Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (7/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17
Tuesday August 15th, 2017 8:27:21 PM

[ooc: Not my official post but... do we need to hit a specific spot for the ropes to get up or just hit the wall? Asking for a friend. :)]
(Dm Matt: I have no issue with you just hitting the wall ;)l

Rolth Niheow (MarkBat) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+4 x3 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: None  d20+2=17 ;
Tuesday August 15th, 2017 9:40:39 PM

Since he has already been seen, Rolth thinks that this seems like a good time to start negotiating. He looks at the vials in either hand, carefully chooses the Potion of Speak with Plants, says, "Bottoms up" and swallows the brew. As an opening gambit, he hollers, "My Lord the Prince, that is no way to treat a friend of Cassia! We just came here to make a trade. What say we discuss this like the noble creatures we are at heart?" (Diplomacy = 17)

[Perception=14, Stealth=9]

Tsak was about to launch into his favorite drinking song and try to lead the creature a merry dance around the garden, but Rolth's gambit takes him by surprise. Negotiation! Huh, who would have thunk?
Finnian seems to be quite taken with something about that hedge too, wander what?

Tsak abandons his plan to soothe the creature with his delightful voice (for now) and decides to stay where he is and stay quiet to see what will happen next.

(Perception roll is to monitor the intent of the creature and be ready to lead it away or run to the aid of Rolth, Stealth roll is to not distract the creature whilst Rolth is trying to negotiate with it. Nothing to see here...)

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None
Tuesday August 15th, 2017 9:51:50 PM

Kiwina debates with himself whether he should be doing this or not, as he heads off into the maze away from the direction the others are in. (With a double move, he should be able to make it to AC7/AD7 if this is 5' scale.)

I don't dare show myself, i am to slow to avoid. Best to stick with my plan until something worse happens.

Falco remains in his position looking for an opportunity to act.

Maybe I need flame spells.

This hedge is an illusion Finnian calls to Rolth.

He then throws caution to the wind and bolts for the lower corner of the hedge. When he gets there he hides in the hedge and peers arond the side to get a look at the creature.

[OOC double move diagnol to W31 and then a stealth=26 to hide in the hedge.]

He tries to make a plan of how he might go about getting a rose of the topiary, as well as what sort of creature it it is. [knowledge nature=23 arcana 23]

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 15 - Topiary Fight - Round 2 (Co-DM Matt)   d20+8=27 ; d20+4=5 ; d20=16 ; d8+2=5 ;
Wednesday August 16th, 2017 9:09:24 PM

Rolth attempts to communicate with the topiary and the creature growls, “Get out of my garden!” He is very indifferent and hostile to everyone within the garden but you can hear a collective sigh and discussion between the flowers within the flower bed. They seem to be very worried that the topiary is going to trample upon them or pull them from the ground but the effect of Rolth starting a conversation is noticeable as it becomes irritated.

Tsak Rezar is about to sing but thinks twice about it. He watches as the topiary prepares to fling another nut in his direction. (Perception: 27 to Tsak’s Stealth DC: 14)

Finnian tells the group that the hedge is an illusion then bolts over to the lower edge of the hedge just outside the center of the garden. He is pretty darn stealthy! He thinks the Topiary, distracted by Rolth and Tsak, does not notice him?

Kiwina really thinks about what he wants to do but makes a double move. (U6?) (OOC: If the map is correct I have you at V7 with 100’ double move.)

Lomocia, startled and perhaps alarmed by the size of the plant creature, backs up to the wall and gets ready to climb up to the balcony. (J10)

Sable takes a step to position himself to reach down and help Lomocia.

Falco stays put, hidden behind a hedge near the balcony.

Gothruk wants to move to G25. However, there is a 20 ft drop to the ground from the balcony. Slow option: He could climb down, as others have. Fast option: He could jump down, likely taking damage. Medium option: He could dangle and then try to land on his feet. The last two options could end up hurting ... make an Acrobatics check to decrease the damage.

After Gothruk lands in the garden, he can move and explore. But in that case, is he moving quietly? Stealth check? Is he looking around? Perception check? [OOC: I’ll adjust your map position after we figure out how much move you have. My best guess is that Gothruk will be able to move to say 16G?]

TOPIARY ACTIONS: Another nut is flung at Tsak! It hits 16 vs Tsak AC-14 and inflicts 5 damage. Rolth only Highlight to display spoiler: {Stay out of my garden or prepare to be destroyed. You are only interested in my treasure. }

Rolth steps carefully into the illusory hedge (ST26-27) to hide from sight (move action) and takes a look around for anything interesting, like say a rose, before considering continuing his negotiations. (Perception = 27) Assuming he sees nothing of interest, given that Finnian has already passed through, he directs his next speech to the talkative flowers in the flower bed after trying to suss out their motives. They are plants however, so it may be a little tricky. (Sense Motive = 6) "Well, if Prince Ursinine isn't interested in adding to his treasure, how about you lovely lot in the flower bed? What wonderful colors! Is there anything that we, the Eight Petaled Rose, can do you for you, you lovely blossoms you? Why. we're practically cousins and all. All we would ask is if you could direct us to the Rose that Hollyhocks asked us to fetch. We would be much obliged and at your service." (Diplomacy = 12) All the while he keeps a weather eye on the topiary, and adopts a Total Defense posture for a +4 dodge bonus to AC.

Ow, that stings! Hey mister, the garden is for everyone, naughty corner until you learn to share.
Tsak moves to L21 and tries to hide a little more behind the hedge whilst keeping the Topiary in sight.
He's prepared to take one more hit for the team to give the others time to figure out where the rose is and how to get it.

(OOC I've noted the -5HP on my character sheet)

[Cayzle comments: Woldian tradition is to note your hp status in your header. That "12/12" is super misleading to your poor DMs!]

Finnian creeps along the hedge trying to move quietly along the edge. [stealth=11] as he moves he scans the area looking for any other signs of roses maybe in the other flowerbeds. [Perception=21]

"keep it distracted, please keep it distracted" Finnian silently pleads to himself.

Lomocia runs to K16 but stays hidden from the beast behind the hedge. She wants to be closer to Tsak in case some healing is required. She shouts to Tsak for him to be careful and to fall back as need be.

ADM BatMark OOC
Thursday August 17th, 2017 6:01:38 PM

OOC, I am sure that Lomocia didn't mean the formal "run" action in Pathfinder terms, but rather a normal move action, since she moved only 30'. We got in trouble once when someone wrote "charge" when they really meant "advance quickly." Just trying to clarify :)

[Cayzle Comments: No problem. In the turn recap (under construction, awaiting S and G), the DM refers to her action as a "dash." Although with no enemy anywhere in her line of sight, a "run" action would not have had any negative repercussions anyway.]

Gothruk already climbed down from the balcony last turn.
He'll make Perception checks as he moves around.
(for last turn Perception=24)
(for this turn Perception = 9)
He'll stay near where I'm guessing he is around G25, if he isn't already there then he'll attempt to move there. He'll feel along the hedges, brushing his hands through them, he heard calls that there were illusions so maybe one of the hedges here is an illusion too?

Rose Quest Day 15 at 9 PM (Co-DM Cayzle) Second Garden
Thursday August 17th, 2017 8:10:07 PM

Rolth steps into the illusionary hedge and looks for the rose, but there seemed to be nothing within the magical image of a hedge. The topiary reacts loudly, though, roaring, as the liontaur moves out of its line of sight.

Rolth wants to speak to the flowers, but he does not really have much line of sight to any, and besides, he’s 30 feet away from the corner of a bed over there behind him. Maybe he should get closer to have a more effective shot at some communication skill check? Anyway, although he is hidden in the illusion, Rolth nonetheless takes up a defensive posture.

Tsak Rezar, somewhat injured, shouts at the topiary and then moves out of the line of sight to L21. He is prepared to be bait while the others search for the Rose. Of course, it is hard to both hide out of sight and play bait at the same time!

Kiwina moves to AX7. [OOC: No worries, I was using an old map. Sorry about that.]

Falco changes position and moves to L15.

Finnian creeps along looking for a sign of Roses in the flowerbeds. He moves to X26, trying to be quiet and unseen. He sees no Roses in the beds, only Lilies, Amaryllis, Petunias, and Sunflowers.

[OOC: This is a good learning moment for us. To use the Stealth skill, you HAVE to have either cover or concealment at the end of your move. You can dash from one bit of cover/concealment across open space to end move in a different bit of cover/concealment; that’s called “Breaking Stealth.” But if you end move out in the open with no cover/concealment, then you are AUTOMATICALLY seen by any foe with line of sight. In this case, Finnian is ending move in the open with no cover/concealment, so the Topiary notices him, no matter what his stealth check.

BTW, If you START your move out in the open, you can only use stealth if you (1) Use the Bluff skill to Create a Diversion to Hide and then (2) end move in cover/concealment.

If at any time you attack, you CANNOT use stealth for the rest of the round, except when sniping. Well, ok, and with greater invisibility]

Ending move out in the open, 20-odd feet from the Topiary, Finnian’s quick examination of the first two flower beds reveals no broken stems or flower petals. It seems the Topiary can move through the beds easily and without damaging them. If you make a Survival check vs DC12, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You can trace the path of the topiary from impressions it has made in the soil between the first and second flower bed. The signs suggest the Topiary has been pacing. }

Lomocia dashes to K16 but stays hidden behind a hedge. She shouts to Tsak to be careful. Maybe she should be giving that advice to Finnian!

Sable watches the flower beds, but from his distance, he sees only the wild variety that Finnian has noted, without the detail.

Gothruk moves south.

--

The topiary eyes Tsak carefully but immediately finds Finnian behind him. It turns, moves on vinous legs to X-Z-22-24, and slams an ursinish green paw down into Finnian with a 10-foot reach, inflicting 7 damage. Death stares at Finnian through green leafy eyes!

Another blow like that will put poor Finnian down for the count ... What will he do? Go down fighting? Bluff the plant and then dash to a hiding spot? Use the Withdraw action to try to get away? And what can his friends do to distract the monster or aid their sorely wounded and slightly foolhardy friend?

And The Map!

Rolth hears Finnian scream in pain as the great green bear beast swats him, and calls out, "For Domi's sake, withdraw!" He then moves (move action) out of his hunting blind, to N-O-31-32, which he figures will allow him to talk to the flowers while being ready to charge back in support of Finnian if the beast chases him around the corner of the hedge. He then readies (standard action) his flamethrower to attack the topiary if the beast approaches within 10 feet.

That done, he renews his effort to sweet talk those lovely blossoms in the flower bed. "Hey, my lovely floral friends, can you help us out? We are the Eight Petaled Rose, and our friend Hollyhocks sent us here to bring back a special rose for the Taurnament. Can you tell us where in the garden we might find it? We'd be happy to do you a favor in return!" (Diplomacy = 6, hopefully they are already favorably disposed to us!)

The blow sends Finnian reeling. He is bruised and bloodied and knows that he is very near death. He hears someone call out and he starts running back the way he came. Not sure of direction he attempts to put as much distance between himself and the topiary. [ending at Q31]

[Survival=12] He doesn't have time to figure out what he saw back there, maybe if he can un-cloud his mind he might be able to make sense of it.

At Tsak's movement closer, Lomocia says, "Tsak! That was quite a vicious acorn you took back there, I'd surely be out of commission if that had been me. Unfortunately I can only heal once per day and poor ole Finnian sure looks like he could use it. Hide back here with us to avoid any more stray nuts!"

Rose Quest Day 15 at 9 PM (Co-DM Cayzle) Second Garden
Friday August 18th, 2017 7:44:23 PM

Kiwina continues his transit of the perimiter of the garden, with the total cover of the hedge to shield him fron sight.

Rolth is wise to urge Finnian to withdraw from the dangerous Topiary, but is he wise to leave the concealment of the illusion? Would the illusion even work agains the Topiary? It does have eyes ...

Rolth moves to a flowerbed and has a quick chat. He finds their capability for sentient communication to be limited. “We like the sunshine!” one flower tells him. “Don’t step on me!” says another. The liontaur’s words seem to mostly go right over their colorful heads. Still, one phrase has resonance, and several flowers repeat it: “Special Rose! Special Rose!” Other flowers also take up the words. “Special Rose!”

Tsak Rezar moves to Lomocia and Falco to request healing. The elven bloodwitch urges him to hide and decides to conserve the healing that she has.

Falco and Sable are quiet. [OOC: If I get the chance, I’ll update after they post.]

Gothruk moves toward Finnian, ending move next to Rolth, and stepping in the flowerbed heedlessly. Rolth hears the flowers: “Ow! Oh! Ow! Stop!”

As for Finnian himself, he smartly determines that withdrawal is the better part of valor here! He races south with a double move, rounds the corner, and heads back west, straight toward Rolth and Gothruk! [OOC: I calculate that you can actually move five feet further than you thought you could.]

[OOC: You can draw up to 8 goodberries as a move action, and eat up to 8 as a standard action.]

--

The topiary immediately pursues, rushing south and then west to chase Finnian! The bulk of it is ungainly, and it loses some ground rounding the corner. But it is in full pursuit, and it is coming straight for Finnian, Rolth, and Gothruk! Oh noes!

"Stop attacking us, or face the fiery wrath of Tomi!" If the flamethrower is used, it automatically hits, and does 1 point of fire damage (1d6 = 1)

[Acrobatics=20, I was going to vault it, and I could have made is but I don't know how it would be with the others in the square] He had a flash of memory, something about yelling "Hail Domi" as you step out into the sun. Gothruk will move around to flank the beast as well as give Rolth room to retreat if need be. He'll use a double move to go up and across to 24Q.

Gothruk is frustrated at feeling so indecisive, he feels a frontal assault doesn't have much chance of succeeding but that he can't let the monster move around freely wounding his team mates. He had noted that both Tsak and Finnian were sporting large wounds. Hopefully Rolth's fire will have some effect, if not he'll have to decide to charge forward or try and get further around the beast to find the Rose, the actual focus of the challenge.

Sable shouts a warning.

Kiwina continues around the garden to BI30 and looks through the gap in the hedge. He is not able to see too much but is able to reason that the gap between the hedges is wide another to slide into and through, using the squeezing rules.

Falco is prepared to use the Ray of Enfeeblement of Color Spray on the topiary and moves to M20.

Tsak Rezar and Lomocia want to stay out of the way but also useful. He moves to N23. Lomocia moves to L22.

Gothruk moves north and then around a hedge, emerging up at 24Q. He tries to come up with a strategy that will not get him killed.

Finnian has some excellent footwork and makes it through the flowerbed without touching any of them. The flowers seem to chatter, excited. If they had hands they would of clapped at Finnian’s performance. He moves to H30. Making that double move leaves him no time to dig out his goodberries this round.

Rolth asks about the special Rose but the flowers, in this location at least, seem to be stuck on the chant about the special rose -- until they begin to panic as the topiary gets closer. Rolth moves to QR 32-33. He readies the flamethrower and warns the topiary.

For its action, the topiary moves closer! Rolth’s readied action kicks in, and the Topiary gets flamed! That startles it, and it then immediately stops. A small section on its side is on fire for a short time. The topiary beats the fire out.

And The Map!

Falco advances further [J23] and attempts to hide again waiting for the creature to move in range or to move closer next turn. [Stealth: 26]

Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC15 (T13/F12) 7/12 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Status: None
Monday August 21st, 2017 8:16:25 PM

Tsak moves to R25 to see for himself what is inside the mirage.
He wanders if this area is somehow linked with the one near Kiwina?

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None
Monday August 21st, 2017 8:52:28 PM

Kiwina spends the round squeezing through the path in the hedge, trying not to damage it, to end up at BC29/BD30.

Rolth Niheow (MarkBat) (18/16 HP | AC: 12; Touch: 10; Flat: 10; CMD: 15) | Glaive +5 1d10+7 x3 | Paws (2) +3 1d4+2 x2| Status: Raging  d20+5=24 ; d10+7=8 ; d6=2 ;
Monday August 21st, 2017 8:54:36 PM

Rolth is extremely angry that his clever trick did not do more damage to the topiary. He is enraged, in point of fact. (Free action to enter a rage) He whips his glaive out of his holster, and begins to prune this insolent hedge. (Standard action attack = 24 to hit with his slashing weapon, for 1d10+7 damage = 8hp if he hit) All the while yelling what sounds to the other PCs like "I am Groot" but which the Speak with Plants potion translates as "I always hated weeding the Tomi-cursed garden, you jumped up juniper bush!"

OOC: Normally, it takes a full-round action and a DC15 reflex save to extinguish alchemical fire, although I of course defer to the DMs if some other factor is at play here. If it does burst back into flame, it would be another 1d6 damage (2hp)

Lomocia (Koby) (HP:6/6; AC: 12; Touch: 10; Flat: 10; CMD: 10)
Tuesday August 22nd, 2017 10:55:41 AM

Lomocia moves to N26. She wants to get close enough to be able to hit the topiary with a spell or two to aid her companions.

Gothruk Gore (Logan) AC 12 (T11/F10) 12/12HP |Guisarme +3 2D6+4| Status: None  d20+3=23 ; d20+3=15 ; 2d6+4=13 ; 4d6+4=24 ; d20+3=9 ;
Tuesday August 22nd, 2017 1:05:38 PM

Gothruk takes a single move action to 28Q and attacks with his Guisarme. 1D20+3=23 A Crit!
Roll to confirm = 15 (weather this gets a +2 because I'm fighting a huge creature I don't know)
If I hit it takes 13 damage, if I have critically struck the creature then it takes 24 damage.

If it moves away or otherwise Provokes an attack of opportunity then the 9 attack roll is what happens. I don't think that'll hit so I won't roll for damage.

While Gothruk had been feeling indecisive before, Roth's attack has settled it, he would stand besides his friends in battle... or at least diagonally while trying to trim an angry hedge-monster.

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:4/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'  d20+5=23 ; d8+1=9 ;
Tuesday August 22nd, 2017 2:47:01 PM

Finnian seeing that Rolth is standing between him and the topiary stops fleeing and instead side steps and points an arrow at the topiary. [H33] "I really didn't want to do this," he says, and reluctantly lets the arrow fly. [attack=25] [damage=9]

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern
Tuesday August 22nd, 2017 3:46:28 PM

Sable says, "You guys seem to be doing as well as we could help in the gardening arena - but I do believe it is a different rose we seek."

Sable stays, ready to help others make a hasty retreat if needed back over the wall.

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 15 - Topiary Fight -9:30 pm (Co-DM Matt)
Tuesday August 22nd, 2017 6:46:57 PM

Falco stealthily creeps to J23. [OOC: Keep in mind that to use stealth you need cover or concealment. You currently have the concealment of the hedge that is between you and the Topiary. If it comes round that corner, you will have no cover. You, as a small character, CAN gain concealment in the flowerbed but ONLY if you are prone.]

Tsak Rezar circles around Gothruk and ends move within the permanent illusion. He COULD have the concealment necessary to hide from the Topiary Beast, but he is not trying to be stealthy. He finds nothing within the illusion.

Lomocia moves to N26, closer, but still with a hedge between her and the melee.

Sable calls out a bit of snarky advice but stands ready to help if flight is required.

Kiwina squeezes through a gap in the hedge and ends move near another permanent illusion. He has not stepped into it, he makes no effort to be stealthy, and he is in clear line of sight of the Topiary. It sees him.

Rolth sees that the Topiary’s efforts to beat out the flames in fact were not completely effective. It takes another 2+1 hp damage this round [OOC: Sorry for the confusion.]

Rolth attacks! He inflicts 8 hp damage on the Topiary.

Gothruk marches south and attacks! He hits with a critical confirmed! [OOC: If I’m reading your die rolls right, that’s 24 damage, but please put your damage rolls and details for all your rolls in your post, rather than make the poor overworked DM have to peer at your roll results and guess!] Gothruk hacks away a major branch for 24 damage!

Finnian lets fly and shoots the monster with a missile that flies right by Rolth and embeds itself deep in the monster’s eye! [OOC: It nits either way, but unless you have the Precise Shot feat, remember to impose a -4 when shooting into melee, please.] It takes 9 more damage!

Topiary damage taken:
4 hp fire damage (took an extra point)
+ 8 from Rolth
+24 from Gothruk
+9 from Finnian
45 damage total!

The monster made of leaf and twig shudders convulsively! And collapses to the ground!

And there is no need for a new map. Look at the old one if you would like: The Map!

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None  d20+3=5 ;

(will save = 5)

Kiwina reaches into the illusionary hedge next to his position in an attempt to disbelieve it, and is surprised to find that it seems pretty real. Surprised by this turn of events, he looks to see what the others are doing with the remains of the topiary.

Rolth Niheow (MarkBat) (16/16 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 16) | Glaive +3 1d10+3 x3 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: Fatigued (1/2)  d20+7=20 ;

(OOC: Rolth's rage ends, resulting in 2 rounds of fatigue)

Rolth's fury dissipates with the downing of the topiary, and he looks about a little sheepishly. "Heh, sorry fellas, I got a little carried away there. Finnian, you ok, buddy?" he asks. He then starts poking around in the shredded greenery of the topiary, looking for a special rose, while also keeping an eye out for when the topiary comes back to life just like in all the ghost stories they used to tell around the campfire at night back home. Not to mention that we saw it and the garden heal up once before. (Perception = 20)

Tsak, happy that Rolth has the topiary situation under control (for now, it has healed before), decides to head for the part of the garden where the topiary started to see if there is a special rose in that vicinity.

Falco stairs in disbelief at the destruction the group caused. "That was most impressive guys. Makes me feel a little silly for sneaking around so much I guess. Though I agree we should not linger longer then needed."

Falco looks around for anything that could aid the others in healing {ooc: there was mention of goodberries}

Knowing that he is too hurt to be sceptical of the elf Finnian limps over, battered and bruised to accept healing from Lamocia. "I can't believe I helped take down that creature, though it did attack first"

"Rolth," Finnian croaks "Thank you for intervening, I could be dead. Can you still talk to the flowers? Are they okay?"

[ooc I do have precise shot. I moved because I wasn't sure how the cover rules work. I also have a question about how combat knowledge checks are handled. I know many GM's do it differently]

He'll ready an action to hit the beast if it moves.

Rolth’s fury dissipates, leaving him tired. He apologizes and then begins to poke around within the topiary for any special roses. The topiary does not move, the roses dotting its body come off easily, some falling to the ground without help.

Tsak Rezar heads to W20, but finds only the rows of flower beds layered in red, white, and blue flowers.

Sable suggests searching the area where his true love is represented. The hedges in the center of the Garden obscure a view of Kiwina.

Falco is impressed and suggests they not linger.

Lomocia moves closer to Finnian and asks him to move closer so he can heal him. [OOC: feel free to cast and roll for your cure. Note that we reroll 1s on curing dice in the Wold.]

Finnian steps over and accepts the healing. He thanks Rolth and asks if Rolth and still talk to the flowers. The CL5 Speak with Plants potion lasts five minutes, so there is still time left for the spell.

Gothruk sighs and advises they concentrate on finding the flower.

Kiwina reaches into the illusionary hedge on the other side of the map. His hand disappears into the hedge. The hedge looks whole but the leaves and branches are not there.

[OOC: The behavior of the “illusionary” hedges does not follow what you would expect of a mage’s spell. There is no mental component to convince you to believe or not. The image does not fade if you “disbelieve.” Rather, it is a foolery of light, and Kiwina can reach in ... and does.]

Kiwina feels something within the hedge. Poking his head into the illusion, inside he sees a Rose in a small vase on a pedestal.

Rolth will take a rose from the topiary as a decoy, should any without attempt to ambush us. He will tuck it in his normal belt pouch, peaking out the top. Hearing Kiwina call out, and seeing that Gothruk is keeping an eye on the topiary, Rolth will move to support, just in case something untoward happens, ending in Y-Z-31-32.

"Ahhh," Finnian lets out a sigh of relief, "Thank you. We haven't had much chance to get to know each other, so I thank you for healing me as you did. We must make time."

Maybe she can tell me of the elves of this Wold. All I really know is what I was told about mother, and if this elf's generosity is any indication of how they truly are, then maybe my kin aren't as bad as I have been led to believe. Finnian ponders this as he wonders over the the flowerbed that he had leapt over and checks to make sure he hadn't accidentally crushed any of them.

Kiwina finds the rose as Rolth takes one of the fake ones and hides it within his normal pouch. He then moves and is watchful for anything to happen.
Sable keeps an eye out as Tsak Rezar and Falco head back to the wall and climb up.
Lomocia heals Finnian for 6 HP and heads to the wall. Finnian is relieved and ponders a bit while watching the flowerbeds

----
Once you reach the top the balcony and pass through the corridor to the exit, the gate opens and Jaynce stands with a centaur. The centaur wears a blue uniform with medals hanging from the pockets. Badges decorate a large part of the centaurs chest. A red sash crosses his chest from left to right.
“Eight Petals, this is Chief Stallion Khab, head of security for Scribner University.”
With that the Chief stared at the group and then smiled. “Good job, Eight Petals. Superior fighting, as a retired soldier I respect that you were able to complete the task with everyone healthy. I’ve heard nothing but good things about your discipline and values. Did you retrieve the Rose?”

Rolth double checks to make sure that they are still in a place where they are allowed to speak, before bowing and replying in a calm voice to the Chief Stallion. "Hail Domi, we have been so honored. As we are by your compliments, Chief Khab." Rolth is feeling pretty good about the way things went, with his WLA buddy Finnian bravely scouting, and his Bridge Island friend using the distraction to gain the prize. Not to mention the coordinated work of the others to back each other up, and Gothruk's mighty blow.

If we are in a no-speaking zone, Rolth will merely bow and nod in the affirmative, with a warning gesture to the others to remain silent, just in case this is some last test.

The chief waits till everyone says, or doesn’t say anything and then adds,
“From the look of things it was a battle but it’s quickly returning to normal. Did you win the Rose?” the centaur is a bit blunt.
Perception vs DC 14 Highlight to display spoiler: { If you look around you notice that the topiary is missing, likely has returned to its pedestal. The hedges and flowerbeds have returned and are no longer trampled. }
“I do not want the Rose, just want to see it.” The chief moves abruptly and steps further into the Garden. The metal on his chest jangles and he paces just a bit then stops. The dryad at the gate waits patiently as does Jaynce.
Sense Motive vs DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { The chief seems to be a man of great character but lacks a bit of faith and patience in others. You get the sense that his motivation is just to prove that you have accomplished the task.}
“So I have heard that you have a great interest in a dryad named Amarantha. With proof of the Rose I am willing to grant a pass to visit this dryad.
Knowledge: Local vs DC 7 Highlight to display spoiler: { It will take three days of travel to reach Amarantha’s village. }

Tsak keeps his silence. In fact, now that the adrenalin has worn off he's quite sore. He wanders how long it will take to visit Amarantha, and whether he can find somewhere to buy a healing potion, or whether the mages can afford to use spells over the next few days to bring him back to his normal, hearty self. These thoughts distract him and the words of the chief fall on deaf ears.

I would love to discuss the island and this garden with someone more in tune with the Wold than myself," asks Finnian.

If there is time while we look for a boat or wait for a boat Finnian will spend all the time he can in the presence of druids or greenmages.

He listens and when Sable speaks he interjects. "It would be a days travel there and back it would seem. I would worry about the lost time. We have come 2/3 of the way it would be a shame to run out of momentum and time."

Rolth asks Kiwina to show the Rose and consider travelling to see Amarantha.

Kiwina shows the Rose to the Chief, Jaynce, and the dryad and all three look at it in awe.
“Beautiful rose,” Jaynce says.
“Very good,” the Chief says. “You may put that away. The pass I give you will allow you to travel to Fort Damastes. Present this pass to the guards and they will allow you in.”

Tsak is a bit distracted while Sable expresses some interest in heading to Fort Damastes to see Amarantha.

Gothruk, Falco and Finnian and Kiwina have reservations about heading out to see the Dryad and possibly missing several days.

Kiwina and a few others ask whether the pass can be used later.
“As honored guests of Centaur Isle you are welcome to use that pass any time. Jaynce, allow these adventures to stay within my quarters.”
With that the Chief left and Jaynce smiled.
“If you would like to stay the night,” she begins. “I will show you to your rooms. They are quite large, as one would expect of a large race such as we are, and you will not really be sleeping with him. He has a large residence on the west edge of the University here. Tomorrow, after you rest, we have shops that will have potions available if you still need to heal. You may also discuss anything with the shop owners, druids or mages in the morning. Everything is currently closed for the night.”

She pauses, “That is … assuming you would like to rest for the night?”

Rolth thanks the Chief before his departure, then turns to the Petals and Jaynce. "I think it would be a good idea to rest up for the night, and we should be safe from nefarious competitors in the Chief's quarters, after all! Jaynce, assuming my comrades agree, would you be so kind as to guide us to the quarters?"

Assuming that is our course of action, Rolth will also take the opportunity to glean additional information from Jaynce. "Do you know whether we can catch ships to Liontaur Isle and thereabouts in the harbor below? And do you have any idea who could recommend a fast and sturdy ship with a good captain? And what was up with that guard, trying to get you in trouble?" (Diplomacy = 21, plus any potential bonus for our general hoopiness and having saved Jaynce from the guard's annoying behavior.)

Kiwina agrees to resting up before seeking passage. Then, trying to keep too many thoughts in his head (as usual) he asks Jaynce, "Did we see your son outside?"

Tsak bows to the chief and puts in his vote for a rest.
He follows the crew to the chief's quarters for the evening.
He will try to find a little food to put in his stomach, allowing him to rest easier, then settle in for a long, healthful slumber.
To be honest I'm torn on the question of visiting the dryad. I would not like to jeapardise the taurnament. But also I'm concerned that we may get caught up in other events, especially if we are victorious, and the chance may not come again? What say we visit the dock in the morning to secure a boat, then decide about the detour?

I doubt any work that happens after this will be as time dependant as our current task. And it seems especially unlikely that we won't be coming back here. Gothruk will share with the rest of the group.

"I think we should continue you on with the Taurnament. I understand the intrigue that the Druid presents but we have no real idea what awaits us. We could end up cutting it incredibly close." Lomocia also votes to rest up.

Finnian may not be as hurt as he was, thanks to Lamocia, but he certainly doesn't wanting to go off exploring this night. He follows the group to a bed where he can rest his weary head.

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 16 morning (Co-DM Matt)
Tuesday August 29th, 2017 7:54:22 PM

Rolth thanks the Chief and then turns to the Petals and Jaynce, "I think it would be a good idea to rest up for the night, and we should be safe from nefarious competitors in the Chief's quarters, after all! Jaynce, assuming my comrades agree, would you be so kind as to guide us to the quarters?"

Janyce answers Rolth’s first question, “The captains usually park their boats at the dock just before dawn in the morning. I will have to think about who may be able to help you. I’ve never been off this isle and very rarely venture from the library grounds.”

She becomes embarrassed while addressing the second question and adds weakly that the guard was an ex-boyfriend. She had kept the relationship and it’s ultimate end quiet. She managed to avoid him till today. She apologizes.

Kiwina asks about Jaynce’s son. It takes her by surprise. “Why, well, he is fine. My mother cares for him while I am here. It is kind of you to ask!”

Tsak Rezar settles in after a meal. He suggests, “To be honest I'm torn on the question of visiting the dryad. I would not like to jeapardise the taurnament. But also I'm concerned that we may get caught up in other events, especially if we are victorious, and the chance may not come again? What say we visit the dock in the morning to secure a boat, then decide about the detour?”

Sable adds, “Why don't we also see what our options are for fast travel.”

Gothruk says, “I doubt any work that happens after this will be as time dependant as our current task. And it seems especially unlikely that we won't be coming back here.”

Falco, Finnian, and Lomocia agree to a night’s rest. [b]Falco suggests searching for a boat in the morning.

You find that a table of food has been placed in your new quarters. The Chief, as Jaynce says, stays in the largest house, elevated above the other, smaller houses. The compound seems to be a fortress with many of these smaller houses designed for dignitaries. “The Chief is a diplomat for the centaur race and often has guest within the compound,” Jaynce explains.

She politely bows and exits, unless there are further questions for her.

That night, you rest and heal. Natural healing restores a hit point. Is anyone injured at breakfast?

In the morning, you find that Captain Cecil and his holey ship, the Herald, is still in port. He has been unable to convince anyone else that his ship is sea-worthy!

Rolth wishes there was a way to quickly see Amarantha, but sees no way to dramatically shorten the three day trip (and then presumably back!) to do so. He agrees with Gothruk that we can always come back another time, and commits to do so to Sable, if a better solution for his bow cannot be found.

Meanwhile, Rolth is excited to see the Herald still in port, because he assumes that it being lifted by the elementals will allow it to cross the dangerous shoals that we are headed for, and it is certainly fast! He proposes to the party that they once again ride aboard this eccentric vessel. If folks agree, Rolth will try to arrange a good deal with Captain Cecil for transport to the Shipwreck Shoals for the next stage of the Taurnament, and thence back to Liontaur Isle. He will confirm with the Captain that his ship is capable of safely landing on the treacherous eastern-most isle in the shoals. (Diplomacy = 21)

Waking up stiff and sore, the walk down to the docks helps ease some muscle tension, but Tsak is only feeling marginally better than yesterday. He is happy to see Captain Cecil and would be eager to engage his services again for the trip to the shoals, although he would understand if others are less eager.
He also wants to discuss healing with Lomocia and Falco, both in terms of improving his current condition, and something to carry for future situations.
If one of you is willing, I'd like some help to scour the compound for a pick me up that could be used in the heat of battle. I've about 20GP to spend. Any suggestions?
And to Sable I too commit to returning with you to see the dryad, as I think we would be wise to complete the taurnament at this time.

Before agreeing to take the Herald that day, Kiwina tries to assess whether the ship is restful enough for Tsak to heal normally (heal check = 16). If he decides that it is not restful, he will suggest taking a day to rest and let Tsak heal, If the group stays, Kiwina is willing to provide long-term care to help Tsak, and will look for the necessary supplies in the market.

If the ship is adequate for Tsak to heal normally (1 point per day), Kiwina will try to aid Rolth in his negotiations (diplomacy = 15 to aid Rolth).

Waking down to the docks, Lomocia can see that Tsak is still quiet sore. "Come here and let me see what I can do about this", she says as she beckons him over.

When he sees the Herald Falco actually jumps and issues a little excited squeak. Despite it not doing wonders for his stomach he is more then fascinated by the ship. It's good to sea you again Captain Cecil. If we may chart you're boat again that'll be very helpful. We need to cross the shoals and a hole in the bottom of your boat won't bother you nearly as much as any other captain. Gothruk greets the sailor.

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 16 morning (Co-DM Matt)
Wednesday August 30th, 2017 8:05:26 PM

[OOC: slight retcon ... at breakfast, before you head down to the dock, two druids who serve the university and the Chief stop by for a visit. Their ministrations are swift, and ALL PCS ARE NOW AT FULL HEALTH.]

Lomocia volunteers to cure Tsak, but now she can save the sure for later use.

Rolth is excited to see the Herald at the dock. He proposed to board this ship again and attempts to strike a deal with Captain Cecil. He asks the captain if the boat is capable of landing on the treacherous shoals and the captain laughs. “No captain with any experience will try to land on the shoals. Not even with my watery brothers. You will have to either swim for it or take the dinghies.”

Gothruk says, “It's good to sea you again Captain Cecil. If we may chart you're boat again that'll be very helpful. We need to cross the shoals and a hole in the bottom of your boat won't bother you nearly as much as any other captain.”
“Ey, the Herald had no hole in the bottom but I guess all the other holes would make you think that.” The captain laughs loudly.

Falco is visibly excited to see the Herald and says, "It can only be providence that such a wonders ship is still in port. I will commit to coming back to this place for the dryad but if this ship is here more then ever I feel we should go."

The captain smiles broadly. He seems entertained at the reactions to his arrival. “I actually moored the boat late last night,” the captain says. “Just came back from the shoals. Nasty place, the shoals is. Found the remains of another taurnament ship. Sad, I tell you whens one of us loses our ship. I was able to rescue only the bosun, all the rest drown.”

Tsak Rezar asks for some help with healing and wants company to browse the vendors that have set up shop early in the morning. He can find a seller of healing potions for 50 gold each.

Kiwina tries to assess whether the ship is restful enough to heal normally. He finds that it maybe a little rough at times. Kiwina finds he can offer Tsak some initial First Aid and Long term, even with the unsteady ship.

Finnian is not too happy to see the captain and his ship.

Sable

In response to your plan to go to the eastern edge of the Shipwreck Shoals, Captain Cecil says that the trip is not long, and he can take you there by tomorrow late afternoon. He asks if you will want him to await your return offshore -- he presumes you will! He says he’ll take you there and then to your next destination for a wooden taurnament token. “Do you have any left?” he asks.

Tsak thanks Kiwina and Lomocia for their concern but the weird old man in the smock really knew his stuff and Tsak is feeling top shelf. He is excited to see healing potions, but not so excited by the price. Still, the memory of feeling wounded and helpless drives him and (assuming someone else still has a token for Captain Cecil) he will offer his token for two potions. He will also enquire about a potion or herbs for sea sickness, thinking of Finnian and that peculiar shade of green that he turned last time on the Herald.
(OOC: If Tsak's is the last token then he will use it for the journey and forego the potions, but I don't think it is?)

Rolth thanks Kiwina for paying our fare, and confirms to the Captain that we do indeed want him to await our return offshore, and thereafter take us to Liontaur Isle to complete the Taurnament. Rolth is glad of his offer to use the dinghy, but is also wondering whether some backup flotation devices of some sort might be available. Can we find such a thing in port or on board?

Sable indicates that he also has a token left, in case we need it later. He is happy with the plan to go to the shoals and back to our starting point to complete the Taurnament. Once completed, maybe we can use the token to come back here to follow-up with the dryad....

Finnian wakes up the next morning and is delighted at the arrival of the druids. He approaches them nervously but quickly opens up. "If you would excuse me but I have become fascinated with what you have been able to do here. How does one learn to draw on the powers of the Wold? I have some skill in creating things from it," he showes the bow he crafted to them "and sometimes i feel like the wood speaks to me, but I wish I could work with things that aren't already dead. This Wold has so much power, can I learn t commune with it as you do?" He finishes his interrogation and meekly returns his bow to his back.

Down at the docks he follows the others reluctantly and nods to the captain and gives him a slight smile to convey his gratitude.
