The party moves off, out of line of sight of the mine, and discusses the next few days. You do not feel anything ... funny ... when the moment arrives, but the time at which you teleported into the past comes and goes without incidence. Now there are only one set of you in the present instant, so you are safe and no longer in danger of walking into your past selves. Whew.

You talk about purifying the land, but who in the party can do such a thing? And how?

"Between Emrys and I, we could probably cast most every spell there is. Unfortunately however, I know of no spell that would cleanse an entire large area. There is a cleric spell called Hallow that makes an area holy, but it's expensive and covers a relatively small area. The best we could probably do is ask Emrys to detect evil around the villages and see if he can find something that's a source of bad mojo. Other than that, I believe the cleansing will need to be by hand. Unless anyone has a bright idea?"

The collapsing might have to wait until tomorrow though. I didn't prepare a lot of disintegrates and elemental summoning spells for Maegos"

On the way through the mine, especially near the lake, Barratore pays special attention to the structure of the mines and caves for weak points that would aid in a large scale collapse.

If the mines are empty now of the orcs, they were not doing well last the party saw, Barratore poses not collapsing the entrance, but just multiple deeper access points. "Let the villages have the resources the mine can provide, but take steps to prevent deeper penetration as well as taking out the obelisk and the glyphs that lead you look for the glyph."

As the party plans and surveys the mine, Emrys pipes in on several observances and opinions.

"The more I think of it, caving in the mine won't do anything to help the surrounding lands. The act would be no different than sweeping dust under the rug. It will only allow a false sense of security. This Cavern of Time, a shrine of the Tucre, will remain a font of immense power that will continue to influence the surroundings. Maybe the better course is to get the Pitchfork Council involved so that the mine can be maintained and studied. What could be learned is immeasurable."

"As for removing the corruption from the land, there are many spells that can help. Velarin mentions several good ones. How about we commission several shrines, stone circles and a grove to Culverwood. Holy and Hallowed Ground works very well at influencing the land around them. I could bless the land, but that would only make it more fertile and it will need to be maintained annually."

"Barratore, that is why I recommended going to Culverheart ... I wasn't suggesting a holiday. My father would know a thing or two about how to succeed in this endeavor ... being an Archdruid, a Knight of the Realm and a retired Gold Dragon."

"Those of you who don't possess the gift of magic, don't think you're not an influence. We all carry with us the divine spark, the blood of the Living Wold. The Muse called it a Voice ... a single voice in the Grand Choir. That all our voices are part of the song. I'm not a musician, but I like the way he describes it. It's that spark why the gods crave our worship ... there's power in it. Your presence and good works will bring the change you seek."

Paradoxical Encounter? (DM Cayzle)
Sunday October 27th, 2019 11:58:57 PM

Velarin suggests a look through the mine, and in fact a sweep shows no occupancy, not even an orc is to be seen. That opens the way for a collapse ...

Barratore suggests closing access to the deeper areas, but allowing the mine to remain functional, seeing as others might use it for their livelihood.

Lanliss suggests seeking help, perhaps among the Star Mages, or from a druid.

Edson agrees that seeking outside help is a good idea.

Emrys agrees as well, and that makes a good enough consensus!

Over the next week, if the DM may be excused for advancing the action, you use your magic to seal off the deeper and more dangerous parts of the mine, so that the Time Temple is no longer accessible. You also get rid of the obelisk, most likely with a couple well-placed Disintegrates. You sense that the guild researchers are not entirely pleased, but they do not actually object. In your earshot.

You seek out a high-level druid, who is pleased to bless the area and agree to come back every year for four more years to do the same. Please mark off six grand gold for the service.

You keep the Pitchfork Council up to date, and Dulcet herself suggests sowing the blessed ash of Mount Glitterox over the area. After all, that's what keeps the Cinnamon Valley so blessed. That might prove a slightly greater challenge, so your DM will not assume it done, but see what you do with the suggestion.

Note: There is some talk of loot. I believe all has been resolved except for the telepathy spikes and the wish-orbs. You would need to find a private NPC buyer for those, probably among the rulership of a small country or among the wealthy of a large city. You have not indicted that you wish to sell these unique items yet.

The spikes - Brom doesn't plan on nailing anything into his skull. They'll be permanent and you'll be dead. That's his opinion.

There is talk of land purification, which is all beyond the young barbarian. Magic is not barbarian and big magic even less so. But a trip to Culverwood would be a nice change of pace and some place Brom had never been.

He does ask V to put a teleport spell in his ring. While things are decided, Brom wants to do a patrol around the valley.

Velarin takes the time to do a deeper analysis of Maegos's Armor. It is the equivalent of +6 magical full plate. Yes, your DM typed "+6"! However, you determine that its primary magic is that if Maegos dies, this armor restores him while circumventing the power of Gargul to determine one's fate after death. If you destroy this armor, then Maegos will not be able to come back from death.

Moreover, you determine -- now that you are outside the demiplane -- that the magic that allows Maegos to evade Gargul's judgement is very evil in alignment.

Tishe' suggests destroying the armor and keeping the wish-stones and the telepaspikes.

Brom makes it clear that he will not be spiking his own head any time soon. He would not mind a change of scenery, though. Maybe the Culverwood?

You resolve to disintegrate the armor, and Velarin does so. It is no more.

Edson and Lanliss want to sell the spikes. That triggers a deeper look at them, especially vs permanent telepathic links.

The spikes are NOT evil. Note that they are a very useful item ... every person linked to one can use telepathy to communicate with every other person linked to one. That's just like the Telepathic Bond spell - it links all those affected so that they can have conversations.

The Telepathic Bond spell make lasting with Permanency only links two people. Even cast multiple times, if only links two each time. Unlike the spell cast alone, there is no group conversation possible, just pairs of people.

As for Barratore, he is okay with destroying the spikes and keeping the wishes.

All this talk of wishes and magic items may possibly prompt some deeper introspection ...

If you make a Know Arcana check vs DC20, then Highlight to display spoiler: {You can use a wish to alter magic items.}

If you make a Know Arcana check vs DC29, then Highlight to display spoiler: {You could use a wish to change the telepaspikes so that they function on POSSESSION, not IMPLANTATION.}

If you make a Know Arcana check vs DC25, then Highlight to display spoiler: {Heck, you could use a wish to find the name and location of the person who would give you the best price for the telepaspikes.}

[OOC: Discussion of the armor is moot. It is destroyed, per yesterday's DM Post.]

Tishe' does the hard work of talking with the locals. That's not easy because as a cluster of villages recently ruled by the Dread, the people here tend to resist authority or cower in fear. Those negative emotions will need to be unlearned, and you heroes have done a good bit of the job toward shifting things that way. Now it will take time.

Velarin explains the minutia of magic, and suggests using a wish to fix the Telepaspikes so that they work if you just have one on you, in a pocket, not lodges in your brain.

Easy-going Edson is happy to go with the flow.

Lanliss asks, what to do next? Use a wish on the Telepaspikes? Think of way to sprinkle several tons of volcanic dust over the area? Declare victory and go home? Enjoy some R&R, shopping, training, or other down time?

The Spellweaver is all for destroying the armor for all the reasons Lanliss says. “ That will take a wish. Then we use the second wish for altering the spikes that become a tattoo of a spike when laid on the skin instead of implementation. That will take a wish. Then we wish that each time Glitterrox erupts, it also covers the Mine and Villages area to help heal that land, and that’s our third wish. All three weave the tassels for this tapestry, and we call this a job well done.” Unsaid is that this solution also dismantled arguments on who-gets-a-wish.

She looks to the other Keepers for at least a majority agreement.

V places his tattoo on his right forearm. Once everyone is together and relaxed, he will stand and speak.

"Ladies and gentlemen. Now that we have unlimited communication, I would like to make a proposal. Any one of us is capable of doing what a hundred men can not, by spell, or strength, or stealth, we are the best this land has to offer. These abilities we have earned by hard work, and strength of character, and very few beings are able to achieve this level of power, no matter how bad they would like to. Let us use this power to give back to all the people of the Wold who cannot fight for themselves."

" Let us first throw a party in the Vale to thank those who gave us a home, and made us welcome. Then, let us split up and wander to the corners of the Wold, and seek out evil wherever it may hide. Now that we can communicate with one another, over any distance, should any of us find a significant threat, the rest of us are a thought away. As much as i would like to sit in my study, and drink a magnificent Elvish wine for the years to come.... I feel as if a debt needs to be paid to the gods and to fate.

“Only issue I see with that plan is that you are the only one that can teleport V. If I’m stomping through the Scab and you need me in the Emerald Kingdom, I’m weeks away. And if we are all spread out how do we all get back together quickly. I do like the idea of moving on. We could use the WLA to get some rumor info on where the best places might be. “

Barratore will do just that spend some time at the WLA to work the network and what is going on about the Wold

Edson gets his tattoo on his left pectoral muscle. He heads back, listening to Velarin's proclamation.

" split up.. why? The lot of us can take anyone on.. lets go clean the planes of demons. "

Tishe’ looks worried at Edson. “Clear the planes... by the Powers! Let’s not go borrowing trouble, sweetie. It is enough for me to know that people are able to weave their own tapestries and making their own picks in peace.”

“As for temporarily splitting to pursue our own threads, it’s not completely sunbaked, but I”ll stay within a day’s walk of Creasant Valley.”

Tishe’ also makes many visits to the WLA at Jarlswolf, visits Witchspawn and Merrydale, and the crofters and farmers in between. Well, you know, besides Magpie Crossing and environs....

Mission accomplished, our heroes take the chance for a small breather. Tishe' spends some time visiting with the people of the Cinnamon Valley. Pretty much everybody knows her, and she is greeted with smiles and handshakes everywhere she goes.

Velarin proposes throwing a party here ... and then moving about the wider Wold, wherever their talents are needed. Maybe even splitting up, since these new tattoos allow for instant communication.

Edson is not sure he sees a reason to split up, when the group is more potent collected together. He seems pretty confident in the group's ability to face down any threat.

Barratore is open to the idea of seeking out even more heroic deeds, but why split up? In the meantime, he hoofs it over to Jarlsworf to visit the WLA chapterhouse. The adminstrator of the post, Hmartin, is well known to you, and he immediately drops his other business (mostly furniture making) to have a sit-down with Barratore [and any others of the party who may have come too. I think Tishe', Brom, and Edson are members?]

He has heard word from the Pitchfork Council about your news in the Dread. Well, the former Dread. "Probably we need a new name for our northern neighbor," he says. He asks about the final resolution, and declares the wish magic to extend Glitterox's reach is genius.

Barratore asks about what's going on in the Wold. Hmartin tells you about some news he has heard ...

"There was an invasion of giants into the halfling lands between New Elenna and the Scab," he says. "I hear there was a pitched battle, but the halflings used their magic towers to pulverize the giants, like they did in the past."

"Speaking of the Scab, I hear there's a dragon making trouble up that way, and the Wardens of the southeast Culverwood have gone off to deal with it."

"Usually we chapter houses get news from each other on the regular, but it's been super quiet up north on the coast. I thought about sending word to the Sea Dragons, who so far as I can figure are sitting on their laurels and commissioning trading cards of themselves, I hear. You didn't get that story from me, but some folks just let this Dragon stuff go right to their heads. Trading cards!"

"Eh, you are right Barratore. I'd skipped over the fact that I'm the only teleporter. Emrys can wind walk, But it would still cause problems. So after a little R&R, where to? Wander up the coast and check in on the lands of the sea dragons? Give the Wardens of the Culverwood some back up?"

"I really have no need for visiting the catacombs. Between the wish gems and stoneskin components, my available resources have diminished of late. But I can't think of anything I'm really needing, so no biggie there."

"I have several teleports and multiple types of expeditious travel. Word of Recall has an unlimited range, will allow multiple travelers and return you back to our sanctuary instantaneously. Then there is Wind Walking, Shadow Walking and the like. Which is your favorite flavor? We all have Spell Rings don't we?"

(Emrys had applied this tattoo to his forearm as well.)

"Should I help these halflings? Or maybe go to see the sea dragon s?", Lanliss thinks for a moment.
He throws a coin in the air.
First choice Halflings.
Second choice Sea dragons.
Lanliss says aloud, hoping to get some attention to his idea.

After seeing the result.

Lanliss looks at Hmartin and explains.
"I just throw this coin and it tells me to go North..."
Lanliss explains...
"So tell me more about the cards....are they magical? Is it some sort of a game?", Lanliss asks Hmartin in a voice with a hint of humor.

" Why not both.. lets whip the giants and head for the dragon next. Let them know we're coming to put some fear in their hearts. "

Tishe’ listens to Hmartin as she does her WLA exercises. “It sounds like the giants and dragon-making are being dealt with, although dragon-Making sounds very dangerous and maybe we should look into that.

And I’m sure the Sea Dragons have their own priorities that aren’t statues and lunchboxes,” she says with a smile. “But don’t they live in the islands south of New Elennia? What part of the north coast? Zarthmoor, that Swamp place, the Windborne Hills, or the Scab. There is a lot of ‘north coast’ to the Elennian Penninsula!”
