The party is prepared without too much fuss and the following morning is set to head out of Dirt City and into the trackless hills. The day promises to be on the hot side with light clouds. The terrain becomes rough and scrub brush filled by mid morning and you pace slows as you have to pick your way up and down the inclines and around scrag and broken boulders. By midday the heat has really set in and you begin to feel it draining your stamina.

Slogging through the heat, Ethani is somehow able to manage it better than she normally would (Fort-17).
She wonders if she should cast Protection from Elements and finally relents, knowing that the journey will be particularly miserable for her and her delicate aquatic skin should she continue in the heat.
Patting her new Cure Moderate Wounds Wand at her side, Ethani wonders, not for the first time, if she has come anywhere close to preparing herself to keep the party alive.

Setting a steady pace in the hills, Lornak starts to feel the effects of the sun when they encounter scrub and scrag. He casts Endure Elements on himself to be comfortable in the heat. (Endure Elements d20=23, DC 15 Success)
He staves off the heat (Fort Save d20=16).
Lornak has no illusions about tracking their quarry with any realistic success as they make their way towards the ruins the pair are supposedly heading to. He does not waste any time looking for minutia. He does keep an open eye. Reaching into his hood(which is covering his head and eyes, protecting them from the sun) he pulls his Ioun Stone from the small of his back. It floats inside his hood.

Before the group leaves, Toston and Wil go into the Catacombs and secure a scroll of Dimensional Anchor. With Gaffer simply being able to prepare Faerie Fire, there is not a need to purchase a scroll. Add the scroll and subtract the cash and who is going to have it to cast?
Dusan Gaffer and Lornak each cast a spell of protection from the heat and it will no longer be a problem. Ethani Hmerrin Wil and Toston easily soldier on. Over the next few hours the draining affects of a hike of this nature may take a toll

Ethani is a little worried how quiet Asteria has been of late and decides to spend some time with her when they break camp for the evening.

Asteria feels sluggish and slow, lost in her thoughts from the heat. The haze is lifted from her mind as she feels the effects of the heat disappear with Ethani's spell. After what seems like years of not listening, Asteria tries to comprehend the current situation. "So uhhhhhh, stealth and no killing? I dunno how much help I'll be."
Scooping up Peri, she makes sure to keep the pup well hydrated and in shade, using her cloak to protect him from the beating sun. "My little warrior needs to keep his strength up!"

Ethani casts Endure Elements on herself as well as Asteria. Toston pulls out a scroll and solves his heatstroke problem as well Asteria tries her best to help Peri, but bringing a small puppy into the wilds might not have been the best plan As long as the puppy is pure role play it should survive The first time it fetches, sniffs, distracts or anything that can be interpreted as a benefit to the party and it becomes open game. DM Fair Warning Hmerrin, the only one not magically protected makes it through the day without issue from the heat. Tomorrow promises to be just as pleasant and the young fighter suggests that additional precautions be taken so at the end of a long march in the sun no one is weary for the fight that is likely to happen
The sun plunges towards the rocky horizon and the deep of twilight rolls across the land. The night promises to be clear, which in the open also means remarkably cold. On the plus side, the stars and twin moons should provide abundant light allowing nocturnally challenged races to see well at 20 meters and to pick out movement at 40.

Never having had the experience of "camping" while she grew up, Ethani is well and truly out of her element. She has no gear to help the group make camp. Which is stupid because they *literally* just experienced this, and you would think she would have learned from her last adventure.
Huffing in exasperation, Ethani sets about trying to prepare for the night. She'd love to cook, but has never made a fire. She has not prepared food for the trip. Gods...I'm not cut out for this adventuring life!! I can't believe what a city dweller I've turned into!
Looking over at Asteria and Peri, Ethani worries. She would hate for any harm to come to the pup...they should have left him at home. Too late, Ethani offers Asteria a portion of her water for the pup.
Turning to Lornak as the evening winds down, she offers first watch. She also hand him a small platinum ring. "My love, I need for you to wear this ring as a symbol of our love." She points to the ring on her left ring finger. "I suppose you could consider it a ring of engagement...but more than anything, it is a way for me to keep you safe. If you do not wish the commitment of wearing it on your marriage hand, I am fine with wherever you would like to wear it. But.." The Healer looks down at the ground, trying to be careful about her wording. "I *need* you to wear it. I need to be able to protect you. Please do not deny me this."

Once determined Lornak leaves the campsite for a bit to find some critters to eat for the evening meal.(Survival d20=20)
He searches the flora and fauna for things he can add. (Knowledge, Nature d20=12) Lornak eyes dry branches and grasses before heading back. He has no trouble gathering up what is needed to create a campfire.
Once settled, he casually reaches into his bag pulls out his flint and steel. He holds them close to the kindling and strikes them together making sparks. Once he sees a smoldering puff of smoke he adds tuft and begins to gently blows air onto the lot. He watches as small flames begin and branch off and grow. The campfire ready, he sets a spit and cooks up the catch.
He enjoys a meal without having to dig into his rations.
When night comes, he sets down his bedroll next to him. He chides Ethani a bit; "Yes, you should my love." He rolls out the bedroll and offers it to her. "The night is actually quite lovely." He pulls out a blanket for himself. "Not like that night in the 'Winds of the Bloodgrass Plain.'"
Lornak is a taken off guard by Ethani's words. While the tattoo on his chest is enough for him to measure the commitment between himself and Ethani, he concedes it clearly is not enough for her. "I know a brush with death can bring important things into focus but this seems,... sudden." He shifts nervously, looking around to see if there are any prying ears listening in on their conversation. "This is a conversion that we should table and discuss in private..."
He sees her discomfort well up in her assertion of need. "I am not opposed to wearing it!" He blurts out to break the silence. He wraps both hands around hers and takes the ring into his hands. "In fact, I am honored." He says in a more controlled cadence. He slides the ring onto his left ring finger. "As much as I feel it should be you who are the one protected and that we've only just begun our relationship, I acquiesce to your needs of course."

The group settles in for the night. Ethani laments somewhat at her lack of preparedness for over nighting in the wild. While Lornak heads out in returns in a few hours with some wild rabbit, herbs and edible roots to feed five in the group. he is also easily able to start up a fire and has supplies on hand to keep it going through the night. Normally Dusan is a leary of keeping a watch, as he needs his sleep to be able to prepare spells, but this day has not required him to use any and so he volunteers to stand a watch this night.
Lornak, Toston and Hmerrin also stand a watch as does Asteria and the evening passes into the deep of night. It proves to be as Gaffer and Lornak expected, a brilliantly clear night and the stars do not disappoint those who take the take to enjoy their majesty. A chill is in the air, a stark contrast to the heat of the day which makes it seem cooler than it probably is.. The twin moons are out as well and you can actually see your shadow cast on the ground from their light as well as see quite well to 60 maybe 80'. Though it is considered dim light with the ocassional trick of the shadow as the breeze catches a sage plant or an owl soars just overhead to cause its own shadow to traverse your vision.
Night does give way to dawn and the group awakens refreshed from a good nights rest in the crisp clean air of the wilderness. Though perhaps the more city inclined tended to shift a bit at the rough ground, or were brought to near waking with the ocassional coyote or wolf call and of course the hum and chitter of insects can be distracting to some as well.
The morning promises the day to be very much like the previous day

Gaffer sleeps reasonably well through the night, not one to be put out by the wilderness. In the morning he asks his allies to wait while he meditates on his spells for that day, and when finished uses Endure Elements communally to give himself and two others who need it eight hours of protection.

Cuddling in close to Lornak during the chill of the night, Ethani is thankful for his understanding. Many men would not. As she rises, she witnesses a spectacular sunrise and joins in her morning prayers to Alemi with renewed vigor.
"Lord Alemi, giver of Healing, sustainor of life. I ask that you help me temper my feelings today. Should we find these criminals, fill me with your love, for I fear the old hatred that lurks in my soul. You send your healing to enemy and foe alike. I, as your vessel, should do the same. Heal my heart O Lord."
Making sure that Lornak is covered by Endure Elements (most likely by Gaffer, Ethani casts the spell on herself and Asteria, and then one on Peri. Finally, she casts Shield Other on Lornak.
As they begin to break camp, Ethani wonders out loud. "I wonder if we shall find these outlaws today, and I wonder if they will be together."

When the party begins to stir he greets Ethani with a kiss. He feels her spells work within and around him; "Do not worry. I am sure by now one has betrayed the other and when we do find the survivor he will be half dead." He says sarcastically. "Such is The Tide's luck is it not?"
Lornak thanks Gaffer for the offer of the Endure Elements spell; "Thank you but please help young Hmerrin. The Kid has all that manly armor to carry around."
Lornak makes sure that the fire is out completely. He repacks his gear for march. He laughs at Dusan's predicament; "Haha, you will have to join me for more hunts then my friend!" He makes sure to slap the man one whatever shoulder ails him."

"Y'know, I was thinkin about like, a backpack or something for Peri? I dunno if he's used to all this walking. I wanna make something for him once we get home, so if anyone has any ideas, let me know I guess?"

As the day wears on, your path veers into a valley. At the entrance to the valley, between two hills, you see a huge oak tree.
If you make a Know Local check vs DC15, then Highlight to display spoiler: {This marks the edge of the regular range of outriders from the House of Knives. The tree is a hangman's tree, and intruders -- especially from local goblin and orc tribes -- with no business in Dirt City are sometimes hung here as a warning. Beyond this point, it is a PVP area, so to speak, and the regular order of Dirt City honor among thieves no longer applies.}

Past the tree, you see that this valley is full of wetlands and marshy patches. There are several springs, brooks, and ponds. It is only a few hgours after dawn, and the heat of the day is not bad. Will you stay in the shady areas, which are marshy, or stick to higher ground, with the heat of the day sure to take its toll soon.

Dušan takes a closer look at the piles of bones. Maybe something useful was left behind. He then notices an empty line hanging from the tree. Batting it aside, he note, "This could be a bad sign if whoever or whatever was hanging here is now free."
Considering the two ways, Dušan is bombarded with memories form his Blood Pact with Visaura. The swamp was her domain. He had never physically been to a swamp. From what he knew he both repulsed and enticed by the notion, not entirely like Visaura herself. "The swamp could be troublesome, but it could get us out of the worst of the heat."

"We all got heat protection spells right? I say make 'em work for us and stay out of bog and quicksand plagued bug palaces myself. Plus, we can see what's coming from the high ground."

Lornak scrutinizes the scene. (Taking his Persp roll from last post d20=24) "I believe Hmerrin has the right of it." He bends down and examines the bones more closely, looking for chew marks. "Probably critters." He stands up and looks at the rope.
"It is definitely a killing ground." He spins the end of the rope in his hands. "And if memory serves a place where the Knives set examples for any natives that have a mind to stray towards Dirt City." (Knowledge Local d20=15)
He looks up at the sun in the sky, gauging the time of day. He looks back at the swamp. He sees the lush greens the dark browns almost black. He knows what can lurk in those scummy waters. The moisture would be a boon. He wishes he could plow through the tangles hunting for alchemical materials. Part of him is enticed to wade through it for the sheer adventure of it all.
Then Ethani asks a pointed question; "After this point we are officially in the wilds." He cleans his hand on the fabric of his thighs. "No rules, no civilization and everything is out to get you."
He shifts his pack upon his back and turns towards the hills; "We take the high road."
Toston says, "Why that tree is certainly grisly." in reference to the hanging tree. He double checks the scrolls and then picks through the remains to see if anything of their quarry may be in there. If so their hunt is over before it began and they would have failed at bringing their quarry home alive.
Toston then says, "I think we should take the high road as it gives us a better vantage point and tactically would be better if it came to combat. It may be hotter but aren't most of us magically protected against the heat? Furthermore wouldn't it be a bad thing to be bogged down in a swamp if fighting broke out?"

The party decides against the shady damp route and sticks to the high ground, although a few look longingly at the cool shade.
The overland trek begins, on a partly cloudy day. At one point, under somewhat thicker clouds, something happens. Gaffer's Perception 32 puts the distance at 160 feet when you see something odd. A dark "cloud" emerges from under the trees over there. There are two ... giants? ... at the center of the cloud. They are hustling toward you at about 60 ft per round. They'll be on you in three rounds.

Ethani involuntarily grabs her chest when she spots the giants. Giants...why did it have to be giants?!
Eyeing how quickly the giants will be on them, she is thankful that they have not yet engaged in archery. Actually, she shudders. Though she thought she was fine with the whole I died but I didn't really die thing, her physical and mental responces tell her otherwise. So this is how PTSD feels. I've seen it and treated it in so many others, but it is completely different when you experience it in person.
Frozen in place, Ethani tries not to tremble, but it's an involuntary response at this point. Still, she knows that if you do nothing, your fears will consume you, so she pulls out her Bull's Strength wand and taps Asteria.
"Hey Hmerrin, if you want Bull's Strength, please stick around next round and I'll give you a tap." she calls out with a somewhat shaky voice to the Kid.

Lornak senses Ethani's hesitation when the word 'giants' gets thrown around. He places a hand upon her shoulder gently and helps her move toward the open space that the group is tending toward.
"Watch to see if it changes direction." Lornak says about the oncoming cloud. "If it follows us as we get out of its way, it intends to meet us."
Lornak reaches for his hand crossbow slowly and nocks a bolt into it. With the Ion Stone active and floating within his hood Lornak gets a better look at moving cloud. (Perception d20=25) Finished with it, he reaches up, deactivates it and stows it in proper place within his cloak.

Dusan buffs himself with a Mage Armor.
Gaffer joins the party at the flat meadow. He looks at the "cloud" -- he thinks it is more like a patch of magical darkness.
At least, that's what keen-eyed Lornak says as he loads his crossbow.
Wil wants to effect a summons and cast Fly, but that will take two rounds. He does one of these, and can do the other next round.
Toston buffs with mage armor as well.
The stocky giants -- ARE they giants? -- hustle closer. They end the round 100 ft away. They are still in the area of dim lighting, which moves with them.

Dušan hates to cast such a powerful spell with out being able to guarantee the results, but he regretted the last time he did not cast it. With that in mind, he channels the energy and casts Confusion trying to center the spell to capture as much darkness as possible while still surrounding the two ogres in the 15 foot radius.

The Shadow Air Elemental swoops through to strike. As it does so, the ogre strikes first with is superior reach. Fly By attack only grants the addition of a standard action at any point during a move The elemental hits, but so does the ogre Hit AC 22 Miss 36 Dmg 27
Toston moves up 10' and casts a flaming cone at the ogres, burning both of them.
Asteria holds the line with Hmerrin.
The lead ogre (G1) roars and tears his feet from the grabbing grass and then bears down on Toston with his massive great sword. The other ogre (G2) shouts... The from the darkness you see 5 orcs in leather with Fachions and longbows, hidden until now in the dark and behind the bulk of the ogres The orcs look to one another quickly, some try to get out of the plants while others dutifully fire. Orc 3 and 4 fire at Asteria, with 4 moving out of the Entagled area as he does so. Hit AC 12/6
Orc 5 makes a break for it and escapes the Entangle. He too draws his bow as he goes Orc 1 and 2 fire at Wil Hit AC 14/13

Summoning is a Full round action. you cannot move and cast or use an item that Summons Gaffer begins casting Call Lightning Toston draws his weapon and stabs the ogre deeply. I don't see any sword attacks and until the ogre moved on round 3, you were never in melee range. What did I miss? Ethani casts Enthropic Shield on herself to stave off possible arrows Lornak fires and hits the ogre on Toston and swiftly loads another. "Does anyone speak Orc?" If that was not enough, as he goes to fire his crossbow he is hit with a barrage of cold. He throws up his arm to shield his head and face. Yet, he cannot resist succumbing to the cold and ice. His arm burns.(26 half dmg=13)
He forcefully breaks the defensive posture. He hears a snap as shards of ice and snow shatter and fall to the ground around him. He is glad it was not his arm. He trains his weapon at the third Orc archer and fires. (Attack Action d20=24, 6 dmg). DROW POISON: Fort Save DC 13. If initial save fails, unconsciousness for 1 minute
His arm numb he forgoes prep for another poison tipped attack and nocks a bolt into his crossbow and raises his buckler. (Standard Action and free action).

Wincing as she takes half of Lornak's damage from the arrow and then the cold, Ethani does her best to maintain a poker face, not wanting Lornak to know just how bad sharing his wounds hurts her.
Smiling, she tells herself that if she lives past the next few seconds she'll have protected Lornak. If not, then she is sure she will find a way to protect him in the afterlife...perhaps by becoming one of Wil's allies.

Dušan feels the cold rush over, around and through him, freezing him to the bone, "Close... too close..."
Fighting the urge to just huddle himself on the ground and let sleep take him away from the stabbing pain in his limbs, he staggers as far back as his numbing feet will cary him. Not sure if he'll make it much longer he considers what he can do and sees Ethani was caught in the blast as well. "The Ttttiddde can't see you fall twice, Ethani, "Dušan manages through chattering teeth, "besides... you... you're better at healing than I am."

Toston stirkes the Ogre with his blade, causing the creature to wobble Gaffer completes his spell and calls a bolt to strike the Ogre and then a second, which puts it down. Ethani steps closer to Asteria and casts an Aid spell upon her Lornak gets struck with an arrow and then the blast of cold tears into him. Both wounds also appear upon Ethani (Ethani takes an additional 17) Lornak fires and hits one of the orc archers. The orc stiffens and plops to the ground, the poison taking effect Hmerrin moves on teh mage and sinks an axe into its thigh DM presumes you would move to new target Wil starts summoning a shadow Dire Bat last round you moved, this round is a full action summon spell. Bat shows up after your turn andd does not attack this round Fly By attack as I read it only allows for a single attack. The Orcs attacks fail to land anywhere near Toston so he heads 20 feet towards Ogre 2 and then fires off a scorching ray (10 vs AC; miss natural 1) which veers wildly off the mark. Toston calls out to Hmerrin, "I've been able to do that since we beat back the Sargrass, this is just my first chance to actually use it."

Toston closes on the other ogre and miraculously misses with a Scorching Ray Ethani returns the favor for Dusan and then some. She channels positive energy healing Dusan, Lornak, Gaffer, Asteria,Toston and Hmerrin all receive 18 HP Wil conjures a Dire bat which springs to the ogre and bites it. Before the Bat arrives, the Air Elemental swoops in and is destroyed by the ogres blade. Gaffer calls down 8 bolts from the sky, striking every orc and the ogre. Dmg would be rolled individually and would be 3d6. Call Lightning does not create stormy weather Lornak fires and strikes Orc 4 Hmerrin spins and whirls and plants his axes in quick succession and the ogre topples over dead Dusan taps himself with a Cure Light Wounds, just in case Asteria is ready to tear into the ogre, but Hmerrin has now deprived her of a kill. Not sure where you might head here
Orc 4 and 5 turn and flee at top speed Orc 1 looks about panicked and tries to free himself as his fellows run. He manages to succeed and off he goes. Orc 2 again, blasts himself in the face. His legs wobble and blood pours from his face. Orc 3 lies motionless, taken down by Lornaks poisoned bolt
No map needed I think at this point. Orc 2 is beating himself to death in the entangle and Orc 3 is sleeping. The rest are at 200+' and running at top speed

Patting Asteria on the back, Ethani heads over to the orc that is busy pummeling itself. "Toston, once he's unconscious, can you please bind him. Then I will heal him and we will see if we can find out some useful information."
Ethani takes a few minutes to look over the "dead" Ogres and tries to assess if they are truly dead or just bleeding out. If it is the later, she looks for help to secure them and will heal them once they are bound.

Can you do that?" He asks the shadowy creature. "We ask him some questions then you can eat him."

Gaffer chuckles as Wil reigns in his spider and joins the group around the Orc beating itself and asks, "How long will that one be out for?" Nodding at the sleeping Orc.
He cracks his fingers in turn to release some of the tension in them, and once they have the surrounded the confused Orc, he relaxes his hold on the natural energy around them and dismisses the entanglement so the group can move freely.

Concurring with the possibility of gleaning knowledge from them he is suddenly away of the unconscious ones health. "I am glad that that one did not cause us any trouble..." He points to the fallen orc. "...but I do not know the severity of which the Drow Poison will have effect upon him."
"Would you care to take a look at him, Dusan?" He asks. "We will bind him first of course."

She throws a rock in their general direction, with little to no effect, before very dramatically dropping to the ground cross-legged. She crosses her arms over her chest and begins to pout. "That's not fair! I was gonna beat them!" She mumbles to herself as the adrenaline wears off, and her rage fades away. "I barely got to do anything... This was boring."
Looking over at the remaining orcs, she frowns. "Can I at least play bad cop with them? I wanna rough someone up."

The orcs are bound are brought to consciousness. They wear practical leather armor in the heat and upon the breast of each is burned an etching of what seems to be a great cat. A leopard or panther perhaps. The weapons are gathered, A Falchion and longbow with a score of arrows from each. Each orc also carries a potion

Toston looks at the potions and is able to determine that 3 of them are Conjuration magic. His Detect magic also reveals that both of the longbows and 1 of the Great swords are magical. Ethani remarks to the group that she believes the orcs can understand common. She then proceeds to cast Zone of Truth before any conversationss begin. The healer of Almei starts with the basics. Why did the group attack and hav they heard of Oafish adn Jared? Asteria proceeds to terrify the two prisoners. The pair of orcs shrink away from her, cowering and nearly coming to tears. Both just shake thier heads, pleading for thier lives and blaming the dead ogres. Toston works on the weapons, unraveling their capabilities. +1 bows and +2 Greatsword. he also speculates teh potions are curative. Gaffer has a seat and lets things go on without his input. There wre enough bodies about the orcs already. Though the astute druid can see something brooding under the fear of the orcs a hateful vengence as the orcs try to rally themsleves from the initial fright of the threat of violent death from human woman. Lornak has a drinkg offered by Gaffer and tries to ease the druids mind on reinforcements being an issue. Confident the group is not in immediate danger. Wilford takes a differnt tact with the orc prisoners, though it is obviously one that is confusing to them somewhat. He is able to calm them. Wil too, sees what Gaffer was picking up, but as Wil spoke to them, he could also see that immediate reaction changing. Shifting towards a more nuetral and possibly causing them to not simply think all humans were enemies.
One orc answers Wil, "The names you use are not familiar to me. I am called Olka'Majk, Hunting Shadow in your tongue. To answer the drow's question, we are of the Leopard tribe. That is our emblem. The Oni ordered the attak, you do not disobey the Oni." Hmerrin keeps an eye out towards the marshy ares where opponents or nasties might sneak in, he spies nothing Dusan joins in speaking to the orcs in thier own tongue. He ellicits a responce from one, "There were a pair of humans though not so long ago, they went to the tower." he gestures in teh general direction you have been travelling the other than nods and adds, "Yes they went to meet," he looks about and whispers, "Them" The first orc looks about nervously at this

Ethani thanks the orcs and reassures them and then asks about the Tower they mentioned. Wil asks the orcs if they should be taken with to the tower Lornak decides Hmerrin's caution is prudent and also scans the area. He does not notice anything amiss either Dusan identifies the 4 potions, Cure Serious wounds Asteria levels another threat at the orcs and they again cower
The orcs shy away and good nrevously back and forth at each other and then to Asteria. "The other two in the Tower." The orc gestures to the north and as if to make the creatures point, a flash of lightning flashes from that direction. The distnat roll of thunder sparks a memory with Lornak. The direction the party is travelling in does indeed contain a tower, Bone Tower. Where the dead body of Kevintar lies and where the dead body of Marteaus used to lie. One of the orcs speaks again, "The other 2 humans that stay there. Your friends have gone to meet them. The tower is about 10 miles away."
It is this last part that lifts a weight from Lornak. Bone Tower is at least twice that far

Turning her attention back to the orcs, she continues trying the Diplomacy route. " I worry that without your Ogre friends you might be attacked and we will not be there to make sure you survive. Is it possible for you to guide me to this tower or at least get close? Maybe if you're willing to guide us there I can convince my friends to let you keep your armor so that once you leave us you won't be completely defenseless."

Through watery eyes, he manages to gasp, "Yeah, that'd be great," Then he turns and takes a long visual inspection of the other side of the hill.

Ethani mentions that perhaps the orcs could lead the group to the tower. Thier reaction to this idea is very plain, it terrifies them. "Oh please do not ask us to do such a thing." Hmerrin has a similar reaction if not quite so much on the scared side, but still not apparently thinking it to be sane idea. Gaffer concurs and offers his ability to be an eye in the sky. He asks Lornak about Bone Tower. Should the group worry? Lornak mentions the wasting disease, a magical ever shifting area that slides about Bone Tower and if the group might get so close. The orcs both shake thier head, "No Bone Tower is no place for mortals if you go there you shall surely die. Your friends are not there, as we have said. They met the others at the first tower, the ruins of old. Dusan thinks on what he knows of Bone Tower nad it is much like what has already been said. It is the resting place of Kevintar, twin immortal of death and disease of the days before the Year of Ascension. Before Gargul was even a god. I is also the rumored location where the mortal remains lies of Marteaus lies, shed when he became a god Toston mentions that Bone Tower is likely beyond The Tide, and he has never made a more correct statement.

Before they head out, Ethani asks to pull to the side after they have traveled out of sight of the orcs. "I would love to summon an ally from another plane, but it will take several minutes. Can we wait? "

The group wraps up the discussion with the orcs, there was little else these two could tell the party and as Hmerrin lays out what the party just did to the entire band, the pair nods vigorously in agreement with the fighter.

Ethani asks the orcs to make better decisions and not attack strangers on the road at first sight. The orcs are cut loose, given any of their gear back? and head out at a good speed to the south west as the party continues north west.
The marches and low lands are left behind by mid afternoon. You have reached the shallow hills. Juts of rock and low ills are marked by rain wash and crevaces of water erosion. Small trees gow sporadically and much of the reddish ground is covered in sage brush and grass. Cloud cover has been the main feature of the sky for the back half of the dy, but Gaffer does not expect any rain, though tonight will not be as luminescent as it has been with starlight and the moons partially obscured.

Lornak puts up his Ioun Stone and takes in the terrain as the group journeys towards the Shallow Hills. (Perception d20=28) He does not expect any surprises but one can never be too careful.
"It was my intention to speak with the animals around the tower when we had gotten close enough to see if they would have any useful information before we braved going inside." He thinks the idea of having a spy would be helpful to all; "If you have an avatar that reconnoiter for us, I can prepare my Detect Snares and Pits and Summon Natures Ally spells instead."
"Whoever used the Entangle spell during the last fight, know that I can prepare that in your stead as well if you would prefer to prepare something else."
When the campsite is reached he sets down his things. He agrees with Wil's caution about a campfire; "Just be aware that without one we will have to use our ears." He looks up at the setting skyline noticing stars beginning to twinkle. "It seems like we are getting another pleasant night but fire usually deters critters. Without it we may have a few visitors."
He hunkers down and produces his bedroll and blanket and proceeds to find someplace to eat the evenings dinner; "Trail rations it is then."
"Walking through doors sounds useful." He replies to Toston. "Not a bad consolation prize for buying the incorrect one." He recalls some memories. "I can remember a time or two where that would have been more handy than my Thieves Tools." He says with a wry smile.

To Ethani he says, "Anyhoo, Can Alemi send a representative that knows how to cast dimensional anchor? I can talk to animals once a day just for being a gnome and can try to ask the animals near the tower for anything we might find interesting."
"Too bad the scroll of dimension door is divine and not arcane. If I could teleport mayhap I could teleport to the guy who knows how to dimension door himself and stun him so he can't teleport away."

Gaffer walks into the middle of the area of where the group intends to set up camp. "I thought maybe we could all do with a proper night sleep" he says and begins casting Grove of Respite. He cannot help but smile to himself as he does, glad to provide the group with a more tangible benefit. Once it is cast he adds, "You can eat the fruit, they should do you a little better than those rations."
With regards to Ethani's discussion he says, "I may be able to offer some small spies of my own, but it I imagine they wouldn't compare to what your own ally can bring. Perhaps they can help offer better direction for your own. Is it something we can call upon once close to the tower?"

After ten minutes have passed and the Grove grows into existence around them, Gaffer excitedly shares the details of it's functions. "I'll be woken up if anything intrudes into the area, so we can perhaps all sleep a little sounder. Oh and the fruit should help us recover a little if anyone is still injured." After explaining everything he lies down on the softer earth and begins to relax, knowing things will likely get increasingly dangerous from tomorrow.

"Amazing my friend!" Praises Lornak. "Was that a scroll or do you know it yourself? I would do well to learn it from you for future outings!" Lornak cannot wait to try the fruit. He looks forward to a solid night of rest.

Munching happily on some of the fruit from the magical Grove, Ethani prepares her spell. "This is not like summoning a monster. I will actually be requesting a planar being. He or she can be hurt or even killed while performing what we ask. So, he or she will likely ask for payment of some form when summoned. Usually the cost is somewhere along the lines of 600 gold per minute, 3,000 gold per hour, or 6,000 gold per day. I don't think we have enough to ask it to stay for a day, so we need to be *very* specific about what task we want it to perform. So far everybody seems to say scout out the area. If you're sure, I will begin the spell."

Asteria watches in awe as the shaded grove surrounds her and her friends, lush and alive, and seemingly created from nothing! "This is soooooo cool!" She giggles like a kid and claps several times, before immediately making it her priority to climb up every tree. Thoroughly worn out before she even starts though, she instead makes due by chomping down on the fruit and helping to set up camp.

“Gaffer,” Dušan exclaims, “You’re my new best friend!”
Happy to not be eating trail rations again, Dušan savors his share before calling it a night. He goes to bed early to see if he can still take a morning shift for watch after he recharged for 8 hours.

Ethani brings up for discussion casting a spell to bring an ally from Alemi. The spell is one of her most powerful incarnations, but it does come with limits and costs. Gaffer casts Grove of Respite. [i]I can't find the spell and need some assistance here on what it does
The group seems to be in agreement for Ethani to cast the spell with the thought of the ally sent to scout ahead. You are currently 5-10 miles from where you think the tower is Ethani will need to spend 500gp in casting the spell, and then the group will need to supply the payment which will vary, based on the task presented
There is no fire in the magical grove. Is there going to be a watch? If so who and when?
