Far out man!
the well of worlds.

good rolls guys. you think this might be the domain of Maab. The veil of Twilight. Where she keeps all things lost to the Wold. you do not recognize the elf city..it is perhaps too old to be in any recorded history.

Sitting inside the lodge the party can see a small man setting crosslegged before a small fire. the some from the fire rises up through a hole in the roof, but enough remains to give the air a hazy view. The man is shorter than even a halfling or a gnome with the dark skin, white hair and grey eyes. He is wearing an outfit made from a combination of hide, grass, beads and feathers. His boots are made from beast hide and his leggings are made by an intricate weaving of grass and a lighter beast hide. His vest is also made of some sort of leather that is the same type of hide used in leggings but adorned with various beads made from stone, glass and even steelgrass and pottery. His headdress is large for his small frame is made from woven grass with rows of feathers traversing down his back.

The walls on the inside of this refuge look like smokey mirrors and not at all like the grass shell that covers this place.. in them you see yourselves and others as if ghosts talking to the little man. You recognize a little halfling in the mirror from a visit to the catacombs, he was a member of the the Mailed Fist. You see others. Members of the Dragon Consortium all reflected in the mirrors talking to the little man, but they are not in this room with you.

the little man speaks up. Welcome, I am Mahyawu he holds his hand out as if motioning you to stop as he says his name. His voice is the same voice that asked you to step inside the portal. ...of the Manfri. I have much to show you, much you need to know, if you wish to stop the plague that is taking root in your wold.

With that he throws a handful of leaves in the fire and the smoke billows up to fill the room, but it does not bite the lungs, nor does it cloud your vison, it actuallly expands it. and you see much.

You see the bloodweed growing beneath crystal mountains. building and vibrating until there is an explosion which propels shards of crystal all over the wold.

You see the bloodweed infect the crystal using it's magic to grow and spread. You see it spread unchecked, covering land and hamlets, villages and cities infecting everything it touches until the wold itself is covered. the only life are those infected, everything else is dead. You hear Mahyawu's voice and when that happens the old Manfri prophecy 'All is grass" will be forfilled. .

You then see a vision of a powerful spirit, you know it to be the spirit of the Sargrass plains, talking to Mahyawu. the gist of it is "get help" A circle of symbols appears:

Dragon
Valley
Ship
Person
Soldier
Tree
Crescent
Gem
Bridge

the symbols form a circle with rays radiating toward the middle where they all converge.

Mahwayu points to the Tree symbol. I believe this to be you, The Guardians of Maabs Wonder..

"Thank you, Mahyawu. I believe you are correct. Though, hopefully not about the prophesy. And, thank you for your invitation."

'Osul has heard little of the Manfri, but Mahyawu has his respect. However, he stands in awe of the vision of the Spirit. This is something akin to what he understands The Culverwood is/has, and that bears much reflection.

Atlas nudges Armand with a bloody elbow, "When we're done with this I'll need some healing if you have any left."

Atlas doesn't know what to think really. It seems like the wold needs their help and he's game, but what do they do? He clears his throat, hesitates, then speaks up, "I'm sure it is us, but please forgive my lack of tact as I ask the obvious question, what can we do to help? We want to help, we are equipped to help, and we can try to figure it out on our own, but I'm thinking that you have more insight into that than we do. Any direction or information you can give us would be appreciated."

I listen in to the conversation, but really check Squeaver over to see how he's doing.

He enters the tent and plops down on the floor. "Forgive me Mahyawu is it. My name is Armand," he goes around making introductions. "As I was saying forgive me, we have just emerged into your realm after 2 serious fights and we find ourselves somewhat depleted. This is all very strange. What can you tell us about what is going on, we can but try to help you, after some rest and recovery..."

Having no idea where they are himself, Beordir is relieved that someone has an inking of their location. The nearby lodge is very interesting. It's obviously a building of importance even given it's limited materials Beordir unstrings his bow and stows it in his quiver. Worried about the blood on his armor, he realizes he does not recall the spell he usually uses to clean himself up. So he digs a handkercheif out of his pack and mops off hands, armor and weapon. The blood on his sleeve will have to wait until later.

Only then does he step inside with the others.

He takes in the tableau with interest, keeping quiet in the presence of his elder. With the others in the mirrors, there is clearly a circumstance broader than the merely the Wold occurring. Native to Yrth, he not exceptionally familiar with the Southern Continient, but he has heard of the vast Sargrass Plains, he just never expected to see it even in a vision. Odd that this threat seems to have originated from there.

"We have endured significant trials. The Small Elder here may be able to help us, but action may need to be taken urgently. Our battle may not be over even now."

He pauses a moment, then asks, "What help would you offer that can mitigate this infestation?"

The old man seems pleased that his guest have become comfortable in his abode. he hollers to the back of the room and from a hidden alcove steps one of the more beautiful creatures you have ever laid eyes on white hair, gray eyes and mahogony dark skin, she only stands about 2ft tall but she breathtaking. he talks to her in his language and in a few minutes a stew pot larger than both of them is hanging over the fire it seems he intends you sup with him tonight.

My Daughter, Muwatala, she will cook for us. she is a very good cook. .

There are Talismans, actually, artifacts of the time before the sargrass came to be, they are keys to it. objects that embody the quintessence of the Sargrass. . he waves his hand again and the smoke rises again.

You see the crystal you just jumped through and an object which looks like a large Acorn. the acorn touches the crystal and merges with it, and as it does so the crystal loses its blood red color and the bloodweeds wither and die.

Ah. it seems you are to find the Nut from the oldest grove of Druids trees. Makes sense, you are the tree wardens

the smoke recedes and you are all setting around the fire with a large bowl of delicious smelling stew in front of you. Mahwayu has one too, and his beautiful daugter is nowhere to be seen. The old man bows his head over the meal and mutters a quick prayer in his tounge. He looks up and says Let us eat.

Sitting back and watching, Neshi can't help but feel the good in the room and relaxes a bit. He is still restless at the light rash that surrounds his previous injury and still feels a bit ill and can't help but wonder if this old man might be able to heal the disease. Before they head out to what/where ever they may be headed to next.

Going through his remaining spell slots and abilities Neshi cant help but worry a bit knowing how depleted he and the others must be.

As the old man's daughter begins to cook He can't help the sudden loud growl that comes from his belly as it smell wonderful. Coming back to the present, Neshi summons the nerve to as a question.

"Mahwayu, there are a number of ancient groves in the Wold and many of them are hidden and near impossible to find due to them being hidden by the powers or the gods. Can you tell us the name of the grove we are looking for?"

almost moments after asking the question the food is ready and in front of them and all else is forgotton as Neshi dives in.

The stew is delicious on a level that reminds you of food you had during the best parts of your childhood. It sooths body and soul. you injuries don't seems so bad(full healing) and all your ills seem to fade away(all diseases cured) Heck even 'Osuls weather knee ceases to ache.

The old man smiles at Armands question. It is not that we are short, we are as the Sargrass made us, it's is that your gods made you too tall, but yes all of my people are around this size.(this meeting takes hours so most spells will have lapsed by now.)

To Neshi, he shrugges. It is somewhere in the Sargrass plains. When Maab moved the Sargrass to her domain to save it from devastation, the artifacts were lost, but clues may be found, though I know not where to start. He smiles, it is always so with beings of power, it can never be easy.

To Elyngael. Oh polite one, I fear that you must be on your way shortly. This simple stew is all that I can offer you as succor.

He reaches into a pouch at his side and removes two items. which he lays out for someone in the party to take.
one item is a book This book contains the ritual you must perform to stop the Bloodgrass, once you have the Talisman he opens the book and inside there are a few sticks of incense and small pieces of clear crystal.
The other item is a Steelgrass Flute After you have completed the ritual you must blow this flute it will take you to the next place you must be...no..I do not know where that place mght be, it depends on what happens with others and many other variables will determine the place... .

he leans back and awaits questions from the party.

With that Atlas stands up, "The sooner we get this done the better. Where do you think you'll drop us off at? The closer to where we need to find the artifact the better, if possible. Thank you for your help and your hospitality." Atlas proceeds to give an awkward wave/nod/bow thing that clearly indicates that he's not sure exactly how to depart gracefully from a being he doesn't understand.

Once healed, the warriors in the group are eager to move on. While Beordir can agree with that, the minds of some are more tired and they seek rest. But the group must travel on. He has already tightened up his backpack straps, so he too, is ready to leave.

When Mahwayu brings out the items needed to rid the Culverwood of the Bloodweed, Beordir is curious about the book, but diffident. "That ritual probably should probably be done by Osul, but some of the rest of us might want to learn it in case Osul is incapacitated."

He does have a couple of questions, "If the incense and crystal are lost, can we find others to use in the ritual? Maybe we'll have to...will we need to perform this ritual more than once?"

He is not happy about the flute, "Great, even more dimensional travel. Blah. Why can't there be a way of stepping further across the land, rather than this awful spinning falling thing."

"What can you tell us of the Sargrass plains? It is best that we are well prepared or we will surely fail in our mission. And perhaps we could impose and allow a few of us to stretch out and sleep so we can regain our spells. Otherwise we will surely be unsuccessful."

to Atlas he says: The portal is an extension of the spirit of the Sargrass plains, I don't know exactly where it will take you, but that it will be where the Sargrass plains were taken by Maab and that it will be somewhere that will lead you on your journey. He smiles and shrugs apologetically.

To 'Osul he says: That is a very good question, briefly...Water is scarce in the plains, and thus valuable, remember that to survive. Also walking the sargrass if you are not a Manfri or a Planswalker is almost impossible, find other means of transport if you can. other than that, ah...there is a lifetime of knowing that one must master to live in the sargrass and no way to distill it down for a stranger...I am sorry, the facts crowd my mind and I cannot choose which to tell you, or even if you would understand the wisdom if I did. How would a bird tell you how to fly? or a fish to breathe water?

to Beordir he says: the ritual is not so much about arcane or spiritual power, but more technique...performance if you will. .
the incense and the crystals are vital to the ritual, but they are not unique to the ritual, any claear quartz crystals will do as long as they are clear, and any Sage and Myrrih incense will do as long as it is fresh. but these items are sure to work...I cannot guarantee that replacement items will. so try not to lose the crystals and incense please..

to 'Neshi he says: Yes, the boats that sail upon the sea of grass, this I can confirm is real. it is a good way to travel, though slow if the wind quits blowing...

to Armand he says. There will be weeks and days for you to sleep. This instance grows short, no time to sleep, but no need to rush either. (see 'Osuls question for the rest of the answer).

To Elyngael he says. Ha. A hunter! There is much game in the green sea, ware that you don't become the hunted as well. Water is scarce and valuable. My people live in the Sargrass, you maybe can find a guide among them. He shrugs as if to say "it could happen, but thats all I know".

When Mack brings the flute to his lips the old Manfri becomes quite animated DON'T BLOW IT NOW YOU IDIOT, WHAT IN THE GRASS GLASS DREAM WOULD POSSESS YOU TO BLOW THE MAGIC FLUTE OF FATED TELEPORTATION RIGHT NOW. he rushes over, his headress askew and snatches the flute out of Macks hand and hands it to Elyngael. PRARIES FIRES AND HAILSTONES, GET OUT OF HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO SCREW THINGS UP DO IT AWAY FROM ME PLEASE. .

I wish I could give you more help, I wish I could accompany you, but this quest has the smell of fate around it, and epic deeds such as this require great sacrifice, if all were given then the power of fate would not evolve to fulfill the power it has. in any case, you now know all I know about the quest. and the things you don't know, I cannot teach you. .

as the party steps through the portal they come face to face with a garbage-filled alleyway. The smell of human garbage, the rats and the sound of human bustle are in plain evidence. The Alley is hot and dry. you can feel your lips begin to chap as soon as the sirocco air hits you. the alley exits straight ahead of you. the portal appeared against a wall at the end of the alley.

We're likely to stand out like a sore thumb as soon as we walk out the end of that alley. Let's take a peak and see if we need to go get clothes or something to fit in before we end up in jail for a crime we didn't know what a crime."

Atlas heads to the end of the alley to take a peak, but he doesn't go out.

"I say we just proceed forward. See if we can find an inn or something to rest at, or maybe a campsite. If the locals get excited we can just explain we are the heroes spoken of in legend or foretold of in the sacred texts and tell them to bring us the holy texts so we can look them over."

OOC; It looks like Jacob (Tayla) has become so busy with their new job in New Zeland that they are taking an extended leave of absence from the Game. So Tayla will not be joining you on this quest.

Owen's ariel scouting trip yeilds a lot of info. you are in a town, the town sets on the bank of a river, on the other side of the river is a HUGE grassland, you would guess that the town is North of the Grassland. There is a port on both sides of the river where riverboats and what looks to be grass boats not boats made of grass, but wooden boats sailing on the top of the grass, come up to drop cargo. There is commerce going on. You see the dockmaster's office, the governor's mansion further North. various shops and other buildings, and an open-air bazaar near the Docks. The people are Human with a smattering of Manfri, and a sprinking of other races here.

Mack: portal is gone. funny how those fate portals work.

Atlas: cautions the party to be careful. you peek around the corner and see folk going about their daily lives. you are on a street that sets across from the Bazaar where a lot of trading is going on. you cannot see the signs for the alley of the building you are in.

Armand: the alley floor is made of hard packed clay, in fairly good repair. it's dry, so that could have something to do with the good condition. the walls seem to made of Adobe over brick, could be mud brick, or fired bick, you would need to test for that. A cobbled stone road runs just outside the alley.

‘Osul: ?

Boerdir's sensitive sensibilities are upset by portal travel and rubbish.

Elyngael is peeved that they arrived in a city, but strides forward to find the grasslands.

Yurr'Neshi Think finding lodging and info might be a good idea.

The guard give Mack a strange look. What he said sounded common in language. Was he mocking or attempting communication or perhaps someone whose mother had held his head in a booze barrel?

The guard takes on a serious expression and puts a hand to the hilt of a weapon at his belt. He looks to Mack and then to Elyngael "Doth hands on de female. Pilferer"

Neshi is more direct, stating (proudly?) that the party speak and understand common.

Atlas is feeling a little edgy. Where are Osul and Owen?

Fortunately the two weren't far off and return to the party like nothing has happened.

Beordir is just happy the party have found someone who could provide a modicum of help (DM awards himself a point for using a cool word)

Armand deduces that the common language spoken by the guardsman is some kind of regional dialect. Easy enough to understand-ish. He gives a wink and a smile (and a Comprehend Languages spell) as he tries his hand at a little diplomacy. The guardsman visibly relaxes. "Doth are not from de grasslands? Curiosities." To which Armand hears "You guys aren't from around here, are you? Huh" He still keeps an eye on Mack.

The guardsman looks at the gold and then back to Armand "What does it do?" he asks excitedly. After a few looks and puzzled questions you get to the real point: Bartering is the core of trade here. The more useful thing you have, the more you can probably trade it for.

Mack is keen to see what happens but decides to wait it out.

"Lodging can be found down there" The guardsman points towards the other end of the bazaar "As for travel or a guide, best bet would be to try around the river edge"

"I'm able to heal various injuries with magic, would that be something you think could be bartered for room and board? Thank you for your help."

He turns to the group. "Come on. I think we can see about getting lodging. It doesn't look like they use money here though so we may have to barter skills or services, or entertainment. Mack keep your hands in your pocket."

Armand then makes his way through the bazaar to where the guard told him they could find lodging.

From what you are able to determine and from Armands feedback through the Comprehend languages spell, These folks are speaking a really really old dialect of Common, Consonant pronunciation is different, hard where it should be soft, soft where it should be hard. and noun forms that are strange, using words that mean close to the same thing, but in ways that would not be used commonly in your wold. the language is close enough to common that you can sort of understand it, but not easily. Roll against a DC 15 Knowledge(linguistics) to understand the speech for a day, (Three rolls allowed per day to succeed ). Each success reduces the DC by 3 for the next roll. . Three success means that you have adapted to the speech pattern. and no longer need to roll. alternatively, you can roll DC 15 vs INT if you do not have the req skill. Failed rolls grant a +1 bonus to the next roll.

Owen the brogue of the tongue is odd but rhythmic, and you think you are starting to get a handle on it. (you have 1 success! and a failure add +1 to your next days roll and reduce the difficulty to 12) The dock town is comforting in a way, it's people, doing the things people do, but some of the goods they are trading are wild. the carcasses of beasts the likes of which you have never seen! and bales of grass...from purple grass to bloodstained containers of another grass, to another grass that has a sunflower like head that they seem to be used for food. The Manfri seem to be making a good profit off of a particular grass product they make, indeed, the manfri's guards armor and weapons seem to be made of this grass, it looks hard. though Owen is gawking like a tourist, he cautions everyone to keep it on the down low.

Mack: The smells of the Bazaar, make your Tummy rumble, exotic spices, buttery fresh baked bread and roast meats waft through the air!

Atlas: thinks storytelling of far-off places may be of benefit in raising capital, but he'd better learn the local lingo to make that happen.

Armand: The guard looks at the gold coins curiously, "they certainly glitter in the light nice." distracted by the gold, he mutters. "ay, healings are always in need when the skiffs come back from the sargrass.

窶楼sul: puzzles on the enigma of the nut. and then thinks about food.

Boerdir as you take inventory of your spells, you find that you are filled with mana, all your spell slots are full, as though you had rested an entire night.

Elyngael follows the flow. (A success! you understand the dialect for the day, tomorrows roll will be made at DC 12)

Yurr'Neshi Yis beom Skyhook, the guard says in his odd speech. he looks at you oddly for a moment and mouths "monk" then his face clears with understanding "Ai! Hwou intend to de Druids! He points towards the Dockmasters office, Hwou beom verdict yon.

you all notice that your spell slots and abilities are refilled as though you have rested an entire night. you have no idea why this has happened, perhaps its a blessing from Maab.

I am assuming you are headed towards the Dockmasters office.

Owen is a man of quality and taste He recognizes Genuine Steelgrassョ armor and weapons. Steelgrassョ making 'a blade of grass" something serious for generations.

Mack: you pick up the vernacular pretty easily. it's almost like you have to switch gears inside your head.

Atlas: has a clarity of vision that is to be admired, but he is right, nothing attracts like the exotic, that could be useful....

Armand: it is perhaps 300 yards to the Dockmaster's office. you see merchants hawking wares, Doxies plying their trade, longshoremen carrying loads, beggars, citizens shopping, guards patrolling, folk dressed oddly carrying Odd long stilts. Painters and shipwrights working on ships. Fishmongers. it's weird, the city is well established, old even. but the feel here at the docks is almost Bordertown, or outpost. As you get closer to the Dockmasters, there is a Bard playing before a small crowd while his assistant gathers loot. It looks like the primary trade item there may be some sort of crystal or gem. you see a few folk toss them into the apprentice's hat.

前sul: since it was rolled as an aid other I'm ruling it a success for modifier purposes which makes your 13 a success as well. your roll tomorrow will be a DC 9. you hear the guard say this Highlight to display spoiler: {This be Skyhook. Ah! you meant Druids! You will find them there. }.

Boerdir ?

Elyngael you notice strange chunks of meat, from some really oddly shaped creatures...but until you see the beasts themselves it's just so much offal. the Sunflower grass is neat, you see folk grinding the seeds to make bread, boiling the leaves to make greens, roasting the stalks and boiling the roots. You see this because one of the vendors you just walked by performing all of these operations on one of the plants. the plant must have been 13ft long. at another place it looks like they are fermenting one of the grasses...the ones in the bloodstained baskets to be exact.

Yurr'Neshilike a lactose intolerant cheesemaker, you cannot partake of the bounty your question aroused. Good thing 'Osul can.

At the DockMasters office, its barely controlled Chaos, loads are recorded and tallied, weighed and distributed, workers work or hang around looking for work. Captains pay docking fees and meet with merchants. the local constabulary is on hand to take care of any unpleasantness. A Triage is set up where wounded off the ships can be taken care of. Men in Monks robes seem to be tending the wounded.

"Skyhook! Thank you, kind sir!"
'Osul pauses in his walk. He is unsure what kind of trade the
doxies {clean, I promise} are engaged in, or where their "handlers" might be.
Fortunately the cooked wares offer their own distractions - though, like Elyngael, there is only enough here to make him want to see more of them in their natural environment, and able to make noises other than sizzle, sizzle.
At the office, he is polite and observant, and ensures his WLA tower badge is in good order and view. His mind is present in the conversations, but one eye is firmly fixed on the wall of grasses beyond the river. This is nothing like the grasslands near The Wood or The Tree, and he, for one, is glad Queen Maab has saved it.

Owen helps Atlas out, then tries to get folk organized to get as much ground covered as possible.

Mack: gets some strange looks, but the 4 healers are really too busy pay you much mind. they are mostly using advanced first aid some minor healing magic and goodberry. The injuries range from broken bones and lacerations to one case of a man bleeding from his eyes and thrashing around, they have him tied down.

Atlas: it's a city on a river, across from a grassland. good sized river, maybe 1/2 mile across. there are ships sailing downriver, while there is a mule team pulling a ship upriver. there is a bridge crossing the river and a dock system on both sides of the river, the one on the opposite side can also handle grass boats. the bridge arcs so the boats can pass under it.

Armand: One of the Monks looks at you, Gargul!? I've not heard his name spoken since my studies, from where do you come Stranger?! Ah, never mind that, can you heal the Raving one over there? His mates on the grass skiff ran into some Redgrass and a Mad Rapkey, Rober there got bit and they were 4 days getting back to the city. He's past what we can do for him now. The Constable will come this evening and put him down if we cannot heal him. As was told to Mack, the healing is mainly advanced first aid, with minor healing spells and good berry. looks like druidic magic.

OOC: This dialect of common is like trying to understand someone from another country speaking english, think country Irish, it takes a bit to account for the accent and word choice. to repeat. DC 15 to understand. Add in either INT or Knowledge(linguistics) to your roll. keep track of your successes and failures they modify future rolls. a success means you have made the mental jump and can understand the tongue for the rest of the day, you have to roll again when you wake up in the morning, but the modifiers follow you to the next day. Three successes and you have it. you no longer need to roll. Failures give you a +1 bonus to the next roll, these bonuses are cumulative. example if you have two fails and a success you have a +2 bonus for the next days roll at DC 12 (DC 15 -3 for success = 12. This also means that you will eventually get the hang of the lang, no matter how badly you roll. The modifiers will accumulate to the point that you will auto-succeed.

Owen between Atlas casually cleaning his nails and Elyngael's large feline protector she's got it well in hand. You saw a Manfri set up about 100 yards back the way you came he looked to have SteelGrassョ items for sale.

Mack: was right in the middle of a really nice splint for a broken leg when Armands healing surge made the whole thing moot. The Monks look around stunned. (You already got it for the day, no further rolls are allowed or needed at this point.)

Atlas: you find a place near enough to be useful, yet far enough to be demure, get comfortable and go to sentinel mode.

Armand: You feel the spirit of the disease fighting against your attempts to dispell it, but you feel your God urging your to put forth more of yoursefl to win. (the hero point will suffice to make it in this case )

前sul: The monks, still looking stunned at the healing job Armand just did, stammers a bit before replying uh..um...uh...yeah...uh...it's been happening for about a week now. there's this strange new grass growing on parts of the Sargrass, it's red, and it moves against the wind...weird like...stuff that eats it or gets a cut by it wind up going mad and bleeding all over the place. we can usually stop it if it's a new case, but after about 3 days, he motions to the man tied down we can't do much with those right there

Boerdir when you begin to dance a jig, one of the townies gets up and joins you. followed by another and soon the lions share of the audience is dancing.

Elyngael His smile broadens when you get out your flute and he plays a bridge as you get into the tune, he is good on the guitar. he make you sound better than you are and turn the song into an little jam session. he goes from the sweet sadness of the song into a rising galloping cross between Ai' Shal, let mo lai, and the irish washerwoman. it's heady stuff and you feel your imagination going to the hunt thorough open forests, running fast with quarry on the move. when it ends you find your heart was racing a little and you feel a bit flushed. in reply to your request. he smiles again and you could swear he looks like a 10-year-old who just got a new toy. he stammers a bit at his assistant who tosses him the hat and without even a pause begins to juggle some balls you didn't even notice he had. He introduces himself as Jeroum. and suggests that you both retire to the open-air cafe' across the street.

Yurr'Neshi you get a few stange looks, Wemics musn't be too common around here, but then again, they musn't be completely unknown, or the attention would be much different.

There is a stunned silence in the Triage tent, Armand just healed 12 injured men. He kneels beside the bed of the madman and beseeches Lord Gargul to heal this man, a nimbus of light grows from him, and you can almost see the shape of man within it. but something within the injured man pushies back, a formless red haze. They are locked, in a struggle.

At the Cafe' Jeroum orders for the both of you, A beer made from...you gessed it...grass. It's a stout beer. more of a fortified ale, but it's light and refresing to drink sort of like a pilsner or lager the stoutness comes from the alcohol content not the texture or flavor. His voice is nice too. What sort of news were you looking for...? ma'am?

Owen and 'Osul walk over to the Steelgrassョ...Pavillion? it's not just a couple of Manfri, there are easily a dozen, perhaps two all working here. weaving items, tending large pots of some kind of paste, taking buckets of paste into a tent and taking empty buckets out. there aren't just Manfri here. A few humans in work clothes do most of the heavy lifting under the supervision of a rather stern looking Manfri Matron. before you get too far you hear a voice say " Ay! Down here! looking down you see a Manfri, it's hard to tell age but you would put him at young adult. You chappies looking to buy some armor? well, you've come to the right place! I'm Youlari and this here is Mloowey's SteelGrassョ supply, You're lucky you came by when you did, We only come to town once a year, and we are leaving in few days. Can I interest you in some Steelgrass arrow? Guaranteed to shoot flatter than a regular arrow, extends your range out a bit too. We got Armor, Helmets, Grieves, codpieces, sharp sticks. we made all this stuff and sales have been awful! we got to get rid of it before we leave, we can't be taking all this stuff back with us!

Mack: Owne attempts to collar you, do you let him. it's a chance to meet folk shorter than even you!

Atlas: puts the word in with Owen as he maintains his vigil.

Armand: (if your character goes to sleep, or loses consciousness they have to make a roll. spells that cause amnesia eliminate roll bonus) With a mighty heave of spiritual effort, you open the conduit to your god, even more, letting his power fill you and flow through you to the point you feel like it might consume you! but the power is greater than the power in the wounded man, and the red haze shrinks and withers until it is gone. you black out for a second, and awaken just as one of the druids is catching you. Wow that was incredible! he says in awe. To you question he replies. Yeah, we get a poultice from the Manfri, you put it on a fresh wound and it draws the poison out if it's just a day or so old, you make a strong tea out of it and it stops it. thing is it only stops it, it doesn't cure it so you have to keep taking the tea every day to keep it in check. that's if its a day or so old, after three days, well you go mad, so it's not much good then.

Elyngael & Boerdir The bard look at Elyngael in awe! Wow! a quest from Queen Maab, Well since you aren't asking me for money, I think you might be on the level. let's see...sacred Druid Grove....eh...the only sacred gove I know of is the Forest of Faith, it's south of here, on the inside of a crescent of land the encircles the White Winy island,The forest is in turn surrounded by the Gray tooth Mountains. There's supply grass skiffs, go out to the mountains every month or so, taking supplies to miners there, and there's wood comes back with them, so there must be a pass through the mountains to the forest. There's also a ship the comes from the island about ever 6 months, that's probably the safest route, the grass route you gotta deal with raiders, Baron's men and the Horrors of the plains, Any of the captains what makes the journey could guide you to the either the mountains or the island depending on which route you take, after that I guess you could find a guide to take you to the forest....he thinks a bit. you know the druids at the Triage tent, they all get trained at the Forest, they could probably tell you more about getting there than I could.

Armand pauses and looks around to see what the once wounded are doing.

"I'm afraid we have little information to go on except we are supposed to find a sacred Druid Grove. And unfortunately while we have means of paying for information, the currency we have does not seem to be of any worth here. Could you tell me about these little gems I've seen some using to pay for goods. And anything you may know about the Manfri and druid groves would be of assistance as well."

Turning to Elyngael and Beordir, "It looks like you have things under control here. I'll head over and let Armand know while you finish up your drinks." Atlas flips a couple gold coins on the table as a token of appreciation, then remembers that they don't use gold coin here. Oh well, it will be something unique for him to tell a story about.

Atlas heads over to Armand, but on the way swings over to answer Owen, "I'm more curious about the properties of it. My enchanted chain shirt gives me a nice boost and it allows me to sleep somewhat comfortably. Maybe something there would work better though, even if it isn't enchanted. Hard to know."

Upon reaching Armand, "Armand, we need to reach the Forest of Faith. Supposedly the druids here would have trained there. Any chance you could talk to them about the best way to get there (land vs grass sea) and how we would go about getting a guide?"

To Atlas' question he says "The main benefit might be that the armor is a lot lighter than steel. It might be a little less effective at stopping blows, but you'll be able to move much, much more freely. Plus a set of full plate would weigh less than half as much as your chainmail!"

Owen and 前sul: The little Manfri looks at you both strangely for a second, Sarr's Ghost you two have some really weird accents. I'll bet there's a story about that! Come on inside the hut and take a load off your huge feet with that he leads you into a grass hut that has been built to accommodate human-sized customers. inside the smell of spices and food assail your nostrils he motions for you to make yourself comfortable among the many cushions and pillows piled around. he asks about refreshments and talks of small inconsequential things. The history of his clan, the weather, the price of Chorly, Eventually he has some of the humans that work for him start bringing in pieces of armor and various other weapons and arrows. for you to look at. At the mention of Mayahwu he smiles and says that he had an ancient ancestor named Mayahwu, but that he was taken up by the Sarr to serve him and the other gods long ago. before my grand fathers, grand fathers, grandfathers father. I could recite the lineage for you, but most humas get bored by the 30th generation. in the end the pieces he shows you look to be high quality, while he has a ancestor named Mayahwu, that's about it.

Mack: Now you know what humans fell like. these guys are tiny.

Atlas: seeing that Elyngael is safe, he runs to the Steelgrassョ pavillion, then runs back to the triage tent.

Armand: (good catch! thats your second success, 1 more and you no longer have to roll. ) the Druid still looking awestruck, hands you a pack from his belt. the recipe is a secret the Manfri won't share. and not all of them know how to make it. This pack has about 15 doses in it. you can have it for the good work that you did. . when asked about the druid grove, he nods. Yes! the Forest of Faith, it where the druid conclave is, all druids must make a pilgrimage there to receive training. We came by ship from the White Winy island, but there is a route through the Gray tooth to the forest if you go by Grass skiff. None of us have taken that route though.

Boerdir and Elyngael the bard shrugs. beats me when the boats run. I'd talk to the Dockmaster or some of the Captains or the Druids. those would be your best bet. . brigands haunt the Sargrass, prying on all who travel, and the Barons men, they are just more organized than your standard brigand. plus there is the red plague that's starting. I know little about any of it. I'm just a music man, I don't travel much He looks at the coins Atlas laid down, Wow. you don't see this much, where in the world did you get gold from?

Turning back to the monk? druid? (are they monks or druids I'm confused) Armand continues. "The Forest of Faith you say? Interesting. You wouldn't know of anyone boat going that way soon would you? While we companions and I can't pay, we can work our passage. We are fairly capable. Some of us can do on the spot healing, and of course cast other spells, we have a remarkable archer with us, and strong backs as well. You see where we come from we are called the Wardens, sometimes the Tree Wardens. We are an adventuring group based at a Tree that walked out of the Culver Wood Forest....." Armand will then speak on about the history of the Tree of Parting, the Tree not the group.

Armand thinks to himself. "Say doesn't Mack or 'Osul have that nut from the tree? I wonder, should we offer to plant it here somewhere?"

Owen when you mention "rod of silence" she speaks a few words in her language to her brother, who speaks up to you Let us not be hasty, my friend. I can make you the buckler plus I will throw in a Score of Steelgrass Arrows for that rod of yours

Mack: it seems to you, that these folk are putting on a face they show to the big people that is not their true face, not quite gypsy, but still they seem rather insular, strange in folk that must profit of the public to make a living.

Atlas: the little Manfri replies I have a breastplate just your size! Show me your wares, I am well versed in all forms of trade and I guarantee that we can trade for just about anything.

Armand: The dockmasters office is a fairly busy place, but with only an hour of waiting for service, you eventually talk to a Red Headed secretary. She points out a duty board with incoming and outgoing ships both river and Sargrass, with writing in legible, yet dated common. Sure enough there is a boat that just arrived and is offloading coal and lumber, The secretary confirms that this boat makes regular trips to the gray tooth, and that it should be done offloading in a couple of days and finished loading for the return trip a day or so later.

前sul: water may be scarce in the Sargrass, but here, there is a river running not a stone's throw away.

Owen Youlari looks a bit disappointed at missing the sale, but shrugs and wishes you a good day.

Mack: you play pretty good and get a few crystals and couple of sticky buns for your playing. (is your harmonica a Diatonic or Chromatic harp? think blues for Diatonic and the song "thats what friends are for: for chromatic. ).

Atlas: Youlari's sister comes over at the mention of "enchantment" and looks at the Chainmail, do you mind if I cast a spell to check the power of it's enchantment? she asks, apparently perfunctorily. as she casts almost immediately after she asks. she studies the glamor for a few seconds before nodding to Youlari. He smiles. I would be more than happy to trade my Steelgrassョ breastplate for your magical chainmail. in truth, I believe I am getting more than what is fair from the deal, is there anything else you might want? .

Armand: to get to the skiff you want, you need to cross the bridge then find berth 9 on the Sargrass side, this takes a while, it's well over a mile, probably closer to two, and of course the berths are not clearly marked, so you have to backtrack twice. eventually, you find the berth to the grass skiff "John Eaton Carter" There's a rather nice desk set up beside the gangplank, with a rather somber and very hungover sailor setting behind it, his elbows on the desk and his head in his hands. He does not notice when you come up.

前sul: Youlari looks thoughtful for a moment. you seem as though you are not familiar with barter. from what place do you come where you use another exchange? and what do you exchange besides barter?

Boerdir
The Bard thinks hard for a moment. well, and mind you this is from what I learned as a child, the sargrass is bounded on three sides by mountains so high that no one has found a pass through them. the 4th side is ocean, and no one has found land on the other side of it. Through the middle of the sargrass runs the Gray tooth mountains. which divide North Sargrass from South Sargrass. the mountains fork around the Forest of Faith on the ocean side and make an atoll with White Winy island in the middle of it. as far as distances are concerned. it's hard to quantify distance in the sargrass, a journey to the same place can take a few weeks, or several months depending on how the winds blow and the trouble you have. Ancient stories tell that the stars used to move like clockwork and you could use them to tell distance, but they don't do that anymore.

Armand burns Command to cast Cure Light Wounds on the man. Curing him for 11 hit points (which should heal up the headache of a hangover, the first two rolls were 1's).

"Now as I was saying I need to speak with your captain, please."

I am happy to compensate you for your time and wares" (d20+1=6) Elyngael tries to persuade, but is awkward with the language, so she turns to Owen and looks for any other close party members.

Atlas ponders the question for a moment, "Do you happen to have a composite longbow and arrows, both made out of Steelgrass? There's not much else I don't already own. If my shield wasn't already enchanted I would start fresh with what you have, but there's no way I get my money back on this thing." Atlas shrugs and his shield on his back bounces a bit to emphasize what he is talking about.

Not sure what Youlari will say on the composite longbow and arrows, Atlas begins to look through his pack to see if there's anything in there that is worth less than his shirt, but would cover the Steelgrass breastplate. "Or I have these two hand crossbows I received from some dead drow that I could combine with this potion of moderate healing. I would take the composite longbow and arrows, with the breastplate, for the chain first, but if you do not have them then maybe these other items would cover the breastplate?"

Owen and Elyngael he double takes at Elyngael, then rounds on you, You want maps! sure you and every other son of prairie pig want an accurate map...wait....you just want a map? his face clears of frustration and anger and instead takes on a concerned and contrite expression. Forgive me, with the spread of the red grasses, I've been so busy trying to map it's spread and collate the reports of the captains and keep things updated, I'm afraid my manners are a bit frayed. he opens the door and motions you all inside. he looks around and closes the door, then locks it. it does not help that the captains keep sending men to ask about the new maps, every hour of the day and night. . he moves over to a stack of maps hung over bars of wood set in a frame. From your accent you place yourselves from another place. the Wold, perhaps?...don't ask...I've been having some dreams of late. he reaches for one of the bars and slides a map off of it. he then lays it across a table filled with maps, drawing supplies rulers and drafting supplies. (You now have non meta game access to the map of the sargrass plains at will. http://www.woldiangames.com/Woldipedia/index.php/The_Sargrass_Plains )

Mack: plays the music of his people, Halfling blues. the songs are short but poignant.

Atlas: Youlari takes both of the hand crossbows and the armor for the steelgrassョ composite longbow 10 extra steelgrassョ strings and 2 dozen steelgrassョ arrows and a steelgrassョ breastplate. three Manfri enter the room and begin to measure you, one even brings in a selection of bows and has you pull them to find where your strength is. he speaks to Youlari who then speaks to you. We have a bow to fit you in stock we will have it and the arrows waiting for you when you leave. If you have the time we can fit you for the breastplate which will give you a better fit, or we can give you one from stocks but the fit will not be as good. if you do stay and get fit, we can emboss the chest with your crest or whatever else you may want.

Armand: the young man takes a deep breath in through his nose and out through his mouth. [coor! That's better than a hair o' the dog the bit ya! Captains not here, he's over in the town to stand witness to Marks passing, The city guards will be coming soon to put the poor beggar down, and the Cap't thought it best to be there. He'll be back afore the suns gone down, but he probably won't be much good, He usually gets plastered when he loses a man. 'ell over half the crews gonna be down, Mark was a good man, and kin to most on the boat. e's me first cousin as well. his eyes grow sad and he reaches under the table for a jug.

"I grew up on a farm, Youlari. Most of what we had we traded with other farmers and traders passing through. Most of it was bartered, and a little was sold for coin when the crops were plentiful. In any case, the bartering I saw had people agree what they wanted, and that they were happy to trade this or these for that or those. I have no idea what you want, so I have asked you what you want.
Forgive me, and please continue to deal with my friends, but as much as I am intrigued by the grasses,... I must find out where the rest of our companions are. Thank you again."

With that, 'Osul waves an open palm and walks off towards the healers and then the docks, looking for familiar faces.

Armand turn to Neshi. "The captain's not here, we need to go back to the triage tent."

He turns back to the man on duty. "Can you tell me your captain's name and description? There was a man back at the triage tent that was 3 days infected with the red weed, but I cured him. If that was Mark then he's going to be alright."

Armand waits for the description of the captain then will hurry back to the triage area to see if he can find him.

Slinging his pack up on his shoulders, he then goes wandering looking for his friends and Armand in particular.

Elyngael looks at Owen in pleasant surprise. She is astounded that the crusty cartographer is so cooperative. "What can we give you for the map? We would be needing to take it with us. We are from the Wold - the Tree of Parting. Do you know of it or of an exceedingly huge tree that may have been part of your dreams?"

DM Shane P

Owen and Elyngael The big man waves away money, I can't really tell you what I dreamt of...just that I knew I dreamed it, the map is yours, with the red grass on the move, you are the only one who'll have use of it.

Mack: no mermaids but there are plenty of fish in the river.

Atlas: once the deal is struck, they take you to a tent and have you disrobe, your chest at least. they have you kneel down, they then take tightly woven sheets of this grass and cut them to fit you. while this is happening another Manfri talks to you about your embossing. all the while drawing on a sheet of grass paper. once you are satisfied with the design he asks you what color you want the piece and then takes off. Once they have the fabric cut to fit they coat your chest in a pleasant smelling grease of some sort. they press the fitted sheets into the grease, the sheets, which looked rather stiff seem to form themselves to you like a glove, once this is done, and you are comfortable with the fit, an old man comes in and begins to take handfulls of paste out of a bucket and smear it onto the sheets, he works it into the fibers with practiced and sure hands, and after he gets one layer well pasted they press another layer into the one completed, layering the sheets to thicken the armor, they wait a few minutes before putting the last one on, and sure enough the man who sketched your tree returns with a grass paper mache cameo of your design, they align it to your chest, checking the fit well, and once satisfied the old man pastes it good. they then put the final layers on top of it. working them around the tree details and smoothing the fabric around your muscles until they are satisfied. the old man then applies the paste to that as well. once that is done, everything stops. the old man in broken but strangely understandable common says. " we wait now, for a little while, grass hardens quickly, but must harden enough to not lose fit before we take off and finish. with that most of the team leaves and the old man squats down and pulls out a pipe, he smokes a bowl then comes and taps the end of his pipe against the shell, he grunts, nods his head and then reaches up to pull two tabs that split the clamshell down each side, the armor falls away. he then takes out an awl and begins to install the appliances that will allow you to take the armor on and off. once he's done he shows you how to don and doff the armor and how to loosen it or tighten it should the need arise. in a mirror, the armor looks really good, and it's probably the most comfortable armor you have ever worn, leaving the tent you find your bow, arrows, and strings waiting for you.

Armand: The young sailor almost dops his jug at the mention that you cured "Mark" No lie! He was the only one at the Dockmasters with the red plague, the druids said he was a goner for sure! If you saved him, the cap't will be back shortly with Mark in tow. he left about an hour ago, if you came from the dockmasters, he must have arrived just after you left. if Marks alive, he'll be just a few minutes behind you! .

前sul: youlari shrugs and wishes you a good day.

Boerdir the bard shakes hands with you as you depart. if you can, would you get in touch with me when your adventure is through...this would make a great story and a better song

Yurr'Neshi being a stranger in a strange land is not fun. especially when you don't speak the language. still, the sense of wrongness you feel is not that, this place is fundamentally different than the Wold.

Gathering everyone together, he says: "Alright, we've taken a look at some maps and should be able to guide ourselves to the druid's grove. Atlas looks about for his friends and tries to get caught up on what they learned. "I would love to take the grass boats. We didn't come all this way to look back and regret missing this opportunity. Sure, the Wold is on the line, but raiders are just another test to determine if we are worthy."

"Really? Because I spent a couple of hours in the dockmaster's trying to figure out their charts and such. Perhaps he has decided to go drinking?"

Armand turns to Neshi and explains/translates all that has happened. He then asks, "What do you think we should do, wait here, try to go back to the city and find the captain? For that matter I wonder what the rest of the party is doing." Armand crosses his arms and looks thoughtful.

He then whispers to Neshi, "The crew of this boat seem to be quite taken with drinking. I'm not sure how wise it would be to try to get passage with them."
