Problem is if you did get 'stuck' somewhere, we'd have no way of knowing it and no way to explain your absence, assuming that the 'see all' is a trick. Wizard Eyes, crystal balls, invisible servants, all could explain some of this stuff. A genie could concoct the food, who knows.... So best stay together for now."
Nikolai samples some fruit, staying away from the meat. If Vine stays to eat with them, he asks "All this food stuff, is this taken from your people by the master as taxes, part of your servitude?

He probably also knows we can initially in peace, trying to figure out who we were here to help and how. He will likely parlay and then make up his mind is we are dangerous to him or not, and react accordingly." Sigvar tucks into what looks like normal barracks food. He has lived as part of the Fist his whole life and that would be what he knows. There is one thing he does pluck from the pile that is different though. His one eye blinks at it as if he is sure it is an illusion. It is a canning jar filled with what appear to be candied grapes. there is lettering in minotaur on the label that says 'a touch of home'. His hand shakes as he opens the seal and lifts it to his nose. His eye closes in ecstasy as he smells the only thing he has ever known form a home he has never seen. He gently places one of the grapes in his mouth and reseals the jar, wrapping it in cloth and stowing it in his pack. You see him look at the pack repeatedly, but one grape is all he ever takes.

In some cultures, one is true to its word and honor to keep their enemy safe while in its own home. Then again, maybe this 'master' isn't the true enemy. Not all servants understand the ways of a benevolent master. Naga Guardians may not be evil, but he didn't remember hearing that they were lawful good either. Working for an evil tyrant for some personal gain or because they also are held in servitude same as the giants would make sense too.
Nikolai takes careful note of their way through the temple, just as the did when they came in and were led to the banquet table.

As they approach (ie. get within 60 feet), Sigvar gets a ping of evil, and as they get closer, the chair swivels around and the aura is suddenly Overwhelming! Sitting in the chair is an imposing figure dressed in loose robes, with the head of a tiger, and oddly, hands that face upwards as they rest of the arms of the chair.

The creature did not fit anything Nikolai could remember reading about but since his studies focused on Undead, it did not surprise him that he could not place the creature. Nikolai doubted that it could be 'all knowing and all seeing' but he had no doubt the creature was very clever.
Nikolai takes Pru's cue and bows before he speaks. "Accomplished heroes? I've never thought of ourselves as that. Just doing our job is more like it. However as my friend said, we made it to this little corner of the planes more by accident than design. A magical portal brought us here and once here, we decided to explore. That's not really considered 'advancing through the jungle' but merely following an obvious path through the jungle that someone else conveniently made. Unfortunately, being strangers here automatically means 'hostiles invading our homes and ready to kill whatever they see' to some who live here. Fear is a powerful motivator but it also robs one of its reasoning. Hopefully you can set things straight."

As to traders, I find there is little I need that I cannot obtain through my own means. But should I need something, I would find little difficulty purchasing it.
We gestures behind him at a row of chests, some of which are literally spilling over with coins and jewels.
to Sigvar: Magic knows no limits, sir. It can read your desires and conjure them for you. It is relatively simple, at least where foodstuffs are concerned. And no, I see no reason for continued bloodshed. Maybe I can even help you with what you came here for. For a price, of course.

Nikolai figures that since this creature has such great magic, and can conjure up magical food, he could probably conjure up treasure using magic, that after a while would dissipate. That is, the treasure could be an illusion. Or it could be real, if the tiger-creature plunders at will.
Nikolai explains. "Our task is to raise funds for our organization. As you see, we wear uniforms. We are not a ragtag band of pillagers and robbers. We WORK for the funds we need. I hardly think there is much you can do for us if it will cost us money, since we came here looking for work ourselves. When we were brought to your realm, we believed it was because there was work to be done here that would earn us a good pay. The giantess' attack on us was totally unprovoked and since you are well aware of what goes on in your realm, you know we tried several times to talk but they ignored us and tried to kill us. Michael remembers well the lecture that Commander Swain gave on it in her "History and Moral Philosophy" Class several years back. Merina, said that our drop out was so low because we drew in better recruits than most other armies, we do this because we are an elite regiment and we pay well. so the slackers tend to shy away and only the best and brightest have the balls to apply.

I care not a whit what you think of how I treat my minions. And I believe your minions have already told you that I will adhere to a contract, once made. I would expect the same from you, who claim to be honorable.
In terms of payment, I will give you one of these chests, and you will be happy for it. You will of course be able to keep all that you find in my enemy's camp, and while he is not as rich as I, he does quite enjoy his shiny things.
As I see it, I'm doing you a favour by even offering this deal at all. I could just dispose of you all and be rid of the nuisance. But for now, I'm still more annoyed by my devilish adversary. That should be assurance enough of his nature.

He cares nothing about your lives and thinks you actually like it that way. Right now what little value you are to him is due to the fact that he has an enemy. Once that enemy is gone, there's no stopping the abuse he'll lay on you and expect you to thoroughly enjoy it. Tsk, Tsk. "
Nikolai turns back to the creature on the throne, "You call us a nuisance but the reality is YOU are the nuisance. We came in peace, meaning no harm to anyone, and you created a conflict where there was no need of one. Your minions are smart enough to know WE aren't the nuisance around here. But, even so you are the real problem here, preventing those here to live happy independent lives, considering what you would gain in the long term from the removal of your rival, one chest seems paltry. You would gain an extension of your kingdom, a increase of minions to abuse, whatever goods come from all that, without any competition. But in any case, we don't make agreements without knowing who we are to fight and the merit thereof. If defeating one Evil means an unbearable life for those under the other Evil's tyranny, then it isn't worth it and the place is better off with two rivals. At least your minions would know you can't waste them nilly-willy because you actually need them."
Nikolai has no real problem taking pay from an Evil client if it changes the balance of Good versus Evil towards Good, but he won't make a deal that simply increases the power of an Evil client and does nothing to further Good.

Sigvar smiles at Trayvin and places his hand on the halforc's shoulder to show his thanks for his friend's understanding. Nowhere that Sigvar could remember being taught that one less evil was bad thing so.... " Nikolai, please. We are coming to terms here. Insulting our host is not helpful. One less evil is still better than leaving an evil running about unchecked." Turning his attention to the Tigerman he says. " My other companion does make a point though. In order to take your adversary down we will need as much intelligence as you can provide us with. We were able to break the morale of your minions, but only just barely as you no doubt saw. If you want the best outcome from this we would welcome your adversary's lair layout, weaknesses, number and type of guards and anything else you feel we would need to know." "Also, I am coming to realize that we might not still be on our own home plane. Are we? We used an untested item to reach you here and may need more information to be able to return to speak with you after the contract is fulfilled. Further, is your adversary on a plane other than our home plane? If he is we may need help to reach him. As I understand it he might be on an outer plane since you think we can kill him rather than simply disrupt him on our plane, aren't devils only truly killed on their home plane?" More assured that he is doing the right thing, Sigvar leans forward and shows a great deal of interest in the answers to these questions.
Belly of the Beast Thursday April 18th, 2019 4:03:59 PM
He brushes off Nikolai's words and implications so much as he would a gnat, now that there is some interest shown in taking down his enemy.
Yes, you are in my world right now. And he resides in his own. We can arrange the contract so that the same magic that brought you here will take you to his pocket dimension, and back home after.
I would not know the exact number and type of his minions, but they are assuredly minor demons and devils in his service. And while he may not be permanently killed, he will still be banished to the hells for the rest of your lives. Our dominions are not connected, and I expect that not long after you destroy his physical form, that his will collapse, so don't you fret about me suddenly gaining in power.
I think he would not have traps around, as he would not expect any intrusions into his home, other than wards on his treasure room.

Nikolai's point wasn't directed at the tiger-man creature so he doesn't mind being brushed off. And that this area was on a different plane than theirs and the enemy makes a difference too. But it also poses another problem. That is, fighting an Evil that does not interact with Nikolai's own home plane and therefore is not relevant to his home plane to help another Evil does not seem worth it. The only true thing that has any worth is get rid of both without destroying the giants and other non evil creatures here.
"Well, demons are far more detestable and destructive than your kind. It seems that it may be possible to work out a deal to defeat them. It will take some time to write it up to our mutual satisfaction and prepare for the trip. If we have your blessing to stay here while the contract is prepared, that would be the most efficient. scout
Sigvar scout Pru scout Trayvin
scout
this positon keeps the spell slinger and the wound care specialist protected and the flanking scouts are more apt to interrupt any potiental ambushes. it also puts sigvar as our Reaction force should one of us encounter something. The heavy artillery, Thats you Pru, ready to lay the smak down on the poor pitiful fools who thought they could mess with us. the other scouts fall in to enfilade the attackers and we are set to rock. distance between the scouts and the main body is dictated by the terrain. in thick jungle, it might only be 5 or 10 feet, with the lead scout mainly just hacking down brush for the rest of the party. the flank scouts might just be in line with the rest of the party...like I said, depends on the terrain.

The group of bearded devils round the corner and charge as the Agents prepare. Anna becomes Anna and steps back. Pru identifies the creatures and casts haste. Nikolai steps up and draws a weapon to defend himself. Sigvar runs forward to meet the creatures and slices into one, his blade passing into the creature with a hiss. That creature drops it’s weapon and claws at Sigvar, but doesn’t hit anything. Pompous stands and calmly prepares with a spell and an arrow.
The other creatures pause their charge now that Sigvar has appeared in their midst. They slash with their massive pole arms, staying 10 feet from him as they swing. They snarl and grunt as their weapons hit nothing but air around Sigvar. Nikolai can see now that they have taken the move that Nikolai had suggested: the enemy are in a semicircle with Sigvar in the middle! However, Michael is able to easily slip past them or maneuver himself behind any of them since they are engaged with Sigvar. As he does so, Trayvin centers a powerful blast on Sigvar, affecting all four of the devils! Their snarls only get louder as the burst blackens their skin.

The Agents scout and sneak along the path until they come to a clearing. If anything, the heat is getting worse, and the corruption is evident as foul smelling water drips from the vines. Maybe someone got a discount on the layout of these pocket dimensions. If so, then they know right where to go to find their target.
There place is eerily quiet, but nothing can hide from someone so expert at hiding as Michael, and he sees something skulking in a tree out of the corner of his eye.

He peers in the direction Michael pointed hoping to see what he sees. Perception +19 = 33

It seems that both the Agents and the Devils both realize that their hiding has failed at the same time. Both groups are just too perceptive.
Half of the Erinyes' have a chance to react before the Agents spring into action.
One directs a rope that quickly entangles Sigvar! A second one tosses her rope at Pru and wraps her up as well. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.
Another one sees Michael and tries to send him off into the woods. DC19 Will save or you are panicked, pass and become shaken for 1 round
3 others don't react quickly enough to surprise them, but they will soon.

Trayvin AC 30/15 touch Hp 106/106(BrianZ) Wednesday May 8th, 2019 8:36:43 PM
Trayvin moves up to Pru and tries to help her remove the rope. That's a nasty trick. I guess they don't like to fight fair.
Trayvin hopes someone can grab Michael before he gets too far away.

Prudence Gundle [AC 22 HP 87/87] d20+19=23 ; d20+16=21 ; Wednesday May 8th, 2019 10:51:10 PM
"Thanks," Pru tells Trayvin. "I appreciate the help, but if they tie me up again, don't worry about it. I got this."
She looks at one of the Erinyes and casts a spell. The Erinyes must make a DC 22 Fortitude save or turn into a tropical bird with beautiful plumage.
[Concentration check in case I need it is 23, more than enough for 5th-level Baleful Polymorph. SR check in case I need that is 21.]

Michael takes off running back the way they came, but Nikolai tackles him to the ground before he can get too far. Michael struggles on the ground, but Nikolai is too good of a grappler for him to escape.
Sigvar manages to shrug the rope off before it completely gets around him and charges in to its owner, striking her squarely. He notices that the silver doesn't seem to be getting through her tough skin as much as he thought it would.
Trayvin moves to Pru to help her untangle, but she tells him not to worry as she moves her hands in a strange way that looks as if she's compressing some substance. Lo and Behold, the devil that entangled her is suddenly a beautiful jungle bird, looking out of place in this corrupted land.
Anna changes back to combat form, ready to lash out with her long tentacles.
Pompous releases several arrows into the canopy, but all of them are near misses!
Sigvar's target slashes with her sword but cannot come close to doing damage. She does retreat a tiny bit into the air, working on a better position for attacking.
2 of the ones that had not had time to act before see a cluster of foes and both decide to cast a spell.
Pompous, Pru, Trayvin: targeted by 2 unholy blight spells 25 damage (3 rounds sickened) and 27 damage (2 rounds sickened): 2 DC19 will saves for 1/2 damage and not sickened
