Grindar cannot resist the sapping of the energy by the Bloody Mist and manages to miss both of his attacks. Lil also misses yet again but is making a nice flat spot in the grass and earth.
Caelwyn ditches his bow and moves to flank and attack the Bloody Mist. He feels the flanking may not have helped but still manages to do damage.
Bogby puts the daggers away and charges and misses with the claws but Wolfgangs bite manages to make it though. {ooc: Ruling on the fly that the con drain only happens when the Mist attacks.}

The mist adjusts its position and a whispy voice can be heard speaking. My creation is gone, tricky flesh and blood, tricky. I will turn you into my next. Its whispy red form continues to lash at Grindar hoping for more damage. Grindar lets the mist know that he stinks and tastes terrible before connecting with one of two attacks. Still he knows he has been weakened by the creature. Then taking Sols advice he steps back.
Lil is taken aback that the Blood Mist has a voice and and wonders about detecting evil. Even as she asks she swings and this time misses the ground completely and connects with the mist.
Xel moces up and brings some healing energy to bear on Grindar healing him and stopping the next damage from his bleeding. All this and he manages to keep his rhymes fresh.
Caelwyn, now that the Bloody Mist, is clear of its host, can see that it is indeed evil and, as previously mentioned, tastes bad. His stab also connects for further damage.
The voice wheezed again as Grindar moved. Lightning thrower, no fair moving or maybe you should move further. Again the Bloody Mist strikes at Grindar. {Hit: 19 | Dam: 3 ] DC16 Fort to prevent 1 Con Damage}

Thanks to both Lil's and Xel'Aw's healing, Grindar is feeling much better, even though his con is still down. However he was able to shake off the con attack. (fort save 21) He then says, "Since you seem to have a love affair with me, let me give you a gift!" He then unleashes another full round attack.

The rest of the team strikes hard and fast and it is impossible to say which strike, causes the mist to swell and fall over you in a bloody red rain as it dies.
There is silence for a moment until you hear a voice from the caravan shout eGood job not Keepers! You saved the day.h it is the boy who was trying to fight earlier.
The sargrass is quiet save the sound of the low chanting of the monks to the sides and back beyond the caravan. The old woman is standing watching you with a satisfied small grin.

Grundar makes it clear that Not Keepers will not be catching on as a name while Xel asks the boy who the Keepers are. He answers with a smile. gThey saved us when the crystals fell and mutated so much of the Wold. It was very dangerous and they stepped in just like you did today. I mean no offense, theyc. Wellc. They left an impression on me is all. Some were so smart and some so powerful, you are like them I thinkc. Special maybe?h
As you all make your way though the grass back to the wagon train you can see that they are hitched up and ready to go. Auntie asks a few questions about the thing you battled in its final form and nods. The old man leans in close and mumbles before poking at the red stuff covering the party members that were close when it died. He rube it between his fingers and mumbles something understandable to Auntie before she speaks. gMight have been a Vampiric Mist that got contaminated when all the crystals feel from the sky. He said the feel is right though red is odd, not sure about the ooze. Maybe they got caught by a crystal togetherc.. silly magic fiddle faddle I would say.h
The boy stays close, he give Grindar a bit of a side eye seeing that he looks less hale and hearty then before. gYou want to ride in a wagon? You look tired.h
In the wagon or not you move on the monks spread out and keep up the singing as you pass several pieces of crystal. Closer still the details of the glorious mountain come into view. The mountain is a thing of beauty and majestic and only those with the smallest of hearts and imagination would not be moved. Still you can see it has badly damaged, a large porting sheared off and blown far and wide looks like an beautiful open soar on its majesty.
The sun reflects off the beautiful damaged mountain reflecting a rainbow of colors over the sargrass for a long way out. As you move the colored lights play over armor, skin and painted wagon adding a degree of festivity by their very nature. Thich is singing in earnest now and you can hear his songs picked up by the monks that are moving towards the party to investigate. The sound travels and is louder to the east where you see hundreds of monks singing in the distance around what looks like a newly forming crystal mountain. Are theyc yes, it appears they are growing a new mountain.
Monks, many many monks, can be seen in the distance coming from the area of the new mountain towards a huge temple made of great stone blocks. Where the blocks come from you are not sure as the area does not contain much rock.
A monk is approaching from the temple, which is still hundreds of yards away, flanked by two other monks on each side. All are singing as they move towards you.
Also the melee folks are covered in red mist, now dry.

Grindar gladly excepts the ride saying,"I appreciate it, that battle took a lot out of me"
Upon arrival, Grindar is awed by the majestic beauty of the mountain, and even more impressed when he discovers that the monks are in fact creating a new mountain. He gets out of the wagon when he sees the monks approaching from the temple, and stands with his comrades, wishing he would have had a chance to wash the red mist off his body. He decides to hold off saying anything, and allow his more charismatic friends to make the introductions.

Bigby considers whether he should start a new career, but realizes quickly that "every dog has his day," moment has just happened and he will sadly not be having a career as a singer or as a singing monk.

Caelwyn attempts to sing but the sounds is very bad. The closest crystal gives a shudder as one of the monks, a rotund dark skinned human rushes to him and slaps a hand over his mouth and whispers. Not you, you can do other things I am sure.
Lil coses the distance on the monks and waits to see what they say or sing. After a moment she waves her hand in frustration that the monk have not stopped what they were doing to address the woman who rushed to them and ignored their suggestion that she sing with them.
The monk in the lead gives a small sigh, looking at the impatient Lil and speaks quietly. Come. See where we live. While you walk the monks keep a close eye on Caelwyn so see that he does not sing again, clearly his voice upset them. He looks to Auntie and says that the caravan should follow and can set up near town.
The lights still refract from the decimated crystal mountain and further away from the new mountain that is being built. As you move with the monks they lead you though the grass to what looks like a small town or encampment excepting that everything is constructed from grass that has been woven together. Most is of normal Sargrass but the most important buildings are steelgrass structures. As you enter what is clear the encampment the monks stop singing or at least rotate so only one is singing quietly at a time, it is hard to tell exactly.
The caravan is given a place to set up and the party is told that someone will be with them soon. They should look around. You get the idea that this is a functional town and things such as taverns and inns are present as well as shops. What you will not find is blacksmiths or any craftsmen working with things other then the grasses.

Caelwyn promises not to sing any more and walks in silence. Like the others he wonders about the encampment and looks about to see what he can work out.
Caelwyn doe not see a lot of sings on buildings as you might see in a more permanent settlement but there are enough indicators that he can work things out. The encampment is not big but you can make you at least wo taverns and also a couple of mess halls. Vendors are about selling various day to day wears along with some basic weapons. One enterprising vendor has even started fashioning stilts to sell to help protect the legs of those who move in the grass. The one thing that is very clear is that any conversations that are taking place are being done somewhat quietly. This is probably a habit of the residents more then anything else.
It appears you have a moment to yourself. The monks had promised you would be collected shortly, which is pretty imprecise of a time.

Lil wonders if the substance that had coated them could have brought a plague or some such into town. {DC12 Heal or DC15 Know Nature} Highlight to display spoiler: { A larger quantity of this substance inhaled or consumed could cause problems. In the current form it is probably just gross and did not make the community want to embrace you immedicably.}} [/i] She scooches the party a bit away from the encampment for cleaning.
A bit away from the general population and over the next minute or so Sol uses the ultimate utility magic, prestidigitation, to clean and spiff up the party.
Moving back towards the encampment you can see a little interest has developed by those in the town. One man is walking towards you wearing a not completely clean apron and a woman is jogging up about ten yards behind him. The man gets to you first and speaks in a low but conversational voice.
New here it seems, good good. I have not problem with the outsiders, being one myself you see. If you need a drink or a meal the Crystal Tavern is just over here.
As he speaks the woman has closed and steps in front of him as he finishes. She has long red hair pulled back and her brown eyes have wrinkles around them from too much time in the sun. Ignore him and his crystal slop hole. Cullivers is the place for a drink and a meal, I am sure you have the silver for it.
The man starts to speak again but looks closer at Lils very large weapon and decides he best not run his mouth too much.

Lil is happy to eat, twice if needed, and heads to the Crystal Tavern. Caelwyn is interested in food and drink as well. Bigby asks about WLA members so he can complete his training.
Hearing that they group is light on funds both of the innkeepers deflate a little bit. Seeing some of the group head towards his place makes the man smile. He speaks directly to Lil as she moves. Dont worry about what the red headed devil woman says about the Crystal Tavern. Were a good place and I can make a good deal for those with little coin. You look like you. he is cut off by the red hair woman.
Red headed devil woman!!!! Devil woman. she pushes him aside as she takes a beep breath I did not introduce myself. Im Edith Culliver and I have the pride to put my name on the door. the man starts to speak again but Editg steps in front of him again Dont mind Archie, he was here first and is good for the laborers. You have the look of being on a quest, I will give you a good deal on anything but meat. I went on a quest once, even have some of the most basic magics still myself.
Archie just shakes his head as she speaks but keeps quiet.
Neither seems to know much about the WLA.

So the heroes turn away from the two tavern owners and if anyone has sharp ears they can hear the final bits of conversation offered by Archie. Heading back to where you were initially left the caravan is pretty close to being set up for business. The boy, Blain, has clearly done his part and is practicing with his wooden sword until he catches site of you all. He runs up speaking quickly. Auntie says, and we all agree, that we owe you. We have food and wares, Anutie says a meal is on the house at the very least.
As he is speaking a young monk strides up to the group. His eyes briefly catch on Daphne, Blains sister, and he slows before realizing what he is doing and forcing his eyes away. He approaches Brother Flitch and Brother Attius are at the new mountain but will come back to speak with you at some point I think. Im to tell you there is a place to stay. The third building on the left it has a sign on it Important Outsiders there should be room to sleep. his eyes dart to Lil several times as he speaks and the last bit is said just to her Some of us, me, will be available to help you if you need. What brings you all the way here?

Surprisingly, she remains oblivious to the young monk's predicament. "An old dude with too much money asked us to come help establish a foothold. That's the official story. I just wanted to get out of Hook City and go adventurin'. Turns out adventuring hurts, but it beats sittin' around cleaning up ma's messes. I'm gonna go check out our new digs. Grindar wonders how she knew saying he would never have guessed the tavern owners were married. Bigby picks up that they were married and muses about why some marry.
To a person the team is grateful for a meal. Blain is clearly thrilled and runs off to get things set. As further commotion begins and some tables are pulled out in the caravan the monk shifts uncomfortably as the team peppers him with stories and questions. He blinks a few times and only gets his name, Brother Gustus, before Lil and Grindar head to check the living quarters they were given.
He talks to the rest of this group that did not run off.
An old guy sent you here? A foothold? I. well I dont think I can help with that. Brother Gustus shakes his head a bit but is brought back on track with Caelwyns question You dont know about the Sargrass Plains or do you mean this encampment. The Sargrass just came back to this plane after The Long Wait and there are not many monks left. I, well, I think they killed themselves. Umm well I am pretty new, thats why I was sent here for you. Um. he looks around and speaks even quitter Im new but there is not a lot of trust for outsiders like yourselves. You may have to earn some trust.. meet people maybe help. I dont know really. I am sure the leaders will get to you but it might take a while unless people know you a bit.
Eventually, as it is getting darker out, you see that the cravan is really up and running. Auntie has been working in her Eggs and Eel cart getting a feast ready. When called over you see several platters of foot, some bread and vegetables but the main course is clearly platters of marinated and grilled eels stuffed with an egg, cheese and vegie mixture.
During conversation Xel learns from the half orc Emrys that he has a cauldron that he would let him use since he was part of the rescue and all.
The caravan members thank you greatly and say they are happy to trade. {ooc: Connection to the Catacombs is here as well as mundane items} There are five vendors present; Wilburs Wonderous Wonderments, Eggs n Eeels, Dilanas Shalls and Hexes, Emryss Ointments and Salves and, finally, Weavin The Wold.

Odd that there's so much shopping to do in this frontier town. 'Lil briefly considers just telling their patron to come and take over the place to get out of her geas, but that wouldn't be nice at all. She chastises herself for the thought and asks for seconds.
Regarding shopping, she ain't got much what needs buying, but she'll keep the dudes company while they shop. It's weird how much attention she's getting around here. She wonders why that is...

The young monk makes a quick exit when he sees the main course. Despite being in a remote location were eggs and meet are scares the combination is too much for him. As he leaves he tells you gI will make sure you place is ready and round up the others who will be available for you.
Any who eat the unusual taste combination are surprised by how well it works together. The outside of the eel has been crisped just enough that it gives a nice crunch and the eggs are spiced well and just the perfect texture.
[b] Lil [/]b is thankful for the respite from trail rations and wonders at the amount of shopping available out here in the middle of nowhere. The caravan being there to trade was certainly fortunate as with out it there would be little.
[b] Grindar is impressed by the food telling Auntie that it is as good as his mom use to make. Bigby is a bit confused by the combination but gives it a try and, like the others, finds it delightful. While they eat Grindar lets Bigby know that Eggs and Eels would not be considered a staple of the human world though he thinks it is more a half-orc/orc thing.
Caelwyn and Sol are not as interested in the culinary hospitality of the caravan but focus on the more mercantile aspects. They find many mundane items as well as a handy way to get more magicial items that may be available. {ooc: Head to the catacombs}
While you eat Auntie smiles at the groups and asks, to the all of you in general, so what is next?
Blain, the boy, sits close to Grindar and asks what the most dangerous thing you have faced is.
Daphne, Blains sister, seems to be fascinated by Bigby and his mount. She sits close asking about how he was brought up, what his family is like, how did he get a wolf and finally does he have a girlfriend because she has a friend.
Towards the meal end of the meal the mumbling man pokes Blain how runs off to retrieve a small baked corn cake with honey for each of the party members.

'Lil's voice drifts off as she realizes they still have to walk back. Getting here was a real pain, and they'll probably have to do it all over again. She regains her composure after a moment.
"...here. Few days from here. Gotta find some druid trees, plus anything else we can figure out to help grow Rattledam. Like, opening trade with this place.
"Say, I bet you could help with that. Unless you've had enough with caravaning through the Sargrass."

Grindar gives Lil a run for her money on the food consumption, and like her, he makes sure no one is left wanting. When Blain sits down and asks him about the most difficult thing he has faced, Grindar thinks for a moment, and then whispers in his ear, "Probably Lil!" He then breaks out laughing and says, "No, no no really, I would have to say it was that mist thing we fought last. You saw me after the battle, it sucked the life from me, though I'm starting to feel a bit better, and should be fine in a day or two".

Grindar tells Blain that the toughest battle was the mist they fought at the end which gets a big smile from the youth. gThat looked bad, you guys are very brave, it is good we ran into you. I am going to keep working with my sword, be a warrior myself you will see.h
Sol eats his fill as well and listens to Lil. Caelwyn also enjoys his meal immensely but poays close attention to what Lil is saying to Auntie.

Lil tells the caravan and the young monk as he circles back a little of what they are doing. "We're supposed to be finding druid wood. We got a whole city to rebuild a few days from here. Auntie smiles at Lil and thinks. gIt is the destiny of Aunties Traveling Road Show to bring trade to new places. Travel here is hard but it is what we have to do. By boat, by land and more then once by air we have to go and trade and sell. My husband was an adventurer as was I long ago, now this is our fate. If you are building a place for the civilized peoples we will come.h at the talk of the druid tree Mumbles perks up and makes some noises at his wife. As he is doing this you notice that his lips seem to be mostly fused together and thus the odd speech. After a moment Aunti talks again. gNot many druids and trees left I think. The monks might know, Mumbles says he knows of some far far away, he thinks that was in this world at least.h
Bigby answers questions from Daphne and invites her to pet his wolf, he quickly turns the conversation away from the idea of a girlfriend to his meetin Tishef which really gets Daphnefs interest. gIsnft she the best and coolest!!!!! You know she and her friends also saved us but the spells she threw around were so impressive! She must be the greatest wizard there is the way she helped fight those diseased creatures. I want to study magic and be like her so if you find anything that could help let me know.h she glances at Sol gYoufre a good wizard too you know.h
The monks have drifted back and reiterate that they are charged with making sure you are being taken care of to some degree. She leans over to Grindar when the monks leave from their checkup. "I think they're worried about us causin' trouble. They must be on to you, dude." She sits back up, pointing two fingers at her eyes, then at Grindar in the universal sign of "I'm watching you."

Grindar does not catch that they worry the monks a little bit until it is pointed out by Lil.
Lil is curious about the mention of druid trees by mumbles, well by Aunti since she had no idea what Mubles said. The thought that he might know where to find it perks her interest but Caelwyn feels differently. He points out that the mentioned wood sounds far off and the monks may have what is needed.
Bigby agrees that Sol is a great wizard though he is a little more self effacing. Claiming that he has not made a good showing today. When offered some minor teaching Daphne beams. gIf you couldc I mean I donft want to get you in trouble with other wizards or anything. Tishef could do this neat trick that could clean things or flavorc she said it was one of the easiest. I donft want to put you out though.h
Mumbles shrugs at the discussion with Lil and Caelywn before mumbling briefly which Auntie translates. gHe say he doesnft think you can get there form here. Worlds combine at times in his mind at this point. Frankly he has always been more then a little out there, its why I love him.h

Lil whistles at the gems saying the meal was pretty great but she appreciates the gems. She along with Bigby, and Grindar are happy to head to a tavern for some drinks.
Sol smiles saying he will do his best to teach her if there is any time. He is a little exasperated by the idea of going out drinking and hopes for a quiet corner.
Caelwyn accepts the gift from the caravan seeing it as necessity for their quest. He suggests trying both taverns as the news and drinks may be different in each. This suggestion probably makes Solfs day.
Now at dusk you find the encampementfs natural quiet even more unusual. Normally the proximity of people to each can be heard at night but it is quitter here then most any place else with a concentration of people. The night is dark and lights are muted and where it lights grass walls it takes on the color of the grass used. Some monks are seen moving about, form the looks of it ending or beginning their assigned duties.
Finding the small grass built taverns is easy enough there is slightly more light and slightly more noise. From one you hear the sound of music and singing faintly, this is the Crystal Palace run by Archie. The second tavern, Culliverfs, is quitter but you here the occasional burst of laughter from the group. A closer examination form the outside shows that they are constructed of multiple woven sheets of grass, clearly to baffle any sound of merriment that is made. Neither is over large, probably thirty foot square each and peeking in you see the bulk of the furnishings are also woven, like rattan furniture.

Sol indicated the crysal palace as a place to start and maybe relax. The rest of the group agrees with this idea and so the Tale of the Crystal Palace beginsc.. just kidding its only a tavern.
As you make your way in you see a bar with a wooden top but fronted by woven grass in one of the far corners. Opposite that you see a small stage with what looks to be one of the monks singing a haunting two of lost love. You only arrive in time for the very last verse.

The tables are low so you reach down from a chair or about normal height on a mat. There are a few chairs and many matts to sit on. Beeres are ordered and Grindar find that there are not specialty drinks. A beer imported to the air is a full silver piece but a local brew, using some variation on Sargrass, is available for only 2cp. There is also a variety of wines available.
Archie beams when you come in and quickly moves shaking each of your hands. He offers the first round, of the local brew, on the house.
Caelwyn scans the area and sees the most of the people are fully interested in the singing that is going on as they drink. No one other then Archie has paid much attention to the group, clearly no one is suspicious of you in this tavern.
As the young monk exits the stage to some applause a halfling beside the stage calls out.

A fair skinned elf with dyed green hair takes the stage and speaks before singing. She carries a small ukulele which she strums softly. gA new song tonight, for someone special.h

Overall the mode is content it does appear there is a real competition going on among the various singers.

At the next table, three men are talking to each other softly as they watch the contest. The halfling by the stage asks if anyone else wants to try. If not, the judges are ready for the second round.

The halfing is happy to introduce both new contestants, making a big show of it. "All the way from Hook City, we have Grindar and Caelwyn! Give us your best, boys! Gentlemen, first I give you the world's only singing orc." After Grindar performs, the halfing introduces Caelwyn. From the back of the audience comes a muted response, "Hey, you don't want him singing!" followed by scattered laughter.
Grindar and Caelwyn: Each of you make a perform check -- if you get at least a 15, make another check for the next round of the competition.
In the second round you are facing Smith, Deke, Connor, and Chel -- including a couple of tough to match performances among them. It'll take a natural 20 in the second round to stay in the contest.

He does his best to ignore any hecklers, choosing instead to focus on his beer.

There are numerous catcalls after Grindar's and Caelwyn's performances, which the two performers do their best to ignore. After they are done, the four finalists perform, with surprisingly mixed results. Chel, favored to win, pulls a mediocre performance as well. The halfing announces Deke as the winner of the prize, which was donated for this evening by the priest Trex. Several of the performers continue with the show after the contest is over, singing for the fun of it. If they didn't already know, Grindar and Caelwyn realize they were competing with people who sing for a living.
Archie brings another round of drinks for everyone, followed by a young monk who plops down beside you. You realize he is one of the singers. "Hi. I'm Chel. Just wanted to congratulate you on getting up there," he says to Grindar, grinning. "You'll be known around here as the singing orc for a while. Anyway, didn't want you to feel discouraged, and Archie already owes me more beer than I can use." Chel sticks around for a while, making easy conversation, before he excuses himself.

"I think Bigby's right Lil" Grindar agrees then chuckles and adds, "And I'm pretty sure I know why too!". When Chel mentions the singing Orc, and Lil adds her jibe, his face turns red and he says, "But I'm only half orc". He then breaks into laughter, and adds, "I probably deserve it though after my poor showing, by the way the names Grindar, son of Grindor, well meet!"

Interlude at the Crystal Palace -- DM Steve Thursday July 25th, 2019 11:39:07 PM 'Lil builds on Chel's joke. "I am Grindar, Son of Grindor. I come wielding the mighty Cyrchwr Mawr to siiiiiiiiiiiiing!" She chuckles at her own joke. "Hey Chel, I'm 'Lil. Good job up there tonight. You come around here often?"
'Lil cranes her neck a bit, trying to see what that prize was. Chel catches on, and explains, "I'm here most every night. Normally we compete for drinks. Tonight, a local priest offered a potion he made as a prize. It was described to us as being lucky. I just hope Deke doesn't waste it to win the contest again. There's more to do with luck than win a few beers."[/b]
Bigby leans over to 'Lil and whispers, "seems like half the crowd here is somehow distracted by you. Not sure why though." He then greets Chel.
Sol complements the singers at the table for their performances.
Grindar agrees with Bigby's assessment, but also realizes why Chel joined them. When Chel mentions the singing Orc, and Lil adds her jibe, his face turns red and he says, "But I'm only half orc". He then breaks into laughter, and adds, "I probably deserve it though after my poor showing, by the way the names Grindar, son of Grindor, well meet!"

You realize the evening is almost gone, and you never got to Culliver's. Before he leaves, Chel asks whether you think you'll be here again tomorrow.

She looks around the room, catching eyes look away when she looks towards them. "Ah man, I don't need this." She looks back at Chel. Was he asking because she brought people into Archie's place?

Caelwyn nearly spits out his beer at Bigby's remark, but manages to restrain himself - he doesn't want to hurt the poor guy's feelings, since he is clearly doing his best to understand the situation. "I pity the man who might try anything with you, 'Lil...Ramona might have a few choice words for him."
Caelwyn gives a vague reply about returning next night. "I am tempted to try the other tavern as well, just to see what it is like...what do the rest of you think?

However, he was not circumspect when he asked his question -- it was heard by the neighboring tables.

As the evening winds down, you find less entertainment at the Crystal Palace and eventually make your way back to the temporary living quarters Brothers Flitch and Attius had showed earlier. Wandering through town, you encounter several sentries on patrol. More than you would have expected for the size of the community, although perhaps not so many when you think about the infrastructure to be rebuilt. Even the Important Outsiders' building lacks furnishings, although there was room for the party.
As you go, Grindar has no trouble seeing, but the rest of you have only the sparse light from torches here and there around the encampment.
