Leaving Dirt City

DM Kathy
Sunday October 22nd, 2017 9:06:47 PM

[Everybody take 27,200 XP for the previous scene.]

All in all, you decide you've had enough of Dirt City--although Terser did get that swell elephant, and Reggie managed to find another tavern brawl before you departed.

Providing Rill has a Water Walk to spare, you all step off the damaged docks and walk across the harbor to where the Lionfish rides at anchor. Tula is glad to see you.

"Things are pretty tense here," she reports. "Merchants can't dock, which is putting them behind schedule--and of course, nobody really knows what's going on with the war because it's underwater. I'll be glad to get out of here."

Zeoll is keen to return to Market Island, and although Jozhur is a little homesick, you all agree to the Liontaur's plan.

Tula reports that they weren't able to re-provision, since they never did dock, so you'll need to put in somewhere along the coast for fresh supplies. Then you can head for Market Island.

Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC29/31; HP47+34=81)
Sunday October 22nd, 2017 10:35:29 PM

Just before setting out, Zeoll coordinates with his friends to divvy up the loot and sell that which is not desired.

Zeoll is sure that with the magical capabilities aboard, there will be no need to pause for reprovisioning. Create Water and Create Food and Drink will suffice. Rill may even be able to manage a Heroes' Feast?

Then it is time to sail to Market Island!

Rill is not interested in any specific items. He whips out a Water Walk scroll, and we're all soon back aboard the Lionfish.

"Greetings Tula. I can handle the provision of food and water on the way home."

Bralin boards the Lionfish with his typical stoicism. The dwarf has resigned himself to the two truths of his life - he doesn't enjoy sea travel, and he lives on an island.

As the ship sails, Bralin retreats to his corner to work on another figurine.

Each evening on the trip home, Rill will conjure a Heroes' Feast. Feeding 14, we can include most of the crew. Since it is conjured, Rill will concentrate to call forth tables, chairs and dishes that will remain appropriately stable on the deck of a sailing ship. This should give the crew something to brag about back in Bonetown. It should also make up for the gruel made by Create Food and Water the rest of the day

Monday October 23rd, 2017 10:17:13 PM

Reggie returns to Ky, who is filthy from exploring the Lionfish, and glad to see his Mommie again. He tells you all about his adventures, which you mostly understand. He shows you a short length of rope Cato gave him to practice tying knots. Ky's knots are not really standard, but he's a strong little tyke, so at least he has pulled them good and tight.

Zeoll asks about divvying up the treasure, and Bralin decides he doesn't want the Marble Elephant that badly. Though Terser has also expressed an interest in it.

Rill is able to provide food and drink for the crew, although some of it is pretty bland. Still, that means that Joansie can't actually ruin it, which is a point in its favor.

So, you sail away from Dirt City, making for Market Island. The days are still warm, although summer is waning. You don't have as much wind as you would like, but you have enough to keep moving. Still, it may take a bit longer to get where you're going.

And...what are you going to do when you get there? Do you have a plan?

Zeoll will definitely use his time for crafting his Horn of Valhalla. [OOC: Kathy, how many days of crafting can Zeoll credit to his account both coming and going in this module?]

As for the coming Market Island approach, Zeoll hopes to use this encounter to deal with as many slavers as possible. That means trying to strike on a market day. Anybody have any ideas on how to make that happen?

Rill will approach Zeoll during our voyage home.

"Zeoll, I need your help. I would like to entrust you with this." He hands the liontaur an ornate statuette of Gargul about 6 inches tall.

"If we are separated, and you either you need my help or I need yours, you can break this and say 'Rillett,' and I will be instantly transported to wherever you are if we are on the same plane. This was expensive to make, so please do not break this lightly."

Later, he will offer to the rest of the Black Lions, "I can create for any of you an item that will instantly transport you to either the Lionfish, or to Portside House in Bonetown. This is an expensive item - you will have to pay about 1,500 gold for this to be made. Perhaps we should all have them. Any interest?"

"Regarding our destination, going to Market Island before returning to Bonetown is fine. But we really should think of a better name for that place. How about Tersertopia!"

Bralin expresses interest in Rill's offer. Being able to get out of an inescapable situation seems extremely prudent, especially to one trapped in the Ice Vein for a year.

As Zeoll asks his question, Bralin recalls the man there made mention of when he expected ships. The dwarf tries to remember the duration, and then work that into the number of days the Black Lions have been away.

DM Kathy
Tuesday October 24th, 2017 10:39:47 PM

Zeoll spends more time working on his horn. [You had a total of 20 days to work on it.]

Rill has also been busy crafting, and gives Zeoll a little statue. He offers the rest of the crew items that will get them out of sticky situations--but they have to chip in for the cost because the things are kinda pricey.

Tahni makes notes in her journal, and Terser discusses them with her. Terser is also wondering about his new elephant, and whether elephants swim. In fact, they do.

Bralin tries to remember when ships arrive at Market Island. From what you remember, there wasn't a specific schedule. Ships would arrive, and when "enough" ships had gathered, there would be a sale and auction. It wasn't really clear what constituted "enough," or how long they would wait. Really, you could be anywhere in their irregular cycle.

Reggie spends time on the deck and in the rigging. You find that Ky loves being up in the rigging, and seems to have no fear of heights. "Up high, up high!" he chants, then giggles when you swing him aloft.

Your journey continues. Tahni has some suggestions about combat tactics, which Zeoll approves of. Jozhur and Terser are both sold on the merits of the Marble Elephant, but which of them should it belong to? Or should it be a general party treasure?

[OOC: The description doesn't specify, but I'd say it returns to statue form wherever it was when it got "killed." So if it was on the water, it would sink. Given your team's ability for divination and summoning, however, that should be a minor inconvenience.]

Reggie is pleased with Ky's fearlessness in the rigging. Bralin whittles a stone lion for the lad, who grasps it eagerly in a chubby fist. "Rawr!" he cries, waving the lion about. "Rawr! Rawr! I gonna eat you!"

As you get closer to Market Island, you begin to think about strategy. Do you just want to sail up to it as you did before? Or do you want to stop at a distance and spy on the place for a while?

DM Kathy

You hit on the idea of disguising your sail with an illusion, then sailing to Market Island as bold as you please. Both Jozhur and Tahni can cast Silent Image, though they would need to keep concentrating on the spell to make it effective.

Zeoll suggests a whole bunch of Arcane Mark, prompting Rill to ask whether the sail would just say "Property of Zeoll" over and over again. Which is ridiculous; obviously it would say "Property of Zeollco, Inc."

Tula points out that nobody on Market Island actually saw the Lionfish, so painting over the name would probably be good enough. Of course, if you want to make the sails look different, you can do that, too.

You get your disguises in place and sail toward the island. As you approach, you can see two fairly good-sized ships tied up at the docks. One Reggie recognizes as a Bloodkin ship.

Zeoll looks to his friends for a consensus. Sail right up? Or water walk or wind walk in?

And do we want to lay in wait for more slavers, or just take the one that are here now out? He's inclined to kill and capture slavers, but leave the ships moored so that if others sail in, they will not think anything is amiss.

Terser agrees with Zeoll's assessment. If they are to sink the bloodkin ship, ther can be no Trace to warn off the other slavers. Best to leave it moored and draw the others in. Though it may be a good idea to get onto the ship and take out the crew so they can't escape. Maybe just slash the sails and break the rudder and oars.

Zeoll asks Reggie if she can wait to sink the ship, even if just a few days or a week. If not, okay, it sinks, but it has to go all the way under, so no sign of the wreck remains visible.

The liontaur agrees -- no mercy for elfbloods. But we have to be careful! There are surely slaves on board, and we do not want to accidentally kill innocents. That would not be cool. Can anyone detect evil? Zeoll can always summon an archon to sense the evil in those who surrender or are otherwise captured.

Do we wind/water walk in, or sail the Lionfish to dock?

It's possible one of them could recognize the Lionfish, I would hate to leave the crew, and Ky, here unprotected. We can clear out any Elf-Blood on board and check the hold for slaves. As Terser said, we can disable the ship for now, then either capture or sink it later."

"For it is written, 'Do not be quick mete out death, always giving due consideration to the need for that death and the possible need for that life.'

"As for our approach, I do worry about puttin the Lionfish and her crew or Ky at risk. Let's instead sail around to the other side and approach as we did before. That way we can find out what's going on before you all start slaughter everything in sight."
