Atlas takes a step forward, as he suggests not wasting arrows or spells and just wacking the thng.
Armand and Owen agree with Atlas.
Elyngael takes that as her ques, and charges forward, with Brawn at her side. As she swings her sword, and Brawn lunges in to bite, the blade and teeth seem to pass right through without hitting anything. However, the shock on Elyngael's blade, does electrocute about half of the remaining bats, and the flame on Brawns bite burns the rest. (Diminutive and smaller swarms are immune to all weapon damage, but the elemental add-ons still apply.) With the final swarm down, one might ask,"What is the next move for our bold heroes?", we shall see, we shall see.

Neshi comments on the malnourished state of the dead bats.
Armand suggests that they let the trackers do their thing
Like Vamir, Elyngael assisted by Brawn, notice the tracks leading deeper into the mine.
Owen lets the trackers do their thing.
********************************************
As Elyngael, Brawn, and Vamir follow the tracks, they soon lead the Wardens into an area with many other passages. These passages are much smaller then the main tunnel, only 10ft diameter. Our amazing trackers notice that on all these off-shoots their are tracks both coming and going, but the tracks on the main tunnel seem to head deeper in, with none returning. As this is taking place, everyone hears the voice of a male child yelling, "Somebody! Help! Anybody?” followed by the sound of sobbing, and then silence. The voice seems to be coming from deeper within the mine, along the general direction of the main tunnel.

Atlas starts at the sound of the child yelling for help. "This must be what they were hearing. I wonder if it is real. It gives me goosebumps. If they are alive we need to find them quick. It has been too long already, so I hope they have a water supply. "
DM Jeremy Battle Map Thursday July 25th, 2019 6:07:22 AM
Armand asks if Vamir or Elyngael see a child's footprints among the adults. The answer is inconclusive, one may assume that may be due to the number of prints. When the voice sounds off, he 1st confirms that everyone heard it, then he shouts back a response, asking who's there, but receiving no response.
Vamir doesn't necessarily trust the voice to be genuine, and fears a trap. He suggests they stay on guard.
Elyngael uses her special ranger training to try to perceive more information, but there doesn't appear to be any to glean at the moment. She then has Brawn use his mighty sniffer to track the child. Brawn easily picks out the scent of the boy, and leads the party strait ahead.
Owen is wary as well
Neshi verbalizes what most probably assumed about the tunnels, and suggests continuing forward.
Atlas wonders if the voice is real, as he realizes that this must be the voice people keep hearing. Out of fear for the well being of the lost people, he urges haste.

The Wardens continue down the tunnel following after the voice, and Brawn's nose. They don't travel to far before they come to a section where the tunnel has collapsed. Large boulders block most of the passage, leaving only a 5ft walkway that snakes through the rocks. Neshi and Brawn can squeeze through the passages, but it will take considerably more time. (movement is 1/2 normal when squeezing., also you take a -4 on attack rolls and AC) Elyngael and Vamir verify that the footprints lead this way, as does Brawn's nose.

Neshi realizes it's going to be a tight squeeze, but he should be able to make it. he suggests he sticks to the middle since he won't be able to do much while navigating the boulders.
Armand suggests Elyngael goes first as she has darkvision goggles, he then suggests using a rope to help avoid a trap.He asks if there are any spelunkers in the party, and is pretty sure the tunnel collapse is a natural occurrence.
Vamir is willing to go in any order the others seem fit, and confesses he has no caving skills.
Elyngael shares that she does have some spelunking skills, and she is also pretty sure the collapse is natural. She's worried that Brawn won't fit, though she's pretty confident she will have no problem. (Brawn will fit, but will have to squeeze like Neshi, which will force him to move at 1/2 speed, and take a -4 on attack rolls and AC. I will require a DC15 handle animal to convince the large dog to squeeze through the small area, however you do get a +4 bonus, because of the link animal companion ability.)
Owen is ready to fry any threats, and is also convinced the collapse is natural.
Plans are forming, but don't seem to be finalized, as the large members of the party pose a minor inconvenience, which no doubt is causing some of the difficulty. However, their is no other way at the moment, and as far as everyone knows, based on the surprisingly vast amount of dungenerring skills within the Wardens, they shouldn't have to difficult of a time, unless, like your humble narrator, they are claustrophobic. Vamir jumps into line listening intently and showing a little false bravado.
Elyngael is having none of the Atlas going first thing. She is convinced that her Ranger skills are what is needed to lead the party, she says she will lead, and Brawn will take the rear position, as she enters the collapsed area,
Armand is at first concerned, then amused by the back and forth between Atlas and Elyngael, he takes Elyngael's action as the final word, and then combines Atlas's and Elyngael's marching order ideas vowing to not get to far ahead. He doesn't think a rear assault is very likely.
Neshi gives himself the "what were you thinking?" slap, and then turns himself into a medium sized fire elemental, which will make travel vastly easier for him.

Our adventurous heroes enter the collapsed cavern area, and after ten minutes or so of wiggling, climbing, and in some cases squeezing, the Tree Wardens safely emerge on the other side of the collapsed area, only to be confronted by yet another obstacle. The tunnel comes to an abrupt halt and yawning in front of them is a 15ft diameter shaft going strait down. There is evidence that some sort of lift device had once been here. but all that remains now is a very old looking rope. Elyngael's goggles, Owen's darkvision spell, and Neshi's fire elemental form give them the ability to see 60ft in the dark, but they still are unable to see the bottom of the shaft. A DC 15 engineering check on the rope reveals, Highlight to display spoiler: {The rope is sound in spite of it's age, however, it will only hold 500lbs safely. Atlas burns inside, angry that El would put herself at risk like that for no reason. His anger builds as they traverse the tunnel. When he gets to the end he cannot help himself, "El, you cannot go running off like that. We all have roles and you just took mine, putting all of us at greater risk. Maybe if we were going to wait here and you could turn back and run from trouble, but since we were all behind you there was no turning back. We could have lost you for no reason. We have to be smart, otherwise we'll be dead." As he finishes he shoots Armand a grumpy look, but keeps talking to El, "Someone a bit more wise than me taught me that, and while it burns my britches, I learned the hard way that he was right."
Having said his peace, his emotion drops to a low simmer and he inspects the situation. "That rope will hold quite a bit, at least one or two of us at a time." Then when Neshi fires up he dodges to the side a bit, "Can you fly in that form? If so, maybe you can just go check it out for us? DM Jeremy Battle Map Tuesday July 30th, 2019 6:10:24 AM
Armand mildly berates himself for not preparing airwalk. He examines the rope and finds it to be sound up to 500lbs, however he is convinced that a mending spell or the like could return it to it'd original strength (the lift is gone, there is only evidence that it was once there. Things like holes where supports would have been bolted to the rock and the like lead you to the conclusion) He offers his rope asking if anyone has any to add, and then casts light on a rock before dropping it down the shaft.
Atlas is angry with Elyngael for insisting on leading the party through the tight area, and gives her a piece of his mind, making sure to explain why he feels the way he does. After he cools down a bit, he examins the rope and draws the same conclusion as Armand. after jumping out of the way, he asks Neshi if he can fly in his new fire elemental form, and suggests that Elyngael go down first to scout ahead.
Neshi informs Atlas that Fire elementals can't fly, and now he is concerned with what effect his new form will have on the rope.
Vamir offers to add his rope, and claims he forgot his broom at home. He asks his cauldron if it senses anything within 60ft, and the cauldron ansswers in the negative.
Elyngael is as angry with Atlas as he is with her, She feels he has basically called her a coward, and informs him that as a Tree Warden it is just as much her responsibility to go into harms way as anyone else, and that she will not run away from danger. She simmers down enough to see the sense In her scouting ahead, and shares that with Atlas, as she offers up another 50ft of rope.
Owen is a bit surprised by Atlas and Elyngael's anger, but instead of saying anything, he offers a simple solution to the problem facing them ***Feather Fall***.
As Armand's lighted rock falls down the shaft everyone who cares to look discover that the rock fell approximately 75ft before landing on the ground below. The torch like light of the rock dimly illuminates the bottom of the shaft and it revels another tunnel heading in approximately the same direction as the one you have been traveling on. Will Elyngael scout ahead, or will all the Wardens just gently descend on the feather fall courtesy of Owen.

Please know that it got the best of me because of my worry for you and this group, not because I doubt your skill in any way. Our survival depends on each of us fulfilling our roles, but also letting others do theirs. Peace for now, then we can have it out like siblings later?" He cracks a grin, "I wouldn't trade this family for the world, so you're stuck with me El. Or should I call you sister going forward?" His grin widens, hoping she knows it is out of brotherly love and not anything ill willed.
Atlas then agrees to Armand's plan, with no current idea on what to do about getting Brawn back up when the time comes.

She turns to Atlas, "You're right. I've never had anyone but my parents to count on, so this is all new to me. I'd be honored to consider you the brother I never had, if you'll excuse my touchy temper?" She holds a hand out to Atlas for a truce.
DM Jeremy Battle Map Wednesday July 31st, 2019 6:00:47 AM
Armand wants to make sure that they have a way back up the shaft for the return trip. By the light of the rock down below, he can tell that the rope goes all the way to the bottom of the shaft, though he wonders how they will get Brawn back up.
Atlas apologizes to Elyngael and explains that his anger was caused by his concern for her well being, and in a much calmer tone tries to explain that everyone has their role to play, for the good of the team, or in this case, family. He then calls her his sister, and asks if she is cool with that.
Neshi considers tying two ropes together, which would leave plenty to make a harness for Brawn. A good idea since the current rope may not hold the horse sized dog.
Owen would rather rely on magic to get down and back up worried that any escape route the leave themselves, an enemy could also use, you know like the rope that is already there. ;)
Vamir offers a novel idea, instead of a harness, just tie a rope to the bail of his cauldron, and hoist him up. Now that's thinking outside the box! He and his cauldron try to peer into the darkness, but from this far up, the angle only allows them to see a few feet down the tunnel at the bottom, and that is illuminated by Armand's rock at the moment.
Elyngael laughs at how well their collective mind works and suggest doing all the above, even joking that Brawn may be the first wolf to ever ride in a cauldron. She excepts Atlas's apology, as well as his brotherhood, claiming to be honored to call him brother if she is cool with a sister with a touchy temper.

Multiple plans have been made, Owen will get everyone safely to the bottom, using feather fall, so the only question that remains to be answered is the question of the rope and the return trip. Does our family of heroes leave the current rope, add a new rope, or remove the ropes all together? The answer to that question is surely soon to be answered.

Armand makes the final decision for the team, saying leave the old rope and let's just get to the bottom as a group.
Elyngael wonders how the feather fall spell works. She is looking forward to the sensation of falling without getting hurt afterwards. she is eager to get going, and hopes to return with at least one other person.
Vamir thinks his mother would find the idea of a wolf riding in her cauldron funny. He is ready for the feather fall spell, and shrinks his cauldron so he can carry it, allowing the pots senses to help detect problems.
Owen casts his Feather fall spell, on the Wardens.
*****************************************
One by one, Owen casts feather fall on the Wardens, and one by one they jump down the shaft only to land lightly on their feet at the bottom. Much to their surprise, nothing jumps out at them as they reach the bottom, and so our band of heroes continues further into the mine. Vamir easily notices the footprints indicating that they are heading in the right direction. You soon realize that tunnel is gradually narrowing, until you reach a spot that is only 3ft wide. Small and Medium sized creatures will be forced to squeeze down the passage, which remains at the 3ft width for as long as 60ft of darkvision will show. Squeezing cuts your speed in half, and inflicts a -4 penalty to Attack rolls and AC. Large creatures can still travel through, as long as their head fits, and we will assume it does, but they will have to make a DC 30 escape artist check. Here are the official rules for this, feel free to take 20 on the rolls if needed.
The DC noted is for getting through a space where your head fits but your shoulders don’t. If the space is long you may need to make multiple checks. You can’t get through a space that your head does not fit through.
Action Squeezing through a tight space takes at least 1 minute, maybe longer, depending on how long the space is.
Retry? Yes. You can make another check after a failed check if you’re squeezing your way through a tight space, making multiple checks. If the situation permits, you can make additional checks, or even take 20, as long as you’re not being actively opposed.
Modifiers Feat If you have the Stealthy feat, you get a +2 bonus on Escape Artist skill checks. If you have 10 or more ranks in Escape Artist, the bonus increases to +4

Armand casts light on a crossbow colt and has Elyngael fire it down the narrow tunnel after padding the tip as per Neshi's suggestion. he then offers to drink a potion of gaseous form to investigate the tunnel.
Neshi likes the idea, but as mentioned suggests padding the tip so as to not hurt anyone accidentally.
Atlas is thinking fondly of the exchange between Elyngael and himself, and he is about to approach Elyngael to ask for her opinion on the situation, but Armand speaks up first, and he likes Armand's plan.
Elyngael is confused by the narrow tunnel, to her it doesn't make sense in a mine. she wonders if they are missing something.
Vamir is also confused. He can't understand how a child could have traversed the same obstacles that they have without getting hurt. He gets down on his hands and knees to better examine the foot prints that obviously lead into the narrow passageway.
By the light of the crossbow bolt, the Wardens are able to ascertain that the passage remains narrow for about 100ft, before it abruptly opens into a 10-15ft wide tunnel. In his and Elyngael's confusion, Vamir decides to take a much closer look at the tracks they have been following, and discovers something that would have been easily missed in the dim light, without a close examination. scattered among the tracks of the rescuers, are what appear to be tracks made by heavy boots. A DC 30 knowledge local Highlight to display spoiler: {The boot prints appear to be made by boots that resemble dwarven manufacturing.}

Why don't we give it a few minutes to make sure no one pokes their head into the light, then send El down, leaving the tunnel free in case she needs to retreat. If it's clear then we can all go. "Vamir have you tried to use your caldron to look back to the village from here? Is scrying being blocked both directions now? Maybe there's another mineral in the mine blocking things."
He looks down the hole again. "Okay, let's save the potion for now." He turns to Elyngael. "Do you want us to rope you off and then try the hole?"
OOC to DM. (1) Correct me if I'm wrong but from reading your text, humans/medium can squeeze as normal down the tunnel. (3) Could I use the anything potion to emulate a druid's 2nd level reduce animal to get Brawn through?
DM EDIT: Yes small and medium creatures can use standard squeeze rules, only large creatures need to use the escape artist rules, and yes, you can absolutely feed Brawn the potion, and an Anything Potion can replicate any spell other than AOE spells. Atlas suggests Armand hold of on drinking the potion. He agrees with Vamir that Tristan wouldn't have come this far by himself, and fears that someone or something grabbed him and most likely the rescuers as well. He suggests waiting a bit then sending Elyngael to scout ahead, and if the coast is clear, then he will lead the party through the narrow passage.
Armand agrees with Elyngael and fears what may be next. He asks Vamir if the scrying works towards the village, wondering if minerals in the mine might be blocking the signal. He decides that Atlas may be right about and asks Elyngael if she wants to be tied off or not.
Neshi adds his flaming body to the dim light increasing the illumination a bit.
Owen can't put his finger on the maker of the new prints, but they do seem semi familiar, and he asks if anyone else has any idea as to who may have made them. He then suggest that the squeeze through, get the lay of the land, and then squeeze back and teleport everyone over to the other side.
Elyngael feels she would have no problem squeezing over to scout ahead, she would like it if Brawn could somehow magically join her to sniff for the child. She makes it clear that she only intends to travel enough to reconnoiter, then return with her findings, but she wants to make sure everyone is OK with her going first.
Vamir lets Owen know that he won't be of any help identifying the boot prints, and informs Armand that it would take an hour to try scrying. He feels moving quickly through the narrow passage is the wisest choice. (OOC... What is the total range of Vamirs cauldron's senses?)

After a brief time, the remaining Wardens see the light return indicating that the pair had made it to the other side.
As Elyngael and Brawn enter the narrow passageway, they discover that the going isn't nearly as troublesome as the had expected, well, with Brawn's new size anyway. They still have to squeeze, but the walls are relatively smooth, making the going far less abrasive, as they slide along the walls heading down the tunnel. On the other side, Brawn is able to pick up Tristan's scent again, as Elyngael gives a look around. Some try their knowledge of nature and dungenering, only to conclude that no animal or creature, well none that uses natural means anyways, did this. Some try to use their knowledge to search for any clues as to a natural force, only to be befuddled. The mystery seems unsolvable, until Vamir finds a clue as he is following the tracks. He notices two things. First the tracks are all made by normal walking, not the side to side movement required to squeeze though, and second many of the footprints are cut in half by the walls, as though the walls weren't there when the rescuers came through.

Atlas keeps his eyes and ears open hoping to not be caught flat-footed from an enemy.
Neshi agrees that the tunnel is unusual, but wonders how this helps find Tristan and presumably, his rescuers.
Vamir shares his discovery, and looks for slide marks.
Armand tries disbelieving an illusion
Owen touches the wall and examines them carefully.
Elyngael is convinced that this odd tunnel is important, and believes it wise to gain some understanding before moving on. She asks Brawn to scent for others.

With Vamir's discovery, forward motion has come to a halt, as our heroes do their best to unravel the mystery. Armand suspects an illusion and does his best to see through it, but to the best of his knowledge the stone walls are in fact stone walls. Vamir searches for slide marks, and though he doesn't find any, he does find areas where the walls had apparently pushed up piles of dirt, as though they moved. Owen touches the cold stone and does his best to seek a visible answer but only finds what Vamir has already discovered. Elyngael has Brawn search for other scents besides Tristan's, and he easily find many different scents, but without a control, like Tristan's shirt, he isn't sure where to start. He does however indicate that all the scents go in the same direction, which is deeper into the mine. Will our heroes discover the mystery, or will the chalk it up to an oddity and move on as Neshi suggests?

DM Jeremy Battle Map Friday August 9th, 2019 6:04:10 AM
Our intrepid heroes decide the mystery of the narrow passage will have to wait as they press forward. The Wardens exit the narrow passage without being molested, and come to an area with a few tunnels branching off from the main tunnel. Unlike before, these extra tunnels have no tracks leading in or out, all the tracks continue forward, and Brawn's nose confirms this as well. It's as if they knew where they were going, or they were being guided. Shortly after passing the extra tunnels, they find themselves in an area of tunnel works that zig zags back and forth with multiple switchbacks. It's obvious that this tunnel was carved as it followed the platinum vein, which explains the erratic nature of the passage. Not long into the erratic tunnels, Vamir's cauldron tells everyone that it senses movement coming from both ahead and behind. Of course due to the nature of the passage way, you can't see the intruders yet, but you are pretty certain based on the cauldron's observations that they are heading your way. I'm assuming that the reduce animal was dismissed on Brawn after exiting the narrows. Feel free the shrink him and use the adjusted stats caused by the spell if you wish to keep him medium for the moment. I'm also assuming that Neshi is still a medium sized fire elemental, again feel free to adjust the map accordingly if my assumption is wrong. You should all have editing rights.
OOC.. I think the cauldron really should have a name, it is an intelligent item after all, also it adds a little more flavor to the story when we personalize things instead of keeping them generic. Just my 2 cents not a DM mandate.

He throws the torch on the ground next to him so he can hold his shield and sword without being encumbered. "It won't get by me. Neshi, you have the rear? Is there anyone other than Brawn that doesn't have a ranged attack? Please just don't hit me, that's all I ask."
Atlas moves out a little to give others room, then holds his ground, waiting to see what comes around the corner.

Atlas is taken aback when Vamir's cauldron speaks, and cracks a joke about this being something one should mention over drinks. He prepares his sword and shield, and prepares to halt any assault from the incoming threat. He does ask that anyone with ranged attacks to refrain from hitting him, and whether or not Neshi has the rear.
Neshi confirms that he does indeed have the rear covered, than completely covers it with a 12in thick sheet of ice, completely blocking off the 5ft by 15ft tunnel. OOC...Kent, I'm assuming that you cast Wall of Ice, but in the future could you please mention the actual name of the spell in your post, it simplifies things a bit on my end, if the spell was something other than Wall of Ice, please let me know. Also you don't currently have a link to your character sheet in your header, if you could fix that, that would be awesome, thanks.
Vamir smiles at Atlas's reaction to his cauldron, then introduces Zaita to his friends. Zaita informs everyone that it doesn't sense any emotions coming from the new possible threat, but that her blindsense defiantly reveals two large creatures approaching.
Armand isn't sure how much help he will be in a fight in these tight quarters, so he holds his glowing glaive aloft like a torch.

Elyngael release a storm of arrows into pudding 2.
*******************************
Between Elyngaels arrows, and Atlas's melee assault, pudding 2 begins to ripple and bubble, almost like it's about to begin boiling over, only this is happening all over its liquid body, until with a loud pop, the thing explodes, creating a harmless shower of slime that covers the floor, the ceiling, the walls, and Atlas. Mean while, stone pudding 1 continues to slam Neshi's Ice Wall, leaving it looking like a smashed wind shield, yet somehow the thing is still holding together, though barely.

I don't think you need to cast Stone Skin on Armand, he is not going to engage it hand to hand, he's got spells lined up.
"Don't worry I don't really want to go up there." Armand tells Neshi. "If it breaks through I'm going to put Spirital Weapon on it and start backing away. Maybe some Searing Light as well since that is actually holy damage and not fire damage."
Armand has his spell ready to go as soon as the Ice Wall gives way.

As the pudding explodes and covers him he laughs at the scene. Unfortunately, as he laughs some of it manages to get into his mouth. Whether it dripped from his nose or fell from the ceiling it doesn't matter, he just knows it tastes terrible! He begins spitting and sputtering like someone that just realized they drank pee. Once he's done making a scene he yells up to the group, "Don't let the name fool you, it doesn't taste like pudding at all!"
As he recovers, a feeling of helpless creeps in as he realizes that he is unable to help his friends on the other end of the tunnel. However, he trusts that his friend's abilities can handle the threat, so he holds to his job keeping watch and protecting this end of the tunnel.

Neshi warns everyone not to get in front of him, because he has a surprise for the stone pudding.
Vamir let's Neshi know he understands, He is finally ready.
Elyngael would like to move forward and ready a barrrage of arrows, but due to the windy nature of the passageway, and the fact that she can't get by her furry friend, who is squeezing his way as they go, she finds it impossible to get line of sight.
Armand has some spells at the ready, and lets Neshi know he doesn't plan to get cozy with the stone pudding.
Atlas is a mess, and lets his friends know that stone pudding should not be on the menu. Knowing that he can't get to the front line to fight the other stone pudding, he stands guard where he's at. OOC...I laughed out load when I read your post!
Spider Owen gets into position and keeps magic missile ready.

With a final loud thud, Neshi's Ice wall begins making it's own noise slowly at first, than more rapidly, the ice starts making that crackling sound that ice makes as it is braking up. The ice starts to give way, at first it's just a small hole which the stone pudding seems to be peering through, if it had eyes, almost as if to say, "Here's Johnny!" then it falls in a pile of ice cubes. As the stone pudding moves into the area that once held Neshi's wall it suffers 18 damage from the lingering cold. Vamir and Armand wanted to see what these things look like, well they finally get their chance.

While he awaits a reply he continues to work on getting the pudding off of himself. It appears that he's wasting his time, making more of a mess than he started with, but he's a bit stubborn sometimes.

Atlas is worried about his friends , and trying to get the stone pudding slim off him, but failing miserably.
Armand hits the pudding with the Light of Gargul, and suggests making a retreat as they continue to attack it.
Elyngael reassures Atlas that they are all OK, and lets him know that Brawn and herself are heading his way.
Vamir decides to make a slight retreat, and asks Ziata if she senses anything else coming. Ziata reassures her master that, at the moment anyway, the only threat is the pudding.
Owen fires off a barrage of magic missiles
***********************************
In spite of the heavy barrage of spells directed at the stone pudding, the thing still clings to life, which for a mindless ooze must be more of an existence then truly living. The stone pudding reaches out a tendril composed of it's semi liquid body material, and slams Neshi with an unconfirmed natural 20, inflicting 10 bludgeoning damage, and 2 acid damage. Neshi is also grappled by the slime, and the slime constricts its body around Neshi inflicting another 11 bludgeoning damage and 1 acid damage. The acid instantly destroys any clothing, or none metallic items he may be holding/wearing, but since he is currently polymorphed, that isn't a problem. (the acid damage bypasses any DR, but the bludgeoning damage only bypasses DR/bludgeoning)
