Tombo grins and nods his head in appreciation, "Thank you sirs, I really believe having a direct exterior door in the Buttering Ram will help to bring folks in. I have a guy and we'll get right on it." Tombo ducks back into the crowds of the morning with a spring in his step
The Tide hang for the day and discuss quickly if everyone is going to see Three Bits. Toston recalls the invite was for the entire Tide. Hmerrin gets the door installed and leaves a note
Evening arrives and shortly after dinner, The Tide is ready to head to the meeting with Three Bits. As the group heads down the main avenue and into the now closed up Full Moon Market, Alarm Bells ring through the early night. The bells are unique in pitch and tone. Peeling with a high ringing in an allegro beat and sounding in forte with a second deep bass bell ringing in an off beat slower measure. These bells are unique and their cry means one very dangerous thing. There is a fire!
The party can see the glow in Backstab quarter a few hundred yards of winding streets away and it is substantial.

The Block, The Block.... -DM Dan K Thursday September 12th, 2019 10:51:31 PM
Toston cast Mage armor and heads towards the fire Wil casts Shield of Faith and follows the rest of the group follows and it takes about 10 minutes to make to the blaze. Toston, Hmerrin and Wil all have a feeling of dread as they move through the streets. Allies and paths that are familiar and making the last bend in the road their concern is confirmed. House Marsh and most of the block to which it is connected is ablaze.
The fire already engulfs multiple buildings and the closely packed area certainly allows one to thing the entire quarter could be lost
Gaffer brings in 3 water elementals. Can the druid speak to the creatures? Can he ask them to step into the pain that awaits in the fire?
Tosotn has cast Resist Fire upon himself and the gnome is pretty sure that even with the protection, going into the blaze is not going to be easy.
Desichado also has a Resist Fire at the ready
Sarge looks to cast Create Water and while it will help, it is definitely not going to put out this massive fire
Several others are out and have formed a bucket brigade, doing what they can to not only put out the fire, but to try and soak the nearby buildings that are not on fire already to protect them. In all approximately 30 other citizens of Dirt City are out at this hour to help. Several cries are hear inside and backed up by some of the men and women in the bucket brigade mention that some citizens are in the burning houses

The group stands only for a moment before the blaze before springing into action.
Des casts Resist Fire upon himself, charges in and easily through what is left of the front door. (it will take Des 1 round to find someone, being able to quickly hear them through the roaring flames. Wil casts Magic Vestment on Des and follows the paladin in Hmerrin heads is as well and the young fighter quickly looses about everything in the smoke and roar of the fire. Were he not right with Wil and Des, he'd be lost and he knows it. A portion of the ceiling gives way above Hmerrin, Des and Wil. A draft pumps the area like a bellows in a forge and the temperature sudden flares. Quick reactions from the trio prevent and harm to themsleves or the pair they found. The three men insde have found the unconscious forms of two men in an off parlor room. Des hears a cry from further in and upstairs. It took about 10 seconds to get in and the smoke is starting to work its way into Wil's lungs
Toston heads in and breaks left instead of following the others. A few fallen beams clutter the ground, but he heard others this way. A rumble from the rightsends a flare of superheated air and flame at the gnome, catching his clothes on fire. Ahead in the back library, the sharp senses of the gnome picks out a prone figure, under a partially collapsed table.
Gaffer cannot speak the elementals language of Aquan, perhaps some day...For now he tries to mime his intentions. Elementals are not very bright, but they appear to pick up on his wishes and begin Drenching the area. Gaffer begins summoning more elementals to join the cause Sarge casts Create Water again, again and again.
Over 150,000 square feet of blazing timber battles against spell, elemental and men with buckets. The townrow fire is partially contained, the danger of the fire leaping the narrow streets or alleys though is still very real.

Able to navigate the fire, handle the smoke and magically protected from the fire, Des moves upstairs honing in on the shout he heard, though now it has fallen silent. A few moments later and he spies a woman slumped along the a back corridor collapsed while trying to break through the back wall. Hmerrin calls for Wil to follow Des as the paladin heads off and Wil does. Hmerrin then gets to his feet with each of the unconscious people. With the additional 275, Hmerrin stands and turns, but the smoke has caught his lungs and fire burns through them, all he can do is cough. Toston gets to the man and pulls him free, though it is a struggle to drag the 175 pound man away. Wil catches up with Des and the paladin is heading down the stairs. Wil offers a Resist Fire spell, but Des has already cast one upon himself before entering this inferno. Smoke chokes Wil's eyes and thunderous collapse from a moment ago has left him a bit disorientated. Des is coming down the stairs and can see Wil is in a bit of distress, at least from an orientation stand point. Fire, smoke and debris is everywhere. curtains of fire roll up walls, leap across the ceiling and conceal and reveal passages and doorways constantly. Getting turned around is overly hard Hmerrin is able to gather his wits and stop coughing and catches a parting of a smoke curtain to his left. Good news, he can see the exit, bad news means the temperature just went up fast enough to incinerate the smoke. With little choice, Hmerrin heads through, spies the exit and staggers back outside Toston struggles a bit to find his way, dragging the man with him. Flames flash in his eyes and across his face. It does not hurt, but it is distracting and harder to see because of it.
Sarge spies Hmerrin with 2 unconscious people and from thier blackened skin, lack of hair and smoldering clothes, they are in bad shape. The cleric is there in moments and positive energy pulses from her through the power of Domi. Both will live Gaffer continues with the water elementals to drench not only the exterior walls that are on fire, but those nearby as well. The first set of elementals vanishes The water bucket line also contiinues as well Gaffer then spots an arm dangling out of of the third floor windows some 50' to the left. Flames leap from the floor below and smoke rolls in thick clouds from the window itself He hears a bit of conversation from the bucket line as well..."Used to belong to House Silver. Went under about a year or so back. Can't recall who took it from them..."

Wil takes the moment to head out into the fresh night air As Des turns, Toston emerges with a forth casualty to put into Sage's keeping. Gaffer is able to extract the man from the upper floor window and saves number 5 Hmerrin ad Des both are trying to gauge the structure. The entire town house row is ablaze on interior. All 6 units are now on fire. The bucket brigade, Gaffer's elementals and Sarges Create Water spells have prevented the fire from jumping the alley or street and the outer facade is realtively intact and fire free. How long will she stand is hard to say, the interior still burns and that is where a good deal of structural support lays. Sarge sets up to care for those pulled from the fire, and magical healing gets them back up in no time. Toston looks about, but there are no animals that he can see in the area. Gaffer circles with the AirWalk spell, already having rescued one more person. He completes several circuits about the block and sees no one else. Wil looks to concede the fire burning the city to the ground, but the efforts of the Tide and those nearby, will likely contain the loss to one town row of houses. He asks if any about saw how it started. Dez joins the buckets as does Toston and Hmerrin gives the ground a circle too
No cries for help and fallen forms can be seen by anyone. Hopefully that means everyone got out and or were rescued. It takes another 2 hours to put the fire out. What was Marsh House and House Silver before that, is now a charred ruin structural unstable and a complete loss. As are the other 3 buildings attached to it. Exhausted, but happy faces are about the street having all helped in 'saving the day' No one about saw what started the fire. Marsh House had been empty for some time, save the occasional squatter. The Tide ask and get a run down of events from several people

Three of those you pulled out, were simply crashing for the night, meant no harm, just needed a place. Since the quake and all. "Woke up coughing and confused. With another glance at the burned out Marsh House, the lad finally turns back into the street.

Toston casts Detect Magic, but other than what the the party has, there is no residual magic in the area powerful enough to be picked up over 3 hours later. His physical inspection will take several hours but it might yield some information Des expresses how he was glad the group could help. Hmerrin looks about and ponders the odds of 2 locations, that can be linked to The Tide being wiped out. It does not give the young man a happy feeling Wil thinks for a moment on who the group might have been renting Marsh House out to, but the answer is no one, officially Marsh House did not belong to the tide. An abandoned building in Dirt City like so many others Gaffer picks up on Hmerrin ideas and wonders aloud if there is anything that could be done to protect Shale House. The spell of Hallow leaps to mind, but it does require time and some expensive components
The group was on their way to meet Three Bits, the arena is tomorrow night. The party was delayed a good 3 hours, fighting the blaze, do you still try and meet with Three Bits? Do you stay on site at what is left of Marsh House to investigate for clues?
It is 2 hours before midnight at this time

We should probably get a hold of the person who let Shale House to us in the first place tomorrow. Maybe they might be able to offer us information that might be useful in piecing out why this happened."

Toston wants to investigate, but also knows the importance of keeping the meeting with Three Bits and so suggests the others go on. Hmerrin, Sarge, Des and really everyone agrees and as they head to the non descript building that serves as the front, Hmerrin suggest that Des does the talking Gaffer agrees and the group arrives about 20 minutes later.
Toston starts to carefully pick through the burnt building. The interior of the place is a blackened and burnt wreck, almost nothing survived the fire. Toston explores the first floor, thankfully finding no bodies, but a bit unsure as to what he might be looking for. Arriving at the Curio shop, is it a surprise that while the sign says closed the shop door is slightly ajar? Upon entering, soft candlelight illuminates the very back of the shop and a shadowed figure waits there. Hmerrin glances about into the darkness of the nearby rows and aisles, but he sees and hears nothing, though the fighter feels eyes on him. A voice breaks from the figure, some recognize Three Bits by her cracking older female voice, "Hmerrin,...Gaffer,...Wil. Explain the dwarf and paladin's presence. Am I so threatening or mistrusted that you bring the likes of Domi?"

Three Bits and the Fire. -DM Dan K Wednesday September 25th, 2019 10:01:27 PM
Three Bits's face remains stoic, as it always does. If there was something she was better at than finding things out, that was not letting anyone know what she was thinking or feeling. She responds to Sarge with a nod and looking at Hmerrin and Gaffer, "Well of course. Let us hope Toston discovers something." Three bits listens to Gaffer's summary and parrots back what she hears. "So the WLA is effectively gone, seasoned adventures killed in the night and one of your last known residence was burned to the ground 2 days later. This one is free boys. Sounds like you have some enemies on the move. I'd watch my moves if I were you."
She slides the candle to the right and gestures for the group to come in closer. "To the other matter, the earring. It is a relatively common item, given the time of the arena. But if one looks into the details, it is possible to whittle that list considerably. With one of those filters being someone willing to have tried to kill a man in his sleep.
"Good thoughts and point Wil, or was that Cierco?" She waves a hand, "It really isn't important. But you're right, any yahoo at all, but you were all expected." Three Bits looks at Wil and, well who knows what might be going on in that mind, but soon enough she speaks. "The list is not overly short dear boy. and what I want, well I will have to postpone that to a little later. It won't be anything over the top and so if we are agreed, I'll continue"
Desdichado squints his eyes at the shadowed figure in the dim light, and gives a half smile when she speaks of being "threatening". "'Threatened with Domi'?", he says, "if you feel threatened by the presence of agents of Domi, that's between you and Domi, of course, madam." His smile widens as he speaks. "But, you aren't threatened by *me*, at least not unless you plan on doing harm to one of my friends here, or to some innocent nearby."
He looks around. "But seeing as it looks to be just us, I want to put you at ease." He nods his head for a few moments, as if wanting to bow, but feeling a bit awkward about it. "You can call me Desdichado. Sarge and I have recently joined in with the Tide to help out as we can, and we'd heard that you have a connection with Hmerrin and the others here."
"Let me be direct: We're here for information and from what I've heard, you're one of the best at finding things out. We'd like to know if you know anything else about this earring - "he gestures to Hmerrin (OOC: he's still holding the ring, right?), " - we've heard that it belonged to a '30 match winner' in the Arena. And as you probably know, to someone who attacked the WLA. Is there anything else of interest you know about this, or can direct us to."
"Incidentally, on the way here we just stopped to rescue people out of Marsh House - it's now burnt to cinders, again, as you probably already know - and my friends here say that they had a connection to that House. It seems to us that someone might be on the Tide's trail. Would you happen to know anything about that, too?"
He pauses for her to respond, and then, almost as if it's an afterthought frowns and says, "We know this kind of information doesn't come for free, so what do you want to know in return?"

Des assures Three Bits that he and Sarge were not threatening her as long as she did not plan to harm their freinds or innocents. He goes on to ask about the earring and what she might already know about the hit on the WLA and the fire at Marsh House The group listens to Three Bits and agree to her indirect request for her to continue.
Three Bits stotic as always, purposefully nods to Des. "Well spoken paladin of Domi, but I do have a correction my nature demads of me. I did not say I felt threatened. I asked if you did, specifically my old friends Hmrerrin of Merrydale and Wilford Grimly." Three Bits offers a small smile, "The earring belongs to one of three people. Lady Constance, Terrafin or Harbinger. They were all in the City on the night in question, have no morals about killing men in cold blood and are frightening good fighters having won 30 solo matches in the arena." She sits back letting her information sink in a bit.
"Whoever is after you, knows you well, but is still a victim of Dirt City information. Not long ago you were asking about Golden Eyes and brought that information to the WLA. I do not think the issues are entirely unrelated.
Toston is able to move well through the burned out building row. While the flames are out, there are hot spots the gnome needs to pay attention to. Toston spends just over 3 hours going through the building. He finds no magical or planar casuse to the fire. It was set old school style and the perceptive gnome locates 3 seperate starting points. The front foyer, the back exit hall and the tope of the main stair. Toston finds the remnants of a bucket in each location and what marks the fire as oil. A low temp, slow burn with a great deal of smoke. The gnome also finds evidence that the back door was nailed shut. Toston does not find any valuables.

After hearing the response, he says, "I don't know who -- or what -- Golden Eyes is, but if this was about to the WLA, was is possible there was a leak? Maybe someone who was hanging around the WLA safehouse but who wasn't there the night of the attack?"

Three Bits sits back and waits. He wonders about the trustworthiness of Three Bits. Gaffer thinks the group would have gotten hit immediately if the information came from her, she knows the group very well Wil agrees, plus the group was business to her. She protected business.
Three Bits answers Wil, "Getting into the Arena? That is easy, simply sign into a fight. Wil knows House members have been know to fight, but not very often. He believes a pair of second cousins joined the pair fighting for a bit. Had an OK run going 9 and 5, but they stabbed in an ally over a bet, goes the rumor.

That doesn't speak to whether or not the WLA assassin was working alone or not but it does speak to whoever they were not being magically inclined or wanting us to think they weren't. However given the fact that it doesn't sound like the suspect list Three Bits created had any mages on it, I'd say there is a strong possibility the arsonist and the assassin are one and the same."

If we had something worth obscuring from scrying we could obscure up to an 800 pound object. Mayhap we pitch a tent inside our room and have Nissa cast obscure object each day and then we sleep inside the tent? Speaking of Nissa I should probably probably warn her and the rest of my people that we seem to be the target of enemy action and it might blowback on my gnomies possibly so they should be extra vigilant themselves."

"Ask our tenants to vamoose for a bit. Cast your Hallow or whatever, as well as setting up traps. I can make sure all doors have bars, and windows have storm shutters that can also be barred.
And we still need to give the Arena a visit tomorrow to see if we can find Lady Constance, Terrafin and/or Harbinger, and maybe narrow our list down to one."

The party retired after the previous night's adventure of fighting fires, speaking with Three Bits and going over the results of the investigation at about 3am. It is now just before noon and all spell casters have their spells prepared for the day. The Arena is already open and will remain so until just before the normal dinner hour 6pm Gaffer begins casting Hallow and will finish the ritual tomorrow at noon. what spell are you placing in Hallow Herrin heads out to begin getting materials to create more security on the windows and doors of Shale House. It will take 1 day to secure 1 floor by his estimations. Wil proposes making traps, but that requires teh craft of Trap making, which no one possesses. The conversation with Lily, Tombo and the other tenants is easy and they all agree to close up shop for a week. They trust the group to make right with any monetary issues involving thier need to be gone for longer.
Sarge, Toston and Des are free to head to the Arena and mingle to drum up talk on Lady Constance, Terrafin and/or Harbinger. The place is crowded and the trio pays a few silver at the gate to gain admittance. They quickly learn that only one of the three still fights and that is Lady Canstance. She had a match earlier today and is headlining a match this afternoon. Lady Constance against 3 opponents. Terrafin and The Harbinger have not been in the arena in over 30 days. And how would the saves work? I would like to attach either that or Invisibility Purge, though I don't know if I can do the latter or if a Sarge could assist? ]
Gaffer still feels the Hallow all is a good idea, hirelings they can usually deal with, it is more serious evil he wants some protection from.

DM Dispel Magic would operate as a single Targeted Dispel Magic attempt against anyone not fitting for parameters of the Hallow spell itself as soon as they entered the area. Having assisted on a few construction projects in the city before, Hmerrin is comfortable finding and buying the supplies (and most likely renting a wagon).
Then its back to Shale House unload.
The young fighter figures he might as well start on the ground floor, even if their unknown opponents have shown they can enter higher windows. Battening down the third floor, and leaving the ground floor windows wide open just makes no sense.

Shale House. -DM Dan K Thursday October 3rd, 2019 10:50:10 PM
Sarge, Toston and Des go to the arena and after paying a couple silver to the gate, start moving about and taking in the atmosphere and learning what they can. The guards the party had spoken to a couple of days ago were very right, there is no shortage of people willing to talk about thier favorite fighters and The Big Three, as the group comes to know them, are no exception. Hiring out to private events does not get much traction, the phrase confuses most. A couple of folks rephrase it to 'You mean assassination stuff? Not that I know of' Toston asks about challenging and a new comber can to an extent, but only within thier own class. So you could not, for example walk in off the street and challenge Lady Constance. Too much money involved with such an unkknown for the owners. The basic run down on the 3 Lady Constance is not a noble, it is an arena title. She is known for playing with her opponents and has won with a multitude of weapons. Rumor only, has her living in a place in the City Below. Strong, fast and very popular. She is a crowd pleaser and fights under no House. She is sponsored by a noble Ta'El-amosh from Plateau City. There are occassional sightings of her in the city and she has been known to mingle with the upper class of Dirt City Harbinger is brutal and not overly liked by the polite crowd. He has the most actual kills in the arena in recent memory. He has an independant sponsor out of Emerald City as far as anyone knows, and generally is only in Dirt City when competing. It is rumored that some of his matches have been thinly veiled executions. Terrafin is a highly efficient and dangerous fighter. Like Constance, a multitude of weapons and also liked and admired by the crowds at large. He is also rumored to live within the city and there are sightings of him here and there.
None of the three are on the ticket today and have not been for about a month. The rumor mill thinks that next month there is a large event being planned to bring at least 2 of them in.
Hmerrin spends the day collecting the materials he will need and he begins securing the ground floor
Gaffer continues with the Hallow spell.
After the afternoon at the Arena, Toston, Sarge and Des return to Shale House and Sarge is available to put Invisibility Purge into the Hallow, if Gaffer wihes to go that direction
The day ends and darkness falls. With the Buttering Ram closed, Shale House is oddly quiet
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP: 74/74; AC:27/20/23- CMD 26 Thursday October 3rd, 2019 11:11:51 PM
Toston says, "So I guess the only way we personally would get to fight whoever attacked the WLA and our former residence is to win 50 matches in the arena ourselves."
He then goes on, "I think we should talk to the owner of Marsh House tomorrow to find out if they may have angered any of the big three."
Wilford Grimly (HP:60/60; AC: 22; Touch: 12; Flat: 16; CMD: 18) d20+15=18 ; d20+12=14 ; Friday October 4th, 2019 8:14:52 AM
Wil overslept and missed an entire day.. it seems. Next morning he is up and ready to go. "Honestly, I wouldn't want to go against any well experienced fighters. Kind of suicidal if you ask me. I would though like to deploy a little Diplomacy. I've got on my best suit." Wil had put on his best courtier’s outfit and tries to appear as professional as possible. "I think we need to head to the arena and at least put on a good show but with lower caliber fighters. This Lady Constance... I think I've heard of her." (Diplomacy: 18)(Know Local: 14)
Desdichado(Ryan) [HP: 102/102; AC:20/10/20 - CMD 23] Friday October 4th, 2019 2:42:57 PM
Back at Shale House, Desdichado reflect on what they learned with the others.
"I suppose any of the three of them could be behind it. Or working together, even, maybe? One thing sticks out at me, though - Three Bits said all of them were in town the night of the attack on the WLA chapterhouse. But, I wonder -- from what we learned from the folks today, Harbinger is usually only in town during arena events -- and he hasn't been in a fight for a month. That might be worth following up on, if we know how to find him."
"And I agree with Toston - it would be nice to find out more about a motive behind this, too."

Gaffer plans to work a Dispel Magic into the Hallow spell, targeted at any of evil alignment who come into the upper floor of Shale House, not the business areas down stairs, if possible. It is not a perfect defense by any means, but it gives him a little peace of mind that anyone hoping to murder them in their sleep will have to take extra care at the least.
Sarge [AC 21; HP 61/61] (Kathy) Friday October 4th, 2019 7:12:32 PM
"Of the three, Terrafin is the only one without a sponsor," Sarge muses. "That might make him more likely to need money, and be willing to hire out. Of course, that's assuming Earring was hired out and doesn't have some personal stake in all this."
Hmerrin(HP 109/109 AC:27 T:15 FF:23 CMD:27) Sunday October 6th, 2019 2:45:42 PM
Hmerrin wearily scratches his head. "Politics and intrigue. Not my favorite subjects. Gimme a water weird to arm wrestle any day."
The lad considers. "Well, first off, we need to go into 'dangerous territory' protocol, and start with watches. Tonight, let's go with Wil and Toston, me and Gaffer, and Dez and Sarge."
"In the morning, Toston and somebody can visit Shale House's owner. I'd like to secure the second floor, and basically keep watch on the place."
Toston Lotor(Hugh Crosmun) [HP: 74/74; AC:27/20/23- CMD 26 Sunday October 6th, 2019 9:23:22 PM
Toston says, "I can't remember if a solicitor contacted us regarding Marsh House or if it was set up by the Crescent Moons Trading Company but I'm sure we can figure it out. Worse case scenario we send someone to the company to ask Madri if she has any records on it."
Sarge [AC 21; HP 61/61] (Kathy) Monday October 7th, 2019 8:44:51 PM
Sarge agrees to the proposed watches.
"I'm sure you'll figure it out," she tells Toston.

Toston says, "Now that I'm thinking about it I think Madri handed us a scrap of paper that had the address of Marsh House. We met a man who represented its owners named Lem Cother. We met him at the Marsh House so I wonder if he has offices somewhere we could track him down and ask him if he knows any reason why anyone would want to torch Marsh house."
Shale House. -DM Dan K Tuesday October 8th, 2019 1:16:56 AM
Toston looks into checking out Marsh House. Lem Cother was the last contact they had, from Madri of the CMTC and so that seems a good place to start. Wil lends a little local knowledge and can point Toston and whomever wants to go with him in the right direction. Lem has an office of sorts in Dockside. Hmerrin suggests and others agree, time to start watches through the night and he sets out an order that is readily accepted Toston heads out and late in the afternoon arrives in Dockside and locates Mr Cother's office. it is a sliver of a section of a townhouse row. Cother and Associates. Gaffer sets a Dispel magic into the Hallow. It will have an effect on any evil creature that enters the Hallow area, a 40' diameter zone. Centered to the second floor of Shale House, it will impact most of The Tide's area and some of the renter properties of the first floor. There is no helping it really
Toston finds Lem Cother is in and that the fellow knows of the fire, is more than upset about it and does not have any suspects or suspicions as to whom might have done it

"Another dead end," Wil sighs. "What are we missing here?" "I'm ready to march right into the arena and start some trouble just to drum up something," he says. "It's the only lead we have. Something about these arena warriors. I know we are all sorts or trouble but can someone step forward and claim some responsibility?"
Desdichado(Ryan) [HP: 102/102; AC:20/10/20 - CMD 23] Tuesday October 8th, 2019 1:20:04 PM
"Yes, let's keep watch for the next few days, but whoever isn't on watch during Arena matches should probably go over."

Gaffer takes some time to recuperate after casting the spell, that being his first time casting something so lengthy. He makes a point to catch up with the other's and find out what they have learned, agreeing that keeping watching and staying prepared for any followup action for a few days is a good plan.
Hmerrin(HP 109/109 AC:27 T:15 FF:23 CMD:27) Tuesday October 8th, 2019 6:42:36 PM
Hmerrin flicks a nail across the room.
"We got nuthin'" he notes sourly, listening to Toston's report. The lad sighs heavily.
"Somebody write this down, 'cause I agree with Wil. What say we walk into the Arena, announce The Tide is there to take on anybody, and see who shows up?"
Sarge [AC 21; HP 61/61] (Kathy) Tuesday October 8th, 2019 10:18:32 PM
"I'm with Hmerrin," Sarge says. "Somebody's trying to kill us, and we don't know who. Let's invite them to come to us."

When Toston was talking to Lem he was intending to ask the man if he had any dealings with any of the big three of the arena or their patron.
Later Toston says, "I don't suppose there is a way to get bonus wins? Like maybe defeating some challenges are worth more than just a single win. I'm not opposed to arena matches I just don't don't see us getting to where we need to be in a timely manner. I mean either someone planted a false lead or that earring means someone with 50 wins knows something about killing off the WLA and torching Marsh House."
Hmerrin(HP 109/109 AC:27 T:15 FF:23 CMD:27) Wednesday October 9th, 2019 5:27:54 PM
Hmerrin shakes his head. "We don't need to get to 50 wins ourselves. If someone is really after us and we walk into the Arena with trumpets blaring "Here We Are", my bet is Mr Bad Guy comes a'knockin'."
Shale House. -DM Dan K Wednesday October 9th, 2019 6:44:43 PM
Toston's conversation with Lem on the three does turn up an interesting piece of information. Terrafin has an owner, Lem is sure, he's not sure who precisely and he has heard rumors that the fighter is involved in the slave trade with a group. The day is winding down, Gaffer's spell In place, Hmerrin has 'secured' or at least enhanced the first and second floors and talk shifts to storming the arena, in a way
Sarge, WIl and Hmerrin are all in favor of cruising into the arena and declaring the The Tide to take on all comers.
Little more can be done now and watches are set and you retire. The watches are as Hmerrin laid out First, Wil and Toston, Then Hmerrin and Gaffer, and lastly Dez and Sarge.
It is in the earliest morning hours at nearly the end of Dez and Sarges watch when both hear a rapid, but relatively subdued knocking at the front door. The raps are fast, very fast. Whoever is outside is using both hands, but is also doing their very best to not be heard by the street at large.
Desdichado(Ryan) [HP: 102/102; AC:20/10/20 - CMD 23] Wednesday October 9th, 2019 7:38:17 PM
Dez stands up quick as a flash. "Sarge, I don't know what's going on, but we probably want everyone down here as quickly as possible. I'll run up and and alert everyone if you want to check on who's at the door."
He goes as quickly as possible upstairs and knocks on each room. "Someone's at the front door. It may be nothing, but I thought you'd want to know."
Sarge [AC 21; HP 61/61] (Kathy) Wednesday October 9th, 2019 10:43:16 PM
Sarge hurries to the front door. Since she can see in the dark, she doesn't light any kind of light that might shine into the street and draw attention. As quietly as possible, she opens the door and peeks outside.

Before bed Toston says, "Do you think this could have anything to do with slavery? Lem did say Terrifin is rumored to be involved in the slave trade. If we are trying to change things for the better then slavery in Dirt City will definitely have to go at some point."
When Dez shows up, Toston grabs his sword and hurries down. It pays to not need to wear armor sometimes.
"Quiet Cicero," Wil warned "...and I warned you about taking over... oh.. I can do something don't you worry just keep arguing. I think there are plenty of spells that may wipe your noise from my head. I'm sure there are some potent liquids that may do it easier... yes, I'm sure I will not feel the greatest but at least you will be gone during that period of time... thought so." "I'm thinking offensive spells this morning..." said a younger voice. "Not you too, do you two plan out what your going to do all night?" Wil warned. "Sorry." Wil cleared his throat.. "What do we have going on outside of the distraction I am causing?" Wil asked while loading his heavy crossbow.

Hmerrin rolls out of bed, glances at his armor, remembers the last time this happened, and shakes his head.
Taking his axes, he moves to the stairway, but stays up on the second floor.
He listens carefully, both to whatever the team is about to encounter, as well as for anything going on above him - juuuust in case this is a distraction.

Gaffer is slow to wake after staying up for his shift and clambers out of bed without his armour, grabbing only his focus and heading downstairs.
"mMmm, what's happening? I can go take a look?"
He offers to wildshape as a cat and head outside through a window to see who is at the door.
