Zane rambles a little, clearly not knowing what everyone’s talking about.
Garret very carefully messes up his pass by accident. Then hopes that even with no food there would be snacks.
Sesha answers Restlin’s question.
Wyarr comments that Restlin would need something to not mess up his nice clothes in the dirty books.
Beri explains what he wants to research.
Restlin is ready to go and offers Sesha to be his +1
Bosk follows along, not sure what he can do to help but willing to try his best.
Robert the notary says to Katinka, “I’m s-s-s sorry Ma’am. You are kind of a living legend being a high ranking Justicar and Iron Dragon member. I just don’t feel my work is necessarily up to the task of serving Dragons.”
Auslander says, “Pish, man. You graduated top of your class and I haven’t had you create documents or certify anything that wasn’t top notch. I asked for you personally because I like your work and I know if I ask you to do something it will get done.”
Auslander then says in response to Zane’s remark, “My memory isn’t great today. Robert please create one more library pass that is good for a year in the name of Zane Stormfront.” To Zane Auslander says, “Forgive me my good fellow. Even if the library can’t help you with your undertaking perhaps it will provide you with other information related to your heritage once things settle down?”
Upon seeing Garret stuff the pass into one of his pockets and hearing him mumbling under his breath about snacks Auslander says to Restlin, “Might I have a word with you?”

With that a trip to the library is in order. You arrive at the sprawling library complex, surprisingly it would appear whatever magics are in effect kept the grounds of the library mostly intact despite having the recent events involving the Sargrass.

With her CC shopping complete, some crafting done, a little training, Tink finally feels ready to hit the adventuring trail again. What better place to start than a library!

(Of course Tink has Profession, Librarian...)
Restlin gives Auslander a nod, though he's not sure how to keep Garret out of trouble AND get work done. A tall order to be sure.
That said, Restlin's a smart guy.
On their way to the library, he stops at a confectioner's and buys the biggest, sturdiest jaw-breaker they have. He wants the thing the size of his fist. He'll use polymorph any object to make a small one bigger if need be.
When Garret arrives at the Library, Restlin hands over the gloves of his special suit that always remain clean no matter what and suggests Garret try them on.
He then casts Sympathy on the jaw-breaker, making it irresistible to members of the Goodbarrel family.
Garret must make a DC 42 will save or be fascinated by the jaw breaker and unable to leave it alone. SR check is 35. If he succeeds on the will save, he must check again in 30 minutes.
Restlin will keep Garret occupied until he fails a save and becomes enraptured by the jawbreaker. Once he's safely eating the massive thing, he'll join Tink in her research. He will stay near the halfling, pondering things aloud where he can hear. Dude may be a handful, but he has moments of brilliance.
Knowledge, Arcana: 51 - Restlin should have a good idea where to start looking, at the very least.

Garret smiles when Restlin hands him the gloves. He tries them on and says, "I guess they're neat. Is this something I need to have in the library?" When Restlin hands over the jawbreaker, Garret takes a look at it (will save: 45!). He licks it all around and continues to handle it. He says, "Tastes nice." He starts to look around the library, but eventually starts spending more and more time on the jawbreaker (second will save, 35). "MMmmMMmm...."

It seems that our enemies have started to do their homework on us and made preparations. We need to do the same if we want the Wold to survive. Could you tell me what shelves I might find books detailing Kevintar and Marteus? Specifically about their their strengths and weaknesses, past combat, their final days, and Bone Tower.
There is also a cult that moved into that area that are I'm curious about. I believe the cult has been around for some time, and while they only recently have been of note records of their preferred magics and weapons would be nice to find.
Oh, and any documents you may have telling tales of a free-willed undead construct would be extremely helpful.

Sesha watches Beri with a bit of a smile. It wasn't like him to take charge of research like this. Usually he let Restlin or Bosk find out what was needed. Perhaps being Gargul'd was enough to motivate anyone.
She quickly and suddenly has a gut impulse to look for Garret. If he snuck in food, but not a napkin, books were in danger.
DM Mitch Thursday August 9th, 2018 7:55:55 AM Tink asks about sentient machines
Restling gets and enchants an enormous jawbreaker to keep Garret busy.
Garret starts to enjoy the jawbreaker, though he’s able to resist the enchantment at first.
Zane explains he’s only worried about Dock around Agatha; it can take care of itself otherwise.
Wyarr agrees with Zane’s point and suggests they always have someone escorting her when she interacts with Dock.
Ber asks about books on the gods, bone tower, cults, and free-willed constructs.
Sesha wonders if Beri’s recent experience with Gargul is what is driving him to research so hard.
The librarian looks at Tink and says, “Sentience to a machine? You mean like constructs and golems? While the library does keep some tomes about this practice for historical purposes access to said tomes is generally heavily restricted, however seeing as you are the Iron Dragons and your papers do all seem in order I do suppose I could grant you access to these tomes.”
To Wyaar she says, “We have historical texts detailing the saga of Gargul and his twin punishers. You are free to peruse them if you like. I’m not sure if we have anything as detailed as what you are looking for because a lot of the chronicles took artistic license at certain points in time. We do have a number of treatises on the bone tower though as it is a really interesting structure that has captured the interest of many Woldians. As far as your cult inquiries go we do have books on cults in general but I don’t believe anyone has written anything recently regarding the particular cult you have been having run-ins with. I’ be more than happy to send for someone to gather the books we have on cults but I’m not sure if it would be worth your time. As for your question about a free-willed undead construct the best we can do there is some illustrated children’s books about a being from another world who died was brought back as an undead using powerful magic and merged with a magical suit of armor. The kids really seem to love this one for some reason, I don’t get it but I digress...Why don’t I have someone show some of you to where we keep the tomes on constructs and others of you can go to where we keep our historical texts on Gargul. I’ll send someone to deliver the books on the Bone Tower and cults there as well. I’m honestly not sure if we have anything that will satisfy all your inquiries but we will do the best we can. ”
She rings a bell and a grizzled looking bald dwarf with a red bird appears from a hidden passageway. “Quimby, please escort some of the Iron Dragons to the special collections. They are interested in learning what we have about constructs and golems. Take the rest to where we keep the historical texts concerning Woldian Deities specifically Gargul. They are looking for books related specifically to Marteus and Kevintar. Also please dispatch someone to gather any document on the bonetower or cults and deliver them to the historical Deity section.”
Quimby bows to the assembled Dragons and starts escorting you down the passage he came from. A short while later you emerge into a wide room with a fireplace and several rows of book shelves. He says, “This room houses our historical texts on Woldian Gods. That shelf, that shelf and that shelf pertain to Gargul. Someone will bring you texts concerning the bone tower and cults if some of you will wait here. The rest of you follow me.”
Those that decide to look into the construct texts follow Quimby down more passageways zigging and zagging and finally ascending a spiral staircase. Quimby says, “We keep our special collection in a place that is hard to get to. Not many people are allowed to view them but if giving you access to the collection would enable you to better save the Wold who are we to keep you from it. Beri digs through the ancient tomes and learns a ton... such as the fact that ancient tomes are hard to decipher. It's as if the scholars went our of their way to make things sound as complex and as hard to decipher as possible. Perhaps they were able to charge more for their books if they sounded complicated. He wonder's briefly where the children's books are that were mentioned. He is glad that Restlin is able to make better use of them then he is.
That's a great idea. It sounds like it shouldn't matter where we enter, so it would be in our best interest to not used the most heavily guarded entrance.
As for Kevintar, I wonder if he was also somehow tricked into thinking Gargul gave him commands... or it could just be that a lifetime of solitary confinement slowly drove him crazy. Can't say I'd blame him.
I guess that just leaves the free-willed undead construct. As far as I know, those illustrated children's books are our best lead, unless you think we'd be able to scry for the construct based on just the general description we have.

DM Mitch Friday August 10th, 2018 8:13:07 AM Tink doesn’t have much luck researching.
Garret sits down and enjoys his jawbreaker.
Wyarr plays errand boy.
Zane quickly gives up and camps next to Garret to keep him out of trouble. Then something Restlin says perks him up and he leaves.
Restlin really shows his research chops and quickly pulls all the important information out of the tomes.
Beri hits the children’s section.
Bosk heads out to get other business done.
Zane flies off looking for Dock. He manages to locate the construct using its rescue cranes to clear debris.
After some chirping from Dock, Zane manages to get the impression that the crystal that made Dock did come from the Crystal Mountain at some point but it was changed somehow. Dock knows it was built but it doesn’t know by who. Dock had been minding its business when all heck broke loose and ended up captured and enslaved by the blood grass lich and forced to serve as a power source for the giant castle and escape pod.
Beri rings a bell and Quimby appears, the dwarf says, “The illustrated children books? That is an unusual request but follow me.”
He leads you back down the twisting and winding corridors into a room filled with pillow chairs and shorter book shelves. “I believe the tails of the undead warrior and his magical suit of armor are somewhere over there.” the dwarf points.
After some digging Beri finds a couple books of an unusual art style (black ink on white paper with characters who have big eyes with small mouths) depicting the adventures of a character with the strange name of Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man. In the first book of the series Mega Cyber Robo Ninja man was just a normal guy well normal for that world. Apparently people drove around in vehicles reminiscent of dock except with wheels instead of the ability to fly and made from what appears to be metal instead of crystal. He died horribly due to an ambush by organized criminals and was brought back after a fashion using the most unusual magic techniques Beri had ever seen illustrated. He was fitted with what seemed like a magic suit of armor that had further strange procedures done on it and after everything was complete Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man had a magic sword, a small range weapon that could knock people back or damage them like an odd shaped wand and a large range weapon reminescent of Dock’s armament when it was under the influence of the blood grass lich. The rest of the books detail him teaming up with a gang of people wearing strange hair styles and carrying odd equipment and fighting against other larger constructs. The books don’t really list an author’s name and it appears they were rebound from whatever their original cover had been.
Restlin doesn’t really find much about what dimensions the bone tower may interact with. The problem seems to be that no one really ever wrote about it. Whether it was because their expeditions into the tower lead to their deaths or just because the tower hadn’t really been fully explored is hard to say.
There is some speculation in a manuscript by a Bard named Rupert the Mirthful that the dimensions the tower connects to hold some kind of special significance but it doesn’t really go into detail about what that significance could be and there was an oral tradition of a prophecy of the significance of the connected worlds being revealed when the timing was right. As the dragons prepare to have a stupidly expensive dinner (OOC: everyone deduct 10 gold per person; more if you are feeling generous as equipment section lists a banquet at 10 gp per person) Restlin thinks long and hard about what possible dimensions the tower could exist in. When you had your encounter with the other dimensional orbs pre-Sargrass you noticed most of the worlds you visited were almost alternate versions of your own though some had terrible outcomes.
Zane is able to make his special purchase for Garret (OOC: deduct an additional 2 sp for the cloak)
Quimby looks a little taken aback by Beri’s question about the origins of the strange book and the rebinding. He says to Beri, “Well here’s the thing about those books, they were found during the events involving the mist prior to the Sargrass invasion. It’s like they came in with the mist, the odd thing is that none of them had covers. Multiple copies too. We managed to secure the ones that were in the best shape and conventionally bind them. The thing is they are just so unique and the kids do seem to love them but we’ve had mages check and there isn’t magic or anything on them so they are safe to read we think. Alchemically the ink and paper seems to be different from the ink and paper we typically use but that shouldn’t be a problem. Just seems strange how the world depicted in those tales is so much different than our own. Then again weren’t the orbs different too?” he asks you.
You take in your meal, you have Dock (a sentient free willed construct), some information about Gargul, Marteus, Kevintar, the bone tower, golems and cults and a mission from Gargul to actually go to the bone tower and free Kevintar. While the strange rebound books detailing the adventures of Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man were interesting you don’t really know who wrote them. They did turn up recently during the time when the orbs were popping up all over Hook City so it is possible that the books themselves came from another dimension, it would certainly fit with the alchemical oddness noted by examiners but even if the books came from another dimension how could you use that to help you? What do you want to do next?

Garret hears the others talking over the rings, but he really likes the jawbreaker. He wonders why he hasn't been able to wear it down. It must just take even more licking on it before it wears down enough.
When the others leave, Garret doesn't even notice as he continues to focus on the jawbreaker. Someone has to go back and get him and gently prod him to his feet to get him to go to the dinner. The dinner finally breaks him out of his daze as the sight and smell of food are enough to distract him from the jawbreaker. He slips it into his pocket, still wet, of course, and smiles at the nice spread of food.

Zane eats his fill, and then says, "So, there is a plan now?"

Sesha isn't much of an eater. She picks over some of the better fruits and vegetables, eats a little raw fish and soup, and saves most of her stomach for dessert.
She decides to wear pearl to dinner, and her dress has a sheen that is opalescent, like the inside of a sea shell.
After dinner, she decides that she has been passive enough in this process.
"I don't think so, not yet. But we shouldn't leave here tonight without one."

Restlin is much smarter than Carl. I'm making a straight INT roll to see if I can piece together all this information into some sort of...idea. Not a whole plan, per say, just trying to figure out if what we've learned may pan out into something, or if we should drop the whole other-dimension line of inquiry and start worrying about sentient constructs more.

Restlin is mostly quiet during dinner as his mind turns. He feels like he may be on the verge of figuring something out. He could be dead wrong about that, but it's worth one final big thinking session.

Beri sits down at the table. At first he thought about something light, but when he realizes they are going to an actual banquet the druid decides to get his moneys worth. He starts of with the rack of lamb, garlic mashed potatoes, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, and a nice Bordeaux to round it off.
As he eats he listens to the others discuss what to do next.
Well, as much as I'd prefer to go in with a plan, I fear that Gargul may have put us on a path that forces us to rely on blind faith and luck... so in other words, we are going with our default plan.
He told us we would need to "Go to Bone Tower. Defeat the cult that has already defeated the orcs formerly there. Secure the entrance. Find two free-willed corporeal undead, two free-willed constructs, and one free-willed undead construct who will declare their devotion to me. Also find five hearts, of creatures powerful and potent, hearts of virtue, sin, order, chaos, and balance. Enter the Tower with these allies..."
He also said regarding the plan that we could "disregard or adapt as fate prompts"... I have a hunch he knew we'd try to do things in a more logical order, and phrased it that way so we'd be able to accept that fate is forcing us to secure the tower, and only then find what we need to gather the rest of the requirements. And if we have to deal with the cultists first, my guess is that the cultists are on the same mission. They've probably spent the last few years hunting down the clues we are looking for now, and perhaps even obtained some of the requirements.

It could help preserve our spells, although then we run the risk of having to then defeat a band of orcs. I think a good starting point is seeing if Dock can recall anything about where he came from and who made him. We should also see if anything else came in through the mist. Agatha might know about that.
DM Mitch Tuesday August 14th, 2018 8:09:28 AM
Garret is eventually prodded into leaving the jawbreaker alone.
Zane gets Garret a cloak that acts as a bib and wonders aloud if they have a plan.
Sesha tells Zane no, there isn’t a plan yet.
Restlin wracks his considerable brains for a plan and a theoretical idea that is hypothetically possible slowly forms in his head. He remembers that Agatha and Sprocket used material from the gate from the Float in order to accomplish something with the first draft of their trans-dimensional device as the gate at the float has a property that allows it to connect to other places. The library seems to think that those Mega Cyber Robo Ninja man books came from some other reality. Mayhaps it is possible to use some or all of those books as a focus to establish some sort of connection to wherever the books came from in a process similar to whatever Agatha did with her prototype. Mayhap those books are some kind of historical narrative? If so actually going to the world where the books came from may allow them to find Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man or something like him. He’s possibly a construct, possibly an undead, possibly both. The procedures in the book done on his corpse and armor were very strange so who is to say what the final results of those odd magicks were? As much as Restlin loathes the Star Mages and Agatha, it might not hurt to at least pick her mind on what he is thinking. Mayhap she and Sprocket can make his vague idea a concrete reality? Mayhap they’ll be able to tell the others more about the strange procedures in the book at the very least?
Alternatively Beri rehashes what Gargul wants the party to do and speculates that they may be able to take advantage of any progress the cult had achieved if they go to put an end to their presence in the Bone Tower first.
Wyarr has no ideas to offer.
Bosk suggests they recruit some orcs in the area to help them retake the tower entrance.
Now that everyone’s eaten, what will you do next?

He looks down at the cape and says, "No matter, more pockets equals more food!" As the banquet appears, he tries out the pockets to see which kinds of food will fit best in them. When the food continues coming, he ignores the pockets and really starts eating...and eating. As Beri mentions the plan and the hearts, Garret mumbles, "Who wants to give up their hearts for this kind of sacrifice? Are we savages?"
Then you can hear a light snoring as Garret leans or falls back in his chair, as he has eaten himself into a solid food coma, a drumstick of some kind still clutched in one hand...

Beri digs into a slice of spiced pear cake and a cup of coffee as the group discusses how to proceed. In any case, I do think we should pick Agatha's mind on this. Her and Sprocket are the only two that seem to understand how this stuff actually works. If we go it alone, there is too much that could go wrong. If we were to find ourselves trapped in another dimension, that would be horrible enough, but our failure would mean that pretty much everyone in the Wold would suffer as a result as well.
Besides, I'm fairly confident that Agatha would be willing to put off any messing around with the constructs if we promise to give her sole access to this information. She's more interested in getting publications in the star mages than anything else, and wouldn't jeopardize her chance to be the first sole receiver of this info.

It may even make that whole part of the ritual trivial."
He grabs Sesha's drink and downs it in a gulp, continuing on before she can protest. "Agatha and Sprocket know far more about dimensional doodads than I do, but if any energy from that other dimension exists and they can detect and focus it, we may be able to pay it a visit." Sesha points out that Agatha is pretty reliable and could probably get them to another dimension, though they might end up as fairies or something.

Wyaar and Tink seem to be keen on trying to give the front door a try after seeing if they can rally some orcs to their cause to retake the entrance.
While others have misgivings about going to Agatha, Restlin, Beri and Sesha think it could ultimately be worth the risk.
The next day when you go where Agatha and Sprocket are working on repairs you find the 2 in the vicinity of Dock though not onboard your new friend. Agatha does seem to have some strange device pointed at the sentient construct from afar and taking some readings.
She nonchalantly puts her device down and tries to play it cool as you walk up to her, “I’m not taking it apart, I’m just getting some readings with regards to the type and strength of magical auras emanating from Dock. The weird thing is the strength and type of auras that construct puts out seems to change based on what it is doing and the color of the large bottom gem that has something to do with its flight capabilities.”

Agatha says to Sesha, “You know my interests in other dimensions and why I am so interested. A place where Gods are created could also be useful for our end goals. As far as sentient constructs, the concept is certainly fascinating. I have been studying your new friend and it would certainly be a feat to create something like him.”
Restlin gets the impression Agatha’s instrument is a detector not an emitter so it can’t interfere with Dock’s functioning. Tink gets the impression that Agatha is being honest with them.
After hearing of your recent trip to the library she holds up a hand and says, “Let me show you something. She claps her hands and Sprocket drags a metal suitcase about the same size as the gnome himself over to where you are. She undoes the latches on the suitcase and opens it up to reveal multiple copies of the strange tale of Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man.
She says, “I collected these samples during the orb events pre Sargrass invasion. I thought they might come in handy as the technique used to produce the paper and the ink is alien to me. Honestly I had intended to try to use these to calibrate a potential destination for my portal generator but so much else has kept me away from trying that. I do wonder though if the place where these books came from are the origin of the story itself. Perhaps the denizens of this dimension are spreading the word they received from another dimension elsewhere in the multiverse. I honestly don’t know if we can calibrate a gate to get to the dimension to books came from and if we do I don’t know if it will be stable enough to go back. It is quite possible that the journey itself is a one way trip, however if you brought the right person and tools along you could probably get to another dimension from the origin dimension of the stories if you absolutely had to thus mitigating the risk of the dimensional trek being one way. Though honestly if you have to keep leap frogging dimensions, not able to go back the way you came I’m not quite sure how long it would take you to find another point that intersected with your home dimension. I’ll tell you what why don’t you give Sprocket and me a day or three with our portal device prototype and the books we collected and see if we can’t establish a connection with the source dimension. As I said it might not be possible. If it is is possible we’ll send for you and I and you can follow the trail of these strange stories wherever they lead.”
Dock chimes to Zane that it has taken a few breaks and is enjoying the work.

He should have known Agatha and Sprocket would be on top of this, but their news isn't too heartening. The thought of leaping from dimension to dimension, striving to find sentient constructs, and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home...well, he'd rather not go down that path.
He does let Zane know that Agatha's current contraption doesn't affect Dock in any way, just in case he was concerned.

Beri examines one of the books. If you have enough copies to spare, I think we'd all like a chance to go over the story of Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man to figure out how to proceed and any details we can about how that dimension differs from ours.
I see why we need to use the books to anchor us to the other dimension, I assume that we have a lot more options to choose from in our own dimension. Is there anything particular that we can look for that will provide a stronger anchor or beacon to make it easier to find our way back ?.

Agatha says to Sesha, Wyaar and Beri , “You may all borrow a copy but we may need all the books to act as a focus, you see we aren’t aiming at the pictures or anything.” she emphasizes to Beri.
She explains, “We are using the unique alchemical signature of the paper and ink to attune it to other similar signatures that may be out there. The reason why we used pieces of the Float gate originally was because of a similar attunement.”
She says, “As for an anchor point in our own dimension we would need to take something with us that is as unique to the Wold as we can find in as much of a quantity as possible. She considers Dock and says, “If he is made from Crystal Mountains Crystal he may be able to serve as a focus to get us home, well potentially to the vicinity of the shattered Crystal Mountains but at least the remnants aren’t too far from here relatively speaking. Unless of course there is some time dilation in which case we could potentially end up in Ma’ab’s pocket dimension...that does beg the question could you cross paths with your selves during the events of the Sargrass invasion? If you did could you change the future or in our case the present? What would happen if you didn’t rescue Dock or he got destroyed because of something you told your other selves? Paradoxes abound. Hopefully there isn’t time dilation as thinking about it just makes my head hurt but of course we are playing around with things that have that kind of potential. We may figure out a way to bring back Janiterri and Serenbeth yet.” she says with a twinkle in her eye looking directly at Sesha

The Iron Dragons have been drawn to other parts of the Wold and haven't really had a lot of time lately to touch base with the people here. She doesn't want to come across as immodest, however the ID simply being seen might go some way to help uplift spirits.

Beri agrees with Agatha I suppose that's true. And as much as I think time should work a certain way, there's no reason the powers of the Wold would necessarily have agreed with that logic when they created it... or even that it needs to work in a consistent manner. I suppose we'll find out soon enough. No matter what, it's bound to be interesting.

Agatha says to Beri, “Well he was murdered by organized criminals. I think he used his ninja skills to fight crime and they didn’t like it. Per the books Whatever strange magic was employed brought him back, gave him strange weapons and armor and he met up with other folks wearing strange outfits and ended up fighting against an evil scientist and his robot army. I think robots must be a type of construct and I guess a scientist is a type of spellcaster we don’t have around these parts. Beri has a pen and paper ready as he begins to read about Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man. Before the main character has his aforementioned moniker he didn’t seem that remarkable by his native world standard. He was a ninja who fought crime but there seemed to be a decent amount of ninjas in his world, true not all of them fought crime but organized crime did seem to be a problem.
So much so that he was ambushed by criminals weilding a bunch of strange range weapons while he was riding around in a wheel vehicle that seemed to be almost like a metal version of Dock.
After that he underwent the strange magical procedure that turned him into Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man.
Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man met up with a character named Lazerhawk and a band of barbarians in strange raiment to fight against Dr. Henrichzimmerschneit a villain who has been terrorizing the populace with his robot body and servants.
The rest of the stories seem to detail Mega Cyber Robo Ninja Man’s run in with Dr. Henrichzimmerschneit and his robotic servants.
As Tink and Garret continue to explore town they notice a commotion at the riverfront. Large crowds are gathering to look at something floating down the river. Upon approaching the pair can see it’s a large cobbled together looking boat that is absolutely swarming with Kobolds. There must be over a hundred of the things, all crowded onto it like drowning rats clinging to a piece of driftwood. There is no sail, just a jumble of poles and tree branches to push it off anything it catches on.
Currently however none of the Kobolds are manning the poles. They’re all staring up at the crowds that are staring at them. Sense Motive 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { they’re absolutely terrified, at the huge crowd of giants (to them) looking down at them.}
One of them climbs up the the highest point of the ship. A thick cloak covers it, but it throws back the hood revealing itself to all. Golden scales glimmer in the sunlight and it waves it’s staff energetically, almost making it fall off it’s precarious perch.
”WE HAVE COME FOR THE DRAGON!” it yells in a high, screechy voice.
”The Dragon!!” several of the Kobolds chant after their leader.
”THE PROPHESIED ONE!!”
”The prophecy!” they yell
”THE SAVIOR OF THE WOLD! THE DELIVERER!”
”THE SAVIOR!” the other Kobolds scream, caught up in the energy of the speech.
The effect is ruined slightly by the fact that they’re floating past as she speaks. Most of the crowd only hear half of it as they float by, and several children run along the waterside laughing so they can hear the whole thing. The Kobolds continue screaming and chanting about their prophesied one regardless. One burley one, not bothering to join the chanting, struggles to pole the boat towards the edge of the river so they can stop.
Perception 50 Highlight to display spoiler: {it’s hard to tell because they’re a ways off and it’s not like you know kobold physiology well but they seem… underfed. There’s a dull cast to their scales, they seem too thin, and many of them are just lying on the deck crocking out the chants as best they can while otherwise remaining still.}

Zane brings Starblazer around to water level and watches what happens next.

Tink uses wall of force to help steer the boat
Wyaar makes his way to the docks with the others.
Meanwhile back at her coven, Sesha denies Y’zargo’s request re: Sister and says he’s free to nonmagically pursue any of the other members of her coven if he so desires. Y’zargo looks at her and says, “Matron, all the other members of your coven pale in comparison to you in terms of both beauty and power. Sister at least matches you in beauty and she is a part of your power but if she is not available then so be it.”
The ship is pulled up to the docks and the gawking crowd backs up as the Kobold leader runs across the boat to be the first one off of it. She looks up at the Dragons and tries to look tall and imposing. She fails miserably.
”WE ARE THE CHOSEN PEOPLE!” she bellows at the top of her lungs. ”the chosen!” the others repeat.
”SERVANTS TO THE GREAT GOLDEN ONE!” (The Gold One!)
”SHE HAS SENT US A VISION TELLING US TO SEEK OUT THE BRONZE ONE (the Bronze One!), THE SAVIOR (the savior!), THE MORTAL DRAGON (the dragon!). WE SHALL NOT LEAVE UNTIL WE SEE HIM AND LEARN OUR MISTRESSES’ PLAN FOR US! (We shall not!)”
While she’s doing all this yelling the burley one is working on the more practical problem of getting everyone off the boat. He doesn't know any other people who are part Bronze Dragons, with Kobold's being dragon-kin, they must also be talking about another Dragon-kin.... He walks up behind them and crosses his arms, waiting to see what's going to happen next....

DM Mitch Tuesday August 28th, 2018 7:44:53 AM Restlin notices how the kobolds have scars from the Sargrass and seem to be starving. He tries to start again in a friendlier manner speaking to the Kobold leader in draconic.
Garret tries to play crowd control.
Zane brings starblazer around and then lands on the shore nervous by all the chanting about the bronze one as he is the only bronze dragon kin he knows of around Hook City.
Wyaar channels a wave of positive energy into the Kobolds healing many of their injuries.
Beri joins the rest of the Iron Dragons transforming back to his normal form.
Bosk suggests they should start with feeding the Kobolds.
Tink helps with the crowd control, keeping an eye on the guards. The guards seem to be content with letting the Dragon’s handle this and are either staring or doing crowd control with Garret and Tink.
Zanes fears are quickly proved true as the Kobolds all look over at the landing ship and fall to their knees reverently in his presence. The big burly kobold almost drops who he’s carrying up a ladder as they gape at their prophesied hero.
The leader bows her head momentarily in respect before speaking in a surprisingly calm, not screechy or ranty tone. ”Bronze one. Long have journeyed to find you. My people need food, rest, and medical care. Will you aid us?”

The druid lets out a soft chuckle. Well, one thing's for sure, these guys are determined little sailors. I don't envy the waters they must have braved on this rickety thing to get here, especially between the mess the red vines would have caused, and the waves that would have come from the meteor impacts. Zane looks at the Kobolds, as he does so, he glances at Wyarr and raises his left eyebrow. "Just how evil are they?" he asks over the rings to the Paladin. To the Kobolds while he awaits a verdict, [b]"Well little ones, It seems that most of your injuries have now been healed. Any further injuries can be looked at as needed. I have a few raw fish aboard the ship behind me that can be provided any more food I'm sure can be provided. I also believe a place to rest can be found, if not I can arrange to have a temporary shelter built. Now since those will be provided, what is this about a Bronze One and some Prophesy?" Over the rings again, "Restlin, you have the mansion available to be cast? or not today? It'd provide food, and get them out of sight. Taking care of two problems at once. Also, can someone intercept Auslander before he gets here and throws a monkey into the problem and causes havoc?"

Bosk watches as Zane interacts with the Kobolds and shrugs. Turing to Restlin he whispers "Every town has its own weird customs. About a year before we met I spent six months on a moon where the principle form of recreation was juggling geese. Hand to God. Baby geese—goslings. They were juggled."
DM Mitch Wednesday August 29th, 2018 7:17:45 AM Garret asks Zane over the rings if he was trying to attract an army of weak kobolds and if there was a prophecy about it.
Wyaar is curious to see what is going to happen but realizes this is Zane’s moment so he takes a step backward to watch.
Restlin is not used to being ignored but he takes a seat and watches what happens next.
Beri notices the kobolds are determined little sailors envisioning the rough water they must have dealt with on their way to Hook city.
Zane asks Wyaar to determine how evil the kobolds are and then lets the kobolds know that most of their injuries have been addressed and food and shelter can be arranged. Then he asks the kobolds for more info before asking Restlin if he has another castle to cast as he’d like to get the kobolds out of sight and also asks for someone to intercept Auslander to avoid a potential worse situation.
Bosk tells Restlin something about juggling geese.
The little kobold seems highly insulted at Zane’s offhand assumption that they must be some sort of evil. ”Our tribe has served the Golden one for centuries! We are the chosen few saved from the depravity of our ancestors and we have done nothing to earn your mistrust. How dare you accuse us of being evil the moment you meet us!” Most of the other kobolds looked shocked that she would speak so to their chosen one, cringing and cowering as they bow their heads to the ground.
The burley one, having set down his current burden, walks over. He speaks to the rest of the party in Draconic, ”So you’re friends of the chosen one or something? Look, I don’t really care but could you please stop gawking and get off your asses to help me get everyone off the boat before it sinks? Geez I thought the noble races were supposed to be smart.” He glares equally at the party and at the small crowd of overawed kobolds that should probably be helping but aren’t.
If anyone looks then they can tell that the boat is indeed taking on water. It’s a very slow leak but there are still several dozen kobolds still on the boat, either too weak or to in awe of their chosen one to get off the boat, way to many for the lone kobold to get off before the boat sinks.

Restlin doesn't typically prepare a mansion spell when he's in town, but he can use his focus.
Pulling Shiny out of its scabbard, Restlin slices through the air & creates the doorway to his mansion. Beri addressed Bosk over the ring. Would that be Wardd and Kerracles... as much as I want to call you a liar, that honestly sounds like something Wardd would do. Beri looks at the ship and find a suitable empty container. He then pulls out his sustaining spoon and proceeds to fill it with a nourishing, if somewhat bland, gruel. I'm afraid I don't have enough for everyone, but hopefully this will help those most in need feeling a little better.

Restlin asks Bosk to show him the geese juggling after they take care of the Kevintar situation and then uses shiny to create a doorway to his mansion and creates a stone column to support the Kobold’s vessel and keep it from sinking.
Sesha says goodbye to her coven and goes to join the others. She whirls on Restlin when she gets there accusing him of collecting kobolds.
Wyaar detects evil on the crowd and reports back to Zane over the rings.
Garret joins Tink in looking for Auslander since the halfling figures Auslander will have some paperwork related to a kobold landing to attend to.
Zane grabs some of the weakest kobolds and heads into Restlin’s mansion encouraging the rest to follow him there as well.
Beri whips out his sustaining spoon and starts creating gruel to help the weakest kobolds have something at least to eat.
The burley kobold manages to avoid falling over and glares at Restlin. The leader bows deeply. ”Many thanks friend of the Bronze one. Come my people, let us take shelter in this strange portal.”
Between the party and a bunch of the Kobolds actually helping out now they get everyone inside. As the troop in Wyarr gets a good look at all of them with his detect evil. None of them register. That’s to be expected with most of them, as they’re too weak to show any kind of aura, but it’s safe to say that the leader and maybe the burley one should be strong enough to register something if they were evil. They do not.
The Kobolds seemed awe by the castle in a floating hole in the air. As they enter many of them stop and stand around gawking until the burly one yells at them to get out of the way for the rest of the group. Once the entire group is settled and eating (this place comes with food doesn’t it?), the weakest mostly eating the gruel from the spoon, the main two go off to the side to talk with the party some more.
Introductions finally happen. The leader introduces herself as Saasraa and the burly male is Kip. Saasraa is calm and collected, seemingly unsurprised by the extra-dimensional space. Kip tries to look unimpressed, but his eyes bug out a little and he keeps glancing around at the huge space in either suspicion or wonder.

As everyone enters the magical mansion you hear someone in the distance shout, “What’s all this then?!?” before the portal closes. Sounds like Auslander was late to the party. You’ll prolly be able to fill him in as to the situation afterwards.
Sesha stealthily sniffs the air having never met a kobold before and having heard they smelled. She can’t tell if it is the kobolds or Garret she is smelling.
Garret walks by with some meat on a stick as Sesha checks out the Kobolds.
Zane grabs an ale, introduces himself and asks for an explanation.
Wyaar informs that the kobolds don’t detect as evil over the rings.
Beri settles in with some food and a comfy chair to listen to the story.
Restlin starts up a car- no kobold wash. He mostly succeeds in cleaning them, though he also frightens many of them who are not use to magical invisible forces cleaning them without warning. A few see it coming and try to run or sneak past him.
Bosk listens in over the rings while getting his WLA training.
Tink keep a close eye on the Kobolds.
Saasraa pauses and considers for several moments. ”I suppose the best place to start is with a short history lesson. Long ago our tribe was like many Kobold tribes. Craven, envious creatures that hated the other races for their prosperity while lacking the courage or determination to truly advance their lot in life.”
Kip jumps in, commenting ”Other tribes don’t like us, I wonder why?”
Ignoring him, Saasraa continues, ”Then one day a great golden dragon appeared before us. She saw in us the potential to be more than we were and sought to lead us to greatness.”
”Or she took pity on us. Or she was bored.” that comment earned a glare from Saasraa.
”We were chosen.” she insists. ”She grew to love us as her own as we loved her as our goddess! She stayed with us for generations and even upon leaving us she chose many of us to be her priests and continue to guide us!” She gets more animated as she speaks, making grandiose gestures and falling back into her preachy speech pattern from back on the boat.
Kip makes a conciliatory gesture. ”Sure. Whatever you say. We’re getting off topic though, you were explaining why we left remember?”
”Right.” She has to think a minute to remember what she was talking about. ”Anyways, so we grew and we prospered for hundreds of years. Then several months ago everything fell apart. The first warnings were wild animal attacks. Creatures fleeing in panic into our caves, many maddened by some strange disease..”
”You don’t usually get stampedes underground.” Kip adds wryly.
”The scouts we sent above the surface didn’t return. No one was sure what to do. Then a strange red grass started sweeping down the caves, somehow growing into the very stone. Any who touched it or were bitten by the animals became infected with the same disease and became dangerous, lashing out at anyone uninfected and spreading it further. It was utter chaos.”
For once Kip doesn’t have a sarcastic aside. ”It was horrible. Friends, family, even pets, all dead or driven mad. A red tide that blocked all the exits.”
Both stop speaking for several moments, overcome by the memories. Saasraa continues.
”I sent all of the power granted to me by the goddess at the grass, but nothing worked. I became infected myself and lost all track of time.”
Kip picks up the story. ”Now I ain’t all that religious, but I owned a boat I fished the underground rivers in and when the preisthood failed people turned the docks for refuge. Fishing’s never been a big pastime of our people so all of our tiny fishing boats were swamped with survivors and a couple of them drag along the High Priestess here all tied up and ranting and raving about who knows what. I take her in and we buckle down praying for something to come along and save us before the animals or the grass finished the job.”
”At some point in my delirium I was granted a vision by our Goddess. A great city on the water. A battle against a bloodred god. A figure stood out, one with bronze wings that became a dragon as he fought. A voice spoke: Find the Bronze One. He will save you.”
Kip looks uncomfortable. ”I don’t know about that. All I knew is that we were all going to die there unless we did something. I was already thinking about heading downriver and hoping the grass wasn’t waiting for us above ground. When her minders told me she had started screaming about salvation waiting for us downriver It convinced enough of the others to help me cannibalize everything wooden we had to make that monster we sailed in on.”
He shakes his head sadly. ”Even with all the wood on the docks, including taking apart the docks, the ship only fit about half of us. Some volunteered to stay. Others were too ill or injured. Many panicked and fought to get aboard when we left. Those we didn’t cut down with our own hands were left to die.”
May the Golden one shelter their souls.” Saasraa says quietly, head bowed.
More died on the trip. With so many we could barely feed ourselves. We had everyone who knew how to fish dangling lines day and night, but there was over a hundred of us. At least a dozen starved. Once we got back above ground my other fear proved true. The grass surrounded the river on both sides. Maddened animals attacked the boat. The only meat available was infected. Already starving, we were desperate enough to eat it. It seemed hopeless.”
Saasraa picks up the tale again. ”I was to lost in the disease to know all this was happening of course. The next thing I knew I woke up and felt fine. I ached in every bone and I was incredibly weak, but the pain and the madness had fled. The disease was gone. I looked to my side and saw others, scared and weak, but also cured. It was a miracle. The Golden One had granted us deliverance.”
Kip snorts, but looks thoughtful. ”Well something did. The red grass was gone. The animals stopped attacking. Few of us were strong enough to do much. I gathered those that were and we nursed the rest back to health as best we could. Our boat had run aground while we were all delirious, but we managed to repair it. We had no idea where we were or how to get back home, if there was even a home left to go back to.”
”Kip’s efforts were invaluable.” Saasraa says, smiling at him. ”Were it not for him we would have died even though we were healed of the disease. I shared my vision with the others and we continued downstream trusting to our goddess to have guided us correctly. And thus we came here. We are bereft of everything Zane Stormfront. We place ourselves at your mercy. Are you the deliverance my vision showed me? Will you take us in, the lost children of the Golden One?”

Zane listens to the story and the side story from both Saasraa and Kip. He leans back a little and considers options.... Kicking them to the curb is out, what kind of hero would he be if he did that. Domi would be severely disappointed in him to boot. Heck his old instructors at the monastery would travel to Hook City just beat him around the ears for behavior like that. They obviously are in desperate need or they'd still be back in their cavern subsisting and living the life they had. He takes a semi-deep breath and then starts to speak. "I will of course render what aid I can, I'm fairly sure the other Iron Dragons will as well. After surviving all of that what else could I do but the help. This magical castle will last for a few hours to start. It also sounds like you'd prefer to be underground for a home, I also have an idea about that, but I"ll need to speak with the rest of the Iron Dragons about that Idea. I'll also see that your ship will repaired and safe and moored as well where you can get to it. Why don't you all get settled in here for the rest of the day, enjoy the food provided. It'll help bolster the tribe with health, at least for today."
Over the rings, Remember when we designed the Tower, I insisted in the underground Stables as well as the warehouse storage for whatever else we needed. We can easily convert the stable area to a "Den" or whatever they want. We just supply some lumber or whatever they need and they can move in. We can then find them permanent place or maybe some of them can work the group, we do need a full time crew keeping the tower looking proper for visitors coming to see the Iron Dragons. Heck, Kip might even prove useful running Starblazer helping out around the City an for any errands we might need. Starblazer might be smart, but not like Dock, he still needs directions to get anywhere. Zane has a few other ideas, but too much at once will overwhelm people....

DM Mitch Monday September 3rd, 2018 11:47:16 AM Tink is relieved to hear the Kobolds are zealots not evil and waits to see what Zane does.
Zane considers what Kip and Saasraa have to say before telling the assembled Kobolds they can stay in the magical mansion temporarily but he needs to consult with the other dragons as to a more permanent solution. He then talks to the other Dragons over the rings about converting parts of their underground area into a den or something for the Kobolds.
Wyaar is glad their reputation has spread far and wide and then chimes in over the rings that if the Kobolds are trustworthy he is not opposed to that.
Sesha is pleased with the outcome and tells Zane he is making the right choice over the rings.
Bosk reminds Zane of their servant quarters as well and says they could use more staff.
Garett performs a headcount. In total there are 162 Kobolds eating - 164 total adding in Saasraa and Kip.
Restlin wonders what Zane is going to do with a pack of worshipers.
Saasraa and Kip see that the Dragons want a private consultation and excuse themselves to go eat. They’re probably every bit as hungry as the rest, they just had to take care of business first.

Tink gives it a bit of consideration. Provided the kobolds supported themselves and weren't a burden on the ID or locals, she doesn't see why they cannot stay.

One of the perks of being in the Dragon Consortium. We took Joe's advice and worked the clay into a mechanism that would allow us to make future alterations, so extending the lower level shouldn't be an issue.

Zane opines over the rings that he sees no reason to deny the Kobolds request. He points out they aren’t evil but that he is bothered by the whole “prophecy of the bronze one bit.” He asks the others about keeping them in the basement. Lastly he decides to pick up a barrel of something strong to have on hand should similar situations arise in the future.
Beri agrees with Zane pointing out they had people sneak in through the basement in the past so having extra eyes shouldn’t hurt.
Wyaar is curious to see how the city will react to the new citizens and what paperwork may be involved.
Restlin points out that Auslander is probably not going to be happy but he doesn’t think the request to let the kobolds stay will be outright denied. It should be interesting to watch at least
Sesha tries to figure out what type of foodstuffs and what quantities they’ll need to keep on hand to feed the kobolds. She also wonders if Garret will enjoy kobold food.
Garret explains to the others how many kobolds he counted and raises concerns about their stables not having enough room.
Zane points out they gained space when they adjusted their tower upon becoming dragons.
Beri brings up the fact they have the ability to further adjust the tower as needed.
Wyaar is leery about adjusting the tower and insists you’ll find the space.
The kobolds are eager to bed down for the night for some much needed rest in a fairly safe place so the dragons can exit the mansion and talk with Auslander.
When the dragons finally meet up with Auslander outside the interdimensional mansion portal you see some work crews pulling the kobolds “vessel” out to the harbor and a mage lowering the stone wall back into the sea. Auslander calls out, “I say what is all this then?!?”
“Unlicensed use of stone walls to create a boat dock and a ship docked in a zone not designated for docking. The stone will have to be moved back into position and the ship scuttled as it isn’t worth the work it would take to salvage it. Plus what do I hear about an army of kobolds disappearing with you the Iron Dragons into the thin air? I’m not quite sure what the Hook City charter has to say about creation of a standing army of ignoble creatures but then again you are members of the dragon consortium and thusly knights at large so you are probably entitled to special dispensation. I might have to talk to the city magistrate to sort this one out or perhaps the high court but that could take a long time. Unless of course a Justiciar like Katinka might be able to help me sort this out in some sort of way that makes sense under existing interpretation of the law. I do have one question though, and it is oi mates you got a license for them disappearing kobolds?”

If the stone hadn't been created, the so called boat would have sunk. there by killing all of the Kobolds and that would have polluted the river. We just prevented another disaster. Ushering them into the Magical Mansion was a way to prevent a disturbance and cause a commotion which would surely lead to civil disobedience, thus we prevented yet another problem for the City while clean up is still going on. By the way, how is our new friend, Dock doing in assisting the City in recovering? Now, as to the kobolds, they are refugees from the same Problems that Hook City just endured. They may be small but they are not like other Dragon-kin of their type, they worship a Gold Dragon and have some sort of Hero Worship about The Bronze One. Unfortunately for me, they assume that means Myself. We plan on moving them into the Iron Dragon Tower, and trying to put them to work for us. So I expect we will need to get them registered as new citizens of Hook City. You don't have a Scribe with you so we can fill out around 170 registration forms do you? It'd be good to get started sooner than later on all of that paper work. Oh, and don't scuttle that boat, I'll see about getting it fixed, sentimental reasons for one of the Kobolds, I assure you. I'll cover the mooring fees of course."

It's a hassle, I know, but we can't just do good when it's convenient. We took an oath."

Beri is surprised at the request for a license, but they have just about every license there is now.
Well met Auslander. It just so happens that these kobolds have asked to serve a member of the Iron Dragons, and we absolutely have our paperwork in order as a registered organization, as an official adventuring group, and as permanent residents of this city. We also have secondary, transferable documentation allowing passage into the city from before we became residents.
Oh, we also are officially recognized as the representatives for those living outside the city walls who are needed to come in and work within the city since the Chit machine got sick, a need that's grown exponentially since the last attack.

A funny story about the problem of disappearing kobolds (DM Hugh) Wednesday September 5th, 2018 10:48:25 PM
Bosk tells the others he will be there soon over the rings.
Zane explains the urgency of the situation with the Kobolds, asks for their boat to be preserved and for a scribe to be sent for so they can start processing paperwork.
Restlin also points out the fact the kobolds were in danger and their oath demanded they act.
Garret asks if a form for licensing disappearing kobolds really exists.
Restlin speculates about a Teucri artifact that produces any type of form that may be needed for whatever situation may come up.
Sesha opines that she’s fine with another artificat as long as she doesn’t have to merge minds and kill it too.
Beri produces just about every relevant document they have to the situation at hand explaining how each one fits in with what just happened.
Wyaar wonders how many acolytes spend their days healing papercuts for the bureaucrats.
When you’ve all had your say Auslander laughs and says, “A teucri artifact that could print any legal document one could ever want? Do tell us if you come across something like that in your travels it would be extremely useful.” Auslander then sorts through Beri’s presented paperwork hemming, hawing and nodding to himself before he finally answers Garret’s question,” Well it’s a funny and old story you see back in the day post one of the ascensions Hook City, the city of magic had a number of magic acts involving disappearing kobolds. Apparently making the little buggers disappear was all the rage among some circles, but I digress. We also started having burglaries where witnesses described seeing disappearing kobolds fleeing crime scenes with other people’s personally property before vanishing into thin air. One needed not be a grand magus to see a potential correlation between the kobold vanishing magic acts and the increase in crime so the city council came together and passed ordnance 13458 dash b stroke c on the licensing of kobolds which have the capabilities to disappear. As I said an old law but a law nonetheless, then again is the vanishing an artifact of one of your spells or some innate power all their own, it seems like the law was a little vague when it came to kobolds that couldn’t vanish under their own power. Seeing as you have all these other documents detailing your status and the fact that these kobolds would appear to become ancillary members of your own organization it would appear that these kobolds would be accepted under sub paragraph g clause d of amendment x passed by the honorable Fenwick Copplebottom regarding non magic using liveried kobold servants of high level wizards. The only exclusion would be if any of said kobolds is able to make itself disappear or invoke any other troubling high level magicks then it would need its own license just on the off chance we have any burglaries involving a disappearing kobold or some such nonsense. Does that seem fair? Oh by the way that Dock creature is it is working out fine in assisting in the rebuilding efforts.”

Beri listens with interest to the tail of the disappearing kobolds. That sounds like a pretty clever scheme... up until the point where they were foolish enough to try it in this city. Vanishing or not, I'm sure the city guards had their entire operation behind bars before dinner.
We'll confirm with them to make sure none have this ability, and if any of them should have such a talent we will take them to get a license once the registry is open.
