With the first plan failing the second takes shape and the Keepers gather around and Emrys blows a flat, off-key, terrible but very low note on the pipes. The world briefly shutters around you and you immediately find yourself standing in a very familiar spot.
Looking around you find yourself roughly three hundred yards from the same deep crater you had been near before. The difference time is the blood grass is rampant and has overtaken both the area and is beginning to surround and cover the crystal.
{ooc: Entire area is difficult terrain}
The crater is roughly 250ft away but far closer is an enormous Purple Worm bursts to the surface and moves to a human male with dark brown hair hanging loosely to his shoulders. Even from a distance you can see his face has an exotic quality to it with almost dragon like features.
The blood grass is thick and you are sure that there could be other things luring in the area.

You see a young human male with dark brown hair hanging loosely to his shoulders. His eyes are bright red, with white irises flecked with orange near the pupil. The skin on his hands and face is a striking blend of humanoid and draconic features, with sweeping horns and tiny scales growing from his skin and bones. He is dressed in a gentleman courtier's outfit, with gold coat, white shirt, red cravat, and black trousers. He is tall and lanky, with a wiry frame and straight posture.
He flicks his hands to his sides. Claws sprout from his fingers and his mouth fills with wicked teeth (Claws/Dragon Bite, free action). "You will learn manners, foul beast! Vahzah nos!" His teeth glow with a golden shimmer (cast quickened true strike, casting a quickened spell doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity). He lashes out against the beast with his claws and teeth.

Arriving back at the sight of the previous battles it is not fully suprising that a Purple Worm is in the area. The presence of the stranger however is.
Tishe’ quickly bolsters the defenses of Brom and Edson by casting Displacement.
Ahead of the group, the stranger, Sir Royston Scalesworth IV, shows he is very capable of defending himself and tears into the worm with two claws and a bite. All three connect and purple blood splashes on the high red grass. Emrys tries to end the fight quickly by turning the beast to stone but the spell cannot take hold on such a robust animal. {Fort: 36}
Barratore comments on the lack of talent with the pipe that had just been displayed as he moves forward and fires a single arrow at the creature. Attempting a full run Edson dashes across the battlefield but the deep grass slows him. {ooc: I moved normal movement feel free to tell me where the HeroPoint gets you and I will move you or you can. Brom calls for the others to wait as he trundles forward though the tall thick red grass. For his part Velarin launches a lighting bolt at the worm that strikes it full in the body and causes the whole creature to smoke a bit.

Inside the jaw of the huge worm Sir Royston continues to struggle landing a hit with claw and teeth to the creature. The attacks are effective and the creature is finished off by Brom before the others need to cast a spell or expend other energies. As the creature falls Sir Royston is deposited, un-ceremoniously back onto the ground or long red grass.
The once lush field is rife with thick blood red grass and infected vegetation that increases in thickness as it moves towards the fallen crystal. The crystal itself, or where it should be, is completely overgrown with the vegetation. Seeing the mess it is clear the instructions for the ritual will not be so easy to accomplish.
Also as the grass gets thicker it clearly gets tougher and sharper you can be fairly sure you will take some sort of damage if/when you move closer to the crystal.
Will the new arrival be friendly? What will you do about the grass? Who is hungry? Be specific please.

He looks at the carcass of the purple worm, takes a deep breath in through his nose, and blows out of his mouth. "Invigorating!" He turns to Brom. "Thank you, chap. And your fellows." He waves to the rest of the party. "Anything that keeps me from being swallowed is a blessing. What brings you out here? Are you investigating this blasted grass and the humming crystals? But where are my manners..." He snaps his fingers and a puff of magic whisks away the blood and viscera from the fight (prestidigitation). The man gives a languid bow like a court attendant. "I am Sir Royston Scalesworth, the fourth of my line. Sword of Ffloy. Baronet Extraordinaire of Fargunia. At your service."

{ooc: Emrys, yes things have happened very quickly. You guess of about 15 minutes since fighting the crystal elemental feels about right. A lot is going on in a short timeframe.}
Royston cleans himself off and makes the appropriate introductions and asks about what has brought the group to this place. Barratore greets him and explains they are putting a stop to the red grass. Brom sympathizes with being down the gullet of one of the worms and contemplates how they will get to the crystal. Tishe’ flies closer and introduces herself, outlines their plan before casting fly on Edson.+
Emrys suggest burning the grass and then flying Brom to position.
Still a good distance from the meteor the team assesses its options. The grass in front of you gets thicker both in amount and size of the plants. Where you stand the grass is two to two and a half feet high, closer in… well be glad your not a halfling. In places it is not so much grass as vines thick enough to almost be the trunks of small trees. The edges glint as though tipped in red steel and the closer you get to the crater the more the grass seems to move, almost writhing where it covers the large crystal. Despite this you can still see that the crystal pulsates with power below the red vegetation.
{ooc: There are many ways you can approach this and I am not going to provide two much guidance other than do what feels right and see what happens. Attacks, spells or really anything you come up with is fair game. If you like you can even make a simple check even. Assessing the next task the group gets into action. Emrys casts a spell protecting Edson from sonic damage with his spectral hand spell. Finally he removes his flying broom as Daemon makes fun of him.
Velarin suggests Brom assist Barratire in clearing the weeds flies higher and then gives himself the ability to see invisible.
Tishe’ takes the moment of quiet to cast Fly on Brom and then waits for the others to take action.
Royston heals himself and then sprouts a pair of golden dragon wings form his back. He then suggests that he can help protect the satyre by creating a wall of fire around it.
Barratore drinks a potion to allow him to fly and he an Brom move towards the crystal. As they move Barratore enacts his enlarge person spell as they fly.
About ten feet from the crystal something clearly goes wrong. All the flying party members quickly fall to the ground and you can feel the magic that had been bolstering you quickly drop out of existence. As they hit the ground the crystal pulses with negative energy and those who just abruptly fell from the sky are buffeted with pain. {Negative Energy Damage: 14 Brom and Barratore} Landing in the grass the pair find that the grass is indeed sharp and resilient as it scrapes and abrades their skin. {Damage: 3 Adamantium for overcoming DR}

Barratore is about to reply to Brom's quip when his flying potion fails. Instead of something clever, he gets out "Buuaaahhh!" The loss of flight, is sudden, but the minotaur proves himself to be a rather agile creature when the need arises. He twists over and lands squarely on his hooves. He quickly begins to help Tishe arrange the incense. He then flings open the book and quickly scans the instructions about where, when and how close the pipe player should be." (Perception: 19, Knowledge [Arcana]: 39.)
DM Ryan - Weeding the Garden| Tactical Maps and Artwork Wednesday May 16th, 2018 11:28:21 AM Velarin, like Emrys notices the anti-magic field. He questions how long the pipes will need to be played as he summons a wall of ice into existence. Its shimmers forth flattening the grass beneath it but it does not appear to kill the grass with cold as it arrives on the material plain. The wall stops abruptly for two reason as it approaches the crystal meteor. First the anitmagic field and secondly the density and height of the grass. {ooc: If not for the field I would still rule that those squares are occupied.} Sir Royston suggests some other barriers that he could summon to guard the crystal if needed.
Emrys determines that the pipes do not need to be played for a long period, certainly, less than a minute in total. That along with the other items should complete the ritual as instructed.
Barratore and Brom mange to maintain their dignity as they both land on their feet among the thick difficult grass. Barratore hacks away with his sword, each strike slicing a path to allow access to the crystal. It will take some work but this will work. Brom also works with his sword to clear the grass. {ooc: Going to need some rolls, you can roll this rounds attack with your next post as well as your next action.}
Tishe’ and Edson are clearly distracted by the pretty colors and do nothing.
As the group continues to work on the ritual those in the back quickly notice a new complication has appeared out of thin air. Near a tree to the north four figures have popped into existence, clearly teleporting in from another location. The larger figures appear to be large moving metal men, as though a giant suit of armor had some to life, they stride forward with large heavy steps. The smaller figures appear to be two elves dressed in long green coats with green pants. Both are flying twenty feet above the ground and both have clearly been affected by the bloodgrass in some way, one of them yells.

Emrys understands everything about the ritual intimately ... but there is an aspect, deep within his subconscious, that doesn't understand it at all ... let's give this aspect a name, 'Stephen'.
Emrys has read the book, outlining the ritual's function and the various components, only once because that's all he needed. Stephen however questions what the incense is used for and why Edson, a nimble fellow, must handle the smoldering herbs. Why not just burn the herbs in a bowl. Why must Edson dance around with it? What is its purpose?
Emrys knows exactly what the small crystal (that came with the book) is used for. However Stephen thought the anchor crystal was the crystal meant to touch the meteor crystal; which creates a discordant resonance field. If that is true, then Stephen wonders what the small crystal is used for?
Emrys resents the fact he couldn't summon the Satyr ... thankfully Velarin can. On this rare occasion, both Emrys and Stephen understand the function of the panpipes.
So Emrys begins to wonder ... is there anything he needs to do for this ritual? All the assignments have been given to others. Both Emrys and Stephen are certain of that ... so what is there left for him to do?
Emrys eyes the golem stuck in his Wall of Thorns, so he summons forth a Creeping Doom to take care of him. Great masses of centipedes come crawling up out of the ground and begin to envelop the golem.

As expected Tishe’s magic missles spin the half-elf in place before he does an almost comical fall, chin first, the ground. She continues on and fires a lightning bolt that slams into Iron Golmes. {Reflex 15 and 8} The energy crackles over the creatures and you see their movements slow. Sir Royston follows this attack up with more magic missiles that slam into the closest golem.
Unphased and unconcerned Barratore continues his assult on the grasses surrounding the crystal and tow of his strikes manage to cut down more of the imbedding grass.
Both Emrys and some other being, Stephen, are unsure as to the nature of the ceremony given the abstract way it seems to be unfolding. The universe at large regrest this abstract nature but acknowledges that sometimes it is the way of things. There is really no way of knowing if placing the incense in a bowl of moving it to more difficult areas {probably with some sort of dex check} will aid Barratore in cutting the grasses so the crystal can be applied. There is also no way of knowing if doing so before the Wold as a whole is ready will have the desired effect.
What is known is that multiple mound of centipedes are further impeding the golem stuck in the wall. The centipedes do cause damage but as suspected the poison is ineffective.
Brom is less cereberal then Emrys and is not looking for every detail of a complicated Wold wide event. Instead he lays into the golem in front of him with his adamantine sword. Sparks fly with each hit denting the golem and clearly preventing him from moving immediately to the crystal.
Still flying Edson continues to rain arrows down on, lets say, the closest Golem.
The golem stuck in the wall attempts to push though but fails to make any headway against both the wall and the centipedes.
The other golem, slowed by the bolt of electricity, swings once at Brom connecting squarely with the barbarian. {Hit: 44 Damage: 26}
Back near Barratore the crystal pulses yet again with negative energy. {Damage: 17 to Barratore}

V surveys the battle unfolding before him, and realizes that the time has come to summon the Satyr. He would like to clear a path in the weeds for Barratore, but Barratore's close proximity to the antimagic field would negate his spell.The ritual must begin, and the Satyr is an integral part of that.
V begins casting limited wish, using it to duplicate a 4th level Summon natures ally spell, to summon a Satyr. V hopes for more than one, in case one falls, but is slightly disappointed that only one appears. V summons the creature to appear at J20, which he feels is the safest location. Near Edson, Tishe, and Emrys, and as far from Golems as possible while being close enough to the others for the ritual to occur.
"You have your satyr, begin the ritual! We will try and hold them off."
V considers also summoning a very large earth elemental, but is unsure what effect the crystal will have on it. The last thing the group needs is for his elemental to join the bad guys.

The wizards lay dead and the golems are either engaged or heading for the crystal. Sir Royston takes to the air, flying closer to Tishe’ and launches more magic missiles that strike the blue golem. Brom continues his assault on the red golem but only one of his swings finds its mark sparking and slicing the iron.
Surveying the battle Velarin realizes that the time has come to summon the Satyre and begin playing the called for music. The creature, looking slightly confused, appears near Tishe’ and Sur Royston. He calls to the others “"You have your satyr, begin the ritual! We will try and hold them off."
Still flying in relative safety Edson lets lose more arrows. The tough exterior of the golem repels all but one of the projectiles that lodges in a joint near the knee. Tishe’ waves off Edson’s concerns asks him to grab the incense. Searching her brain she manages to come up with another spell to hamper the golem in the thorns. A shower of glitter explodes coloring the wall and the golem. {Save: 26} Sadly the creature is not blinded by this spell as was hoped.
After being bathed in negative energy for a second time Barratore grits his teeth and snorts. The pain is not so bad but he dislikes the diminishing effect. Dismissing the idea of resting he continues to lay into the grass blanketing the crystal. Slice after slice rains down and he is making good headway.
From the corner of his eye Barratore sees movement, it appears the grass is going to fight back. Two larger sections of thick vines, as think as Brom’s arms, lash out from each side at Barratore. {Hit: 29, 34| Damage 19 | Miss} One of the vines finds its mark opening a gash in Barratores side.
The golmes continue their assault. The blue golem, slowed but strong, finally manages to push free of the wall of thorns while pushing though the mass centipedes. The red, also slowed, swings with a mighty fist at Brom. {Hit: 41 | Damage: 33} The fist clearly would have connected if not for Tishe's displacement spell.
The red grass around the crystal seems to sway more and more as things clearly build to a climax, for better or for worse. With only one person working on the grass things will clearly take longer but Barratore is a mighty warrior and is making good headway despite being alone in the effort.

The damage caused by Emrys’s swarms seems to have been delayed but now it can be seen that they are causing some pitting in the large creature.
Edson retrieves the incense and moves towards the crystal, landing just before the anti-magic shell would have sent him crashing to the ground. He is in position to give it a try next turn. Near where Edson landed Barratore hacks the attacking vine away with his first swing before landing a few more blows on the grass itself. At this point the grass on the east side of the crystal has growen very thin, not enough to make a clear shot but very close. Sir Royston give a quick bow before planting his fear, taking a deep breath and issuing forth a gout of golden flame at the crystal. The flame roils and a high pitches sound, like a scream, comes form the grass for while it resists fire it cannot resist that much.
As the smoke clears you see that the grass further from the crystal has blackened and that closer is singed and will be easier to damage in the future.
Brom calls for a shout as to when to attack but the crystal has not been cleared quite enough at this point. Brom Highlight to display spoiler: { You should be able to dive at the crystal next turn. Give me an unarmed attack roll with your next post. I will wave any fly check. }
Velarin’s elemental slams its mighty fists into the blue golem and it teeters, almost falling. Moments later five magic missles slam into the construct knocking it from its feet with an earth shaking crash. So heave you can see that the fall even snapped off pieces of the difficult to damage grass.
Tishe’ wisely stays out of the remaining golmes reach and prepares another lighting bolt for when the creature speeds up. The remaining golem shakes its head slowly as its eyes become clear, it has not however speed up. Tishe’ Highlight to display spoiler: { The golem will speed up on its next turn so you can change your action in your next post if you like or just let it ride. }
The satyr, protected by the oversized snake, begins to play the haunting melody it found on the music. As the music begins to syncopate and really beging to flow the grass around the satyr is pressed flat to the ground. As he plays this effect moves closer and closer, almost as though you can see the sound of the song radiating from the player. Again near the satyre the grass begins to glide subtly away from the music that is being played. {ooc: With a +19 I am just giving you a pass on that check for yesterday please roll for the next post though}

DM Ryan - Weeding the Garden| Tactical Maps and Artwork Thursday May 24th, 2018 10:21:43 AM Velarin directs his elemental to follow the golem and, like a good general, erects another barrier in the path of the golem in a form of black tentacles that writh from the ground battering the construct and causing it to stumble.
Receiving a compliment from Barratore Sir Royston pivots and launches more bolts of magical force into the remaining golem. The golem teeters before crashing to the ground with a deafening crash.
Still hacking at the plants Barratore signals for Brom to hold his position for a few more seconds. A virtual artist with his blade both fresh and singed grass begins to fall, the is a glimpse of exposed crystal but only for a moment before one finaly thick vine wraps up to cover the area in a protective grasp. The mighty Barratore can almost see the vine quake as he finishes he follows through on this last blow.
With things going the Keepers way Emrys sends healing energies to Brom bolstering him greatly for his attempt to bring the crystals together. As always this healing has a price and in the Culverwoods a school of fish now floats belly up.
Emrys guides the satyre forward with Daemon as its protector. The grass parts out of the satyre’s way as the music seems to push back against the magic in the grass. Rising and falling it seems the grass close to the musician and spreading is actually becoming a less vibrant red. Further, now that the music has been playing for a moment the party feels buoyed by the song, refreshed as though waking from a good nap.
It is down to the Keepers vs the grass. At this point the fight has clearly tipped in favor of the Keepers.

Like a rocket Brom swoops down and, despite the vibrations and protestations of the object in his hands, slams the small crystal into the meteor. As the crystals touch the music from the pipes transforms into a cacophony of every instrument ever made playing a different and earthshaking note as though calling the primal force of music as a weapon. There is a blinding flash and those closest are flung back 22 feet from the meteor. {no damage} The flash of light strobes several times and between each flash there is just enough time for your eyes to make out impressions of what has happened.
Flash one, you see the red grass near the meteor blown flat back to the ground, not stirring.
Flash two, a wave of energy shoots out from the crystal killing more and more of the red grass in an ever increasingly large circle.
Flash three, the ground shakes as deep red roots contract and wither beneath the Wold.
Flash floor, another wave of energy, maybe from a different crystal being broken, pass though the area. As it passes over you you feel refreshed, rejunivated ever so slightly. {+2HP healing}
Finally as the lights return to normal you see the meteor shattered, three large pieces resting at the edges of the crater and a fine dust over the rest of the area near where it was. Intuition tells you that the three large shards represent the three aspects of the Sargrass.
After the noise of battle, explosion of the crystal and everything else that has gone on the Wold is not quiet except for the quiet song coming from the pan pipes.

Emrys feels the recoil from the first pulse and is blown backwards on his broom. After about two or three awkward tumbles he is able to regain control (Fly skill: 33). Thankfully he is able to safely negotiate the following flashes.
For a very brief moment between the pulses, the thin vale between realities is partially lifted. Unseen by all but Emrys, a translucent, deformed behemoth strikes the meteor with his titan-sized hammer. Emrys recognizes him as, "Monster!"...one of the four aspects of Emrys. He then suddenly notices the other two Emrys' flying next to him. On the right, the flamboyant Emrys the Muse, in his typical exotic fashion, is still playing the pan pipe. On the left, Emrys the Master is simply looking on with grim satisfaction ... his magic quill records the event in a floating tome. The reunion is brief as they vanish as quickly as they materialized.
Emrys snaps himself out of the multi-dimensional distraction and flies back down to Daemon and the satyr. "Well done ... well done indeed!" (in sylvan). Then looking to the viper ... "You too, Daemon!"
With his feet firmly on the ground again, he senses the Great Root is pleased. His mind is filled with sudden flashes of ancient trees, viewed by countless eyes. A wellspring of life, gnawing consumption and deathly decay ... and the blood at the center of it all ... is at balance again.
