RobC - "On the morrow then..." Thursday January 11th, 2018 4:57:08 AM
The party retire for the night with peaceful thoughts. The Sea of Leaves, a journey to the Culverwood, and the little sapling
The next morning the party awake refreshed and renewed. It's a glorious day. The residents of the Tree look back to their normal routines and you can see small trades occuring. Everything looks to be on the up and up.
Miles is patroling nearby and keeping an eye on all that is going on. He gives a nod to the party as he passes. Things have been unusual around the Tree and he doesn't want to be caught off-guard again.
"Morning to you!" an elderly trader calls from alongside a fruit stall. His smile is mostly gums, has grey stubble, dark leathery skin and obviously went bald a long time ago. "For your travels" He tosses a shiny red apple to Osul
There's another trader nearby - a young half-elf chap - looking to trade all sorts of bric-a-brac, and a half-orc next to him selling all sorts of iron wares. You can see that he has tried to position his cast iron pots right next to (if not in front of) those being sold by the half-elf.
A few of the children are skipping near the base of the Tree under the watchful eyes of their mothers. "Elf and dwarf. On the wharf. Which one will fall in? Elf, dwarf, elf, dwarf.." This goes on until one of them falls while skipping and hands the rope to the next child.
Saide is just about finished repairing her store, and Lilliput stands at the entrance to the Leafy Chapel ready to welcome the faithful. Both give waves to the party.
The sun is shining the birds are singing. Until... they aren't?
With a large flutter all of the birds in the Tree take to the air. There's a small swarm of them (for lack of a better word) and they're all flying in the same direction: northward and away from the Tree. Every. Single. Bird.
The horses that remain by the Tree are whinnying, tosses they heads about and trying to rear themselves. "Whoa there. Whoa!" Hiflanyl is doing his best to calm the horses but they aren't listening to him. They're pulling at their ropes as hard as they can.
Khan starts padding around near the party. His fur is on end and his ears laid back. He is even baring his teeth and making guttural noises as he moves back and forth.
Even Squeaver is acting strange - twisting and turning around Mack's legs and never settling.
Something has the animals acting weird.
Miles is looking about somewhat confused as are the nearby merchants.
The children don't seem to have noticed though. "Elf and dwarf. On the wharf. Which one will fall in?"

Armand looks around quickly. "This can't be good. Something has spooked the animals."
He casts Detect Magic and begins to look to the south. Perception 7 (d20+4). Apparently a bit a dust gets in his eyes. "Agg, my eyes!" He beings wiping at them. "I hope it's not fall allergy season."

Atlas heads over to protect the children until someone figures out what is going on. He casually buckles his shield to his arm and draws his sword so as not to spook them. " 'Osul, Mack, let us know if you learn anything from the plants or animals."
He then looks closely at the children to see if there is anything that stands out with them, why they might be oblivious to what is going on.

Elyngael quickly goes to Khan to find the source of his irritation (handle animal 1d20 + 10 = 17). She checks around the immediate area for tracks or scents of dangerous prey (1d20 + 15 = 17). She trusts Khan's instincts more than her own right now, so she stays near him.

'Osul catches the apple, says a "Thanks!" and takes a crunching bite out of it - despite the history of receiving suspect apples from the female lead of Snow and the Seven Diminuitive Samuri.* Then he thinks, Why does he think I'm going somewhere?, before the thought is displaced by the decamping flock of birds. "Birds usually fly away from the trouble." "Someone or some more is going to need to help the kids and their moms get clear of the horses that Hiflanyl is probably going to have to let have their heads in order to save them, him, and most everyone on the ground."
'Osul looks to get to the ground uninjured this round to start helping - directing kids and moms to safety, and asking Hiflanyl is he can keep hold of the ropes for another ten-count. {Perception: 40} 覧覧覧 *: One day this is gonna bite bite him, and likely explain what will happen to him as a Druid if he lives to next level.
RobC - "This can't be good. Something has spooked the animals." Friday January 12th, 2018 6:11:40 AM Mack can't work out why Squeaver is acting so odd. He's better at speaking with plants that with animals. Unfortunately the plants don't have anything to say either.
Armand tries to detect magic from the south but even with dirt in his eyes everything looks normal.
Talya tries the same yet she can't see anything out of the ordinary either.
Atlas casually draws his sword as he approaches the children. He has good intentions mind you and isn't approaching them in a creepy way. He can't tell why the children are acting so odd. On seeing him approach though they stop their playing in a bit of awe at the hero. It's then that they too realise that something isn't right as they scan their eyes across the animals. Atlas believes the children were so engrossed in their game that they just tuned out to the Wold.
Elyngael is able to calm Khan down as best she can. He is still alert for something and she can feel the quiet growls deep inside his chest. She's so preoccupied with him that she doesn't notice anything out of place in the surrounding area.
Osul deduces that birds usually fly away from danger. If that's the case then it is likely there is something to the south. He starts rounding up the children and shepherding them to their mothers. Something isn't right and it is best they are with their parents.
In the wake of all the animal activity suddenly things get eerily quiet, so quiet in fact that you could hear a pin drop if you were so inclined. It doesn't last long. All of a sudden there comes a horrendous crash and things sound as if the Wold is tearing itself apart. The sound is so loud that you can't quite pinpoint where it is coming from and if you were hard pressed to guess you would have to say everywhere but you aren't quite sure how that is possible but suffice it to say it is that LOUD (audio file)
Eventually the racket subsides and you hope for a second that maybe whatever that was signified the end of all the troubles happening of late. If only things were so fortunate because not even a full moment after the thundering noise ceases does the ground start trembling again...could it be an earthquake?
This activity feels different as if it is in reaction to something major and not the main event itself. Is the Wold really being split apart? Have the Woldians done something to anger the Gods? Who knows?
The ground you are standing on rocks back and forth like a ship tossed about in a tempestuous sea. Bits of rock, dust and other debris start to fall from the nearby structures and fissures open up in the ground along the roads and thoroughfares.
An unattended cart in your proximity tumbles down one of the chasms that have opened up and after a short amount of time you hear the impact of wood on rock and you think luckily there wasn’t a horse attached to it.
And then just as quickly as the concussive sound appeared and the tremors started, the Wold shaking terminates.
The stalls have shaken most of their goods to the ground and the children are all sobbing. The people nearby are looking all around trying to understand what in the Wold just happened.
Everyone (and animal) to make a Fort save vs DC20. If you fail you are deafened for the next 3 posting days.

Atlas shakes his head clear after the events and looks about to see if there is anyone hurt that he can help. If there is no one near he heads up the Tree to see what the damage was up there. All while muttering to himself, "If this continues we're going to have to move everyone out of the Tree. It isn't safe any longer."

Beordir feels the massive movement of the tree and the attached platform he's standing on, starts to flex like a ribbon in a dancer's hand. He immediately shifts his stance to Walking Branch in Wind, arms outstretched and crouched posture.
Almost as soon as it started, the tremor is over. The crashing cart below has his eyes shifting up where things can fall on his head. Wary of destabalization, he finds the quickest route to the ground and takes it, moving back sixty feet from the Tree so as to not get clobbered from above. Hopefully, he'll be able to go back in for his spellbook.

When the ground stops shaking he looks up into the sky (detect magic still on) and then shakely stands and looks around. Everthing seems a little out of kilter, there is a ringing in his ears, and he can Atlas's lips moving but there is no sound. He shakes his head and immediately regrets it.

He looks to Elyngael questioningly as she speaks to him. Elyngael sadly realizes that her great companion cannot hear her. She changes to the hand signals they use when hunting, and Khan immediately comes to her side. Elyngael begins moving around carefully looking for signs of what caused the destructive sound (1d20 + 15 = 22).
RobC - "It isn't safe any longer." Monday January 15th, 2018 3:04:31 AM Neshi drops to the ground, ears ringing . He's convinced that some big volcanic eruption has take place somewhere relatively close and to the south.

Beordir assumes a monk like stance before quickly descending the Tree and moving to a safe distance. Spellbooks can be replaced but blood is a little harder. I guess?
Mack can hear but alas Squeaver cannot. The rodent doesn't look as agitated as it was and nestles into him.
Elyngael and Khan are in the same position: she isn't, he is. She looks about but cannot see any obvious source for all this chaos.

Armand can't hear properly but looks to the sky. What he sees is quickly noticed by everyone...

Hiflanyl is more than happy to follow, and you get the feeling no matter what was said he was going to take off anyway! He simply lets go of the horses reins and takes off.
Neshi is concerned about the stories he has heard about Mount Bone. Perhaps that has exploded or caused some other explosive phenomenon?
There are some mixed signals: Osul and Atlas call for the Tree to be evacuated. Armand thinks it may be safer in the Tree than out in the open. It could be possible that all are right (or wrong?).
It seems the majority of the residents are in favor of evacuating the Tree, and with the help of Mack and Osul that's precisely what they are doing. Most have only had time to grab sacks and load them with whatever they quickly can. But where do they go? Despite Atlas' words, the people are on the verge of a completely panic. You hear mention of "Plateau City", "Culverwood", and "Red Hills". There's no telling where would be safe though. Should the residents split up and cover all bases? Should they stay together? They are moving all jostling about, and in some cases nudging past Beordir as they do completely oblivious to the hero.
Elyngael and Talya determine that the nearest impact is no more than a days travel from the Tree. Both suggest investigating as soon as possible regardless of any risks. Something bad has happened in the Wold and as Talya says, there's not much that can be done standing around.
Overhead the meteors continue to streak across the sky to other distant locations in the Wold. Is anywhere safe?

I'm anxious to investigate where the closest meteor landed. As soon as we get the people safely out of The Tree and calmed down a little, I'm ready to go.
I'm trying to think of how to shelter these people. Tents won't hold up. The Tree doesn't seem safe. I'm not sure caves are a good place to go, either, with the ground shaking. Although the weather may not be pleasant, being out in the open might be the safest place at the moment? If a meteor strikes close, a shelter really isn't going to stop it.
"Huddle together! Try to keep each other as warm and comfortable as you can. If anyone has any spells to help with that, now would be a good time to cast them, I think."

The ground shook and torn itself apart causing several chases to open. Overhead meteors of strange composition flew through the sky. The meteors sparkled like diamonds or glass. These meteors will probably fall to the Wold shortly, as nothing ever falls up. There is a strange red glow to the northwest, hopefully a fire has not started, but it is a possibility with the meteor's hitting the Wold.'

Beordir flies toward the upper levels without hesitancy. "Grab hold!", he says to anyone who will listen. He starts ferrying people to the ground as fast as his flight enchantment will allow him. Knowing he only has a few minutes, he tries to get those furthest away down to the ground first. Hopefully, when his spell runs out, he will be close to home and can retrieve his gear.

Elyngael tells Talya, "I want to leave and check this out as much as you do, but we better gather everyone first before there is total chaos" Elyngael keeps Khan close as she runs into the Tree to find Armand. She locates him and quickly realizes he has been deafened since he does not respond to her shouts. She grabs a piece of his paper and scribbles a note for him to come outside and help calm people. She adds the direction of the nearest impact on a rough map, then she motions for him to follow her.

It still offers protection against roaming monsters, and we've seen no shortage of issues on the surrounding roads. But not in The Tree, where their ability to get out of the way of subsequent boulders is ... hampered."
He fills the handy haversack, regulation sacks and anything else he and James can carry, and heads down stairs.
"I seem to remember Tormy or his friends saying something earlier that bears investigating...", he adds to James and others descending.
RobC - "There was a Wold shattering KABOOM" Wednesday January 17th, 2018 6:48:11 AM
Before any investigation can be performed the party turn their attention to caring for the residents of the Tree. Everyone gains 1 hero point for putting the needs of NPCs first
It's a combined effort.
Mack has them huddle together but agrees that being in the Tree is not a good option. Osul agrees. There may not be any safe place nearby, but at least out in the open they won't be as confined (read: trapped).
Talya prepares a map to direct the people to Plateau City should they need a "safe" location. There's no telling how bad the city may be but one thing is for certain: the Tree is not safe.
Elyngael and Khan work with Mack to gather everyone together as Beordir helps evacute the upper levels of the Tree.
Armand isn't quite sure about the danger until he receives a note from Elyngael.
Through the combined efforts of the party all residents of the Tree are now gathered around the base. The children are obviously scared but their parents are putting on brave faces to try and keep them calm. You can tell all are afraid though.
The crowd are now paying attention to the party. The heroes have never led them wrong before. They take Talya's map and follow Osul's advice by moving towards the field to the south. It is in the open and away from anything that may fall upon them (meteors aside). If things get absolutely dire they let the party know they will head straight to Plateau City. Miles advises that in the absence of the party he will act ass the leader to guide everyone through this difficult time.
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 24 (T 14 FF 20) , CMD: 26/21, HP 86/86 Wednesday January 17th, 2018 11:40:06 AM "Miles, we trust you'll take good care of them, you always have. We'll make sure you are all setup for success, whether that is in a new city or a new Tree of Parting springs to life when we plant these."
Atlas makes his rounds, saying goodbye to each of the people at the Tree that have been so kind to them. Laughingwater, Moana, Saide, Liliput, Folbre, Ciyradyl, Ryan, etc. He then goes to get his chest and brings it to Miles. "Use this as needed to store valuables. If Mack cannot get into it then it is fairly safe as long as you bolt it down. I'll pick it up again once you've found a place to settle down, whether that is here or at a new location." Atlas looks about to ensure Mack is busy, then proceeds to show Miles how the treasure chest works.

Once it seems evident the Wardens have done all they can in the evacuation, he gathers up with everyone else, preparing to investigate the impact site.

He watches Atlas's actions then goes over to him. "What are you doing Atlas? You act as if you are going off to your death." Which is actually a rather funny line coming from a cleric of Gargul.
He turns to the crowd. "Remember your homes good people. The Tree has protected you for a long time. I think it still will. It is a sturdy magical tree and it's canopy spreads for a goodly distant. Underneath it you are afforded protection from many things."

RobC - "Keep safe - keep watch! Are we good to go?" Thursday January 18th, 2018 6:18:34 AM
With all their efforts the residents of the Tree are as ready as they can be. They move to the eastern most area still covered by the canopy of the Tree. If things go badly they agree to head to Plateau City.
Bags and provisions are packed with some being eager to get to the source of these disturbances. The meteor may not be the source of the trouble but it is perhaps the best place to start an investigation.
There are fewer meteors in the sky now. They gradually become fewer until no more can be seen.
The party are ready to move out and you start to move away from the Tree with the hopes of the people driving you on.

He's somber, but he tries to keep a general conversation going through the day so that they don't let the weight of what is happening overwhelm them. However, he doesn't let it get out of hand either. They don't need to let the undead know they are coming.
It's a bit annoying, but he keeps his shield at the ready. His sword stays within its scabbard, but a few times during the day he pulls it out to look it over. He's clearly excited to put his newly upgraded weapon to good use.

Armand will occasionally talk to Atlas and the others, mostly to check how they are doing mentally, it's been an unsettling day. He's not sure if he can accurately determine how Mack is doing mentally, that may take a professional.
"Let's be prudent when we get close. No one go charging off half-cocked. If we have time to observe and determine what's what, we take that time. If something comes at us we deal with it, if there's something there just looking back at us...well looking doesn't necessarily hurt."

She's not sure if Atlas saw her pull ahead or not since she moves with a Ranger's grace over the terrain, and smiles as she sees Atlas readying his sword. The party prepare for the journey
Mack looks about. Things are very quiet now. Highlight to display spoiler: {Can you please let me know how/if Squeaver can speak with birds?}
Neshi ventures a guess about the origins of the meteors? Jericho Space perhaps?
Atlas is a little quiet. Things have been weird enough in the Wold without this new occurence. At least he has his new sword by his side. He takes comfort in that.
Talya keeps her nose burried in her maps and perhaps making new ones? She's confident the others are more observant and will spot trouble before she does.
Armand laments not having the horses back yet. It makes it slow going. He puts forward a battle plan: only attack if you have to sums it up pretty well.
Elyngael enjoys her walk over the terrain. It's good to stretch her legs again. Highlight to display spoiler: {With the party talking normally you could be up to 200ft ahead of them and still hear them. More depending on a perception check. I'm guessing this is not how far apart from them you wish to be so have gone with 50ft.} Khan seems happy to be out again as well.
Osul is a little concerned about how he can speak with the party when in a different form. He tries to predict the weather for the next week, but he's confused. The indicators he looks for are just plain wrong and conflicting. He's done this a hundred times before and has been right every single time. Why can't he predict the weather now?
Beordir is a little worried. He's quite worried about forest fires. That impact could have done anything to the surrounds and a fire sounds quite likely. He's not entirely sure he's equipped for such an event. He keeps an arrow nocked for the entire journey and can feel his fingers start to cramp a little. He tries to detect any fire nearby (with a perception check rather than knowl check). He's not entirely sure...
The air is dusty, the sky hazy with the sun glowing behind. You can taste the dust in your mouth. Though it irritates your eyes, it also makes it a little hard to see.
The closer the party get to their intended destination the clearer it becomes that there is a red glow on the horizon ahead and it isn't the sun.
The party carefully arrive at a distance where they can see a crater some 100ft ahead and it being the source of the glowing light. Around the edge of the crater the grass has turned a dull red and is moving against the wind.
That isn't the strangest or most disturbing sight however.
On the grass all around you can see a terrible sight. Animals lying on the ground, twisting and writhing in great pain. Deer, cattle, birds, and smaller wildlife. All groaning and braying in a terrible unnatural way and frothing at the mouth as they do so.
As you watch you can see the animals suffer even further. Their fur and feathers fall from their bodies as it is washed away from the blood that covers them, like dirt washed from hands. Mack's eyesight is the best and he can't see a single wound on the animals. The blood is seeping out of their skin and eyes. There is something deeply wrong here.
It is obvious the putrid smell attracted some vultures that have landed on the animals that are not moving, pecking and tearing away pieces of flesh. Some swoop at the writhing deer not being content to wait for them to die.
Elyngael is around 100ft (give or take) from the animals.
Squeaver and Khan start acting strange again. Squeaver standing on his hindquarters smelling the air, Khan uttering a soft rumbling growl.

"Do not come too close", she calls back to the party, "there is nothing natural about this. It is killing all in its path. Stay back!"
RobC - "there is nothing natural about this" Monday January 22nd, 2018 5:53:40 AM
Some of the party are more interested in the red grass than the animals. Interesting. Flora beats fauna?
Beordir is almost sickened by what he sees. He recognises the giant vultures and the field rabbits, but doesn't recalls seeing cattle THIS big before.
Talya just looks on in disbelief. There are no words to describe this.
Armand is angry and grits his teeth. He scans the area for any signs of magic but doesn't detect anything from this range.
Osul has never seen grass like this before and has no idea what it is or could be. Highlight to display spoiler: {Please see my email. Thanks}
Mack tries to communicate with the natural grass and vegetation in the area. The nearby grass doesn't actually speak but Mack gets a feeling of fear from it. The GRASS is afraid. He's not close enough to do much else at the moment. He believes the 'grass' is harming the animals despite none of them being close enough to it. Squeaver stands by his side.
Neshi is the same, already considering ways to kill it.
Elyngael tries to calm Khan. She's convinced the grass is killing all in it's path.
There is movement though.
Three of the cattle shakily get to their feet. They still don't look too good. They've lost big chunks of hide and are covered in blood. They look towards the nearby source of noise (the party) and start staggering towards it/you.
The vultures are startled by the movement and take to the air, circling the scene below them. They don't look healthy either.
Mack can see movement in the grass 20 or so feet south-east of the crater but can't see what is making it.
There are still cries from other animals still struggling on the ground.
But there is also another sound: a groaning that is not animalistic. To the west of the crater a humanoid form can be seen rising to its feet.
The grass looks to be writhing by the edges of the crater. Not expanding, just moving around.
------------- Things are getting confusing so I've created a map overview. To be very clear though - NO attacks have been made.

"Atlas... I don't think we should any of these creatures get closer to use. Let me conjure an elemental to approach instead of you."
Talya begins casting Summon Monster II, picturing the form of a small earth elemental coalescing into existence 45ft in front of her.
Groaning Humanoid Monday January 22nd, 2018 3:50:39 PM
The creature staggers to its feet and swivels until it can see the party. A deep, wracking groan escapes what you must assume to be its lips; the blood seeping from its pores and reddened eyes obscures much of its face.
One thing is clear, however: at the sight of Mack, Atlas, and Squeaver's approach a carmine froth bubbles from its maw, and the creature begins to lurch towards them. Its speed seems at odds with its stilted gait and obvious dis-ease. It moves as far as Y25, trailing a tattered and deeply bloodstained cloth and releasing yet another groan: "Aaahrahrauughrrr!"

Mack and Squeaver move closer to see what is going on. Mack can definitely see something moving in the grass not too far ahead of him. Well, he can see the grass moving to indicate something is there. What that may be is still unclear.
Atlas volunteers to approach and say hi. He walks towards the humanoid with a sortof smile and doesn't show any signs of aggression.
Talya isn't sure walking up and checking things over would be the best option. She starts summoning something... just in case.
Neshi offers some aid to Atlas but he's already walking and perhaps doesn't hear him. Neshi wonders what form of attack he shall unleash if he absolutely has to.
Beordir is more apprehensive. He's pretty sure some wicked disease is at work and wonders if there is a way to flee, fight or capture these things.
Armand cautions the group and then casts a spell. (My apologies, I overlooked your Knowl checks. Your Knowl Religion check tells you they are not undead by any means)
Osul takes flight to move closer to whatever is going on. He moves quickly across the ground but does not ascend. His knowledge of nature is quite good, and he recognises the bovines as aurochs. Northland Aurochs to be precises. But these ones look terribly terribly wrong. From this distance he can even see their eyes have turned blood red. He is quite sure that the animals have been afflicted with some sort of disease but none that he has ever heard of. He's not even sure if there's a cure for such a thing. He is wary that as a disease it is likely transmitted to others in some way.
The humanoid thing moans and groans as it approaches. Elyngael takes no chances and quickly fires off two arrows. One sticks in its arm but doesn't slow it down too much. You can now clearly see it is a human man suffering from whatever the animals are.
Mack and Osul - who made perception checks - notice something else Highlight to display spoiler: {That humanoid thing.. is that.. is that Owen?!? Yep. It's Owen, looking very sick and now with an arrow in his arm}

The aurochs charge. Literally charge towards the party. Osul is in the path though. Trample: Osul takes 21pts damage. He can either make an AoO with a -4 penalty, or, try a Ref Save vs DC25 for half damage (10pts).
The vultures stop their circling and instead head towards the party.
Mack is sure there is something in the grass moving towards him. Best guess? 50 to 75 feet away. Whatever it is it's small and fast.

I try not to be bossy, as I hate being in charge. But I quickly try to focus on the clear and present threats (the charging crazed creatures), and keep hope that not everything here is trying to kill us.
I also shift focus away from the moving grass... it could just be a rabbit, for all I know. There seems to be more pressing concerns at the moment. I hear the concerns about hitting from a distance, but this one is already in ranged, and has already trampled Osul.

Mack calls out to cease fire on Owen and then works with Squeaver to flank the auroch (Your second set of coordinate was wrong, in that it put you on top of an auroch). He hopes it won't provoke an attack but against a creature with reach you would probably need to make an acrobatics check to avoid one. Squeaver gets gored by the animals sharp horn (Hit AC29. Squeaver takes 9pts and must make a DC15 Fort Save or catch a disease). At least Mack's attack hits.
Atlas runs in a straight line to aid Owen, but in doing so provokes an attack from one of the aurochs but it misses (Miss AC23!)
Armand isn't so sure about the tactic. A bless spell should help the group though. He DOES have a Remove Disease spell prepared but that would mean getting close to something to target. Not only target, but touch.
Neshi tries a different approach and launches a fireball at the red grass. The fire bursts over the area and when the flames are gone.... the grass still stands.
Elyngael feels pity for Owen. So much that she deems he should be put out of his misery. Her shot misses so it looks like he will have to suffer for a little while longer.
Beordir calls for the group to focus their firepower on the animals. He fires at the auroch but does not do much damage.

Talya's earth elemental brings a slam attack into play and right into the auroch. She casts a stinking cloud spell across the rabbits and an auroch.
Osul has never seen vultures like these beofre. They look like giant vultures but have been disfigured by what he suspects now to be a/the disease. He tries to bat it away with a storm burst but it doesn't look to be stopped. Affected, sure, but not stopped.
There is some debate as to who Owen is (was?) and whether he can still be saved. If so, how?

Owen is proving to be a slippery little sucker. Atlas just can't grip him, but fortunately, Owen can't hit with his bite in return

AU1 charges and gores Khan (Hit AC17 for 13pts. If a hit, Khan must make a Fort Save vs DC15 or be diseased and sickened) AU2 gores the Earth Elemental (Hit AC25. EE takes 14pts) AU3 moves out of the web and continues to get very close to Neshi and Beordir.

Atlas hears the battle going on behind him and he is torn on what to do. He cannot watch his friend die like this, but he also cannot watch all his other friends die either. Yet there they are, taking hit after hit. He decides that he has to do what he can for the others, but to cover the distance he needs it is going to be risky. He doesn't care, he takes off, leaving Owen to be dealt with after.
A a dead run (run feat) he sprints towards the auroch fighting the conjured Earth Elemental, drawing his sword along the way. He manages to find a second wind (hero point) and attacks, but he somehow manages to do no harm to the creature.

Neshi backsteps and unleashes another two scorching rays. The first one hits AU2 and it collapses from its wounds. AU3 still stands though but is hurt.
Beordir misses on his attack and tries to find a way to protect himself. He may be the last line of defence between the auroch and Neshi. (Your last step was to AK58. You can't make it to AK56 with a 5ft step this round so have moved you to AJ58. The auroch has been matching your 5ft steps)

Mack and Squeaver maneuver themselves to attack one of the vultures the next time they get close (Note you can ready a standard action: not a full-attack/flurry)
Atlas moves to the next auroch to attack, provoking an attack as he does so. Fortunately the auroch misses. Atlas does not (Miss AC13)
Osul's lightning bolts finish off the last of the rabbits, and hits both vultures. One looks worse off than the other. The animals lying on the ground look well and truly dead now. Osul does not believe they pose a threat - for now.
The Satyr tries a Suggestion but like the Sleep spell it is truly ineffective.
Neshi continues her back away steps and fires off two scorching rays. She hits the auroch but misses the vulture.
Talya sends a glob of acid at a vulture and manages to singe some feather.
Armand heals those he can and step - like most of the party - backsteps.
Elyngael backsteps and takes a shot with her bow. This time she manages to hit her target.
AU1 steps closer and attacks really really well (Hit AC30. Nat20. Crit confirmed with AC30, another Nat20. Armand takes 24pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC15 or be diseased and sickened))
AU3 decides it has had enough of Neshi and moves in to attack! (Beordir gets to make an AoO. Hit AC26. Neshi takes 6pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC15 or be diseased and sickened))
V1 continues it's aerial assault of Talya by giving chase with a flyby added in - all despite her being invisible! (Miss chance 50%: 77 = Hit. Hit AC21. Talya takes 16pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC15 or be diseased and sickened)). Keep in mind that Talya is invisible so unless she gives away her position others will not notice her.
V2 ignores Squeaver to flyby attack Mack. It gets hit in the process though by both Mack and Squeaver. (Hit AC28. Mack takes 12pts damage and must make a Fort save vs DC15 or be diseased and sickened))
V3 also ignores Squeaver to flyby attack Mack. (Hit AC18=Miss!)

Oof, Talya's really hurting now. She fights off the infection and shouts for help, which might not be the wisest decision.
"Can someone kill this **** bird already?"
She then casts Glitterdust, targeting only the vulture in an attempt to blind it long enough to save her own skin. (DC 18 Will Save), vulture can save again at end of its turn each round.

The satyr follows instructions and moves towards the animals. It isn't quite sure what staying "a distance" means from the crater, so goes with 15ft.
Atlas strikes and bashes and strikes ... but misses!
Squeaver moves to provide some extra firepower against AU1 (Sidenote: You can't move and make a full attack in the same round without burning a hero point) His teeth sink into the auroch.
Mack heads south and boots himself with a guidance spell.
Armand backsteps away (You can't take a 5ft in the same round as a move action. I'm assuming you are trying to avoid an attack so have just gone with the 5ft step away from its 10ft reach. Also, based on Elyngael's post you probably don't want to move too far away)
Beordir succumbs to the disease. It may be psychological or just anger, but he makes a really good attack with his rapier.
Owen-oid follows after Mack! He tries to bite but Mack is just too nimble.
Elyngael steadies her breathing and looks for a weakspot on the auroch. With great focus she manages to plug it twice in the head. The auroch lets out a final groan before dropping to the ground
Talya is really getting hurt by that, that, bird. She casts a glitterdust spell at it, and even though it can still see it is now very sparkly. She slowly and cautiously moves away hoping that it can no longer see her.

The satyr approaches the crater. It is a writhing mass of red grass and weed, curling and twisting along the ground like great big red earthworms.
Osul says a quick prayer as he calls down a flame strike on one of the vultures. Luck just isn't with him as it dodges most of the blast. V3 certainly is proving to have quite good reflexes!
Mack moves around behind the Owen-oid and plans to aid Atlas... somehow. Squeaver moves alongside Mack. (Note: "If you're in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action." Mack and Squeaver would each need to be in a position to hit the same thing as Atlas)
Beordir heads back to get his bow. Throwing his rapier at them just wouldn't feel right.
Armand grabs his crossbow and heads towards the gathering of the party
Neshi fires two scorching rays of fire at V1. It erupts into flame and plummets to the ground.
Elyngael finishes off V3, the last of the vultures. It seems what she lacks in close range combat she more than makes up for it with her considerable ranged attacks!
Talya holds off on her ranged attack with no further birds trying to kill her.
The only thing hostile now is Owen-oid

Things just get more confusing for the group.
Owen has started talking (sort of)
Atlas and Elyngael have a heated discussion. Atlas isn't keen on her shooting arrows at an old acquaintance, but Elyngael isn't prepared to stand by and watch some of her closest friends get infected or die.
It is a little tense.
Some healing is dished out with Armand sending some positive healing all around, Mack treating Owen's shoulder wound, and Neshi tending to her own cuts and scrapes.
Armand takes a moment to ascertain what is going on with Owen. From what he can tell Owen has succumbed to some advanced and potent disease unlike any he has seen before. He isn't even sure if it is something that can be treated. That being said, Owen does look to have improved (and still improving) since the Remove Disease spell was cast.
Armand then takes a look at the rest of the party. Most are simply showing signs of battle but he determines that Squeaver, Neshi and Beordir - despite his protests - all look to have been exposed to a disease. It is hard to say if it is the same strain or even same disease that Owen has at this stage. In addition to feeling sick, all feel a terrible itch or discomfort of their skin along with a dark purple rash around the wound. They feel perfectly fit otherwise. They have all their faculties, they don't feel the need for bedrest and all have enough energy to see out the day. Perhaps it's just chicken-pox?
Osul goes to survival skills 101: take stock of what you have and what you don't have. What does everyone bring to this situation? He even suggests coming up with a plan which seems incredibly optimistic with this party.

Armand concentrates and channels again. Everyone is healed 16 hitpoints.
"Next, let me explain. 1 - I did not have Remove Disease as a prepared spell today, but when Owen appeared, suddenly I knew it and knew how to cast it. I take that as a sign from Lord Gargul that what was affecting him could be cured. Although He should have been instantly cured. Let's tie him up at least until we are sure of things. The other possibility is that whatever is/was affecting him is a curse, which I can't remove right now but I should be able to tomorrow."
He pauses for breath. "2 some of us are showing signs of disease of some sort. I can't identify it. We'll need to keep an eye on them. It took us half a day to get here, so that's a pretty fast onset for disease. I think if they start acting weird or bleeding from their eyes or mouth they get tied up until I can rest and get multiple Cure Disease spells."
He nods at no one in particular. "3 'Osul is right, we need to determine what caused this disease and how to stop it from spreading. If I didn't have that cure disease I'd say we probably would have had to kill Owen, because clearly it is spreading from the infected creatures. That said for now we can hold off on things with party members. Tying people up may become an option soon. But we need to burn these carcasses. And we need to find the cause." He looks toward the crater. "I think that crater or what ever landed in that crater may be the cause, it's the only thing out of the ordinary in the area."

Stepping away from the others Neshi begins to cast and soon there is a 5 ft flaming sphere hugging the ground at the edge of the diseased grass. Neshi begins to move it into the diseased grass bit by bit moving slowly so as to see if it is effectively burning the grass or not. (intent is to make a clear but charred 5ft wide path to the object and then begin burning out the rest of the grass.

After a few minutes of wiping, he looks up again. "Atlas! Armand! How did you get here? I feel kinda woozy...." Owen looks around for others of his friends and nearly tips over. In the process, his eyes land on his robes. "Ew, what's all this?", he says, waving his hand to cast Prestidigitation.

'Osul has a welcoming smile for Owen, but it has to push through the regret at what has already come to pass in this place. Though, an unfortunate wincing smirk does surface when he hits the ground.
"So, do we think we know who is infected? I think its from the vultures, but being unfamiliar with the disease I am erring on the side of it being enhanced by the rock, or the contents of the rock. I cannot say it is deliberate yet - this is all happening too quick to attribute motive to it yet."
"Satyr, was there any sign of the disease in the dead animals beyond the crater?"
While hopefully getting an answer to the question he encourages as many as possible to follow Yurr'Neshi and his floating disc, more confident (again, a gut feeling) that helping Owen to his feet is the right thing to do.
