DM Mark - ... and Fire in the Sky.

The heroes discuss preparations and make their own. Velarin flies up into the air to get a better vantage for any trouble.

In the wake of all the animal activity suddenly things get eerily quiet, so quiet in fact that you could hear a pin drop if you were so inclined. It doesn’t last long. All of a sudden there comes a horrendous crash and things sound as if the Wold is tearing itself apart. The sound is so loud that you can’t quite pinpoint where it is coming from and if you were hard pressed to guess you would have to say everywhere but you aren’t quite sure how that is possible but suffice it to say it is that LOUD.

Eventually the racket subsides and you hope for a second that maybe whatever that was signified the end of all the troubles happening of late. If only things were so fortunate because not even a full moment after the thundering noise ceases does the ground start trembling again...could it be an earthquake?
This activity feels different as if it is in reaction to something major and not the main event itself. Is the Wold really being split apart? Have the Woldians done something to anger the Gods? Who knows?
The ground you are standing on rocks back and forth like a ship tossed about in a tempestuous sea. Bits of rock, dust and other debris start to fall from the nearby structures and fissures open up in the ground along the roads and thoroughfares. An unattended cart in your proximity tumbles down one of the chasms that have opened up and after a short amount of time you hear the impact of wood on rock and you think luckily there wasn’t a horse attached to it. This new chasm is filling with water as it bisected the stream near the Manor.

And then just as quickly as the concussive sound appeared and the tremors started, the Wold shaking terminates. You see folk stumbling about. Some look stunned, others panicked. This was easily the loudest sound ever heard in the Wold.

Those that can still hear now hear a fair amount of cursing near the repair work at the bakery, mill and the nearby residence damaged by the fire elementals. Scaffolding and materials have fallen down.

Everyone make a Fort save vs DC20 or be deafened.

Tishe will notice that her ring takes on a red hue and start to glow slightly.

Meteors can be seen streaking across the sky, with brilliant sparkling colors trailed by fiery tails.

Quiet. Then... Tishe' clamps her hands over her ears, screaming herself over the cacophony of sound! It stops and she blinks, only to see the assault renewed in the earth itself. Once it is over, the sorceress is shaken but thankfully unhurt.

Looking about, the Spellweaver notices her SteelGrass ring, her arcane bond and one of the last connections she has of her time in the Sargrass... it is red and glowing. Her eyes grow wide, but then her mercurial attention hears the cursing in the town, and hurries to help. "A couple of Lenna's Greater Mending will put the buildings in danger of completely falling on more stable footing", she says decisively.

While ascending to look for trouble, Velarin is shaken by the apparent sound of the Wold tearing itself apart, and covers his ears as the deafening noise grows. V watches from 30' in the air as the ground shakes and opens, and buildings and people are tossed about like dice in a tavern. The wizard finds himself momentarily unable to move as he watches the scene below him unfold.

And then, just like that, it seems to be over. He looks around at the dazed populace struggling to their feet, or fleeing from damaged buildings. Oddly enough, the Wold is silent. Where is the screaming and the cries for help in the carnage below. V realizes that he is not hearing anything. He focuses on hearing something...anything...and slowly a ringing starts in his ears, and the noises from below slowly creep back into his senses (Fort save V. deafness = 19, fail. Using hero point to add +4 luck bonus to the roll. 19+4=23 save).

Velarin shakes himself from his stunned stupor, and begins flying around the area looking for those that are in need of help or calling for assistance, and will lend his aid wherever needed.

Edson clamps his hands on his ears as the world goes quiet.

Way too loudly he yells at Tishe "What in the wold was that!" Obviously not knowing the sound of his own voice.

" What's that in the sky?"

" Are you saying something?"

" Where are the others?"

"What are you saying? I can't hear you."

" Whats that ringing

Brom is not deafened from the sound, but he is concerned. The sky was falling, the ground was splitting, and he wasn't drunk.

He moves to find V, Emrys, or Tishe. As soon as he finds one of them, "Fly me." He says. "Gonna head up and see what is goin' on. After that we can work on a plan to move as many people in town to a safe area and see if we can ride this out."

Barratore looks about from right to left as everything goes quiet. His hand drifts to his sword hilt when the sound wave hits. Rolling without seeming to end, the taur grits he teeth and squints his eyes, his ears flatten to protect themselves. When Edson stays yelling he holds up a hand to settle the man's volume. First thing was to get....the pitching Wold breaks his thoughts. The long months at sea coming rushing back to him and he rolls and bounces with the trembling ground, sea legs helping him stay upright.

When all is done, Barratore moves to the tear in the ground as Brom and V take in the area from above.

(Fort Save 26 vs deafness ... success! Perception: 35)

The first moments of awareness offer little explanation.

Everything restarts in slow motion.

Blinded by a shroud of white that slowly expands ... revealing his surroundings semi-frozen in time.

His reality being redrawn in violent eruption.

The recoil sends him to the floor as he becomes awash with sound.

Emrys shouts, "DAEMON! WHY IS IT NOW YOU CHOOSE TO MIND YOUR FORKED TONGUE?!"

He wonders why his viper friend chose to remain silent during a moment of urgency when all other animals clearly perceived a threat. He wasn't wanting an answer ... he only needed someone to blame for the moment.

The ringing quickly fades as his fortitude breaks through the immediate deafness. He's amazed he can still hear ... his pointy ears being so especially keen. Will wonders every cease?

After hearing Brom's request, Emrys replies, "As you wish!" He starts an incantation that gives himself and four others the ability to take to the air ... and possibly flee if need be.

(Casting Wind Walk on himself, Brom and three others who can not produce the ability to fly for themselves. Duration: 14 hours. Shared with Daemon.)

Brom receives the spell from Emrys. He quickly gets a this is what it can do talk about the spell. In a flash he is up into the air and scanning the area for an origin of the sound and Wold breaking. As soon as he sees anything curious, he is over there.

The Keepers ears are left ringing when the ungodly noise finally ends, most can hear but even those that can are checking there ears in discomfort. Tishe' notices her ring has taken on a new color but she puts thougts of that aside to help the town deal with any damaged buildings that may be near collapse. At this point the town looks more like a war-zone then anything else.

Edson , as with many of the others, is shaken by the blast but it takes him a bit to realize that he cannot hear properly. Brom is able to hear and asked to be given the power of flight along with those others that cannot fly on their own. Barratore once the nosie dies down moves to investigate the new rift in the ground.

Emrys after looking for an answer heads Broms request and casts Wind Walk on those that need it.

From thier vantage points in the air Brom, Velarin can see that one of the many meteors that had been seen streaking though the sky has impacted not far away. Seeing the impact point brings home to Emrys that he is again feeling a generalized sense of dread about what is going on.

The town is mostly quiet except for the townfolks attempting to get a handle on what has transpired. Even those on the ground can see the cloud of dust that was kicked up at the impact sight of the meteor. It does not take much of a leap to guess that this is far from the end of the current problems.

Tishe’s accepts Emrys’s offer and soon has Overland Flight. While slower than her Fly spell, OF has the benefit of lasting a long time and besides, why waste magic? Tishe’ again Uses her Lennas Mending five times, only saving her Arcane Bond for emergencies because of the feeling of foreboding.

(Emrys had cast Wind Walk, not Overland Flight. After 5 rounds, you transform into a gaseous form (like the spell) of vapor and can travel through the air at great speed, up to 60mph. You can transform back to a solid form at will, takes 5 rounds. You can continue to do this as long as the spell lasts. This spell lasts 14 hours.)

Noticing that Edson is in distress, Emrys moves over to examine his friend. After determining that Edson was indeed deaf (mostly due to the fact that the good rogue had just told him), Emrys places his hands on Edson's ear and casts a spell to restore his hearing (Casting Heal spell).

Before the decision to act is made from the direction of the impact a red glow is clearly visible from the impact site.

Thought various means of travel the Keepers quickly make their way to the sight of the closest meteor. While traveling to the site it becomes clear that this is not an isolate incident. Hundreds of meteors can be seen streaking across the sky and it is clear that most will land someplace. As you get closer the air is dusty causing a red haze to hang in the air. You can taste the dust and it irritates your throat and eyes although you can still see fine.

Closer still you can see small animals running from the site and crater, bigger then a house, in the ground ahead of you. Closer still you ears register the sound of other low thumps presumed to be other far off meteors coming to a violent rest.

The group gathers about two hundred or so feet form the lip of the crater. You can make out a small area of red crass surrounding the crater and small animals writhing in pain, twisting on the ground. Close to the group the can see a raccoon with patches of hair missing and blood covering its skin in a thing sheen. A high, unnatural sound escapes the wretched creatures mouth as it looks to be slowly dying.

If you look towards the actual impact point the air becomes thicker with dust obscuring your view by both normal and enhanced sight.

Map will come up tomorrow, so you can see the area. (It is on my home computer I realize now).

Emrys materializes next to Brom and says, "If so, I would keep a good distance." Understanding what he knows of Woldsblood, his daily thirst for the crimson nectar, he observes what he can from a distance. More than a drop at a time is too much to handle (Perception: 22).

(I'm assuming you meant "Red Grass" instead of crass. Or is this shade of red being particularly coarse and insensitive?)

"Let's see if I can grab one of the dead creatures near the crater." Emrys begins to mutter strange words of power. The cantrip seems to take longer to cast than it normally should.

Barratore takes in the scene and snorts. He didn't like it and pulls his bow. "Edson, you should head down and check it out." Barratore adds after a short pause, "We'll cover you from here."

Tishe' arrives with Barratorre and slowly turns from a gaseous form to more solid while looking around and taking the scene in. The sorceress pats Barratorre's forearm in warning. "If Seiur Emrys is correct, the Woldsblood is the most dangerous opponent right now. The holy Fixers of Alemi are the only ones who have a mandate to interact with so pure a form of magic." She raises an eye at the BloodWitch in invitation to continue, knowing Emrys will supply his own tradition's wisdom on the powers and dangers of Woldsblood.

"Still, there is an easy way to find out", the Spellweaver continues, and she pulls a wand and steps nearer the raccoon. "If it is Woldsblood, I should feel the pull as I get nearer."

If Tishe' feels no effects of Woldsblood, she casts Cure Light Wounds on the raccoon from her wand. If there is a pull of Woldsblood, she warns the KeeperPack, then casts Magic Missle to put the poor animal out of its misery.

As the party watches from a distance the red GRASS (not crass) seems to slightly change shape as if not quite in its final configuration. The shape of the blades change slightly and then change back still maintain the red color.

Seeing the red grass and the effect that area is having on the wildlife Brom asks if they are dealing with Woldsblood. In a similar fashion Barratore suggests that Edson go check it out while he stays at range. Velarian arrives a little late to the party and is not sure what to do.

{Velarian and Tishe’s given your rolls you know quite a bit about woldsblood and know that it doesn’t really match up to what you are currently seeing. Not sure what actual info to give you since it does not seem to be in play but you know enough to make assumptions}

Tishe’ casts CLW on the raccoon and does not feel any indication of Woldsblood being at play though the healing spell does not seem to overly help the poor creature. Emrys spots a squirrel in a bad state closer to the crater and, using Mage Hand, brings it back towards the group for examination.

As the group ponders what is going on the sound of a low thunder builds until, from the area of the crater, a dozen or so huge horned bulls with thick shaggy hides and very wide horns bursts forward stampeding in the direction of the group. Like the other smaller animals these seven-foot-tall bulls are frothing at the mouth and blood can be seen on their hides where patches of hair have fallen or been ripped out. Over the din of their approach you can hear a loud deep sound emanating form the creatures that could be terror or rage induced.

Velarin flies straight up 30' and drops an empowered fireball at K20, encompassing the 4 closest adversaries. (damage 55. reflex save of 24 to take 27 damage)

Barratore, remembering that V had once talked about other defensive spells he could cast on him if the fighter did not rush off, only moves forward 5'. Barratore quickly calls forth his bow, takes Deadly Aim and lets a shaft fly. He fires at the bull just to right of Brom (Blue @ N/19)

He then stores the bow just as fast into the Efficient quiver and Dons his Shield

"Not Woldsblood", Tishe' says with satisfaction, then heals the raccoon. The reaction to the healing is not what she expected, and the woman absently tugs a lock of wavy brown hair behind one ear while she thinks.

When the herd of large, red(ish), mad bulls charge, her mind starts wondering across other threads. "Were they brought here in the meteor or transformed from the impact?", she wonders aloud. But the actions of the KeeperPack are right, she thinks. First priority is contain the damage, and that means to put these beasts down.

The first step is to not distract the fighters from needing to protect a vulnerable sorceress! Tishe' casts Fly on herself and matches Velarin's feat of flying 30' straight up from where she stands.

Safely out of the way, she seeks to slow down a bull by casting a Quickened Grease spell to create a 10' square spot under the lead bull of another group (Red Bull at K/11. Reflex DC 20 or fall prone). "I'll keep the group on the right busy", she calls, "until you are ready to put the poor creatures out of their misery!"

For ease I have labeled the groups of Aurochs

As you react to the stampeding herd coming the direction of the party it is clear that this group of creatures is affected by the same thing as the smaller animals. Velarin is the first to react and launches himself into the air while raining fire down on the approaching animals. {Ref: 20/25/25/27} Only one {green dash} takes the full brunt of the flames but all are smoking.

Brom by instinct moves ahead while channeling his rage into a strike hitting the charging lead bull. The blade cuts though the hide but does not stop the onrushing animal. Over the shoulder of Brom Barratore buries an arrow into the same charging beast who continues forward eyes wide and red foam on its lips.

Like Velarin Tishe’ takes to the sky so as not to be trampled and cast grease under a bull {red} who skips and topples forward as two of his neighbor’s thunder by. The final bull of that group cannot stop in time and smashes into its fallen companion deal it substantial {43 points!} damage.

Already on a stampede path the center group {2} continues on thought Brom, Edson, Emrys and Barratore wheeling around to face the group again after there long advance. {Damage: 39 | DC25 Strength for ½} Red blood slicks their hides and their eyes are wide in fear and anger.

The norther group {1} spits into two as the lead and final beast collide. Those that continue take a looping path and pass though the space formerly held by the now flying casters. Like the other group they wheel around to face the area that the now flying casters should have been in.

The final group {3} is not at the dead run at the others but the two lead creatures attempt to slam into Brom on a charge. One of the creatures connects goring with its horns. {Hit: 38 / 23 Dam: 32}

Surrounded by tons of steak the party is up.

V moves to 10' over Barratore and casts haste upon Edson, encompassing all within 30' of him, which should effect the entire party.

"Alright boys and girls, you have a haste spell. Be there for a little extra something special in a second Barratore. Without our primary healer, we need to be a little more defensive. Wow, that almost hurt to have those words cross my lips."

Haste: duration 13 rounds. extra attack at primary attack numbers when doing a full attack. +1 to hit, +1 dodge bonus to AC and reflex saves. Move increased by double or 30', whichever is lesser.

Tishe' hovers above the field and assesses the groups of large red bulls. "Their presence sure gave me wings!", she observes. Emrys is at least temporarily handling the large groups east and west, but the sorceress calls out a warning, "Be careful, KeeperPack! Those bulls look strong enough to tear through an Entanglement pretty quickly!"

But Tishe' said she would take care of the bulls on the right, and there are still two there. She remembers Trellus talking strategy in the Sargrass, about how a pack needs to trust packmates who say they will do a pick will do that pick so the other packmates can weave their own picks. Being the new kid on the block, she feels she must prove her worth and words. "So you two poor beasts are my responsibility", she tells the two in the Grease.

Murmuring a spell while weaving her hands, Tishe' casts a Wall of Ice as a hemisphere to cover the two bulls stopped by the Grease. "Hopefully, with nothing to see, they will calm down and not try to break the wall", she says to herself.

Brom gets hits by the charge, but manages to push off the charge as to not take the full brunt of the attack (strength check DC 27). The next group unable to get up to speed only strikes him with a gore.

OOC: I do not see strength checks or damage taken by either Edson or Emrys from the initial charge. Please roll them (DC25 Str for ½) and update HP.

Acting first Edson buries one of his three arrows into prone Auroch.

Above the fray Velarin glides to be centrally located and bolsters his companions with Haste and then buffs Barratore a bit more. Tishe’ hopes her new team can perform well in this situation and turns her attention to the group to the west {group 1}, casting a spell to cut them off with an ice wall {blue hemisphere / Aurochs were prone so no reflex to disrupt the wall}.

Barratore, after taking some damage from the stampede, flat out murders one of the lead Aurochs though the creatures momentum continues forward its legs go out and it slides to a stop. Likewise Brom slays the lead Aurochs that had gored him. {The each took everything you had to kill so all attacks on them.}

After taking something of a beating Emrys does his best to clog up the battle field, casting two spells to limit the mobility of the attacking Aurochs. First he causes the very plans of the group to rise up and grab at some of the Aurochs that had run past {Ref Saves: 25 / 29 / 20 all pass}. Next Emrys, thanks to the Rod of Quickening, summons forth a wall of thorns and bramble trying to clog up the west side of the battle. The creatures in its path take only minor damage from the newly sprouted thorns walls.

Only two of the Aurochs have free movement at this point and they attack the closest targets. First {blue} attempts to gore Barratore but cannot find great footing. {Hit: 21 | Dam: 39} The second attempts to gore Edson connecting with one of its horns. {Hit: 30 | Dam: 37}

The entangled bulls try and force their way back towards the party but only two of three manage to escape while the other struggles to gain ground {Blue Dash}. One gets free but is not near anything to attack while the other {red dash} attempts to gore Barratore as well {Hit: 38 | Damage: 30}.

Near Brom the closes bull gores at him {Hit: 36 | Dam: 41} while taking damage from the wall. The other two try and force their way though the wall. One of them {Red dots} makes some progress but has to go around one of the others. The second cannot get enough traction. All three take damage from the wall.

The final two Aurochs, finding themselves facing thorns and ice thrash wildly in their anger, pain and fear the one who first hit the grease stumbles and cannot regain its footing while the other stands, ready to act.

V surveys some of the battlefield and notes that Edson is likely in or going to be in dire straits shortly. "[B]Edson get out of there![B/}.

Hoping to speed up the removal of some of their adversaries, V flies to T22, at 30' off the ground. He then launches an empowered fireball (damage 58, reflex save of 24 for half damage) at location a19, which should hit three of the Aurochs closest to Edson without hitting any of his companions. The wizard then follows up that with a Quickened fireball (damage34, reflex save of 22 for half damage), centered on the same spot.

TIshe' sees the two red bulls she has targeted are momentarily contained, and so turns her attention to the other areas of the battlefield.

Blood runs from the gores Brom has received, but that only makes the fight more fun. Brom begins to sing his battle hymns as he starts to enjoy the fight. His sword is directed to the bull in front of him. He finds several openings in the bulls rather poor defenses and lands viscous wounds on the poor beast.

Having done a pretty stellar job knotting up the battlefield Emrys wisely heals himself to some degree. Gliding to a better position the airborne Velarin yells a warning to Edson and unleashes two fireballs leaving three of the creatures smoking but standing. {Green circle 2 saves | Blue circle 1 save | Green Dash no saves in bad shape}

Tishe’ repositions to line up a bold of lightning at three of the Aurochs. The middle creature doesn’t seem to take the full brunt of natures furry but the others do. {Blue solid saved]

Brom continues his assault opening multiple gaping wounds in the creature until it collapses in a pile of blood, fur and innards.

The final entangled bull {blue dash} manages to bust out of the entanglement an advances on those of the parties on the ground. Another loops around towards Edson {Green Dash}.

Two of the bulls {Blue Solid & red dash} stand their ground and both attack Barratore each biting and goring. {Blue Solid - Hit: 35 | 32 Damage: 30 |24} {Red Dash – Hit: 28 | 34 Damage: 28 | 25} Please make a DC25 Fortitude Save

The two Aurochs in the lower part of the thorn wall continue to push through but only one {red dot} makes it clear. Both suffer minor damage.

Behind the ice wall the fallen Auroch frees himself but is unable to escape the wall of thorns. The second starts to move down, around the ice wall.

Deciding not to stand still any longer, Emrys moves a little ways north, with his enhanced speed, and positions himself to get as many of these beasts within his next spell (He moves to U-19).

He begins to mutter dark, heavy words of necromancy and a shadowy mist spreads forward enveloping all the Aurochs to the east.

(Casting Waves of Exhaustion. Range: 60-ft. Area: Cone-shaped Burst. Save Throw: None. All targets become Exhausted. This spell should hit all blue and green aurochs, maybe even red auroch. This cone should miss Barratore.)

Tishe' is concerned about how bloody Edson is, and breathes a sigh of relief that Velarin spells the elf out of the way. "Slow them down, what a shady pick!", she calls to the BloodWitch.

Now to remove more Aurochs from around Barratorre, the sorceress thinks, and casts another Lightning Bolt. Her Arcane Bond, the now red-glowing SteelGrass Ring, then allows her to cast another spell, a Quickened Scorching Ray, which slams into the most wounded-looking red bull left standing!

{I was kind of liberal in changing targets as the clump was already dead.}

The battle continues as Edson holds his position and fires off three more arrows while his teammates yell at him to move. The arrow bite deep into the approaching Auroch {green circle] but are not enough to bring it down. Fortunatly Brom has seen the danger and moves to help Edson brinding down the closest threat. Adopting a defensive position Barratore continues his assault. First bringing down one of the wounded beasts and then another in rapid succession.

Emrys shifts his position and casts a spell exhausting two {green dash and blue dash} of the attackers who had just escaped being entangled. {Some of the others are dead but this will still be effective on the remaining}

A split second after the murder fest perpetrated by Brom and Barratore, Velarin snatches up Edson and relocates the archer. His intention to move Emrys is thwarted as he had already moved to a further location.

Tishe’ begins to summon forth lighting at the pack around Barratore for a second time but shifts her focus as she sees them fall to two different beasts. {green dash and blue dash} The first takes the full brunt of the bold but it only grazes the second. Tishe’ follows up with a Scorching Ray further damaging the lead {green dash} Auroch.

The northern Auroch still trapped in the wall cannot seem to make any progress and takes more damage. Its partner {pink solid} looks around and begins to loop around the wall.

The lower beast {blue dot} frees himself and moves towards Barratore while the other {red dot} tries trample Brom. {Damage: 19 | Brom may AOO or half damage Ref: 26}. Please make a DC25 Fortitude Save

Although badly wounded by Tishe’ the creature {green dash} attempts to trample Emrys. but the effect of Exhaustion limits his mobility.

Tishe' hovers above the battle, waiting. Between Velarin's Chain Lightining and the prowess of Brom and Barratorre, she doesn't want to use a spell on a creature already out of the battle. But then, she doesn't want to let one slip through either...

Barratore is able to get his shield in front of the aurochs attack and then steps away from it and towards the second closing on him. A grin crosses his face, now he could get to both of his opponents at the same time. The healing spell that then washes over him, makes him actually laugh aloud. "Emrys, you're a wonder!"

Velarin flys back to the bulk of the battle and casts chain lightning at the beasts. The lighting hits the first {red dot} fully but only grazes the second and third {green dash / blue dash} of the targets.

Brom: From the Core Rule Book FAQ:
No. Vital Strike can only be used as part of an attack action, which is a specific kind of standard action.


Brom takes a swing before he gets trampled and takes his pound of flesh before following the creature and landing another mighty blow. The creature takes a step and falls dead.

Feeling every bit the team player Emrys heals Barratore a great deal. {140hp} At the same time Edson drinks a potion think of the potential steak dinners ahead.

Feeling his wound knit closed Barratore steps forward and lays into one of the attackers {blue dot}, landing two blows for causing substantial damage. Tishe’ focuses on the creature closest to Barratore {blue dot} and tries to capture it in a Resilient Sphere. Sadly the huge creature is to big and the spell does not take. Huge creature – 15ft space and a 14ft bubble.

The last creature trapped behind ice and in the thorns {red circle} simply cannot get free despite its struggles {Str Check: 14}. The two exhausted Aurochs trudge towards Brom {green dash] and Emrys {blue dash} but only one gets to its target to gore at Brom {Hit: 34 | Damage: 22}. Please make a DC25 Fortitude Save if damaged

Barratores foe {blue dot} takes a small step and attacks with a horns and teeth. {Hit: 33 | 23 Damage: 33 | 27}. The final beast {purple solid} runs past Barratore and loops around head back to the party. Please make a DC25 Fortitude Save if damaged

(Casting Suffocate on Solid Purple Auroch, empowered by Focus Curse. Range: 60ft. Fort Save DC: 28 vs. Suffocation. IF he succeeds, he is merely staggered for 1 round as he gasps for breath. If the target fails, he immediately begins to suffocate. On the target’s next turn, he falls unconscious and is reduced to 0 hit points. Tishe' continues to hover as her spell fizzles on the red bull that is too large for the sphere. "Piggies!", she curses. "I need to do better than waste time and magic when lives are on the line!"

Since Emrys is concentrating on the last unhurt aurochs, Tishe' decides to cover the BloodWitch's back by concentrating fire on the one slowly advancing on Emrys [blue dash]. Weaving her hands, she casts Scorching Ray where three needles of flame strike out at the mighty beast. And then another, a Quickened Magic Missle where five glowing arrows unerringly find their mark!

The fighter pushes his shield out and catches the attacking auroch early and deflects the beasts horns and teeth

Barratore dips his shield and savagely attacks the auroch just in front of him to put it down quickly. the fighter knows he can easily regain a more defensive posture when he needs to engage the rest of the pack

Brom quickly ends the life of the auroch he was facing off with while Emrys staggers another be removing its breath for a moment {Save 34}. Tishe’ brings her magic to bear on the exhusted {blue dash} auroch and while not doing as much damage as she had hope the creature is badly wounded overall.

Edson saftely tucked away at the north edge of the map buries two more arrows in the exhausted auroch and the creatures falls face first into the dirt. Feeling confident Velarin flies further up to get a look at the surroundings. The crater is still, as is the whole area, shrouded in fine dust kicked up by the impact but you can see the outline of the asteroid a ways down a deep crater. Small animals in suffering can still be seen on the ground most moving away form the asteroid as quickly as possible.

Barratore manages to slash the side of the beast circling around him {purple solid} and then swings away at the auroch in front of him {blue dot} with his final blow killing. Wheezing for its breath, the auroch near Barratore {pink circle] desperately tries to strike with its horns but missies by a good deal. {Hit: 22}

Finally, the auroch that has been trapped in thorns and behind a wall this entire fight frees himself and moves towards the top of the wall.

Barratore pivots and brings his sword around in a great sweep. The blade cuts deep and the fighter lets the cut slide up and our of the auroch, and then comes back around and strikes another 3 times.

"Unholy Cow ... these auroch's are tenacious!," he says as the trapped auroch frees itself and is heading toward the very injured Edson. Again, Emrys invokes the power of the creeping root. A ripple of eldrich magik races just beneath the ground, causing a stir in the grasses above. Edson is soon caught up in the wave, awash in healing energies coursing through his body. What is that scent ... Evergeen and fresh, moist earth?!

Tishe' looks about and has to agree with Emrys. Still, if the wounded and crazed aurochs fled, the KeeperPack would have to hunt them down. Better for all to finish it here and now.

She flies towards Edson to get a good line of sight on the last aurochs. "I'll try and slow him down so Brom and Barratorre can finish the poor animal", she calls to the Keepers.

And with that, she makes a couple passes and chanted words that started quickly but end stretched out and languid, casting Slow upon the last aurochs.

V flies over the red circle Auroch near Edson, and should be 60' above it. The wizard then unleashes an empowered lightning bolt at the beast. (Damage 64, reflex save 24 for half)

The chaos caused by so many bit cattle has mostly calmed down and an air of finality seems to be settling as Edson launches three arrows all of which miss their intended target. On the other end of the battle Barratore strikes multiple blows to his target which falls dead bleeding from several new openings in its hide.

Knowing they are without the groups primary healer Emrys reaches out, using the power of the green to deliver a healing spell to Edson. {Healing: 33} Simultaneously Tishe’ attempts to Slow the last aurochs but the creature shakes off the spells effect.

Velarin also focuses on the final auroch flying above it and unleashing a bold of lightning at the creature. The creatures movement cause it to at least avoid some of the damage. {Save: 26}

Though this all Brom holds his position possibly admiring their work a moment too long or maybe just not seeing the threat to the north. Could he have stopped the wounded and diseased creature from bearing down on Edson? We will never know. The muscles in the great beast neck flex and you can see blood seeping though to the surface and red foam flings from its mouth as it brings its horns to bear and attempts to gore Edson removing most of the healing he just received. {Hit: 37 | Damage: 27} {DC25 Fort save please}

At a distance of over a hundred feet from Brom, he doesn't think he would have been able to intercept the beast from behind the wall of ice, which partially block the view of the creature. Even the mighty barbarian has limits to his mightiness. On a dead sprint, Brom charges the beast, at a distance of nearly 100 feet at its current position and strikes a blow into the creature.

Tishe' winces as the elf, Edson is mauled, but the Keepers are converging, so TIshe' waits, delaying once again to determine if more magic is needed.

If the others fail to fell the beast, Tishe' weaves another Scorching Ray spell and three flaming rays strike the aurochs. And if that isn't enough, she casts Quickened Magic Missles to have five glowing arrows unerringly strike again!

Edson takes a solid strike from the beast, stumbles but stays on his feet as he changes weapons. {You owe me DC25 Fort save please}

Brom takes off at a run and closes the distance and lands a solid blow on the relatively fresh combatant. This is quickly followed up by Barratore who strike another might blow at the clearly ill, foaming mouthed, beast. Giving no respite to the creature Velarin calls on one of the must fundamental spells, magic missile, and causes further damage.

Finally, Tishe] launches another Scorching Ray at the creature and the lovely smell of bbq fills the area as it falls DEAD.

Combat Over

With the creatures all down a quick survey of the battlefield shows utter carnage. Twelve, normally docile and majestic, Northern Aurochs lay dead on the field but fortunately none of the party met a similar fate. Even a quick glance tells you that these creatures are infected with something. There fur had fallen out in places and red rash like patches can be seen on the skin. All of their mouths, before being bloodied, were covered in red foam and there dead eyes have a red tinge to them.

"Very curious indeed," he says as he examines the dead beasts. "They may have grazed on infected or poisonous grasses. Look at the red foam around their mouths."

Emrys begins to cast a series of spells. First he casts Detect Magic and concentrates of the body (Knowledge [Arcana]: 44).

He then casts Detect Poison and scrutinizes the carcass (Craft Alchemy: 32, to determine the type of poison, if any).

He then tries to detect the presence of disease by taking out his healer's kit and perform a field test for infection (Heal Check: 20).

Tishe' descends to the earth, pity over the once-majestic creatures plain on her face. "I had thought the skin and redness were due to the blast of the meteor impact: I never considered they may have been diseased. Yet, that makes sense on why my cure wand didn't heal the raccoon."

The spellweaver thinks more. "Racoons don't eat grass, Sieur Emrys, the froth may be a symptom not an indicator of an ingested substance." A thought occurs to Tishe' and the middle-aged woman unexpectedly giggles. "That term is from the patois of the Sargrass Plains, 'eats grass'. It means bad, undesirable, stupid, or yucky. Trellus, the leader of the Bloodpack, would often curse like that when we were in trouble."

"I hope it isn't prophetic."

"Be careful Sieur Barratorre", she calls, "strange diseases are not to be treated lightly!"

Emrys cycles through spells detecting magic and poison but does not come up with anything that way. His investigation along with Broms leads them to the same conclusion as Velarian that this is an infection relating to the meteore a disease but not something any of you know of. Tishe’ rightly points out that raccoons do not eat grass nor do many of the other smaller infected animals that still can be seen around.

As you move towards the crater, still 50 or 60 feet out, you can see more of the red grass. It appears to be almost writhing though it could be some very strange wind.

It also becomes clear that the initial assumption of grass was wrong. Some is grass but the bulk is a variety of weeds. A smell, sickly sweet, emanates from the weeds. Inside the crater, with more grass and weeds over what must be mounds of dirt created by the impact, lies something incredibly bright, almost too bright to look at for fear of eye damage. From the little you can see, color swirls within and when you look away a blob of color is briefly burned into your vision.

Barratore the party moves towards the crater a cry for help, possible a young girl, can be heard to the north.

“Get away from them!!! HELP!! HELP!!”

The call is not far maybe two hundred or three hundred yards to the north. Trees block the view, and the area is a canopy of forest, but the call was unmistakable.

Throughout the fight other meteors were seen in the sky. Now, further in the distance, many miles away most likely, a meteor disappears behind a mountain and makes an unseen impact.

Hearing the cry for help far to the north, Brom starts running in that direction while shifting back to wind form (the wind walk spell last a long time, hours I believe, and can move at 600-ft per round) and moves off at incredible speed towards the cries for help.

Arriving on scene, Brom shifts back into normal form (5 rounds) and draws his sword as he becomes solid.

TIshe' grows more and more concerned as the group moves to the center of the crater, blinking at the immensely bright light. "What's that..." and then the cries come from the north!

The sorceress looks at Velarin and asks, "Dimension Door, 300' north? I can carry Emrys, Edson, and Brom if you can handle Barratorre, and then we'll all be there in a moment, shuttlecocked for action!"

Tishe' gathers the three she named and gives (to her at least) her standard warning. "It will take me a moment to catch my breath, but you will be able to act immediately once we are there. Here we go!"

The spellweaver casts her last 4th level spell of the day, popping the group 300 feet to the north.

The sounds of cries for help spur Brom to action once more. Off he goes at a run towards the sounds. As he runs, the Flight of the Valkyries seem to play as a soundtrack to his actions, ok maybe only in his head.

Barratore stops Tishe, "She sounds 3 maybe 4 times further than you are talking about casting. Unless you're jumping 700 or 800 feet, save the magic. (Dm listed 200-300 yards, 600-900 feet)

While traveling Edson feels off and begins to itch badly and feel a great deal of discomfort in your skin. Looking down you see a dark purple rash. A bit further the nausea and fever begins. {Please Apply Sickened Condition}

At various speeds and methods of transport the group arrives. The first that burst through form the trees discover quite a scene.

Five wagons traveling together. One wagon has a sign Wilbur's Wondrous Wonderments. Another is simply labeled Eels and Eggs. This second wagon seems to be surrounded by a growing puddle of water with an older couple on the ground beside the wagon, conscious but very dazed and itching. Of the other wagons two are clearly houses while the last once held supplies that are somewhat scattered around the ground.

A young boy with a too big sword stands over the corpses of three chickens and a rooster. He has cuts and scrapes that he itches around as you can see a dark purple rash form. A younger girl sits beside him sobbing and draws in another breath to yell when she sees the party.

HELP! EAHHHA”. she looks at the boy “Hide!?” as she scampers behind a wagon.

Taking in the scene you see several dead horses as well as injured people. The boy does not hide but turns, clearly set to defend his family but his mouth drops at the sight of Barratore and he just gapes and the to heavy sword slips from this grip.

“I killed the chickens they were sick. Am I in trouble?”

Looking around you a total of nine adults and children with cuts and scrapes. All have a rash similar to Edson’s. The only uninfected you see seems to be the girl who yelled.

Brom puts his sword away after seeing what's happened. He moves cautiously over to the boy pulling a vial from his pack. "Here, drink it." He says to the boy. "It cures diseases. It should help." He kneels down before the boy, and with his arm outstretched he holds the vial of remove disease out for the boy to take. "We are the Keepers of the Vale, we're here to help; so drink up."

V stops at what he sees, and nods to the boy. "No child. You are not in trouble. You were defending your family, and you can't be in trouble for that." V pauses as he sees Brom move in with a potion

"Be careful everyone. they are all diseased, and we do not know if their minds will react like the rest of those that have been infected.

"The meteor landed quite a ways from here. If it's effect is this widespread, and every meteor is having the same impact, the entire Wold could become infected. This is really bad. Looks like we are going to need to stock up on remove disease items."

Emrys, do you have any additional ability to remove disease? or heal the injured?

Emrys walks over to the young boy and says in a calm soothing tone, "My dear young man ... we are the Keepers of the Vale. My name is Emrys Myrridanmyl and I may be able to cure you with a simple touch ... fear not, this will not hurt." (Diplomacy: 25)

Emrys reaches out and touches the young boy ... a supernatural energy is exchanged between the two.

(Emrys uses his Bloodwitch ability: Cleanse/Fester to cure the boy's infection/disease. Cleanse/Fester is a divine supernatural ability that lets a bloodwitch touch a sick creature to cleanse (cure) all natural and magical diseases in a willing target. The Fester ability (not being performed) does the opposite.)

Tishe' waits in the background, and looks in other directions than the wagon train. The KeeperPack knows their land and people better than she who has gone Walker for years. Besides, Emrys has a loom-full of more healing capabilities than the spellweaver. So while the others concentrate on the people and the disease, Tishe' guards from further outside events.

As they Keepers arrive on the scene they assess the situation and begin to act.

Brom quickly sheaths his weapon and moves to address the new sitation reaching to give the boy a potion to help him recover. The boy holds the potions but stops short of his lips as Barratore gives the idea that they were bit. Hearing this the boy bursts into tears.

No! Not bit. Our chickens were out and found some weird stinky red weids. They went crazy, bleeding and scratching everyone. I……. (he takes a deep shuddering breath} I am going to be in such trouble, I killed them with dads sword. They would scratch and people would start itching and getting sick. I didn’t know what else to do.”

He sister comes out as he speaks.

“You had to do it. See I’m not sick, you stopped them.” The girl looks at the cart with the water under it. "Oh no. The chickens are dead and the eels... they must be dead. No more Eels and Eggs."

As the kids speak Velarin approaches Emrys about being able to remove diseases which he confirms he can before speaking with the boy. At the Emrys touch the boy smiles and hands back the potion to Brom. “Thank you. Can you heal them all?” He gestures to the adults some of who have regained their feet, all of whom are ill. In all there are nine infected people along with Edson who is keeping his distance.

Unable to heal Tishe’ takes up a position in the back acting as a guard. Fortunately she does not see any immediate threat.

Barratore wrinkles his nose a bit as he thinks on what the boy said. "Your dad should be proud of you." he answers, "You protected your family and clan. Nothing more could ever have been asked." Barratore moves to help the older couple get to their feet and perhaps moved to a more comfortable spot than simply on the ground. "We've seen some red weeds and grass growing in a few places now. Meteor might be causing that and if animals eat they become infected and then from there, the infection spreads through contact."

"If that holds, we have an epidemic that is going to be hard to hold in with all the rocks we've spied coming down. 100's of things have got this by now."

Barratore gestures to Emrys and V, "Going to leave the rest to you guys and help Tishe keep an eye for the next horseshoe."

Barratore takes a fairly central spot and keeps his head moving about for something horrible to come at them

V turns to the boy once again. "Where was this red grass at lad? would you show me? Did your animals seem drawn to the grass like it was a special treat, or did they just eat it because it was there?" V will look over the area where the red grass was or is, and try to determine relative distance from the meteor, and whether or not the location would have been in the path of the meteor as it fell. If the red grass is gone or there is little of it here or in the immediate area.....

"If you are able to heal them all Emrys, I would like to return to the location of the meteor strike. I would like to observe that grass, and perhaps cast some spells before seeing what it takes to kill it. If you are not, I believe we will need to do the best we can to help them and keep them quarantined until tomorrow when you are able to heal them."

Tishe' smiles at Barratorre as he paces beside her to watch the surrounding terrain. She doesn't say much at first, just scanning the lands in the Valley for danger, but then seems impelled to speak.

"I'm a sorceress, with innate magic that is pretty good with short time effects but little that can help with wounds or trauma. The Manfri helped teach me how to be a spellweaver, but that is only enhancing my ability to manipulate the magics I already have. And I am very protective of bystanders and children but don't weave well in a motherly role. And so..." Tishe' trails off and waves a vague hand at the hillside she is watching.

Emrys uses his Cleanse ability on everyone there who is sick. Looking at Edson, he asks, "Where and what were you doing when you became infected?"

(He can use the ability 12 times per day. Probably squeeze out two more if he changes into his elderly aspect.)

Brom stands and puts his potion back in his bag. "Right." He says.

Brom decides to use his skills to check the area for strange things that are not suppose to be in the valley, i.e. plants, tracks, stuff like that.

Barratore’s words reassure the boy and he can be seen to swell, just a little, with pride. After Barratore voices his bigger concerns the look of fear is back on the child's face. Tishe’ briefly explains her arcane background and trails off gesturing to the hillside, clearly this is not her wheelhouse.

Emrys manages to clear the rash from those that were scratched or pecked by the chickens as well as Edson. {ooc: 10 total} As the adults recover there is a round of thank you from most of the group, the older couple remains off to the side looking at their cart distraught. The small girl is with them comforting them. “Don’t worry grandma you will be making egg stuffed eel again in no time. Everyone loves them.”

Velarin questions the boy about the red grass and he leads them towards the wet cart. There are two small tufts of weeds and the sickly sweet scent is stronger. You can tell you are a good distance but it does seem to be the only patch you can see. He suggests going back to the meteore sight.

Brom checks the area and does find one stray weed, 10 or 15 yards away. At one point he is sure he sees another small infected animal but it is small and going quickly.

As the party helps the family and decides what to do next there is a shift in air pressure, possible a very minor sucking in and then an incredibly bright flash from the direction of the meteor site. Those you just saved wince and the boy voices what most would think. “This isn’t over is it? You can go, we will be ok now.” You can hear determination in his voice, he will probably grow up well.

"It appears that we need to return from whence we came. I'm out of dimensional doors, but I do have a teleport remaining, and can put us back where we dimensional doored from. I can get myself, Barratore, and two others. Tishe or Emrys, do you have rapid transport available?"

"I'm going to throw haste real quick to keep the twin towers of terror on top of their game. If anyone else has a spell to throw, or a potion to drink, now's a good time. I will cast the teleport right after the haste unless everyone wants to take an additional few seconds for another spell or potion. Now's our buff up time boys and girls"

V casts haste after calling forth his lesser rod of extend from his handy haversack to double the duration of the spell

Barratore regards Tishe for a few moments as she talks. He couldn't decide if a reply was expected. He decides not and turns his attention back to looking for trouble. The flash and pressure wave qualifies and he moves back to the main group. "Hold off on the Haste until we get there. Might not be anything for Brom and me to do". The fighter draws his sword, dons his shield and signals V he's ready to teleport in.

The sound booms, and Brom reaches into his pack and grabs a vial. He downs it before starting his run back. "Save yur spell on me. I'm runnin'. Don't what just happened, I don't wanna jump blind inta it."

Brom starts jogging towards the explosion.
