A Chance to Regroup (DM Cayzle) Tuesday September 24th, 2019 9:35:41 PM
As they did the day before, the heroes fly up the pit and "camp" in a Mage's Mansion. They discuss what will be needed to assault the Burning Land of Maegos. Is it then a straight-up fight that you seek? Will you bring the crystal roses with you? If so, who will carry them, and in a dimensional container? If not, where and how will you stash them?
Any divinations of other spells you guys wish to cast before heading back in?
Are you bringing the permanent telepathy head spikes with you?

Emrys and Daemon fly up and out of the pit with the rest. The doorway to the magic mansion is a most welcome sight. He is more fatigued that usual. Never has he cast such powerful spells; their drain was more than expected. He now understands how his father tried to described the feeling; and that there was no good description. He collapses into a comfortable chair and signals for one of the servants to bring him his wine. "Don't move with that bottle ... I'm not done yet!"
After the first bottle, he begins to ponder the things he saw today .. the things they collected. The fact that Luck Stones, extraordinary and of exception quality they were .... "why were they the eyes of that undead garlic?!"

V sits back and relaxes in a comfortable chair. looking forward to a tasy meal he doesn't actually need to eat, a glass of wine he definitely wants to drink, and a bath he absolutely needed.
"Do we want to undertake a full out assault right off the bat? I'm not sure if that's the wisest course of action. I think perhaps we give Maegos the same option we gave Kelesandria. Cease all activities outside of your realm, or will do it for you. We may have a much more difficult time with Maegos, as his golems are not likely effected by spells as the plant people were."
"Do we take the flowers? I'm not keen on taking them in, but at the same time i would not feel secure leaving them out here while not in our possession....Unless I teleport them back to the Manor and leave them there."

Lanliss asks while still trying to make his appearance (clothes wise). "In the end I should have not disguised myself with all the stuff I found", he thinks out loud (and says). She considers Barratorre and Velarin’s ideas, and reluctantly... sides with the Minotaur. “No use if we are just gonna take his armor at the end anyways. Maybe after we beat Braella, Sieur Edson and Sieur Lanliss can find the secret entrance so we can bypass everything and jus get to the throne room?”
“And a Wind Walk Spell we can bypass the geysers and Swarms.”
“And Sieur Velarin, are there any Spell changes you can do to your normal study for better effect against constructs?”

Barratore nods as Tishe talks, "That's right the secret passage he showed us to get out quickly. Bloody brilliant Tishe." Barratore does inhale and sour look crosses his snout, "Nothing we have thought seems to really carry through and I am nervous about bringing in the flowers in an extra dimensional space with the premise that we think there is no way to access it. We can't, but can he?"
Barratore continues, "What if we left the roses inside a mansion. The spell lasts over a day, and only those V says can go in can. Thoughts?"

A Chance to Regroup (DM Cayzle) Wednesday September 25th, 2019 11:43:23 PM
Safe in the magical mansion, Emrys unwinds and ponders the imponderable. He considers the three magical gem-eyes, and detects that they are each tied to the three crystalline flowers. While the flowers last, the gems cannot be destroyed. Once the flowers are destroyed, each eye can be used once to cast a Wish spell.
Velarin suggests an alternate approach to Maegos, and he wonders what the party should do with the crystal flowers. Maybe leave them at the party Manor?
Lanliss relaxes and worries at his dirty garb. It seems hard for your Dungeon Master to honestly believe, however, that such mundane concerns are at issue for a hero of the 17th level of puissance. Surely the invisible master servants of the mansion would clean and mend and buff and shine as needed, from boots to buttons! But be that as it may, Lanliss also worries at the plan for Maegos, wondering what to tell the master smith.
Tishe’ thinks that Braella will have to be beaten again, and that the dungeon will need to be re-run, unless you can find the back door. And put the flowers in an extra dimensional space?
Barratore suggests leaving them here in the Mansion, and heading in for a fight and the secret passage.

Even the Powers are not completely safe when you remember Margos’ comments about Kelivar and Marteus! Having them with us at least means Maegos has to go through us to get them in the first place. “

We could all teleport back. Time is not of the essence in this instance for a change. We actually have the time, for the first time I can remember, the option to go back, purchase some additional potions, scrolls, anti-golem stuff, update Lord Hmitri as to what is going on in case it goes bad, and then return when ready. If we all get wiped out, the Cinnamon Valley has no idea what is going on here. I would definitely like some more potions and scrolls before attempting this. "I am not concerned about a minion being summoned to the mountains, who penetrates the mines, navigates the lake of magicless death, defeats the time elemental and then is powerful enough to dispel one of V's mightiest spells, but I see no reason to press it. No way we leave them at the manor. They go with us. I agree with Lanliss the only drawback i see to the time is on our side idea is that is seems to me, in order for those two to have hated each other so much, they have to be aware of the other. We just killed her correct? I think we should operate under the impression that he knows that and is putting precautions and defenses in place. Even though us bringing him the roses and thus putting an end to her is what he wants. He knows we are highly capable and will be on the highest of alert when we go in.."
Barratore pauses, "Which then leads back to what V was saying, returning for some special supplies for what we know of his defenses seems prudent. I think we should follow that course. Maegos is not 'going' anywhere. We should be at the top of our game."

"Very enlightening indeed! While the flowers exist, these Wish Stones can not be destroyed. Once the Flowers are destroyed, each of the tree Wish Stones can be used to grant a Wish. This opens new doors of possibilities, wouldn't you say?! Perhaps something quite useful against the 2nd evil ex."
Emrys gazes deeply into the marvelously crafted wish stones and says, "Afterwards they would make fine paper weights, a nice conversation piece ... a lovely gift."
Daemon then chimes in ... "Why not wissh for a giant gemsstone worthy of an immortal ... and make a SSoul Trap for Maegoss. You were sscheming that tactic earlier!"
"Spoiler, Daemon! I was about to get to that. Yes, if done properly, Maegos merely touching the gemstone would complete the casting of the spell and his resistances would be useless. He'd be trapped within the gem for eternity ... for as long as the gem exists."

A Chance to Regroup ... WHEN? (DM Cayzle) Monday September 30th, 2019 11:07:50 AM
With the caster power in the group, two teleportish magics are no difficult matter. Velarin takes everyone but Emrys and Barratore. Emrys thus moves himself and his large friend to the designated refuge that is your manor. Velarin, please roll the standard Teleport chance for error ... on a d100, that's 98-99 for being off target, and 00 for going to a very similar location.
[OOC: Your DM does not see any name for it other than "The Manor" -- are there details I am missing?]
However, teleporting from the Temple of Time, near a place where dimensional magics are disrupted, proves problematic. Maybe it would have been better to have open sky overhead when the spells were cast ...
Emrys leading one group, and Velarin leading the other, find that their paths diverge as the dimensional magics warp and weave.
Each of you, also please roll separately for WHEN your group arrives. 2d6-7 ... -5 to +5 days from the present. 0 = arrives the same day the spell was cast. Roll a d2 and a d12 to see the time of day you arrive.
Keep in mind that you have been underground for several days, and may or may not be surprised when you arrive. But Velarin's group may be surprised that Emrys' group does not immediately follow, and Emrys's group may be surprised not to find Velarin's group when you arrive. Unless Velarin's group finds Emrys's group waiting?! Or maybe Velarin's group will be already there when Emrys's arrives? Hmmm ... confusing!
Note that attempts to teleport back to the Temple always fail. The only way to return is through the front doors.

Emrys spends some time analyzing the Telepaspikes. They cannot be used for scrying, because scrying only finds creatures, and clairvoyance only finds places. Locate Object and equivalent would find them, without scrying ... but with wishes on the table, almost anything is possible. There's the old standby of the paranoid hero, Detect Scrying, if you have that available ...

Maegos Smiles (DM Cayzle) Thursday October 10th, 2019 11:58:38 PM
Recap: You entered the realm of heat two days ago, saw the golems, and they bowed. Yesterday you looked for the secret entrance to Maegos's throneroom -- recall that's how he showed you to the exit last visit. You found the secret way, found it relatively easy to navigate, and followed it to the throneroom.
Maegos's throneroom is a huge underground chamber that has one corner devoted to his forge, one corner devoted to his "museum" of things on display ... looks mostly like stuff he crafted, weapons, works of art, a ... a spoon? and is that a metallic chess set?
The last corner of the chamber has the throne. It looks quite comfy and lived in, even a little shabby, and there's a folding table built into it, looks like.
In addition to Maegos himself, an armored medium person, you are in the throneroom with the two golems from the entrance (they followed you) as well as Maegos's four bodyguard golems.
Meagos looks disappointed when Emrys says they have not had a chance to use the telepathy items. "Well, I hope you find time soon. They really are among my best creations. You give us your Armor and we will take it from this Teucri Artifact, so neither of you have the possibility of being controlled by the other. We are giving you this chance to agree.”

Emrys and Edson hesitate, thinking it wise to NOT encounter your past selves.
Baratorre and Lanliss are willing to at least SPY on the past, but not confront.
But "you" have not yet emerged from the pit after defeating Kelsandria ... although you will doubtless emerge soon ... so Velarin suggests consulting the time elemental, and Tishe' agrees with that.
You seek out the time elemental, and you find it in a nook, quiescent. When you approach and call out, the swirling cloud of reddish-yellow vapor emerges, but then flinches away from you.
"Nnoooooo," it howls as it perceives you. "Yoouuuu aaarrreee paaarraaddoooooxx! Iiiitt iiiss taaabboooo!"
Evidently it can sense that you exist in Simultaneity, and the being of Time does not like the situation. It almost seems hostile, but it hears you out.
Velarin explains the situation. The elemental evidently thinks poorly of the idea that you might be close, even if out of sight, to your doppelgängers. Its advice is (for once) unambiguous.

There are things Brom understands and things he doesn't. What is going on is confusing to him. His instinct tells him to stay away from the mine, the pit, all of it. He doesn't wish to spy on the place or be within eye or ear shot.
He points out to his large friend that while he couldn't see an invisible minotaur from 100-ft he could most definitely be heard. And it is that risk he doesn't want to take.
Brom only sums up his thoughts on it. "It's happened already. And will happen. Nothing happened when we did it before to make us make the decisions we made so watching it unfold only creates risk."
If the group will not stay clear, Brom heads off into the wilds alone. He cannot take the risk his instincts tell him is bad and forcing them would draw too much attention.

There are two things that can happen. Our other selves can either have to act as we have or they are free to act completely independently. If the former, then other selves HAVE to teleport out and go into the past, that is what we did. They will then come back talk to Meagos and do precisely what we have just done down to this conversation. If so, there is an infinite loop and our lucky friend here, the time elemental, gets to enjoy this conversation every 2 days." he looks over at the creature, "You enjoy that, I'm sure it'll never get old and you have to do it because if you don't, paradox or whatever." Barratore waves him off
"Oh and bonus. We have a nearly permanent guard here as every 2 days, we will effectively be here."
"If our other selves do not have to act as we do, we can never go home or anywhere familiar ever again because they surely will and, 'Ta-Da', Paradox. Or worse yet, If they teleport from the pit and the time shift is not predetermined and they bounce forward making us the other selves, paradox. of Course even if we do watch them go, we don't know and can't know really about the time shift and so if bumping into ourselves is time ending and all..." Barratore pauses as Brom exits and shrugs the rest of his sentence.

As the party plans and surveys the mine, Emrys pipes in on several observances and opinions.
"The more I think of it, caving in the mine won't do anything to help the surrounding lands. The act would be no different than sweeping dust under the rug. It will only allow a false sense of security. This Cavern of Time, a shrine of the Tucre, will remain a font of immense power that will continue to influence the surroundings. Maybe the better course is to get the Pitchfork Council involved so that the mine can be maintained and studied. What could be learned is immeasurable."
"As for removing the corruption from the land, there are many spells that can help. Velarin mentions several good ones. How about we commission several shrines, stone circles and a grove to Culverwood. Holy and Hallowed Ground works very well at influencing the land around them. I could bless the land, but that would only make it more fertile and it will need to be maintained annually."
"Barratore, that is why I recommended going to Culverheart ... I wasn't suggesting a holiday. My father would know a thing or two about how to succeed in this endeavor ... being an Archdruid, a Knight of the Realm and a retired Gold Dragon."
"Those of you who don't possess the gift of magic, don't think you're not an influence. We all carry with us the divine spark, the blood of the Living Wold. The Muse called it a Voice ... a single voice in the Grand Choir. That all our voices are part of the song. I'm not a musician, but I like the way he describes it. It's that spark why the gods crave our worship ... there's power in it. Your presence and good works will bring the change you seek."
Paradoxical Encounter? (DM Cayzle) Sunday October 27th, 2019 11:58:57 PM
Velarin suggests a look through the mine, and in fact a sweep shows no occupancy, not even an orc is to be seen. That opens the way for a collapse ...
Barratore suggests closing access to the deeper areas, but allowing the mine to remain functional, seeing as others might use it for their livelihood.
Lanliss suggests seeking help, perhaps among the Star Mages, or from a druid.
Edson agrees that seeking outside help is a good idea.
Emrys agrees as well, and that makes a good enough consensus!
Over the next week, if the DM may be excused for advancing the action, you use your magic to seal off the deeper and more dangerous parts of the mine, so that the Time Temple is no longer accessible. You also get rid of the obelisk, most likely with a couple well-placed Disintegrates. You sense that the guild researchers are not entirely pleased, but they do not actually object. In your earshot.
You seek out a high-level druid, who is pleased to bless the area and agree to come back every year for four more years to do the same. Please mark off six grand gold for the service.
You keep the Pitchfork Council up to date, and Dulcet herself suggests sowing the blessed ash of Mount Glitterox over the area. After all, that's what keeps the Cinnamon Valley so blessed. That might prove a slightly greater challenge, so your DM will not assume it done, but see what you do with the suggestion.
Note: There is some talk of loot. I believe all has been resolved except for the telepathy spikes and the wish-orbs. You would need to find a private NPC buyer for those, probably among the rulership of a small country or among the wealthy of a large city. You have not indicted that you wish to sell these unique items yet.

The paradox seems to have avoided.
The spikes - Brom doesn't plan on nailing anything into his skull. They'll be permanent and you'll be dead. That's his opinion.
There is talk of land purification, which is all beyond the young barbarian. Magic is not barbarian and big magic even less so. But a trip to Culverwood would be a nice change of pace and some place Brom had never been.
He does ask V to put a teleport spell in his ring. While things are decided, Brom wants to do a patrol around the valley.

Velarin takes the time to do a deeper analysis of Maegos's Armor. It is the equivalent of +6 magical full plate. Yes, your DM typed "+6"! However, you determine that its primary magic is that if Maegos dies, this armor restores him while circumventing the power of Gargul to determine one's fate after death. If you destroy this armor, then Maegos will not be able to come back from death.
Moreover, you determine -- now that you are outside the demiplane -- that the magic that allows Maegos to evade Gargul's judgement is very evil in alignment.
Tishe' suggests destroying the armor and keeping the wish-stones and the telepaspikes.
Brom makes it clear that he will not be spiking his own head any time soon. He would not mind a change of scenery, though. Maybe the Culverwood?

You resolve to disintegrate the armor, and Velarin does so. It is no more.
Edson and Lanliss want to sell the spikes. That triggers a deeper look at them, especially vs permanent telepathic links.
The spikes are NOT evil. Note that they are a very useful item ... every person linked to one can use telepathy to communicate with every other person linked to one. That's just like the Telepathic Bond spell - it links all those affected so that they can have conversations.
The Telepathic Bond spell make lasting with Permanency only links two people. Even cast multiple times, if only links two each time. Unlike the spell cast alone, there is no group conversation possible, just pairs of people.
As for Barratore, he is okay with destroying the spikes and keeping the wishes.
All this talk of wishes and magic items may possibly prompt some deeper introspection ...
If you make a Know Arcana check vs DC20, then Highlight to display spoiler: {You can use a wish to alter magic items.}
If you make a Know Arcana check vs DC29, then Highlight to display spoiler: {You could use a wish to change the telepaspikes so that they function on POSSESSION, not IMPLANTATION.}
If you make a Know Arcana check vs DC25, then Highlight to display spoiler: {Heck, you could use a wish to find the name and location of the person who would give you the best price for the telepaspikes.}

[OOC: Discussion of the armor is moot. It is destroyed, per yesterday's DM Post.]
Tishe' does the hard work of talking with the locals. That's not easy because as a cluster of villages recently ruled by the Dread, the people here tend to resist authority or cower in fear. Those negative emotions will need to be unlearned, and you heroes have done a good bit of the job toward shifting things that way. Now it will take time.
Velarin explains the minutia of magic, and suggests using a wish to fix the Telepaspikes so that they work if you just have one on you, in a pocket, not lodges in your brain.
Easy-going Edson is happy to go with the flow.
Lanliss asks, what to do next? Use a wish on the Telepaspikes? Think of way to sprinkle several tons of volcanic dust over the area? Declare victory and go home? Enjoy some R&R, shopping, training, or other down time?

The Spellweaver is all for destroying the armor for all the reasons Lanliss says. “ That will take a wish. Then we use the second wish for altering the spikes that become a tattoo of a spike when laid on the skin instead of implementation. That will take a wish. Then we wish that each time Glitterrox erupts, it also covers the Mine and Villages area to help heal that land, and that’s our third wish. All three weave the tassels for this tapestry, and we call this a job well done.” Unsaid is that this solution also dismantled arguments on who-gets-a-wish.
She looks to the other Keepers for at least a majority agreement.

"Ladies and gentlemen. Now that we have unlimited communication, I would like to make a proposal. Any one of us is capable of doing what a hundred men can not, by spell, or strength, or stealth, we are the best this land has to offer. These abilities we have earned by hard work, and strength of character, and very few beings are able to achieve this level of power, no matter how bad they would like to. Let us use this power to give back to all the people of the Wold who cannot fight for themselves."
" Let us first throw a party in the Vale to thank those who gave us a home, and made us welcome. Then, let us split up and wander to the corners of the Wold, and seek out evil wherever it may hide. Now that we can communicate with one another, over any distance, should any of us find a significant threat, the rest of us are a thought away. As much as i would like to sit in my study, and drink a magnificent Elvish wine for the years to come.... I feel as if a debt needs to be paid to the gods and to fate.

A Well-Earned Respite (DM Cayzle) Monday November 4th, 2019 5:07:31 AM
Mission accomplished, our heroes take the chance for a small breather. Tishe' spends some time visiting with the people of the Cinnamon Valley. Pretty much everybody knows her, and she is greeted with smiles and handshakes everywhere she goes.
Velarin proposes throwing a party here ... and then moving about the wider Wold, wherever their talents are needed. Maybe even splitting up, since these new tattoos allow for instant communication.
Edson is not sure he sees a reason to split up, when the group is more potent collected together. He seems pretty confident in the group's ability to face down any threat.
Barratore is open to the idea of seeking out even more heroic deeds, but why split up? In the meantime, he hoofs it over to Jarlsworf to visit the WLA chapterhouse. The adminstrator of the post, Hmartin, is well known to you, and he immediately drops his other business (mostly furniture making) to have a sit-down with Barratore [and any others of the party who may have come too. I think Tishe', Brom, and Edson are members?]
He has heard word from the Pitchfork Council about your news in the Dread. Well, the former Dread. "Probably we need a new name for our northern neighbor," he says. He asks about the final resolution, and declares the wish magic to extend Glitterox's reach is genius.
Barratore asks about what's going on in the Wold. Hmartin tells you about some news he has heard ...
"There was an invasion of giants into the halfling lands between New Elenna and the Scab," he says. "I hear there was a pitched battle, but the halflings used their magic towers to pulverize the giants, like they did in the past."
"Speaking of the Scab, I hear there's a dragon making trouble up that way, and the Wardens of the southeast Culverwood have gone off to deal with it."
"Usually we chapter houses get news from each other on the regular, but it's been super quiet up north on the coast. I thought about sending word to the Sea Dragons, who so far as I can figure are sitting on their laurels and commissioning trading cards of themselves, I hear. You didn't get that story from me, but some folks just let this Dragon stuff go right to their heads. Trading cards!"
