Everybody take 3 points of negative energy damage and 1 point bleed damage, Except for Armand who is flying and avoids the grass cuts...for now.

Owen the ritual is a performance, part interpretive dance, part freeform poetry. the rhyme, meter and structure of the work leads you to believe that it would work in any language but you get the idea that it's not the speed with which the ritual is performed it's the quality and the longer you do it, the better.

Mack: playing a banjo and waving incense are mutually exclusive, I'm putting you down for Banjo right now, but you can change later if you wish.

Atlas: pummels the grass but it turns out to be a lot tougher than he expected,

Armand: when you get to within 5 or 6 ft of the crystal you spell fails and you fall to the ground. (con is not to hold the fated item to the crystal, it's to hold a piece of the crystal in your hand. it's magic charged and painful to hold. )

‘Osul: meditates and asks a question of the group.

Boerdir ? post when you can.

Elyngael finds that the grass is very good at tripping her up. but thanks to Kahn, she makes a bit of progress.

Yurr'Neshi raps out some freestyle into the mix!

The grass rails against you, tangling your feet, working its blade up under clothes and armour to chafe, itch and cut. it moves with will and purpose, trying to bind your mouths so you cannot sing, tie your hands so the incense cannot move. You must be doing something right because you have certainly trned it's attention on you.

Continuing on with another poem, Neshi stumbles a bit with this one but continues on despite the bump.

Perform DC18

It is here
that red grass stands reaching
both high,
with outstretched blades
cutting at the sky
as far as the wind allows
then low, lower still
shall die
searching for nutrients
hampered by the blood of the Wold.

A thirst is killing you
burning out all
love and affection
hate your only solace
as darkness yet prevails.
You are but a plant
dying in a pot or
rooted in parched soil
leaves wilting and falling
stems collapsing
fanning my face
with red turning to yellow
then brown
a backwards cycling rainbow.

You are but a plant
and dying now it is very true
It may seem insignificant now
yet our destiny is identical
we are but worm food
nutritional dust and bones.
We become the blood of the Wold.

Mack: starts playing the flute he gets a bonus, but it's counter acted by the fact that he is talking while playing the flute.

Atlas: This grass near the crystal is tough, your sword barely even nicks it. maybe using you sword as a lever to unwrap the grass would work better.

Armand: everyone started out around 60ft from the crystal, some are in close and some have made no move towards it. so you have people out 60ft from you right now.

‘Osul: you feel the magic reach out, but it seems as though whatever controls these plants is much stronger than your magic.

Boerdir gives Elyngael a lesson in Elven keep away.

Elyngael the book stated that you need to wave the incense around the crystal, so it might be prudent to move closer to Armand.

Yurr'Neshi contiues to wax lyrical about the grass.

between the singing, the touch of the seed and the other efforts the grass redoubles it's efforts. the Crystal starts to shake and juke so hard it's hard to keep the seed on it (STR DC 12) and the effort required to keep it on is exhausting (-1 to Con Checks). A high pitched keening begins at the crystal and grows.

The weakness felt by your cuts burns
like the fiery color of your blades
and yet it is fleeting in its duration
as the Wold returns my strength.
Enduring the suffering of so many
lost to your lengthy pestilence
Allows me to now there will be
an end to the suffering you caused.
Your strength in numbers is meaningless
when compared hearts and souls that oppose you
You may feed of the blood of a few
but the Wold’s Blood will eventually feed off of you.
You twist, you turn, you slash and you pierce
And yet you are a thoughtless destroyer
With nothing to live for
and nothing to come after.
All those that oppose the Powers of the Wold
end up seeking death, darkness, and cold
so, that is what is left for you coming
from our might, our hearts and our souls.

OOC ?? I looked it was never stated that a certain passage or text had to be read from the book for the ritual. You said "The ritual states that at least one person needs to sing the words to the ritual, the item of legend must be pressed against the crystal to drive out the worlds blood, the incense must fill the air around the crystal to purify and sanctify the undertaking. The blood grass has a will though, and will seek to thwart your efforts.

The party must place their found object upon/against the crystal - or at least have it touch the crystal in some way. The performance aspect can now commence.
At least 1 PC must make a Performance check for each round of the ritual
Skill Check / Ability checks that others may contribute can include:
STR: A raw Str check to try and keep the grass away from the crystal
DEX: A raw Dex check to wave a stick of incense close to the grass without touching it
CON: A raw Con check to hold a pulsating piece of pure crystal
INT: Int checks to see how to unknot the grass that is tangled up and binding the crystal.
CHA: A Performance check. All sorts of performances (except Comedy) can contribute to performing the ritual.
WIS: Will power and concentration to battle the grass mentally." and then you said "Owen the ritual is a performance, part interpretive dance, part freeform poetry. the rhyme, meter and structure of the work leads you to believe that it would work in any language but you get the idea that it's not the speed with which the ritual is performed it's the quality and the longer you do it, the better. DM RobC - "But before you come in here, drink a big healing potion"
Thursday May 24th, 2018 7:10:25 AM

The party throw caution to the wind and ignore the lion. It increases its pace towards the party. Faster. Faster.

But the party ignore the imminent threat and continue with the performance.

The lion draws closer as it sprints and prepares to pounce. Khan's fur starts to rise as he prepares to swipe the incoming predator.

The performances build until the whine from the crystal is too much. It shatters sending splinters all around. The ritual has been completed but only by the narrowest of margins.

In the same instant that the crystal shatters, the nearby grasses stop moving and become inert. They no longer wriggle or try to entangle you.

The lion also stops in its tracks. The blood vanishes from its fur, and its hair (visibly but slowly) starts growing back in the bare patches right before your eyes. It looks confused as to what is happening and starts to back away very cautiously from the party. It is still quite close but backing away.

Has the disease been stopped? Is the Wold about to return to normal?

At the ruined remains of the meteor three of the largest pieces start to glow as ghostly figures appear over each.

The first figure is green. He is a half elf wearing leather armor and a wreath of pak leaves. "Hail champions! You have destroyed a great evil!" He sounds joyous.

The second figure is white. He is a human dressed in white robes, like a bedouin, and standing on grass-walking stilts. "You have fought bravely to save your homelands. How I hope you will save mine."

The third figure is red. He is clearly a humanoid of a noble race but you can't discern which. He has red skin and dragonfly wings. "Do you realize what you have done!?!" He does not sound happy.

There don't seem to be any immediate threats. Finally a chance to breathe?

The froth from its mouth has disappeared and its eyes are now clear. Osul is quite confident that the lion is going to be ok.

Armand, Owen and Neshi all have no specific way to explain or define what the figures are. The consensus is that they don't seem to actually be here. Best guess is they are some sort of projection. Astral perhaps?

The rest of the party proceed to question the figures.

Neshi sends some quips back at them. Green seems quite happy about it, White smiles, and Red rolls his eyes.

Elyngael asks how they became trapped in the crystal while Armand asks for more details. "We were not trapped. The destruction of the crystal called us now that the scourge has been cleansed" Green answers. Red just groans "Evolution is not a scourge"

Green looks from Red back to the party "Don't listen to him. We should not look to evolve but to return things back to the way they should be. I want to bring back the innocent meadows and woods to the Sargrass that existed long long ago. That is the way it should be."

White shakes his head "No. Things should be left as they are and have been. We should not upset the balance of the people, animals and plants that call it home today. The scourge has been cleansed and the land returned to the way it really should be."

Red is obviously the most animated of the trio "Should be? Should be?!? We cannot live in the past. We must move forward. We should evolve. Imagine a world with no disease. We can make that a reality. This mutation was flawed, but that does not mean the next will be. Allow the Sargrass and its people to rise to their full potential and do not unfairly hold them back"

Clearly each of the figures is looking to convince the party that their way is the right way.

Remember the crazy drow necromancer whose work withered parts of the Culverwood? He wanted to spend our lives for the greater good. Green and Red may well do the same, if the next mutation doesn't work or we are considered extraneous to the innocent meadows and woods. I was almost consumed by the terrible disease their meddling caused!"

He pauses and takes a deep breath, having grown rather agitated. "Let's remember our mission: to protect the Tree and those who live there. We protect, we maintain balance. We can, in our small way, try to bring good things about, but for that we should trust in those wiser than us. If Maab and Mahyawu saw fit to protect the Sargrass and maintain the balance there, we should trust them. I would hold with White."

He turns to the green figure, "If the Sargrassi was once green meadows and forest, what happened to change it?"

He turns to the red figure, "Change as you can see from the Sargrassi's own history is inevitable, but it should never be forced."

He indicates everyone. "That is why you are wrong and right. The Sargrassi should be allowed to return to the Wold, but any change that occur should be in harmony with nature and the gods. You can't force change, and you can't revert to something that has already been replaced without causing more problems. "And for his next trick, would our green friend want to return the cities to fields as well, and return The Tree to The Wood? Really?!"

"And I think our red friend is deliberately dropping the 'r' from his 'evolution'."

"We live now, informed by an experienced past. If we lived a life informed by the future... but we don't."

The discussions continue

Atlas can no longer bite his tongue and declares them all wrong. Red nods along emphatically "Exactly. Better the world you live in. Don't regress. Don't stand still. Keep pushing forwards". White and Green look at each other, not quite sure Red understood Atlas' point.

Armand is also of the opinion that all are right and wrong. He asks a few tough questions but the figures simply smile (while the DM goes to do some reading/research).

Mack likes Green all the way. He tries to hand over the flute however the projection doesn't seem capable of handling anything material.

Owen is clearly with White. Maintain the balance and all that jazz.

Elyngael asks for a few more details, seeking some clarity as to who these figures actually are and what they want "We do not seek for you to work for any of us. We simply ask who would you favor on its return. What future would you wish for the Sargrass?" answers Green

"If you favor my faction, it may come back better than ever, RESTORED to its meadows and forests of ages long ago."

Red interjects "Or favor me and it will EVOLVE into something newer and better!"

White shakes his head at the two "Favor me and PRESERVE it as the arid, grassy beauty that made it unique in the Wold."

Armand and Owen each have thoughts about the day the Sargrass will be returned to the Wold. "It's return is more imminent than you realise" Green speaks for all "Complete the final words of the ritual. Bring the Sargrass back to the Wold. Go now. Mother Fey releases it" Neshi notices the final page of the manfri book is no longer blank. She can see black handwriting with but a few words: "Talki donsit, brega freli"; The Land, My Life

Or are you trying to get us to disagree so a fight will ensue?"

DM RobC - "Hey what does Talki donsit, brega freli mean?"
Tuesday May 29th, 2018 8:10:54 AM

Osul rationalises his decision. He trusts in Maab's will for the Sargrass and seeks only to preserve it in the mean time.

Owen feels the same but finds a way to describe it more succinctly.

Armand shakes his head refusing to buy in or rush a decision. He does want to see the Sargrass returned though.

Elyngael feels much the same as Armand. Things are moving too quickly to make a truly informed and rational decision. There are too many unknowns.

The figures look neither happy nor sad with the decisions of the party.

Things have been going quite well, but then it takes an interesting turn. Armand looks over at the book and utters the magic words aloud: "Talki donsit, brega freli"

The three figures bow in unison.

White waves his hand across the crystal shards. From them two white gems float towards Osul and Owen. They are each a Gem of Brightness.

"Farewell travellers. The Sargrass returns"

The air around the party starts to whip around, quickly gathering up dirt as it picks up speed. It's like being within the eye of a very small twister. You can no longer see the three figures. Cloaks whip, lock of hair fly about, and dust starts to get in your eyes. Small sparks and *pops* of magical energy start appearing all around the swirling mass before finally you feel yourselves propelled upwards like a firework into the air.

Upwards may not be the right words. You can't even really describe it. Your body feels as if it is moving in all directioins at once. Left and right. Forward and back. Up and down. It is a feeling that cannot be described in the pitiful common speech. The best words that come close are not enough.

To your relief, however, the feeling doesn't last long. The feelings of movement subside as the swirling mass starts to die down. It feels exhilirating. The swirling magical sparks have left you feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever the Wold may throw at you.

OOC: Everyone is fully healed of all damage and effects, and receives the effects of a full night's rest. Spellcasters can prepare new spells. Also, any long-term magic effects such as Mage Armor have expired

The crater you had been standing next to is gone. At your feet a mixture of different grasses. The entire landscape has changed. All the familiar landmarks have gone and been replaced by a sea of grass: normal grass ... and bloodweed.

Far to the south you can see gem-like mountains stretching from west to east. It's unlike anything you have seen before, but strangely something you may have read about. The mountain range is obviously the The Crystal Range - a prominent feature of the Southern Continent. This continent has been shutoff from teleportion for many many years. Hardly anyone from the north has been here before.

If all of this is true, then the ground that the party are standing on IS the Sargrass Plains. Did.. did the ritual work?

There may not be much time to enjoy the moment though. All around you can see other clusters of people appear.

They are all pretty far away--the closest are a good quarter-mile off--and you can see that you and the other groups are being placed in a rough circle. To your right is a group of halflings. To your left is an eclectic group: a few minotaurs, humanoids and a dwarf or perhaps gnome.

The nearby grass is thankfully free of Bloodweed. Glancing around, you can see why that is. The Bloodweed is moving, streaking toward the center of the circle, gathering itself into a--what? It's hard to tell. It's gathering and growing rapidly, drawing all the nearby bloodgrass clear of the normal grasses.

The mass forms a huge vaguely humanoid shape of writhing red vines. Huge and still growing. It looks about, then yells out "MY HOME! MY HOME! MY CHILDREN!" in a voice that seems to shake the very plains you stand on.

Know Religion DC20: Highlight to display spoiler: {To have this level of control over the Bloodgrass and seemingly plains would seem to indicate this is a very powerful being}
Know Religion DC25: Highlight to display spoiler: {It is the Sar! The former immortal power of the Sargrass, thought destroyed in the cataclysm of the last age.}

Amidst all of this you each can hear the blended voices of Red, White and Green in your mind: "You must hold. The fate of the Sargrass--of the very Wold--depends upon it. You hold. Whatever happens, YOU MUST HOLD THE CIRCLE!"

OOC: Sorry for the poor DMing posts here that are rushing things along. I was trying to hit a certain timeframe. It will make sense very soon :)

OOC, Since all spell effects are currently off, and we are back to full count on spells, What about the bonus spell we had in the previous scene?

Atlas watches and listens to Armand's comments on this thing, before moving towards the right some. "They said hold the circle, so that's what we are going to do. Don't spread out too much, we need to work together still, but let's make it more difficult for it to slip through the cracks." Atlas moves out about 40 feet towards the halflings off in the distance. His sword and shield are in hand and he's ready to do what he can.
