Pompous inventories his gear. Potions here, arrows there. A good soldier always know what he has and doesn't have on hand. He also reviews his spells... yep, spells... as a ranger, he had a few of those. Not many. But enough to heal a few wounds, avoid some energy damage, grow a few plants, alarm the camp... Those may help...
Akir Al'Kaban - AC 23 - Hp 85/90 (Ken E) Tuesday March 6th, 2018 8:16:28 PM
Akirs eyes widen, like a startled horse. Very suddenly, out of nowhere, there where many people offering him concern for his well being. He was caught off guard, and stammered his reply.
"I uh.. um. Well, I mean, I can still fight. I think anything that can cure magical diseases will help. Sigvar's touch helped earlier, so it's not beyond divine power to heal. I'm just concerned about the time frame from infection to mutation."
He thinks a moment. This was one of the few times Pru had reached out to him. He had tried several times to engage her, and either bad timing or his own stiff style of conversation had left he exchange dead where it began. Perhaps it was their history over Neutronis? He did desire some sort of kinship with her. Nothing romantic at all, just some common ground from one arcanist to another, regardless of their difference in background. Arcane magic was special, as were those who practiced it.
"Well, actually, yes Prudence. I think perhaps some tea and conversation might be nice, if just to calm the nerves, if we have time. Do you know much about tea?"

The Manfri indicated that we are outside the normal Time Stream of the Wold, so when we return, refreshed, healed, spells memorized, it will be as if we had just left. On the other hand, if Time does not move here, maybe the infection in Akir won't get progress either. That should be some encouragement, eh Akir?"
If the Manfri offers the hospitality of his hut to the Agents, they'll accept with much gratitude. However if he doesn't, Nikolai leaves the hut to look for a decent campsite, preferably near clean water.

He shifts, he turns, and there’s the handoff! No, wait, the ball is on the ground! The handoff has been fumbled and the ball is spinning on the ground! (Sorry about the missed post there, there was quite the fumbled DM handoff there!)
Akir asks about resting. The tiny man replies, “As you say, time is as time will be. And few have control over the flow of time and fewer on its effects.” He gestures around the small hut and continues, “There is little I can offer you here and there I places I must be. There is little safety here as the Wold continues to shift and turn. I know not for sure how here will be when the next sun rises. I would humbly suggest that you find the dagger as soon as you are able.”
When Akir asks about the sickness, the man continues, “I have seen the red sickness in the smoke as have you. It overwhelms and takes over all it encounters. I know little else of it or how it works, so I cannot know how it works in time.” As Nikolai asks about it he says, “The only fight I know is what the smoke shows. The dagger and the ritual can cleanse alone. The ritual is to be performed by all of those in the circle in their own realms in their own time. The signal is just to let me know that you have the dagger for your portion of the ritual.”
Trayvin checks over Akir, and Akir for a moment feels a little better, and perhaps with slightly less of a fever. But Trayvin can also tell that this is a powerful disease, stronger than many others he has seen or even heard about. Pru offers Akir some tea. Akir is surprised, but accepts the offer.
Michael offers food to the man, but he refuses. He says, “While time is twisted and twisting, it cannot be wasted here, where time is as time is.” With that, the man gestures and other smoky portal appears next to the campfire in the center of the hut as Anna tries to start preparing some tea. Before she can get the items ready, the plucks a single green feather from his headdress, places it on his open palm, and blows it into the fire. As the feature burns it creates a swirling portal in the smoke. He smiles at the group and gestures towards the portal.

At the urging of Mayhawu, the Agents step into the portal, having to save their tea service for another time. Hopefully it will be soon enough that the potency of Anna's tea herbs hasn't diminished.
The portal exits several feet above a ground covered in swaying grasses, but instead of falling, each step seems to lower them gently to the ground. The grasses would be quite relaxing and beautiful, except for the red that seems to be everywhere among the other multicoloured grasses.

Concerning the Sargrass, Akir did know a few things.
"People here used to use rafts made of special wood to float over the grasses. I don't know if this boat is made of the same things. I need to spend an hour preparing my spells, unfortunately, I need some preparation."

Pompous is quick to point out where they must be, and Michael tells Akir of the time they met a Manfri under much less urgent circumstances. In fact, anyone with an item from him that is made of steelgrass can swear that they hear it humming, vibrating as if with joy at being back home. Or maybe it's buzzing with anger at its home having been corrupted? It's hard to tell.
As best she can tell, Anna can dip a container into her bag and somehow get water to splash into it, at a rate of 1gp per gallon, but she reasons that Trayvin should be able to create all that the could ever need.
Akir sits to ponder what spells are best suited to his new surroundings, and Pru sets about making the tea that they had talked about. The rest is nice, as whatever gave them their powers back didn't make them less fatigued.

Nikolai cautiously approaches the boat, but sees nothing threatening. There are the remains of a cookfire nearby, but it is very old. No one seems to have been here in many weeks. The boat itself is not magical, if indeed it ever was. It is much too run down to be used, or even repaired enough for use without some source of new materials.

It seemed close to dark when the Agents arrived here, but despite taking a good amount of time to rest and search the area, it seems like the sun has hardly moved at all. This is unfortunate for Michael, since there is no more light then is cast by the stars, moon, and their campfire. Luckily, nothing bothers them during their rest. Nikolai is sure that he can feel eyes on him in the night, but his investigations reveal no trace of a silent watcher. Either there was no one there, or the grass is ill suited for leaving trails.

They greatly outnumber him, but only a few of the archers seem at all good at their trade. He focuses his gaze on the one that seems to be in command (Profession soldier 6) and tries to determine if they are evil, or just reacting to a figure rising out of the grass( Paladin Sp ability to detect evil focused on that individual, gives answers as if 3 rounds were spent using the spell, but only on that creature. Consumes a move action). He then takes a second move action to land on the deck of the ship. Sigvar does not attack for a few reasons. First he may have startled them and shooting is actually a valid response to something flying up at you from where he comes from. Second, they have NO information on the lay of the land or the item they are after. If these guys ARE just reacting and could be friends he would love more info in this place. Towards that end he again tries to win them over. " OK, I get it. A Minotaur flying out of the grass at you is kinda upsetting, but I would rather talk to you than kill you... all." Diplomacy 17 That sounded a little smoother, and Sigvar is much more happy with that exchange than the last one. He is concerned to see that his sword has somehow made it's way to his hand while he was moving here. That may have dampened his negotiations a bit. Time will tell. At any rate, he should now be in melee reach of someone on the deck, and that should dampen their enthusiasm about shooting into a crowd. He was a soldier, his armor would just have to do the rest.

"Mayhaps we could see to selling you our little ship here. Make us an offer."

Sigvar looks the men over and inwardly groans. What was a boat like this worth? To him and his companions it was a game changer, moving them form a snails pace to practically flying, all at once, without magic. What would these people value? Gold was the standard at home, but they were a long way from there. Outwardly he holds up his hand, signalling his Fistmates to cease hostilities. He then motions for them to join him at the boat. Yes, it gave up the advantage they had of surprise and strength in ambush, but it was going to take them all to figure out what was fair and more importantly, what they had on them. " Allow me to consult with my team to see what we have to offer. Honestly we are not from around here so I have to ask, what would you value? Gold, gems or something else?"

Appraise: 28 vs DC 20.
"If you succeed by 5 or more, you also determine if the item has magic properties, although this success does not grant knowledge of the magic item's abilities. If your fail the check by less than 5, you determine the price of that item to within 20% of its actual value. If you fail this check by 5 or more, the price is wildly inaccurate, subject to GM discretion. Particularly rare or exotic items might increase the DC of this check by 5 or more."

Thursday March 22nd, 2018 8:05:58 PM @Anna - yea, go ahead and save your hero point. @Akir and Michael - you can assess that this would go for the price of a normal 20 foot sailboat were you back home. However, you don't exactly know the cost of the special materials that it's made from, and whether that would outweigh the vessels age and condition
Whatever motivates these men, it doesn't seem to be altruism. But maybe not gold either. When it becomes apparent that you are all willing to deal, the leader sets to thinking. Whatever questions you ask, it seems Clyde doesn't have any answers for you. Grand Captain? Fleet? Territory? There are no markers here on the grass. And you won't have to worry about other captains. We're the only boat and warriors left in our clan, and once the intruders find us, there won't even be us anymore. If we had all attacked together when they first appeared, we may have been able to stop them, but we didn't take the threat seriously until it was too late.
Driving the grass boat is indeed like a normal boat, skimming over the grass instead of the waves. This boat would never make it on the water though. Akir can see several places where planks are worn and strained. A few mending spells would certainly not go amiss either.
He seems anxious to get moving again after having stopped for so long, as if their rival will be upon them at any time. He offers up some items that look reminiscent of feather tokens, yet made of broad blades of grass instead. He explains that they are used by tossing them in the air, where they will expand to create a sort of single person board and sail that will last for a day's travel before wearing out, allowing you to skim over the tops of the grasses.
Clyde points you in the most likely direction of the marauders, which is coincidentally within a couple points of the way you were traveling already. He then calls all hands to prepare to sail again, pointedly in the opposite direction.

Nikolai and Michael are able to give some pointers that make the process a little less painful for some. Unfortunately, they probably gave the best ones after seeing Sigvar and Trayvin fall a couple of times and saying not to do what they just did.
Soon, they are all just eating up the miles. This mode of travel is about as fast as a horse would travel, even if some of you aren't quite comfortable getting the full speed possible out of them. Still, that allows some of you to go a bit faster and do some scouting about. After a few hours and some tired muscles, Pompous spots a thin trail of smoke off in the distance. Michael thinks about the situation, do they need to close ranks or spread out? full frontal attack or try and ambush? the shape of the battle in this place, with these tools, eludes him for the moment so he cruises on and observes.

Anna asks, "If we are preparing to do battle with people who use flames should I become a shambling mound? Those things are hard to damage with flames. I mean I wouldn't do it now because we are still like a while away but when we get closer I could do that."
DM Warren - Where in the Wold? Friday March 30th, 2018 11:09:43 AM @Sigvar - trails of smoke meaning a plume from a stationary burning object
Ever quick on their feet, or surfboards as the case may be, the Agents begin yelling battle tactics over the rush of wind in their faces. As they approach the source of the smoke, they see what looks like another grass boat, moving in a wide circle around what looks like a clearing in the grass. The smoke is emanating from within this clearing and figures are rushing about within it. It all seems oddly quiet though.
As you draw nearer, you hear what sounds like a barked command, and a group of arrows with fire on their heads streaks from the ship to the clearing, and another plume of smoke joins the others. It looks like several small tents are the source of the smoke.

OOC Thanks. I was trying to figure out if we were seeing what might be a burning town or camp or if it was a mobile barge sized boat that was moving over the grass under steam or other burning power source.
Sigvar Ironhorn (David F) AC 27 (T 12, FF 25) CMD 29 HP 98/114 Character Sheet Friday March 30th, 2018 12:55:38 PM
OOC I looked back over the past few posts for a speed on these surfboards and I can't find one. How fast do they go? Also let me know how many of these things I can do as we close on this scene. The resist energy is long lasting, the weapon traits are a minute per level so also long lasting. Divine Favor is only a minute long so that will need to be cast just before engaging, so as we move to where we start is fine with me. Finally what kind of check do you want to land on the boat?
IC Sigvar watches as they close. Even from a distance it looks like an airship circling a clearing and raining fire into it. Definitely sounds like the marauders they are looking for. Relatively certain that they will be fighting Sigvar starts to prepare as they close on the scene. He protects himself from fire first. Next he calls upon the spirit in his weapon to enhance it with Keen and Flaming attributes. Finally, he adds Divine Favor to the mix once they get close in. He angles his leaf board for the ship, planning to land amidships and take the fight to the seeming pirates.

Pru casts Protection from Arrows on herself.

Trayvin casts resist fire on himself as they close with the marauders. Hopefully the Agents were here in time to help whoever it was that the marauders were attacking.

Anna uses her longstrider SLA, if she was going to turn into shambling mound for fire protection she would need the bonus to her movement speed to get around the field of battle.

Spells in effect: Mage armor
Nikolai figures that anyone that has a well established camp site like this one is a local and anyone circling around and firing fire arrows are interlopers, bandits, marauders, and what-not. So the defense of the village is their objective and capturing the ship a secondary goal.
"We need to get off these things so we can defend the village effectively. None of us are experience in combat on these things. I suggest we make for the village and shore up their defenses. Or we could wait here and ambush them as they circle around, if they do come this way. Quickly give me your preferred option."
In the meantime, he casts Resist Energy (fire) on himself. Resist Energy (Fire) 10 - duration 20min, reduce fire damage by 10pts per attack.
Akir Al'Kaban - AC 23 - Hp 111/90 (Ken E) Monday April 2nd, 2018 9:50:35 AM
Akir pauses a moment. "Lets catch them on their circle."
DM Warren - Where in the Wold? Monday April 2nd, 2018 11:26:34 AM the boards are comparable to a horse - speed of 50 ft To surf and jump up onto the boat would be a 10ft vertical jump (acrobatics DC 40) However, Sigvar can move up alongside and grab the lip to pull himself up as a move. Medium sized people would need a DC12 acrobatics to jump up and grab the lip, small people are DC20
Alternatively, anyone can make 2 DC10 climb checks over subsequent rounds to climb up the side.
We'll start rounds now - those who are buffing have cast your first spells in the "surprise" round. You do notice that the boat is slowing now that all the tents are on fire, and it is coming to a stop on the far side of the circle from you.

Pru edges her board forward a bit. She really doesn't want to start hurling fire about, especially when they're trying to capture and return the other boat. But maybe she can slow them down a bit....
Pru wants to cast Web. Ideally, she'd like to string a web between the ground and the bad guys' boat to try to hold it in place. If that distance is too great, then she casts it on the boat itself, possibly using the mast and the rail as anchor points?
Reflex save DC is 19.

The Agents burn grass (as it were) to get up to the boat, hoping to distract the assailants from their quarry. As you approach, you can see that in addition to being larger, this boat is in much better repair than Clyde's. The owner's look a bit better equipped as well, though less clean. And there is a definite red tinge to their skin.
You only see this for a moment though, as your vision is suddenly obscured by a dense mass of sticky webbing that covers the ship from stem to stern. Several of the men seem to be stuck. A couple of them spend their efforts escaping the web, but the others struggle to no avail.
The ones not stuck attack, aiming for those without cover if they are able!
Akir is struck by three arrows for a total of 16 damage. Two arrows fly at Trayvin, but bounce off of his armor. Two arrows fly at Sigvar, but they get stuck in the webs. The more heavily armored man at the fore of the ship skillfully lashes a long spiked chain through the web and strikes Sigvar right in the forehead, dealing 9 damage.
