Mysterious Druid -- AC:34+4/18+4/32+4 HP: 306/290 CMD = 23 Tuesday November 28th, 2017 9:01:57 PM Yes, I think we should go introduce our selves. The mysterious druid changes form into a huge air elemental and prepares to his welcome party to go check out the mysterious lightning forms before them.
The End is Nigher than you might like -Combat Rnd 1 DM Dan K Tuesday November 28th, 2017 9:34:42 PM
Shock and awe and some sheer terror ripple through the group in waves. The cloud monsters inspire such feelings to be sure, but not in all that stand beneath them. Appearing in the center of the broken street are two men, by the rings upon their fingers they are legends among the more powerful and noble of heroes, members of the Dragon Consortium. And they brought assistance. A throng of powerful elementals gathered about them waiting for the order to do battle.
There are other thoughts from the group of heroes of Dirt City, The Tide. Analytical thoughts, those of design and purpose to try and reach some fragment of knowledge of some long story heard or read. None standing beneath them have ever heard of something like this. No thing in magic, nature or the deep dungeons of the earth bears any resemblance. As they do not appear undead, about the only origin point then is extraplanar.
As Toston eyes the distance, well within range at 400' and dropping and so he sends a shaft upwards. it disappears into the cloud
Combat Rounds
The Mysterious Druid of the Consortium becomes a Huge Elemental of Air and the Warrior of Maab wards himself with a protection from Energy Spell.
Above the creatures descend, bolts of purple licking off of long 15' hanging tendrils. One such bolt arcs nearly 40', others dance and split 20 or 30' long. The creatures are 300' up. Each one is nearly 30x30x30

The druid sees that Wyaar pulled out his bow and sees that he will indeed be attacking at range.. Looks like you won't be needing it. Well, as long as the weather is like this, may as well make it work for us and see what exactly we are up against. As the treants and the 11 elementals start closing the distance between them and the psychedelic jellyfish in the sky, the druid calls forth a lightning storm of his own, enhanced by the already electrical clouds in the sky, and sends a bold down on the first abomination.

As the druid finishes calling forth a storm giant, he watches in sadness as a second elemental falls. Looks like I may need to start replacing them faster than they fall. I wonder how much damage these things can soak up. And for that matter, where did they come from? I've never heard of a summons like this, and I'm pretty sure I would have heard tales of these things if they were a native species of this area.
Hmm, it looks like that other group is focusing on those earth elementals that just appeared. That should allow us to focus on these big guys.

Drawing his axes, he interposes himself between the earth elemental and his group, and takes up a defensive position.
"Dusan, could use one of them strength buffs if you got time," he calls over his shoulder, and then turns his full attention the the elemental.
"Hey Rocky!", he calls, clanging his two axes together. "Over here, Big Fella."

Arrows streak skyward, imbued by powerful magic and holy wrath. They seem to almost explode as the slam into the creature one after another.
The Druid of the Iron Dragons calls forth a mighty Storm giant and sends another bolt of electricity into the cloud.

Wyaar manages to avoid two of the four bolts that come down towards him, either side stepping them or deflecting them from the magical barriers that surround him and relies on the Resist Energy Spell he had cast on himself for partial protection as well.
Though he gets burned, skinning reddening and blistering he brush a hand over his arm as he draws more arrows and most of the wounds lessen within moments and he sends a new volley of arrows upwards towards the remaining strange cloud creature.

There is no sound and the clouds do not move, they simply ripple and return to their still position. The smell of oil, dirt and rock dust fills the air and plenty of dust still filters and swirls on unseen currents. For now, for right now, the citizens of Dirt City and the The Tide specifically are not in mortal danger. How long will the repreive last is unknown. The causes of such events are just as unknown.

Beriothian -- AC:34+4/18+4/32+4 HP: 306/290 CMD = 23 Friday December 8th, 2017 9:04:42 PM
Beriothian lands and transforms back into his human form. Ah, that's better. As much as I like the freedom of flight that an air elemental's form provides, not being able to speak can be a bit of a hassle. I believe my colleague already introduced us, I am the druid Beriothian Galanodel, and this is Wyaar Mudlynn, Paladin of Maab. We are two members of the Iron Dragons, the Dragon Consortium sent us here to assist with the earthquake. It turns out there was a little more excitement waiting here for us than expected. "
The druid glances around the city, there is still a lot to be done. I'm not sure how long we have here before the Consortium moves us to our next assignment, if the danger has passed we can help out while we talk. How best can we assist? I can call up a storm and put out some of these pesky fires. And my elementals can help clear away debris, are there any people still trapped? I also have a stone shape spell prepared that can help you get to the lower city if needed, but I would need to know if there is a good place to use it as I'm unfamiliar with the area.
Lornak (Frank S.) HP:60/60 AC: 19(T:13/FF:10) CMD:19 d20+8=19 ; Friday December 8th, 2017 10:19:43 PM
Lorank slowly releases the tension on his crossbow blot and stows it. H e greets the members of the Dragon Consortium. " Well met, your timing was impeccably" Lornak says. "Your assistance, necessary."
The fires would be our first priority." Lornak sighs. "Beyond that, we've not heart from the City Below. The most trafficked thoroughfares to the City Below are through the tunnels under the arena above and under the temple of Waard to the east." Lornak points. (Diplomacy d20=18) If that way does is blocked there are sewers the exit along the edge of the docks."
Hmerrin(HP:52/67 AC:24 T:15 FF:20 CMD:24) Saturday December 9th, 2017 9:00:57 AM
Hmerrin nods with Lornak. "Half the city is below ground, and no one's been able to get down there since the quake. Anything you can do to help us dig out would be awesome."
"And a big thank you for showing up when you did and dealing with the Flying Cloud Jellyfish Killers there."
"I'm Hmerrin. We're the Tide. You guys rock."

Toston agrees with the others, "Putting out the fires and clearing a path to the City Below would certainly go a long way in helping us and sadly we don't have easy ways to accomplish either task. I'm better at causing fires than putting them out."
Gaffer (Courtney) HP: 61/61 AC:21)T:16/FF:15) CMD:20 WS 1/2 Sunday December 10th, 2017 8:24:26 PM
Gaffer approaches the group before bowing his bead to the Druid, "I am Gaffer of Culverwoods, well met and thank you for your assistance. We covered a small area of the city but there are likely still many others trapped. Getting those above and below free is first priority. If I may ask though, what were those things? I've not heard of such beings."

Beri points his treant in the direction of the nearest entrance to the undercity and instructs him to start clearing debri from the entrance. He then instructs his storm giant to cast his control weather and create a rain storm over the city to put out the fires. The rest of the elementals are put to work clearing the streets and searching for any remaining trapped victims.
Once the debris is cleared i can try to mold a new doorway if the enterance is damaged. And the fires should be out before too long.

A Deep Breath DM Dan K Tuesday December 12th, 2017 12:16:09 AM
The Tide and the pair from the Iron Dragons have the time to talk a bit after the immediate danger is over. Contact with the city below and clearing the streets are the listed priorities. An Entire city of rubble is simply a task even beyond the powers of the Iron Dragons. It would take days for dozens of elementals to do so and as the task of clearing a way to the City Below begins, it becomes very evident that further collapses and cave ins could result if rubble or debris was simply moved from the known tunnels. No what happened to Dirt City is going to be a longer term approach.
Putting out fires and such is something that could be done, but how would others in Dirt City respond seeing an elemental swooping into an area?
The Tide very much have a control over the area of the city about them, but perhaps so do the Wolves, the Knives, The Cloaks and the other Houses? Moving into territories uninvited could bring retaliation
As the group gathers, a black cat shoots across the road. This may be even something beyond the might of the Iron Dragons
"Oi, not her again." Var says, watching the black cat scurry by.
Gaffer (Courtney) HP: 61/61 AC:21)T:16/FF:15) CMD:20 WS 1/2 Tuesday December 12th, 2017 11:15:26 AM
Gaffer pipes up as he watches the black cat run by, "I followed one but I still have no idea why so many are running around." Before his head snaps back to the others. "But yes sorry, we should also try and head below to see if they need further help."
Dušan Danann (Erik) {HP:29/33; AC:(21 Temp)17; Touch: 13; FF:10; CMD:16} Tuesday December 12th, 2017 12:56:55 PM
Dušan realizes he hasn't checked in on his coven in at least a day. "I need to check on some friends of mine it won't take long, but I can ask if they know where to direct elementals without stepping on any toes."
Dušan pulls out Johnathan, his sentient Spirit Cauldron and asks him to contact the rest of the coven. He makes sure they are ok, then asks if any areas of the city needs immediate assistance that wouldn't mind the presence of elementals. With crisis matters spoken of he also inquires if they have had any interactions with the influx of cats or other witches spreading prophesies of doom.
Wyaar the Dragon Consortium Paladin ( Sheet) AC 42/26/37, CMD 40 (42 temp), HP 143/153, DR 5/Evil Tuesday December 12th, 2017 2:43:42 PM
Wyaar helps as best as he can with whatever recovery is going on in their immediate area before he looks towards the Tide, "[b]I look forward to seeing what you are able to do withyourselfs in the future. I see such potential here... We must go, but will send what assistance we can through the Consortium. Have heart, you are not alone in this."
And he waits for Beri to be ready to make their dramatic exit.
Wilford Grimly (HP:44/44; AC: 18; Touch: 12; Flat: 16; CMD: 18) Tuesday December 12th, 2017 8:11:27 PM
Wil, having paused for it seems like a day. Piped in. "One, Two, buckle my shoe. We have to help anyone we can... We must pay our due." Wil's voice became younger and female-like. His posture also changed to match the voice. "Are you serious. No...no...no. April must leave. I can barely handle the rhymes within his head," said Cicero, just before he disappeared. Upon seeing the black cat, Wil screeches. "Black cat cross my path. Oh my gosh. We have to capture it?"
Hmerrin(HP:52/67 AC:24 T:15 FF:20 CMD:24) d20+5=23 ; Tuesday December 12th, 2017 8:28:39 PM
Hmerrin makes sure to shake the hands of Wyaar and Beriothian, if for no other reason than to actually touch a Dragon.
"Thank you again for your help, we really needed it."
That being said, he turns his mind toward the City Below. "We may need to dig out our own entrance tunnels, bracing up our way just like a new one." Knowledge - Engineering 23 for any brilliant ideas
Beriothian -- AC:34+4/18+4/32+4 HP: 306/290 CMD = 23 Tuesday December 12th, 2017 9:18:12 PM It looks like we aren't going to be getting down below any time soon, and I'm afraid we have to get back soon. Drop us a line if you ever figure out what those things were we fought. The druid and the remainder of his elementals join Wyaar and prepare to head out.
A Deep Breath DM Dan K Tuesday December 12th, 2017 10:02:59 PM
The black cat gives the party a good start but t is quickly gone and there are far more pressing matters to attend to. Again the City Below is brought up, but how to engineer any such tunnel clearing or perhaps the need to dig an entirely new tunnel is the real question. Dusan reaches out to his coven and finds then basically well. Moderate bruises and abrasions, but nothing serious. They have not been very far and have been hiding ever since the sky became a war zone. Dusan's coven reports that the area is in shambles, they have no real information on a particularly more damaged area. none have been more than 100 feet or so in any direction.
Hmerrin thanks and makes a point to get a handshake in to the Iron Dragons. The Time has come for the Iron Dragons to go. They bid a short farewell and are gone
Hmerrin estimates that one of the collapsed tunnels will take several months to move the 100's of tons of rock and debris from the entrance while shoring it. Building a completely new tunnel would likely be easier. And there is also the aftershocks over the next few days, maybe weeks that normally strike an area post earthquake.
The wealth and well to do of the City Below are going to have to fend for themselves.
Lornak (Frank S.) HP:60/60 AC: 19(T:13/FF:10) CMD:19 Tuesday December 12th, 2017 10:41:13 PM
Lornak too notices the black cat and shies away from it. He is noticing a pattern now. Bad things happen after it appears. This time he wants to actually calculate the time between. Because, well, looking up at the sky, he knows this is far from over.

Once they are gone he says, "Were the other parts of the city really going to object to as far as they know a random favorable shift in the weather puts them out? I mean I get people can be touchy of turf but generally unless someone is looking to collect an insurance payment isn't it preferable to have one's property not be on fire?"

"Should the various powers of the city be gathering to decide a plan? If everyone looks after themselves there might be far to many left behind" He pokes the ground with his foot for a moment, unsure if they have any real way to get everyone organised. "I could get to the lower city by myself if we just want to see what state it is in?" Before looking round a little hopelessly.

Dušan considers if the houses maintain areas or if there might be other hold outs like Shale House, "Maybe we can reach out to the Houses and offer as services as mediators, go betweens and emergency relief. Maybe we can get The Prince to officiate a city wide plan."
Hmerrin(HP:52/67 AC:24 T:15 FF:20 CMD:24) Wednesday December 13th, 2017 8:26:06 PM
Hmerrin looks around at the devastation.
"I dunno. If the bulk of each House is Below, we could very well be one of the major forces here Above. We could forge our own alliances, and see how it shakes out later.
We're in decent shape here. If we can get a few of the civilians here to kinda take charge of local matters, the Tide can go search out the closest of the other surviving groups and link up and move on."

He turns to Iron Dragons; "My thanks." he says while placing a closed fist upon hi heart and bows his heads slightly. "May your adventures be exciting and fruitful. But most of all, survivable."
Wilford Grimly (HP:44/44; AC: 18; Touch: 12; Flat: 16; CMD: 18) Wednesday December 13th, 2017 9:58:04 PM
Wil coughs.. "The Prince... that may be a good idea but I would really be interested in starting a bit of trouble up here.. Well trouble being a force for awesome good." Wil's voice had returned to the thrill of Cicero. "We would have to start offering services the Houses would normally offer. We have a place for people to stay. We would have to locate some medical services.. maybe another building we could use as a hospital then find some clerics to heal or medics?"
Of Mice and Men DM Dan K Wednesday December 13th, 2017 10:26:52 PM
Before the Iron Dragons leave the elementals go to work for a time on the street and surrounding block where Shale House sits. Then they are gone.
The group discusses next moves.
Several ideas are offered
Head towards the palace and try to get in, you know to see the Prince.
Gaffer going Below on his own to see what is what
Start forging alliances with nearby blocks and moving out from there.
OOC by the way I thought Shale House was in/near the border of Backstab quarter and Moontown please correct me if i'm wrong

Toston says, "Well, there are 8 of us. We could pursue multiple avenues at the same time. As far as I'm concerned everything offered was a good idea. Gaffer, you can earthglide, right if you turned into an earth elemental? Do you think you could make it Below?"
"I mean while the conditions surrounding the Prince's ascension are a little questionable, he did act on what we discovered in our investigation. He even knows Wil and Dusan's name so if we can get a message to him we could let him know what we are up to now."
"While the house system is systematically oppressive to the majority of Dirt City we have worked with members of the Darts, the Cloaks and the Keys in the past and we do have chits with some of these groups so we could always use them if we can find someone to talk to."
"Lastly, things have obviously shifted if the Houses are not in control of their normal turf in the wake of the earthquake mayhap we can forge alliance with those who are in control in the nearby blocks? So we could always start local and forge local alliances with nearby blocks as we make our way to the Prince and the houses."

Vorelle and the Free School's situation comes to Lornak's mind first. While he does not fear for the schools safety, he believes that alliances should be made with non-house groups first.
"Minus Gaffer." He looks at Gaffer. "Sorry mate." He addresses the remaining 5 of the group; "I propose we stay in pairs as we reach out. Its too dangerous to move about alone. I also think we should stick close to home. I will take The Kid and check in on the Free School skirting the Backstab Quarter then head to Cloak Tower."
"I suggest Wil and Dusan make an audience with The Prince as Toston suggests. Then he and Var can head to Dockside and perhaps The Scrum or Dart Tower?"
Before Lornak departs he finds and designates a person to keep watch over the Civilians at Shale House, suggesting that they work in conjunction with the groups tenants should they need assistance.

The group decides to split up in multiple smaller groups. Gaffer is going to head into the City Below as an Earth Elemental to see what the place looks like. Dusan and Wil plan to head towards the Prince's castle and see if they can get in Var and Toston plan to head to Dockside and maybe onto to Dart Tower Lornak and Hmerrin will head to the fighting school and look into building alliances with non House affiliated groups
Gaffer shifts into an Earth elemental and vanishes into the ground. Gaffer travels through the rock and emerges several hundred feet later in the City Below. Gaffer in the Merchant entrance area. Great cracks line the walls and ceiling. The area is completely dark and quiet. Gaffer has little to no experience in the City Below, but it is a good bet that the pressing feeling of a tomb is not normal.
Dusan and Wil head out through Moontown towards the castle. All of the streets are strewn with rubble and some are impassable from collapsed buildings. Several streets down you come across a a set of 3 men in the process of mugging several wounded citizens in front of what is left of their home. "Either hand over the jewelry or lose it the bloody way."
Var and Toston make their way through Backstab Quarter and into Warrd's Ward. Rock debris and the occasional body can be seen as the pair picks their way through and over . The Ward is in shambles. A dust covered face peers with frightened eyes here and there, only to quickly hide when you glance over. AS you crawl over what was the second floor of the building next to you, A moan catches your ears from the rubble.
Lornak and Hmerrin head through Backstab Quarter to the School. Working over and around the debris strewn streets takes about 30 minutes to get to the school. The building looks to have whethered the quake very well. The main doors are closed and on the roof you spy 6 individuals in the process of taking aim with bows and crossbows at you. They appear to all be dwarves and one calls out, "If you're looking for a quick score, you should pick a different direction."

Continue to ponder these things until you come up with something easier that doesn’t bring grief or harm to you or others.”

Toston and Var both home in on where the sounds are coming from, but are not able to do much about it. The groaning continues and as the pair is right on top now, they can see part of a hand moving, pushing, struggling under the rock and debris. They also hear what they believe to be 4 or 5 others making similar groans as well. Lastly they both note that the moving hand is missing quite a bit of skin and a finger, but is not bleeding nor is any blood about the rocks upon which it is constantly scraping.
Lornak addresses the dwarf and he and Hmerrin back away. The dwarf acknowledges the group is out to help and wishes them well. "Be alert members of The Tide and watch yourselves. Not much good is walking the city right now. Your offer will be relayed rest assured and if anything you have the thanks of Torwyn Ironhammer and his kin for your efforts." Hmerrin and Lornak backtrack and start to head for Dart Tower.
Gaffer glides along, his darkvision working well enough in the underground. About 80' he spies a closed portal, it looks to be of iron. There is no one about on this side of the door. From the dust and debris, best guess is that it was closed after the quake struck.
Dusan casts a spell and [i]Suggests[i] the group look elsewhere for easier things to be all brigandy about. Will creeps up quickly and with a touch, plagues one of the other men with shadows and darkness in his eyes. The third man spins about and watches one of the brigands agree with Dusan and wander off, the other man screams and scrambles backwards over to some rocks to escape. For his part the last one standing mumbles an apology to the people he was just accosting, keeping his hand in a visibly non threatening position, he tries to move back away from everyone.

Dušan Danann (Erik) {HP:29/33; AC:(21 Temp)17; Touch: 13; FF:10; CMD:16} d20+6=17 ; d20+12=32 ; Monday December 18th, 2017 2:57:44 PM
“And for you,” Dušan says to the survivors, “I would suggest staying off the streets for now. If you have no where else, we have set up Shale House as a hostel. Maybe pay less head to your valuables and more to food and water that will help you survive the coming days.”
Dušan gives directions and medical aid both mundane and magical if needed (Heal = 32). “If you know of others we’re trying to organize the survivors. The Tide can be reached at Shale House for matters of aid and trade.”
Worried that the brigands might return or others may be around the corner, Dušan attempts to be more perceptive of his surroundings. (Perception = 17)
Wilford Grimly (HP:44/44; AC: 18; Touch: 12; Flat: 16; CMD: 18) Monday December 18th, 2017 7:27:02 PM
"Sir, you make sure anyone that wonders...," He says to the fleeing man, as April "... crime in this city has an expiration date." Wil then adds to April, "Nice words, but really I'm not sure it's wise." "Wilford Grimly, you stay out of this," April replied. "Have you seen, Cicero?" "He is sleeping and will return sometime." Wil frowned. "Share the word, my criminal friend. Share the word," April shouted. "Let's go see this Prince." April then disappeared from Wil's pained face. Wil held his head, groaned silently and moved on. "So sorry... again." He says to Dusan. "Apparently, I have a new visitor. You think the Prince is still alive?"

Once Lornak comes within even remotely close distance to longbow range around Dart castle he moves very slowly and keeps his eyes peeled. (Perception d20=20) He even thinks about raising a white flag... He cautiously moves toward the castle.
Gaffer (Courtney) HP: 61/61 AC:21)T:16/FF:15) CMD:20 WS 1/2 d20+8=12 ; Tuesday December 19th, 2017 4:51:13 AM
Feeling tense in this atmosphere he expects danger ahead. Gaffer attempts to pass by the portal by ducking gliding beneath, before coming up just enough to view the interior and remain unseen. (Stealth: 12) He readies himself to duck back into he earth if there seems to be danger.
"You sure this is a good idea?" he asks Lornak, also advancing cautiously.

Dušan smiles a devilish grin at Wilford, "No worries, friend. For once my inner voice was in accordance with your inner voice...es. I wanted to see them suffer, too, but decided to gamble on spell efficiency. It looks like it all worked in the end by any means."
Wilford Grimly (HP:44/44; AC: 18; Touch: 12; Flat: 16; CMD: 18) Tuesday December 19th, 2017 8:41:31 PM
"Terribly challenging," Wil said. "Wil thinks differently... ugh. Now I am referencing myself third-person. I have finally fallen off the edge." Wil smiles.
Lornak (Frank S.) HP:60/60 AC: 19(T:13/FF:10) CMD:19 Tuesday December 19th, 2017 10:16:36 PM
"Not really." Lornak says to Hmerrin softly. "However, we need to assess the House strength..."

Of Mice and Men DM Dan K d20+1=16 ; Wednesday December 20th, 2017 12:22:56 PM
Dusan and Wil send the brigands packing and those they were accosting back towards Shale House. The civilians head out with thanks, especially after Dusan so expertly wraps their scrapes and cuts. Dusan and Wil move on and soon come to their destination. Like everywhere, there is damage to be sure, but it seems the neighborhood in general survived well. A few downed buildings and such, but the only truly notable thing is the 6 corpses in the street. A pair of dwarves are pulling cloaks over them and while mumbling some words, are pouring what smells like oil. One notices you and looks up his hand moving to his slung war hammer and a word to his companion there is company. The other dwarf looks and gives a partial wave and brandishes his WLA badge. He moves towards you extending a hand, "Journeyman Hammerfall." He gestures to the bodies, "Undead. Seems not everyone who died in the quake is content to be dead."
Lornak and Hmerrin come within sight and range of Dart Tower. The structure took a hit, but does not appear to be listing or in immediate danger of falling. There seems to be a provision house and triage area set up using wagons and a few nearby homes. You don't appear to have been spotted yet by any of the nearly 2 dozen men and women of House Dart who are on lookout.
Var and Toston continue to try and free the person they are with. Var is able to shove a particularly heavy rock aside and reveals the trapped woman. A guttural hiss shrieks from her torn throat as she strikes at Var with a fist. Her other, now freed arm, grabs a rock and begins to pull herself completely free. In a small pocket, you see 4 others trying to crawl up after her. Var and Toston have just freed a trapped dead woman and for their thanks, she appears to want to eat them! The other 4 are clearly undead as well.
Gaffer slips under the door and strikes a solid barrier he cannot glide through in elemental form. While hard to see, even with Darkvision as you glide through stone, Gaffer believes and confirms that the passage beyond is completely lead lined between two of the layers of brick. If he wants in, Gaffer will need to go in the old fashioned way
Wilford Grimly (HP:44/44; AC: 18; Touch: 12; Flat: 16; CMD: 18) Wednesday December 20th, 2017 9:02:04 PM
Wil flashes his own WLA badge and says, "Do you brothers need some help? Wilford Grimly and this is Dusan Danann. We were actually looking the speak to the Prince but if you need some help."

Toston casts mage armor on himself, preparing to do battle with the zombie that popped out of the ruins.
"On second thought maybe we shouldn't quaff potions right now." he says to Var.
Active Effects: mage armor - 2 hours [120 rounds] = +4 AC
