Having stopped an attack of fire elementals and then vanquished the undead horrors that appeared in a nearby graveyard, the party returns to the Manor. As they heal their wounds and calm the populace, they think back on the visit by the Iron Dragons’ Tink and Katrina Hushfoot
There is also a new person of power that has come to town - Tishe. She's a rather ordinary woman, dressed in loose, khaki clothing. Remarkably unremarkable.
The locals seem to be in a better state over the next day or so. The general sense of doom seems to have lifted somewhat. At the direction of Lord Hmitri and his guards, repairs begin on the damaged flour mill and bakery. While the bakery building was lost, the baking ovens are still intact and usable. Makeshift tables are set up and they are able to make bread. At least as long as the weather holds.
In addition, there is a burned out residence nearby and a homeless family that lost their father in the fight.
A person shows up at the heroes’ door. He smiles a broad smile. “Ah, good day my lords. You are people of importance. I am Hurok, and I have what you need! I have charms that can ward a person from the evils that beset us! Only 10 gold a piece! Surely, you do not want to pass up an opportunity to protect yourself and those you love.” The man holds out a number of glittering charms, some in the shapes of various holy symbols, and some in shapes that hold no meaning for you.
Beyond him, you can see a number of townsfolk looking at the transaction from a distance. Perception DC 15: Highlight to display spoiler: {Some of these townsfolk wear or clutch one of these charms.}

Tishe' stays on with the Keepers of the Vale after Katinka and Garrett leave. "I'm not of the Dragon Consortium", she tells the heroes while displaying her WLA pin, "only a wandering WLA member helping where I am needed." She quickly sees that she can be of help here in ... Magpie Crossing is it?
(The sorceress is used to sleeping rough, so even just a corner of the common room is good enough for her to lay out a blanket for a bed and her cloak for covers.)
In the town, Tishe' goes to help at the bakery and the mill. She has a spell to assist in repairing the ovens and millworks, Lenna's Greater Mending, and as an Arcane Sorceress with her bonded Steelgrass Ring, she casts the spell up to six times per day! "While useful", she tells Lord Hmitri and the families nearby, "the spell can only repair what is damaged, not destroyed. For that", she pins up her sleeves in preparation, "I can help by wielding a shovel with you."
For the peddler, Tishe' is a guest in every sense of the word; home, town, and valley. While she watches and assesses, she waits to see how the Keepers and townsfolk react.

He also has time to have more of a discussion with Tishe. The young man is very happy to see her jump right into helping the town recover. He asks about her and mostly her adventures as he was always willing to regale others with his feats of valor and tales of victory over the fantastic creatures of the Wold.
A helping hand is its own reward. His uncle always would tell him and it is a phrase he began using when he would be thanked by the townsfolk.

DM Mark - Welcome Tishe Thursday January 4th, 2018 12:19:06 AM
Though a newcomer to this place, Tishe wastes no time. She moves about the destruction, helping where she can, mending what’s broken. While the locals are initially apprehensive during this time of trouble, they quickly warm to the helpful woman.
Velarin welcomes Tishe to the Manor.
Brom pitches in with the cleanup. He glad to see Tishe helping, though these people are new to her. That speaks well for her character. Brom asks her about her adventures, sure that a person like her has a tale to tell. Barratore likewise lends a hand.
Edson also helps out and welcomes the Tishe. He shakes his head at the peddler.
The peddlar Hurok is persistent. And largely ignored by the heroes. He turn his attention again to the locals. They are quite eager to buy the man’s trinkets for the protection they offer.
Lord Hmitri meets with the heroes to convey what he has heard from the other members of the Pitchfork Council. There are various reports of problems, but it seems they are being dealt with locally.
He shares that Dulcet has bloodwitches from Witchspawn dispersed across the Cinnamon Valley to try to bless and calm the populace. They report that this is helping, as people seem to be less fearful and many that left are returning to their homes. Others are organizing to ensure animals and fields are being tended to where needed.
Tales come from Merrydale that a sudden flood of seawater appeared in that town. Two people were drowned in their homes, and the water soon drained away into the local waterways, killing the aquatic creatures in the nearby streams. This is the result of a temporary connection to the Elemental Plane of Water.

Tishe' watches Emrys' manipulation of the peddler; it's obvious he doesn't need any help! When she is out and sees any townsfolk wearing the amulets, she mentions that any of the local clerics would be able to Detect Magic to verify there are actual magical protections on the item. "It seems sunbaked that even a minor magic potion normally costs 25gp and this peddler's picks are selling for much less..." But ultimately, she feels the townsfolk and peddler too have the freedom to make their own choices.
The middle-aged sorceress is happy to have the welcome of the Keepers and the immediate reward of helping the townsfolk. Being out and about gives her the dual benefit of learning about many of the people and town, and allows the people to learn about her! She is quite free with her time and energy, providing a helping hand here, a Prestidigitation spell there. Perhaps the odd Locate Object or Grease spell if needed. The only magic she reserves for herself is her daily Detect Scrying, having too often been spied upon by enemies in the past.
She is happy to talk about her past to the townsfolk and the Keepers. About how she was born in Hook City of the Southern Continent and began adventuring by trying to find out the origins of her parents, who had amnesia about their lives in the town of Rattledam on the Sargrass Plains. She traveled to Rattledam with a minotaur named Machasthai on a druidwood ship "that floats on the Sargrass like a sailing boat on the water, and met the Bloodpack, a group dedicated to the protection of the Sargrass. I learned a lot from them; Trellus, Grymash, Gilan, Flea, Jake and others; and we had many adventures." Among her tales were - fighting slavers ship to ship on the Sargrass, or underground, or the domed GrassTowns - the strange and hot Sargrass, where spilling water on the ground could kill you because of all the beasts and insects attracted to the moisture - travelling to the Ice Vein, a land as perpetually cold as the Sargrass was hot - fighting side-by-side with the Children of Chaos, a great heroic group of Southern Continent adventurers - meeting, fighting, and judging the Avatar of Eberyon the year he awoke from his enchanted sleep
To Edson, however, Tishe' looks a little puzzled, then shakes her head. "I'm not weft and web with the KeeperPack, Seiur Edson. You all seem to be the night's soil, but I'm a Walker. Let's let us weave side-by-side for a time before we see what pattern appears."

Perhaps just by instilling a bit of confidence and or calm to the person wearing it for the thought of protection would allow them to not panic in a crisis. Keeping your wits about you was step number 1 to staying alive.
The news of the drowned people in Merrydale is sad, but it could have been worse. He could do nothing for them or the waterways and so it soon departs his mind.
Tishe is a fascinating little ball of a human girl though. Lands of heat and Ice on the far off Southern Continent. Tishe’s ministrations and magic are welcome in the town. She speaks to Edson in a foreign language. Edson is worried he offended the woman. As she shares her tales with the others, . Brom and Barratore are impressed. They are also saddened by the news from Merrydale. Then Barratore heads to the Catacombs.
At the manor, the peddler smiles as he is invited in by Emrys, who then locks the door and turns on the man. He asks about the trinkets the man offers and says, “"I wonder ... would they protect you from me? Let's discuss price!" Emrys does his best to intimidate the man and is quite successful.
Alarmed by the locked door, the man is quite shaken and backs away from Emrys as he looks at Edson, Tishe. Brom and Barratore. “P-p-protect me from you? Hey, I don’t want any trouble. If the price is too high, I’ll just be on my way. Unless - here, you can just have this one for free. Just please let me go…..” The man’s plea ends in a whimper. Being intimidated and threatened is clearly not what he expected from the heroes. With Emrys between him and the door, he eyes other doorways out of the entryway. One of the house servants comes to watch what’s going to happen to the man.

Tishe' laughs jovially over Edson's apology. "Why, there is nothing to apologize for!", she exclaims in bemusement to the only member of the Keepers who is nearly the same height as herself. As she continues, she tries to make herself understood better. "I think it is wonderful that you are so welcoming. It is I who do not want to impose on you. For all you know, I could be any bouncing treadle seeking a white-handed life. To, how do you say, mooch off of your hospitality?"
The sorceress lays a gentle hand on Emrys' forearm; Hurok's sniveling offer to be robbed by the heroes obviously not being the BloodWitch's intent. Surely not! "Since you actually aren't going to turn him into a newt, Seiur Emrys, what suggestion do you have for the gentleman?"
The middle-aged sorceress is happy she is being accepted by the townsfolk and the Keepers (though even the elf Velarin stands taller than the short human woman!). Her help, physical and magical, is accepted, as do the stories of the hot, hot Sargrass Plains. Her next stories, however, are only for the Keepers when they are within the Manor...
"It was a good Pack, and we did good work, but we also learned the secrets of the Sargrass and became a threat to the rulers of Rattledam; the very group we were supposed to be working for. I may not tell these secrets, for I promised to the Manfri and the Sargrass Power itself 'Talki fresal, dondit likki', which means 'the land my life'. But what happened is..." And she tells the rest of her time in the Sargrass: - that Rattledam held a secret power and the Council erased the memory of anyone who got close to knowing (which was how her parents came to live in Hook City without knowing of their past) - that the Council tried to wipe the Bloodpack memories, then tried to have them killed (and did kill the Council Member mentoring the heroes) before the Bloodpack escaped. - that the Bloodpack raided Rattledam and succeeded in freeing a chrysalis floating in a pool of Woldsblood under the town - that with the help of the Manfri (pygmies who wove magical GrassSteel items and taught the first Spellweavers) they matured the chrysalis and freed the new Sargrass Power - that something happened (there is much speculation) and all of the Sargrass Plains flooded in Woldsblood, but the Sargrass Power provided portals for remnants of the people to escape.
"And part of the Bloodpack that was left at that time jumped through a portal. But instead of following the refugees wherever they went, we arrived with some strangers at the Standing Stones outside the town of Witchspawn. After discussion with some of the locals there, we decided to stay and become a group called 'Sunrise Song'."

The peddler Hurok finds himself locked into the entryway of the Marnor. He looks fearful and very unhappy.
Tishe places a calming hand on Emrys’ arm, and asks that if Emrys will not turn the man into a newt, what advice does he have?
Hurok gulps visibly.
Velarin urges Emrys to let the man go, suggesting that the man is not actually doing anything illegal. Then Velarin retires to another part of the Manor to think.
Barratore clarifies that he’s not threatening the man, but the Minotaur is used to being misunderstood.

The man looks at the elf nervously and pauses before he replies, “I, well, my wife and I make these and we sell them for what we can. I confess that I was asking more from you folks than I generally get from the townsfolk. I can give you the price I charge them - generally between 1 and 5 gold. I can see now that you have no need for such things.”
“What do you intend to do with me?”
----------------------------------- As Velarin paces in the other room, he ponders what he’s seen, trying to puzzle out what’s happening.
He knows that there was a general sense of doom, a feeling that something is not right or out of balance, though that has lessened somewhat. He knows with the first incident in town, there was a smell of a wooded area, a thick mist, and mushrooms native to the Twilight Vales. Something twisted one poor soul seemingly inside out. He surmises that perhaps being caught and torn between two planes might cause such a thing. He recalls that there was a very puzzled satyr that did not know where he was and longed to return the the courts of Maab. He knows that the salamanders blamed each other for the folly of going through a gate they saw appear. Powerful undead appeared in the graveyard, seemingly out of thin air. Emrys recalls that a graveyard has a sympathetic connection to the Lands of Rest and the Estates of Unrest where the souls of the dead reside. He remembers news of strange happenings elsewhere continue, including a sudden flood of seawater in an inland town.

She has provided the jist of her adventures in the Sargrass to the Keepers, as well as her packs unexpected arrival in Cinnamon Valley near the WitchStones. There will be time in the future to talk about those next adventures. Tishe's attention goes to the tall elf wizard.
When Velarin brings his musings to the group, the Keeper's guest considers while tucking a stray lock of wavy brown hair behind an ear. "I'm not book-shady, but can at least see the general pattern. It sounds like portals are opening to the other planes. Water, Fire, Unrest, Twilight. Koshe Marr", she adds in a shuddered afterthought. "Where and what the pattern is I can't see, but we should report our known sightings to the WLA. Maybe with adventurers all over the Wold reporting, a pattern can emerge."

The peddler stands there nervously, locked in the entryway of the Manor.
Edson suggests that a modest twenty percent increase over the man’s costs should be sufficient. Emrys has another idea. He unlocks the door, and before Hurok can bolt for freedom he offers the man a business opportunity. Even in his fear, this catches his attention. Emrys will give him 100 gold to produce a symbol of his coven. The man’s earlier apprehension seems to melt away and he quickly shifts into a business mode. He gets more details about what Emrys wants, and even pulls out charcoal and paper and makes some sketches to the bloodwitch’s liking. He proposes a pentagram in silver, with the roots in gold. He asks if Emrys wants a brooch, cloak clasp or a amulet? Or perhaps something else?
Tishe is done with the peddler, and turns her attention to the curious events related by Velarin. With Velarin’s insight, Tishe tries to puzzle out what’s going on and suggests informing the WLA. Velarin suggests what might be next with these planar connections.
Barratore listens to Tishe and Emrys discuss matters. He recalls that the only WLA outpost in the Cinnamon Valley is in the town of Jarlswolf about 20 miles away. He offers to convey the information to the WLA in Jarlswolf and sets out on foot unless someone offers a more expedient way there.
Unexpectedly, a messenger arrives with a note for the good Shepherd Baslim. Baslim reads the note, and becomes very serious. “I’m afraid that I must take my leave of you for a bit. Information: One of the League's primary tasks is to gather local knowledge and information, to offer WLA members situational awareness of events in the Wold, which makes the chapterhouses a font of eclectic information. Normally, you need to have at least one skill rank in a Knowledge skill to attempt skill checks above DC10. When you are at a chapterhouse, you may attempt those checks even if you are not trained. V knows the minotaur well enough. While he had planned to jog to WLA and back in the same day, Barratore mentally changes his plan easy enough well Tishe brightens at the trip. Nothing wrong with slowing down and enjoying the road a bit.
Upon arriving, Barratore heads to The Last Drop, providing Tishe some background on the tavern's name. After those who were killed by the Jarl during his reign years before. Barratore will point out buildings and areas providing some background of his new home. Local Know 15 taking 10
After some good lamb stew and a stout, Barratore suggests The Inn of the Broken Cauldron before heading to the WLA chapter house. Barratore is planning on a big breakfast and the Cauldron is where to get it. Being of Champion rank in the WLA, Barratore makes sure Tishe has access to everything she might need or want at the Chapter House. For his part, he says he wants to make a small tour of town and will meet her for dinner at the Cauldron.
On his walk, Barratore makes it a pint to be seen and to swing into Thatches to say hello to Thaddius. otherwise he is about to get a first hand perception of how everyone is doing

Brom wishes Shephard well before he leaves. The cleric will be missed.
Brom doesn't add anything to the peddler talk. Enough had been said already.
He spends his day continuing to assist with the rebuilding.

The peddler Hurok clarifies what he can from Emrys about what he wants, and takes his leave.
Brom cheerfully spends his time helping with the rebuilding. With his extreme strength and high dexterity he is a big help.
Velarin offers to teleport Barratore to Jarlswolf, knowing that minotaur would rather go on foot. Tishe, eager to explore, offers to go with the Barratore.
So the two set out for the City of Jarlswolf. They arrive, and the fame of the Keepers of the Vale quickly attracts attention to the large hero, and by extension, the slight sorceress he is travelling with. Barratore visits the local establishments. He and Tishe are welcomed at the WLA.
Barratore has no limit of those wanting to buy him drinks and food. He has a really good time with the locals.
Tishe relates what she knows and has heard from others about the recent happenings. They are grateful for the information, and have some theories. They believe that there is a thinning of the boundaries between the planes, and that this has expressed itself as occasional connections and gates. They do not know what has caused this. But they do believe there is a cause, and that the general sense of doom people felt porteds that something worse is still to come. As such, the WLA is preparing for the unknown, bolstering strongholds, ensuring clear lines of communication, and strengthening local leaders where they can. They regret that they have little more to offer, but they encourage Tishe, and through her the Keepers of the Vale to be ready.

V checks his supply of potions after the departure of Baslim, and concurs with Tishe'. "We will definitely need to address our healing capability. I have quite a few cure moderate potions, but I am not usually very close to the front line. I would be happy to, and suggest we all do, split the cost one or two wands of curing. Perhaps a heavy duty one for combat, and a minor one for clean up after the battle. We all just cashed in. Any opposed to Tishe' Procuring said wands for group use with everyone splitting the cost"
While Barratore and Tishe' are gone, V will hope nothing major occurs with their recently depleted numbers, and asks Barratore about their locational plans while in Witchspawn in case he needs to teleport in to grab them and get back in a hurry.

Tishe’ wasn’t expecting more than what she got, but a tapestry isn’t made with a single thread. Eventually, she is confident they will know why, and in the meantime, preparation of mindset and a stronghold sounds like good advice.
She enjoys walking half of the Valley and is happy to see Barratorre and the Keepers have a good reputation with the various people of the Valley. “The Valley doesn’t look much different since the last time I lived here with Sunrise Song”, she comments on the way back to Magpie Crossing as they walk in between Wolf Mountain and the Glitterox.
Upon return to the Manor, she reports what WLA has gathered for everyone. “Reinforcing the local strongholds seems a good precaution. Magpie Crossing and Jarlswolf both have castles. What fastness does Merrydale and Witchspawn have? And who do we talk to to get the people thinking about setting up safety refuges for ‘just in cases’?”
Tishe’ is more than happy to pitch in and work to improve or build a stronghold for the people... under someone else’s direction. Her knowledge and skill is limited to which end of a hammer to use!

Barratore enjoys his time in Jarlwolf, but politely declines offers to be purchased drinks. He always buys the round. On the trip back he eyes Glitterox a bit wearily. "Last time I saw Glitterox I was being ejected from it into the clouds. There is a story for certain. Garret rode a Dragon, me and Brom and the rest rode a volcanic eruption." he then has to grin a bit. That would make a fine story. He'll have to remind Brom to put a story together. The barbarian was much more gifted than he at performing such things.
Back home, Barratore looks to V, "She has a good thought. I'll start writing up plans for a keep here to lay and shelter in event of emergencies for the people. "
Barratore begins drafting some ideas that would offer the people of Magpie Crossing a stronghold in times of need know engineering 15

Brom continues to assist with the rebuilding and removal of debris. He usually did not wear his armor during the building, but his sword and quiver were always nearby, just in case.
He also thinks he should continues some training. He didn't know what he was going to face, but he wanted to make sure he would be prepared as he could.
One evening, he poses a question to V and Emrys after listening to their discussions about the phenomenons occurring in the valley. "Isn't there a spell that blocks planar stuff? I mean doesn't this stuff sound like the others planes are teleporting into the Wold?"

To answer Tishe, he replies, "Some witches are better than others with magical devices. Magical hackery is taught and encouraged among our fold. Not to sound a braggart, merely stating fact ... I have yet to find a wondrous item that I wasn't able to dominate ... even ones that flow contrary to my own sensibilities. The talent hasn't come without its price."
"As far as healing is concerned, I do have a repertoire of healing spells. Not to mention rituals that can empower them. I can cast these curing magiks from a distance with the help of necromancy and warping the ethereal vale. Not exactly the holy touch of the good Shepard, but it does the job."

Barratore and Tishe return from their trip to Jarlswold with a little more information than they left with. They relate what they’ve learned to the rest of the heroes. Brom asks if there is a spell that will block planar incursions. There is also some discussion about Baslim’s departure and how the heroes might compensate should there be trouble.
Later, some of the party are out helping with the rebuilding. Those outside or near a window see all the local birds suddenly fly away in large flocks, leaving the area. The locals see this too, and look around for what may have startled the birds, but there seems to be no apparent cause. Then Horses start struggling/rearing against their restraints. Dogs start whining and looking to hide. Those nearby either scold or try to calm the animals.
Shortly, a few guards pay a visit to Heroes at the Manor. Lord Hmitri sent them to check in with the Heroes. He’s been around long enough to know that if the animals are upset, something’s up. “My lords, Lord Hmitri bid is to ask if you know what is causing this - what is happening?”
Tishe' (SteveK). AC 22 / T22/ F20 CMD19. HP 114/114. d20+10=25 ; Thursday January 11th, 2018 7:05:48 AM
Tishe' nods in agreement to Emrys' assessment, and adds to Brom. "I have a spell to block planar travel, Dimensional Anchor, but it only stops creatures from leaving the plane they are currently are on. I aquired the ability when the Sunrise Song was fighting Skalipy, but was never able to use it. The white-handed treadle was slippier than a greased Bounder!"
The brown-eyed sorceress is pretty good at animal husbandry, and agrees with the Lord Hmitri. "I suggest those with armor get it on, and have weapons and backpacks at the ready", she says. "Animals can react that way to earthquakes or spiritual phenomenon. Do the Keepers have a magical means to observe the area? Perhaps there is a central place you should stay for a runner to find the Keepers of the Valley?"
Tishe' is already ready. With her magic inherit within, her quarterstaff doubling as a walking stick, and her worldly possessions either about her person or within her Pants O Plenty, the Spellweaver is ready for an afternoon stroll, building a retaining wall, or fighting the evils of Koshe Marr!

V agrees with the thoughts to prepare a haven for the people in times of dire need.
"Well Brom, I have a spell that can prevent beings from leaving this plane for a time, if the spell works on them. I have heard of a spell that can block all dimensional travel in a small area for a time, but i know of no spell that can, on a large scale, prevent dimensional travel. Since these gates can seem to open anywhere at any time, we have no way to prepare and plan to prevent them.
V watches the birds flee the area, and upon arrival of the guards, agrees with Tishe'. "Looks like we better gear up boys and girls. I already have everything I need for battle, as my haversack goes wherever I do. Except the bath of course. I will go airborne to try and get a good look at the overall area to see if I can tell what's coming from where"
V casts fly, and after scanning the sky to make sure the trouble is not above them, he starts to ascend, and moves 30' in the air.
