look through family and friends, and as Murphy went on to his other errands, she strolled a bit through the area. There was the training grounds where other rootless halflings were preparing to help stop the giants. The guild hall where someone needed to work on Cameron's and Tendel's various plants and animals. The, uh... guess that was really about it.

Maybe the temple. There really wasn't a temple to Domi to which she could ask about her behavior or the upcoming things. She usually just meditated at the training grounds.

Bliss is happy to eat up! "I almost want to use my magic to get bigger so I can eat more!" he exclaims.

He sees the leaders in disarray. He asks the Breakfast Club folks when they think they might be done fixing the Tower. He talks with his dwarf militia friends, the ones he made that night in the drinking contest, and whose names he cannot recall at the moment. He admires they progress they are making with the tower reconstruction and asks them when they think it might be done. "It sure is super nice of you guys to help us out! I bet it'll be stronger than ever after you fix it."

He confides to his friends, "I kind of wanted to go train at the WLA headquarters, but with the tower not fixed yet, is it safe to leave town do you think?" [OOC: I think the nearest WLA branch is in nearby Angel Springs??]

He also whispers to Alleah, "Miss Alleah, pretty soon I have to find another witch to help us with that ceremony for Mookie I talked with you about. What will we do if I can't find one?"

Well, maybe these small hurdles will resolve ... He and Mookie get cleaned up and changed and ready for dinner at the Mayor's burrow.

Shel answers the door, wiping sleep from her eyes. "Hmm, I thought they meant dinner tomorrow! Well, there goes my plans for the evening. Glad you came toget me or I'd have missed the whole thing!"

Shel invites Alleah in for a second to meet the parents while she washes her face and tries to become the least bit presentable. She didn't even take the time to put on really nice clothes. She found something clean and comfortable and threw it on. "After I get a full night's sleep, I'll try to dress to impress," she laughed as she ran out.

"Ready! Let's go see what new gossip we can find!"

Evening at Humbles. (DM SteveK)
Thursday May 18th, 2017 9:13:26 PM

The heroes have a bit of confusion, is the meeting today dinner or tomorrow dinner? And is 'dinner' lunch or supper? Roscoe Hornblower is a bit embarrassed and after a bit of work with the Humbles Sword, amends his earlier promise. "It's several miles from this Giant Tower to Humbles Ford, and since it is afternoon now, it will be suppertime before you even get to town let alone the town leaders. Let's make it for tomorrow supper time at the Mayor's Burrow."

Shel nods and runs home to check on her parents, as well as making a stop for Alouryn and Hazel. She waves goodbye to the group and looks forward to a nice warm bed.

Lance thinks the plan sounds good. And strolls to the Dancing Pig and orders a menu.

Murphy, the 'today or tomorrow' cleared up, greets Veseley, Tiana and the new Garron before walking with the Humbles Sword towards town. He chats with his friends: Shel, Lance, Kezzem, Bliss, Alleah, Pressi and invites them all to the team's burrow, his on home to visit family, and onto the Dancing Pig.

Alleah appreciates the spread of food. If there is one thing Halflings know - it's how to prepare a meal! She eats a modest amount and politely excuses herself to go to town with her friends.

................

The team leaves the awning and arguing leaders behind and foot it towards Humbles Ford. It is a couple miles walk along the road, and the Halflings are able to appreciate the terrain as it rolls from the ridgeline where stands the mostly repaired Giant Tower, past the well-tended vines and farms, and down to the bustle of Humble's Ford along the glittering river. From their vantage point, the heroes can see across the river, beyond several copses of trees and to the beginnings of the Red Hills that rise and obscure what is beyond to the South. Looking West, the sun is lowering on the green Crescent Valley as it winds upstream to Hovel around a bend. And to the East, more farms and cultivated patches as far as the eye can see beyond which is Angel Springs and eventually to the sea. Nearly everywhere is industrious folk seeking prosperity, the love of family, and peace.

The heroes had arrived at the Giant Tower in early afternoon, stayed for introductions, a debriefing, and a snack, and then walked the couple miles from the Giant Tower to Humbles Ford (ooc: according to the Crescent Valley map). By the time they arrive, shops are closing for the evening, and smells of cooking waft over the gentle breeze. The sounds of joyful cacophony is rising from the Dancing Pig and its rival, the Belly Buster. Visiting is going to have to wait, aside from the taverns or their own homes that is.

Shel takes her leave to see her own parents who are very happy to see their son healthy and happy. As Shel knew, there is always room for another plate at the Kromnite table!

Lance has been away from Humble's Ford for a while, and he is looking to reacquaint himself with the Dancing Pig. (Murphy mentions that Lance can find a bed for free at the Humbles Sword burrow). When Lance arrives at the Pig, it is as if he never left. Greeted as an old friend, there is the same faces, the same food, the same beer! He certainly doesn't need a menu, for he is served the best as music and laughter rings in his ears!

Pressi takes time to stop by the Pig and worries about her job, her position in the group, and her parents; basically everyone and her fear of letting them down. The funny thing is that most of the people around her don't seem to have the same fears...

Bliss is insatiably curious, but he doesn't get a lot of answers as the others are too busy arguing.

The rest of the Humbles Sword is cajoled by Murphy and Alleah to at least visit The Burrow. Hazel is in the side yard, barbecueing. After the hairy hirsute Halfling sees the team, he waves and goes to skewering a couple brace more coneys for the fire. Alouryn, her fiery hair flying, sprints up just as the team gets to the front door. "You're back! (pant, pant) I just got back from (pant) seeing Sarabella, and (pant) there's some good news at the (wheeze) Temple." Quotiln Lightouch is also there, the cat, Calico, constantly about his legs.

The welcome and food are top notch at the Humbles' Sword Burrow. The coneys are roasted to crisp perfection and served with taters, neeps, parsnipss, leeks, and a bevy of herbs that can fill up anyone. And for desert: tarts of spiced apples, savory plums, or peppered cherries! The news that Hazel, Alouryn, and Quotlin have is welcome as well. Hazel has continued his forays in hunting (besides Alouryn, his one true passion) and he hasn't seen anything unusual in the forests and hills south of Crescent Valley. Alouryn has been officially approved as Sarabella's assistant, which confirms the Temple will continue to be used by both Flower and Ffloy in the foreseeable future. And Quotlin seems to be doing well in his farming and supporting the house: he may have actually turned a new leaf!

The heroes are free to spend the evening on activities and get ready for well-earned sleep when they are ready.

Lance cracks his back, cracks his knuckes, and cracks his neck. He crouches, and springs 10 feet straight up in the air! He lands light on his feet and does several flashy kata stances before seating himself and kicking up his feet on a stool. "And make them extra spicy this time!"

Alleah is a little relieved the meeting with the mayor will now be tomorrow. It means she can get out of her uncomfortable clothes now. She ducks out very quickly to change into her comfy clothes.

Alleah is proud to see Quotiln's progress. She decides he deserves some sort of gift; something to help encourage him and to say thanks for all he has done. If the tobacconist is open she sees if she can buy some good leaf and a new pipe - something of good quality that comes in a nice wooden box.

She returns to the house and leaves the box on Quotiln's bed along with a note: "You're doing a great job here, Quotiln. I want you to know that we appreciate the effort you are making. A."

Feeling pleased with herself, Alleah decides to call it an early night. She heads to her room to sleep in a nice soft bed for the first time in quite a while.

Sky and especially Meko are not as used to being comfortable in the bustle of a town, even if it is one as small as this.

They do enjoy the meeting at the burrow. Having eaten little over the leaders argument, they eat hearty at the burrow.

After dinner and introductions they bow out and find a room. Sky takes a nice hot bath, gets him and Meko comfy in their new arrangement and falls into a much needed deep rest.

Meko curls up on a bed next to Sky's, something the wolf has never had the privilege of doing.

Bliss (AC24, HP56) and Mookie (Cayzle)
Friday May 19th, 2017 1:22:18 PM

Oh! When he realizes that the big meeting is not until tomorrow, Bliss takes it upon himself to gather together all the loot and march it off to the Catacombs to sell.

First he makes sure that any items that his friends want are claimed by them.

Then he goes to the local temple and that nice Sister Sarabell. It is grisly work, and since he's not a priest of Gargul any more (not that he ever was, exactly, a priest), but he figures they might have a nice graveyard for the proper handling of the grisly things the heroes brought back for honorable interment. You know, the heads and skin and other gross stuff.

Then most of the nonmagical gear also goes to the Temple, to be disposed of for the benefit of the local poor and so on. It is small enough of a gift, and not worth the bother of hauling to the Catacombs.

Finally, laden down, Bliss and Mookie head to the Catacombs (in Angel Springs?) to make the transaction. He plans to return the next day. He thinks he can make it in time? If not, he'll prioritize being at the Mayor's meeting, of course.

Bliss sees that Sky and Meko are looking a bit out of place. He invites them both to come with him on his errands. "Have you ever shopped at the Catacombs before, Mister Sky?" he asks. "It's pretty nifty."

Kezzem will head to the stable looking to get some barding and other gear for Rumpus. He also stops at the general store for some new clothes as his current outfit is too colorful and needs more black. He will also look around the Buster and the Pig to see if there's a priest of Gargul passing through town. He then meets back up with Murphy, dressed in his new (all black except his armor) clothes.

"You said your mom wanted to meet a paladin?" asks Kezzem. "People usually only want to meet paladin's of Gargul when something bad has happened."

Shel made plenty of small talk with alouryn and Hazel as the group finished dinner. She was glad to see the couple was well and still full of love.

When she had downtime alone, she emptied a good chunk of her magic into her magical staff, trying to get it fully charged again. It had come in so handy against that ice giant that she certainly didn't want to be without its power again.

Morning at Humbles. (DM SteveK)
Friday May 19th, 2017 10:22:49 PM

Lance drinks and eats and carouses the night away.

Alleah eats well and gives a little present and encouragement to Quotlin.

Sky and Meko aren't used to being comfortable in a town, but having a bed for each of them is a welcome experience!

Bliss can't go to the Catacombs or Temple because all the stores are closed. He sleeps the sleep of the innocent.

Kezzem also can't get perform any transactions tonight, so eats and goes with Murphy to meet a well-adjusted family.

Shel makes a lot of small talk and later performs some magical preparations for... next time.

Murphy takes Pressi and Kezzem to meet Mother, Father, and a whole slew of Pipewoods. And a grand time was had by all.

......

Morning arrives, and the Humbles Sword wake. Lance finds himself under a water trough with a blanket tucked around his shoulders. Murphy, Pressi, and Kezzem wake to a hearty breakfast in the Pipewoods household, Mother and sisters stuffing their familial Hero and his froends with food, and love. Alleah, Shel, Sky and Meko wake at the Burrow. A glorious day!

Shops are now open, people are at the training grounds, the Catacombs are ready for a visit. The heroes have most of the day to take care of their personal needs.

Sarabella and Alouryn and Ian are at the Temple.

Kezzem finds, strangely, a half-PrC training with the Halflings at the Training Grounds. A half-PrC with a holy symbol on his chest. The holy symbol of Gargul!

Hugo & Primula PipeLeaf, the best harness maker and leather workers in Humbles are at their shop.

Between eating and chatting and getting ready for supper, each hero is really only going to be able to visit two shops....

FRIDAY POST

Lance rises from his ignoble sleeping arrangement under the water trough, pandiculates languidly, and scratches his head. He ambles into the tavern again and orders corn cakes and cold milk for breakfast. After eating his fill, he makes his way over to the temple and makes a brief prayer to every icon and altar they have. Can't be too careful.

Afterwards he plops himself on a bench and sets about the task of finding the perfect blades of grass to make a whistle. He did not receive a share of the loot from the most recent adventure -- understandable, given his lack of contribution -- and has no shopping or errands to accomplish.

Murphy stays up moderately late talking with Pressi. He is not so excited about heading to his own bed. But he does. He enjoys breakfast with Pressi. And Kezzem. And his family. He asks his folks about what it was like before they got married, and were adventuring together for a bit. And enjoys his eggs, turnips, bacon, toast and jam. "I need to talk with the PipeLeafs about some things. Say, Pressi, have you ever met Halfred Humble? Thought I'd stop by, see how he's doing, if there's time before dinner with the Mayor."

He checks on the ponies and dogs, lets Kezzem know that the pony is his - no charge. He tousles his little brother's hair, and heads out. Since it's almost next door, he pops into Madame LaRue's Herbarium for about three minutes to pick up a couple varieties of tea, overpays two gold for the two tins, then heads out to Slings and Arrows to speak with Hugo and Primula PipeLeaf about riding harnesses for an elephant, for a dire bat, a dire wolf [if he can change into one], and a few other forms he has taken. "And I've got to be able to carry it easily."

If there is time after spending some time at Slings and Arrows, he next takes the tea over to visit with the venerable Halfred Humble, to pay his respects. If Pressi is available, he includes her in the visit. Murphy had heard Halfred was about 80 years old. He asks after his health, tells him a bit about the doings of Humble's Sword, discusses crops, and whatever else Mister Humble wishes to discuss. He wonders whether he knows much about the attacks of the giants a few generations back, and, if so, asks him about that.

Finally, he returns to the Sword's Burrow, dresses for supper, joins his friends for the visit to Humbles Burrow, the Mayor's place.

Pressi returned from the catacombs. Bliss had run into a bit of trouble in convincing the vampire that their gear was worth what was calculated, and that seemed a good opportunity to see if she how much steam she could extract from his head. She supposed she ought to have tried flattery to get more coin, but the steam thing seemed a bigger deal.

It had been a whirlwind of a couple of days. A visit to the team's burrow, a night at Murphy's parents, and a rather late night for both.

With not much shopping needed beyond the catacombs, Pressi turned instead to the arcane libraries. While there isn't much on the way of monks or rogues, Pressi finds the one tome she was looking for: the complete collection of giant works. (OOC: Pressi added Giant to the list of languages she speaks now.) Grabbing it and a few collections on how to make friends and influence people, she makes her way back home.

---------------

Dressed in her fanciest outfit, the entertainers outfit and disguise kit that she uses for work, she meets Murphy at Halfred Humble, willing to at least humor her boyfriend with stories from around.

With him, she makes her way towards the Mayor's place.
