The Herald

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 18- To the Herald (2:00 pm) (Co-DM Matt)
Thursday October 19th, 2017 4:21:58 PM

Sable collects some rope from his climbers kit, attaches a weight and tosses it toward Rolth’s wayward longboat. The improvised grappling hook barely hooks the front of the long boat and Sable wins a Hero Point for ingenuity.
(OOC: Apologize but I have failed to mention the distance to the ship. So with the speed of a longboat at 30 feet and the fact that it took two moves I am judging the ship is 60 feet from shore. Sable is 30 feet ahead of Rolth’s boat so that is a 30 foot toss. -4 improvised weapon penalty/ -4 for 20 foot outside of initial 10 foot. 17 - 8 = 9.)
Kiwina is concerned about Boat Two but with Sable’s smart thinking the boat is easily brought closer.
Tsak secures the prisoners and the liontaur who sits down in the center of the boat and refuses to move. She is not too happy but Lomocia is working to settle her down. (OOC: No worries Sable has saved the day ) Falco stays out of the way.
Rolth attempts to swing the tiller like a fish’s tail but that ends up making the boat rock back and forth. With Gothruk and Elyas and Finnian help, Boat Two makes it to the side of the Herald.
----
The Herald is a marvel of a ship. Large holes ripped from the side of the boat would make you think it would sink, but it doesn’t. Two huge water elementals stand on each side and push the boat forward with amazing speed.
----
With everyone on board Cecil, the Herald’s captain speaks to the water elementals holding up the ship. Suddenly, the ship begins to move and everyone is headed back to Liontaur Isle.
“Ey, did you get a Rose,” Cecil asks. “Ya, got 7 days to relax, ifs you can.” With that the captain laughed and headed toward his quarter.
He stopped. “Oh, we got a meal down in the mess hall. Takes what you want.”
(Aboard the Herald: - DC 10 Fort save or become nauseated for the rest of the day.)

(Fort save=21)
Task congratulates Sable on his quick thinking then he heads to the mess.

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+3 x2 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: Nauseated  d20+2=9 ;

"Ooohhhh, why did I swish the tiller around like that, I know betterrrraaraaaalllllfff," as he heaves the contents of his stomach over the side. He gives a slightly green grin of thanks to Sable for the heroics, before curling up to nurse his spinning innards. (Fort save = 9, fail as the worst barbarian sailor ever)

Even in his condition, he reminds the others to stay on their guard. "We're not home yet, and there are those as would make off with our hard-won gains."

(OOC: Are we nauseated or sickened? The former is much harsher than the latter--basically useless vs being at -2 penalty. Previously we were sickened by the Herald.)

Kiwina (Steve M) (28/28 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:16) | Status: None  d20+6=20 ;
Thursday October 19th, 2017 7:53:02 PM

(roll: fortitude = 20)

Kiwina thanks Cecil, and tries to see that Elarorn finds a spot where she can not be too miserable before heading to the galley for some food. After eating, sometime before that day is through, Kiwina mentions to Cecil that the liontaur the Petals rescued is injured, but the centaurs should be able and willing to work off their passage.

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern  d20+3=4 ;
Thursday October 19th, 2017 7:53:24 PM

The combination of hearing about the mess and seeing the mess on the Ralphing Rolth is too much for Sable - he loses whatever food he had choked down that AM, hideous chunky cud spewing forth... (Fort save Nat 1 + 3 = 4)

Elyas (Ben A.) (12/12 HP | AC: 17; Touch:13; Flat: 14; CMD:14) | Light Crossbow +3( 1D8, 19-20) | Status: Mage Armor  d20+2=15 ;
Friday October 20th, 2017 8:09:07 AM

Elyas looks skeptically at the ship, but is grateful to have transport that doesn't involve being tied up and blindfolded. He finds himself a spot and grabs a bit of food.

Fort save 15.

Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (7/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17 Party Loot Sheet  d4=1 ; d20+1=12 ;
Friday October 20th, 2017 8:33:23 AM

{ooc: that d4 was a mis-click.}

Falco is actually quite relived to be back on the boat even though it has made him ill every time he has been on. He smiles and moves to speak with their unhappy liontaur charge.

"I can see that this ship makes you uncomfortable. Fear not, it is the most amazing magic that keeps this ship afloat and I would wager it is sturdier then most you have seen."

Beyond that conversation he seeks out Elyas to discuss all things magic and even offers to compare notes {ie. spellbooks} on the journey.

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:11/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'  d10=8 ;
Friday October 20th, 2017 10:20:03 AM

Finnian is likewise relieved to be back aboard a ship. However this feeling doesn't last long. Within minutes Finnian is emptying his stomach over the railing and crumpling down next to Rolth to wait out the sickness.

[Fort=8] I am not at all surprised by this result.

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 21- The Herald (8:00 pm) (Co-DM Matt)   d20=7 ; d20=1 ; d20=11 ;
Friday October 20th, 2017 6:11:50 PM

Tsak congratulates Sable. Tsak, Kiwina, Elyas head to the mess.
Kiwina thanks the captain and mentions the liontaur they rescued.
The captain replies, “No worries about working off their passage. There is no sense punishing the victims of a bad captain. We will drop her off with the others. By the way, what are you doing with the other centaur. They seem to off gotten in trouble by it wasn’t with me?”
Falco is relieved to be back on board the Herald. He says to the liontaur, "I can see that this ship makes you uncomfortable. Fear not, it is the most amazing magic that keeps this ship afloat and I would wager it is sturdier then most you have seen."
The liontaur smiles uncomfortably. Falco seeks out Elyas.
Rolth makes it onto the ship but the Herald takes its first victim. He warns the others, "We're not home yet, and there are those as would make off with our hard-won gains."
(OOC: You are nauseated)
Sable and Finnian follow Rolth’s lead and becomes nauseated.
---
The ship skirts around the seas easily. As everyone heals and gets comfortable… as much as you can. The food is bland but works. The work around the ship is intense this time around. There is a mood sticking around the sailors. A sour mood that no one seems able to overcome.
Sense Motive vs DC: 7 Highlight to display spoiler: { Many of the veteran sailors seem to be a bit frightened of something. “The sea will take it’s revenge,” mentions a minotaur sailor with years of crust and dirt within his fur. He doesn’t expand and seems to not know. }
Perception vs DC: 11 Highlight to display spoiler: { The sky seems to get darker as the days pass by. By day three a large grey cloud has taken over a quarter of the sky.}

(Aboard the Herald: - DC 10 Fort save or become nauseated for the rest of the day.)

Kiwina (Steve M) (28/28 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:16) | Status: None  d20+4=15 ; d20+8=22 ; d20+6=15 ; d20+8=15 ; d20+6=11 ; d20+10=24 ;

(rolls: sense motive = 15; perception = 22; fort save = 15)

If Kiwina knows any lore that may be worrying the sailors, he tries to remember it (sailor = 15); if he doesn't know, he'll quietly ask the crew. He also keeps an eye on the gathering storm (nature = 11; survival = 24) and helps where he can.

As for the captain's question, "What will we do with the centaur? I suppose that depends on whether the courts on Liontaur Island claim jurisdiction over the shoals. What could you see of what happened on the shoals? He and his mates attacked us to steal the longboats. My people would have killed him -- but for me, he was obeying his kapena, who was killed. The liontaur helped us, though. I would be happy if he thought the tauress claimed a prize in the taurnament but was not able to claim one himself. My friends might think differently."

Elyas (Ben A.) (12/12 HP | AC: 13; Touch:13; Flat: 10; CMD:14) | Light Crossbow +3( 1D8, 19-20) | Status: Seasick  d20+1=11 ; d20+2=12 ; d20+2=4 ;
Saturday October 21st, 2017 6:09:30 AM

Elyas feels the uneasiness of the sailors, and can't help feeling a little superstitious himself when he sees the slowly building storm. (sense motive=11, perception =12)

He spends some time with Falco looking over spells and comparing different methods and ideas for spells.

You have quite a different array of spells, my friend. even your mage armor is done differently from mine. Interesting how you use that particular command word there. I like it!

[ooc] I like to think of wizards comparing spellbooks like kids in elementary school comparing pokemon card collections.

Sadly, I have no money right now, but later maybe we should copy some spells into our respective books[/ooc]

After spending so much time reading on a moving ship, Elyas starts to feel motion-sick and has to go back up to the deck to hurl his cookies. (fort save = 4)

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+3 x2 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: Nauseated  d20+2=9 ; d20+7=19 ; d20+2=18 ; d20+2=18 ;
Saturday October 21st, 2017 8:39:09 AM

Rolth picks up on the uneasiness of the sailors and perks up from his sickened stupor to look around,
spotting the storm clouds on the horizon. (Sense Motive = 9, success)(Perception = 19, success) The sense of foreboding that he gets is enough to push his nausea into the background, and is ready to help about the ship as needed. (Fort save = 18, success, finally)

Rolth agrees with Kiwina with regard to the fate of the liontaur lass, and is open to most anything regarding the centaurs, assuming that they swear to never again undertake any word, or deed against the Petals or members thereof. Rolth can see that they were under stress in their situation on the island and following the orders of their leader. Neither is an excuse for their dishonorable conduct, but could be reason to allow leniency.

He offers his services to Captain Cecil ("Boss, reporting for duty, oh Captain, my Captain!"), and more quietly inquires into what trouble might be brewing. (Diplomacy = 18)

Gothruk Gore (Logan) AC 12 (T11/F10)12/12HP |Guisarme +3 2D6+4| Status: None  d20+3=15 ; d20+4=6 ; d20+5=9 ;

Fortitude save 1D20+3=15 Pass
Sense Motive 1D20+4=6 Fail
Perception 1D20+5=9 Fail

Riding on this boat never changes, I wonder if it is Magic that causes illness, otherwise we may have started to develop a resistance to it. Having used this boat thrice now.

Gothruk is too busy trying to sense if the boat is giving off Magic besides that which it uses to summon the water elementals to notice that the sailors were uneasy.

Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC13 (T13/F10) 11/12 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Status: None  d20=1 ; d20+5=17 ; d20+4=22 ;

(Sense Motive=1 Fail, Perception for spoiler=17 Pass, Fortitude vs nausea=22 Pass)
Satisfied that his belly is full (for now) Tsak goes looking for his armour and puts it back on. Coming back up on deck he spies the dark clouds covering a large expanse of the sky and seeks out Captain Cecil
Is that storm something we should worry about Cap'n, or will we make landfall before it gets us?

Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC15 (T13/F12) 12/12 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Status: None
Sunday October 22nd, 2017 4:40:04 AM

(OOC updated heading to reflect addition of armour and healing)
Tsak gets to work with the crew, doing what he can to help the boat beat the storm back to port.

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+3 x2 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: None

(OOC post to correct my post status, now that I am not nauseated.)

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:11/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'  d20=18 ; d20=15 ; d20+6=18 ;

[Fort: 18,I just realized that my last roll was a d10 not d20... Doh!]

Now that Finnian has spent a little time on the ship he has begun to get his sea legs. Unfortunately even though he's feeling better the atmosphere aboard the ship has taken a turn for the worse. He spends most of his time watching the water rush past the ship and wishing he was back on land. "I do hope that it is of natural causes, I would love to not have to go through that sickness again," he says discussing the matter with Gothruk.

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern  d20+3=10 ; d20+8=18 ; d20+1=6 ; d20+4=19 ;
Sunday October 22nd, 2017 8:17:10 PM

Sable feels better (Fort 10), and notes the grey clouds on day three. "We may want to prepare for a coming storm" Sable also picks up unease, but only from the Tauric sailors...(Sense motive is 6 or 8 vs Taur).

Sable takes a closer look at the clouds, and applies his weather knowledge to assist the captain and crew in the preparations or avoiding the storm (Knowledge Nature = 19).

Sable is hopeful they will return to the starting point soon and claim whatever prize awaits, his thoughts turn back to the Centaur Isle and the opportunity to visit a certain Dryad there. He also wonders if the rapscallion Centaurs might not be wanted for other villainy and would possibly be worth some coin...

Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (7/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17 Party Loot Sheet  d20=19 ; d20+2=20 ; d20+1=14 ;

Talking with Elyas about the intricacies of their spells bolsters Falco so the ship does not even make him ill this time. "Amazing isn't it. To get to similar end points we learned different methods. It will be good to learn form each other when we have time and the supplies."

{ooc: Elyas, great analogy with the Pokemon cards.}

Over time Falco notices both a mass of clouds and a bit of discontent among the sailors. If there is a free moment he will approach the captain.

"Captain, I am still marveled by your ship and glad you had the room to rescue what was left of the other group. They did attack us but if you would like payment for your passage we will do what we can. One question though, your crew seems on edge and I feel it may be more then just some rain clouds, should we be concerned or can we help?"

{Sense Motive: 19}
{Perception: 20}
{Fort: 14}
