The Shoal Garden

Rolth expresses interest in some healing, if some is available. Meanwhile, he is quite impressed with this new "wizard" Elyas, who seems to be a deadeye shot with a crossbow too. We are the Eight Petaled Rode, questers in the Taurnament of Roses. I do not think it sporting to take a Rose from another competitor, indeed we slew those who tried to steal from us. Nevertheless, your wrath is understandable, given your rough treatment at the hands of those desperadoes. We do need an eighth, to replace our lost comrade. Might you be interested in joining our quest?

And to the other Petals, What say you?

From last round, will start with search of bodies first, then move on to screaming wemic.

I am not a part of this tournament, Elyas replies to Falco. I had no intention of participating until I was abducted by this band.

Elyas turns to Rolth

It is very sporting of you to not take a rose from this group, I assumed that all of the rose questers were as callous as these centaurs. I think you may still be able to work something out, however. This liontaur perhaps not tightly bound to the group that attacked you. She and a partner were simply hired for their skills by the centaurs. Perhaps you could make her a better deal to give you the rose or join your group to share in the reward, now that her employers are out of action

While they talk, Elyas stands over the pile of gear taken from the centaurs and begins using detect magic as Falco suggested.

Tsak searches for wood to make a campfire and gets set on making a meal for the team and all the captives.
'It would probably be best if we set a watch for the night.'

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None  d20+7=11 ; d20+6=18 ;

Kiwina chimes in on the conversation with Elyas that while they have encountered other questers who were threatening and rude, this is the only time they have been attacked.

While the other petals set up camp, Kiwina considers the problems they are facing beyond retrieving the rose from a garden:
1. Will the two long boats fit the Petals, a liontaur, and two centaurs in a single trip?
2. What to do with the bodies of the dead -- the man they found on the reef (OOC: I don't think his race was ever stated) and the centaurs who attacked them. Among Kiwina's people, this would require burial in a cave or sand dune, or being given to the ocean to return as a shark. Kiwina does not think these honorless centaurs would protect fishermen well as sharks, and he does not have the proper shrouds for that ceremony. A cave would be best. Does he see anything that looks worth further investigation (perception = 11)?
3. What time of day tomorrow will the tides be best for returning to the Herald (sailor = 18)?

If -- and after -- the party sets up camp, Kiwina will spend up to an hour looking for a suitable burial spot away from camp.

Gothruk will tie up Centaur 2 (Ooc I don't think I need to roll a check for that) Then he'll set about making camp.

The heal was to stabalize the downed Centaurs.

Finnian heads back to the boats to check on the Liontaur. He explains to her that they were attacked by the others in her team and some of them didn't make it when the petals had to defend themselves. "we tried to reason with them but they were sure that we were after their rose. I think you and I both know that we do not have it," he says glancing at he pocket where he noticed the bulge earlier. "We also met a wizard that apparently your team had kidnapped for some sort of blood ritual, I cant believe that that would be allowed, but he told us that you were just a hired hand. Seeing as how I kind of saved you life, perhaps you could help us out and let us know what is in store for us, other than your team ambushing us that is."

After a brief introduction with Elyas Falco joins Finnian to check on the injured Liontaur.

"Please allow me to echo that what happened was, sadly, unavoidable. They took an aggressive stance and attacked us first, I have a bruise to prove it. I am sure you had some friendship with a group you have been traveling with so I am sorry if you feel the loss. We will at least make sure that you are not left here when we leave."

Rose Quest Day 18 at Dawn (Co-DM Cayzle) Shipwreck Shoals
Monday September 25th, 2017 6:59:12 PM

Rolth expresses some interest in healing and the new wizard that has joined them.
“We are the Eight Petaled Rose, questers in the Taurnament of Roses. I do not think it sporting to take a Rose from another competitor, indeed we slew those who tried to steal from us. Nevertheless, your wrath is understandable, given your rough treatment at the hands of those desperadoes. We do need an eighth. Might you be interested in joining our quest?”

Elyas says he had no intention of participating before he was abducted. Then adds, “It is very sporting of you to not take a rose from this group, I assumed that all of the rose questers were as callous as these centaurs. I think you may still be able to work something out, however. This liontaur perhaps not tightly bound to the group that attacked you. She and a partner were simply hired for their skills by the centaurs. Perhaps you could make her a better deal to give you the rose or join your group to share in the reward, now that her employers are out of action.”

He casts detect magic and finds no magic.

Finnian, Falco and Sable head over to the distraught wemic.

Sable intends to search her but she stares at him with sad eyes.

“You killed them?” She asks. “I thought they were dead in the storm.” Finnian asks her for help. “We each entered the Garden seperately,” she says. “I dodged a plant thing and found the center. I alone found a Rose.”

“I would like to go home. Can you help me? I am done with this taurnament,” she replies to Falco.

Sable notices her rose, hidden in a pouch with some food.

Kiwina ponders several questions.
. Will the two long boats fit the Petals, a liontaur, and two centaurs in a single trip? In short, a longboat will hold 8 units, where a Taur is two units and a halfling is a half a unit. The math does not work out for everybody getting out in one trip.
Does Kiwina see anything that looks like a possible burial place? Not really. This slightly hilly coral island may well have limestone caves, but it would take some searching. Maybe look for places where water springs from the ground, if this island has any freshwater springs.
What time of day tomorrow will the tides be best for returning to the Herald? There are high tides early in the morning and late in the afternoon.

The group settles in to spend the night.

Gothruk ties up prisoners.

Tsak searches for wood to make a campfire and finds enough driftwood here and there ... along with the scurrying of small creatures in the underbrush ... enough for a campfire for the night. ALSO, he sees the arch-like hedge that is clearly the gate to the next garden.

Later, Kiwina does find a brackish spring that runs down from a pool, and you can swim through the pool into a cave. It is narrow, and the water runs through it. It may be the only source of semi-potable water on the island, and he hesitates to foul it with the bodies of the dead. Still, if you have to leave the centaurs behind, at least they will not die of thirst.
ALSO, he does suddenly notice small animal tracks in the sand -- but nothing that would threaten the life of a castaway ... and could be a source of food if you do not mind rodent-meat.

The night passes with only the splashes of fishes in the placid waters next to the beach. The crashing of the waves on the distant reef is oddly soothing. Little crabs crawl on you on the night. They nip the bodies of the dead, if you have not tended them yet.

The sun rises on a beautiful day, dawn of the 18th day of your quest. Those who are still injured are healed naturally by 1 hp (or 2 if you are second level).

Kiwina (Steve M) (28/28 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:16) | Status: None
Monday September 25th, 2017 9:07:09 PM

Before they turn in, Kiwina tells the others what he has found and suggests that burial at sea may be best. If the centaurs had bedrolls or blankets, maybe they can improvise something. He does not want to take bodies to the Herald -- although if the liontauress has something in mind for her friend and if it does not take an additional trip he would be willing to take that one. Likewise, he considers leaving the centaurs they subdued here to be not much better than killing them in cold blood -- and that only because other teams are sure to show up. Kiwina is willing to risk an extra trip to get the centaurs to the Herald.

Kiwina wakes refreshed and ready to enter the garden. Best to deal with that first.

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern
Monday September 25th, 2017 9:38:40 PM

Sable pulls Rolth aside and lets him know about the rose. Maybe he can make a deal with the defeated wemic. Alternatively, it might only count if we obtain the rose from the garden ourselves...

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (10/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+5 x3 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: Fatigued

Rolth is also unsure whether gaining the Rose from the wemic would suffice for the Taurnament. He agrees with Kiwina that they should bury the bodies at sea, and let the crabs do the hard work. If the liontaur has no more advice to add, he is ready to enter the garden, bidding her to await our return and we will take her back to the ship.

Elyas (Ben A.) (12/12 HP | AC: 13; Touch:13; Flat: 10; CMD:14) | Light Crossbow +3( 1D8, 19-20) | Status: None  d20=11 ;

Elyas spend some of the evening sitting with the Wemic.

"I am truly sorry about what happened to your crew. I did hate them for what they did to me, but so much death saddens me. It was all so unnecessary.

These people seem to be honorable, I think they really will help us off of this island.

I would beg you to consider giving them the rose from this island in exchange for the kindness they have offered. You can still turn in the one other rose you gained for a prize, and we'll all be safe away from this island.

I didn't see how it happened, but I know the other liontaur died in the garden trying to get that rose. Haven't enough people died in the name of this taurnament already?"

[Diplomacy +0 = 11]

Elyas also takes a minute to confer with Falco

I don't know what awaits us in the garden, but the wemic has mentioned plant creatures. We should be prepared. Do you have any fire spells you can prepare?"

Speaking with Elyas and the fallen Liontaur (did we get a name?).

"Elyas speaks true, we will not leave you but if the plant creatures are truly that dangerous Elyas's suggestion is the simplest idea. Know it is not just greed on my part that motivates, I have already promised a large portion of my prize to someone who gave us advice."

"While not clear on the rules I would suggest you allow us to forgo this challenge and let us be caretakers of your rose. If we can add you and Elyas here to our team retroactively I am sure my fellows will do that. We can all win and best of all we can all live." {Diplomacy: 12 of course}

Aside with Elyas.

"A plant creature is not a surprise. We have battled a large plant creature already and one of my large friends made short work of it. Still better to avoid if we can. Sadly I do not have any fire spells in my spellbook yet."

"I think it would be unsporting to take... Gothruk realises mid sentence that he doesn't know the Liontaur's name I beg your pardon, I don't believe you've given us your name, that or I'm being forgetful...
As I was saying it would be unsporting to take her rose, even if offered freely, she earned it fairly, and we should do the same. We've beaten two other challenges, no reason why we can't beat this one too. Also the math dosn't add up if both these people joined us there would be 9 members, (Ooc 10 because Lomocia hasn't actually left our party yet) which is definitely against the rules.
It's of my opinion we get our own rose and help these two get back to safety. This Liontaur can hand in her rose with honour and if either of them wish to join us on adventures after this, they are welcome to.

Finnian lets the others know that some sort of plant lashed out at the Liontaur but that she made it to the center. "apparently that is where the rose we seek is located. She also said that they entered separately, though if that was part of the rules to this garden or just how they did it I cannot tell." Finnian adds.

I agree maybe we can try this garden tomorrow

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 18- (6:00 am) (Co-DM Matt)   d20=10 ; d20=18 ;
Tuesday September 26th, 2017 7:49:13 PM

Kiwina suggests they bury the dead at sea, and the wounded female liontaur offers to help. “Gosh,” says Elarorn, whose name you learned from the centaur boss before his defeat [see DM post of Sept. 18]. “I honestly wish I could take care of the last rites for my companions on my own, maybe while you all are in the Garden. But with these two broken legs, I just can’t do it myself.”

Tsak Rezar takes the opportunity to offer his condolences.

Lomocia speaks up. “All this death is too much for me. I’m done with adventuring, I think, at least for now. But I’ll guard these two centaur prisoners while they help Elarorn do what needs to be done.” The two chastened prisoner centaurs give their word that they will obey Lomocia.

After a long conversation with Elyas the liontaur thanks him for his kindness. Elarorn then tells him that she would like to keep the Rose and take it back with her to Liontaur Isle. “The Taurnament is barbaric,” she comments, then tells him she will complete the taurnament, attempt to receive her reward for the Rose, and go home.

“Besides,” she tells Elyas, “I already gave your new friends several nice items. That’s plenty reward enough for their help getting off this little island, I think.”

When Falco follows through on Sable’s idea of making a deal, Elarorn replies with a “No think you, I’ll keep this rose.” Sense Motive DC10: Highlight to display spoiler: {She seems to trust that you will not try to take the Rose by force, nor to offer her a “deal” such as charging her a Rose for passage off the island.}

------------

The sun is barely on the horizon when the incoming tide begins to sneak up on you. Elarorn, Lomocia, and the two centaur prisoners follow Kiwina’s and Rolth’s suggestion to send the dead (properly weighted down) to their peace in the deepest part of the lagoon, but they dare not go outside the reef -- or back to the Herald -- since they lack the sailing skill needed to get past the reef safely, even at high tide.

“You know it wasn’t my idea,” one centaur prisoner declares to his fellow prisoner and to the rest of the Petals. “I just wanted to take a long boat and get off this island. I didn’t want any part of the ambush.” Perception vs. DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { You see the crashed and ruined wreckage of the centaurs’ longboat partially hidden behind some brush about fifty yards east of where you are standing. Evidently the shipwrecked centaurs were trying to make a raft of it. Trying without much success.}

The Garden is over a short ridge and ahead a few yards near where Tsak found the wood for the campfire last night.

Gothruk is eager to get on with the quest. He leads the Eight-Petaled Rose to the hedge that is the arched Gateway. Now that it is a new day, Finnian wants to get on with it as well.

Rolth is satisfied with the arrangements for the centaurs, dead and living, and ready to get on with the quest! He thanks Elarorn for the advice she offered earlier, and for the gifts she has already given us, with the intent of reinforcing her apparent perception that we can be trusted not to renegotiate. (Sense Motive = 16, success) "Worry not, we'll be back soon to get us all to the ship and homeward bound." He glances over the centaur prisoners, but shrugs--Lomocia can make sure that all remains well here. (Perception = 14, fail) Speaking of Lomocia, does she have any healing for those of us most grievously wounded? Rolth would defer to those less robust, given that there are several of us in far worse shape than he.

With that, he gets a good grip on his glaive, with the intent to make attacks of opportunity to protect his comrades, and takes his place in the line. "Remember, we were told that movement is important here, so let's be quick about getting to the center and claiming the Rose. We have the Elixir of Expeditious Retreat if needed."

Looking at the raft the centaurs were trying to make, Kiwina wonders. . . "Either one of the long boats is going to have to make two trips to get everyone off the island, or we're is going to have to make an additional craft. . . or we could use a raft to link the two longboats. That's pretty much the way we make ships back home,"

"The weather isn't as bad today, but assuming that there is a one in four chance of a longboat running into problems between the island and the ship -- which is what I would guess we had yesterday -- then the odds could be better than the four trips we will need to get everyone off in a long boat. A decent raft would cut this down to three trips, each with an experienced sailor. But a raft secured between the two longboats would be a single trip. True, an improvised craft might change the odds a bit, but it would also mean that all three of the our sailors would be working together to see the trip successfully through. Sounds like a win to me."

Suddenly realizing the others probably don't share his enthusiasm for taking to the sea in this manner, Kiwina adds, "We should think about it while we're in the garden."

But really, as a sailor and shipbuilder, does Kiwina think they group has he materials needed to improve the odds?

Elarorn thanks the Petals. She seems trustworthy unlike her companions as the remain centaur continues to complain.
Conversations about the long boats, Lomocia and the wemic end as you all head into the Garden.
This gate is different than the others. It’s open, covered in vines and there is no dryad this time. Within the garden, the demiplane is open to the sky, a plain grey roof like an overcast day. There is a maze, made of stone walls one foot wide and 20 feet high. Vines cover all the stone walls.

How wide are the passages that we can see in the maze? It does not make a lot of sense to Kiwina to stick people in the middle of a long single-file line.

I vote we go as one group. I think it would also be a bad idea to use the flute, wait to use it outside life threatening situations first. Though I trust Elarorn, I don't trust our ability to use the flute and magic shouldn't be trifled with recklessly.
Falco should carry the potion of speed as he isn't as fast as the rest of us. And I agree with Rolth we might be able to follow Elaron's tracks to set us on the right course before something inevitably bad happens.
Other than that Gothruk has nothing more to say and will wait until everyone's ready to enter.

My vote is that we go in all together and rely on teamwork and strength in numbers to take down the guardians.

If some of our faster members go through first, however, they could act as scouts so we don't all blunder into something together.[b]

Elyas is too busy talking through how to divide the party to pay attention to the tracks. (perception of 5, I still keep forgetting to roll with bonuses! Sorry!)

Elyas prepares to cast Mage Armor on himself, but will wait until right before he enters the maze, just in case we delay for some reason.

Rolth asks Finnian to keep the Pipes handy, which leads to further discussion on when to use the magic item.
The group finds several tracks within the sandy garden. The hooved feet of the centaur from the previous group. The long paws of the liontaur are barely noticeable but they follow the hooved prints at this time. There is also the distressing sign of a wound as a trace about of blood leaves the garden.

Rolth suggests they gather in two or three small groups. He frees up one hand for a rope and would prefer to group up with Kiwina and maybe Falco.
A mundane rat scampers from the left, along the wall, to the center maze entrance and disappears. Falco wonders about how fast they would be tied together.
Gothruk votes going in as one group and would like to wait to use the pan flute. Tsak like the 1 group method but suggested they should be ready to break off as a smaller group.
Elyas votes along with Gothruk but suggests that a smaller group could go in first as scouts.
Finnian suggests breaking up in smaller groups will give them all better maneuverability but it’s not against tying everyone together.

The path forward has room for a pair of centaurs side by side along with a path on the right side. There is a third path on the left with room for one large creature to pass through. Outside of the path entrances there are the huge 20 foot walls made of stone. The walls are covered in vines.

(OOC: Would need a clear path forward. Group together, small groups or individual. Let the DMs know what int check you want to use if you are in a group.)

Rolth says that there seems to be a loose consensus to start as one group, with the option for the fast ones to split later. Given that the currently observable path seems to be 20' wide (2 centaurs), how about this for an order, which puts the meatshields in front and back, filling up the corridor:

Front

Gothruk Sable

Elyas Finnian Falco

Kiwina Rolth

Rear

We could tie together the two ropes that we just got from the centaurs and snake it through the party, with it tied around Finnian's waist as an anchor point (leaving his hands free). The rest could just hold on with one hand, or tie it as they wish. Our fast break team (Kiwina and Rolth, possibly plus Falco with the potion or riding) could hold Rolth's 3rd rope in the same hand, so that they could break away at a moment's notice.

Re the INT check, we should go with Falco if we have to keep using the same person's check or Finnian's 22 if we can swap back and forth.

Rolth also looks at the vines to see whether they look climbable for one of the smaller party members (Perception = 18)

Rose Quest Day 18, Morning (Co-DM Cayzle) Shipwreck Shoals

The party decides to go forward as a single group to start. As Rolth suggests ...

Front

Gothruk | Sable

Elyas | Finnian | Falco

Kiwina | Rolth

Rear

Wait! That can’t be right! Rolth has left poor Tsak out of the marching order! Just because he wandered off for a moment to “water the lawn” -- so to speak. After an initial moment of confusion, Tsak volunteers to march ahead of both Gothruk and Sable, looking for tracks ...

Speaking of tracks, Falco looks for tracks that seem to be in mass and going one direction. He has noticed the collection of sandy tracks walking together to this point, but from here on out, those prints scatter and disperse every which-a-way. Finnian remains on the lookout for tracks (seeing the same thing) and more.

Both of the PCs whose names start with “F” recall that the prior group went in and seperated. That’s confirmed with the tracks you see, going hither-de-pither -- and not being very useful as a guide, alas. You cannot pick out one set of liontaur tracks from the two liontaurs, five centaurs, and the human that made up Elarorn’s team.

The group decides to stay together, either holding onto or tied to ropes.

Just before the group sets out, Rolth looks at the vines that climb the walls. The walls look hard to climb (DC20), but the vines would offer a bonus to the climb check for creatures who are small in size.

Sable and Kiwina line up, but Kiwina expresses some concerns about breaking off the group later.

Gothruk and Falco and Finnian line up.

Where does overlooked Tsak fit in?

The group moves forward. The Eight-Petaled Rose squeezes through the center entrance and walks for twenty minutes without an issue. This is clearly a magical maze, you realize. The twists and turns of the structure push on your minds, and you feel sure that if you were not using the ropes, you would find yourselves lost and apart. As it is, you find yourselves turning right when you mean left, moving backwards when you mean forwards, and so on. There is a lot of bumping and shoving, but you manage to stay together.

Everyone please make a Perception check (for surprise!).

[OOC: Also before we go further, your under-informed DM Cayzle has three questions ... (1) did you spill any wizard blood on entering the maze? (2) whoever has the highest Int check, I NEED that PC to make an Int roll for the group. 1d20+Int Mod, please. (3) Where does Tsak go in the marching order? All alone out front, as he bravely volunteers? ... Once I get the answer to these questions, plus the Perception checks for surprise, we can proceed.]

With Tsak in front, slightly ahead, the group moves forward. The passages of the maze turn and twist for about twenty minutes. Then, there is an attack ...

The attacker is a plant creature that springs from a hiding place in the wall. It’s stealth check is a 17. ONLY those PCs who rolled a perception check equal to or better than that result get to act in the surprise round. A plant creature leaps out!

In the surprise round, only the plant creature and those who were NOT surprised get just ONE standard OR move action. Please review the rules for Surprise.

The plant makes one attack (Target gets no dex bonus to AC).

Then those who were not surprised can act. Those who are surprised can make a roleplay post or make free actions, such as knowledge and perception checks and speaking.

The plant creature is a small bi-pedal plant-creature with vines for its body, head, and limbs. Tsak is the first to encounter the creature. With Gothruk and Sable close behind. The rootling’s brown, human-like, face screams and attacks Tsak.

(Vine Attack: miss) (2nd Vine: hits) strikes for 1 hp + DC:12 Fort Save to avoid being poisoned. If you fail the save, you take a 3 penalty on your dexterity.

Kiwina continues to watch the rear of the party.
Falco says nice work and also suggests they climb to walls to get a better perspective.
Elyas feels a bit foolish for casting his shield early. He is glad the group is on his side and continues to watch.
---
As you walk forward, lead by Tsak you enter the bright light of mid-morning.
In front of you sand followed by a patch of grass. In the center is a dryad, the most beautiful of the three you have seen so far. To her left is a glass container with the rose within it.
“Welcome, congratulations. Did you encounter many of my little friends? You may free yourself from bondage this area is a free zone. You will, however, have to group back together… in whatever way you want… and head back through the maze to get out.”

Behind the dryad is an array of entrances. A duplicate entrance, 20’ wide, is behind the dryad. To the left is a maze entrance that is 10’ across. The vines upon this entrance have grown twice as thick as anywhere else. They twist and braid on their way to the top of the 1’ wide walls. To the right is another entrance that is 20’ wide but absent of vines.
To the left of the Petals is an entrance this is barely 10’ wide minus the large vines growing along the sides making it even smaller. To the right of the petals is the last new entrance and this one is 20’ wide.
Gorthruk and Sable find two small tracks in the sand outside of the larger creatures. A rat attempts to run toward you from the left maze entrance but sees everyone, turns and runs back into the entrance. The other track, you now notice, is from a thin creature with long, whip-like toes.
From the back of the group Rolth and Falco notice shadows moving quickly through the dark passage you are leaving. Rolth only Highlight to display spoiler: {} With a slightly better perception Rolth can faintly hear raspberries within the walls.)

He notices the rat, and it makes him curious. If the rats live here, it would maybe make sense that they would only use the passages that could lead them back and forth from their home in the maze and out to forage for food.

Elyas spends a few moments looking at the other entrances to see if he cn spot any rat (or Liontaur) tracks leading into any of the other openings (Perception 22)

Kiwina unties the rope and says, "Good morning, lady. May I know your name? And what is the nature of the challenge we face here, if you may explain it?"
Sable moves forward along with Tsak. Finnian joins them.
Elyas follows, drops the rope and readies his crossbow. He notices the rat and is curious. He looks for further tracks but the sand has been raked. You know this because a rake sits next to one of the entrances.
Falco says, "We did meet one of your little friends but he did not seem to want to be our friend really. Is that the rose we came for?"
Gothruk moves into the sunlight. He doesn’t untie himself. Greets the dryad and asks about the rose in the glass.
------
The dryad smiles. My name is Willonia. The other dryads you have met, they are my sisters… twins. She smiles. “The challenge, you have already faced the challenge once. I heard you didn’t have a real hard time. You will have to run through the maze a final time... face another.”
“Yes, this is the rose, your prize.” With another smile she removes the Rose and offers it to anyone willing to take it.
“You can stay in the group you came in or change.”

With that, Rolth picks up his morningstar, and gets back to his spot on the ropes, agreeing with Kiwina that going as one is best. Knowing that the way behind us is held by the poisonous fruit, he votes that the Petals exit via the 20' passage behind the dryad. Gothruk thinks about hitting the vines to try to find these sneaky plants.
Kiwina is the only one able to hit the plant creature and it screams in pain. It is barely able to attack but strikes Finnian with it’s poison covered thorns for 3 damage.
(Note that the thorn poison forces a DC12 Fort save or accept a 1d10-3 dex penalty until you leave the garden -- subsequent penalties do not stack, but the largest applies.)
(OOC: You have been within the maze for a couple hours)(Finnian, being a half elf has some room to step back. Likely 5’ on each side.)

The plant creature blows a weak raspberry as Kiwina tries to attack him again but this time the little creature manages to avoid the blow.
Rolth hisses as he watches for trouble. He notices that other little plants begin to appear. They stand and stare at the group from the center of the maze. They seem to step out from each entrance but do not attempt to attack. Rolth and Tsak Sense Motive vs DC: 3 Highlight to display spoiler: { The little creatures seem to be interested in the outcome of the fight with the plant creature hanging over the group. They are currently not a threat.}
Tsak near the front of the group looks for more trouble. He sees the creatures standing against the walls and hanging high above.
Elyas pulls out his dagger and attempts to stab the creature but barely misses. He strikes part of the creature that had been peeled off from the last attack.
Sable swings at the creature but misses.
Falco misses also with his acid arrow causing the plant creature to blow another raspberry. This one with a little more enthusiasm.
Finnian shakes off the poison, which is noticed by the plant, who growls, and he fires an arrow but it doesn’t penetrate the creature’s natural armor.

(Plant creature - AC: 16 - HP left: 2)

The creatures confidence grows and it blows another raspberry as it begins to attack Elyas but Gothruk cuts the creature down easily and it falls to the ground, where is it crushed to much of nothing.
There is a sudden applause from a large number of the little creatures. They are clapping all around you. That is until Gothruk overwhelming flurry of blows. The creatures become very quiet. They stand, nervously watching for your next step.

As the Petals thank Gothruk and move forward through the passage it wides to 20’ wide giving you a little more breathing room. Hundreds of plant creatures stand near the wall and above your head as you twist and turn through the remainder of the maze. Near the end the creatures begin to clap. First slowly then a little faster. It’s a weird noise, all those viney arms banging together. Stepping from the maze you return to the sand and the Garden entrance.

Kiwina (Steve M) (28/28 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:16) | Status: None  d20+8=19 ; d20+5=18 ;

Once the Petals are out of the maze, Kiwina looks to see what time it is, and where the liontaur and centaurs are. He wants to make sure the group is ready to reach the Herald with the afternoon tide. He has let the question linger at the back of his mind while the group looked for the rose: Is the best chance of getting everyone off the island to make three trips (total) in the long boats, or are the materials available to lash the boats together in a way that would allow everyone to go at once without making their odds of success much worse?

(Rolls: sailor = 19; craft ships = 18)

Once they have checked on Lomocia and the other taurs Tsak is happy to put his head together with Kiwina's as to the safest way to return to the Herald.
(Profession: Sailor = 17) He will take the helm of a long boat as required.

Rolth will also keep a weather eye out for shifty taurs and other threats as we emerge from the maze. (Perception = 15) If no threats present themselves, he will assist Kiwina in assessing the potential to create a workable vessel. (Profession Sailor = 22 = success in assisting) Rolth is also willing to pilot a craft if necessary, hopefully with an assist from Task.

(OOC Rolth is prepared to burn a hero point to ensure a safe passage, and if called upon to pilot a boat will burn the point before the roll to get an additional +8 bonus, for a total of +13.)

Finnian comes out of the maze i little more banged up than when he went in, but not as hurt as he has been after previous encounters. "If there is anything I can do let me know," Finnian says. Freaked out by the hundreds of potentially murderous plants Gothruk becomes so tense it'll probably take several days for his muscles to unwind. The clapping does not help...
Why arn't they attacking? Are they casting a spell? A ritual? Is this some ancient plant dooming curse!? Are we cursed now? He mutters to himself. I'm finding a cleric after this, maybe they'll know if we're cursed. Or would a druid be a better idea? They know about plants.

Kiwina looks to see what time it is and notices it is just before 1:00. The sun beats down warming the sand as you stand on the beach. (OOC: If you’re ever curious. I track the time in the header) Tsak waits with Kiwina as Sable and Rolth scan for trouble.
Lomocia and the others wait patiently near the boats where the liontaur was found. The taur is bound and sitting in a terrible mood.
Elyas offers his help with the boats. Finnian stands guard as Falco comments on the applause from the little plant creatures.
Gothruk freaks out a bit about the plants.

---
The plant creatures disappear back into the walls after the Petals leave through the gate. The liontaur approaches and explains that she buried her companions. Lomocia and her pulled all the longboats onto the shore. There are two boats that the group started with. A third that the liontaur had passed out in. The third boat is a bit damaged but with all the expert sailors you are able to repair the boat easily and head toward the Herald.

(OOC: Three centaur/liontaur can fit within each boat. Anyone that is not a taur may be able to double up because you have a total of ten persons. You will need to declare a captain for each boat and an extra brave soul to captain the boat with the liontaur. ;)

Kiwina and the passengers of Boat Two have a hard time keeping the boat from rocking but they manage to get half the distance to the Herald. Rolth navigates the boat and it’s passengers easily through the afternoon waters and sits in front of Kiwina.
The last boat sails easily toward the Herald till the liontaur notices the unique ship they are headed toward. She begins to panic, resisting any comfort from the concerned prisoners. The other prisoners are not comfortable about boarding the Herald but the liontaur overrides any of their fears.

"I may not know how to sail but I can at least spot danger and let Rolth know so he can avoid it" he thinks to himself. "another rock off the... Right side" he calls and points, forgetting what it was the sailors called the right and left.

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 18- To the Herald (1:30 pm) (Co-DM Matt)
Wednesday October 18th, 2017 7:35:21 PM

Boat One rocks dangerously but Tsak expertly maneuvers the boat to the Herald, even with the liontaur’s protest. He tries to comfort her, “It floats better than it looks lass, and it's not let us down on two voyages. Trust me, that leaky sieve is the best and fastest way that you're going to get to dry land, hand in your rose and make something good come out of the mess that was your team!”
She is unhappy to be staring up at the Herald. “I’m telling you. I am not going on that ship. I don’t know what kind of magic this is but it’s not right.”
Kiwina in Boat Two expertly navigates the distance between the shore and Herald as the crew lowers knotted ropes to help them aboard.
Boat Three loses the oars and they come to a slow stop.
Rolth sits at the tiller and calls for help. Unfortunately, the only sailors that can help are distracted.
Falco offers some help and agile Rolth and Boat Three quickly maneuver the slowing boat around the rocks.
Gothruk tries to grab an oar but it slips from his grip.

(Note: Without at least 1 in Professional Sailor Rank you will not be able to assist using this. I will allow other checks with a good explanation. Once you level up you can add Professional Sailor ranks.)
----
The Herald offers help to the two boats that made it. Rolth and Boat Three sit in the water. (Without oars how will you make it to the Herald. Rolth must roll a Sailor check again to make it to the boat.)

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern  d20+1=17 ;

Sable quickly gets out the rope from his climbers kit, attaches a heavy piece of metal and tosses it towards the wayward craft (17 to Hit - assuming no dex or str, 19 with Dex or 21 with strength), if it falls into the boat he will lash his end onto the main vessel and begin hauling the boat in...

Kiwina (Steve M) (28/28 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:16) | Status: None  d20+8=12 ; d20+8=26 ;

Kiwina assesses Rolth's situation while his passengers grab the ropes. Is Rolth past the reef but unable to move, or in peril of hitting rocks? If his friends are in peril, then Boat Two heads back now. Otherwise, he will let the centaur off first to make a little more space, and let Sable decide what he wants to do.

(Roll: perception = 12 to assess, sailor = 26 to return)

Task first has to ensure the bound Taur is aboard the Herald. Then he implores the Captain and first mate to talk sense to the liontaur. Once that is all handled he'll attempt to assist Sable.

(OOC, DM's I'm still on mobile with limited ability to look up rules etc. Any assistance with what skills I should be using for all this greatly appreciated.)

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Morningstar +3 1d8+3 x2 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: None  d20+5=25 ;

Rolth will attempt to use the tiller like a fish's tail, swishing it back and forth to provide a little bit of forward momentum. He will direct Gothruk to secure and spread his cloak (or a tarp if available) at a proper tacking angle, to take advantage of some wind power. The others hopefully can aid by trying to grab on to Sable's rope, securing a corner of Gothruk's cloak, and the like.

"Tomi protect us and guide us home!" (Profession Sailor = 25)

Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (7/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17 Party Loot Sheet

Unsure how to help further Falco does what he can but really feels he is best served to stay out of the way.

[ooc: can't think of a creative way to use any of my other skills.}

Gothruk Gore (Logan) AC 12 (T11/F10)12/12HP |Guisarme +3 2D6+4| Status: None  d20+1=12 ;

Gothruk will catch the metal end of the rope thrown to us by Sable (assuming that it lands near us) and start pulling us towards the boat counting on Rolth to steer around obstacles. Otherwise he'll do as is suggested and pull off his cloak and try to direct it as a makeshift sail.
Craft check to make a improvised sail 1D20+1=12
(I have no idea what other check it would be)

Elyas (Ben A.) (12/12 HP | AC: 17; Touch:13; Flat: 14; CMD:14) | Light Crossbow +3( 1D8, 19-20) | Status: Mage Armor  d20+5=17 ;
Thursday October 19th, 2017 1:27:16 PM

[ooc]How far is our boat from the other boats, and how far away are our oars right now?[/ooc]

Elyas will try to help navigate the boat, and leave trying to retrieve the oars to those who are a little more physically skilled. He pulls a rope from his bag in case it is needed, and does his best to aid Rolth, relying on the more seasoned sailor to tell him what needs to be done.

17 on profession-Sailor to aid Rolth

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:11/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'  d20+6=21 ; d20+3=10 ;
Thursday October 19th, 2017 2:24:12 PM

[perception 21]

Finnian continues to search for threats of the reef. He also tries to catch the rope if it comes near. [
