Nikolai nods. "We'll pass on our report to Lord Klirt. We'll not mention our prisoner. He may just ignore her or he could cause a fuss at her trial. Since she was under the influence, allegedly, she won't go back there when or if she ever gets released.
As far as this doomsayer, has any Fist members been attending his preaching? Looks like we'll need to go incognito and do some sleuthing. Leave it to us, Commander. We'll get freshened up and take a look tonight."
Outside he tells the group he and Pru (or anyone else that want to) will get the news to Lord Klirt while the rest make some preparations for that night. "We'll show up single or in twos in civilian garb and just mingle around, ask a few questions, not many, and listen. We meet back again in our common room and discuss what we've learned about this guy. Sound alright?"

Sigvar hesitates, then speaks. " I would be remiss if I did not mention that the dragon has not been dealt with. All indications point to the dragon, not the mage, being the brains behind the mission to the keep. The dragon arranged for a test where he could observe our fighting style and our reactions to him and a second threat. Once he saw what he wanted to see the retired from the field, untouched. Moreover, the mage states that he is amassing an army, but would not mention to what end he wanted to use it." " He may be behind this prophet as Travin is suggesting. The possibility exists. More to the point though, what would you have us do with this herald of doom? confronting him will only lend fuel to his fire, especially if he is enhancing his message with magic. Eliminating him may incite those that follow him. We might be able to discredit him, but if he is indeed a pawn of the dragon, then we will certainly be shown up as liars when the dragon destroys some place that we are not defending, which could be anywhere. How would you have us proceed?" OOC We rested one night, do not forget to heal your level for that rest time.
Akir Al'Kaban - AC 19 - Hp 107/90 (Ken E) Tuesday October 31st, 2017 11:07:30 PM
Akir is curious.
It sounded a lot like Palance was abandoning progress on a mission to handle a domestic issue. That was strange, and unsettling.
"I don't usually abandon my weapon. It's sort of necessary that I do not, and a civilian carrying a giant scythe around might look a little sketchy to others. I'll turn my scarves inside out, if it's all the same. It's possible that since I'm still in Eagle regiment attire that I won't be recognized."

Anna says, "You know I could turn into an animal, scope out this doom preacher, then if we could discretely knock him out, I could take his place, give a short sermon about how everyone should just go home and problem solved."
" The discreetly knocking him out would only work if he's working alone. Otherwise, we could be missing on opportunities. I'd suggest a simple recon. Attending and listening to what is being said. Maybe someone in plain clothes getting a feel from the audience as to what the impact of the speech is. Then someone else follows him back to wherever he came from. From there, we can determine what the intent is and what steps need to happen. This appears to be a definite stealth mission versus a bash and grab. "

"If he's using some sort of compulsion," Pru reasons, "it will show up as magic. There are several of us, I think, who can detect magic, so we can figure that out pretty quick. Then we just have to work out the best way of dealing with him."
"I think we shouldn't make a plan for dealing with him until we've done some recon," she adds. "For example, if he really is using compulsion, he could compel some of the common folks to attack us, or get in our way, or help him escape."

We need to continue to build up our credibility and people will only see this action as a desperate move to hide the 'truth'.

Nikolai answers Akir. "We'd only be abandoning the mission if we hadn't accomplished our goals we were paid for. As far as we know, we've done that. We could charge Lord Klirt a fee to maintain a Fist contingency there to help guard his work crews, but our service is more valuable elsewhere..."
The rumble interrupts Nikolai's answer and like the other, rushes towards the cells. "I doubt Slartanus would come after her here considering he abandoned her when the forces against him was small in comparison to the Citadel. if it is her doing harm to our people, I might reconsider our policy of not prosecuting, sentencing and executing prisoners in the field!"

The hasted Agents run out of the Knight Commander's office to a scene of chaos in the yard. The formerly bright day has gone dark, and privates and pages are hurriedly running around trying to set torches so they can see. In addition, part of the wall above the cells has collapsed and people are trying to clear rubble to get the trapped guards and mages out. Either Tetra is much more powerful than you had imagined, or something else caused the wall to collapse.
The wind has picked up as well, and its howling is making it hard to hear and impeding coordination efforts. You can all hear the sounds of insane laughter from high above you though. Tetra is standing on the peaked roof of the citadel, laughing into the wind. "The end has come for us all!" She shrieks into the air, seeming to enjoy the chaos for a moment before disappearing in a twinkling.
To make matters worse, the dark has drawn the self styled prophet from wherever he was hiding, and chanting can be heard outside the walls. One word can be heard above the rest, as many voices cry it out. "Doom! Doom! Doom!"
The ground is still trembling, making footing treacherous, and a few lower ranked fist members can be seen sneaking off towards the gates, though their purpose is unclear.

Of all the commotion, Akir is mostly unsettled by the premature darkness. He didn't think it was a weather spell, and he couldn't place any arcane spells able to achieve such a feat. OOC Thanks Hugh! That is what I intended. Back from Carnage on the Mountain in Vermont. Nice convention, had a blast, and now am almost unable to speak I am so hoarse.
IC Sigvar uses his height, strength and stature as an Agent to get the rescue operation going the right way. He uses his everburning torch to light the area and his strong clear voice to direct the troops attempting to free their shield brothers. He sets up a rubble removal bucket-line and helps to diagnose and treat the wounded that are pulled free. His adamantine sword is a weapon of war, but in a case like this, using his size and strength and the edge on the blade he is able to split the larger rubble and allow the weaker soldiers to move it, speeding the effort to free the trapped soldiers. He had heard Nikolai's pronouncement about future prisoners, and thought back to when he was captured as an enemy combatant by the new Fist after his unit surrendered in the civil war, having served, under duress, on Neutronius's side. Had those soldiers wished they could have executed him as a war criminal. But they had followed the rules of engagement and he had been able to prove he had not had a choice other than certain death. He had served his time rebuilding the city and had been found worthy of reinstatement in none other than the Agent's Fist that had defeated the traitor general. He had proven his case and been given the chance to redeem his honor. While he felt in his heart that Tetra was a murderer and would not repent as he had, he was not her judge, nor would he be her executioner unless she gave him no choice. He would stop her, capture her if able and see her tried. That was the law. He would speak to the others once this crisis had passed. He hoped he could make them see that what they proposed was not the lawful way to proceed. to proceed as they proposed was dangerously close to the way Neutronious had ruled. He would not allow that to happen again. Sigvar hears the chanting and feels the pounding. He is worried about both, but not a sign of it shows in his voice or in his actions. Those trying to help their fellows need not be burdened by such fears. He projects a calm assurance that he knows what to do and keeps order, saving as many as he can, and praying to Lord Gargul to welcome those that he cannot save. His new powers as a paladin of his god allow him to project an aura of courage, bolstering those around him. He knows this and moves through the other workers, catching as many of his shield brothers as he can in this aura as he moves and reassuring them as he directs them.
Doom! Monday November 6th, 2017 3:44:29 PM
The agents are moving quickly, faster than others, but everywhere you look appear to be other people moving around as well. It seems like it is getting darker outside and inside, the only light coming from the few torches that have not been blown out by the increasing wind. The wind howls along and through various hallways and around rocks and pebbles. Bits of dust are whipping up and around as well, making it even harder to see in the darkness. Those who cannot see in the darkness can only see a short distance – no light is being provided by the stars or moon.
The agents split up. Sigvar, Pompous, and Trayvin stay at the rubble, searching for survivors. Trayvin uses his darkvision and spots a guard that looks near dead, but looks better when Sigvar channels healing. Sigvar brings over an everburning torch, but the wind is now whipping so strong that even the everburning torch’s flames are turning and twisting, limiting its light. The three of them manage to pull a guard from the rubble just as a stronger earthquake strikes and more rocks tumble, filling the hole where the man just lay. Other bits of stone wall fall from above (Reflex save DC 12 or hit by rock for 5 damage) towards the three rescuers. Sigvar works to calm others, but he can see by the eyes that some are starting to panic with the ground shaking and the sudden darkness. This was not a heavily populated area, so it would appear that the group has rescued all that were still buried here.
Meanwhile, Michael, Pru, and tiny dinosaur Anna follow Nikolai towards the sound of “Doom, doom, doom.” They notice the other soldiers headed out and follow them to the sound. Nikolai slips behind a cart and disguises himself. Rounding a corner of a building, the group sees a large open space between buildings. There is a large bonfire built there, and the strong winds are making the fire burn very brightly. Two men continue to throw big logs on the fire, keeping it going in the darkness, but the flames are pushed almost horizontal by the winds. No one stands on that side of the fire for fear of being quickly roasted.
On the opposite side of the fire, with his back to the crackling flames, stands an old man with long, flowing white hair and a matching beard. The wind pushes his grey robes against his body, showing him to be quite thin. His arms are raised in the air and his eyes are closed. His face points to the dark sky as he cries out, “Doom, doom, doom is coming!” A small crowd has gathered and stands facing him while looking around nervously. People are trying to talk to one another, but the wind and the fire make conversation difficult and somehow the voice of the man is carrying over them all.
Pru stops and looks around for the invisible caster. She spots nothing, but is quite sure that she will appear again. She prepares to counterspell, but she knows it will be very difficult with this wind, darkness, and the ground continuing to shift beneath her feet. Akir attempts to cast some spells to remain as safe as possible (need a concentration check, DC 16, for each attempt) as he struggles to maintain his footing in the wind.
The other agents that had been followed here appear to simply have been coming to see the Doom prophet. They have gathered together at one side of the fire. The looks on their faces show that they are unsure what to do at this point. Apparently their military training wasn’t enough to keep them in line in the face of such happenings. Small sticks, straw, and bits of roof tiles fly past in the increasing wind and the earthquakes now appear to be almost steady with the ground slowly swaying around everyone. Conversation in anything short of a shout is now impossible with the wind blowing. People are looking more to the wind as larger objects start flying through the air…

The wind continues to whip around and Michael stands up and yells to the crowd. A few of the crowd look at him, and one or two start to move, but the rest just stare and look at one another, not sure of what to do next. At the same time, the tiny dinosaur turns into a large hippo, right there in the middle of the crowd. Anna calls out to the crowd, but they quickly shy away from her massive size, not really sure why a giant hippo just appeared in their midst.
Nikolai moves towards the prophet and watches closely. Akir attempts to detect magic. When he does, instead of the usual detection auras, his entire world changes around him. Everything turns to shades of grey and appears slightly blurred. He can hear the wind and people talking, but they appear to be speaking in slow motion. He cannot move any faster, he appears to be stuck as well. There are no auras of magic, just blurring grey, white, and black. A sudden shake of the earth and he is taken back to the present and the Wold seems to return around him. He hears Pru call out to him as he tries to process the overload on his senses.
The prophet turns slightly and opens his eyes, staring directly at Nikolai. He points at him, the whites of his eyes shining in the darkness. He speaks directly to Nikolai and says, “DOOM! The end is now! Doom comes today and you cannot stop it!”
Pompous dodges and yells out to the others that they should go try and stop this doom guy. Trayvin helps the injured guard and searches for shelter. A good portion of the citadel is in fine shape, it is just one section near the cells that exploded and is in ruins. The ground does continue to shake and while pebbles and dust continue to fall (and quickly get swept away in the wind), no other walls have fallen yet. Sigvar moves with the guard and continues to shelter him. He watches the opening of the wall and sees, well, he’s not sure. The wind is whipping all sorts of dust as it continues to blow. Small objects, tiles, and broken pieces of things are flying past the hole and in all directions. The wind seems to change direction constantly while it continues to grow stronger.

Sigvar tries to help Pompous figure out the wind. The wind howls loudly as Pompous looks around. The darkness is odd, but the wind is stranger. This is not like any normal wind, but it does not seem like it is magical. It is almost as if the entire Wold has changed and this wind is now, suddenly, what the Wold has turned into: a land of howling winds.
Akir reels from the magical attempt and staggers. From what he knows of magic, that simply should not have happened. It wasn’t that the spell didn’t work, it is almost as if the very fabric of magic was somehow warped. It seems as if he cast one spell, but his understanding of the way the spell should have worked simply disagreed with the nature of magic in the Wold – which really doesn’t make any sense at all unless magic in the Wold is somehow changing. As he ponders that, he casts a light spell on the tip of his weapon. That spell works as he intended…but only for a moment. A moment later the light on the scythe is a very bright flash, completely illuminating the area, but only for a second or two. Various people raise their arms and shield their eyes from the sudden bright light that very quickly fades into a dim light that turns orange, almost like an ember at the end of the scythe. It still gives light, but in the darkness, the light is a strange color and doesn’t quite reach as far as it should. Strangely enough, those near that source see well-defined shadows around them, as if the sudden explosion of light burned their shadows in the darkness around them.
Anna yells for people to shelter around her as Trayvin wonders if the group should head inside. Michael looks around and sees there is a lower place around the edges of the walls, sort of a dip and less than a moat around the walls of the citadel. He ponders directing people in there and eyes the walls of the citadel, slightly swaying as the ground shakes. He cannot be sure if those walls were to fall if people would be safe in the ditch, but with the ground moving and the wind howling, where is safety?
Pru continues to watch out for the magician, ready with a counterspell. The bright light from Akir has made it even more difficult to see in the darkness, but she watches carefully. Nikolai calls out to the old man. The man’s eyes roll back into his head as his head rocks back suddenly, almost as if hit with an uppercut. At the same time, the wind increases and the bonfire starts to move! After a moment you realize the fire isn’t moving, but a couple of logs have been blown out of the fire and are rolling towards buildings. The fire is starting to diminish in size from the strong winds and anything smaller than a log is little but embers now, and those embers are being grabbed by the wind and carried up in swirling masses.
There is a sudden, very loud cracking noise and the ground shakes violently, then suddenly stops. The wind continues to howl, but it almost seems abnormal now that the ground isn’t moving…

Akir taps Pru with the butt of his scythe to get her attention, then warns her. Shouting over the wind, he states it as simply as possible.
"My magic seems unreliable right now, be careful with yours!"
Getting into a discussion on theories would be impossible in the wind, and Prudence didn't study magic anyways. He might as well be shouting at her in the language of dire-gnomes.
He isn't sure the enemy sorceress was going to be a threat in these conditions, but he will guard Prudence as long as she stays on alert. At least his protection from evil spells didn't fizzle, which makes him curious of the school of magic being used has some sort of relevancy or if he is just standing in a chaotic tempest of chance, and he shouldn't press his luck.

There is no telling how the buildings and the fire will react in the heavy winds. Michael follows her direction and starts moving people towards shelter. Many look back at the prophet of doom as they slowly move.
Trayvin yells at Sigvar to head back to the other agents outside the citadel. The two of them head outside to join up with the other agents trying to lead others to shelter with Sigvar. Anna continues yelling at the people. A woman clutching a small baby hesitantly moves closer to her, sheltering from the wind.
Nikolai takes a step up to the prophet of doom and lays into the man’s chin. He hears a crack as his first blow makes contact. The man’s head would have flown back if he hadn’t already raised it to the sky. The people who are being herded towards shelter move a bit more quickly once the man and the sound of “Doom” stops.

Trayvin moves first as the waves of earth approach. He doesn’t know what to do and prays to the Gods of the Wold. He gets the feeling, with all that is going on right now, that the gods are a little too busy to help him out at the moment.
Michael watches the waves appears and looks around. He sees that there is indeed a clear space, away from the walls – the area where the bonfire had been burning, but is now mostly embers. There is an area that is sort of like a dry moat near the walls of the citadel, but without measuring, he can’t be sure if those walls were to fall, if they would crush anyone in the ditch or not. There are many other open spaces a short distance away, such as the middle of the street (which is currently filled with debris blowing in swirling winds).
Sigvar arrives and quickly heads over to Anna-hippo. He tries to calm the people around him as he moves them closer to the shelter of the hippo. Unfortunately, as he is starting to calm people, the hippo drops to two knees, while trying to stay upright as the earth moves all around. She wonders if she can turn into something else to help the people, but the place is really almost total chaos at this point. A few people have taken shelter, but now that the prophet is down and the fire has scattered, more people are starting to run away from the town center, perhaps back to their homes, or perhaps just trying to get away from whatever is going on. Pompous yells out that he doesn’t know what to do next. He tries to think of anything in nature that could cause this. He recalls hearing of the earth moving like water, but he thought that was just old stories told to scare children. It was said, from what he can recall, that this happened during the creation of the Wold during battles between gods.
Akir takes a deep breath and tries to cast another spell. It is difficult with the ground moving so much, but he can feel the various powers of magic flow over and around him. He feels a strange weakness, just for a moment, as if he had cast exhaustion on himself, but then the magic appears to right itself and he feels himself slowly rise off the ground. He only rises a couple feet as he feels the strong winds seem to focus on blowing him away from the citadel and into the surrounding lands.
Pru watches the flaming logs move towards a nearby building. She attempts to cast a spell (Need a concentration check with the ground moving, DC 15+spell level, please. And a reflex check to stay on her feet DC 12 or drop to knees, fail by 5 or more and fall prone). Meanwhile, Nikolai appears to attempt to ignore the wind and the earth and heads over to the old man, picking him up off the ground and tossing him over his shoulder.
The winds continue to swirl and howl. You wonder if people are screaming as they are running, but you cannot be sure. Just as quickly as the waves of earth had started, they suddenly ended. The earth remained steady for just a moment, but then there is a cracking sound so loud that people put their hands over their ears. The earth appears to be opening up along the road that goes south, towards the tower you had recently visited. There is a citadel wall along one side of this road, and a few smaller buildings along the other side of the road. A small crack has started to open in the center of the road, and the crack appears to be headed south…
OOC: Natural 1, IMO, is unimportant with saves (but then, also, natural 20 is as unimportant…)

The winds continue to whip and howl around the citadel, buildings, and the town. The winds continue to make substantial noise, still making conversation very difficult. A dim light starts to brighten the sky, as if the clouds have thinned out and the light of the sun is trying to break through. There are no signs of clouds, however. The air is filled with dust, small bits of rocks, and small debris is blowing around colliding into various walls, animals, and people. The wall of ice seems to be holding back the burning logs, and the rest of the embers have started to blow away into the air. The strong winds seem to be enough to keep the fire from spreading at this point, and Michael runs to put out any bits of ember that continue to glow nearby. The bottom of the ice wall is starting to gather additional debris and junk from the winds.
Anna yells out for ideas while Nikolai takes the unconscious old man to the group gathered by the Hippo-Anna. Akir flies above in the wind, having to work to keep his place and not get blown away with the other debris. The group has started to gather on the far side of the main road south, just south of the main crossroads in the town. The citadel stands at the southwest corner of the crossroads and the outdoor area with the seats is also on that side of the crossroads. The road continues off to the south, towards the keep from where the agents had just visited. Roads lead to the west, off to the lands of the vampire and other towns; and to the east, towards the lands that had belonged to the witchfire.
Pompous looks over the cracks and tries to determine information about them. He has heard rumors of things called earthquakes, but he had never seen one up close. He can only guess that is what he is seeing at the earth moves around them. The waves of the earth calm, but only because the focus seems to be on the cracks in the south road. The lands on both sides of the crack shake as if on a wagon with a flat wheel as the crack starts to widen! Looking at the crack, there is only darkness into the crack and there is no telling how far down the crack might go, or what might be found in the massive hole. The crack starts near the crossroads and heads down the road as far as the eye can see. The crack is widening rapidly, a foot across near the crossroads, but already five feet across just a hundred yards down the road. It appears as if the earth is eating the very road itself. People, having spotted the crack, are now moving back towards the other buildings in the town and down the roads, both east and west.
There is a small row of buildings along the south road. There is a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a vegetable supply store where farmers come to trade their wares. Behind each of the shops is a smaller building, likely houses. There are also a couple other buildings along the road where others might live or stay when they are in town. These buildings are all shaking as the earth opens up. There are no people currently visible in those buildings either because they are inside and do not want to come out or because they have already fled the area.

She yells, "I'm going to warn the people in those homes!"
If she can she'll take off flying towards the homes and shops screaming at the top of her hawk lungs for the people to flee.

But there are more immediate problems. "Get to shelter!" she calls to the people around her. "Avoid the south road, but get inside, someplace! Go to the Citadel itself if you have to!"
She turns to Nikolai. "Should we lead people to the Citadel, do you think? It's pretty sturdy."

Anna yells over the howling wind and people struggle to hear her. Since she is having trouble with the ground shaking, she turns into a tiny hawk, flapping her wings hard to direct her flight in the strong winds. She heads over to the buildings and starts yelling at the houses. At the same time, Pru starts yelling to the people to get inside somewhere and away from the road. Nikolai and Trayvin are unsure, but figure the citadel isn’t any worse than anywhere else. Nikolai props the unconscious prophet up on the ground.
Near the crack, Anna spots a few people looking out the windows of the buildings. Two smaller faces appear in the window of the general store, eyes widening at the crack in the road. The crack continues to widen and the people inside just stare in shock at the crack. The crack is now nearly filling the road, and continuing to get wider. The buildings there shake on the edge.
Meanwhile, the fire that seems to have been out have found a way around. A building on the north side of the crossroads very suddenly shows flames licking up the side of the building. This is away from the buildings that were protected by the wall of ice that is now a wall of ice with steam as the embers continue to glow at its base.
At the same time, Sigvar heads over to the edge of the crack, bravely looking into the ground. The ground shakes near the edge, and he stays back a little because he can tell is it continuing to widen. Peering down into the darkness, he can see mostly shadows, but he does spot some of those shadows that appear to be moving. At first he isn’t sure because the size of the moving shadows seems to be too large to make sense: There look to be more than one massive shadow, over 25 feet wide, that appear to be moving around and getting larger, as if those huge shadows are moving towards the surface!

Akir heads over to the crack with Sigvar. He looks down into the crevice and sends a magic missile down into the shadows and he tries to think about the geography and the earthquakes. From what he knows, normal earthquakes do not normally last long at all, usually just a few seconds. This is clearly something other than anything that has happened in the Wold before that anyone has lived to tell about. As he listens and looks, he realizes the earth is starting to slow and it appears the quake will be over soon. Pompous takes up a position behind Sigvar, preparing to pull him back if needed. Michael slips around the other side of the crack, hoping to take up a flanking position for whatever comes out of the hole in the ground.
Trayvin runs over to the burning building and starts attempting to cast water spells (please roll for concentration check and % failure chance with the wind and earthquake). He yells for people to get out while Pru rushes over and turns into a water elemental. He spots someone run out the back and run over towards him, yelling about water. He has a bucket in his hands, but is struggling to keep his feet in the ongoing earthquake.
Anna flies over to the buildings and starts pecking on the windows. The two smaller children are startled and quickly head out the back and into the fields behind the houses there. Nikolai picks up the old prophet again and heads for the main gates of the citadel. There are no guards there at the moment, whoever was on guard has apparently abandoned their post. The streets are mostly clear now, with most of the people fleeing to some unknown parts. There are a couple of agents standing outside the gate near the remains of the bonfire, not sure what they are supposed to be doing.
Sigvar starts yelling directions and checking out the shadows. He protects himself from fire and looks down into the crack. The crack appears to be slowing at the moment in its widening. He suspects the shadows are undead and he racks his brain for undead that can be this large. He’s not heard of anything this massive, but he figures someone could have made zombies out of some giants or something. He thinks for just a moment about a dracolich, but surely there wouldn’t be more than one of those coming out of a hole in the ground. As he continues to watch, the shapes get larger as they approach the surface. Sigvar tries hard to identify them, but with the darkness outside and the lack of light in the pit, he really can’t see any identifying marks. He doesn’t see any flashes of metal, reflections of light in the eyes, or anything other than just darkness and dirt, but he gets the feeling something very large is about to emerge from the crack in the earth from the very bowels of the Wold…

The homeowner grasps Trayvin close and hugs him, yelling his thanks in Trayvin’s ear to be heard over the wind. Elemental-Pru quickly turns and heads for the other ashes, preparing to put them out as well. Those ashes are still glowing red in the strong winds at this point, as they are in a slight depression and haven’t all been spread around the town yet.
Hawk-Anna heads down to check out another building and pecks on the windows. An old man waves her away, but when she continues to peck, he slowly heads out the back door, away from the shaking ground and opening crevice. Sigvar makes the determination that the things he cannot see in the pit are zombies. He stares down into the darkness of the crevice and prepares to attack whatever comes out of the ground. Akir flies a little higher and drops some acid into the crack. Very suddenly it looks like the very ground is exploding out of the crack and around him! He slashes out with his sword and his horns as the ground rises and his sword slams into stone and rock. He briefly wonders if his sword is damaged from the dirt and pebbles it slams into, but his is distracted as the massive dirt slams directly into him! It almost looks like a volcanic eruption of dirt and ground and Sigvar is looking into the crack one minute, then is slammed against the wall of the citadel the next (bull rushed). Akir is pushed back slightly in the air, as the pile of animated dirt is over 30 feet tall. Pompous finds himself standing next to the massive pile of dirt and rock as well. Sigvar shakes his head in a daze as he tries to take in the massive size of this huge pile of dirt that seems to almost be looking at him. Large piles of rock and dirt seem to form arms out the sides of the creature as its massive bulk easily straddles the crack in the ground. Michael easily jumps onto the large pile of dirt and looks for a weak spot. From his vantage point, it all just looks like dirt and rock to him (no sneak attacks). He stabs his dagger into the creature and he feels like he is stabbing the ground. The earth continues to shake as a second pile appears down the crack from the first, right next to Anna.

Sigvar's weapon attacks are adamantite and magic. Hopefully one or both of those pierce that DR. Did Sigvar take damage? If so how much. No flanking? There goes all those sweet Outflank bonuses.
IC Shaken but not incapacitated, Sigvar shouts to Akir, " OK, so maybe they are not undead. I felt resistance to my attacks Akir, You know stuff, how do I hurt it?" Knowledge Planes 25, just in case that will tell Sigvar how to damage it Sigvar was hit hard, and it looked as if there was almost no effort expended at all by the creature to do so. Defense was useless, damage was what was going to carry the day here. The paladin drops his shield and holds his family weapon in both hands. Undaunted, Sigvar tries to hold the monster's attention, hoping to allow Pompous to fall back far enough to fire his bow, though with the creature being as dense as it is, he isn't sure that will hurt it.

Trayvin and Pru work together and quickly put out another of the fires before they spread to the surrounding buildings. The wind still howls and embers still glow and further down the streets, they can see a couple people huddling around, moving slowly, and trying to get inside the buildings. More debris blows up and down the streets, sometimes twisting around in small whirls of air.
Pompous is the first to react to the creature, yelling at the monster, glad to have a clear foe. He quickly fires three arrows at the creature. The first arrow sinks into the dirt of the massive beast. The small electrical charge flashes along the surface of the rocks. The second arrow flies true, but hits a small rock at the surface of the creature and is deflected away. The third arrow amazingly somehow misses the massive pile of dirt completely! As he lets the last arrow fly, the creature swings out a blob of dirt that absolutely slams into Pompous, bouncing him off the wall behind him (22 damage).
Sigvar shakes himself off and yells to Akir. He tries to think about this thing in relation to the planes, and he has a suspicion that this thing actually might possibly be from one of the elemental planes. He does expect that it is going to take a lot of damage to hurt this thing – after all, it is made of rock and dirt. He slams hard with his sword, and he feels the blade chop through chunks of dirt and rock. He makes contact with something underneath, as if he was able to strike at the core of the creature. As the sword flies thorough, the dirt moves to fill the opening left by the sword (some damage, some DR). He twists his head and the horn slices through the edges of the dirt, raising a cloud of dust that is quickly lost in the swirling, howling winds.
Akir flies backwards, away from the monstrosity, and above the wall of the citadel. He still has quite a clear sight of the nearly thirty-foot tall pile of rock and easily targets it with more powerful missiles. At the same time, Nikolai looks over and spots the giant things. He thinks about what he knows and realizes that this is indeed likely an earth elemental, but one that is much larger than he has heard about before – this is not simply conjured earth elemental. He bravely approaches, yelling at the creature in the wind, and he spots two large green gems that are apparently the eyes of the creature watching him approach. As he watches another massive blob of earth and rock slam into him (19 damage), he remembers that because these creatures (elementals) are made of the ground it can indeed be very difficult to damage them, with no known way to overcome that ability (he knows they have damage resistance to just about every type of weapon and magic).
Michael bounces around on the back of the creature and decides to stay put. He easily slams the pitons into place and starts strapping himself onto the monster. The dirt pile doesn’t seem to notice him at all. He manages to get out a flask of acid and pours it to the side, hoping the wind will not turn and burn him. He watches as the acid flows into the “ground” of the monster, sizzling as it goes. He can tell based on what he has seen and knows that this is indeed not clay at all, but instead is more like a massive pile of rock and dirt that is alive. Meanwhile, Anna quickly scurries away on all 8 legs and heads to the open space behind the buildings and fields.
The second creature stands up to its full height, over thirty feet tall. It looks around with two large red gem eyes. It looks at the citadel wall, then over at the wooden building. It starts to move towards the building nearest to it...

Sigvar valiantly attacks and his sword chops through rocks and dirt, knocking pieces flying off the monster on onto the ground. His flames lick through the dirt. His horns slam into the beast, but they do not seem to bother it like the sword did – parts do not break off at all where his horns hit. Akir’s attack, the scorching ray, hits the beast and the dirt actually seems to burn up and almost evaporate from a piece on the pile.
Nikolai moves up and distracts the creature to help out Sigvar. Unfortunately he is successful and has the attention of the monster. Sigvar wields his sword and massively chops into the beast, chopping off large chunks of the pile of dirt and rock! His horn attack also knocks more dirt of the thing, those formerly living pieces falling to the ground as what appears to be normal dirt. This gets the attention of the beast, who swings a large arm of rock at Sigvar, slapping him hard in his side (21 damage).
Pompous tries to shoot arrows, but trips over a tiny little wafer thin mint on the ground, causing his arrows to fly high and wide. They quickly disappear in the strong twisting winds. He fires again and watches the arrow stick into the side of the wall of dirt, only to be pushed out by the dirt. Before it falls to the ground, he sees the electric shock zap along the edges of the dirt.
This time it is Trayvin that runs up to distract the creature. He is successful, but he is successful enough that he draws the attention of the monster and a massive arm of rock and dirt slams into him from above, almost staggering him with the massive power (21 damage). Nikolai also runs up to attempt to distract the creature. Akir thinks for a moment about the creature and while he cannot recall the exact name for this creature he can tell by the piles of rock and dirt that have fallen off of him that it is quite injured and likely near death at this point. He hits it with a black ray, trying to slow it down even more.
Pru takes on the second of the creatures as Anna runs up to it and away from it again. The creature ignores Anna-Hippo and continues to smash the building at the same time Pru hits the beast with an elemental blast. This hits hard and large chunks of rock and dirt fly from the second monster. It stops breaking the building as it is engulfed in flames from the blast. The strong winds carry the flames over to the broken building, and the former house is quickly covered in flames. The monster goes down into the crack out of sight for the moment…
OOC: I’m assuming the elemental blast was fire so it would set the web on fire.
Magic does appear to be affecting the pile of rock and dirt.

The wind continues to whip and twist about. You feel like it is letting up only to have another gust twirl in in another direction. The light is still dimmer than it should be, yet there are no clouds you can see as the wind howls and moans. The ground continues to rattle and shake, dust is in the air, and the very earth itself seems to have come alive and started attacking the residents of the surface. The crack in the surface of the earth continues to widen to the south of the citadel, though it does not spread further into the town.
Sigvar continues his up-close battle with the monster made of rock and dirt. He slices into it repeatedly and hits it with his horns, and it just looks like the rock and dirt shift to fill in the holes that he is making. He can tell he is making progress as more and more piles of dirt and rock are knocked off the creature and onto the ground where they are swept up in the wind or shaken by the earth back down into the crevasse. Pompous also continues his assault, firing more arrows into the massive pile of dirt. He watches as each arrow strikes true and appears to just be ejected by the rocky flesh of the creature, just as the arrows eject their electricity into the dirt. When they do, the electricity seems to have been the last straw! The huge pile of rock and dirt shimmers and shakes, then it suddenly collapses in a huge pile, much of the remains dropping into the crack, but large amounts also fly into and through the air to cover Nikolai and Pompous with a thick layer of brown dirt.
Trayvin tries to do some healing to keep the group going against these creatures and Nikolai does the same to keep himself alive. Akir prepares himself to cast something, but quite suddenly he does not have what he needs for the spell! He checks to see if he has some more pockets full of materials.
To the south end, Pru casts a spell (from the north) across the chasm. The spell doesn’t feel right as she releases the magical energy and the chasm is momentarily covered with a small pond, apparently floating in air. As hippo-Anna runs towards the water, the water suddenly freezes over and the wall of ice appears as Pru had intended…just in time for the massive hippo to run and jump over the gap.
There is a moment of pause after the first beast falls and the ice shimmers over the chasm. But the pause only last for a short moment as the earth explodes near Pru! It appears to be another earth quake for a moment, but when you see the bits of earth on fire, you get the feeling that this is the creature that had been to the south and had spotted Pru casting the elemental fire spell against it. As it appears, a massive bit of rock and earth strike Pru hard (24 damage).
As everyone turns to see the creature come out of the ground, the piles of rubble and dirt that had just fallen from Pompous’ bow seem to be rising once again out of the ground! Coming straight up out of the crevice is another massive pile of rock and dirt!

Pru realizes that she’s a target and makes some sort of noise. There may be a great deal of debate in the future over whether it was actually a scream, a grunt, or the start of a magical spell. Either way, she turns into an earth elemental. For a moment, anyone looking in that direction may wonder if the larger, slightly on fire pile of dirt just gave birth or spontaneously multiplied. She moves north, back towards the main intersection and away from the creature. Unfortunately for her, she has the creature’s attention and it follows after her. It almost looks comical, if it were not so dangerous, as a small pile of dirt slides away, followed by a much larger pile of dirt that is slamming other piles of dirt into the ground, striking the first pile of dirt (28 damage).
Where the creature has appeared out of the crack, the hippo once again runs up, then runs away. Someone not knowing the group might wonder if the hippo is just drunk or trying for comic relief. Nikolai and Sigvar heal themselves while Sigvar looks closely at the creature. It does not radiate any evil at all. The large green gem-like eyes seem to see Sigvar looking at it and two very large fists of stone and rock slam into him, one from one side, and the other knocking him back straight (42 damage). Pompous fires arrows, but they fly off in different directions.
Down to the south where the second creature appeared, another massive pile of rock and dirt appears. It rises from the crack in the ground as the earth continues to shake and two very dark gem eyes look around to take in the area. Things are not looking good for the Agents of the Fist.
OOC: Well, here’s the Friday post, but I can’t access Google docs for some reason, so I’ll get a map out as early as I can Monday. Sorry about any confusion related to the map. Pru has moved north and a massive elemental is up there with her. A second elemental is on the space of the original one on the map. A third elemental is at the location of the second one on the map --- so elementals on the map from last Monday are accurate with the addition of another one to the north at the intersection. As I recall now almost everyone is near the wall and the middle elemental with the hippo to the south. Trayvin is north of the grouping and Pru is far north. Any of Nikolai, Pru, Sigvar will likely provoke AOOs with movement.

Trayvin yells out for the group to consider weapons from the citadel, but his voice is mostly carried away by the wind. The massive hippo that is Anna bites towards the elemental, but the huge jaws grasp nothing but air.
Off to the north, Akir sees Pru fleeing from the still smoldering beast. He yells out in the wind, hoping that Pru can hear him in the wind while she is running through the dirt as an elemental herself. His blade strikes true, and chops into the dirt. He watches as a piece of dirt flies off the thing and the electricity crackles, almost seeming to burn the surface of the monster. The attack gets the attention of the creature, and it turns to face Akir. Two large appendages of dirt fly through the air and the creature seems to have difficulty reaching up into the sky, but it manages to slap Akir between two massive dirt piles (30 damage). About that time, Pru turns back into a girl and attempts to cast a spell. Fortunately for her, the monster’s attention is on Akir as the ground continues to shake around her.
Sigvar yells out, hoping that Pru can hear him through the howling wind. He takes all he can and strikes out at the dirt monster in front of him, slicing it deeply and knocking a chunk of dirt off the beast. His horn strike appears to hit the monster, but again the dirt quickly fills in the space where his horn had sliced through. The monster responds with another massive blow of dirt upside his head (30 damage).
Nikolai yells out for a retreat and hopes that everyone can hear him. He takes off at a run towards the northwest. Pompous holds back and prepares to attempt to stop the monsters. The monster that has not been attacked moves past the fire and starts bashing another building. Now that the monsters have all emerged from the ground, the ground slow stops shaking and stabilizes. The wind continues to whip and howl, but the ground steadies.
OOC: Anna may take an AOO on elemental #2, if desired. Nikolai, moving away from the citadel and not into the citadel? Everyone but Pru and Akir can hear the command to retreat. Pru cannot hear it, but she can see Nikolai because she is currently facing that direction. Elemental #3 is facing Akir and Elemental #1 is facing Sigvar. A strategic retreat could be possible with a withdrawl action by Sigvar followed by Pompous. I’m not sure how huge hippo Anna can make that retreat. The auditorium area is open enough that you can go through it, you do not have to go around that item on the map.

Decision made he touches himself and feels Gargul's power flow through him, healing him a bit ( LoH 14) he then starts to move. Akir stands his ground and chops into the massive pile of rock again. He sees the electrical damage flash and burn and another substantial chunk of the monster appears be destroyed. He yells at Pru as the monster reaches out again with large dirty and rocky blobs to smash him between two huge arms that flail about in the air (22 damage).
Sigvar decides it is time to retreat with Nikolai. He tries to move carefully away from the beast, but he braces himself for the blow that comes, striking him with rock and dirt in the back as he turns (21 damage). He heals himself as he moves, but knows that he is taking more damage than he is healing. About that time, Trayvin helps out and reaches out to heal the running Sigvar. They see Michael run past as he heads into the citadel, looking for help (next round for who and what he finds inside).
Pompous continues his cover fire as the others flee, striking the piles of dirt and watching the electricity burn across the surface of the beasts. He draws the attention of the monster with his strikes and the creature moves up and slams a pile of rock into Trayvin (30 damage). Anna turns into a tiny bat and flies above the wall of the citadel. Nikolai calls out and waves, trying to get everyone’s attention as he moves down the road, away from the citadel and away from the buildings. Pru casts haste on a few of the group and starts quickly moving away from the combat. The remaining elemental heads into the houses and starts doing more smashing, moving away from the burning building.

With all of the other Agents retreating or having fallen back, Akir signals them to keep going and regroup. He had achieved his primary goal, giving Prudence room to work her magic.
Flying back out of it's range, significant damage already done, he starts peppering it with Ray of Frost, trying to keep it in the same area while the others heal and devise a new plan. In the mean time, he would keep harassing this one out of it's reach, and try to lure it into the auditorium, where there was a solid floor that might foil some of it's elemental bonuses, specifically it's Earth Mastery and it's Earth Glide.
Concentration check pass. Fly check pass.
He was thankful that being airborne would make it harder for it to hit him. (I think you've been accounting for it, but earth elementals are -4 to hit flying targets.)

Trayvin moves with Michael into the citadel. The two of them look around for support and combat crews. Strangely enough, there is no one to be found inside the citadel. Surely this is not the sign of an organized military command, but then again these are not normal times. They remember that there was a mass exodus from the cells and the citadel when the earth first started moving. There is rubble around near where the cells had been and a caved-in area there. The rest of the citadel seems to be standing, but there are a number of blocks slightly out of place and cracks in walls that are clearly new. There is a lot of dust on the ground from shifting blocks. If they head up one of the towers, there is sure to be heavy equipment up there.
Pru fires rays at rock monster 3. The fire clearly scorches the surface of the creature and the two large gem eyes turn towards Pru. It starts sliding across the ground towards her, but she quickly moves and back away from its slow approach, reaching Nikolai around the corner of some buildings.
Sigvar heads that direction, the large monster near him instead turning to attack the store on the other side of the road and crack. Sigvar can hear the splintering of the boards as it smashes them, and small bits of wood splinter and fly away in the wind. As Sigbar turns the corner, he grabs Pompous to keep him moving with the group, and he might spot the tiny bat flying over the edge of the wall, easily flying against the twirling winds above him. Akir moves as well along the side of the beast and a massive blob of dirt reaches into the sky for him, almost knocking him from the air (11 damage). He flies over the auditorium and freezes a small bit of the surface of the creature.
As Nikolai and Pru look back to see if the others are coming, they are distracted by a flash of light right next to them. A large circle appears and two very large figures appear in the circle, completely out of this air: minotaurs! The wind continues to whip and turn around the area and bits of dirt and rock fly through the air, propelled by the strong gusts.
OOC: Yes, I was using the -4 for flying creatures (I think everywhere), thanks for pointing that out.

A dark mist that coalesces into into an ethereal shadow sweep across the land, slowly condensing into the solid form of a large minotaur...or at least you think it is minotaur. Tall even by taur standards, the 9 1/2 ft tall figure is a commanding presence. Perhaps it is the 10 ft bastard sword slung across his back, a third eye in the center of his forehead, or that he casts no shadow in the Wold.
Casually he picks a couple strands of the remaining shadow off his steelgrass armor and flick them into the wind where the instantly dissolve. Looking closer you notice his armor covered by a black pea-coat sewn of chimera skin. The material is strangely soft and warm, thick enough that it conceals any weapons or armor underneath yet light enough to be cool to wear in the sun, and the way the end sweeps just above the floor as he walks sends a chill down your spine...or perhaps it is that is is actually radiating cold as wisps of dark fog seep from underneath his cloak.
Where the armor doesn't cover you can see the scorpions moving through his fur. Not crawling on top of it or under it, within in it as a ghost passes through a wall or a tattoo through the skin. If that were not strange enough, a silver Holy Symbol like you have never seen before is emblazoned on his forehead and in the center of it is living third eye darting left and right.
On his breast is the adamantium emblem with the IA Shield worn by the Iron Adventurer's before they became known as the Iron Dragons.
Gripping his sword he turns towards the voice demanding he declare himself. In the common tongue he calls back, I speak common, and it looks like we do not have time for pleasantries. Our cleric went inside the Citadel to try and raise some artillery, so no we are unable to heal ourselves at this juncture." Sigvar is what you would expect to see in a Fist raised Minotaur fighter. He is large, muscled and has a dark hide. His hair is worn in a warbraid that comes from the back of his head. Other than that he wears no hair, it is shaved so that if he chose, a helmet would fit properly. He has scars on his hide, lighter colored stripes mostly on hs forearms and torso. All of them appear to be battle wounds. The most conspicuous thing about him though is the eye patch that he wears. It covers the hole where his right eye used to be. A silver symbol of Gargul hangs around his neck. He wears heavy full plate and wields an adamantite longsword. At present he appears to have been used as a punching bag by more than one elemental. Akir, still in the air harassing the elementals, really doesn't have time to address, or notice, the newcomers at first. Scthe in hand, mithril armor covered with mud and dirt, he keeps up his game of tag with the Elder creatures.
When Bosk bursts into his field of vision, and barrels into his combat, it takes him a moment to realize it wasn't Sigvar coming back to the battle. Akir ponders the new arrival for a moment. It was attacking the elementals, so he wasn't going to say or do anything to stop him, even if it was a hostile force.
Instead, he figured he will take advantage of the newcomer. Akir flies close enough to get his spells in range for the next closest elemental, and fires another ray of cold into it, to pull it towards the new arrivals.

The earth is stable, but the winds are not. They continue to howl and twist. Just when you attempt to hold yourself against a strong wind in one direction, the winds change to push and shove you about. At the same time, small bits of rock and debris are blowing around, making it hard to get a good look at a distance. If you are not careful, you will get a mouthful of debris.
Sigvar runs up to the new arrivals, yelling at them in the wind, trying to determine if he should attack them or not. Nikolai turns as well and prepares for battle. Pru spots the new arrivals and turns her back to them, instead focusing on the rock monster. The rays strike true and the monster appears angered. It starts running down the road towards Pru.
Zane announces himself and takes to the air, hasting those around him. Bosk yells in the wind back at Sigvar’s challenge. He does not wait for a response and instead runs directly past the stunned Sigvar and drives straight into the giant pile of rock and dirt. He sword chops deep into the creature and chunks of rock fall to the ground, but other pieces of dirt appear to fill in at least part of the hole made by the sword. Anna watches them attack and decides to change into a dinosaur because she hasn’t changed into everything she knows quite yet. It is a little tight in the spaces between the auditorium and the buildings, but she can clearly move about.
Akir lets those on the ground handle such things, though one of the new arrivals has already taken to the air. Akir flies over and beyond the first elemental and towards the fire. He fires a cold ray at another of the piles of rock and watches as tiny bits of rock and dirt freeze and fall of the monster. The beast does not seem to notice and instead keeps smashing into and through the wooden building. Akir can see the other monster head across the field and towards other buildings.
Meanwhile, Trayvin and Michael quickly move into a tower. They can still hear the wind howling outside, but the jaunt up the stairs is a nice break from the twisting, non-stop winds. That break is short as they arrive at the top of the tower and step right back out into the wind. They arrive and look out over the town and the monsters. On the top of the tower is a ballista that can be used.
Ballista: a huge, heavy crossbow. Normal crew is one, so two working together will help. It does 3d8 damage. Normally it takes 2 rounds to load it, but I think two working together with Fist training can reduce that to one round. So one round to load, then one to fire.
Flying requires a fly check, DC 12 to remain steady. Failure means you are blown away in the wind. Flying combat maneuvers require a DC 15 fly check. Casting a spell while flying in this wind requires a concentration check, DC 15+spell level Casting a spell with verbal components while on the ground requires an additional percentage check with a 20% chance of spell failure due to the wind noise.
Conversation can only be heard by yelling: anyone separated by a distance of more than 25 feet is almost impossible if your character is away from the yelling people, you cannot hear them! Those in the citadel cannot possibly hear or see what’s going on outside the citadel at this point.

Zane, still hovering in midair lets out a beastial roar and full volume, as he does so his entire form, except his wings begins to change and morph. In the mere moments that the change took, he shifted from a mostly white Minotaur with bronze wings and various parts, he turned into a full bronze dragon. With Haste he flies at 120' so he launches himself like an arrow towards one of the further elementals. He puts himself between elemental #1 and Akir, staying in midair at a melee range of the creature.....
