The grasses sway, twist and turn as the now very grey and very wooly rhinos continue their charge towards the Agents of the Fist. Off to the sides, you can faintly see and hear the sounds of battle all around you. Clearly, this is a battle for the ages!
As the rhinos get closer, Pru launches a massive fireball at the creatures. The ball explodes in the middle of the line, catching two of the creatures, but one moves to the side and avoids the worst of the damage. The other remains shouldering as they continue their charge.
Trayvin continues to prepare as the ground shakes under the hooves of the charging creatures. Sigvar prepares and flies up, out of the reach of the creatures, and slashes one that comes near him (#2), slicing it deeply. It stumbles and looks up as it charges past Sigvar, but remains on its feet as it turns. It stabs upward with its horn, trying to reach Sigvar, but failing.
Michael throws out some caltrips, hoping they will work against the massive beasts. Two of the monsters (#4, #5), including the smoking rhino, charge through them. They both stumble a little, but continue charging directly at Michael.
Anna grabs the spear and enlarges massively in the center of the line. She braces against the charge and stabs another of the creatures (#3) hard with the spear. Pompous decides to try and control the wild grasses of the Sargrass. They appear to respond to his request, and the grasses reach out at three of the charging Rhinos (#2, 3, 4). The spell doesn’t appear as powerful as it should be, the grasses seem to be resisting Pompous. However, one of the rhinos does stumble and trip in the thick, waving grasses (#2).
Akir enlarges and takes a swipe at the rhino nearest him (#1), striking solidly.
Five of the rhinos reach the agents and stab out with their horns. One stabs Akir and drives through him (23 damage, trample: 10). Two charge Anna and one strikes true (24 damage, 5 trample). Another one attempts to trample Michael (17 damage, 6 trample).
Approx layout (Rhinos 10’ space, 10’ between them to start, bunching up as they get closer to Agents), feel free to adjust if this isn’t where you’d expect to end up:
2 1 – – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 Ak S Anna M P Nik Pru
Sigvar, Pompous and Pru are flying, I think. Also, if you get an additional AOO for reach that wasn’t counted here, please add it in and I’ll get that done.
Those targeted for tramples (Akir, Anna, Michael): you can make an AOO, but get a -4 on that attack OR you can attempt to avoid the trample with a reflex save, DC 23 and then you take half damage from the trample. If you take the AOO or fail the save, you take the full trample damage and are prone!
Did I get all the OOC questions? Everything, including daily uses of things was recharged. XP – there were awards of 2400 for boars, 1050 for stirges, 6400 for azruverda, 3200 for raiders, and 6400 for jubjub bird. I hate to rush levelling, but if you want to level before this battle (and you’ve got the xp), you may, sorry for the mixup.
Perception, DC 24: Highlight to display spoiler: {The grasses waving around behind the rhinos look like they are starting to form into shapes like the rhinos did as they were approaching.}
P.S. Sorry this is late. I apparently need to memorize more rules. This post took me over 2.5 hours to write with me looking up so many different things!

Pru steps back a little and lets rip with magic rays, easily striking one of the rhinos. It continues to fight until her final magic missile, which brings the massive beast down. Sigvar, in the middle of the creatures, turns and starts slashing. He chops one of the creatures nearly in two and moves on to another. He starts to strike out at the second, but realizes that Pru brought it down, so he turns to a third, his blows crashing into the solid beast. It quickly falls to his blows and he realizes that he has (almost) killed three huge rhinos in one round!
Pompous fires an array of arrows into another of the beasts (#5), but it appears to enrage the creature and it turns to attack him. However, the beast turns too quickly and misses Pompous by a mile with its horn. Michael somehow actually dives underneath the charging rhino. Before the rhino can turn, Michael has slit through its rear section and neatly cut up a few different choice cuts of meat for a possible bar-b-que later.
Trayvin looks back and prepares for more battle (+2 circumstance bonus for perception rolls below) when Nikolai calls out about the enemies in the grasses beyond. He turns to punch out at one of the rhinos but realizes there is nothing standing there, nor nothing within reach after Sigvar’s destructive adventures. Anna turns into a filthy, fat plant child after being knocked prone. She prepares to move towards one of the rhinos (I’ll rule that since you were prone, you can convert this round, but no move action). Akir takes a shot at the charging rhino as it knocks him to the ground, but he quickly recovers and starts to fly.
Pompous and Michael find themselves on the end of the line where there are not dead rhinos all over the place. The remaining three on the end turn, converge, and attack! Two attack towards Michael, but he easily turns and twists, dodging their massive horns. The final one moves towards Pompous who tries to dodge, but ends up impaling himself on the horn (22 damage).

The Agents converge on the massive beasts, everyone contributing with sword blows, kicks, magical attacks, and stabbing. As Pompous fires his bow, one rhino tries to knock it out of his hands and stabs him in the shoulder (25 damage). However, the arrows strike true and the four rhinos are quickly defeated. Michael is absolutely covered with gore and blood at this point. The Agents now find themselves standing in the middle of a bloody, difficult battlefield as they look up and see the next wave of monsters approaching.
Sigvar and Nikolai point out the approaching creatures. There are six of the flying creatures headed towards you. They are large, scaly, multi-reptile-headed flying beasts. They will arrive this round. They are spread out in three dimensions, wide and tall, and are size huge (20’ wide). As they get closer to you, they slow and the grasses seem to disappear and withdraw from the monsters. As they do, they lower to the ground and continue running in your direction. There are four in the first rank (at 20’ wide and 10’ between them, the rank is about 120 feet wide) and two right behind them in the second rank.

OOC: Flying: Sigvar, Akir
Total damage dealt against rhinos this round: Pompous – 51, Michael – 130, Nikolai – 13, Pru – 62, Anna – 16, Sigvar – 47 for a grand total of 319. Total remaining rhino hit points: 263. Nicely done Agents! I don’t see any way for Pompous to use that bow without drawing an AOO from two rhinos. If I’m missing something, let me know and I’ll take that damage back.
The rhinos are worth 2400 xp each (each PC). You can apply that XP now. If you want to rush a level gain in the middle of the battle, just go for it! Please do take enough time to make sure you’re getting everything you’re supposed to get for a level gain. Anyone gaining a level, be sure to add a hero point, too.
As a note, for flavor, these are not flying hydras. They were sort of created out of the grasses, so they’ve been “shoved” along the grasses towards you very quickly. They are huge and have reach. However, with the massive rhinos on the ground, the terrain where you are standing is going to be considered difficult for movement.

Oh boy! The front four (#1-4) are throwing four breath weapons each. You can now tell which of those is fire and which is cold, though you can’t be sure on the rear two. Through random selection, I think each breath weapon has the potential to hit two agents:
Hydra #1, fire, four attacks means four saves, Reflex, DC 17 or damages of: 12, 12, 13, 15 attack hitting Michael and Pru Hydra #2, cold, four attacks means four saves, Reflex, DC 17 or damages of: 13, 11, 9, 11 attack hitting Michael and Trayvin Hydra #3, fire, four saves, Reflex DC 17 or damages of: 12, 8, 3, 9 attack hitting Trayvin and Pompous Hydra #4, fire, four saves, Reflex DC 17 or damages of: 9, 8, 12, 13 attack hitting Pompous and Nikolai The other two hydras are in the second rank, behind the first four.
I have NOT applied any resistances to damages! Those who have protection please do reduce the damages appropriately. All those saves are save for half, so evasion can apply as well. Keep in mind that any natural one is an automatic failure with saving throws. Extra note for Michael: since he has taken cover in rhino innards, if you take any damage from the attacks, please reduce it by 50% for cover.

Pru points at one of the hydras and suddenly finds herself looking at a plump, delicious pigeon. The pigeon flags its wings and start to fly away, not interested in all the fighting and fire and cold and things going on. It searches for a tasty worm in the grasses.
Michael takes a dive into the hydras, bravely trying to setup a flank. He rolls to attempt to avoid the creatures, but fails! Four heads viciously snap at him as he moves, but he manages to avoid all those attempts. He spots a weak point in the creature and quickly stabs it in a very vulnerable spot. It lets out a roar and falls to the ground!
Sigvar attempts to head to the middle of the hydra line, but finds with the pigeon flying away, there’s not much of a line. He drops down and takes a swat at one of the hydras, as he activates his shield. The hydra heads snap at him, but are thwarted by his shield. Pompous steps back and lets arrows fly! Akir aims at the only identified cold creature and makes quick work of it with his fiery magic. Anna surfaces to attack with her Agent friends only to find a dead body. Trayin also steps forward, but the battlefield is quickly getting emptied of foes.
Nikolai steps up to one of the standing hydras and attacks, striking and injuring it within an inch of its life. The hydra snaps back, the heads twisting and turning. There almost appear to be too many heads, as they get in the way of one another while attacking. However, two do find purchase and draw blood from Nikoali (13 damage).
The two hydras from the rear line reveal themselves as cold-based as they unleash cold breath against the Agents. One fires a number of cones of cold at Sigvar, while the other fires at Michael.
OOC: I don’t like trying to make battle maps (and I’m not very good at it), but I know they can be very useful. One day I shall use something more than Excel… in the meantime, here is one for these things. Well, I guess I didn’t need one, but I made one for tracking people and things during this particular round…
Sigar, with the cold protection, none of the cones can do more than 20 damage, so I’m not rolling anything there. Michael, you do need to roll 7 reflex saves. With your numbers, anything but a 1 passes, and with evasion, that’s still half, so if you roll a one out of seven d20 rolls, take 4 damage. Otherwise, just bask in the coldness.
Hydras (7-headed): AC 17 #1 (fire): 79 damage (2-0-0-2-0-0-0) - dead #2 (cold): 121 damage (3-2-1-0-0-0-0) - dead #3 (fire): 0 damage (0-0-0-1-0-0-0) – what hydra? I see no hydra here. Just a nice, plump, pigeon. #4 (fire): 70 damage (0-2-0-0-0-0-0) – almost dead #5 (cold): 0 damage #6 (cold): 0 damage
Interesting. According to official Pathfinder calculators and what-not, that should have been a “challenging” encounter. It was clearly not, I would have rated that as “minor annoyance.” I guess it’s time to bump up the CR on the next wave…

OOC A Woldian party is around twice the size that those CRs were intended for so when you are adding up a group of lower CR critters we will kinda always outshine them. These hydra will struggle to hit most of us where as we are only going to miss on realy low rolls, 1-3 basically. They deal lower damage that when a hit does get through we shrug off because it is a lone hit. The elementals that led this whole shebang off were the other end of the spectrum. We could not avoid being hit by them, Their damage was devastating to us, and we were struggling to hit them and when we did had to deal with their DR. Balancing is tough.

That hydra is smoking and seaming, the heads twisting and turning in different directions, almost seemingly trying to escape from the body that is burning. Sigvar steps forward and with his reach can easily attack. Two strikes at one hydra drop it, then he turns to the next and chops it to pieces. Still shouldering, the hydra drops as well. The other Agents move and prepare to attack, Michael slipping on a strange patch of ice, but find no moving targets. Everyone stops a moment to catch their breath.
There is a sudden quiet that descends across the battlefield. It is not unfamiliar, but instead to the Agents of the Fist, it is the calm that appears at the end of a battle. It is when the adrenaline starts to recede and disappear. It is when the wounds start to hurt and the amount of blood lost starts to become noticeable. Breathing starts to come back to normal, but you can see that across the battlefield there are many battles still raging. The massive creature, the Sar, in the center of the grasses still waves and rages in the grass. The wind still blows and the grasses still weave. The creature may be growing weaker, but it has not yet been defeated.

IC Sigvar flies back to the group when Prudence mentions renewing her spells . He trusts Pompous's eyes over his remaining one and waits for this catlike creature to pounce. A single threat will likely be much more powerful. This God knew what it was doing. Soften them up with fodder in numbers then bring out the big threat. Skalds will write about this day. Sigvar stands a little straighter with his friends nearby again.

The Agents do not relax, but instead remain wary. Pompous describes a very large cat as the Agents gather together for another haste spell. No one else can see the cat, but no one has any reason to doubt Pompous. Sigvar prepares for an attack as the silence continues. The grasses wave and the wind blows. The sounds of battle rage from far away, echoing across the plains. The monster in the middle yells again in a different direction and its words are carried away in the winds.
Michael turns to climb a carcass for a view when suddenly the grasses erupt. An absolutely massive creature appears, almost completely silent, from out of the grasses and sprints towards Michael’s back! In an instant, the gargantuan creature’s huge maw grabs Michael before he can climb up the carcass. The creature turns and faces the rest of the group, towering over the bodies, Michael gripped in its jaws, almost taking up a defensive position, daring the Agents to try and take its prize from it!
OOC: The giant cat (and it really is officially gargantuan in size) attacked Michael and did 22 damage. It has also grappled Michael and Michael has the grappled condition in the mouth of the monster. No AOO, as it was waiting for someone to step slightly away, which Michael did when heading up the BBQ hydra. I would also assume as trained and skill fighters, all Agents would be able to tell this is going to have reach in case you decide to run up to it.
Now that you can see it, you can attempt these: Knowledge, Arcana, DC 28: Highlight to display spoiler: {This is a fabled bandersnatch, a very rare and very, very dangerous solitary hunter. } Knowledge, Arcana, DC 30: Highlight to display spoiler: {This creature has legendary abilities in both offense and defense. P.S. Please hold nothing back. This is seriously meant to challenge this group and I’m trying to find limits for this group. This actually should be a challenge the Agents can win, but it should also be very difficult! At the same time, be careful, this is really a deadly foe.

Michael was climbing when suddenly there was a crushing stabbing pain and the world went wonky. Slobber, teeth, a raspy tongue. As is often the case the machine kicks in and he calmly assesses the situation. Yep! Something has me in its mouth again, big sucker too...not a bird so swallowing is probably out, cats like to chew their food. From the clamping force I doubt I’ll be able to force his way out. Maybe I can dissuade him of the notion that he needs to hold onto me. Michael sheaths his Rapier and with his free hand reaches into his right pocket for an acid flask. He then attempts to shatter the flask against the back teeth of the beast. if it likes reeealllly sour stuff I’m in trouble, but it should spit me out. .

Sigvar knows it is a magical beast, but can recall nothing that will help him kill it ( my max knowledge arcana roll is a 21 so I am not even rolling) It is dexterous, and good at hiding, so probably tough to hit. It is also big, so it will be able to hit him before he can hit it. The way it so casually scooped up an experienced Agent means that his armor likely will do nothing to help him survive this. Akir studies the Bandersnatch as it engages his allies. It moved with amazing reflex, speed, and power, but it's actions seemed to be out of instinct alone. Animal Instinct, while powerful, had its limits. As long as it had Michael in it's mouth, it had the grappled condition, and creatueres with the grappled condition cannot make attacks of opportunity.
He casts Blink using a hero point, avoidance would be the best defense against this creature, and charges in to the melee from above. It's flanked, and he's attacking from above.
Charge Attack misses on AC 23. Hero Point to Reroll hits AC 38 for 16 damage.

Pru fires a ray at the creature, but she mis-judges its size and hits a dead hydra. The dead body flickers in blackness, but nothing else happens. Anna burrows underground towards the creature, but not before spotting a strange-looking dragon-thing far off in the distance. It almost looks as if it is burbling as it flies around in crooked circles.
Michael decides to throw some acid into the mouth of the huge cat. The flask explodes and while it seems to be quite small in such a giant mouth, it appears to have the desired effect and the beast spits Michael onto the ground. At the same time Sigvar decides to charge the creature. He is distracted by Michael being spit out, so he has to pull up his carefully aimed sword so as to not hit Michael! When he gets close, the cat, slaps out with a claw, slicing into him with a claw the size of a greatsword.
Pompous moves and prepares to unleash on the gargantuan creature. Trayvin moves around to attempt to flank the monster. As he approaches, one of the rear legs of the cat slash out at him, cutting him open. When he gets close and takes a shot with his Morningstar, he realizes that there are so many quills on the monster, he simply cannot avoid them when swinging at the beast. His blow strikes true, but he cuts himself on the huge quills of the beast when attacking.
Nikolai carefully and quickly moves around, trying to avoid the dangerous claws of the creature. He moves forward to flank the creature, having successfully avoided the claws, but then feels a massive blow to his back at the creature slaps him with its tail. He moves up and attempts to strike the creature, but doesn’t make contact with it.
Akir moves and dive-bombs the great cat. The cat casually swipes at him on his way down, but Akir manages to make solid contact with the back of the beast. However, as the cat moved during his dive, Akir finds himself struck by one of the quills on its back when he attacked.
Then the massive cat moves. The head looks down at Michael, then a giant paw stomps on him, pinning him to the ground. The huge head sways and looks down at Michael, staring into his eyes.
OOC: Pretty much flanking all around here. Anna can approach underground and appear wherever desired here. Michael is grappled again (not pinned, at least not yet, that’s just flavor text). Michael, Fort save, DC 29 or gain the confused condition (from a gaze attack).
Note on the AOOs, and thank you Akir, for pointing that out. I had to look up a few things. Because of the size of the creature, it makes sense (at least to me) that the creature would use the second option for grappling, in which the creature can “simply use the part of its body it used in the grab to hold the opponent.” In that case, it does not gain the grappled condition. That makes sense to me because a 40-foot long, six-legged creature with a tiny Halfling in its mouth should certainly still be able to use its claws. That said, after the cat’s turn, it is now grappling with Michael in a different way, so he shouldn’t be able to AOO this turn…
Sigvar is hit with an AOO for 23 damage. Fort save, DC 29 or gain the confused condition.
Trayvin is hit with an AOO for 19 damage. Fort save, DC 29 or gain the confused condition. An additional damage of 5 comes from the quill defense. From this one, Trayvin needs to make a DC 28 Reflex save or a giant quill lodges in his shoulder, resulting in the sickened condition (-2 to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks). The condition remains until the quill is removed. To remove it requires a full round action with a heal check, DC 20.
Nikolai is hit with an AOO for 18 damage. Fort save, DC 29 or gain the confused condition.
Akir is hit with an AOO for 19 damage. Fort save, DC 29 or gain the confused condition. An additional damage of 7 comes from the quill defense. From this one, Akir needs to make a DC 28 Reflex save or a giant quill lodges in his shoulder, resulting in the sickened condition (-2 to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks). That is, you can use a Hero Point to make a reroll OR you can use a Hero Point to add +4 to your roll AFTER the roll or a +8 to a roll if BEFOR the roll. Pathfinder rules.
So, Sigvar could use the Hero pt to add +4 to his 25 roll and make it 29 and thus make the Fort save.

OOC Sigvar used a hero point before the roll to get that 25, so no, he can't add another +4 to it after the roll. I then used a second point to make a second save, which did not benefit from the +8 and failed that. Really nothing helps when you rolls 2s and 3s for the save.
Also to note, the Cat does NOT lose AC while pinning you Michael. The DM ruled that the cat is so large that it does not gain the grappled condition while grappling. This is backed up by the rules for Grab.
Grab If a creature with this special attack hits with the indicated attack (usually a claw or bite attack), it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. Unless otherwise noted, grab can only be used against targets of a size equal to or smaller than the creature with this ability. If the creature can use grab on creatures of other sizes, it is noted in the creature’s Special Attacks line. The creature has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use the part of its body it used in the grab to hold the opponent. If it chooses to do the latter, it takes a –20 penalty on its CMB check to make and maintain the grapple, but does not gain the grappled condition itself. A successful hold does not deal any extra damage unless the creature also has the constrict special attack. If the creature does not constrict, each successful grapple check it makes during successive rounds automatically deals the damage indicated for the attack that established the hold. Otherwise, it deals constriction damage as well (the amount is given in the creature’s descriptive text). Creatures with the grab special attack receive a +4 bonus on combat maneuver checks made to start and maintain a grapple.
Most large animals have this ability so that they are not crippled while attacking the way that most makes sense for a creature that can't hold a weapon.
Now back to that confused thing....

Pru’s black ray hits the cat in the face. It turns and glares at her as a brief flash of black spreads over its entire body, quills and all. Sigvar looks around and says something about bananas while just standing there next to the massive creature. Anna appears from the ground and slams into the side of the beast. She is unable to avoid impaling herself on a quill when she attacks. Pompous takes careful aim but is distracted from a floating grey square in space that he thought he saw that caused his aim to be off just a little bit.
Michael stares into the eyes of the magical beast for a moment, but shakes off the powerful gaze, at least temporarily. He wiggles and attacks with his sword, drawing blood from the creature’s paw that holds him down. As he moves, one of the quills on the giant paw sticks him. Trayvin yells out for everyone to focus and Sigvar snaps out of his trance and Michael finds he is able to escape the grasp of the creature! Sigvar slashes at the monster and strikes true, drawing a bit more blood.
Nikolai carefully steps back and tries to avoid the creature. He almost gets free, but is suddenly helped on his way away with a playful pat on the back…with huge claws. He scrambles to not lose his balance and pulls out a bow. Akir talks about magic horses, but just as quickly, his mind clears.
Michael, attacking the creature in its paws, has the attention of the beast. It slices and chops into Michael with claws and its teeth. It rips into his body and tries to pick it up with its mouth, but finds that Michael is simply too bloody to get a grip on. Meanwhile, the barbed tail lazily swings around and slams into Sigvar.
OOC: Yes, the effects from attacks and quills is poison. I guess it just sort of oozes out of the quills on the nasty thing. For Anna’s attacks, I think it’s fair to say it was a 5 foot step from underground to her location, so a full attack should be fine. At the moment Nikolai and Akir should threaten, allowing flanking, so one hit (it saved vs confusion).
Anna: Damage: 1 hit point comes from the quill defense. From this one, Anna needs to make a DC 28 Reflex save or a giant quill lodges in her shoulder, resulting in the sickened condition (-2 to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks). The condition remains until the quill is removed. To remove it requires a full round action with a heal check, DC 20.
Michael: Damage: 5 hit point comes from the quill defense. From this one, Michael needs to make a DC 28 Reflex save or a giant quill lodges in his arm, resulting in the sickened condition (-2 to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks). The condition remains until the quill is removed. To remove it requires a full round action with a heal check, DC 20. Monster attack does 64 damage! It attempted to grapple, but failed due to freedom.
Nikolai: hit with AOO for 20 damage (because Trayvin had removed the grappled condition). Already confused, but suppressed.
Sigvar: hit with tail slap, 24 damage, already confused, suppressed, so no additional save.
Note on Freedom’s Call (nice move, BTW): This only suppresses the effects – when the duration wears off (fortunately 7 more rounds), those who failed saves will still have the confused condition. Perhaps the battle will be over by that time, but we shall see!
Questions: How does Michael get massive additional damage for flanking? I’ve never even heard of a feat that gives you bonus to damage for flanking. I’m also not seeing how he gets all those attacks. It looks like that was six attacks. I would think in a normal round he would get five (two for rogue 11, one additional for the second weapon, one more for improved TWF, then one more for haste). But with the grappled condition, as you point out, you get one hand. That should be just two attacks, with an additional attack for haste. Even just counting the short sword, that looks like four attacks.
Sigvar: Confused (Suppressed) Michael: Confused (Suppressed) Nikolai: Confused (Suppressed) Akir: Confused (Suppressed); Sickened from quill (-2 to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks).

OOC How did Pompous miss? Pinpoint targeting removes all armor and shield bonuses from the target, including natural armor. so -20 natural AC making the cat a 13 AC, basically touch AC. He hit AC 27.
You are correct on Michael's number of attacks. I have been trying to explain this in email for weeks. His extra damage is from Sneak attack, which he gets when flanking. I am not sure if you can flank while pinned because I don't think you count as threatening.
IC Trayvin activates his freedom ability (Oh glorious freedom ability) and Sigvar's mind snaps back into focus. He quickly touches himself to heal some of his wounds ( heals 25 damage, swift action) He sees the cat pinning Michael, somehow the halfling managed to get out of it;s mouth and under a paw. None of this matters to Sigvar. His Fist Mate is in trouble and this cat can NOT be allowed to get out of this circle so the Minotaur starts swinging. He draws blood, and keeps drawing blood. Pru continues her method of attacking, trying to wear down the monster. Another black ray strikes true. Pompous also takes careful aim once again and strikes true in one of the shoulder joints of the many-legged cat-monster. The arrow explodes with fire and electricity. Sigvar, seeing Michael bleeding all over the place, unloads on the monster, striking again and again. He cannot avoid the incredibly huge quills covering the beast.
Michael, still being stepped on by one of the legs of the creature, cries out, but his body suddenly lies still, covered in blood – his own and the cat’s. Trayvin quickly moves up to heal Michael. He has to touch Michael for the spell to work, and though he tries to avoid it, another of the beast’s massive claws slashes him, nearly taking his arm off!
Nikolai shoots a couple of arrows, but anyone watching might ask him what he was shooting at because those arrows barely went in the direction of the monster. Anna points at the monster, trying to help Nikolai see what he’s supposed to be shooting at.
The massive creature opens its mouth and a terrifying sound comes out that sounds like a cross between a scream and a roar! This beast is not happy with what’s happening around it, and it is clearly losing lots of blood at this point. It moves with grace as it back up a bit. It takes a bite of Nikolai and tries to carry him off, but for some reason, it is unable to get a grip on Nikolai despite the massive teeth tearing into him. Then it turns and bounds away into the grasses, leaving a trail of blood.
OOC: Sigvar: Damage: 6 hit points comes from the quill defense. From this one, Sigvar needs to make a DC 28 Reflex save or a giant quill lodges in his arm, resulting in the sickened condition (-2 to attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks). The condition remains until the quill is removed. To remove it requires a full round action with a heal check, DC 20.
Trayvin: Indeed, that spell is a touch range, so you get a friendly swat from the kitty. It hits for 36 damage. Fort save DC 29 or obtain the confused condition, though it will be suppressed as long as the freedom’s call is still happening. The heal of Michael is successful.
Other notes: the creature is using a withdraw action. It still gets an attack because it can do that as a swift action. Normally the withdraw would allow no AOOs, but because of its size and that the Agents have it surrounded, either Anna or Nikolai, standing next to it, can take an AOO (with the +2 from Anna’s aid another). Since Anna is aiding, I would assume that will be Nikolai taking one AOO. If he chooses to take it, he will take 4 additional damage from the quill defense, and make a DC 28 reflex save, or a quill lodges in him as well. It tried to grab Nikolai and run, but the freedom kept the grab from succeeding, though Nikolai does take 28 damage from the bite. It is now sixty feet away from where is started, so more like ninety feet from those attacking from range.

Michael floats near Trayvin as he attempts to save him. He flinches as the big cat hits him. I think I'm gone my brother, tend to the others right now. if that thing comes back, you all need to be in fighting shape. i..i..can't help you. Seeing the worry, on his teammates faces, moves Michael, and a warm feeling fills his non-existent chest. You know Trayvin, I never quite understood you, I mean you are big, tough as boiled leather, smart and fairly handsome. yet you chose a cleric, to all the gods! you're a lot more than a walking healing station though, you are like a rock, steady, steadfast, dependable you always gave good counsel and though you did it but rarely, gods you had an infectious laugh! heh..heh.. You know I wish I'd have talked to you more about the afterlife...I"m just kind of hanging around here...there's no heavenly staircase or, thankfully, the abyss opened up to receive me. Hope I'm not just gonna wander the world from now on...aw heck that wouldn't be so bad, I'd have some great stories to tell you when you finally came to see me...I'm gonna miss you guys...I worry about the Mailed Fist. Hey if we win this thing, you demand that they remove the reparations we have to pay to Isldur... Michael has never been "nervous' in his entire life, yet he is now. and apprently it makes him run at the mouth. he guesses that's okay though, nobody can hear him. so he prattles on. . ...so then she tells me, "I'm not that sort of girl,“ I back away a bit, and she jumps on me! I swear I still don't understand women...You think maybe one of the gods can expalin them to me?
There is a sucking of his spirit downwards. He panics for a moment thinking his sins have come back to roost and he's headed for a bad place, then he notices that it's his body drawing him back in. He dives towards his body. as he does he Thanks his teammates for not giving up on him.
Michaels eyes open, without moving he scans the area and himself. No danger and a lot of the damage he suffered is gone now. Clerics are no joke. He takes a deep breath, last he remembers the cat was messing him up really bad, then some kind of dream...it fades from his mind. without a conscious thought, his hands find the hilts of his weapons and he stands up. He notices the quill still stuck in his arm, he stows his weapons and begins to try and work it out. but cannot quite get the thing out one handed.

Sigvar heals Michael, yells to the others, and starts to fly after the quick six-legged cat. It is easy to follow at the moment, as it is fleeing quickly and leaving quite a bloody trail through the grasses. Pru aims at the cat and fires a ray at it, but the green ray vanishes before it can reach the fleeing cat. Akri quickly aims some magic force missiles and strikes the rear of the monster.
Michael finds his life force leaving his body, but then very suddenly drawn back in. He sits up on the ground, looks around, and decides to pulls out the quill. He tries to do it carefully, but instead tears the hole and causes himself quite a bit of pain. Trayvin stands watch over Michael, bleeding, as he watches the beast flee, glad it did not take another swipe at him. Nikolai lets the creature go and moves to help Michael as well. He sees the Michael is starting to get up, so he drinks a healing potion himself.
Pompous continues his careful aim at the fleeing monster and watches his arrow arc through the air and strike true once again. Anna changes shape again and again, twisting and turning into various plants. She stops appearing as quite a scary-looking plant and then starts to move to follow the creature.
The creature continues to run, slowly starting to disappear into the taller, swaying grasses. It continues to head off in a diagonal direction to the right and slightly towards the massive sar in the center of the grasslands. It does not look to be escaping the circle, but once in disappears into the grasses, there is no telling when or where it might appear again.
OOC: Sigvar’s heal on Michael should be a standard action, then casting divine favor is another standard action. Unless there’s something I’m missing there, you can only complete one standard action per round, so I’d think Sigvar would moves, then do the heal, so no divine favor yet.
Pru – the range on Ray of Enfeeblement is 25 + 5/2 levels; or 50 feet for Pru. The cat is 90 feet away. You don’t really need to use up that spell slot as Pru would realize before firing that she can’t reach it at that distance.
Michael – failing the heal check for removing the quill results in the quill being removed and the sickened condition being remove…but because of the failure, 15 points of damage!
Anna – I’m not sure if changing shape would automatically remove the quill, so I guess it remains. You should be able to regenerate, but the quill would just stick there, still giving the sickened condition.

The Sargrass d20+26=43 ; Tuesday June 19th, 2018 11:33:13 AM
Michael makes his way to his feet and drinks a potion. He feels much better but is still battered. He looks out into the grasslands after the monster, but he cannot see anything other than waving bits of grass at this point. Pru takes aim and fires a magical arrow of green acid at the beast. She is pretty sure that she hit it, but it really disappeared into the grasses while the arrow was flying through the air. She mentions holding the circle and staying put.
Pompous talks about putting up a wind wall, but he doesn’t remember any of the quills flying through the air. Everyone who was impaled by a quill stuck themselves on the quill simply by getting too close to the monster. Michael asks about some kind of magical armor protection against quills. Nikolai asks for a spear and watches towards the center of the circle.
Trayvin asks about the magic from the creature, because he knows that his own magic will not hold on much longer. Those infected can feel that they are still infected, though Trayvin’s magic keeps the effects at bay. Anna yells back (can a plant yell?) as she continues to move in the direction she saw the vicious cat go. Akir starts to send another force missile after the beast, but he stops when he realizes it is just too far away and disappearing into the grasses.

Wherever the bad kitty is, the Acid Arrow continues to sizzle and do damage. This round, kitty takes 7 points of acid damage.
Not sure what else to do, Pru casts a Wall of Ice. By itself, the wall won't do much, but it's intended to be one side of a "funnel" that will direct creatures toward the front line of the group, and hopefully slow them down to one or two at a time. Her wall of ice cannot curve, but she casts it at an angle, which she hopes will work just as well.

Pru throws a fireball out into the grass where she thinks the beast may be hiding. The grasses burn for only a second before the red of the grass appears to absorb the flames. She’s not sure if she hit the monster or not. Sigvar dives for the ground, playing the stalker’s game and hiding himself. Now who, exactly, is hiding from who?
Trayvin stays with the group, but knows his Freedom’s call won’t last forever. Michael fires a couple of sling bullets into the grasses – perhaps he is already starting to go mad. Anna moves over to the group and sets herself up as a barrier between the group and the incoming foes. Akir joins the main group and tries to heal a little bit and Nikolai heals himself.
Sigvar hides and waits for the six-legged monster to reveal itself. He lies in wait, but can see nothing but grasses waving, almost angrily, in the swirling winds that have recently increased. There is no attack, but Sigvar, despite having spotted the cat last round, now really has no idea where the creature might be. It may have continued to flee, or it may have moved closer to him and could be right behind him!
The others, watching towards the center of the circle, see the wave of grasses headed towards them start to twist and form into yet another creature. The Sar beyond, that was large and overpowering, now looks much smaller than it was when these battles started. Meanwhile, the creature forming out of the grasses is taking the form of a dragon – a huge, thirty-foot long dragon. This dragon does not fly with the ease and grace of dragons of legends. Instead, this creature has a very long neck and it almost looks to be struggling to fly with the violent motions of its tail and wings. In fact, the strange motions of the wings appear to even be affecting the grasses below it, making them twist and turn in new directions. The dragon’s head turns and twists and you can almost hear it from this distance, speaking in a strange tongue that doesn’t quite make sense. The dragon’s scales are all colors of the rainbow from dark black to shimmering white. It flies erratically, but it is generally headed towards the group and the bottom of the ice funnel. It is over 200 feet away.

My question would be that if the grasses are that tall to hide such a huge creature, then it would be logical that our Medium sized PCs would have total concealment even if standing, but that creature seems able to pinpoint target us with its tail spike attacks despite it's head hiding in the grass. Apart from anyone flying, at least.
Just wanting to make sure its concealment in the grass is equally applied to us and our concealment in the grass if the grass is in fact that tall.

There is a flash of light as a large minotaur comes into view behind the Murder Kitty. Tall even by taur standards, the 9 1/2 ft tall figure is a commanding presence. Perhaps it is the 10 ft bastard sword slung across his back, a third eye in the center of his forehead, or that he casts no shadow in the Wold.
Casually he brushes some, well, your not sure what it is or that you even want to know, but he brushes it off a black pea-coat sewn of chimera skin with cold as wisps of dark fog seeping from underneath his cloak.
Where the armor doesn't cover you can see the scorpions moving through his fur. Not crawling on top of it or under it, within in it as a ghost passes through a wall or a tattoo through the skin. If that were not strange enough, a silver Holy Symbol like you have never seen before is emblazoned on his forehead and in the center of it is living third eye darting left and right. On his breast is the adamantium emblem with the IA Shield worn by the Iron Adventurer's before they became known as the Iron Dragons.
Bloody liches returned from another dimension...I can only stay a moment, I do not want those things following me over here, but hopefully I can draw this things attention long enough for you to heal and attack. One glimpse at the blood drenching his body and the magical residues upon him make it clear that this is not one of those times you can sit back and watch the show.
Anna says to her companions, "The Murder Kitty either has fast healing or regeneration or some other ability to recover from injury. It is looking a lot less injured than it was before it headed off into the grass."
Anna stands firm with Michael and Trayvin and lashes out at the dragon as soon as it gets within range of the 15 feet she threatens.

It tries to bite down on the minotaur, but misses while its tail lazily swings around and slaps him in the back with the massive quills.
Pru prepares a web, but the huge dragon creature flies right through it as if it wasn’t there (made the save). The group prepares for their final battle as the dragon attacks. It remains in the air, so those on the ground cannot reach it. It stays at least thirty feet off the ground to remain out of reach, though its erratic flying means it moves up and down somewhat. The head of the beast spins round and babbles strange noises and languages at the group. The noises seem to be gibberish and are quite confusing. As it hovers, the wings of the dragon beat and create a wind in various directions that buffet and blow against the Agents.
OOC: Bosk, hi there! The nice kitty tore into you for 41 damage from claws and 27 from the tail slap. Applying the 10 DR to each hit should end up with 38 total damage. The claws release poison, fort save DC 29 or confused. The tail slap may leave a quill embedded in you, DC 28 reflex save or quill is lodged in you, gain the sickened condition until it is removed, which requires a DC 20 heal check (full round action).
Everyone below the dragon needs to make a will save DC 31 or be confused. I think perhaps this round the Freedom wears out and all the confusions are no longer suppressed…

"Thank you, Bosk," Pru calls. The minotaur may not think he did much, but soaking up a whole attack from Murder Kitty was plenty!
But Pru is confused. There's no way the glitter dragon should have been able to just blow through a Web like that. [My apologies; I didn't list all the effects. Even if a creature makes its save, it has to succeed at a Combat Maneuver or Escape Artist check to move through the web, and even if it can do that, the web is difficult terrain. On the other hand, I kind of like the idea that the rules just don't apply to this creature.]
And then Pru goes from just being confused to being actually Confused. She manages to calm the buzzing in her brain long enough to act normally this round, but she's not sure how long this will last.
Acting on Sigvar's suggestion, she casts a new Haste on everyone. If Bosk is still here, she includes him as well.

From the spell description of Confusion. Any confused character who is attacked automatically attacks its attackers on its next turn, as long as it is still confused when its turn comes. Note that a confused character will not make attacks of opportunity against any creature that it is not already devoted to attacking (either because of its most recent action or because it has just been attacked). I KNOW the kitty hit a bunch of us after it confused us. Look back and see if you are one of those people. If you are, you shouldn't be rolling, you should be all about Murder Kitty dying. Of course if Michael lands that stab, Sigvar needs to, um, kill him. How long is the poison's effect on us? 1 round per level is the spell duration so is it 1 round per HD of the Kitty? Does Kitty need to save vs Babble Dragon's babbling?
Whiffling wind The description says that the wind created by the creature s Severe. Severe winds impose a -4 to fly checks. There is normally no check to fly unless you do something odd like dive, or turn sharply etc. Isn't a DC 15 check a bit high for something that is normally no check? I ask because Sigvar will need to burn a hero point every time that he flies at this beastie, you know cuz armor and size and stuff.
The Sargrass Wednesday June 27th, 2018 12:49:18 PM
The confusion takes over the Agents of the Fist! Bosk calls out to the Agents and cast a healing spell while the giant cat takes him in her mouth, the massive teeth digging into his body. Michael attacks Sigvar as Sigvar runs at the beast. Fortunately, he does not reach the beast and its dangerous quills yet. Nikolai and Anna hit themselves in the massive confusion. The battle seems to be nearly lost as the cat and the dragon join forces to finish off the Agents of the Fist.
There is a sudden pause as a beat flows out from the center of the grasslands. You feel a light shock wave burst across the lands and through you. The two creatures stop and look back and you see the grasses waving. Another pulse beats out and the dragon and the murder kitty fall to the ground and curl up. Another pulse of energy and power and the two of them are starting to turn back into the grasses from whence they came! The confusion from the quills and the dragon quickly vanishes and you can see that across the battlefield all Sarr creatures are collapsing to the ground and falling from the sky and everything stops. It would appear that the battle is over.
Finally, there is a huge writhing as three final gigantic creatures emerge from Sar. They are so large -- a hundred or two feet high -- that in emerging they rip the Sarr asunder! They are the mysterious figures, here born as the new powers of the Sargrass Plains.
The one with the oak leaf circlet transforms into a gigantic treant. The one on stilts transforms into the mother of all Sarg moths. The one with wings transforms into a series of flickering beastial shapes.
They speak together in unison. Each of the Powers says a different word when there is a choice in brackets.
“WE ARE THE SARR REBORN! WE THANK YOU, HEROES OF THE WOLD, AGENTS OF THE FIST, FOR YOUR PART IN BRINGING THE PLAINS BACK TO THE WOLD!”
“WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR PART IN [ENDING/TAMING/CURING] THE THREAT OF THE BLOODGRASS.”
“WE HAVE AGREED THAT WE MUST NOT WAR AMONG OURSELVES, FOR THAT WOULD DESTROY OUR HOME FOREVER.”
“AND SO NOW WE RETURN YOU TO YOUR HOMES, WITH ALL OUR THANKS!”
OOC: Each PC receives 19,200 xp for the bandersnatch.
P.S. Yes, you really did defeat the confounding Bandersnatch. It was fleeing, near death, but when one character at a time went after it, it took shots at the easy targets because that’s what it really likes to do! Although it may have gotten ugly when the confusion wore off because it likely would have kept tracking you in this environment…still, you did work together enough to drive it away, and that’s a defeat in my book!

In the rising mists you see the avatars of gods ... a great silver dragon ... a greater gold dragon ... an all-seeing eye ... a waxing moon ... a blue-eyed dove ... and others besides.

But surely no evil demon could sport such an honestly happy grin!

The Plains, preserved by the power of the Fey Queen, are returned and tied into the Wold as they should be. And now life will spring anew throughout this land. The Agents are weary and worn. Many are still injured and there is blood and remains all over the battlefield. Across the plains you can see other groups in similar situations. The heroes of the Wold are just exhausted.
Sigvar asks about the rest of the Wold. Gimp replies, “Eh. We’ve really just been focused here, so the rest of the Wold should be fine. All that spreading bloodgrass should be gone, so yeah.”
Michael asks about sanctions. The small imp replies, “The what, now? That sounds like something that’s, well, not something I care about very much. I can check with the big guy, but if I don’t care, he probably won’t, either.”
He looks around for another moment, then there is an audible “pop” as he suddenly disappears from sight. The entire plains area starts to get a little blurry and it feels like you are moving once again. You find yourselves pulled again through time and space. When you look up, you can see the old manfri from so long ago in front of you. While you are flying through time and space, he reaches out to each of you, one at a time, and hands you a small rock. The rock is rough around the edges, and each rock is unique. It is layered with bits of white, red, orange, and green chips. Turning it over, it feels lighter than a rock of that size should appear. You can see lines of red flowing through the rock, similar to the flowing grasses of the Sargrass, and they almost appear to be moving. When you hold it up, you swear you can almost see the great battle on the plains on the Sargrass through the edges of the rock. You like holding the rock, it feels good to have the rock. The manfri smiles and bows at each of you in turn, then vanishes into the air.

As they fly through the nether realms he tries to find his centre, when the old Manfri shows up he accepts the stone with a bow...looks odd in space, but he does it. The novelty of the stone makes him forget, for the moment, the poor treatment of the fist so long ago. it's still there though and one day he will make it right.

She then rests for a bit allowing her regeneration to heal whatever injuries she sustained.

(OOC: Today's Post)
Anna receives the luckstone in her tendril and then dismisses the plant shape she adopted.
She then dismisses her new huge plant form reverting to a large humanoid form except Anna's skin now has a green hue to hit. Her hair remains red but it isn't hair, it is grass.
Anna says, "My Lady has bestowed upon me a new gift. I'm now a kin to plants and I don't need food, rest or sleep as long as I have some sunshine. Provided I get my sunshine I will stand sentry for the duration whenever we camp moving forward."

Prudence Gundle [AC 21; HP 83/83] [Haste; Mage Armor] Saturday June 30th, 2018 12:16:39 AM
"Thank you," Pru says when she is handed her stone. She turns it over in her hand. It's nice. Pretty. She tucks it into her belt pouch.
She looks dubiously at Anna. "A plant?" she says. "Are you sure that's what you want?"

Sigvar accepts the stone. He is a bit bummed that they were not able to collect the Bandersnatch head, to go with theit Jub-Jub bird one.
Nikolai (JonathanT) AC 25 Tch 24 Ffted 21 HP 64/78 CMD 27/29(Grapple) Sunday July 1st, 2018 7:55:26 PM
Nikolai thanks the Manfri for the stone. When he holds it, he feels it's power. He also feels more 'experienced'. Life teaches valuable leasons, like, even demi-gods can learn leassons.
OOC: I'll be working on moving Nikolai up to Monk 6 this weekend. BTW, we probably have loot to deal with, I can't remember. I've lost track of most things we did since this all began. If anyone has that list, please repost it, now that we can actually do something with it.
Akir Al'Kaban - AC 27 - Hp 90/90 (Ken E) Sunday July 1st, 2018 9:29:59 PM
Akir happily takes the stone. He considers a way to fix it to jewelery. It was nice when his hobby and his career intersect.
