First I apologize for the rather horrid posting lately. I shall do my utmost to right the ship and bring things to norm and back to life in the adventure and going forward

Lornak tells everyone to hold tight and heads out to pick up a disguise kit that each person can then use.
Dusan can and does cast Guidance, before each disguise is donned and adjusted via the kit.
Lornak or Dusan then set about to aid each of the members of The Tide, as common grubbers that might be seen about. While more than minor changes, they do not attempt anything overly dramatic, like a change of race, sex or age

dm note: normally disguise checks are made in secret and only when coming up against the opposing check. For this reason, you cannot redo a disguise. Dm is assuming everyone uses the disguise kit and everyone got guidance and aid another and thus added up to 5 to everyone's roll

Toston heads to meet Mesick and finds the dwarf at the WLA, dressed for battle in a breastplate, helm and with his axe and a heavy crossbow as his more obvious gear. He invites Toston for a drink and soon after downing his, suggests they go where ever it is the rest of Tostons band of merry men are waiting

Dusan Var and Wil decide to head to Tombos. They enter and get the full service of stares and muttering patrons, none of whom are pleased to have such offensive looking and smelling folks near them as they try to enjoy an ale or meal. Shortly after you locate a spot, and folks move away from you, Tombo comes over. His face is one of non recognition and not terribly pleased. "Hey hey hey, there now. You can't just come into good establishments like this". He holds his hands out and shakes his head, Still rather loud he adds, "I've had talks with Tryon and Muier and thought they were making it clear." Tombo then leans in his face hard, but his words and tone become very kind, but soft so as not to be overheard, "you lads come back around to the rear and I'll give you what I'm able." He then straightens and folds his arms defiantly and adds loudly, "Now out you go or it's the Wolves or Knives that I'll be callin"

Wil holds back. He tries not to speak to out about this completely offensive scenario. Cicero is certainly unhappy and is very vocal about it but luckily Will has him locked down.
Wil smiles and adds, "We have money, sir. We are just looking for a quick meal and we will leave this establishment."

The feeling of being a grubber returns as Will begins to frown. "I think grubber may have been a bad idea emotionally," he says in a whisper.

Once in position, he awaits a signal that its time to attack.

Dušan takes some offence at the hostility, but softens at Tombo's offer to serve them at the back. It's more then some would do. Dušan reluctantly stands to leave, not wanting to disturb Tombo's business any more than they had. "Was just looking for a spot o' ale. Thirsty day it's been."

Lornak heads downstairs right about the time the others are leaving Tombo's. He greets them and makes sure everyone is within earshot; "We all look pitiful enough." He admits. "Let's try to act like it. If they rile any of us up don't resist them, simply come back after they have passed". He heads out into the night and does his best to become a non-person and blend into the scenery. Stealth(d20=28). He makes his way to the entrance of the back alley where the deal is going to take place(canal side) and finds some refuse to lay under.

The group all assembles and with some final words of caution and warning, you head out and make you way to the alleyway. Its before curfew as the party splits up and heads out. The homeless grubbers don't tend to travel about well armed in groups.

Getting to the main streets near the alley that leads to the courtyard is not much of a trick. Staying there unseen and unharassed by the fairly aggressive curfew enforcement patrols will be another story.

The meeting is supposed to take place in the courtyard. The canal is in the courtyard. The courtyard is 75' from the main street.

Please be specific with how and where you each plan to hide for the next 6 hours.
If the group wants to back track and head out at night, we can do that as well

Taking the roll of a drunkard, Ethani is not very stealthy at all, but perhaps she is convincing. After all, she's seen more than her fair share of dunks. She takes up a position across from Asteria in the alley way.

"Find a pile of trash to sit on, at least it will be comfortable. maybe."

"Gah, you can't do this stealth thing at all," Cicero said suddenly as Will jerked upward. "I'm telling you. Don't start with me." Will responded angrily. "We have six hours before they get here and we have to hide from the patrols. Can you give me some time?"

I'm afraid I'm not following what the map is intended to show.

Hmerrin waits until 30 minutes or so prior to curfew to head out.
The fighter enters the alley, and heads up 20 or 30 feet or so, looking first for some out of sight ledge or roof space he might be able to get to, second for a hidey hole that he can try to get into and cover himself up with.

Ethani and Asteria take up spots on either side of the alleyway at one end near the street

Var stays out on the street a bit further back and looks for a good hiding place. He locates a few crates stacked nearby, but Var is fairly certain the Patrol sweep after curfew will spot him

Toston heads down the alley and towards the courtyard. Debris lines the alleyway itself, offering plenty of hiding locations. Once the sun sets, it will be quite dark, but for now, he can see the courtyard and the small water channel which slips under the buildings.

Will also heads into the increasingly crowded alleyway and lies down in a pile of trash and does his best to cover himself up

Hmerrin and Mesick are waiting until much closer to curfew before heading out



Curfew sweep part 2 of 2

Hmerrin, Dusan, Lornak and Mesick head out just before curfew. Moving through the streets with Lornak at the lead, the party picks their way carefully. Several times throughout the 30 minute journey towards The Burn, Lornak quickly ushers the group into a dark alley as a Knife patrol round the far corner. The sharp eyes of the group note that the patrol has a pair of large hounds with them. Hiding from people is one thing, but hounds?

Dusan and Hmerrin, Mesick and Lornak try to make themselves as small as possible as the patrol moves down the street. The pair of hounds round the corner and begin growling, at you no more than 20' from them. Just as the Knife holding them looks to call out, a great skunk explodes from the debris in front of you with a hiss and a blast from its scent glands. The dogs and man recoil and the patrol quickly moves away, allowing you to continue

Soon the entire party is together. A similar incident but involving a runaway horse that bolted down the street from the group that took the patrols full attention and lead them off.

The deal should be going down soon, the key now is to not get spotted by whomever is going to come down the alley to the courtyard to make the deal

Lornak is a little rattled from the close call with the Knife Patrol. He is confident that he can easily avoid the curfew police if the night was normal. Being that it is not he pays closer attention to playacting a grubber. Adopting a skitter, he manuevers from wall to wall turning his head as if listening for sounds that are so small that only someone close to the ground would hear them. He finds a pile of particularly fresh garbage and settles into it. He does not actually eat any morsels he finds there but tediously places them in a stash and hides them from the other greedy grubbers around him to save "for later." Eventually he wraps himself in refuse and settles in for the night. (Perform d20=24)

Dušan casts Guidance on Asteria and then Hmerrin if there's time, worried that they'll need the bonus if they're discovered. He shambles to with in 75 feet of the meet to be within Mage Hands range and looks for a nice alcove or crate to settle into and hopes his disguise will take care of the rest.

Cicero is kicking around some dust within his head but staying quiet for now.
Wil watches for anything and is prepared to summon a shadow from his location if something goes wrong.

Lornak settles into his role as a grubber, placing himself among the refuse.

Dusan buffs both and then moves next to the crate by Var. They both continue to hide.

Toston continues to wait along his part of the debris.

Wil stays nearby within the trash.

Ethani and Asteria continue to keep watch at one end of the alley. Hmerrin and Mesick take the other end.

Var doesn't have much in the way of perception but he sees the secret door by the crate. It's easy to spot because it begins to open, pushing Dusan and Var backwards. (Both of you will need to make DC 15 stealth checks to avoid making noise.)

Wil sees almost everything from his vantage point, Highlight to display spoiler: {including unnatural ripples from the water channel, secret doors opening... and movement from the rooftops just above the unstealthy Var.}

"... only to once again have to deal with these crab cakes. I'm telling you, it's unseemly. Ok, lets get this over with."

Out on either side steps out a couple of House Teeth, looking like rangers. Near the speaker is a bard carrying an unusual sack.

With the House Teeth's Whooperwill call, the Merforlk begin to emerge from the water channel. "First the gold, then the crates," the lead merfolk growls. "Slide it to the water."

Lornak watches as any hope of surprise withers as fast as the situation starts. "What are the odds the hidden door the Knives would use would be Right under those two...?" He thinks to himself. He chooses to act quickly by rolling out of the refuse pile. He ends up on his back upon the alley floor, hand on his rapier hilt.

While playacting his tossing in his sleep, he fakes a loud snore; "Hgnnnaaooghghghhhhh!" He shutters.
(Perform d20=18) If there ever was a signal to the others, he decides this would be it.

Lornak continues to try hiding in plain sight, moaning as he moves closer. Laughing, the House Teeth Bard throws a bottle at his head, missing.

The lead merfolk is less than pleased that they are leaving a potential witness alive, drunk or not, but they continue to argue over their transaction, and finally ask to see the goods.

Having made his feelings about charity and bootstraps known, the bard takes an object out of his bag and hands it to the merfolk. "Be careful, even though its dormant. A quick charge and your enemies will be facing quite a hot time."

Most remain silent and hidden, attempting to decide their next move and regreting their positioning. Everyone silently waits.

Her snoring skills are just very well practiced. There's no possible way that a trained warrior would fall asleep on the job. Not at all. She just makes a great drunken sleeper.

Lornak summons all of his willpower not to flinch when a bottle is thrown at and shatters near his head. Thank the Gods, he thinks to himself. He takes a breath. His hope is that the acting would be more of a distraction, clearly the Teeth or Sahuagin are not roused by a few grubbers. That may actually be a good thing. He rolls over onto his side to get a better vantage. He may be a little too late to "react' to the thrown bottle but he is prepared to defend the crates from being moved or taken at a moments notice. (Perform d20=12)

Ethani casts a buff on Asteria, knowing that the proud warrior stands tall in the... are you kidding me? Wake up! Your omniscient narrator commands you.

Toston casts a buff, waiting one more round. Lornak continues to play the fool, hoping for a better position.

Var begins to fall back, preparing to fire but not picking a target. With his perception, he is able to see the rogue standing above, staring straight at him.

Before Dusan can react, a couple of fighters come out. One of them grabs a crate... and stares right at Dusan. "Holy balls of tinsel," he declared. "Why don't you two stop fooling around and stand guard before someone comes and... wait... Why don't you imbeciles carry these crates over and I'll stand guard. Yes, that's much smarter."

The rogue points at Var and starts shrieking.

Wil and his summons attack the bard. His Summons Octopus grapples the bard, just as the tanglefoot bag lands upon them both (I am going to need your summons to make a reflex save). Grappled and entangled, he shouts to his men to kill them all, no witnesses.

"Yeah, we really don't want witnesses," the merfolk leader snarks. "Get what you can and get out!"

Hmerrin fires his weapon at MF2, hitting for 3 damage. Merrick fires his at the nearer rogue but misses. "Gorram it," he growls. "That was my favorite arrow."

Dusan activates his spectral hand.

The bard struggles against both effects but is rather ineffective... except for his bard performance (oratory). He calls out to the group, casting inspire courage +2 on everyone.

TF1 tosses his crate into the water and moves towards Dusan.

TR1 moves to flank, hitting Dusan (barely) for 10 damage + 12 sneak damage.

TR2, unsure of where to go, hops down and starts tossing crates. MF2 and MF3 hop out to help.

TF2, growling at how Hmerrin is in for it now, swings his axe once but can't quite connect.

TU1, the brains, is about to strike Lornak (shanked your perform) with his throwing dagger when Wil emerges. Instead, he engages Wil with the dagger he was holding (nat 1) and immediately slips on the garbage.

TU2 fires his throwing dagger at Mesick and connects for 7 damage.

MF4 throws an entangling net at Toston and manages to entangle him (Rolled 18 against touch AC).

MF1, the leader, growls and throws a bunch of coins at the bard. "Always a pleasurable business meeting," he grumbled as he began to prepare the crates for diving.

Lornak reacts immediately to the hits that Dusan takes from the emerging fighter. As he nimbly maneuvers off the alley floor, he brandishes his rapier and moves alongside his companion. (Acrobatics d20=20, Move action).

He raises his buckler in a defensive posture ready for retaliation from the other fighter. (3 ranks in acrobatics grants +6 to AC in total defense action.) (Standard Action)

Hmerrin ducks TF2's blow, drops his bow, and draws his two axes. Trying to work around the crate and the falling bow, he makes a half-hearted swipe at the guy.

Var angrilly shoots at TR1 and lands 10 damage. TR1 swings back and misses.

Lornak moves to challenge TF1, as Dusan further buffs him. TF1 manages to hit once (despite the buffs) for 14 damage.

Hmerrin fights among the crates, swinging at TF2 but missing. TF2 responds by shoving a crate at him for 9 damage (Reflex DC 15 for half).

Toston goes after one of the merfolk, easily striking for 6 damage.

Cicero loses the grapple but not before he gets in a bite attack for 6 damage. (Somehow, the bard manages to save against the poison.) The bard, continuing his inspire competence, attempts to cast charm person against Wil (risking two AoOs) and succeeds his concentration check (DC 16). "Surely if you call off your creature, we can just... talk."

Wil attempts his best at stealth in the open, giving mirth to his opponents. (To stealth normally, you kind of have to move from cover to cover.) He fires his weapon but misses.

Ethani, realizing what is happening, attempts to hold one of the merfolk but sometimes things go against the tide.

Asteria wakes up, and attempts to spot a target.

Messick roars as he rushes towards TU2, dropping his bow to take out his axe. "Now, shall we fight like men or cowards?"

TR1 drops to flank Messick. "Lets do the cowards thing." TU2 hits once for 11 damage, TR2 for 11+11, 33 total. Messick continues to stand, but he isn't doing well.

Angrily, TU1 continues to chase Wil, missing once again. "Get back here so I can hurt you," he shouted.

MF1 watches as MF2 and MF3 return to the channel with their boxes. "That's it boys, get our goods up and running. And remember what our nice House Teeth friends ordered from us."

To TU1's horror, MF1 throws an entangling net upon him. "No witnesses or loose ends. So, we will be taking our goods and be going. Be sure to give the Silvergloves my regards. Bwah hah hah."

"Oh, you are so not getting a solstice card this year," TU1 shouts.

"You folks have fun surviving," MF1 says to The Tide. "For now. Come on boys, lets ship out."

Hmerrin deflects the incoming crate with his handaxe, but it still catches him in the thigh.

The young lad tries to keep an eye on Mesick, and the merpeople getting away, and fight the guy trying to kill him, all at the same time.

He reacts the only way he knows how in the moment; by unleashing a flurry of blows against his opponent in an attempt to drive him towards the canal. The familiar sensation of chaos rushes over Dušan. The rush of combat had a few major motifs for Dušan. Sometimes it became singular sensation where time felt like it slowed down crystal clarity. Other times the horrors where best kept at bay with wit and sarcasm. This was neither of those times. He was hurt but his allies were worse. With effort he pulls on a Ley Line and sends his Spectral Hand to Wilford and casts Cure Moderate Wounds on the Cleric for 14 HP.

With all that is going on around Hmerrin, the young warrior becomes distracted and his blows miss wide of thier marks

Cierco bites the bard again and vanishes
Will succumbs to the Carm spell and moves off to hide in the trash. Once there, he begins another summoning spell

Lornak strikes the fighter from House teeth several times, but for the most part, the man is able to roll with the blows and partially deflect them.

Toston pusues the merfolk and hits him again, but the blow is quite minor

Dusan sends the Spectral Hand to Heal Messick and the healing washes through the dwarven fighter. (Messick is healed 14HP)

Var steps back fromthe Teeth House rogue and fires an arrow at him, skimming across his shoulder

Lornak loses all of his energy as the axe blade bites deep into his shoulder. The hit is so devastating it blots out most coherent thought. Its as though someone speaks from the far end of a long stone hallway. "You need to heal." the echoed voice calls. Its as though he is watching someone else drop the rapier and reach for the vial of Cure Moderate Wounds. He falls to his knees. He doesn't see or feel the blow that takes his life. He falls to the alley floor as quality memories stretch across his vision. He smiles. His head lands in refuse and his body crumples. His hand flails open and the vial rolls from it. He breaths a single word; "Ethani..."

Toston moves up to assist Messick, but his arcane charged weapon misses

Wil completes the summoning and the octopus appears in the channel. The creature attacks the nearest enemy, the entangled man and strikes twice. The entangled foe grunts and curses
Wil amazingly moves stealthily in to flank the rogue going forward...I goofed as a summoning is a FULL round action. You cannot move more than 5' and then start casting. WE'll roll with it this time
Wil is able to flank and strike the surprised rogue

Lornak falls to a knee and then to the slick cobbletsones. His lifes blood pooling rapidly about him

Hmerrin puts his back to the wall and strikes back. His battle axe and hand axe both cleaving into the coward that just attacked him.

Dusan steps back and uses his Spectral Hand to heal him.

Mesick's axe does not find its mark this time, as the dwarf spits blood and curses at his foe

Ethani moves up and casts a healing spell upon Dusan (Dusan Healed 21)

Asteria steps up and helps Wil. Her Great axe striking hard

The Fighter ignores the downed Lornak and attack the new threat of Asteria, his axe and dagger combination catch her once.

The ranger snarls back at Mesick and with a deft twist, slides his sword into the drafs chest. Mesick gurgles and the ranger then slashes him across the throat. Mesick topples hard to the ground and the ranger turns his attention to Toston

Fumbling with his arrows for a moment, Var misses a beat in combat, but he finally pulls out one of his Flaming Arrows and wheels around on the Fighter currently cutting his way through Lornak. With a muttered command word, the arrow combusts, and streaks through the dark alley at the Fighter (Attack: 25 vs AC; 9 Damage +2 Fire damage).

(OoC: I think I forgot to update my header, I don't remember taking 25 points of damage this combat - think that was leftover from our last fight?)

Toston calls out to his friends, "I think Mesick is hurt pretty bad. Someone heal him!"

He then turns his attention back to the foe at hand, taking a 5 foot step, charging his attacks with magic again and then takes another swing at TU2. He has better luck this time and his sword finds its mark. (19 vs AC; 6 damage) The gnome then heroically lashes out with a focused kick meant to stun his foe for a round (22 vs AC; 5 damage DC 16 fort save or be stunned for a round)

Lornak wakes coughing up copper. His brow furrows from the pain, his eye slits open to the night sky, barely. Everything is spinning. There is motion in his periphery. He manages to turn to his side. His recent memories comes back to him as does the screaming pain in his neck and shoulder. He feels sticky. "Gaaah....!" He breathes. "...that's why." He spits blood.

He hears someone yell something about healing Messick. Just then he feels the familiar warmth of energy enter his body and the pain lessens. Groggily, he stretches out a hand and with a flop and grabs the potion of Cure Moderate Wounds he sees next to him. He downs the vial. (Standard Action 2d8+6=15hp) More warmth.

Lornak sits up and regrets it immediately as blood rushes into his brain. He shakes his head. He decides not to get to his feet now. Instead he slides his hand crossbow out of its place on his leg. "Gotta keep fighting..." he says. "...crates." (Move action) Once again a wave of warmth hits him. "That's my girl." He smiles.

Var fires his bow and hits the fighter.

Toston battles with a mighty and heroic effort, catching the ranger he faces squarely with his blade and booted foot. While solid, the monks blow does not stun the ranger

Wil moves to the still prone Lornak and casts another healing spell into him. (Lornak is healed 16)

Lornak snaps awake and through a few coughs and spit, manages to retrieve a poition and drinks it down. (Lornak is healed 15) No need to roll anything for going -HP. You were healed on the following round and thus, stabalization is not relevant. I have you going from -4 and healed 41 (Wil 16, potion 15 Ethani 10) to put you at a total of 37 of 44

Ethani casts Santuary on herself, hoping to buy herself time and then heroically channels a wave of healing to everyone save Toston and Hmerrin. Heal 10 HP all but Hmerrin and Toston A sickening feeling wells in her stomach as she notes Mesick still body and pool of blood

Hmerrin knows he's in just as much touble as the dwarf and redoubles his efforts. the battle hits home, followed by the hand axe which catches the rogue in the face and cuts clearly through it. Not quite done, Hmerrin levels a back hand at the surprised fighter and catches his squarely in the shoulder

Dusan manages to hold the ley line and delivers some much needed healing to Hmerrin. Hmerrin heal 13

Asteria steps between Dusan and the fighter and attacks. The great axe hits hard and puts the man on the ground, twiching in a spreading crimson pool.

The bard continues to inspire his companions even as he works at freeing himself from the net and finally succeeds.

The ranger entangled with him removes a vial from his bag and drinks it

On Toston, the ranger spins his blades over themselves and leans in with quick decisive thrusts. None, however can find their mark through teh gnomes defences

The bard staggers and sways on his feet, "Friend Wil, defend me. Heal me" he pleas to his dear and trusted ally. The lyrics of Inspiration, however are still sung even in the man's agony.

The fighter faceing off against Hmerrin smirks a bit and drops his weapon. "The better man won this day." he says through amouthful of blood. "I yield to you."

The ranger, now confronted with Toston and Ethani spares a quick glance to the man who just surrendered and blanches. Striking out at Ethani with his sword, he dives into the channel.

Toston moves and strikes the man while he is swimming away. The water turns red, but the gnome knows the House Teeth man is still alive and seems him slip under the building and disappear.

The opponent follows Hmerrin's orders and is soon in a very helpless position. He takes a breath and forces himself to relax. "Make it quick" he says

Var sends an arrow into the man, striking him in the upper left side.

Asteria then charges in and ends him with a great swing of her great axe

The alley is fairly quite. The last sounds of the disturbed channel water splash against the sides of it and somewhere in the distance a lone dog barks a couple times into the blackness
There are no whistles or shouts, the less than 2 minute conflict seems to have gone completely unnoticed by anyone else

To recap [ ... hopefully I got this right ... ] at the end of the fight three foes were left. One dived into the stream and managed to swim away, though with the blood he's adding to the water, if there are any sharks or predators around, he's a goner. One was a nutjob aggro psycho who fought to the death. And the last one surrendered.

Hmerrin and Toston want to question the last foe standing. For the moment, he just kneels prone and mutters, "You guys are the good guys, right? You won't kill me, right? Say you won't kill me. Or hurt me. Right?"

Wilford suggests raising one of the dead. There's no need, really, if the prisoner you captured is cooperative. Besides, it takes no Knowledge of Religion to guess that Lord Gargul does not raise miscreants who attack when caught red-handed, and in fact would likely be angered at such a request. The God of Life and Death has expressed to many adventurers that the hallmark of a hero is destiny, and that being raised from death is a justified nod to that destiny. Such is not the case for either the villains of the Wold, thank goodness, nor for the innocents who perish tragically, but who never had a destiny in the first place.

Dušan checks Mesick over and finds that the WLA guardsman is still breathing, though shallowly. He seems stable but sorely wounded.

Ethani and Asteria volunteer to bring the unconscious Mesick to the WLA chapter house. They promise to send back word via messenger, and then they depart.

Lornak and Var investigates the secret doors. They lead to a hidden chamber that seems to be a dead end. The logical deduction is that the hidden space is a House of Teeth depot or way station, a good spot to prepare for moving things in or out of the city unremarked, or perhaps a good meeting place if one wishes to bring outlanders into Dirt City by water without anyone knowing. There is nothing immediately obvious about the space to suggest that it is a Teeth site, offering a kind of deniability … unless you actually meet House of Teeth members as they are entering or leaving. As you did!

As your adrenaline levels return to normal, you are left in an alley with the defeated dead. And a hidden meeting room. You have not yet thoroughly searched either. Plus, Var draws your attention to the crates left behind, and smartly asks what the group will do if anyone wanders by.

He only sees fear in her eyes as she forces a smile and turns away. Lornak uneasily watches her depart until there is nothing left to see.

Lornak turns back to the group and agrees with Dusan; "It seems we haven't alerted anyone to our scuffle here. I say we drag these crates off the street, stash them and ourselves inside and defend them if need be. Barring there are no surprises we can get out of these disguises and cart them out to someplace else in the morning.

He then attempts to open one of them, if it's safe.
"I don't like how those two left," Cicero says, within Will's head. Referring to the Ethani and Asteria "I have this overwhelming sense of sadness, but they are only doing the respectable thing." Will acknowledged out loud.
"You didn't offer to carry Messick anywhere," Cicero quietly replies. "I don't know the man," Will replied and added. "I hope we didn't do anything wrong." Will frowns then returns to the boxes.
(OOC: Wil talks to the dead or versions of the dead. He does reply to questions out loud causing some confusion at times. At some point he will find a person for every summoning spell.)

Dušan says farewell to departing friends and then mentions getting out of sight.

Toston retrieves his wand and questions the prisoner. The man is broken and clearly willing to talk, at least to a degree. "This here area will be safe enough if you go in and close the doors. And we can talk too," the man says, nodding to Dušan.

Lornak agrees, and with some work, soon the crates and boxes and corpses (oh my) are hidden in the storeroom. You are all inside.

Var worries about moving all this heavy stuff. Sneak around after curfew? Boldly carry it all in crowds? And to where?

Wilford gets to it, searching the crates. Mostly the crates are armaments, tridents, underwater crossbows, spearheads, etc. Some of the gear seems better made than others.

Hmerrin checks over the defeated foes.

Several detect magic spells and some study later, you have a decent idea that this was indeed an expensive shipment of goods.

Who knows, maybe they make peace and turn on us? We got plans to whack the big mouth before he blabs in front of a crowd of top guys."

He keeps his senses tuned to anything outside that will require the lot of them to be silent.(Perception d20=24) "We will find a cart or something to wheel the crates around." Lornak says softly to Var. He does not want to divulge any planning to the prisoner. "I thought for sure they would all have been filled with those elemental gems." He pauses to listen to the interrogation. "Which means, we still have to figure out who's making them and where they are..."

Toston and Hmerrin direct sermon and snark at the cowering prisoner, who is in no position to disagree. And knows it.

"Oh, yeah, right," he says. "That's what I meant. Those bums should't oughta been double dealing. That's ... um ... unmethical."

Wilford wants to know about the gems. And who is the target of the assassination plot? Aided by Dušan's Touch of Glory, the One Who Speaks To Shadows is about 30% more compelling than usual.

Var concurs. He too wants information about the target of the planned assassination.

The prisoner is eager to spill the beans in the hope of proving his value. "Yeah, gems, I got no idea, not my thukton. But I know all about the squealer."

But seems he got cold feet ... um, I mean, he got an attack of the goody-too-shoes ... um, I mean he um came to his senses and decided to do the right thing. Right. Thing. So he decides he has to blab to the wrong people -- I mean the right people -- and put the kibosh on it all. You know, for the good of everybody and because it was the um methical thing to do. And here's the kicker -- he's got a magical music instrument, what when he blows on it, everyone all around him can hear him clear, and magically know that he's telling the truth. And he's an expert at saying the truth the way he wants it. Well, him and his magic whistle are just a rooty toot toot away from disast -- I mean, from saving Dirt City. From itself. "So the Staffings are handling the bargaining, then back out? Are they tied to a house? This Sell-Sea needs to answer for his part in this, but I don't think assassination is the solution if he was breaking ties. It sounds like he might help us get the Sahuagin to take their trade elsewhere."

"You know I had this Staffing problem once, while I was a grubber. The guy just wouldn't show up at all. I know they are the best around here but that one experience tainted everything Staffing wise."
Will added. "Now Dirt City thrives of the buying and selling of weapons. I'm not super concerned with the tridents and the other weapons but these elemental gems. Those, we have to do something about. They could destroy the city."

Lornak is able to follow along with all the the prisoner spills regarding local talk but once he gets into the specifics of Sell-Sea he gets lost. He kind of gets the gist of who the man is but cannot gauge the prisoners attitude toward him. He is glad at least Var can confirm he isn't lying to them.

"What we did with the last guy." Lornak says, insinuating that they offed him.(Bluff d20=15) He isn't very convincing even to himself.

Toston wonders if the fellow is telling the truth. Toston wants ideas on what to do next, without offering any ideas.

Dušan wonders about the implications and asks a follow up. Well, it seems that the Staffing Family generally works for the House of Teeth, and they were a part of the dealings that the House tried to pin on their patsies, the Dunkels. Dušan says maybe this Sea-Sell Staffing should NOT be assassinated, but instead used to stop the dealings with the Sahuagin. [OOC: Dušan please accept 250 xp as an award for proposing a plan of action!]

Wilford is more concerned with the gems. The gems!

Hmerrin waits and sees.

Var wonders what to do with the prisoner. He offers no suggestions. The prisoner in question says, "Please, just let me go! I swear I won't tell a soul. And if you let me go, I got one more gem of information that you really need!"

Lornak bluffs a threat. Whether the prisoner sees through the bluff or not, he acts like he believes it! He drops down and blubbers. "Please! Don't kill me!"

For Those Who Are Confused -- Recap From A Fellow Who Is New To The Game: The way I figure it is this: There is this Mer-Sahuagin War, right? And the House of Teeth is selling weapons (and maybe these elemental gems) to both sides. And since this would give them a bad rep if the word got out, they tried to blame these Dunkel folks. You guys don't much like the trade with the Sahuagin nor do you want the Dunkels to get blamed. You want to stop the dealings with the Sahuagin at the least. Maybe you want to stop the Mer trade too? And you think this gem trade is crazy dangerous, and you want to stop that too.

OKAY! It is decision time!

DECISION ONE: What Are You Doing With The Prisoner? (1) Kill him. {2) Let him go. (3) Keep him captive. Make sure you vote, and maybe give your second choice too!

DECISION TWO: What to do with the loot? I assume you are going to keep it except for a half share to the WLA guy you hired on. WHO VOLUNTEERS TO GO SELL IT IN THE CATACOMBS? Anyone want to keep any of it?

DECISION THREE: What's Next? (1) Hole up, rest, recover, and then start a PLAN. (2) There's no time for that! Leave now and start the plan! (3) Go Hole Up and wait for the DMs to give you something to react to.

WHAT'S THE PLAN? So far we have two goals on the table: (1) "This Sea-Sell Staffing should NOT be assassinated, but instead used to stop the dealings with the Sahuagin." (2) Figure Out What Is The What With The Gems!! And put a stop to it now!

Are there any other plans? Friends, I hate a slow pace game, so let's make some decisions!

Toston says to the prisoner, "If we let you go, what will you do? Will you stay in the city or will you leave? We'd really prefer it if you'd leave and we will escort you to the ship of your choice bound for elsewhere."

To his friends he said, "I'd suggest we start out first thing tomorrow trying to figure out how to get the Staffing guy to flip and get to the bottom of the elemental gem trade. Someone has to be making them, but who? We could always ask Three Bits."

"I have no issue with letting the prisoner go. He can only do good things for us. He will likely tell some about the fight and the success we have and also he will be grateful for our generosity. He will not last long, if he goes back to the Teeth. Likely, killed for being a spy or something so he will not come back at us."
"I agree with Toston and would like to prevent the sale of these gems and I'm tired and ready for a nights sleep."

Lornak answers for the prisoner in a matter of fact manner(Intimidate d20=21); "He will leave town." He says. The mention of Three Bits makes him cringe.

"We keep the healing potions, vendor the rest." He then palms one of the Cure Moderate Wounds.

"I'm with Toston; regroup and start in the morning." Lornak intends to gather the whole party, especially Ethani and Asteria.

He might give us the final bits of information on Sea-Sell namely when where and who will attempt once he's confident we won't deal with him unjustly. (1). "What's yer name, son?" Var asks, fixing the prisoner with a level gaze, as he tries to assess if he indeed does have more information to give the group (Sense Motive: 16).

If Var thinks he's lying:
Var says "Well, it's like this... We let you go, there's nothin' stoppin' you from goin' an' roundin' up more of yer friends. Now, that's gonna make me proper mad, havin' t' kill them, too..." (Intimidate: 10)

If Var thinks he genuinely has more useful information:
"Why don't y' go ahead an' tell us what ya' know, an' maybe that'll help keep all yer 'bits' still attached..." (Intimidate: 10)

After the prisoner has said (or not said) his peace, Var continues. "Now, what I think we leave y' here, tied up an' gagged, an' someone will eventually find ya." Var says as he removes a length of rope from his pack. Assuming there's no objections, Var will go ahead and tie & gag the prisoner, and tuck him in a corner of the alley, but if someone has a better idea, Var will hear them out first.

"Alright then." Var says, coming back to the group. "I'm in favor of headin' back home, 'fore any patrols happen to find us. Then we can split our loot proper, and figure out how we stop this 'She-Shell' bloke from gettin' wacked."

Toston suggests to the prisoner that he wants to leave town NOW. Wilford and Dušan agree -- and Lornak agrees fiercely.

The prisoner nods and solemnly vows by Wardd's weskit to leave immediately forever without saying a word to anyone, lest his tongue fall out his mouth and rot.

But before the prisoner leaves, Var wrangles one more bit of info out of him. Johnny Shark, as he gives his name, is of the opinion that Sell-Sea likely plans to make an appearance at the next meeting of the Prince's Working Committee on Threats. That's the one that considers threats TO Dirt City, not threats MADE by Dirt City. They have a different working committee for those.

[OOC: I'm assuming you trust this guy's vow and let him go, without tying him up. He'd see that as a death sentence, and he'd likely be right.]

Wilford proposes sleep and then the gem situation in the morning. Dušan is on board with that. Toston suggests Three Bits, and despite a few eye-rolls, no one has a better idea.

Hmerrin is to tired to contribute much to the decision-making. [OOC: You can still post tonite or tomorrow for it to count as this week I think?]

You head for safety and get some needed rest. In the morning, it is time for breakfast, spells and prayers, and the Catacombs. By midmorning, you find yourself meeting with Three Bits.
