Kiwina (Steve M) (30/51 HP | AC:15; Touch:11; Flat:13; CMD:18) | HeP: 2 | Status: None
Thursday November 1st, 2018 8:37:12 PM

With an unconscious opponent at his feet, and no other oponents moving, Kiwina considers how best to immobilize the bramble, or whether to deliver a coup de grace. He quickly decides against outright killing the fellow, and sets about trussing it with a rope.

Tsak uses his medical kit to see to Gothruk and Rolth's wounds, bandaging any bleeds and making Rolth sit before he falls down.

He calls to the members of the Ag clan to bring water and food for the ailing members of the party.

With Carlyn dead, hopefully her influence can be removed from this one. if we can avoid killing him it would be best. Ramsey has shown that brambles are not just monsters.

Elyas looks around the battlefield, looking for anything worth picking up. he retrieves the magic item from the witch's body and checks her for anything else. He is not skilled at healing so leaves that to the more capable party members.

Gothruk relinquishes whatever conciousness he had been able to maintain, falling into turbulent dreams of running through a hedge maze, being chased by thorny viny masses with little dwarf legs.

Why does it always have to be plants? He murmurs bearly audibly.

Friday November 2nd, 2018 7:58:56 PM

Tsak Rezar begins trying to help his allies and bring in the Ag Clan to help
Finnian moves over to his unconcious allies to help them.
Elyas looks over the battlefield for anything of any value.
Rolth Niheow falls unconcious.
Kiwina ties up the unconscious Bramble.
Gothruk allows unconciousness to take him while waiting to be healed.
Falco Ambersier takes a final couple of potshots, missing the unconscious body of the Bramble before realising the enemies are all down.

The Ag Clan comes in with some supplies to help, water and some food and medical kits, however they offer them to you to use on your allies rather than do it themselves.

The enemies are all incapacitated, either dead or unconscious, and rummaging through all their belongings and seeing what there is you discover -

Bracers with a magical Aura
A sickle
A heavy Crossbow
An amulet with a magical Aura
657 gp
Four magical oils
A bag with a magical aura
Five greataxes
A dagger
One Masterwork Leather armour designed for a Minotaur.

You still have two allies and two enemies unconscious. What do you do now?

Kiwina considers going to tend Gothruk and Rolth, but concludes in his current state this would just be traumatic for the minotaur. Besides, they are being tended. And he feels like just settling in and not moving.

Can't think like that. You're a centaur, not a shrub, he tells himself. The wounded need to be tended, and Caryln's compound needs to be investigated.

He ambles over to secure the other unconscious bramble.

Tsak is worried about Rolth. He's not exactly sure how the barbarian's rage works, but it seems to extract a huge toll on the liontaur at times.
The half orc sets about seeing that his friend is all right. He starts a fire and uses it to make some herbal tea, creates compresses for the various wounds and generally makes his friend comfortable.
Tsak will ensure that Rolth rests properly for at least half a day, longer if Rolth will submit to it, and that he is fed and hydrated during this time to replenish his energy.

Tsak Rezar attempts to help Rolth, to ensure that Rolth is healthier.
Finnian uses a wand to heal up the rest of the Petals.
Elyas attempts to look at the magical objects and figure out what they are.
Rolth Niheow stabilises thanks to his friends and allies
Kiwina goes to tie up the bramble. (Can I please have a Survival check for knots?)
Gothruk shifts around in his sleep, fighting some imaginary foe or danger.
Falco Ambersier calls all of the Petals to surround him so he can heal them.

Elyas looks at the magical objects, attempting to determine what they are.

(Rules link - Spellcraft My understanding is you need to cast Identify or Detect Magic, however I feel you would get some idea of the magic involved. It takes 18 seconds, three rounds to do a check, and you can’t really try again without something to change what you know (either someone else aiding your or something changes) I am going to say you cannot take 10, as failure could lead to a misidentifying.)

Elyas manages to figure out that both the Amulet and the Bracers have an Abjuration field around them, and that the Amulet has a more potent one. ((OoC: You’ll need to do it once for each item, and it would take you a few minutes to attempt to figure out each thing. For the Oils, you will figure out exactly what they do if you pass the check))

The rest of the Petals catch their breath as the Ag Clan come filtering back in having heard the fighting finish and that it has died down. Ramsey is amongst them and comes over to the Petals.

“Is the witch dead then?”

He asks in earnest, apparently hopeful that she is gone, anger also flashing across his face.

spellcraft of 19 on the amulet.

(OOC: still a little confused by the wording of identifying magical items. it says that you use detect magic to identify the items, and that it takes 3 rounds. does that mean that it takes the three rounds as per usual for detect magic, then i make a spellcraft check at the end to see what the properties are? or that after detecting magic it takes another 3 rounds per item? confusing because both things are 3 rounds, but detect magic could be used on many items at once, so it seems slightly different.)

Elyas continues to look at the magical items to discern more from them.
Rolth Niheow continues resting as his body is aching.
Kiwina finishes his rather good knots, gets healed and then speaks to Ramsey.
Gothruk immediately asks after ways of healing his friends.
Falco Ambersier looks over the magical items, but fails to discern anything of use.

((OoC: My understanding is thusly - You may spend 3 rounds looking over a magical item, at the end of which you get to make a Spellcraft Check to discern it’s magical properties. If you have do not haveDetect Magic you can determine that it is magical (and by extension I always say you can learn the schools too). With Detect Magic you can identify exactly what it does, and with Identify you get a +10 bonus to the check, unfortunately Falco failed on his checks to learn anything, so there is little more you can do until something changes.))

You continue tending to the wounded and looking over the magical items that you found, but finding out little of any use. Ramsey responds to Kiwina.

“Well she forced us to drink a potion of some description… though what appears to have happened to you doesn’t look quite the same as what happened to me and the others… I don’t know if there’s anyway to reverse it.”

The Liontaurs nod to Gothruk, and one of them speaks,

“There should be availability at Chessford, or maybe Wandering Roost… though I don’t know what it’d cost…”

Ramsey then speaks to the assembled Petals.

“I am so sorry for my brethren… she had us under some kind of spell… though that is no excuse… may I ask… do you know anyone who may take us in? I’m sorry to ask more of you… but… we have nowhere else to go…”

Maybe they could find a home here. We'll do what we can. . . But you -- you belong with the Rose. You aren't thinking of leaving, are you? What about Amaretto in Chessford?"

Thank you for your assistance Finnian, I feel like I wasn't almost stabbed to death a couple minutes ago. Ha ha ha!

How far are these places, Chessboard, wondering roost? Are they places we would be welcome?
Gothruk asks the Ag

If they were under spell then it fidn't cease when she fell, I don't understand Magic enough to know another way to such an effect. Maybe when I have seen more of the world and understand it's workings then I could save those folks rather then being forced fight for my very life. I shall come with you Falco.

The Aftermath
Wednesday November 7th, 2018 6:03:26 PM

Tsak Rezar also talks about ensuring the Witch can’t talk.
Finnian continues healing the rest of his party, looking to make sure they are all well again.
Elyas tries to find a break through with the amulet, and laments not finishing off the witch when he could.
Rolth Niheow seems more concerned with the witch than with anything else.
Kiwina seems surprised that the witch is still alive while he begins to return to normal, and shows concern for Ramsey.
Gothruk helps Falco search the ruins.
Falco Ambersier checks on the witch, then begins searching the ruins that you are in for anything of interest.

Upon closer inspection the witch is near death. It doesn’t look like she will survive much longer without some form of healing. She is unconscious and not speaking. Her wounds are very grave.

As Falco and Gothruk search the ruins they find very little of interest. They find some signs that the ruins have been lived in by Carlyn and her Brambles, using it as a base of operations, with a surface with a map on it, that shows where they have been causing trouble. It looks like they were planning on stepping up the attacks soon, but you have put an end to that in no uncertain terms.

Ramsey responds to Kiwina.

“No of course I won’t leave… but… my fellow Brambles won’t be welcome back home on the Minotaur isle… we are for lack of a better word, freaks. Though I am glad to see you getting better Kiwina. It is a good thing you were not cursed to remain this way. Again, I am sorry that my brethren attacked you and were so… reliant on her… it saddens me to think their minds have been lost to her machinations.”

The Ag Clan continue to help out, they move around the ruins, securing the area some more, and respond to Gothruk’s questions about how far away these places are. The comment that between all of you (themselves included) you have plenty of supplies, even though the journey will take a little bit longer with one member of your party blinded.

You need only let them know you are ready to go, and you can head off to wherever you choose.

If no one else has, Kiwina will tend the witch (heal = 19), although he has misgivings about keeping her and two devoted bramble followers prisoner together. He asks the Ag lesder, "If we left these two bramble minotaurs here, without armor or weapons, what would you do?"

As for where to go, once the ruins are explored and secure, and the party is rested, he thinks the party should head back to the Rose, and find someone who can help Rolth. (Perhaps Carlyn could, but he would not trust her to do so.)

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (24/36) HP | AC: 10; Status: See below
Wednesday November 7th, 2018 9:05:47 PM

Rolth replies to Ramsey, "I for one do not think that you are freaks. Perhaps the agency behind your change is unusual, but it seems that Domi is testing us, to see whether we will accept different forms of taurhood as one and the same. Here on this very isle, we saw young taurs who were of more than one type. I firmly believe that we are on a path to reunite taurdom, and that one day we will all be Noble again in more than spirit."

To his fellow Petals, he asks, "What if these fellows were to swear service to us, forswearing the sins of the their past, and take up arms in the service of all that is right and good? Would you accept such oaths, freely given?"

Also, I wonder whether the witch back in Pym or maybe a priest there might be able to heal my sight. It is somewhat disconcerting..."

I have trouble believing they will change their ways so hastily, they had their reasons to do what they did. My question is what has changed that would make them change their own path. If anything they would be in a better position because we would not expect an attack or betrayal.
Also, they tried to kill me with crossbows and axes...

I am not a scholar, and my travelling are only beginning can you tell me about chessford and wandering roost? Which would be more in need of stoic adventures, and which has better drink!

Gothruk helps lead Rolth back to the Rose for travel. Hopefully the Ag will show us off. He'll also steal any cooking ingredients from the plantaurs base of operations if he sees any he recognises. Perception=19, Profession Cook=8

If Elyas still hasn't been able to Identify the amulaet and bracers, he will hang on to them and continue to look at them on the Rose a little later.

"Ramsey has become a great member of our crew, I see no reason why we shouldn't give these others the same chance. they were under magical compulsion, which I know the pain of all too well...

Elyas' face looks dark as he says that. "the witch needs to be held accountable for what she has done. she has taken these Taurs' lives from them, as surely as she had killed them. After being transformed and then forced to do her bidding, how can they just go back to their old lives? We've seen just how accepting the locals are of anything new or different...

The Aftermath
Thursday November 8th, 2018 7:35:59 PM

Tsak Rezar agrees that the two remaining Brambles could be put to good use on the Rose
Finnian checks over the magical objects to see if he can figure out what they do.
Elyas express some concern that the Brambles will not be accepted.
Rolth Niheow speaks kinds words to Ramsey and about the other Brambles.
Kiwina tends to the Witch’s wounds, and inquires of the Ag Clan leader.
Gothruk expresses concern that the two remaining Brambles are not to be trusted.
Falco Ambersier inspects Rolth’s now useless eyes, unfortunately discovering very little. His eyes are perfectly functional, they are just not working. This is clearly the work of magic you know it would need magic to undo it.

((OoC: With regards to Spellcraft checks being repeatable, I have always understood it like a Knowledge check. You either know it or you don’t, repeating it won’t teach you anything new (having said that, if you can come up with a good reason you should get another check, i.e. having access to additional books/colleagues etc then I will allow a second check). You cannot discover what it actually does without Detect Magic, which is where it states you can do it once a day. If anyone is actually expending a Spell slot for Detect Magic or Identify can you state it somewhere, as so far I cannot see anyone has done so (just want to make sure I’m not missing someone saying they’ve done it.) Sorry for the wordy response))

The Ag Clan leader says that they would most likely just leave them here to fend for themselves. He’s not sure if they would be accepted anywhere as their not really Taur, or at least not pure Taur. They are all for rescuing their cursed brethren but he doesn’t really know where they can go from here.

The Witch, though she was near death is stabilised and still tied up well enough to be carried back to the Rose for your onward journey.

The Ag Clan explain to Gothruk that Chessford is the only town on the Liontaur isle, and the Wander’s Roost is a tavern within it where several locals frequent. So where do you choose to go?

Finninan please read - Highlight to display spoiler: {The amulet and bracers both have an Abjuration aura around them, with the Amulet having the stronger one. The Bag has a very weak Transmutation aura around it. Without magical assistance you will not be able to tell anything more from these items.}

Rolth recalls that he is carrying some manacles and offers them up to help restrain the witch. He asks of the Ag chieftain, "Do you have among you a shaman or priest that might heal my sight?"

Regardless, Rolth thinks the party should go back to Pym, to report the news of this victory and return to our ship. There might also be a priest there who could help him, or maybe the goodberry-planting witch will show us some favor. Otherwise, we can return to Chessford, which is likely to have someone able to help.

Tsak thinks that returning to Chessford with the witch makes the most sense and is also the best option to find someone who can restore Rolth's sight. He votes for sailing straight there on the Rose.

He's still happy to give the two new brambles a chance, but as the party is effectively two members down then any sign of insubordination would be the end of the beautiful friendship.

Finnian stows his bow in it's quiver, and having finished healing the other party members returns to Rolth.
"The journey back will not be any easy one without your sight. Please, if you will, allow me to guide you." he rests his hand on the proud taurus shoulder and will guide him wherever the group deems that they should go.

Kiwina agrees that they have to go back to Pym to find the Rose. From there Chessford would be closest, but is not their only option for looking for help for Rolth.

Based on the fact I missed it, I will say you have managed to identify everything, as between you, you each have passed enough rolls to figure out what everything is.))

The magical loot is as follows - Bracers of Armour (+1), Amulet of Natural Armour (+2), Oil of Cure Serious Wounds, two Oils of Cure Moderate Wounds and one of Protection from Energy, the bag is a magic based Tanglefoot bag.

The Ag Clan nod their assent, and will help you carry the Brambles back to Pym as needed and help maintain a guard around Carlyn, who between being gagged and tied up would be incapable of magic even if she were awake.

Your journey back to the Rose is uneventful, which is a welcome respite. Along the way Ramsey constantly apologises for his Bramble friends almost to the point of being a little annoying, he also heaps thanks on you for giving two of them a chance. He does express some concern as to what will happen to the rest of the Brambles for now, but admits it is something to be discussed with those who sent you on this mission.

Once you are back on the Rose, the two other Brambles apologise for their behaviour and explain Carlyn was controlling them with one of her magical items, that seems to have stopped working, but the last vestiges of control were still over them when you defeated her, a quick bonk on the head seems to have seen them right though. They thank you for the offer to allow them to work on the ship, and immediately get to work learning. Though neither of them have any experience, they begin learning in earnest to try and figure out exactly what they need to do, asking questions and constantly trying to improve as you head back towards Chessford.

After a the journey is nearing its end, you see in the distance the town of Chessford, and with it, arrive your hopes of curing Rolth and getting Carlyn locked up.

((OoC: Please take the time over the weekend to do a bit of RP. If you want to post more than once please do, then back again on Monday we will snap to the last scene or two to conclude the module.))

(OOC: Updated the loot sheet with the magic items)

As the group travels back to Pym, Kiwina's excitement begins to grow. It is now clear that he was uncomfortable being so far inland, and he admits as much when he mentions that his connection with the spirits is stronger near the water. Helping Rolth through the trees (okay, so he's only watching those who can navigate the trees themselves help Rolth. . .) and over the rough terrain is slow and frustrating, but that is no match for his growing cheerfulness.

While traveling, he also talks about the division of the party's gains. Without trying to direct who gets what, he mentions, "Those bracers would probably be good for Rolth or Gothruk. They are our main fighters, and don't have much for armor. . . Tsak is also a figher, and not as tough by nature as us taurs. Maybe the amulet would work better for him than for us." Personally, he would like to carry one of the potions, perhaps Protection from Energy. "In any case, all all of the magical items seem to be useful. I don't sell them."

Once at the ship, his main concern is keeping the new brambles occupied with tasks that give them no time to spend with or near Carlyn as the party sails back to Chessford. Carlyn should be bound and gagged in a secure location, stripped of any potential spell components, and checked on regularly. Kiwina stays above deck, though, more concerned with the sailing.

[b] Rolth my dear friend your wits and claws are far too sharp for you to end up like those old soldiers any time in the next few decades.

As for items I wouldn't mind that fancy Amulet, I've shared my weakness being my disappointing defence however between mage armour and that I wiillfeel I might be able to properly act as a wall. Taking hits alongside Rolth. I was going to buy a wand of Mage armour at next convenience, and see who would be able to use the thing.

As for how we could share the loot I can only think of two ways. We keep a ledger of all the loot we've got and record how much each person has taken from it, any items wanted by more than one person are given to the one who has taken the least.
Otherwise we keep it flexible and work it out as things come as we've been doing so far, it avoids a lot of paperwork but could lead to infighting at some point when both myself and Tsak really want the feather boa of piano mastery.

Rolth likes the free-spirited "work it out as we go along" method. He notes that anyone who wears armor will not benefit from the bracers. The bracers also will not stack with mage armor. Right now, of our front liners and switch-hitters, Rolth has the worst AC (12-14) and Gothruk is not permitted to wear armor.. All of our martial types benefit from wearing no heavier than medium armor, and Rolth as a charge-monkey most of all. Rolth isn't sure where all that leave us, but wanted to share his thoughts re the factors at play. Probably best for Gothuk to get the amulet, since the rest of us can eventually acquire better armor.

Finnian laughs along with the others at Gothruk's jokes and enjoys the lighthearted walk back. He takes in the sights and sounds of the forest as he is the eyes for both himself and Rolth.

"Surely we will find someone who can help heal your sight. I think retirement is a ways off for you yet. As for the loot I don't see any reason for me to take anything. While they would be helpful I generally try to stay far away from the fighting"

If they pass by the trees that seemed like the could be slumbering treants he goes out of his way to say a prayer to Maab for them and to ask them for guidance on his next adventure.

Tsak's happy go lucky nature means that he's comfortable working out loot as it becomes available.

I'm fine with you having the amulet as I spend the best part of most fights at bow range while you charge in. But that means I get first dibs on the feather boa.

Tsak wonders whether he can train Esmerelda to carry healing oils and potions to other party members as required. He spends some time aboard the Rose trying to send the cat to various party members but all he receives in return are haughty and unamused feline stares. In the end he gives up and drops a line over the edge of the boat, trying to catch a fish.

Regarding the magic items. "Clearly those items are meant to bolster our front ranks. I would take one of the oils of cure moderate wounds, if I am low on magic or the situation is right it would be good to get someoen back in the fight."

These will definitely come in handy for our fighters. we have almost lost you guys a few times already, you need all the protection you can get! the rest of us like ot hide behind you, and we need you to stay up and fighting!

As they load up on the ship, Elyas sits off to one side, keeping an eye on the new Taurs. He believes that they were acting under compulsion, but he is still concerned that that doesn't automatically mean they were nice folk to begin with. He will want to make sure they are good taurs before leaving them to have free reign of the ship.

Docking at Chessford
Monday November 12th, 2018 1:31:48 PM

Tsak Rezar spends the majority of the journey back relaxing, and trying to train his rather untrainable Esmerelda.
Finnian helps Rolth and takes the time to pray to Maab for help moving forward.
Elyas keeps a close eye on the new Deckhands, being prudent to ensure that they are watched closely as they prove themselves.
Rolth Niheow thanks Finnian for the help and discusses the loot, and notes that Gothruk would be the best person have the Amulet.
Kiwina ensures the Brambles are kept working during your journey to Chessford and also continues conversing with his fellow Petals.
Gothruk talks about how best to split the loot and how he would also like the Amulet of Natural Armour
Falco Ambersier laments his inability to heal Rolth’s sight, and hopes that you can find someone who is capable of healing his eyes soon.

As the Rose arrives in Chessford, you see on the docks as you approach Gynm, the man who sent you on this mission, apparently waiting for you to return, obviously having been told that the Rose was inbound. He waves at you all as you come ashore, and smiles as he sees you have apparently been successful.

“Well met! I see you have brought the Witch and some of her servants back! Very good! Guards!!” He calls for a few guards to take the Brambles and Carlyn herself away while he continues to talk to you.

“I see that you have decided to employ a couple of these Bramble fellows as well. I trust that you will be able to keep them in line. As for these others, they will go on trial with Carlyn. Speaking of that, myself and Chief Eldorn would like to speak to you tomorrow just before noon if you would, see your side of events and what happened, before we make any determinations in what to do about Carlyn and the other Brambles. If you would meet us at my home, we would be most appreciative.”

He gives you directions to his home and with that, bids you farewell, giving you approximately 24 hours to decide what to do.

How do you spend your 24 hours?

Why is it justified to kill a combatant in a fight, but mere seconds later it is not? one more hit with my knife or a bolt to the chest and she would be gone and I would be thanked for defeating a dangerous foe. but wait until after saving my comrades and it would have been murder. where is the line?

Tuesday November 13th, 2018 8:56:46 PM

Tsak Rezar takes the time and relaxes, preparing himself for the meeting the next day.
Finnian will also help guide Rolth before reporting to the WLA.
Elyas waxes Philosophical.
Rolth Niheow immediately goes out to seek out someone to heal his eyes
Kiwina aids Rolth, suggesting other possibilities if the first plan doesn’t work.
Gothruk looks out for some magical items and anything else that’ll help protect from these sorts of things again.
Falco Ambersier offers his voice to help aid the Brambles when they come before the Chief tomorrow.

During the 24 hours you have spare you all go about several tasks that you choose to do.

Tsak arrives feeling refreshed at Gynm’s house.

Finnian goes to the WLA to inform them of what has happened after dropping Rolth off to a healer.

Elyas thinks about where the line is.

Rolth thankfully finds someone to heal his eyes ((It costs 150gp))

Kiwina helps Rolth find a healer, who is capable of healing Rolth’s eyes.

Gothruk manages to find a merchant who can sell some scrolls of Cure Blindness/Deafness for 375gp each, there are up to three available.

Falco offers his voice, and Gynm nods thoughtfully. “Yes, I’m sure it’ll be helpful. We will talk more tomorrow with the Chief… we will have some questions that we can answer all together.

The next day you come to Gynm’s house, which is a nicer house than most of the others, and you are guided into a dining room, along one side is Gynm and Chief Eldorn, an older liontaur with a large blonde mane, sitting in the middle of the table with a cup of water in front of both of them, Gynm indicates the chairs on the other side of the table, there is a seat and a cup of water for each of you.

Once you are seated, Gynm clears his throat and Eldorn speaks, he has a low gruff voice.

“So, you are the ones that defeated Carlyn. Tell me what happened.”

Once each of you has spoken about what happened, he nods for a moment, as if thinking.

“What of these… Brambles? Or Bramble...taurs?” As he says the word “Brambletaurs” he seems to have a measure of disdain for using the word “Taur” on the end of “Bramble.” Gynm looks a little unsure of the disdain.

"What of the brambles?" Kiwina repeats, not so much repeating the question as trying to understand what the chief is asking. "They are taurs, although manipulated both magically and mentally by the witch. I could not say what they were like before she changed them, but believe they were and are just as good or bad as anyone you might meet."

Tsak, who is used to being seen as a 'half-orc' first, and Tsak second (if at all) is not happy at the direction the chief seems to be taking. He wonders whether what he's seeing is part of the root problem that plagues the taur races?

It would be overly simplistic to see the group as the defining characteristic. These are individuals. They have strengths and weaknesses, like we all do. You do yourself and your people a disservice if you dismiss them out of hand because of the group that you have decided that they belong to. Ramsey has been a boon to the Petals, as have Maurice and Sebastian in the short time we have known them. That is who and what they are, not a bunch of 'insert tribe here' for you to dismiss en masse!

Red-faced the half-orc tries to fade into the background now that he's said his piece. He slips into the (large) shadows cast by his tauric friends and hopes he hasn't started a war...

Rolth is overjoyed to have his sight back, and rushes around to every bright and colorful thing in wonder. Upon joining the others at Gnym's house, Rolth picks up where his fellow Petals left off. "Chief, I know that they are new and unusual, but the brambletaurs do seem to be taurs after all. These fellows were manipulated, magically and otherwise, by the evil witch Caryln, but are still taurs for all that. I think that these times are a test set before us, to see whether the various taurs can overcome their differences and once again be united in Domi's service. And regain our Noble status! Look at the children being born now that are mixed--strange to us, but one step closer to Domi's ideal! I encourage and entreat you to give these new taurs a chance to prove themselves. And in the process, give us a chance to follow Domi's path. What say you?"

A little bit of weariness never hurt anyone and I think this situation could use some. Less so for what they are but more so that we don't know how they think quiet yet. Carlin used Magic yes but there could be sone loyal to her. That and we have no evidence that the spells are gone. I would perhaps have them magically tested, maybe by a Paladin who can detect evil. After that I would be willing to accept them into any part of Taur society that they want to be in.
Also, I prefer plantaurs to brambletaurs, but that's just me....

Gothruk steps back after sharing his report.

Falco lets the others speak before joining in. He speaks quietly once he has the chiefs attention, hoping to tie thing ogether.

"My companions have put things well but please indulge me for one more moment if you would." he swivels his head a bit before continuing "In the Wold the biggest constant is change. We all change with time, the races change, the diving powers change and our hearts change over time. Not long ago I was a halfling but, thanks to helping usher in change, now I am what is known as a beastman.
I was wild in my youth and now want to help to better the Wold."

"These taurs were taurs and now are bramble as well. You can judge them no more on this then you can a dog by its breed or taur for its color. Palomino or chestnut or bramble the soul is the soul."

"Their actions were bad but they were not their own and we must believe in redemption."

Finnian listens intently and thinks about his own mixed heritage. He believes that the others have done a nice job of articulating what happened.

The Debrief part II
Wednesday November 14th, 2018 7:25:02 PM

Tsak Rezar gets passionate as he defends the Brambles.
Finnian remains quiet, ruminating on his own existence.
Elyas speaks very quietly of a bad past.
Rolth Niheow speaks of Domi’s ideals, and talks of how they were magically manipulated.
Kiwina defends the Brambles, irrespective of what has happened.
Gothruk admits that some of them may still be loyal to Carlyn, and even goes so far as to suggest the remaining Brambles be double checked.
Falco Ambersier speaks, sounding clever, but perhaps not having quite the impact he was hoping for.

Eldorn looks over the group, thinking deeply. But not saying anything for quite sometime.

“I was asking more what happened with them, but I have gotten some understanding. They were controlled by this Carlyn, possibly, or certainly mostly, by magic. I assume you are all in agreement with that?”

He seems to pause for a moment before taking a sip of his water.

“What of the Witch Carlyn? Do you know by what manner she used to control them?”

DC 15 Knowledge (Arcana) Check Highlight to display spoiler: {She was using the magical rod she attempted to use at the end of the battle, but was out of charge and made useless.}

"I for one would like to know more about her motives. We do not know whether she serves some greater power of evil. We also heard that she specifically wanted to kill us, the Eight Petaled Rose, and that is a mystery to me. The only motivation I can think of is what we did to a plant in the Taurnament, but that seems a rather vitriolic response. As for her broader ambitions, why come here to conquer, as her maps show clearly showed as her intention? I think there is some deeper current at work here, but do not yet understand it. Perhaps a response to the changes wrought by the Sarr? Anyway, I suggest that we find those answers before determining her fate. Absent some mitigating circumstance, however, I would not see her death as being too harsh a punishment for her crimes, including employing foul undead to attack peaceable citizens of this isle."

"During the battle I was able to get very close to Carlyn and saw her attempt to use a rod-like device. I believe it was that device that let her control the Taurs." After the previous line of questioning, Elyas has started using and emphasizing the word Taur instead of Bramble. "As the battle came to a close, she attempted to use it one more time before I downed her but whatever magic it used had run out. The Taurs came to themselves shortly after she fell, though it is not clear if that was because she fell unconscious or because her rod ran out of power. It is also not clear to me whether the rod will be usable again in the future, but that is a risk I would avoid taking if at all possible. I would strongly request that the rod be destroyed.

Gothruk too remains silent as the discussion wanders thru the details of the witch's magic.
He's feeling a little queasy and is trying to remember what he ate and drank in town last night...

The Debrief part II
Thursday November 15th, 2018 8:02:44 PM

Tsak Rezar sits and listens, happy with the discussion.
Finnian allows those that understood more of the magic at work to talk.
Elyas notes that he specifically saw Carlyn trying to use a Rod, that seemed to be how she was controlling the Brambletaurs.
Rolth Niheow wishes to take a closer look at the Witch, and perhaps interrogate her, to find out more about what she was doing.
Kiwina notes that there was definitely a magical compulsion that forced the Brambletaurs to fight for Carlyn.
Gothruk sits and listens, though perhaps not quite as comfortably as he once was.
Falco Ambersier explains that he saw a magical item, but it was out of charge.

((OoC: Sorry, my mistake, I didn’t mention it the Rod would have crumbled to dust at the end of the fight… my bad!))

Both Eldorn and Gynm listen quietly to the responses, Eldorn snorting slightly at the constant usage of the word “Taurs” to describe the Brambletaurs. He apparently does not share the open mindedness of Gynm.

It is Gynm who speaks first, and with great confidence.

“We will speak to and interrogate the witch before deciding finally what to do with her. Your testimony is appreciated, and will allow Eldorn and I to make a decision as to what to do with her once it comes to her sentencing. IF, and I stress IF it is decided that execution is the route we end up going down because, as you said her crimes are both great and grave, would you like to be there, or would you prefer to put all this nastiness behind you?”

Eldorn frowns at the mention of stressing the word “If”. A hard look comes over his face as execution is mentioned.

((Sense Motive check DC 14 Highlight to display spoiler: {It would appear that Eldorn is definitely for executing Carlyn, and dislikes the idea of her being let off with simple imprisonment.}))

Tsak is unable to determine if Gynm and Eldorn are in agreement or not. Inwardly he shrugs, that's their problem.

The young half-orc feels torn on the question of attendance at the (possible) execution. He doesn't really want to be there, and assumes there are better things that the petals could be doing. Smiting foes would be one example, others involve ale. He does however feel like maybe the petals 'should' be there as leaders in the community. After wrestling with his thoughts for a few minutes he comes down on the side of the community.

If it comes to it then I will attend the execution. Not to celebrate the death, but to support those in the community who must make such heavy decisions.

Elyas nods subtly towards Eldorn as he says: "Personally, I would see her executed. She is dangerous, and has proven herself to be evil. Can we trust that a prison on this island is equipped to deal with a powerful witch long term? If she escapes at some point in the future and kills others in her revenge, are we not responsible? Our softness in passing just judgement could cause actual innocents to lose their lives, but we would be pretending to be merciful.

If need be, I am willing to be the one to strike the final blow as I should have done on the battlefield."

Looking somewhat embarrassed by his own outburst, but with a determined look on his face, Elyas sits back down and takes a long drink of water.

Tsak Rezar responds that he would attend the execution if needed.

Elyas again laments his unwillingness to finish of Carlyn on the battlefield.
Rolth Niheow while preferring not to see more death, would come along for completeness.
Kiwina would prefer he just is told the outcome.
Gothruk remains quiet, still not looking at his best.
Falco Ambersier is pragmatic in his response.

Eldorn nods, satisfied with the answers, then speaks.

“I see. Well it is good to know you would see it through and complete the process. However, we will let you know what her sentencing is, and if you will be required, though that may take some time, so please, do not dally around here if you have other things that are needed. Chessford and the Taurs are in your debt.”

Gynm gives a hearty laugh, slapping Eldorn on the shoulder in good humour before speaking.

“I have arranged for you to all stay at the Wander’s Roost in town for free for a week until you leave on your next mission, or just until you decide to just move on, should that happen before it. Think of it as my small thanks for all your help. Either myself or Eldorn will Send to you once we have decided what to do with the Witch finally, and should you wish to return you can tell us at that time. We have friends to restore to their true natures and return home if they so wish." Kiwina talks animatedly for some minutes, "There is no lack of adventures to take before we eventually sail east to the rising moon."

All in all, it comes across that he wants to put the Rose through her paces and find out just where she can and cannot go. All of his suggestions involve sailing, of course.
