Heading Out (DM Cayzle & DM Michael) Tuesday March 19th, 2019 10:03:30 PM
Edson Kazil asks someone to cast a spell from a scroll he purchased into his ring of spell storing.
Emrys Myrridanmyl continues his research but falls to the ground in what seems to be a seizure. He is taken care by Angus and Daemon. [OOC: In the morning, Emrys, do you need to make any rolls for your chosen bloodwitch rituals for the day, if you choose to perform any? Do you automatically draw your woldsblood with no chance of error?]
Tishe awakes to join her companions and shares with them her new spell Daylight.
Brom the Barbarian heads to the homestead for couple of days. He spends time training with the kids and by himself. He later heads back to the party.
Lanliss has some interesting thoughts and wonderments, but he keeps his own counsel as he joins the party for another go at the mine.
The newly ensmartened Barratore prepares diligently as only a true minotaur can ... by laying in a solid supply of imbibables.
The morning dawns. The party gets ready and heads out. Brom and Barratorre in front, followed by Valerin and Tishe’, then Emrys, and Edson and then Lanliss.
You do not get far out of town, maybe a mile, when you notice something ... With party perception checks in the plus-twenties, these amateurs have no chance to evade detection. You see two people from the town following you as walk. They are not dressed as adventurers.

Brom leads the way as they head back to place they left not so long ago. Brom thinks of the last few days and the time spent at the farmstead specially of the oldest girl (I think she was 18.) Even with the distraction, Brom notes, as do others, the two following them. He holds up to wait for them to catch up.

Tishe’ stops when Brom stops and turns to look where he is looking. She rolls her eyes. “That can only be the Sages”, she exhales in frustration, “WLA would at least be dressed appropriately!”
She turns to Velarin, suggesting brightly: “I can Rainbow Pattern them and have them wander about looking for pretty colors for a while.”

Barratore strolls along at a casual pace with Brom when a glance over the shoulder to answer Emrys causes him to spy the two following them. Barratore sighs and stops.
He will wait until they catch up and he too believes it will be the Sages.
When they arrive, Barratore points them back the way the came. "Thought we settled this." You're not coming. If and when we decide the area is safe, we'll let you know."
Edson Kazil - Shawn R; AC: 28 (T 21, FF 20), CMD: 24 HP: 79/103 Wednesday March 20th, 2019 6:43:05 PM
Edson sighs loudly at the announcement of the sages following them. " Let them come.. I am sure they would love to describe what death is like to their guild. " he jokes a little too morbidly.
" honestly... they want to know what is going on, but they're gonna end up dead."
Velarin Xilontheel(Chris J), AC 17(FF 14), hp 130/130, extended mage armor(24 hrs) Wednesday March 20th, 2019 9:29:21 PM
Velarin prepares in the morning and casts his Mage armor and Endure Elements with his Lesser Extend Rod. The wizard nods to Edson, "Of course." and a quick read later, he casts the spell into Edosn's ring.
As the group walks Velarin mentally starts going over the runes, where the obelisk might be and what they might encounter. Brom and Barratore stop and turn and so he does as well. "For the love of Domi." the wizard sighs. Tishe's comment receives a grin, but it is short lived. " As delightful as that sounds...We may need to take an alternate stance.

Two Sages (DM Cayzle & DM Michael) Wednesday March 20th, 2019 11:06:27 PM
Brom the Barbarian leads the group. In the meantime he thinks of the time spent with the oldest girl at the farmstead. He notes the two following and stops to wait for everyone to catch up.
Tishe notes that Brom the Barbarian sees something and looks back as well and notes that these two must be sages from the WLA -- as indeed they are! She suggests to Velarin that she can rainbow pattern them in order to distract them from the journey.
Emrys Myrridanmyl muses how ‘walking is so pedestrian.’ He also takes note of the followers they have behind them.
Lanliss seems a bit more ... hesitant? About the followers, but it is soon plain that they are the sages you met before.
Barratore notices the two followers and confronts them with a Minotaur’s stare and let’s them know they aren’t welcome till the danger is clear. The sages protest that they will be okay on the trip ... but Barratore’s stare shuts them up.
Edson makes a couple morbid jokes, and the sages’ faces pale further.
Velarin does not cast any spell on the sages, but the threat of it makes them flinch.
Sure enough, you know the these guys. They are two very stubborn and persistent members of the Sages Guild that you met before. You notice that though they have backpacks, they are academics and are ill equipped for the journey on which you have embarked.
The two look at each other, shrug, and sit. “We’ll just wait here for you guys to come back,” one says.
AC 22/ T22/ F20 CMD20. HP 136/136 Tishe’ (SteveK) Thursday March 21st, 2019 6:57:07 AM
Tishe’ is relieved they aren’t making a fuss, but looks about on the open road. “Here?” She gives a jaundiced eye, not convinced they are actually thinking of stopping. Maybe give them another type of Grass... “You may as well accompany us to the last farmstead in Cinnamon Valley and wait there. While there, you could learn the local practices for... well... everything. The Valley is such a diverse group, you are bound to gain more knowledge while you wait.”
Barratore Steelwind (Dan K) AC: 32 (T 17 FF 26), CMD:42; HP: 195/211 Thursday March 21st, 2019 3:57:32 PM
Barratore smirks as the pair get closer. Tishe was money on, the sages. The pair sit on the ground and Barratore starts to feel that tell tale pressure building behind his eyes. Tishe's suggestion was all well and good, but the fighter can't help himself and takes a slightly different tact.
Barratore snorts loudly and his hand clenches one time before resuming its natural state. Taking one step, one that happens to put him closer to the pair but where Brom or Edson could 'stop him', he growls, "Did you just call me stupid? taking a deep breath, he continues, "Sounded like you just implied we are going to be dumb enough to believe that you are going to camp here in the middle of the road outside of town for the next several weeks with nothing but a day pack and no shelter waiting for us to return and not just wait until we are out of sight and continue following us. That type of bold declaration of your opinion of us insults my honor which damages my calm."
Barratore will agree to Tishe's proposal if others bring it up and decide perhaps they were not intentionally insulting his honor and therefore he had no need to defend it through personal combat...this time

Velarin picks up on Barratore's attempt at humor and smiles to himself. The minotaur might be hilarious among other minotaurs, but he is likely to give these poor men heart attacks right here on the spot. "Gentlemen, fellow sages and those of the noble race who seek knowledge." The elven wizard begins. " I lend my voice to the very reasonable offering of both Edson and Tishe. Everyone knows is it not wise to upset a minotaur and I believe your accompaniment with us to the far village will expand your knowledge of our valley in ways you have not thought of before. Expansion of learning and the Wold is far greater than what we think are the great mysteries about us. Understanding and knowledge of where and why we are and what we do that affects our Wold is too often overlooked. The Wold is a living thing where the very lands are imbued with the energies of the creatures that dwell upon it. Walk with us and stay at the last homestead."

Where those his words, he wonders! Emrys just realized he could do that ... easily. It was very tempting to give it a try. The Sage Guild wasn't so accepting of him when he tried to join the Guild. He sat in that sitting chamber all day ... no one spoke a word to him. 'Yess, it would be nice to afford them the same courtesy,' he thinks.

Tishe attempts to encourage the two WLA followers to travel with them to the last farmstead in Cinnamon Valley and wait there, hoping that what they can learn there will keep them occupied.
Barratore takes a more aggressive stance against the two sages and shows them his anger through his words and his stare. He steadies himself from combat thinking on Tishe’s idea to the sages.
Lanliss decides not to threaten the sages and decides to be silent.
Edson attempts to hold back [Barratore, knowing full well he could never really hold back a Minotaur.
Velarin attempts to remind the sages that you always let a minotaur win and encourages the sages to follow Tishe’s plan.
Emrys Myrridanmyl considers the thought of encasing the sages in crystal.
Brom the Barbarian rolls his eyes at the methods used to scare the sages and continues to the path.
In the end, the party’s ire (or eye-rolling indifference) is too much for the sages, and they just run off back the way they came -- after begging you to send word to Witchspawn when you know more and can help them make a report.
You retrace your journey, eventually coming again to the area inside the former border of the Dreadlands, where there are several villages that surround that central obelisk -- an obelisk that you have a firm idea is actually an ancient Tecuri artifact. Is it tied to this place? What does it do, exactly? The Tuecri were a magical and mysterious race, maybe the ones who brought arcane magic to the Wold. Their artifacts are endlessly fascinating -- just ask the sages who were willing to follow you into this realm once governed by undead.
So ... obelisk ... and surrounding villages. Your next step?

He gives himself a slight touch of Guidance before answering (Witch Ability), and he then says most of the phrase, ending it with "yadda yadda, yadda," not wanting to set something off. Just in case the Tuecre words of magic had some effect on the outside world, away from the shrine.

Tishe determines it would be best to avoid the villagers and wonders what was the writing on the cave again?
Barratore communicates his readiness to move on towards the goal and suggests that someone had probably wrote down the writing in the cave.
Lanliss attempts to help with the text but has difficulty remembering the words.
Emrys Myrridanmyl reminds Barratore of his sharp memory and then recites the words when appropriate.
Edson worries not about all that, but does keep a very sharp eye aroundabouts. He sees no sign that the villagers are restless.
A reminder: in what was once the town square, now mostly a worn ruin, there is an obelisk, showing fewer signs of wear and tear than the town aroundabouts, for all that you imagine the obelisk to be much the older. Veins of strange red ore run through the stone that makes up the obelisk.
A further reminder: after defeatng the guardian within, you found that the floor of the inner chamber hides a passageway down. You also learned that to open the way down, you must touch the obelisk and pronounce a very odd mouthful of sounds not designed to be spoken by a human mouth. Emrys Myrridanmyl gives Lanliss an insightful gaze as he works his mechanical magic. He is excited to see if any Tuecre magic has been activated.
Brom with V's suggestion used his sword to destroy the door. Brom waits for some interaction between the brainy guys and the elemental before doing anything.
Tishe agrees with destroying the doors. The mines are as she remembers; several tunnels to the food fungi, the forges, and the mining tunnels. She says to the Time Elemental, “Um, yes, we have returned, and we have the knowledge from the obelisk to use this place too.” She lets the Elemental to process her words. “So, if you are tied to this place, we’d like to free you.”
It answers her, "IIII aaammm allreaaaddyy freeeeeeee."
Barratore lends Brom his blade to for the destruction of the door. Once through the caves and across the lake, Barratore is taken a bit aback by the return of the creature supposedly destroyed.
Lanliss trusts his friends to handle the elemental, if need be. He looks around. There is definitely something wrong with that hole in the floor. It hurts his eyes to look at it.
Emrys casts two spells. While often one might expect a monster to take this as a hostile act, the Time Elemental does not react. Even with the potent divination, Emrys does not see much at all unusual -- though like Lanliss, something about that pit makes his brain hurt.
Velarin too is ready to fight ... but there is no need.

Edson finds no trap, but looking into the pit makes his eyes ache. The pit is black incarnate. Are you looking at a matt painted circle, or an actual vacancy? No light, no image penetrates the opening. It is DARK.
Lanliss shouts for the team to be careful. “My eyes hurt just by looking this. Is there a chance it leads to another place or another dimension?” he asks everybody -- Actually, speaking of dimensions, he thinks something is off with the pit-mouth’s physical dimensions.
Emrys Myrridanmyl casts his magical floating sensor and sends it into the pit. It does not bounce off, so presumably it is not a painted circle. Instead, it vanishes as it descends into the dark -- and Emrys can with his true sight that the pit walls fall straight down more than 150 feet. Still he has a thought and takes his Everburning torch out and gives it a toss into the hole. "It will provide a landing light, prove if the darkness is magical and or possibly set off anything at the bottom."
Barratore watches it fall, or not, depending on the type of darkness in the hole, and says, "Don't like the sound of being turned into a member of the undead club. How are we on restorations and incorporeal battle?"

"I picked up some extra lesser restoration potions, and have 9 now. That's not all that much if we meet plenty of undead. I am also not a fan of undeath, either being it or fighting it. I have a sunburst on hand, but if time permits, I would definitely prefer to swap out a lot of spells. I would take more fire, less lightning, and definitely more sunbursts. Pretty sure I won't need to bother with a cone of cold either. I may need more fly spells depending on the depth of the hole, and the number of fly potions in the group."

The entire group jumps down into the pit, and Tishe casts feather fall. You all float down 500 feet. You find yourselves in the vast chamber that Emrys “saw” yesterday with his True Sight Arcane Eye. But for now, you are in the potent, magical Dark.

(ooc: Sorry for the delay. After working all day and then coming home to saw on a dead tree limb ... my arms thoroughly reduced to jelly, I found myself sawing more logs on the couch.)
Emrys casts his True Seeing spell on himself before taking the plunge down the perfectly circular pit. (Intelligence check: 20, to recognize the holes perfect circularity.)
(Casting True Seeing on Emrys. Duration: 17 minutes.)
As they float down, he mentions this to the others ... they have plenty of time. Once on the bottom, he gives the area a good look over. (Perception: 22, blah!)

While floating down through the absolute darkness, V waits to hear from Emrys that his true Seeing spell penetrates the magical dark. Upon confirmation that it does, V will cast true seeing upon himself.
"It's for situations like this that I spend much of my free time in my library. I have three true seeing spells prepared on scroll. Who wants them? or do I hold them for now and wait until something causes the need to use them?"
V describes the vast chamber to those that can't see.

Lanliss jumps with the rest closing his eyes but slowly opens his eyes as they fall/glide down through this so called dark matter only to arrive in a chamber. Lanliss does not say anything but keeps eyes wide open.

Tishe’ gently floats down and attempts to Dispel the Teucri Darkness when Emrys and Velarin say they are within 100’ of the bottom. “We are really going to want to see what’s happening, especially if there are Undead!”
“We also don’t know how long the Pack may be bounding around down here”, she considers as they float downwards.

As they finish their float down to the floor, Emrys casts an adjuration. When they land, he touches each of his friends and himself.
(Casting Hide from Undead on everyone. Duration: 170 minutes. Intelligent Undead get a Will Save 23.)
"Mindless undead shouldn't be able to see, hear or smell us ... however the more intelligent undead may see through this ward. If you touch or strike any of them, this will end this protection for all."
