Pompous finally makes his saving throw against the poison that had been affecting him for the last few rounds, to the great relief of the rest of the team. He moves up into position and is able to loose an arrow should he choose, or maneuver around a bit more. single moved you on the map
Akir's flight spell takes effect and he lifts off his board to zoom into the melee, delivering a dire warning and opportunity to the fighters on the ship.
Sigvar manages to aim (roll) as badly as the bandits (DM) did, and only his horns connect. For now, there's no room for him to shift on the ship, unless he shrinks himself down somehow.
Trayvin shifts his attention to the village, since the stabby folk seem to have the ship well in hand. When he dumps a load of water on the first tent, the flames immediately die back, and the man that was fighting that blaze gives him a nod of thanks and moves to help another one.
Anna shifts to a dino and readies herself to attack. Sigvar notices that again her feather seem more akin to grass, and her talons resemble the thorns that adorn the vines on the plains here. weird spread of d100s there
Michael continues his work on Akir's target, but neither webs nor flanking give him quite the edge for precise striking. Akir is one space too low!
Having served its purpose putting several of the bandits out of the fight for a time, Pru dismisses her spell.
Nikolai seems even more extra good at hitting these guys than they were at hitting him. The man avoids being stunned just barely, but he doesn't seem to like having his teeth kicked in.
The axemen seem to be considering Akir's words for a moment, but some pointed glares from the chainmen put an end to whatever they were considering. Maybe once a few are actually cut down, your threats may have more weight. But for now, they continue defending their ship.
The chainmen continue attacking Sigvar, hoping for better aim without that darn webbing. One of them even manages it, and slices deep. 15 damage One of the axemen steps in to attack him as well but to no avail.
The three on the bow have a new target that tried to intimidate them into surrender. They decide to see how Akir likes a bunch of axes in his face. His lowered defense from his quick flight in allows one shot through! 10 damage
Two more are now flanking Anna-Dino and attack her but manage a few critical misses and almost fall off the boat.
The last two attack Nikolai with their enhanced ability towards him. Only one hit connects this time. 5 damage

Sigvar is glad that Akir offered them surrender, i would be wrong to kill them all when they could just surrender. With a swift effort, Sigvar heals himself and then is back in the fight. He continues to try and take down the chain man to the aft. If any of his attacks drops this opponent he takes the other attacks on the chain man to the fore of the ship. These two are the only ones flanking him, lending to their ability to actually get through his defenses. Sigvaqr also activates his shied. It roars again and continues to snap at his opponents. Akir is all set to burn down the webs, when Prudence dismisses them. Having gathered a crowd, he casts a spell defensively, channeling foul necromantic magics. He then repositions himself with an aerial maneuver, while scowling down at the enemies who seem ready to die for very little possible gain.
"Then we shall begin the mercenaries harvest. It is your lives or ours, sailors, and I have too much work left unfinished."
Akirs black face, dour and grim, contorts with effort as he slashes his scythe down on his new target. The wound leaves a black streak in the fighter, and immediately exudes a foul and noxious stench.
--------------
Standard Action: Weapon Casting, attacking with scythe and delivering "Ghoul Touch" spell. Hits AC 21 for 23 damage.
Move Action: Move to northeast corner of ship.
Weapon Casting (Su): At third level, the weapon mage gains an arcane symbiosis with specialty weapons. Once per round, you can cast spells while holding your weapon, even those with both somatic and material components. Any time you cast a touch or target-specific spell, you can choose to use your weapon to deliver the spell instead of making a touch attack. For example, in the same round, a weapon mage can cast Shocking Grasp and then deliver it as part of a standard melee attack through his weapon. You can move before casting the spell, after casting the spell but before making the attack, or after making the attack -- just like a touch attack. You can also choose to hold the charge. This ability works with any specialty weapon you wield. ---------------- Ghoul Touch: Fortitude Save DC 20 or target paralyzed for 7 rounds and exudes a stench that makes all within 10ft of the victim sickened. Fortitude DC 20 negates the sickening effect. This is a poison effect, and can be removed with Remove Poison. (Highlighted Ghoul Touch area on map.)

Finally getting into the swing of battle, Sigvar lashes out with all the weapons at his disposal. His initial strike fells his first target, and between his backswing, horns, and shield, the man on his other side looks none to good. If only the shield's second bite had hit, he might have fallen!
Pompous tries to make up for lost time and thunks two arrows solidly into the man on the corner. Pru follows these up with some force arrows of her own.
Akir fits his deeds to his words, channeling foul magics into his target. He is made of stern stuff though, and resists the necrotic effects.
Trayvin continues helping the men in the clearing, dousing the second fire in as many rounds. Between the efforts of all three men on the third fire, it is well in control and the camp and its tree seem safe for the moment.
Nikolai may have forgotten how hard he hits humans, but they certainly felt the extra blow. With his target dead, he shifts his flurry to the next closest target. He thumps him twice, but unfortunately he also is able to resist the stunning effects, so the third attack flies wide.
Michael changes tactics since he can't find a good flanking position in such cramped quarters. The man's size gives just the slightest edge over Michael though, and he is not moved and delivers a chop towards Michael's shoulder for his trouble! It does not quite connect.
Anna delivers her own flurry to the target to her (screen) right. "B6" enemy - correct me if I'm wrong.
While doing lots of damage, it is all fairly well spread amongst their enemies, so only one has fallen, and they don't seem inclined to surrender yet.

Aerial combat suited Akir. With his heavy weapon, he found it much easier to not need to worry about footing, and to allow his scythe to pull him through the directional changes needed to defeat a foes defenses. Slashing in a horizontal arc, Akir aims the point of his scythe at the enemies ribs, letting his momentum to carry him in a rotation that either hits the same fighter again, or the next warrior in line.

Acrobatic Akir's aerial attacks amputate his archenemy's arm and air out his aorta. He then moves to a more favorable position so Michael can finally make the best use of his particular set of skills.
Pru's second volley overwhelms her target and he also drops. Pompous follows up with his arrows, clearing the bow of the ship of enemies, foiling Michael's plans yet again!
Sigvar's mighty blow cleaves his enemy in two, and he delivers a challenge to the remaining foes, who are suddenly finding themselves outnumbered.
Nikolai keeps up his attack, sure that the bandits will be routed before he is felled. is that a challenge? ;-)
Michael has had quite enough, and charges through the middle of the ship, headbutting the foe in front of Anna full in the stomach and knocking him clear off the side! The man is too surprised to get his axe in the way, and he tumbles off into the grass.
Finding her targets suddenly gone, Anna moves down to the next in line and makes him the focus of her dino rage.
For their part, it seems that the two on the back of the ship have had enough. They dive off the back of the ship and quickly disappear into the thick grasses. The one remaining on the ship sees that he has lost his friends and quickly drops his axe and puts his hands in the air. The Agents have officially captured the bandit ship, and without damaging it even!

Not interested in chasing those in the tough grasses, figuring that the natives of this area are well adapted at such navigation, Nikolai pays them enough attention to make sure they don't have second thoughts and return, then hollers over the railing, "Hey, a little more respect to the dead, eh? There's still one alive up here and its his buddies you're talking about pillaging!" His tone wasn't in fashion of admonition though.
"Alright Akir, he surrendered so we don't kill him. However the villagers probably have laws of their own and will want to try him for the damage he and his mates have done and intended to do. If they proclaim the death penalty, then we can buy them out and he'll owe us his life twice over. Maybe they have a code of honor here that we can work with."
Nikolai remembered some men that had come to visit his father from the town in the Uncharted Lands he help found and protect for many years. He said "This man was a bandit that attacked the Ahote and we protected the Ahote and killed most of the bandits. This man was captured and given the death penalty according to Ahote law. He was stoned and left for dead. after a day and he didn't die, the time of judgement passed and we took him, healed him, and he took him back to the town. He swore loyalty to the town for saving his life and look at him now, an honest, hardworking citizen. You never know, son, if a man has Good enough in his heart to reform until you give him the chance."
Nikolai asked, "But what if one doesn't reform?". His fathered answered, "I don't have an answer for that, you'll have to figure that out when the time comes."
Nikolai turns the their prisoner, "You heard me. You are alive because we honor your surrender, but we aren't the victims of your banditry. That village will be in charge of deciding what to do with you. How do you think they will judge you and what sentence do you think they will pass down to you for your actions?"

As he is thinking about that, he thinks of the prisoner, well you can't fault a man for following orders. he didn't bite you are anything did he and which one of those guys was the captain? also can you show me where the loot is hidden?

Michael searches the ship for more loot. If their friends don't come back and claim it, they can certainly make use of it. He finds 2,000 is scattered gold pieces, and a Belt of Giant Strength +2 (that the DM forgot the leader was wearing).
Sigvar, Akir, and Michael avail themselves of some of the gear and stow the rest away while Trayvin tends to their injuries.
In response to their questions, the man in the center pulls a tablet off of his knotted rope belt. It appears to be covered in wax, and has a wooden stylus which he uses to cut shallow marks in the surface.

The men acknowledge Pru and Anna's praise, and invite them to admire the tree. It is still a sapling right now, but it seems to have rooted well and remains healthy. Still, it must need as much water as these men can provide it until it gets well established.
They shrug their shoulders as to why they were attacked. Perhaps it is the sickness, perhaps these men were just angry that anyone tried to carve out a piece of land for themselves without their permission.
Nikolai and Akir survey the ship with their captive, but nothing seems to be in disrepair. Either they care for it well, or it is too new to them for them to have damaged it yet. The captive doesn't worship anyone in particular, if anything just showing a general reverence for nature.
They don't seem to know anything of this dagger. Their daily tasks consist of hauling water to the tree and keeping the boundaries of their small circle clear of grass. They do mention another clearing a ways to the west. They had considered planting there too, but it seemed to be barren, incapable of supporting life. It is the only anomaly in the plains that they know of.

He remembered that the flying craft his dad had used in the Uncharted Lands worked by channeling magic into the ship, so what keeps this ship just off the grass? Is it the wind that makes it move or magic?
Then he sees his friends inspecting the tree and it occurs to him that this is the only tree they've seen since arriving here. 'Wonder where they got that sapling from and what kind of tree it is?' he wonders.
He's glad that they don't have to lug a prisoner around even if said prisoner could help them run the ship. But having him work for the monks is a good idea also. He wonders about their safety and ability to keep the prisoner from escaping, but that was not his place. They had given the prisoner over to the monks and it was their decision.
"First things first. Find out how to get this thing going, then find out how to steer it, then find out how to stop it. Let's get those three things down before we leave. I suggest take a few circles around the camp just to make sure we got the core principles down."

The monks respond to Nikolai only by pointing a direction out with their fingers. It seems those that live here have come to know the lay of the land instinctively. Judging by the current position of the sun, and knowing that it sets behind you, you can reasonably calculate a direction with not much more difficulty than back home.
Pru is correct, and the only landmark is an absence of one. And Sigvar and Anna can see lots of grass from their vantages. For now, they just keep the boat steered towards the scent they started following when they got here.
Akir is feeling more comfortable with something solid between him and the grasses, and Michael seems to have taken to the boat instantaneously. Pompous doesn't like it, but he doesn't feel queasy at all, for which he is thankful.

Without any waves to fight, Michael's natural affinity carries him far. And farther still. This boat ride is long and boring, looking as they are for nothing in a field of one thing.

The Agents discuss what the book could mean, but they eventually figure out they'll just have to wait and see. And their wait won't be too much longer. The Agents surround the sphere and throw divinations at it, or poke it, depending on their strengths. The poke yields no information, other than it's a cool, hard, unyielding, iridescent surface about 5 feet across hovering about 1 foot off the ground.

Trayvin is concerned about what may be released. Nikolai recalls that the book mentioned a trapped guardian, and warns everyone to be ready for what may pop out.
Anna readies herself, and Sigvar investigates the clearing. He sees no tracks or any sign that anyone other than them has been here in ages. Pru feels around invisibly looking for a friend, but where she thinks Anna would have landed is empty.
The bird didn't have time to lift Trayvin enough that he falls far, and it is fairly simple to land on his feet. He does still have to take the initial 29 bite damage though. Also, Liberation doesn't take an action, so you still have a standard available.
Anna finds her way to the bird, but cannot hit it.
Akir and Sigvar and Nikolai remain stunned for the moment. and you're correct, Ken. I misread myself! Michael tucks himself in and hopes the bird doesn't notice him. Pompous remains quiet as well.
The bird, only knowing that he dropped his treat, tries to pick up Trayvin again, determined to sate himself. He can't keep his grip on the slippery cleric though. 26 damage
Getting angry, the bird also throws two claws at the thing fluttering at its back, but only hits once, tripping up on his second. 20 damage

...And just like that, light and sound return. Pru heaves a sigh of relief, and tries to get her bearings.
There's a giant bird fighting a....flying cloak? One of them is probably Anna, but without having seen her transform, it's hard to tell which. Then the giant bird tries to grab Trayvin, so Pru figures that's the enemy.
Some of her friends seem to be dazed or ensorcelled in some way. Sigvar isn't charging headlong into the fight, which is not like him. Akir is also unmoving, and Nikolai is just standing there like a very handsome statue.
But Pru's magic isn't very good at fixing people, so she'll have to rely on others for that. "Trayvin!" she calls "What's wrong with Sigvar and...and everybody?"
Shouting rather defeats the purpose of being invisible, of course, but Pru plans to move. She wants to attack the bird, but she isn't ready to give up her invisibility just yet. Her companions have managed to scatter themselves all over creation, but Pru finds a likely grouping and Hastes them.
Sigvar, Trayvin, and Darkmanna are hasted.
Pru moves around the clearing, with some vague idea of protecting Nikolai. Um, and Akir, too, obviously.

Pompous takes his success and builds on it, sinking another arrow into the bird's scaly butt.
As questionable as Michael's plan was, he soon put it to good effect. Ignoring the burning and crushing, he practically explodes out of the bird's gullet in a fountain of gore. As he tumbles out of the base of the bird's next, he executes a graceful twist in the air and stabs it once more.
Thinking himself clever, Trayvin moves around the bird, provoking it to strike him. Which it does! for 30 damage Then he casts his spell and the world goes silent again.
Pru throws a spell to weaken the bird, but cannot quite penetrate its natural resistance.
Nikolai moves in to attack position. The bird, having already spent its opportunity attack on Trayvin, allows this. Nikolai's hearing disappears again though, which confuses him, since there was no accompanying bang.

Akir Al'Kaban - AC 23 - Hp 95/90 (Ken E) d20+20=24 ; Friday May 4th, 2018 12:59:38 AM
With his Blink spell in place, Akir rushes forward, jabbing his scythe into the birds side. He is open to a counter attack as he rushes in, but unless the birds talons are magical, there's a good chance they'll pass right through him.
He yells in frustration when his scythe bounces off the birds hide.
Actions: Charge, miss.
DM Warren - Did someone say Big Bird? MAP d20=10 ; d8+13=17 ; 3d6+19=22 ; Friday May 4th, 2018 4:57:14 PM
After her first volley, Pru seems to be having no luck overcoming the spell resistance of the JubJub Bird.
Sigvar's shield is a distraction for his Sword, which cuts deeply twice, and his horns just barely find purchase in it's shredded scales.
Pompous continues his proven strategy, taking it down one arrow at a time.
Michael is so concerned about getting in and getting the dagger away that he doesn't quite notice as the combined blows from Sigvar and Pompous send it crashing to the ground and he's almost crushed beneath it! He drinks a potion and grabs the dagger, but halts his run when the bird falls. (maybe)
Travyin runs over to help the gravely wounded Michael.
Knowing that its wounds are quick to heal, Nikolai shifts himself so he maintains flanking after Trayvin moved and lands a solid blow.
Anna flails away with her sword, but still has a hard time getting through its armor. Luckily, a helpless foe is easier to hit and she carves it up further. Akir has a similar experience, but is able to land his blow.
Finally, you think you have hacked up the bird enough to prevent even its miraculous healing from saving it and all is quiet. Then the silence spell ends and you hear your panting breaths from the pitched battle.
Sigvar Ironhorn (David F) AC 27 (T 12, FF 25) CMD 29 HP 108/114 Character Sheet d20+25=42 ; d20+25=31 ; 4d6+26=35 ; Friday May 4th, 2018 6:32:36 PM " OK, so seriously, who is taking it's head off to bring home? No one will believe this story without proof. That was some seriously inspired combat folks. And Michael, what the heck was that stunt?! That was seriously close to you coming out of him as a turd rather than a halfling. That is some high level of commitment. Remind me to never make you angry." Sigvar drops his shield and takes a two handed grip on his blade and remains tensed and ready to strike if the bird shows ANY signs that it is still alive. Readied sword hits AC 42, critical threat confirmed to AC 31 for 35 damage if the bird moves

Michael is a sight. covered in fey bird digestive juices, blood, undigested food and other "stuff" his skin is still red and puffy from the acid and the rocks in the bird's craw make him look like he has been stoned. mentally though, he clicks back into himself and the other Michael recedes. he smiles at Sigvar
Well sir...those feathers were awfully hard to get through, and when he grabbed me, with the way he was hitting us at will, I figured I had about as much chance of wiggling out of his grip as you had of having tea in a gnomes warren, since it was trying to eat us anyway, I figured he just HAD to be easier to hit on the inside, and I figured in his Craw i'd be really close to his heart and lungs. I didn't think it through though...that acid smarts and those stones in it craw were as big as an orcs skull...I think one was an orcs skull...Hey Pru! Can I get a prestigi...persiden...pers...aw heck...a cleaning spell?
I think we need to get some of its plumage as well.
Prudence Gundle [AC 20; HP 74/74] Friday May 4th, 2018 10:11:57 PM
"It only works on clothes," Pru warns, calling up a Prestidigitation spell. "It's good old soap and water for the rest of you."
She helps Michael clean up, but her mind isn't 100% on the task. "Nikolai, are you all right?" she asks.
Trayvin AC 28/13 touch Hp 43/106(BrianZ) d8=3 ; d8=6 ; d8=7 ; d8=3 ; Friday May 4th, 2018 11:13:12 PM
Trayvin shakes his head. "Michael, that will be quite the story to tell the new recruits one day." Trayvin wasn't sure if there was any part of Michael that wasn't injured, so he uses one of his better spells.
Actions: drop divine power and cast cure critical wounds on Michael, healing 29hp
"So, did you get the dagger?"
