Bliss and Mookie (Cayzle) Thursday October 17th, 2019 9:12:31 AM
Mookie laughs out loud when Yurneshi gently reminds Bliss that he has yet to introduce himself.
Bliss laughs too and declares, "I'm Bliss! I'm a witch and a warrior, and I'm a hero in the WLA!" He shows off his WLA badge.
When Succotash shows up, Bliss whispers to him, "You're doing great! No worries." Then he introduces his old friend to these new friends. "Please let me introduce Brother Succotash, the holiest and bravest of us."
When Owen asks about the recent battle, Bliss grins. "Sure, come on, join the celebration, and we'll tell you all about it."
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Thursday October 17th, 2019 11:41:49 AM
Atlas is quite excited to see this place that he has heard so much about. The halfling way of life contains so much joy for the moment that it seeps into Atlas' bones.
As the others introduce themselves, the tall, dark haired human steps forward. His face and eyes express his excitement to be here, but he moves with a grace that you only see seasoned warriors. His voice is young and energetic as he speaks, "Hi everyone, it is nice to meet you. I'm Atlas Sunowl and I would love to join you in your celebration. We're about to go kill a dragon, so we might as well enjoy ourselves before facing our death. Is there a place where we could get food and drink and listen to your tale? I would be happy to share the story of the Wardens of the Tree of Parting if anyone is interested."
Vamir (Wade) AC:22 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 97/97 Ritual of Warding, Ritual of Spiritual Healing Thursday October 17th, 2019 4:07:13 PM
Vamir smiles as they ride into Humble's Ford, the grin on Elygael's face is contagious and the witch cant help himself. Seeing the raven Vamir's jaw drops,"Who...what..."Vamir looks back at Melzat and back at Mookie. "I have never seems a raven of his size!"
DM StevenVdB - Humble's Ford Thursday October 17th, 2019 6:37:43 PM
(DM note : Folks the board is temporarily yours. The Humbles Swords have been invited so let's hope some will join Bliss and Succotash. Do try to interact and learn from each other perhaps. Challenge each other to a duel or get drunk in the pub this evening)
Next Monday we move out again - on towards the dragon... Not sure if I handed out the XP for the Monastery encounter? If not, please ad 10.000 XP to your character sheet.

Armand eyes Succotash to try and get an idea of what he is. Knowledge Region 16 (d20+11).
Then he announces, "Yes well, I'm not sure what your celebration is but we've been on the road for a few days. I would like to make myself more presentable. Could you direct me to an inn?
Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 25 T:14, FF:21, CMD 29, HP 110/110 Thursday October 17th, 2019 9:38:23 PM
Elyngael looks at all the commotion and shrugs her shoulders,"This is not exactly what I had in mind, but as long as everyone is alright. We are free to leave for awhile, Brawn. You and I have not been wandering in a forest for enjoyment in a long time. Let's get back to Nature!" They quietly fade into the woods.
Kezzem and Rumpus Friday October 18th, 2019 12:46:09 AM
A red-haired halfling dressed in black leather and bearing the holy symbol Gargul rides up on a white pony.
"Hey Bliss, who are your friends?"
"Hi, I am Kezzem of Humble's Sword, paladin of Gargul. Don't mind Succotash here; he used to be a paladin like me, but then he took a fireball to the knee...and, wel, the rest of me. So now he's a cleric I guess? Switching classes after coming back from the dead is something of a Humble's Sword tradition."
DM StevenVdB - Humble's Ford Friday October 18th, 2019 1:47:03 AM
Keep posting through the weekend by all means folks!!
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Friday October 18th, 2019 2:41:54 AM
“Kezzem is correct, I used to be a Paladin of Pantheon, and really only considered him worth while, but after meeting Lord Gargul, I realized how amazing the other gods can be as well. Than either by a silly joke from the god of life and death, or maybe he feels I can serve my friends, and the gods better this way, I came back as a cleric of the whole Woldian Pantheon, and now I wish to spend the rest of my days getting to know the gods better, and revering them”.
Bliss and Mookie (Cayzle) Friday October 18th, 2019 9:11:53 AM
Bliss introduces the Wardens that have given their names so far, which is ... [ooc: SCROLLING] ... Atlas!
"Okay, This is Atlas, and you other guys need to tell us your names!"
When Armand asks about a place to freshen up, Bliss pauses. "If you are hungry, we'll go to the Belly Buster. If you are thirsty, The Dancing Pig. If you just want to wash and rest in peace, come to our house."
Mookie the Raven caws, laughing. "Yeah, and if you want beds long enough for you all to stretch out in, try the next country over!"
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Friday October 18th, 2019 9:43:10 AM "Oh Mookie, Succotash smiles, "You know as well as I do that we have guest rooms for just such visitors back at the Sanctuary!"
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Friday October 18th, 2019 10:41:35 AM
Atlas laughs at all the commotion then responds to Bliss, "Um, what if we want something to eat and drink? And I'm really wanting to hear this story."
As Succotash speaks Atlas grimaces a bit, "While I'm not one to revere the gods, I am thankful. I also suffered a deadly blow and spoke with Lord Gargul. He was quite godly, but also kind. I didn't change anything though, other than I'm trying a bit harder not to die again. I don't think he would look on that kindly."
Pressi and Harper (Melvin) Friday October 18th, 2019 3:46:37 PM
Elyngael doesn't travel far into the forest before coming into a clearing filled with the bodies of dead giants. Through the trees, a 200 ft iron man looms above.
Ahead on the path stands a leopard. The large cat eyes Brawn warily, sniffing with a slowly waving tail.
"Quite a night for a local walk," a female voice calls from the side. "But I must admit, I figured that most visitors would stay in the village proper. Lost, perchance? Afraid of piñatas?"
Kezzem and Rumpus Friday October 18th, 2019 5:09:45 PM
"I though you worshipped the Pantheon before? Wait, it was just one god whose name is Pantheon? I know he's a god and all, but he really should have a better name. That would be like me saying my name was Halflings."
Tali (Jon-Paul) Friday October 18th, 2019 6:51:02 PM The Wardens of the Tree of Parting Tree
As the joyous sounds of celebration and of new comers reach the ears of Tali, newly returned, Tali hovers over to see what is happening.
Approching the assembled group, Tali sees her friends, Bliss & his companion Mookie, a small group of halflings following them ; Joy, Hesitation, Comfort, and Mourning; Kezzem & Rumpus, Pressi & Harper, & Succotash Slinderstick! "Gosh, it's a great blessing to see ones friends again! Tali whispers to herself as if she might have forgotten the pleasure of speaking. As Tali hovers closer, she beings to see "Big Folks! and whispers to herself, "I wonder who they are!"
Tali flies right up to Bliss & Mookie asking him who the newcomers are. Bliss, who are your new friends?

Well before we get deemed to rude to be acceptable, Let me introduce myself and my companions for those of you who are not familiar with us.
I am Yurr’Neshi Reshka, The young golden skinned, elf lass over there is Elyngael Noldoryn and her companion, that she just sent off hunting,is named Brawn, The burly human over there is Atlas Sunowl. The young fellow with the braided hair is Lasse'Denosul but goes by 'Osul. Tall Dark and zealous over there is Armand of Waypoint. The silver-haired elf is Vamir Herven. And our middle aged, master of knowledge, and family man is Owen Marcellus.
Bliss and Mookie (Cayzle) Friday October 18th, 2019 7:53:12 PM
"And look! Yurneshi is a liontaur!" exclaims Bliss excitedly, stating what is obvious to everyone with eyes.
Then he sees his friend hovering ... "Miss Talia," the little guy asks, "are you still a ghost? I hope not!"
Mookie pecks at the halfling mage, recently returned from death. "Nope! She's really real."
"Thank goodness!" declares Mookie's master.
"ANYWAY" says Bliss, "We can't just keep guests standing here on the bridge! Come on!"
Bliss decides to lead the entire party to the Belly Buster, because in his not-so-humble opinion, food trumps drink, unless you are a dwarf, and none of these folks look like dwarves to him.
"Once we get settled with a few courses under our belts," he says, "we can trade stories. Then later, we'll have a feast."
(On the way, he sends his followers off to change the sheets and get the big beds ready. And to lay in breakfast foods for the morning. Especially bacon.)
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Saturday October 19th, 2019 1:45:00 PM
When Succotash realizes that Bliss is leading everyone to the Belly Buster, he looks to Atlas and quickly mentions, "Don't worry they serve excellent ales and, as well as grand food, I mean we are halflings after all! If you leave the dinner table hungry or thirsty, then that's your fault."
Vamir (Wade) AC:22 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 97/97 Ritual of Warding, Ritual of Spiritual Healing Saturday October 19th, 2019 9:07:30 PM
Vamir nods his head when he is introduced, and waves. A face clearly not used to smiling manages a small one, as the young witch entices Melzat to show himself. "This is Melzat, my most recent traveling companion, and Zaita, my life long friend. Introduce yourselves it appears as though we are among new friends!"
Melzat waves his willowy arms, and manages to stammer,"He...hel... hello" before disappearing behind Vamir's legs again. Melzat chuckles softly, as Zaita enlarges on the seat of the cart,"Hello, I am Zaita. I served his mother before him, and now travel with The Wardens. "
Vamir flicksnthe reins, and the cart starts rolling forward, "I would love a bite to eat, and a warm bath but I need to see to Ol' Jaza here. He has done a days work and needs a run down, and some fresh feed."

Owen follows along as the group heads to the Belly Buster. He speaks up after Yurneshi introduces everyone: "It's nice to meet you all! I'm Owen, the Loremaster of the Wardens. I'm not as handy in a fight as Atlas, but if you need to know obscure things I'm your man."
Kezzem and Rumpus Sunday October 20th, 2019 12:25:04 PM
"Greetings everyone. Shame you are arriving now--we could have used you guys not that long ago," says Kezzem. "We had to fight a giant invasion AND cultists of Skald at the same time. That's when we lost the use of our Iron Giant, and both Succotash and Talia died."
Kezzem pauses for a moment.
"They got better."
Bliss and Mookie (Cayzle) Sunday October 20th, 2019 6:15:30 PM
During the feast, Bliss is happy to tell the whole story.
Okay, so we're protected from giants from the Scab by magic towers that keep them out. Well, one of our towers went ker-plooey about a year ago, and we've been busy fighting off two invasionsuntil we could get it fixed up.
Well, we were almost done with the repairs when a huge invasion sent hundreds or maybe thousands of giants into our valley. Like Sir Kezzem was saying, when we were split up and on the defensive, these cultists attacks us with invisibility and darkness, ambushed us, killed two of us, and nearly ruined everything. But we managed to repair the tower at the last second, which ended the invasion, and then we got together and chased them off, killing one of them, an antipaladin.
Then we visited Gargul and got our dead back. That's Miss Talia and Brother Succotash there.
So that was the big battle, and now we are celebrating. You came just in time for the party!
After some more food and drink. Bliss has a question. "So, you guys are off to fight a dragon. Are you stocked up on dragonbane stuff? Got your energy resistance maxed out? How big and old is the one you are fighting? You know Dragon Bay is just over yonder 20-30 miles. Tell us more!"
Yurneshi (Kent) AC:25 (21) / T(23)17 / F(20)16; HP: 85/85 CMD: 24 energy resistance 20 fire, spell resistance, Mage armor, Bless, Sunday October 20th, 2019 7:43:55 PM
'Neshi finds all the haflings' energy humorous as well as a bit tiring, but cant help but be impressed by their recent difficulties and victory.
"Well we actually do not know much about this dragon other than it apparently breathes fire. So we are assuming that it is a red Dragon, oh and female. It also apparently doesn't like to d her own dirty work. Instead she is holding an enclave/village of Duergar hostage and making them gather treasure for her. Or so we hear. That and a general direction is about all we have/know at this point."
Neshi looks around at the others to see if he left anything out.
Vamir (Wade) AC:22 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 97/97 Ritual of Warding, Ritual of Spiritual Healing Sunday October 20th, 2019 8:18:50 PM
Vamir nods as Neshi hits the high points, "Well, we have , um...well...I don't have a clue what we need. I've never fought a dragon, and the few stories told me when I was younger don't mention the preparation adventurers took. Any advice you might have would be fantastic!" Vamir reaches for another roll, and absentmindedly reaches down to pet Melzat.
Tali (Jon-Paul) Sunday October 20th, 2019 9:39:33 PM
As Bliss relates the story of the visit of Lord Gargul and of his friends being resurrected, Tali waves towards Bliss upon hearing her name.
"Bliss, you left out the part about the 250' tall Iron Giant!" says Tali.
DM Jeremy Monday October 21st, 2019 5:55:27 AM
There is much merry making as the Tree Wardens, and Humble's Sword enter the Belly Buster. At the request of the Swords, a back room is made ready, so that the two groups of heroes can have some privacy. As the Biguns, which is how the good halfling, of the Crescent Valley, refer to those races, taller than themselves, enter the Belly Buster, and are ushered into the back room, Many a curious Halfling turns to watch, and when they see the Swords with them, well, that only increases there curiosity.
After a moment or two, the wait staff, enter and bring in two kegs, one stamped "Brock's Best Beer", and the other "Brock's Delicious Hard Cider", as well as two large decanters of wine, one red, and the other white, both of fine vintage. A few moments after the drinks arrive, they begin to bring in the food. Cart after cart piled high with various savory dishes. Nothing overly elaborate, just darn good food, and lots of it, but what else would you expect while being entertained by Halflings. The table is sized medium sized creatures with comfortable chairs, as well as equally comfortable stools for the smaller folk. There is even a large plush pillow for Neshi to recline on while dinning. When it comes to comfort, Halflings try to think of everything.
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Monday October 21st, 2019 6:33:54 AM
Succotash pours himself a flagon of Brock's Best Beer, than takes a seat at the table. he looks around and notices that Pressi and Elyngael are missing, and not wanting them to miss out, he asks Bliss and Talia if one of them would be willing to send Pressi a message letting her know it's dinner time, and asks if any of the Wardens have the ability to do likewise for Elyngael.
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Monday October 21st, 2019 2:00:56 PM
Atlas listens intently to the story of the giants, cultists, and the battle. "That's quite the story! I'm glad to see that you saved this curious place and the brave defenders that fell doing so." He takes a moment to get a plate put together with some of his favorites and begins to dig in. Between bites he answers about the dragon, "We don't know too much really. I think they said it was a red dragon and her name is Temorianlis. Heard of her? We do have a Dragon Bane spear, but honestly I'm trained in the longsword. Even with the dragon bane I don't think I can do as much as I can with my sword."
Atlas takes a few more bites, waiting to see if they know anything about Temorianlis.
Armand (Robert D) AC 23/touch11/flat 21 HP 88/88 CMD 22 Character Sheet Monday October 21st, 2019 5:24:13 PM
Armand keeps quite and contemplates the ways of Lord Gargul. He realizes he has been negligent in not seeing to the proper prayer/receptions to the Warden's slain opponents. He will have to correct that in the future. But he is somewhat taken aback by Gargul's resurrection of a slain hero and said hero having to take a new career path. It seems a waste of talent that has already been used to hone one's skills. He is deeply troubled and thus goes off to a corner to eat and think.

Vamir eats just to the point of groaning, "That was amazing!" Vamir nods his head to his hosts as he continues to listen to the conversation going around him.
Pressi and Harper (Melvin) Monday October 21st, 2019 8:05:43 PM
Sometime after deciding that this person that broke off isn't a threat or interesting, a young female halfling finally made her way to the festivities.
Clad in her black and navy evening dress, a number of followers in her wake and her leopard by her side, Pressi walked through the room as if a foot taller. She shook hands, joked around, and ultimately found the wine.
"Well, what's this now?" she said as she made her way to all the humans and elves. Her smile was friendly, mostly masking how much she studies each of the newcomers. "All these halflings aren't bothering you fine folk, are they?"
To her own group, "My apologies. Last minute cleanup stuff, but I am here to relax now."
Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 25 T:14, FF:21, CMD 29, HP 110/110 Monday October 21st, 2019 8:15:15 PM
Elyngael is so engrossed by the 200 foot tall statue she momentarily shuts out everything around her. Then she notices the dead giants just lying around. "Come on Brawn I think we may want to talk to the group about this." She returns to the village and enters the inn. The large wolf, Brawn, just yawns largely and eyes the floor for tidbits.
Yurneshi (Kent) AC:25 (21) / T(23)17 / F(20)16; HP: 85/85 CMD: 24 energy resistance 20 fire, spell resistance, Mage armor, Bless, Monday October 21st, 2019 9:33:15 PM
Neshi digs in to the best meal he has had in days even quaffing a couple of large ciders as well, while listening to the discussions going on around him.
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Monday October 21st, 2019 9:51:06 PM
Atlas decides to use the cider to wash down his dinner. "What a fabulous surprise this adventure has taken. In only a few short hours I feel like I've made a few friends for life. Then again, who knows how long this life will last. Anyone have a tip on where we can buy some fire resistance potions?"
Owen Marcellus (Weston W.) AC: 16/12/14; DR 10/Adamantine; HP: 71/71; CMD: 17 Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 12:19:18 AM
Owen drinks some cider and eats heartily. "Tell us more about the Iron Giant! It sounds fascinating."
Kezzem and Rumpus Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 12:20:46 AM
"Are you sure it was 250 feet tall Talia? It doesn't look an inch over 249 to me!" says Kezzem.
"Hey Armand, you're a cleric of Gargul? I'm a paladin of Gargul! Did you die and come back in his service like me or were you born a priest? Well, probably not born one, but I've seen some strange things. I literally saw a pig fly! I mean, it had a magic carpet, but still!"
DM Jeremy Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 5:32:17 AM
Stories are passed around as freely as the food. Questions are asked, and some are answered, as the two groups of heroes gain from one another. Two late comers arrive in the forms of Pressi and Elyngael, and they join right in. This looks like it may be a long night, but then again, with good food and drink, and budding friendships, what else would be expected.
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 5:55:18 AM
As everyone digs into the feast, Succotash also fills his plate, (3 or 4 times, OK 6 times) As an after dinner beverage he pours himself a cider, and sits and listen. When Atlas ask about potions of fire resistance, Succotash pipes up saying, "We have a entrance to the Catacombs here, it's at our general store, we can surely guide you their in the morning". When Kezzem mentions the flying carpet, Succotash sighs and says, I miss that thing, apparently that disappeared along with my Paladin gear and skills, but I can cast Fly now, as well as Teleport, and a whole list of other cool spells!" (Travel Domain) Succotash notices Armand's discomfort at all the talk about Gargul sending dead people back with different abilities, and decides to try to explain. "Brother Armand I see you are struggling with the fact that some of us members of Humble's Sword were changed by the god of life and death, when he brought us back from life. I can't speak for Kezzem or Bliss, but since it was such a resent experience for me, I'll share my experience. I'll admit that at first I thought it was some kind of sick joke, played on me by Lord Gargul, but after a few weeks, as I came to understand my new role, and abilities, I realized it was a gift from the gods, and apparently they know things I didn't at the time, such as how much I would like being a cleric, possibly even more then I enjoyed being a Paladin".
Bliss and Mookie (Cayzle) Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 10:11:52 AM
Bliss does not have anything to add to the Gargul discussion. He has issues.
But he does figure out that one of the visitors has a rep as the heavy hitter of the group.
"Hey Mister Armand," Bliss says, "You're a good fighter, right? Did you know that we are having a Tourney in the morning, as part of the celebration? Nonlethal damage only! We even have some metamagic rods of merciful spell to hand out to the casters. We got masterwork saps for anyone who wants one, too. I already have a merciful tear, so I got a leg up on the rest of you bums!" He seems to feel that a little trash talking is appropriate.
Bliss looks around. "Anyone else interested in a pretend-fight? It'll be fun! It's gonna be a Grand Melee! A free-for-all!"
Mookie looks up from his plate of worms. "What about prizes?!"
[OOC: If most of you Wardens are interested in joining the Tourney (or just watching and commenting), then we'll run it as an actual fight, round by round, per my earlier discussion with your kindly DM. If yes, then Bliss will post the rules of the Tourney tomorrow. So if you are in it to win it, speak up!]
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 11:10:10 AM
It takes everything Atlas can muster to contain himself when Bliss calls Armand a good fighter, but he holds it in long enough to see where he was going with it. However, the more he hears the more excited he gets. When there is a pause he injects, "Bliss, that sounds like something I would certainly like to take part in! That is, if Armand is willing to take it easy on me. He's quite the force when on the battlefield." Atlas' smile is as broad as it can be as he looks at Armand.
Hobie Browncloak -The greatest archer in all the wold Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 3:19:37 PM
There is a big woooooosh and a puff of smoke, and suddenly a Halfling is standing on the table. He is clad in what you might call a cowboy hat, a green jacket, and a pair of dragon skin boots. You can also see at his hip a dragon skin quiver, packed full of arrows.
With his left hand he is holding a bow proudly over his head, showing it off to all. It is a dark yew bow, with a string made of fine spider silk. On its back can be seen the engraved word “Prowler”.
“Bliss is arranging a fight huh? Well good luck! Prowler here is a +4 Merciful Longbow, I dare any one of you to test my mettle. You’ll be flat on your back before you can even scratch ole HOBIE BROWNCLOAK!!”
He reaches down and grabs an ale with his left hand, and proudly pumps his bow in the air as he chugs the drink.
He jumps off the table and grabs an empty seat while saying “Haha!! Welcome to Humble’s Ford, Friends!!”
Armand (Robert D) AC 23/touch11/flat 21 HP 88/88 CMD 22 Character Sheet Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 5:59:42 PM OOC, I'd rather move on with our story than do the tourney at Humbles Ford. Especially considering the Humble's Ford crowd should be a couple of levels higher than us, it really would not be a contest of any sort.
Armand looks at Atlas. "Hmm. Well I think the threat of more duergar wandering around causing trouble as they try to appease the dragon that has come into their realm is a more serious threat for us to handle." He nods to those in the Inn. "This place seems well guarded, but how many more monasteries are out there with no protection?" He asks of Atlas.
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 6:24:18 PM "Fashionably late as usual, my friend", Succotash laughs as he pours and hands Hobie a beer, "But I'm not sure about the theatrics".

IC: Owen grins at Bliss' challenge. "Hold on, Armand. You might be all prepared, but I've got some new spells I might like to test out on these Humble folks! I doubt they've ever seen how a Loremaster fights."
Vamir (Wade) AC:22 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 97/97 Ritual of Warding, Ritual of Spiritual Healing Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 8:14:41 PM
Vamir is almost dizzy, turning from voice to voice. Once again Vamir becomes aware of his lack of experience in this world of adventuring. The witch is overwhelmed with the noise, and bravado of the people around the table. Vamir's ears perk up at the idea of a tournament, but realizing he lacks any true experience doesn't speak up. As the halfling appears on the table Vamir stands up suddenly, and backs away. Hearing the laughter, Vamir continues to back up, and eventually finds himself near the edge of the forest.
Pressi and Harper (Melvin) Tuesday October 22nd, 2019 8:27:01 PM
Watching Hobie, "Yeah, I could have done that I suppose. I blew my chance trying to do the Yoda thing with your wandering forest guy. Boy, does he take some time to react. So, uh, here I am...."
At first, Pressi was willing to keep out of the tournament, even if they were so foolish as to allow "non-damage" spellcasting. And even if she was pretty sure she could outgun Hobie personally. (OOC: We are really going to have to go over some ground rules.)
But at Owen's response, she let out a polite gasp. "A Loremaster with new spells? Somehow, I think I can take some guesses at how you might approach the situation. If so many are in, than I suppose I could join in as well."
As she gets up for more drink (you may notice she eats rather little for a halfling but drinks enough for a dwarf), she "accidentally" tips open her bag, showing her dragon leather buckler to the group. "To build on Succotash's answer, we do have some herbalists and potion makers in the town as well. It can be tough to face a dragon unprepared."

Elyngael walks into the merrymaking to talk to Armand. "There are dead giants around that huge iron statue. I don't know what that means, and I don't understand our sudden disregard for those who may be in danger. We're partying while all around us are duergar, a dragon, and something killing giants - isn't that enough to concern everyone?'

At Elyngael’s concerns, Pressi’s laughter can be heard across the room.
“Why yes, something that can kill an entire army of giants is to be feared, and perhaps well tipped for its hospitality. Maybe a few complements for how it dresses, too.”
Hobie Browncloak -The greatest archer in all the wold Wednesday October 23rd, 2019 3:02:31 AM
At Pressi's response to Elyngael Hobie chimes in as well. He pulls out one of his arrows and holds it toward Elyngael
"Haha that's right! did your elf eyes happen to see arrows like these sticking out of those giants? You have nothing to fear as long as you are with us. Except maybe you should fear us!"
DM Jeremy Wednesday October 23rd, 2019 5:46:41 AM
The feasting and merry making continues. Bliss throws down the gauntlet, and invites the Tree Wardens to participate in the tournament scheduled for the next day. Some of the Wardens are in others not so much, with Vamir riding the fence between excitement and concern over his inexperience. Elyngael is concerned after seeing the battlefield, with many dead giants still left unburied, though she did see evidence of excavation, that coupled with the rampaging duergar, and the dragon, she has a hard time making merry. Pressi and Hobie allude to the fact that they were part of the reason for the dead giants.
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Wednesday October 23rd, 2019 6:15:02 AM
Succotash with his new found wisdom, tries to explain the situation with the dead giants to Elyngael more completely.
Miss Elyngael you were absent when Bliss shared the story of the recent invasion, so I'll recap for you to help assuage your concerns. You see miss, living in the Scab are many giants that have a love for halfling meat. which is why we halflings built the giant towers years ago. The giant towers use magic that only harms giants, and giantkin, and when I say harm I mean it kills them. Well, about a year ago, the exact time alludes me, as I wasn't living here yet, but one of the towers, the one closest to Humble's Ford Malfunctioned, and exploded, opening the Crescent Valley to invasion. Well, about a month ago, some dwarves from the scab who, we found out, worship Skald, and they had this Iron Giant battle fortress they were planning on using to free Skald, but before they did, they wanted to test the Giants destructive power out on Humble's Ford. Well, long story short, we defeated the cultist, and took the Iron Giant for ourselves. one of our local wizards discovered that the magic that powered the Giant was the same magic that powered the Giant Towers, and she devised a plan to use the Giant to recharge the tower. Well of course, the giants chose that time to invade, but we were able to hold them off until the tower was functional again, which ended the invasion, but it cost us the Iron Giant, which I'm sure you saw, pretty hard to miss actually. The good people of Humble's Ford have been working tirelessly to bury all the bodies, but it takes a while to bury that many giants, and only now weeks after the battle, have we decided to take a break and celebrate the victory, and our salvation. I understand why you struggle to make merry, your fight is still around the corner, while ours is in the past.

Atlas moans at the words of the others, "There will always be bad things happening and if we don't take time to enjoy ourselves every now and again then we're going to lose who we are. However, I'll admit that this threat is more immediate to innocents that do not have protection like the good folks of this city. If you think leaving now will save lives then we don't have a choice, we must go." He throws down the last of his cider and plucks the last piece of meat off his plate and shoves it in his mouth while standing. He works words around the food in his mouth as he does so, "Dawng it, I was weally enwoying it here. Bwlss, Succowash, aw of you, I am grawteful for is chance meeing. I look forwar to our pass crossing again soon." He looks at them with hope, but also realizes that they may not have understood a word he said with all that meat in his mouth still. He swallows the remaining and finishes his thought more clearly, "Maybe after we kill the dragon we can come back and have another celebration and tournament?"
Hobie Browncloak -The greatest archer in all the wold Wednesday October 23rd, 2019 1:02:21 PM

This is our chance to practice, to have some fun, and to learn from folks who know what they're doing. We might be going to our deaths in fighting this dragon, who knows? Let's have some fun with new friends before we go."
He wraps up his little speech, but can't resist a joke and a wink: "Remember, Atlas, that you've been working on not rushing into danger."

Vamir pulls a wooden potion vial from his belt and rolls it in his rough hands, Melzat sighing contentedly beside him. After a few minutes Vamir stands, his spine stiff and erect. Vamir motions to Melzat, who uproots himself and pads along softly beside the witch.
Vamir strides back to the table, and looks around the table. "Armand, no matter how much we rail against death, she is resolute, and will not be denied her prey. We don't have to love her, but eventually we all fall to her grasp. Yes, we rode instead of teleporting to the mine. We do not know if that played a part in the deaths of the villagers or not. Yes there is a dragon out there, and Duergar, and giants, and liches, and all matter of evil, despicable beings, should we never take the opportunity for a little merriment? There will always be evil to fight, but there might not always be a friend to jest with. "Good luck!" says Bliss, more sincerely than his cynical spirit companion.
DM Jeremy Thursday October 24th, 2019 5:58:50 AM
Some of the Wardens struggle with the idea of making merry when their objective is so dire, while others have a more let's eat and drink for tomorrow we die attitude. Of course both opinions are valid considering what is ahead, but when Atlas becomes the voice of reason, a voice filled with meat, but the voice of reason none the less, one has no choice but to listen. In the end, Bliss suggests a rematch, after the dragon has been slain, and so the chatting, drinking, and dinning continue through the night, until Succotash stands up and says, "Ladies and gentlemen, our new friends will no doubt wish to rise early as they have a dire journey ahead of them, and we members of Humble's Sword need to be at our best for the tournament. Let us make the short trip to our Sanctuary, and turn in for the night"
Succotash and the other members of Humble's Swords lead the Wardens just outside of town, towards a compound protected by a stone wall. as they pass through the gate they are greeted by a awakened tree and a trent, who upon seeing the halflings go about their merry way. Succotash and company lead the wardens to the largest of the multiple buildings, and Succotash himself leads them to their bedrooms. He bids them good night and then leaves them to their sleep. The rooms and especially the beds are extremely comfortable, and the Warden's sleep better then they have in what seems a very long time.
In the morning, the Wardens are treated to what seems to be a grand breakfast, but is reality is just an average halfling breakfast, when the meal is done, the Swords follow the Wardens out of the compound to say their farewells.
Succotash Slenderstick (Jeremy C) Thursday October 24th, 2019 6:17:07 AM
As the Wardens are making ready to leave, Succotash remembers something, ask them to wait a moment, then dashes off only to return a few moments later with a sack over his shoulder. He pulls out six wooden smoking pipes, and six large leather tobacco pouches. He explains that the pouches are filled with the Wold famous long bottom leaf, and welcomes them to come back for a refill anytime, and then gives one of each to each of the Wardens. He then reaches back into the sack and pulls out twelve potion vials, and hands two to each of the Wardens and says, My cousin Fredric over at Merrydale sent these to me as a gift, but I think you need them more than I do considering what you guys are up against", He thinks for a moment and then adds, "Fredric is a level 15 cleric and he brewed these potions of cure serious wounds himself, so they should be helpful. Oh and be on the look out for giants as you enter the Scab, if you see any, they probably won't be to happy!"
OOC... the pipes and tobacco have no value but are a gift unique to the area, and the potions are brewed at level 15 and are worth 2250 each.

And just like that, the Wardens are back on the trail. As the Wardens are nearing the northern edge of the Crescent Valley, they see the row of "Giant Towers" built at 1 mile intervals. The towers themselves are unassuming looking much like watch towers, but without windows. They also see the "Iron Giant", now not but a playhouse for halfling children as all it's magic was lost restoring the tower. Of course Elyngael has already seen this, along with the dead bodies of the giants that haven't been buried yet, as well as mounds of fresh earth which you would easily surmise are places that giants have been buried.
Now well into the foot hills of the Scab, with the Crescent Valley, Giant Towers, and Iron Giant well out of sight, the trail begins to wind back and forth, as it cuts through rocky terrain, and the going gets tougher, as the trail turns into difficult terrain, (1/2 land speed) though the trail averages around 10 to 15 feet wide consistently.

With half the party noticing the moved boulders, The Wardens move with more caution realizing something big could be around any of the multiple switchbacks, as the trail continues to wind back and forth. The Wardens find the difficult hilly terrain slowing switching over to difficult mountainous terrain, as they make it into the Scab proper. The trip thus far seems to have taken much more time than it ought to have, and you realize that is due to both the winding nature of the trail as well as the fact that you can only travel at 1/2 your normal speed while on foot.

Meanwhile, his friends' eyes are drawn to the area that the one mentioned, and they also stand up, though they don't have time to pick up any rocks. Due to Vamir’s unexpected distraction, you have the jump on the enemy, and they are flat footed against everyone except Vamir.
Elyngael notices the commotion that Vamir has created. She uses the distraction to take a 5' step (for line of sight) to her right and casts Entangle into the center of the group of giants. She screams "Danger!!!" at the top of her lungs as she readies an arrow.

Neshi drops a fireball on the giants, but the spell has no effect on them. After a brief discussion on the rules board, everyone, myself included, felt that the giants should lose their dex bonus for sure, but since they aren’t really grappled, other penalties shouldn’t apply. Sadly, Fire Giants have negative dex already so in this instance they won’t gain any penalties other than the inability to move,
Armand reminds Neshi that Vamir told everyone that these are Fire Giants, and are immune to fire. He offers the giants a chance to surrender.
Owen casts crushing despair on the fire giants. Only yellow fails his save and is affected.
Elyngael makes it clear that to her thinking, the giants already had a chance to surrender, and since they are trying to break themselves free, she sees that as her answer, and continues firing on Mr. Green Jeans. As mentioned in answer to Kents query, they would lose their dex bonus, if they had one, but since they don’t, there is no effect on their AC.
Atlas follows Elyngaels que, and unleashes a torrent of pain on the yellow giant.
Confusion results: Yellow starts singing a lullaby, in giant of course, while blue hits himself inflicting 11 damage Red, green, and orange look as though they were considering Armands terms for surrender, but with the attacks that followed, they steel their resolve and continue to try to smash themselves free while Red says to the others in giant, Highlight to display spoiler: {”See, I told you the smaller races can’t be trusted, that’s why I say, they are really only good for one thing, and that’s filling our bellies!”}

Armand sighs. "Gargul take your souls." He pauses, then mutters. "This is about to get messy."
Armand casts Blade Barrier, in a circle, so that it hits everyone of them on the inner-side of their bodies. Thus leaving the outer side for Atlas to swing at and Elyngael to shoot at.
Blade Barrier evoked so that they are in it, reflex save for half damage, I don't think they can use Reflex save to be on one side of it or the other, since they can't move. Reflex save is 21. Damage is 43....this round, it will last 12 minutes.

The remaining Giant breaks down and sobs, and it's obvious it's not out of joy for being alive. Not being able to move he simply looks at the red giant and says, "Rupert I told you this whole thing was wrong. I know what you said about the mountain giants forcing our small band to join in the invasion, but maybe if we would have ran away sooner, or simply not shown up at the summoning place none of this would have happened". Turning to the Wardens, and in particular Armand, the giant says, "My name is Ruffas, that one was my brother Rupert, then there was Johhanna, Gremler, and Claus. You call us evil, and maybe that's true, never really thought about it, and quite frankly I'm not even sure what it means to be evil, we just kind of lived our lives, minding our own, if you follow me, Than a mountain giant chieftain shows up at out small enclave and says the giants of the Scab will be invading the Crescent Valley, saying that the tower near Humble's Ford isn't working. Well, none of us wanted to go, but well, as Rupert said, mountain giants aren't to be ignored, so off we go, only to lose most of our 20 some fire giant warriors in the battle, leaving only the 5 of us, who somehow made it out alive. I know there were other giants, fire hill, stone, and such who were thrilled at the chance to eat halfling, but to be honest our band tended to prefer eating things like goat and cattle. can't say as I ever remember eating anything with an intelligent brain, in spite of what Rupert said in his frustration and anger, I know he was the same. Anyway, we were making our way to the Fire Queen in hopes of finding refuge from the halflings' wrath, and well, Rupert sees an elf flying on a broom, and picks up a rock to defend us if needed, and well, you know what happened next". After his ramble, Ruffas breaks into more sobbing at his loss. than turns to the Wardens and says, "Maybe the greatest mercy would have been to finish me off", than more sobbing. "I know this sounds crazy, as I'm usually the first to say that evil needs to be destroyed, but Owen is right. Sometimes things don't fit their stereotype. We should find out before we kill." Atlas hesitates, then asks Armand, "Should we see about talking to Gargul and bringing his brother back? I know, it's crazy stupid, but I kind of feel bad. We should do what is right and if this giant speaks true then that would be the right thing to do. Can someone tell if he's telling the truth?"

He walks over to the giant and casts Stone Shape, freeing him.

Elyngael watches and listens to the giant's pleas, and to the reactions of the various Wardens. She gets their attention, "Nature is harsh. It is kill or be killed most of time. We cannot continue to doubt our actions or we will be crippled and useless. We don't have time to interview known threats. It could be us pleading for life as easily as this fire giant." Elyngael walks over to Atlas "I feel bad every time I kill a living thing. Can a raging tiger speak for itself? I can't take the time to find out who deserves to eat that day. Maybe Armand's God can make those decisions, but I'm not that wise and powerful. I just know that I want to live." El sits down with her head in her hands and Brawn gently leans into her.

Atlas feels bad for the Ruffas as he shares his story, and is beginning to second think the stereotypes associated with certain creatures. Neshi offers to free Ruffas, before Owen uses stone shape to free the giant. Armand prays for wisdom on how to proceed, and whether or not it was Rupert's time to go, he also asks Ruffas for clarification about the fire queen. Elyngael is the voice of reason, as she reminds everyone that in this kill or be killed life you have chosen, when you choose to become adventurers, you don't always have time to ask if they are bad or not.
Armand is filled with a feeling that Rupert and the rest are actually happy to be where they are, and even though he doesn’t understand why, at the moment, the words, ”Honor has been restored” flashes through his brain.
The moment Ruffas is free he steps over to his brothers body and kneels down to kiss his forehead in farewell. When Armand offers to intercede for the fallen giant Ruffas' eyes brighten a bit, but then he says, ”I don’t know how kindly Lord Gargul would take to us. You see, we acted dishonorably when we fled the battlefield at Humble’s Ford. True we never wanted to be there, but to flee in the face of battle, to us that is a grave sin. As to the Fire Queen, though I would never call her my queen, and neither would have my companions, she is the Red Dragon Temorianalis, and that is what her loyal followers call her. We were hoping to find safety in the shadow of her lair, though the thought of truly aligning with one such as her, seems to me more unsavory than joining the invasion, but fear for one's life often leads to rash choices”

Armand pops up from his prayers. "Ruffas, Lord Gargul has heard my prayers and responded. He said to inform you that 'Honor has been restored.' Further, Rupert and the others are at peace." Armand is almost beside himself that Lord Gargul responded to him.
Upon hearing who the Fire Queen is and Ruffas's thoughts on joining her Armand speaks up as diplomatically and persuasively as he can. "Ruffas from what you have told us about yourself I don't believe you would be happy joining the Fire Queen. I feel her ideology and yours would clash and you would find yourself again unhappy and doing things that you were trying to avoid when you joined this giant raiding party. Might I suggest an alternative. A few days travel southward from here there is a monastery that is willing to accept any willing to learn a new path in life. Brother Plieophus is the current leader. Owen informs Ruffas just how rash seeking refuge with “The Fire Queen” would have been, and asks if he would be willing to act as a guide, making sure to let him know that if he needs time to grieve, he should do what he needs to do.
Atlas nods his agreement to Owens words, and then offers an awkward but heartfelt apology.
Armand is ecstatic that Lord Gargul answered his prayer and shares the response with Ruffas. He then goes on to let Ruffas know how distasteful it would be for one such as him to be aligned with Temorianalis, and suggests life at the monastery. He offers to help build cairns over the bodies, and teach Ruffas the proper way to send people off to Gargul.
Vamir puts away his broom, as little Melzat approaches and asks Vamir if they are good, to which Vamir answers “We are trying”
Neshi keeps an eye on the perimeter looking for unwanted guests.
Elyngeal thanks Melzat for his concern, and answers, ”Things are better, and working towards good” She then tells him that he is good to Vamir, much like Brawn is to her.
In response to Owen’s words, Ruffas says, ”It seems that for good or bad, we were destined to meet”. Though he holds off on answering his question until after Armand speaks. With tears of joy in his eyes, at hearing about the state of his brother and friends, Ruffas says, ”The monastery sounds nice, but I dare not approach the Crescent Valley, those towers aren’t as merciful to my kind as you are, and I really don’t want to have another run in with the halflings, however, before I can find a peaceful life I must restore my honor. My kin restored theirs in death, I must do so in life! I will guide you to the dragon’s lair, and if you will allow, help you fight the fiend”. Vamir explains to Elyngael how Melzat and Zaita help fill the voids left by departed loved ones, and admires the family like interactions of the Wardens making it clear that he desires that as well, letting her know how hard losing one of them would be to him. He also thanks Elyngael for her kindness.
Elyngael tells Vamir he has a good heart, and shares that each of the Wardens have a different skill set and temperament, and because of that when they work together they can accomplish great things. She tells him she hopes that the Wardens can help fill the voids in his life, then Her and Brawn get to work. Brawn on guard duty, and her helping build the cairns.
Owen says he is going to cast seeming on the party, making it look like that the Wardens are Ruffas’ captives.
With everyone pitching in, the cairns go up rather quickly, in spite of the large size of the occupants. Though it does help that half of their bodies were already buried. When the work is complete, it’s rapidly approaching dark, though there is still plenty of time to set up camp. Ruffas suggest the shelter of the nearby ruins, and points at the half standing ruins of what at one time must have been a decent sized community of giants. When you arrive at the ruins, you are able to find one of the buildings, apparently a personal residence, that has a relatively intact roof, and sturdy stone walls, though the wooden door is long rotted away.

Atlas finds a spot and gets comfortable. He is tired from a hard day of travel, as well as fighting and hauling rocks. He’s quieter than normal but it has been a weird day.
Armand asks Ruffas if he knows anything about the giant ruins, and then gets a couple hours of sleep, and than chills the rest of the night.
Elyngael and Brawn are glad for the shelter and for the distance from the cairns. She looks forward to a fresh start in the morning.
Owen does some spell prep, than takes his watch, before settling in for the night.
Ruffas answers Armand, “Truthfully, I know very little about the place. What we, and by we I mean my fallen loved ones, were able to piece together from exploring the ruins is that a Storm Giant community lived here once”. “We deciphered that when we noticed all the different symbols, carved into the stone”, he says as he points out an image of a lightning bolt, that would have been exquisitely carved in the rock over the door, as they entered the building the Wardens chose to take shelter for the night. ”Storm Giants tend to be goodly people, and for some reason, after the whole fiasco in the Crescent Valley, we found comfort here, and even considered rebuilding and making the place our home after things have settled down”. “As far as the age, we estimated that the Storm Giants must have left here around a hundred years ago or so, and we assume that they left at their own choosing based on the fact that we weren’t able to find any skeletal remains”. “When the settlement was established I couldn’t tell you, but based on the size of the place the Storm Giants must have been here for quite some time”.
The evening passes without any disturbances. During his watch, Owen spotted a couple of rabbits scampering about, while during his, Atlas and Armand heard the distinct hoot of a great horned owl that was perched somewhere above there current location. Elyngael heard some coyotes howling in the distance, while things were quiet during Vamir, and Neshi’s watches.
Around midnight, it begins raining, a nice gentle rain, making the Wardens and Ruffas thankful for the roof over their heads. The rain is soothing, the kind that leads to a good nights sleep, and settles the dust. It also washes away the grime of battle, and when the morning breaks with into a bright sunny day, the Wardens are refreshed and ready to take on what the Wold has in store for them.

Due to the nature of the upcoming event, Owen prepares different spells than normal, and gives the Wardens a heads up.

As you get even closer, you realize that the mountain leading up to the cavern is in fact a 200ft sheer rock face. You are currently about 100ft from the rock wall.

Yurneshi can see the ledge and mentions that he could teleport at least some of the party to the top.
Vamir agrees that making a base camp would be wise, then asks Atlas if he could carry Melzat as he wouldn’t be able to on his broom.
Armand laments that he didn’t prepare airwalk, suggesting that he could tomorrow if the Wardens wanted to wait a day. He also agrees that they should leave the horses behind. He looks to see if they are missing something as the duergar are somehow able to deliver the loot, but is unable to find any means of traversing the rock face.
Owen is certain that they can get up there, mentioning that he even has a fly potion for Ruffas, He wonders if the dragon is really up there, and suggests moving the base camp further away, claiming he has some short lived buff spells he would like to cast before fighting the dragon.
Elyngael agrees with Owen that they shouldn’t rush this, and suggests taking the rest of the day to sit back and watch the entrance, as well as even higher elevations, to see what may be seen.
Ruffas isn’t able to offer much advice, but he is certain that this is the place. He asks Armand what he meant by the duergar bringing loot, as this is the first time hearing of such things, and after the cleric explains, he scratches his orange beard and says, If what you’re saying is true, and I have no reason to doubt that it is, than I would imagine that they would have to have some means to reach the top, as I doubt they would simply climb.

Yurneshi mentions that like, their Dwarf cousins, Duergar are skilled miners, so maybe there's some hidden way, and suggests gaining a bird eyes view.
Atlas says flying may be more enjoyable, but begins to search for a hidden passage.
Armand thanks Ruffas for his insight, and wonders if they could find a rock outcropping or some such place that would make a good location to conceal the horses and cart. He wonders if maybe the way is hidden magically, so casts detect magic.
Elyngael searches for a passage up as well as a place to hide the horses.
Vamir tells Ziata and Melzat to keep a lookout so they don’t don’t get hurt. He also looks for duergar tracks.
Owen keeps his eyes on the skies looking for incoming dragons.
Through both physical and magical means the Wardens try to figure out how the duergar gain access to the dragon’s lair, however, they are unable to find any means of making the ascent. Elyngael is able to find a dry shallow cave, perfect for stowing the horses and cart, and barely leaving enough room for the Wardens and Ruffas to sleep if they so choose. Vamir is able to find some tracks that closely resemble the duergar tracks they followed in the old mine, and is certain that duergar have been here. Upon showing the tracks to the others, Elyngael is able to ascertain that the tracks abruptly end, some 50ft or so from the rock face. Closer examination reveals that the final set of tracks seem a bit deeper, and those members of the group familiar with flight are easily able to recognize the fact that they “pushed off” as they took to the air. Upon gaining this knowledge, Ruffas offers, ”Well, duergar can’t fly without help, you didn’t find anything on their persons after defeating them by chance did you?”
