Lance turns his head slowly, a gleeful grin on his face. Lone human on the road. That means... no collateral damage.

Lance flies within 60 feet (still 30 feet in the air). Quick gestures, crackling shocks, and Lance throws his hands forward kamehameha-style. "Elemental Blast!!!"

ooc: 20' radius burst centered on Uthvas. 26 electricity damage. Reflex DC 21 for half damage.

Taking a beating from the mummy, two zombies, and the skeleton, Hobie receives 59 points of damage and is down to only 6 HP.

Hobie shakes off any nasty effects from the Mummy's hit (26), and the three zombie smashes (20, 26, 18). The Skeleton's tongue appears to affect Hobie horribly (13), but (after spending a Hero Point for a reroll) he miraculously shakes that off as well (26).

The Fighter in Hobie tells him to slash back at the skeleton who nearly killed him, but he instead listens to the Rogue voice that screams for self preservation.

Hobie shouts "Romita!" and his ring of invisibility activates. (Standard Action) He moves his full speed away from the attackers, moving as quietly as he can toward safety. (Move Action) (Stealth 44)

Murphy has a measure of resistance to electrical energy, so takes 10 hp less damage from the necromancer's electical attack.

"Uthvas, perhaps you will," Murphy replies. "Yet you have piled up unto yourself just, eternal torment, you bent twister of souls, foul worm of Marteaus. My friends showed you mercy before. Now may Eberyon rebuke you."

"Flee, Bliss!" he shouts in sylvan.

Murphy evokes a wall of fire in a spiral to surround the mummy. Uthvas himself may be the larger threat, but the mummy has paralyzed with fear some of his friends, and they must be freed to help take out both the skeleton, and to face Uthvas Bethud. He figures he himself, in any case, has a mere moment to live.

Beginning right up close to the cloth-wrapped creature, the shimmering violet fire springs up, 20' in height, dealing 1.5*(2d4) points of fire damage to the mummy from the first ring of the spiral, and 1.5*(2d4) additional points from the second ring, only 10 feet away. He takes 1.5*(1d4) points of damage from the third spiral loop, 15 feet away - thus 1.5*(5d4) hp damage per round so long as he remains within the center of the spiral. Should the mummy choose to try to pass through the flames, he will suffer 1.5*(2d6+9) points of damage for each of the three spiral loops he goes through, so 1.5*(6d6+27) hp should he try to pass through all three. This round, he takes 19 hp fire damage (including 50% extra for vulnerability) (no saving throw).

I would estimate that Bliss is just outside the first, inner circle, so is subject to (4d4) hp fire damage (a pair of fours each for spiral #2 and #3), and 2d6+9 points of damage through each of the two additional spirals if he passes through them. [Sorry, Bliss! unless you fled as soon as Murphy called out for you to flee]

[As I have really no clear idea where other people are in relation to the mummy, lacking a map and having only a very vague sense of spacing, and do not know where in relation to the mummy the skeleton stands, and Murphy does not wish to harm his friends - I do know that Bliss is near the Mummy, but don't know how to avoid him under the circumstances... please know that, if I knew that, I could take better calculated measures.]

Spending a hero point for an additional standard action, Murphy casts ice storm centered on Uthvas Bethud. Uthvas takes 3d6=14 hp bludgeoning damage, and 2d6=10 hp cold damage (no saving throw). Great magical hailstones pound down upon the area, followed by heavy snow and sleet. -4 on Perception skill to any within the area, and it is treated as difficult terrain within the 40' diameter, 40' high cylinder.

He swoops downward to the ground, and kicks up a line of dust in the air between Uthvas and the rest of the party, to give his friends time to recover and adjust - and his body, perhaps, a place to lie should he die.

[Melvin - you're right, I forgot to assign a feat at level 9 - will look into]

Harper, completely paralyzed, pees on the mummy. Like pets in real life, she can pee on things as a purely mental action.

Pressi does her best to fire a mislead at whatever creature is in her field of view. (It's just a look so it should be a purely mental action.)

She also does her best to think things through about what is happening, with a barrage of knowledge checks. She tries to determine why her cure spell didn't work (Know Arcane +8, spellcraft +18), what that fungus is (nature +4), but most of all about the thickness and stability of the floor below (engineering +4).

(Not sure if she can even make knowledge checks or how many. Roll the appropriate ones as needed.)

You've made your point, about how powerful and cruel you can be, and for what? So you can die with the rest of us, with the rest of this town? What advantage could all this possibly give the rest of you? What do you even seek?

Bliss strikes at the mummy twice, Little cat claws tear away bandages and decayed flesh.

Lance blasts Uthvas, who takes the full brunt of the electrical shock.

Hobie activates his invisibility, and heads away from the mummy. Good thing as Murphys wall drops down and would surely put him out of it.

Murphy conjures up a ring of fire. (Note: It can only be a wall or a ring. it cannot be shaped). The ring encompasses The mummy, Bliss, Kezzem, Pressi, Harper and the zombies. All inside take 4 dmg... enough to drop the mummy and the zombies. Pressi, and Bliss need a DC 15 Fort Save from the zombie gore exploding over them.

Somewhere inside, Murphy draws up the courage to drop an ice storm on top of Uthvas. The necromancer looks annoyed.

Harper does what any pet would do... wets those around it. Luckily the paralys wears off, and the animal is free to move again.

"No.. No.. sweet thing" the voice says. " I am not going to tell you the plan. What I will do is watch your friends die, and ask Uthvas if he could spare you. Maybe then you'll understand the plan."

Uthvas wipes a glob of sleet away, and protects against some hail... " Murphy... you talk too much. So shut up.. and die already." 5 bolts leave the humans fingers, slamming into Murphy and sening him into blackness. (22 dmg).

The skeletal creature turns his attention to Bliss.. twice he slams the cat for 10+19 dmg... and the tongue licks the cat... DC 21 fort save.

[Note: Dear DM, did you note that when the monster attacked Bliss (two slams and a tongue), then it also took 23 hp damage from his bramble armor?]

Bliss makes his first fort save, fails against the tongue, uses a hero point to reroll, and makes the save on the second try.

Bliss twists away from that nasty tongue. He says, "MEOWWWRR!" which loosely translates as "You don't lick the cat! The cat licks YOU!"

He takes a few wallops of damage too! YEOW!

Bliss decides he needs to fight defensively. That boosts his AC by +3 but gives hims a -4 to hit. His new AC is 26. He also decides NOT to use his Power Attack, at least not until he knows the AC of this monster. That gives him back a +2 to hit. Bliss is still raging, and still attacking at +11 for 1d2+9 arcane strike claw damage.

His two attacks against the enemy: He hits AC18 and AC28 (adjusted) for 11 and 11 damage.

Bliss tries to figure out the thing's AC...

If the monster hits Bliss's improved AC26, then it takes 6 for the first blow that lands, then +9 for the second, then +5 for the last, thanks to the Bramble Armor.

From Air elemental to whirlwind rules
If the whirlwind's base touches the ground, it creates a swirling cloud of debris. This cloud is centered on the creature and has a diameter equal to half the whirlwind's height. The cloud obscures all vision, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. Creatures 5 feet away have concealment, while those farther away have total concealment. Those caught in the cloud of debris must succeed on a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell.
Whirlwind Murphy touched the ground toward the tail end of his move, and thus kicked up a swirling cloud of debris. Assuming the 5 missiles cast from Uthvas' fingers were from the magic missile spell, the missiles strike the target unerringly, "so long as it has less than total cover or total concealment." The debris field around Murphy is 15 feet thick. Aside from having a -4 from being in the ice storm, Uthvas' vision - even darkvision - does not penetrate that thickness of obscurement - Murphy is in total concealment. Thus unaffected by the missile barrage, I think? Let me know, DM Shawn. Thank you.

Brian - I think so.
"Despair (Su) All creatures within a 30-foot radius that see a mummy must make a DC 16 Will save or be paralyzed by fear for 1d4 rounds. Whether or not the save is successful, that creature cannot be affected again by the same mummy's despair ability for 24 hours. This is a paralysis and a mind-affecting fear affect. The save DC is Charisma-based." - Mummy ability

Paladin ability - "Aura of Courage (Su): At 3rd level, a paladin is immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects. This ability functions only while the paladin is conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead."

Also, as the object of fear is now down, even if one were paralyzed by fear - would that now be released? Dunno

Pressi thought about what Garron said. She watched as Murphy struggled for life in vain, of all that time together.

Can I save him? Breathe of life after a cure curse spell? Unfrozen in seconds? Will you allow me to save him?

She does not expect an answer.

Your analysis is lacking as far as I can tell. Most of us still alive and fighting. Only two of you left. And plenty of resources on our side. What stops me from running, or turning that thing on Uthvas, or just standing here partially invulnerable. You saw what I can do with a bag of flour, and gave me fourth level spells. That will be quite a front row seat to the show, won't it.

It doesn't have to be that way. Let him go, let them go, and I will walk to Garron with open arms. You can stand that beast to guard if you so desire, but you can trust my word. You know what he means to me.... And now, what power means to me, too. I need him, don't I?

Bliss' bramble armor shreads the skeletal creature from where he struck. One of his cat claws scratches in and wounds the skeletal creature some more.

Hobie steps aside and downs a much needed healing potion.

Lance blasts the necromancer again. Both strikes hit. It seems as if the electricity isnt fully woundinh him.

Kezzems Paralysis was fear based.

Harper races forward and bites into the necromancer. The wound doesnt look to effect Uthvas. The trip doesnt succeed either.

Pressi's paralysis wears off.

(Forgot to roll the fort save from earlier - just made it.)

(also adjusted hp)

Pressi scrambled again, trying to figure out what made Garron so very optimistic. What was she missing?

It would be nice if Maab gave her even a tiny hint about what they are facing before she wastes all her resources and hero points. Well, that's life apparently.

(What really hurt is that if she does need to do the curse+breathe, she won't have an action to dismiss the blink. Luck hasn't always been her forte.)

Pressi ran towards Murphy, hoping for a miracle.

Remove Curse... lands upon Murphy. (CL Level is 12). She hopes it is enough, knowing she won't have any feedback to change course.

With a sigh (last hero point spent), she reaches out to cast breathe of life... and connects. (Heal=25+7 for 1 rerolled = 32 HP)

As the energy flows through him, she dares not breathe. She takes some time to look around the area, eyeing Uthvas carefully. (Perception 35)

Harper's tail waves back and forth to her soft growls as she eyes Uthvas slowly.

"All the power in the world won't fill the hole in your heart," she said finally. "All the time in the world is worthless if you don't truly use it."

Murphy draws upon whatever reserves he may have left as he hears Uthvas' words to him to "die already." [I don't believe he can see Uthvas, just as I do not believe Uthvas can see Murphy whatsoever through the 15' radius (not height, but radius all about) of dust, but he can hear him.] Spending his last two hero points to cheat death, the druid draws himself down as small as he can get in an attempt to avoid as much as he can of whatever it is that the wicked necromancer is sending his way. He must resist the will of this bent and twisted man, and disobey his will, that he may fight on with his friends to prevent what the kidnapper, murderer, stirrer up of giants, and perverter of people wishes to accomplish against the halflings of Crescent Valley. Uthvas must die, and Murphy must live to help effect that end. If he still retains consciousness, he wild shapes to an earth elemental, and sinks beneath the earth, to travel in a diagonal path taking him 15' down and 15' to the left.

If what he did was enough to mitigate the damage that Uthvas did, rather than eliminate it (say, to half damage of 11, rather than full?), and he lies unconscious - would it be as a non-whirlwind air elemental? or in his halfling form? If then, Pressi's first spell allows her second to work, does he receive her healing?

What happens here will be dependent upon our DM's adjudication, so the description of his action, if any will have to await that response.

(I'm assuming he's frightened) so he takes off, double moving to get outside of the building and as far away from Uthvas as he can.

"WHY DID MY COUSIN MAKE ME JOIN YOU GUYS!?!?! THIS ISN"T WORTH IT!!!!"

ADM Kim - note on saving throw for Hobie
Friday October 20th, 2017 1:10:32 AM

Note for Hobie - if Hobie is within 10 feet of Kezzem, he gains an additional +4 on his saving throw, so, would make it. Both Hobie and Kezzem are within dagger range of the undead necromancer, so there is at least a chance they are that close to each other. As a paladin, Kezzem grants all allies within 10 feet of him a +4 on fear effects.

Murphy Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) In the spirit world
Friday October 20th, 2017 1:34:31 AM

Murphy really was not asking or demanding that Eberyon drop whatever he is doing to come to his aid. He simply reminds him of his devotion, and makes the request - to be granted or not according to the will of the Power, whether now, or at a time of his choosing. Murphy is servant, not master.

To the freed halflings, Murphy nods his head. "Uthvas is a skilled dissembler. Uh, deceiver, that is. Nice - in a way - to meet you, Miller. Jax. Evan. Corey. Setty. And, sorry to meet under such circumstances." He scratches his spiritual nose, though it does not really itch. "I need to tell you, it is likely that, via my friends, I - and perhaps others of the Sword - may soon visit Lord Gargul. Now, this is entirely within the will of that great Lord - but I ask you - if he were to grant it - and there is no guarantee he will - would any of you want to petition him to allow you to return to life?

"Because, if so, and if he grants it, who of you could help the leadership of the white shirts figure out how to help their members find wise ways to help strengthen Crescent Valley, and defend our land against foes of what has been a fairly peaceful way of life? And not worship Humble's Sword, but work as partners in understanding and furthering our goals?"

He pauses a beat, and adds, "Because, if you are willing, and we be granted more time to walk the Wold, I will do what I can to help you in such a quest."

Murphy regards the countenances of the five halflings, trying to see if what he is asking strikes a note of resonance with any. With his peripheral vision, he also tries to see if he discerns any threads of Wold's Blood, as he saw the last time Uthvas put him on this side of the veil.

"Ok," she said as Murphy refused to stir. "Ok."

Murphy slid from her hands.

Pressi moved towards Uthvas, her eyes not blinking, her glare studying Uthvas. Behind her, the chain sparked blue against the floor. Beside her, Harper let out some more growls.

Harper moved behind Uthvas, cutting his escape as Pressi moved within 10 feet of him.

"You wanted me as a trophy? Here I am."

Pressi swings her chain at his head. (Attack 15, damage 3, ice 6, sneak 3). Harper tries clawing at Uthvas (attack 1: Nat 20, crit confirm 18, damage 6 x/2)(attack 2: 25, damage 6).

DM Shawn - The End?
Sunday October 22nd, 2017 4:49:04 AM

Bliss moves up to Uthvas, and gives the necromancer a scratch.

Squirrel Lance scampers into the underbrush, Hobie follows suit.

Pressi is obviously distraut, and moves to finish Uthvas. She doesnt connect, but Harper does.

Kezzem is the one that connects and hurts Uthvas. The smute evil, and possibility of undead plays in the paladins favor, the dagger embeds itself in Uthvas' forehead.. his mouth stretches back in a scream showcasing two enlarged canines.

" this is not over..." he manages to say, as he falls back onto the ground. His body rapidly decaying... finally dead.

The halfling in the dark is about to answer Murphy, when instead he says..m " Not yet Murphy, not yet."

Murphy draws in a sudden rush of air, as he finds himself lying on the ground back at the battle.

Ooc: I appreciate that Kim..

Pressi looked down at the squirrel scurrying about the room. "Quiet as he currently is, I should probably do something about that."

Pressi casts dispel magic on Lance (Roll 21 - that should do it unless Uthvas was greater than L10, and he didn't have the casting of an L11 guy.).

Murphy Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) Back from the brink
Sunday October 22nd, 2017 11:18:51 PM

Murphy gets up on an elbow. "Hullo?" he says weakly, and sinks back down for a moment, noting the sounds of battle have ended. He turns over on his side, and reaches into the lower part of his back, slipping his fingers into a small pouch there. He pulls out a piece of paper, closes the pouch, then pulls out an inkwell and pen from his haversack. The druid flattens the paper on the ground, opens the inkwell, dips the pen. He scratches onto the paper this:
Miller. Jax. Evan. Corey. Setty.

Murphy caps the inkwell; stows it with the pen. Slowly, he rises. He walks with halting steps toward the porch. He faces where he saw the five white shirts souls sitting. "I will not forget you five." He holds up the paper with their names written thereupon, and says their names aloud. "We will find your families. We will speak with remaining white shirts. For you - I pray you each find consolation in the lands of rest. I will find consolation in saving others of your faith from deception where I might, and help to forge among them a force for good for halflings of our valley, and for those of good will."

Then he sits on the porch and looks out, trying to focus his eyes upon whom he sees. "Pressi. Kezzem. Bliss. Harper." He holds out a shaky hand. "Where is Hobie? And Lance? Is... is Uthvas defeated?" He pushes himself up once more, and staggers toward Pressi, holding out his hand to take hers. "Those of struck by the zombies, whether today or back at the farm - we need curing of disease. I think. I heard, and sensed you trying to heal me, Press. Something inside me resisted. Not I, but something inside." He caresses Pressi's hand against his cheek for a moment, and sinks back to the ground, letting go. Trying to project, his rasps out, "The walls are thin between me and the spirit world, Pressi. We need this healing before we try to close the other two places." He coughs four or five times, and some blood falls from his mouth to the ground. "Perhaps... Mother Sarabella. Or, with wand or scrolls from the Catacombs."

He then prays a very brief prayer. "Thank you, Eberyon."

Murphy Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) Back from the brink
Monday October 23rd, 2017 8:51:13 PM

"Ah, there's Hobie," Murphy says, and coughs again.

"That foul wizard is Uthvas Bethud. He is a taxidermist and necromancer from Bright Springs, down in the Red Hills. We rescued from his place several weeks ago two wizards of the Second Dinner Club - they take care of the giant towers. He was trying to 'distill their essence.' It did not work, and they survived, though somewhat worse for wear."

Murphy takes a few breaths. "He did manage to distill the essence of giant from a hill giant - whom we also rescued, and who has since helped us. Uthvas had some of his constructs kill me during the rescue. Our group showed him a measure of mercy. He returned the favor by deceiving and corrupting members of the white shirts - a group that fancies they are our followers, or ::cough:: appreciators. He is a foul, perverse, and wickedly brilliant mass of undead flesh and bone. He lies dead yonder. He turned undead sometime since we last saw him in Bright Springs, and now."

Taking another few breaths, then a drink of water, he asks, "Kezzem, Pressi, all - who killed him? We need to examine his remains with care - while wearing gloves, then burn him, and those he turned against us, to ashes." He grimaces a moment, then asks, "Has anyone cast detect magic on our opponents?"

Murphy eases himself down, and lies on his back. Even hovering near death, the druid does not halt his garrulous tongue. "This building needs to be further explored. The fungus needs to be understood, and perhaps destroyed. There may be others within, alive or dead. There may be some material goods which would be of use to us. Most of all, though - many of us have been exposed to the zombies, and their blows, and their ichor. That cannot have good effects on us. We should try cure disease. Perhaps remove curse." Murphy is not aware that Pressi already tried remove curse on him, and still was unable to heal him. "And, maybe between Sarabella Lovesong - cleric of Flower and knowledgeable about some things relating to plants, and Madame LaRue, our town's chief herbalist, we can find out more about the fungus in the basement - its source, its effects, and how to deal with it."

Finally, he takes out a goodberry, and chews it slowly, paying close attention, to see if it has any healing virtue for him. If so, he gains 1 hit point.

[I do not know Murphy's current hit point total. I am not absolutely certain the 2 hero points to cheat death are why he is still alive. Did he spend those points? Though I can make guesses, things are a bit unresolved in my mind, and any clarifications would be welcomed.]

DM Ken: Murphy should consider his hit point total at 1, for the time being. It was not so much cheat death, but DM fiat from Shawn that kept you alive. He didn't want the last act in his time here to be telling you that no, you are super dead!

DM Ken
Monday October 23rd, 2017 9:13:16 PM

Humble's Sword take a moment to catch their breath and think about what just happened.

Not only did they find the lair of another of Uthvas Lieutenants, but they actually found, and destroyed the Vampire himself. Still, not everything was quite in order.

None of Murphy's or Harpers wounds are responding to healing magic. It seems the disease carried by the undead is going to take some time to sort out, unless the diseases are removed magically. In the mean time, both would be well served by being careful.

Perhaps even worse, was the fact that Lance's squirrel form was not responding to the dispel magic.

(Baleful polymorph appears as a curse in the Core Rulebook glossary under afflictions. That section states, "Curses can be cured through magic, however, usually via spells such as remove curse and break enchantment. It is my current sentiment that dispel magic won't work.)

Lance finds his squirrel body a conundrum. Having kept control over his mental faculties, he still has access to his skills, feats, spell like abilities, and other such powers. He could for example, still use the powers from his elemental bloodline.

Spells will be trickier, as his paws and chitters cannot quite replicate speech or form arcane gestures. Any spells he could cast without those two requirements however, still seem very much possible.

Of course, his gear is melded into form, and only those that provide continuous bonuses seem to be still working.

-----------------------

In the smoky and charred remains of Uthvas, you find the following.

A potion.
A robe.
Masterwork dagge
An amulet.
A belt.
A cloak.
Goggles.
A headband.
A spellbook.
A purple crystal

In addition, there is a large sack of blood rubies, which appear to be quite valuable.

--------------------------------------------

In Uthvas final moments, Garon's presence in Pressi's mind begins to fade.

"Well played, girl. I suspect we will never meet again, if I have my way anyhow. If we do meet, and you recognize me, do me a favor and keep walking! I'm not evil you know. I just want to be left alone to my research, but now I suspect Mt. Bone, that cursed book, and I are going to have to have a few words..."

With that final bit of knowledge, with some obvious fear creeping into his words, Garon starts to fade from Pressi's mind. She isn't sure, but she thinks he might be holding on just long enough to hear her reply, if any.

[FYI: Murphy was not touched by the mummy - he never really came near it. He was struck by the zombies before the mummy appeared, and failed his save one time. THANK YOU for the info regarding Murphy's survival, and Shawn's kind decision.]

As his friends, presumably, lay out their enemies possessions, Murphy casts detect magic, taking time to focus on each item for a few rounds to try to determine the characteristics of each.
A potion. [Knowledge: Arcana: 20; Spellcraft: 9]
A robe. [KA: 14; SpCr: 9]
Masterwork dagger. (non-magic, I presume? - so focus on it if it does not radiate magic)
An amulet. [KA: 23; SpCr: 27]
A belt. [KA: 20; SpCr: 13]
A cloak. [KA: 17; SpCr: 25]
Goggles. [KA: 19; SpCr: 24]
A headband. [KA: 15; SpCr: 13]
A spellbook. [KA: 20; SpCr: 9]
A purple crystal. [KA: 15; SpCr: 16]
Last KA of 14 and last SpCr of 27 - likely nothing to use them on. d3=3 was a misroll.
Murphy tells others what he is able to discern about the items, asks for help on the items he is not certain about. Likely has a fair chance to ID the amulet, and maybe some of the other items.

"Perhaps some of the other creatures have items, too." He slowly walks about the battlefield, casting detect magic where other opponents fell. He does not feel up to rummaging about or moving things, though.

"I feel that if I stub my toe, I shall die," he confesses to Kezzem.

"Hi, Mister Squirrel. What are you doing about?" he asks politely.

Also, Even in my own mind, I keep running into guys who say 'mount bone' to me.

Pressi wept as Murphy held her in his arms, kissing his lips and neck. "You really REALLY have to stop doing that," she muttered to him. "I almost... well, we can discuss that later. Since the worst seems to be over...." She makes an attempt at remove disease on Murphy. (Since she already cast remove curse on him, it should work. Roll 22). (That unfortunately finishes my L2 spells, so no more remove curse or disease and my Rogue splash means no break enchant yet. Sorry Tanner.)

She assists Murphy in looking through the items Uthvas had and in checking the other monsters (For anything he can't identify, Spellcraft 18, Know Arcane 8, Perception 16, Know Religion 4). She assists Bliss in making a search through the entire building, looking through the basement and 3rd floor as places not yet searched. She figures they will ask about the fungus later.

In response to Murphy's question about who killed Uthvas, she kind of twitched. "That might be something else for later," she replied.

"... So I think the voice in my head is gone, at least for now. I haven't heard him in a while," she finished telling Murphy about the conversations she had and the deal she attempted to make. She had waited until they were in private, not wanting to risk the suspicion of the others on the team at least of yet.

"So, that's what I learned. Uthvas was working for Garron, Garron has partners, Garron insists he wants to be left alone, cough bull waste cough cough, some book, Mt. Bone... And they weren't attacking me with damage because they need to catch me alive. Which means they know about my new build, and that....

"Well, look, I still hold out hope that I can somehow convince them to trust me. But it sounds like they're more interested in my body than my mind. So if I'm going to be their latest "recruit" instead, I think I need to build a better reputation."

30,000 for the entire module folks. This should be enough to put all of you at level 10 with a bit of leftover.

Also, with the parties easy access to remove curse and remove disease, consider all the afflictions removed, even those from your previous failed saves with the exploding zombies.

Hobie will gather up any of the things that Murphy points out to him as interesting, and put them in a pile. He's very interested in what these things might turn out to be.

He smiles broadly as he lifts the bag of rubies up and down, feeling the weight. "We've taken out a great evil, which is the important thing, but it seems we're walking away with some nice prizes as well!"

OOC: Nothing too special for Hobie at this level, he took an 8th level of Rogue, and now his sneak attack causes bleed damage.

Murphy and Pressi work together to identify the following items.

Dagger. (Just Masterwork)
Potion of Invisibility
Amulet of Natural Armor +3
A Cloak of Displacement
Goggles of Night
A focus crystal for the magic jar spell.

The following items remain a mystery.

A belt. [KA: 20; SpCr: 13]
A headband. [KA: 15; SpCr: 13]
A spellbook. [KA: 20; SpCr: 9]

The spellbook itself will require the spells within to be deciphered individually to determine its value.

With everyone more or less healed, or able to be healed, (make sure to track wand charges) Humbles Sword seems to have a chance to catch their breath. It's unlikely that the other remaining sites need to be checked anymore, as it seems Uthvas and his final lackeys were all found in the same place.

Without the necromancer breathing down their back, it would seem that the halflings have some time on their hands, and nowhere in particular to be.

Bliss tells his friends not to worry about him. He can heal himself.

(Over the next few days, Bliss can totes do the job).

He also tries to cure disease and remove curses.

He looks for a chance to do his WLA training.

He looks at the remaining magical items and tries to master them:

Spellcraft checks 30, 25, 35

The next day, Bliss is excited to show off a new trick. "Look what I can do!" the fellow morphs into a young halfling, a middle-aged halfling, and then an elderly halfling. "I can even do it as a kitty!" He laughs delightedly. [OOC: Bliss is trying out his new Threefold Aspect spell.]

And finally, Bliss decides he has to do something about these white-shirt people who are so silly. He looks for the party's fans and tries to find a couple of the ones with more common sense. He offers them a job! Fan Club Officers! They can help with his spells, take care of orphans and other good works around town, and try to keep fellow fans out of trouble. [OOC: Bliss has two followers coming. Maybe this is a way to get them?]

Murphy Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) HP 1/76. Back from the brink
Wednesday October 25th, 2017 12:42:55 AM

A few tears fall from Murphy's eyes as his re-formed love kisses him. He trembles, from weakness, and for gratitude.

Murphy does query each member of the group as to what happened during the combat, and in particular for the period of time where he touched on the first step into the afterlife. He thanks each for their role, and Kezzem for the finishing blows. He is glad that Lance has become less squirrelly.

He forestalls Kezzem's ministrations with the wand of cure light wounds until the cure disease has first been cast, then receives the healing with gratitude.

He tells the group of his encounter with five of the now dead undead. "They are in much better spirits now - no, I wasn't trying to be funny - and feel very sad they were deceived by Uthvas into doing anything that might harm us." He gives their names, and, where a corpse has enough face left to tell who it was, he identifies whom he can with their body.

Pyre
Speaking of bodies - after identifying whom they may, the druid ensures the bodies are incinerated, summoning a few fire elementals to burn them to ashes.

Except, for the five he spoke with, he will endeavor to keep some small part of each, writing a note as to which body part (likely hair, or a finger) belongs to which person, and keeping each in a separate small bag, with name, description, and a penned sketch of each - based upon what their spirits looked like as they sat upon the porch. "I don't know whether we will be able to appeal to Lord Gargul to return any of them to life, but, having some of their remains may allow that as an option, if their spirits are willing to vacate the lands of rest for additional time here."

Communal Building
Once healed, he asks who are willing to finish up exploring the building (maybe finding more treasure?), further evaluating and dealing with the fungus (with consultation with Madame LaRue, at least). And fixing it so that it does not mess up anyone else. If the building can be purified, let it be so. If not, then he requests permission to burn it to the foundation.

White Shirts
He discusses the promise he made to the spirits of the deceased white shirts. He agrees with Bliss that we need to reach out to them - and provide some solid guidance. He aids his friend in his endeavors. Over the next few days Murphy tries to find the families, friends of Setty, Miller, Jax, Evan and Corey. He figures some will want to know, others may be angry at Humble's Sword for the troubles besetting the white shirts. He does, in such a case, recommend Uthvas Bethud as the object of their anger - who kidnapped two members of the Second Dinner Club, and who subverted many White Shirts, deceiving them strongly. And asks for help in getting the truth out about Humble's Sword. "We are not some sort of little gods to be worshipped. We are just people, with certain skills, trying to help and defend our town, our people, and the Crescent Valley way of life. We cannot do it all on our own - each able citizen with affection for their homeland should do what they can to help in their own way."

WLA Training
Murphy attends with Bliss and any others who wish to update their training in Angel Springs with the Woldian League of Adventurers.

Magic Distribution
"We earlier had an amulet of natural armor, which we sold. I think I need the amulet (+3) - it's way too easy for people to hit me - and it will work even when I wild shape."
He has no objection to Lance's desire for the cloak of displacement.

Family and Friends
He proposes a dinner for all at Humble's Sword's burrow near the river. He asks Hobie, "Would you care to join us for more adventures? You gave us good information on the Communal Building, and showed yourself skilled in combat. Tell us your thoughts, Hobie."

Giant Tower Clarification
Is the tower to the north of the town again fully functional and reintegrated into the multi-tower ley-line grid which defends the valley from really biguns? In other words, did the three members of the SDC fix it before Garron went rogue?

Alone with Pressi
"It's been a busy night and - after a sleep break - day and start of night," Murphy says to Pressi. "Though it may appear I was totally preoccupied with, I dunno, fungus - I did note you occasionally seemed to be engaged in an inner conversation. I figured you would let me know what was going on at a time of your choosing. Though you quickly mentioned sensing Garron inside you - you made haste to cover your tracks on that one as Lance seemed quite concerned about the notion. I think Bliss noted the duality. Thank you, Press, for filling me in." He winces at times as she describes the conversations she had with the inner Garron. Murphy alternates between frustration and humor at the fragmentary wizard's opinions regarding himself. "So, I'm a cowardly idiot, eh? That's news to me," he chuckles. He looks at his hands. "Between our erstwhile friends and our enemies, lately, I feel a mite misjudged."

"Regardless, I am glad that Garron has fled your mind. Despite his claim to not be evil, I think he has misjudged himself. His deeds of this past day have proven evil. Feigning hospitality, then sending monsters to slay us, and trying to possess your soul. In league with Uthvas. Neutral? Nope. Garron has stepped boldly toward wicked as far as I can discern."

"Ah, Mount Bone - which we've already been told about, and where Uthvas sought the evil book. Likely we'll come across him again. With Uthvas promising this is not over with - I doubt it's over. But for now, we have won, and his most recent body is useless. Wonder where his amulet is? Does the physical Garron have it?"

"Oh, and, me asking about goings-on when I'm not in the same place, even though you have the message spell going? I can hear you, and others on the message chain - but I could not hear the halflings you were conversing with - so it helps to fill in the gaps. Keep using the message spell - it's not useless at all. Just not a total communication package."

Finally, he asks her, "Say, shall we pick a night and go dancing, my heart?"

With Harper feeling better, Pressi takes some time to recheck some of the items, rolling as follows:

belt (KA 20, spcr 29)
Headband (KA 19, spcr 28)

For the spellbook, she asks if anyone has the read magic cantrip. Otherwise, she flips through a page or two, making a couple of spellcraft rolls. (Nat 20, 23, 20).

She asks Bliss if he wants the Magic Jar gem before taking it herself. With others taking the cloak of displacement and the amulet of natural armor, there isn't much in the pile left. (There are nice items, just stuff she has.) She also welcomes Hobie aboard, and relaxes that he and lance aren't killing each other. (She also gets the enchantment thing - she might want to upgrade her chain as well.)

-------------

The next day, (after a night of dancing), Pressi and Bliss begin to make plans for what appears to be an impressive coven (they get four followers each). Like Bliss and Murphy, she agrees that better outreach to their fan club and searches for smarter members might yield a crop less likely to get captured or spread poisons, but focuses primarily on ex-members and sidelined members that might have shown an independence.

To Bliss' general church of faith, spells and good works, she begins to develop a wing devoted to capturing and holding wrongdoers. This might require even more space than the other, requiring resources to track fugitives and space to hold them. She asks her team mates how they might feel about trying to capture the (non-undead non-construct) evildoers.

She takes some time to smirk at Bliss, who just learned a spell that's been on her books for an entire week now. (Though they have similar builds, Bliss is a CL behind Pressi.) She really only received one new trick recently, and she can't really show it off here.

She also takes some time to go out upon the community, gauging just how much of an outsider she really is and how much their view of her has changed. To that end, she tells the rest of the group about her discussions with Garron. (Boy, did he think little of you guys. Though she thinks at least in regards to Murphy that Garron was trying to get MORE under her skin.)

Bliss is happy to train with Murphy. He does have a comment, thought. "Mister Murphy, it sure is a nuisance when you are shaped like something that can't talk. Have you and Miss Pressi thought about a Permanency Spell to share a Telepathic Bond? It's expensive, but I know she worries about you."

***NOTE***

DM Error. The Cloak was not a Cloak of Displacement, but rather a Cloak of Resistance +2. The Robe was a Robe of Blending.

Sorry about that!

**************

Belt = Belt of mighty constitution +2
Headband = Headband of Intellect +2

Bliss and Pressi continue to blend closer and closer together in terms of ability, while drifting farther and farther apart in terms of approach. While there is no such thing as a stereotypical blood witch, seeing as those practitioners have a near limitless range of possibilities when developing their power, both of them seem to be cast from completely different molds.

This of course, makes the dynamic of their service to Maab interesting to the casual observer.

Speaking of observers, one of the white shirts is easily tracked down, who fits Pressi's search. An older halfling, 42 years of age, who was booted from the White Shirts because she wasn't young, or hip enough, to stay in the group. This woman, Chicory, had demonstrated some minor magical talents, and could probably use a teacher.

As time passes, accounts of Pressi's new powers begin to circulate. While she never really feels outcast, she does often hear the conversations about herself to include mostly compliments, such as "Even if she is an odd one, what with that witchcraft and whatnot, Pressi is still Pressi, and Humbles Sword means to look out for us all."

So while she's marked as "A strange one", a moniker that should be completely familiar to Bliss by now, given his penchant for being something of a teacup halfling, at no point has she openly felt unwelcome.

------------------------------------------

Hobie finds that his relatives are incredibly pleased with the name he's quickly made for himself. Lance discovers that life as a squirrel isn't the worst thing ever, and once he finds someone with Break Enchantment, it will all be over.

------------------------------------------

Murphy, as always, is very busy. He invites Hobie to join them permanently, and so long as there is money and fame, Hobie seems to be in agreeance.

The tower to the north is -not- restored. It seems Garon undid as much of the work as he completed, when the others weren't observing.

The community building is burned from the ground up, and no signs of the fungus remain.

Kezzem has no large plans, but requests his share of the goods in gold. And speaking of gold, the blood rubies are appraised for a hefty sum of 48,000 gold. Split evenly, that comes to a base of 8,000 gold per person, on top of any catacombs value for the items recovered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Regarding loot split, the easiest thing to do is to add it all up, divide it out, and take your shares that way. Don't worry about your current WBL. I'll bring anyone behind up with a clearly targeted drop, which will also be announced as a targeted drop in the DM posts. DO make sure your total wealth is accurate on your sheets.)

To Turn a Squirrel
"A scroll of break enchantment, scribed by a paladin, costing 1,000 gp, and read by Kezzem, could help you, Lance, regain your charming halfling visage. If the cleric Tendel were with us, he could cast the spell. If Shel, our sorceress, had not left, she, by now, may have been able to cast it. Perhaps the holy mother Sarabella Lovesong of the Temple of Flower can cast it. Let's check with her." And Murphy does so.

"So, Lance Squirrel - those are options. If Sarabella cannot do so, do you want to come with Bliss and me to Angel Springs? Maybe a WLA officer may be able to help transform you back."

Giant Tower
This must be a priority. Murphy wants to consult with the two good wizards of the SDC to see if they can fix some of the things that Garron sabotaged. Via his family grapevine, he again sends out word that the town could use the help of his cousin through his father's twin sister, Aunt Shanzi Lips Pastna Pipewood, and Uncle Jonno 'Vines' Swordfern Trufflefinder - their son Grigory Hamwich Fern Pipewood Trufflefinder, a 14th level wizard. Shoot, he could take care of Lance, too, besides working on the tower, and was born here in Humble's Ford. He is a few decades older than Murphy, but they know each other from some family get togethers when younger, moreso by reputation.

White Shirts
Murphy is pleased with the progress Bliss and Pressi are making with them, especially as he learns about Chicory. Again, he does seek to find the families and/or friends of the whiteshirts from the Communal Building - also the ones he sketched over at the farm.

Meeting with Roscoe
Likely the group will need to meet with Roscoe before they head off to Angel Springs for training with the WLA. So, early the morning Constable Roscoe appoints, Murphy ensures everyone wakes, eats, and goes to see just what it is that the official might have for them.

Journaling
As he does while adventuring at least once a day, Murphy keeps up his journals, writing detailed accounts of those things he and Humble's Sword do, say, and accomplish.

He still is having a hard time processing the departures of his good friend Shel, and of Alleah. And puzzlement about the disappearance of Sky, without a word.

Is it time to contact prior members of the group, to see if they might be interested in rejoining them?

WLA
Murphy consults with the WLA about revamping some of his skill sets, after talking some of these things over with Pressi, Lance, Kezzem and Bliss. He'll include Hobie in the conversation, too. "I've seen each of you - well, except for Hobie - change around skills and abilities, especially in recent times. If you have suggestions for me that could help me be a better overall fit for our group, I'm open to listening."

"I can't decide! Should I ask for a Shock enchantment, or a Flame enchantment? They both have their merits, and I just can't decide!"

He will also head to the local tavern, with his cousin, Constable Roscoe, filling him in on everything that happened since he asked Hobie to join the group.

When the day comes for the group to meet with the constable, having crashed at the Roscoe's place during his stay in town, Hobie will already be there waiting as the other party members begin to show up.

While she doesn't have Break Enchantment (a side effect of splashing Rogue instead of going pure BW), she does have remove curse, a second level spell that the clerics (and an earlier DM ruling) insists will also change the polymorph. (The only reason she didn't try this before was that she ran out of spells and she figured that the clerics that helped Harper would also help Lance.)

Pressi gets 4+1 casts a day of L2 spells. She spams Remove Curse until it breaks through, even if it takes a couple of days.

Murphy doesn't really respond to the idea of a permanent telepathic link. Pressi almost flips out right there on Bliss. "Look, I get the tactical benefits," she concedes "but I still have a room outside of the guild hall. I won't even share a streaming password with him because I don't want to owe him... Ok, breathing, remember to breathe..."

She accepts the new ways the society looks at her, and begins recruiting in earnest, telling potential followers to find her at the Dancing Pig (more of this to follow). She also starts hitting the libraries and the temple. She considers reaching out to see if Alleah and Shel made it home, but considers against it. She even uses her new talents once avoiding a Shel looking halfling on the street.

Chicory is of course welcomed with opened arms.

She takes some time to discuss tactics and ideas with Murphy (Kim and I have been going over some build and gameplay ideas so that he might survive the next boss battle.) She figures she might need more training from the WLA (how does it work going from L9 to L10, is it any more money? is it just +1 skill point?)

Lance does find some help with his condition. The high priestess at the temple of flower helps make sure he is right as rain in no time. While she does not charge him, she insists that he find an opportunity to serve another, as she has served him.

Kezzem does his best to oversee the funerals of the fallen white shirts. Considering Gargul, he is fairly certain that the curmudgeonly old god would want him to make sure and use the fallen fans as a teaching experience, to make sure that others aren't as wasteful with the lives they were blessed with.

Murphy insists on hurrying along the remaining two wizards of the Second Dinner Club, but finds that his insistence at aid is being found as something of a nuisance. Stinging from a second betrayal, unsure exactly how to undo Garons sabotage, and not willing to trust anyone else but themselves for a time, the SDC politely, but firmly, shooes Murphy away.

Murphy finds, in a stroke of luck, that the families he seeks are all related. The fallen white shirts who greeted him in the afterlife were all related, cousins, second cousins, and a pair of brothers.

Hobie considers some various methods of enchantment on his bow, Prowler. Flame? Shock? He recalls fewer creatures have resistance to electricity, but those that due are usually outright immune to it. Fire resistance is found in a lot of enemies, but a flaming arrow has other uses. Choices choices!

Pressi, who was totally willing to help Lance (but her DM got to her posts last!) finds she has not much to do other then find out how she fits in. Pressi seeks out willing followers, but other than Chicory, has little luck for now. Chicory seems to possess strong talents as a spellcaster, and some formal training as well. In the places she asks around, she gets a few odd glances, and one person promises to put the word out, but goes right back to chatting about her prize winning carrots.

Bliss seems content catting around for now, and pounces mice like they were bad guys. In his patrols of the field, he pounces a certain mouse, that quite promptly yells, "Ouch!" After a confusing moment, another Halfling, who looks eerily similar to Bliss himself, sits on her rump, rubbing her head.

"My name is Joy!", she announces. "Pleased to meet you. More pleased if you hadn't pounced me. Sorry to pry, but why were you running around as a cat?"

He has you all follow him out to the burned out hull of the community building, trashed just several days ago. A large plot of land, 360 ft by 360ft, has been marked off with large, brightly colored ribbons.

Others are in attendance here, including both Joy and Chicory, as well as the remains of the white shirts, who are no longer wearing white shirts. It seems that Murphy's talks have had some impact, and for the most part, the group seems to have disbanded, other than a few younglings who refuse to give up their role play.

Roscoe clears his throat, then gets to business.

"Humble's Ford! How about applause for Humble's Sword!"

There is some clapping and whistles from the small crowd of 30 or so Halflings, but halflings in general do not a loud ruckus make.

"The township of Humble's Ford has seen fit to deed you with this plot of land, to build here however you see fit! The funding will come from the townships in and around the valley, with a large portion of the sum to come from an un-revealed benefactor."

Roscoe shivers.

"Seriously, these folks were kind, but scary. You knew they were strong! They just said they had put an eye on Uthvas, and were pleased to see you helping others."

He gets back on topic.

"Consider this plot of land a gift from us all, and put it to good use! There's no need to do anything immediately, but maybe start building this land up as a base of operations? Ya know.. because when danger finds you all again, you'll totally be all the way over here, in this secluded area away from the rest of us, and able to fight back from inside your mighty bastion!"

He points at a halfling carrying some papers, with a monocle and a mining hat on, for no good reason.

"That is George, and he is the foreman in charge of getting you set up! Let him know when you've made up your minds!"

Roscoe waves his arms wildly.

"Three cheers for the heroes!"

While the crowd cheers, Roscoe fidgets nervously.

"Of course, you can use the guildhouse.. in the town.. for anything you need until your new place is built. And if you still need to rent it, for your uh.. witchly proceedings... now that you're all one big giant coven of witches or something, that can be arranged."

"This... this is astonishing!" Murphy says to Constable Roscoe and the small gathered crowd. "If I may speak for all of us - but don't worry, I'm sure they'll pipe up, too - we are most grateful."

Planning earlier to do some work on plantings around the river burrow, the druid pulls from the haversack (that he even wears about town) a clipping from an oak tree. He holds it aloft. "One of our goals for Humble's Ford is that it will grow, and prosper. With that in mind, I wish to plant this wee oak. It starts small, here in my hand. But with the good soil we have here in Crescent Valley, and a bit of attention and care - may it grow into a mighty oak tree, under the shade of which children may play, and friends may speak.

"Let's put it... there!" Murphy points to a place near the southeast corner, the closest part of the plot to the main part of the town. He pulls out a trowel, waves for those gathered to join him, digs a little hole, loosening the soil. "Constable Roscoe, would you do us the honor, as an official of our dear town, by placing this young plant here in the ground?" Once he has done so, Murphy claps, then gently packs the soil about it, creates just a small amount of water to rain down for a few seconds around it, and then casts a focused version of plant growth, to allow the small shoot to spring up rather quickly to the height of a few feet [if the DM will allow for this impromptu modification to the spell - have been planning to work out some plant care spells for Murphy].

Hobie is impressed, but not surprised by the constables generous gift. Hobie knows a lot of the generosity of his cousin, and this lines up with the Roscoe who has given Hobie so much over the years.

As a brand new addition to the group, and still feeling more like a hired sword than a full member of Humble's Sword, Hobie stands back with his head low, uncomfortable with the clapping and cheering of the crowd. He let's the other members do the talking, and he thinks to himself that this might be a pretty nice place to call home, IF he does end up becoming a full fledged member of the group.

Bliss is happy to make a new friend. "Wowsy! I had a sister named Joy once! Hi! I'm Bliss, and I'm an adventurer. Some day I want to be a hero. Look at my hero badge!" He shows off his WLA badge. "It means I'm like a hero in training. So far my friends and I have beat giants and ogres and goblins and undead things and other monsters."

He talks with her for a while. If she is friendly, he'll mention that he's looking for friends to work for him and help him do witchy things and to help people. Does she know anyone like that?

=====

Bliss likes the new spot, but he hopes there will be a space for a wildflower garden, and maybe a fountain and some nice trees. He's thinking maybe one of the people he hires can be a gardener.

Joy seems totally stoked to meet Bliss. "I'm like that!", she announces.

Roscoe and the folks clap as the tiny branch is planted, and augmented with Murphy's magic.

---------------

Hobie tries to resolve feeling like a hireling, as opposed to a group member. It was just recently they've all become acquainted. Hopefully, with time, he will feel more at home, either in the valley, or with the Sword.

After some clapping and chitchat, the crowd disperses. All except for the foreman, who hangs around for a short while.

"So, did anyone have any idea where I should start? Rooms? Building materials? Anything?"

Talking with foreman George
"Materials? Why, earth, wood, stone, metal, might all be good materials to include. Tell you what, this is something we need to think about and talk over. To begin with - how about something to give you and the workers some shelter and a workshop? Also - I might be able to get some strong help for very short periods of time for digging and moving things in the early stages.

"So, go ahead and get started on that. My friends and I will talk things over, and then give you an answer, say, within five days - perhaps sooner. We may be chatting with you about options during that time, too. We'll want to decide whether we are going for a series of burrows - or a huge burrow, or a castle, or a mansion, or some crazy mix of things. But first - you make the workshop and shelter. How about if it goes about there?" Murphy finds a spot about 25 feet from the edge closest to town, and 100 feet from the tiny oak. "Does that sound all right?"

Take a Bow - getting back to Hobie's query
As Hobie has asked for input, Murphy says, "Well, Hobie, good decision point. Now, both Lance and I go rather heavy on electricity." He underscores this point by casually calling down a lightning arc about ten feet away, harmlessly flowing into the ground. "You may have seen Lance's fingers crackling with electrical energy, and he called down lightning on Uthvas.

"I think we can use more fire damage, if the choice comes down to those two. Our friend, Sky, who was with us until yesterday, had a bow that did icy damage, and that was very helpful against a fire giant, and against many others, too. Not as useful against a frost giant - where fire would have served. But, it's your bow, and your call!"

For the foreman
Once back in town, Murphy contacts Pirnook Deeppockets at the General Store. "I want a cooking grill that can be used outside. We will be having workers helping us out, and want to be sure they are well fed. So, something fueled by, I suppose, wood, or - what fuel would you recommend for a grill? What options do you have, or can you get? I'd like to buy it from you to give to George, who will oversee the building project." He asks the cost, and how quickly it will be in the store.

"What do I want for my guild hall?" Pressi asks. "Oh, just the usual. Training facilities, crafting areas, large iron throne, penis storage... Oh and I will need a walk in closet for my room."

Pressi had finally dug herself out from the one thing that they never tell you is the downside of being a vengeful spirit of the night tasked with tracking monsters such as yourself: loads of paperwork. Personnel needed to be gathered, a mission needed to be decided on, she had already had to change Gods twice and deal with getting the Justicar sect to trust her provisionally... It's almost like a divine inspired closed organization devoted to the promotion of lawful society didn't entirely trust a flippant stealth based blood tinkering arcane twisted from all recognition. Who knew, right?

Backing off some on her more Justicar elements, Pressi suggests a compromise. The Pantheon worship house is a community center that provide sanctuary and comfort, perform good works, and provide regular and redemptive worship. In other words, a way to combine Bliss and Maab's interests. But of where to house what would be such an impressive set of personnel and activities, particularly given that they would want it separate from the guild hall (and accessible to everyone).

But all of that, guild hall or Pantheon hall, would come later. For now, Pressi stayed at the Dancing Pig, the holloween celebration in full force. As a witch, she needed to fully delve into the spiritual holiday that honors her outsider kin, even at the sacrifice of getting drunk. But she was also on a mission, using the festivities to observe for magic and personality traits that she might wish to recruit from.

"Kezzem - the cemetery is a walk of 60, 70 minutes from the 3 acres that have been granted to us. Can we watch over them from afar, perhaps?" Murphy gently inquires. "Shrines on the lot to Gargul, to Eberyon, to Maab, to Pantheon, to Domi, and Alemi, to Ffloy, and there must be one for Flower. Perhaps Wardd, too, though Alleah has left us, and Shel, both of whom had her own affinity for the deity of luck. Also, the Culverwood, where I was born. Bliss's ideas about having a garden and a fountain and trees are good. Perhaps an acre can be devoted to gardens and such, with shrines placed about it."

"Lance, we are called Humble's Sword. We originated here in Humble's Ford. Not in some far off place. We have been tasked many times to defend the area. Regarding permanence - very little in life is permanent. But settle here? Yes, I am certain this is where I want to be. Oh, I will always be happy to travel elsewhere, certainly. But a large part of my family and many of my friends are here. I don't want to scoot off elsewhere, and leave this behind. Others' views may vary. That is mine."

"I don't have much of an opinion on what we do with the headquarters, but I would very much appreciate a bed to lay down in, and I'd love an archery range to use for practice."

Gang - am working on a map of the new site we've been given. I've got the 'Master' map sheet, plus, for the moment, sheets called Map2, Map3. Please leave the last one, called 'Original', alone. Make merry with the rest. The additional maps - you can get rid of whatever you want, add, embellish, improve. And let's use the 'Master' for what we agree upon. Or something like that. The scale is 1 square covers 10 feet. We can make a more detailed version later.

Get your fingerpaints on. Go to town. Here is Humble's Sword Acres - and, no, we don't have to call our place that.

He thanks everyone who worked to get the loot settled. He thinks ab out what he can now buy.

DM Ken - Meaningful Dreams

There is much talk about plans for their new home.

What should they call it? What should go in it? Who should live in it? Was everyone certain they should even build in humbles?

These discussion took the forefront for some, and backseat for others. As far as Bliss and Pressi were concerned, they HAD homes already. The underside of a cooking pot and the Dancing Pig, respectively.

(All of your suggestions are great ones! Thanks to the ever vigilant ADM Kim for starting the spreadsheet on your estate before I could! )

The day passes lazily, until Hobie arrives with some stacks of money for everyone. It looks like catacombs trips might be in order now. (Make those purchases tomorrow if at all possible. We might be starting something new rather quickly.)

Night falls, and Pressi dances. Pressi drinks. She reflects on the small changes and the large changes she's made in life. After a bit of time in both song and drink, most of the halflings in the Pig who had any reservations about the Witch seem to lose them altogether.

She becomes a sought after commodity, and the dances seem to come one after the other!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That night, both Pressi and Bliss find their sleep to be fitful. The dreams that come are sharp and vivid, and for Pressi, they carry with them a bit of pain for and foreboding.

Bliss dreams of Maab. Not even Ma'ab in a general sense, but he sees what he can only assume is Maabs visage itself, exactly like he's always pictured her. She seems upset, looking back and forth from him to the edges of the valley. At one point, she runs her hand through some fertile humbles soil, and it dries out, quite quickly, to rock. Just as alarming, Bliss feels incredibly hot. Just when he thinks it's unbearable, he wakes up in a sweat.

Pressi's dream is much more succinct. She finds herself walking through Humbles Ford alone, yet aware of the ever watchful presence of The Lady Justice AND Pantheon. Both deities seem to regard her cooly, as if evaluating her, or perhaps judging her worthiness. The pressure from their combined scrutiny intensifies, and Pressi feels as though she might implode from their combined gazes. Before she succumbs however, she hears a scream, and the pressure dissapears.

Before her she sees a multitude of creatures, all inhabiting the body of one creature. Or perhaps, it's one creature constantly shifting forms? Every time she thinks she had a bead on what she's observing, it shifts again, and from it pour waves of confusion and chaos, and Pressi feels as though her grasp on just what it is that makes her, "her", is slipping away. With a startled gasp, she awakes.

--------------------------

The next morning, both Blood Witches seem particularly drained. Both Pressi, and Bliss, suffer a -2 modifier on their concentration roll to successfully gather Woldsblood for today.

Hobie looks at the plans that other's have made for the new HQ.
"That archery range looks mighty nice. I can shoot from up to 300 feet there. Perhaps I won't have too much trouble sticking around after all."

Hobie's face will grow a little more solemn as he goes to talk to the group (at some time when the whole group is gathered)
"I was hesitant to say earlier, but now I that can see that most of you have your share of darkness in your pasts, I guess I can share with you now. I used to make my living as a thief. Those days are behind me now I can promise you. Some things went wrong, my partner killed somebody, and I had to get out. My cousin Roscoe, the good constable helped me clear my name."

"I am not a thief no more, but I've still got the skills. As long as we're working for good, I don't mind using them. I'm pretty good at opening locks, at sneaking into places, and I'm not too shabby at picking pockets. If you're willing to have me as a member of Humble's Sword, I'll help in any way that I can."

It's a new day! First things first, he has an obligation to Mother Maab. He concentrates, and using his witchery pulls a drop of Woldsblood into the Wold! He has to make a concentration check vs DC14, now that he can cast 4th level spells, and the check is at -2 because of his bad dreams.

A concentration check is 1d20 +Int Mod + caster level, or 1d20+3+7, plus the -2, so 1d20+8 to get that DC14. Bliss rolls an 18, so no problem. People nearby may feel a bit funny as Bliss pulls the magical energy into our dimension. Then he sends a big chunk of that energy off to the Silver Queen, per their pact, and then uses the rest to power his spells for the day.

Task accomplished, Bliss casts his Threefold Aspect spell like he always does. Then he grabs his cauldron and goes a-looking for Miss Pressi, and also for Missy Joy and Missy Chicory.

If everybody agrees, Bliss does a Basic Ritual That lets him change into kitty shape at will. Then he'll do an Intermediate Ritual to share a Shield of Faith among himself, Miss Pressi, and Pressi's spirit companion. If Pressi wants to do her own Basic Ritual, maybe the Ritual of Warding, then Bliss will help, although he cannot benefit from it -- you cannot benefit from the effects of two Basic Rituals in the same day. If the ritual goes awry, though, Bliss would be subject to the penalty.

Anyway ...

Ritual of the Grimalkin ... Handle Animal check ... base +17 ... +5 from friends in the coven ... a net +22 vs DC20 means that failure is not an option. No need to roll.

Ritual of Sharing ... Spellcraft check ... base +22 ... +5 friends ... a net +27 vs DC30 ... the roll is a 43, so no problem. The shared Shield of Faith has a total duration of 70 rounds, and divided three ways, that's 23 non-continuous rounds each for the three sharers. [OOC: Oops, forgot to change into eldest aspect of Threefold Aspect for the ritual, which would have bestowed an extra +1, but moot because unneeded anyway!]

Happy to have worked his bloodwitch magic so well, Bliss smiles at Kezzem and says, "Thanks anyway, Sir Kezzem! I think we'll be fine here on out."

Bliss assumes his youngest aspect, changes to kitty shape, and pounces on Murphy. "Meow!" he says. Then he dashes off to the Catacombs.

In answer to Kezzem, Pressi tries to explain what is going on, but her own understanding is shaky at best. She could cast Ill Omen just by having such conversations, she realized.

With a flip of a spell and some hair of the dog, Pressi flips her drop of Woldsblood, literally making it dance. Still, she couldn't feel more unsettled about her dreams, which she assumed was a warning in regards to her own warring skills and personality.

Pressi is reading one of Miss Chicory's reports when Bliss found her. (I'm going to be introducing my followers one at a time through the rest of the week). "Jamir Badapple. Young follower of the team that tried to unseat Humbles Sword way back when through then-undisclosed magical cheating. Then followed up by going his own way, using divinations and transmutations to cheat customers until finally caught. Insists he is looking for redemption. Real problem with authority, how unusual for a halfling." Pressi closed the file. "Let's see what this guy can do."

She remarks to Hobie that ex-thieves seem to be a specialty here at the Ford. "I won't ask too much detail about what happened to make things go south. I kind of know personally what its like to still have to use the skills, but will gladly leave the thieving to you."

Pressi does have a thought about the map. "We ought to have a public area where people can come in for meetings without entering the rest of the guild house."
