Anna picks up the gem, which the mound couldn't care less about.

As you all continue down the hallway, the rough hallway slowly opens up into a larger, roughly rounded area. The area is about eighty feet wide and it looks like a number of attempts were made to dig off in different directions, but none met with success. There are strange striations running through some of the layers of rock here as well. On the far side of the rounded area is another door, but this door is surrounded by some sort of metal. The metal appears to make up the door frame, parts of the door, and very large sections of the wall on both sides and above the door.

this is interesting, Michael examines the striations in the rock, He's not Tinker, but he hung around the dwarf long enough to know that some striations could be precious metals. he uses all of his skills and anything he's ever heard of in any field to identify the striations. Unfortunately, in thinking about all this he does not pay a lot of attention to what he's looking at.

Entering the chamber, first thing Nicolai does is order a search for any 'undesirables'. He has Pru send her lights as high as needed to make sure nothing along the ceiling will be a threat and orders the others to make sure nothing is hiding in any nook or corner.

"Secure the premises first, then investigate the door."

Following his own orders, he pokes his light in each tunnel attempt looking for critters that might want to ambush them.

Trayvin looks for magic in the room, and finds a substantial aura around the doorway. Pru sends her lights ahead to illuminate the door.

Michael is focused on potential treasure and looks at the pretty patterns the rock makes in the wall. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like any of the patterns in the wall are made of precious materials. Anna can see right away that the door is made of a decorative mix of common metals - copper, tin, and iron.

Nikolai looks around at the short tunnels, but whoever was digging apparently decided it wasn't worth the effort. None of them panned out for precious metals and were as such abandoned. There are no creatures in sight.

" I don't need to rest either, but it seems we are going to. Let's set watches, remember that once Anna has been out of daylight for a day. it's a day right Anna? Anyway, she won't be on 24 hour watch so the rest of us need to stand watches."
" Is there any chance we are going to discuss what we are doing here while we rest? We are out from under the Giant's gaze now so we won't offend their murdering and people eating sensibilities here. Not that I cared about that in any way."

Are we judge, Jury and executioner now? Don't get me wrong, I'm the last person you should ask about right and wrong, but I got to thinking about what Tinker would have done in this situation. They didn't attack us, so if we were to attack it would be first strike, they treated with us under a flag of parley. so once again, we would be in the wrong and aggressors. they answered our questions and now we want to kill them cause we didn't like the answers? Where in this whole encounter with them have they been an existential threat?

As far as what we are doing here, we are trying to find out how they got here and trying to see if we can send them back, and also stop whatever this thing is from transporting more horrors to this place, once we find it if they decide to kill us as a reward for a job well done we can bleed them white. but in the meantime if we kill them now the report Nikolai would have to write would either need to be fraudulent or it would incriminate us so bad the best we could hope for would be 20 years in a penal platoon and the worst would be to dance a jig in Traitors square.

The Agents look around the room and determine that it may be a good place to take a rest. Unfortunately, it may have escaped their notice that the door was very magical, and once Michael gets near it to investigate, it leaps out of the wall and attempts to engulf him!

What appeared to be metal decorations is now flailing metal tentacles, one of which wraps up Michael and begins to constrict.

Map is up - Michael takes 31 damage and is grappled.

Pru is startled. "Flower's goodness!" she yelps, jumping back a bit from the door.

Well, you said you weren't tired, she reminds herself. Time to prove it.

First things first. She casts Haste on her companions, or as many of them as she can. [I don't understand the map at all; are we supposed to put ourselves on it?]

But she also wants to damage whatever has hold of Michael, so she casts a Quickened Magic Missile. The door (or whatever it is) takes 18 points of force damage.

Michael was just about to continue his discussion with Sigvar when a door tries to eat him...and does a pretty good job of it, it's squeezing him so hard he can't tell which hand is which. Eaten again! is halfling flesh so scrumptious that even doors want it?. still doors are kind of a rogues thing so he Wiggle wiggle wiggles to try and break free. it's kind of like picking a lock, only Michael is the pick, and the lock is...okay the metaphor isn't perfect. wiggle wiggle.

sorry - should have mentioned you could place yourselves around the map. Sigvar gets a single attack, since the creature engaged when Michael got close to inspect and it has a 30 foot reach

By now, the Agents are expecting this sort of thing, though not enough to avoid getting tangled up in the door's clutches.

Even if they're disagreeing right now, Sigvar won't anything happen to his allies while he's around to stop it. He charges in, provoking an attack that doesn't make it past his armor, and connects solidly. While he's ready for anything, there don't seem to be any more surprises in this creature.

Michael, slippery creature that he is, pops right out of the door's clutches, and Trayvin turns on his aura to keep them from being caught again.

Nikolai is free to attack with Sigvar's distraction and runs in to engage. He feels like his punch doesn't do as much damage as it could have.

Anna shifts to give the thing a taste of its own medicine, while Akir and Pru pummel it with magic from afar.

The door responds to being pummeled with several attacks. One strikes Sigvar 30 damage
The frame snaps open and shut on Nikolai who got himself in nice and close. Close enough to be grappled in fact, unless Trayvin brings his aura in closer. 34 and 35 damage

At first they think it's just the sounds of battle, but then Pru, Akir, Pompous, and Trayvin begin to hear a strange vibration that messes with their heads. DC 22 Fort save or be stunned for 1 round

Based on the map, last round, Pru would have Hasted Nikolai, Michael, Sigvar, and Anna.

This round, Pru Hastes herself, Akir, Pompous, and Trayvin.

Between magic missiles, sword and horn strikes, a flurry of arrows, poking rapiers, and plant based slams, the door is quickly reduced to its component parts. However, the ominous hum continues to pervade the room. Those who resisted it already feel no more effects, but everyone else feels compelled to cover their ears.

Sigvar charges across the room and easily hits it, even without Akir's help (which he's in no condition to give). It it very resistant to damage though, taking far less than he thinks it should.

Trayvin comes to just in time to release a burst of healing for those that have been damaged.

Nikolai takes care of some of his own wounds before joining the fray.

Anna bites the rock and almost breaks some of her teeth in the process. Luckily, she can grow them back pretty quickly in this form.

Pompous hits it several times, but notices that the electricity from his arrows dissipates harmlessly.

Pru sees the danger and decides to directly drain the life out of it. She's right. It doesn't like it.

Akri in in a bad way though. He is helpless and the crystals are still forming over his body. Make DC22
fort save or become Petrified


Apparently, it doesn't like things trying to restrain it. It moves 5 feet to get to Anna and sinks its rocky teeth into her vines, dealing 39 damage! She also begins to feel her body seize up. DC22 Fort save or become helpless.

What Michael says changes Nikolai's next action. He was going bring out his Steelgrass Nunchaku but that was a blunt weapon and two of these things were twice as bad as one.

"You said crystal entity? We'll have to slow it down some!" Nikolai says as he fishes into a pocket and pulls out a Tanglefoot bag.

Sorry for the delay, wanted to see if Akir was dead or not!

Trayvin haste plenty of speed with the haste to avoid getting attacked, and between the rest of the group, they have no problems beating the ooze into the ground, even with its resistance to damage.

Now that the hum has stopped, it's quiet besides the heavy breathing. Akir is helpless for the moment, but he resists the petrification long enough for Trayvin to clear the crystals off of him and get him on the road to recovery.

Behind where the large door was is a much plainer looking wooden door that has thankfully not come alive to engulf anyone. Yet.

michael probes the crystal ooze with the end of his Hookpak, making sure it's dead. then on his Thumbs instructions he scans the room. Perception 28. he then looks at the door. are the hinges on this side? (meaning it opens toward us) or are they not (meaning it opens away from us). whichever it is he takes steps to secure the door so that whatever wants to come through will have to waste time doing so. he also hedges his bet by scattering some caltrops where the door wont' sweep them away and they will inconvienence the would be attackers once they get through the door.

There doesn't seem to be much of value except the raw metals in the door, but some could certainly be salvaged.

Michael's hand slips and a needle slips out the lock and pricks his finger. Ouch! he yelps quitely, then he curses as he feels the queezy weakness of the posion take hold. Ah the fricking door was trapped and I made a mislick in disarming it... I don't feel so good, I needle poked me, hang on.... he sniffs the needle pocking out of the lock. I can't be sure but I think it might be Wyvern venom. I'm sure feeling awful puny like it's Wyvern..I'mma sit down for a while.

Anna-Tendriculous starts salvaging some of the metal from the door given her enhanced strength before returning to her normal self.

She stands a turn on watch but also makes sure she gets her rest considering she won't see the sun till they are out of this structure.

Sigvar's head snaps around as he hears the soft click and Michael's quiet "ouch".
In a second he is across the room and his large hand snaps out and touches the halfling on the head, delivering Gargul's power into him and burning the poison from his veins.
Lay on hands heals Michael for 21 points of Damage and....

Removes Fatigue
Removes Poison DC 28 and lower

Sigvar's quick thinking stops the poison from acting on Michael, but he's still damaged from it. Good thing, because it was going to get worse before it got better.

With that taken care of, the night (or whatever part of day it is) passes quietly.

Thanks to his friend's quick thinking, quick action and the power of Gargul the poison is nought but a bitter memory, the healing spells and a good nights sleep Michael feels better than he has in a while. the question of the giants replays in his head, Are the giants lives important to him? no. but its important that he not let the monster inside him have too much freedom, down that road lies madness.

As the 8 hours pass, Nikolai rests, eats, heals, and makes notes in his journal and the dilemma they are having with the giants. 'However, if we find their way back and they leave, our case against them is mute, I guess. We close the portal and that's it. It's a shame, but more death is not wished for either.' he finishes his notes with that comment.

After the night passes Anna wakes a little unaccustomed to needing to sleep. She's glad to have her Spell Like Abilities refreshed though and says, "Welp if we run into more oozes I'm ready to become a Stegosaurus again."

With everyone refreshed and ready, the Agents proceed through the plain wooden door.

You put up your light sources and push through with varying degrees of excitement as to what lies ahead. You find yourselves in a rough chamber that appears to have been used for the burial of someone important, judging by the sole occupant. The air has been cooling as you proceeded deeper into the tunnels, but it is noticeably cooler here, dropping several degrees as you walk through the door.

The place is still just as dry and dusty as everywhere else has been in the temple. The chamber is rectangular, and a solitary coffin sits on a raised pile of dirt. There are bits of debris that may once have been ornamental, but mostly it is just a dry, dusty, and cold room. There are no other apparent exits.
