A Chance Meeting (DM Cayzle)
Wednesday November 6th, 2019 10:19:53 PM

Lanliss continues to be very interested in heroic trading cards.

Emrys tries to recall something of Effacia. He knows it is a coastal kingdom north of the Dread. It has one major city on a peninsula that sticks out into the sea, and a wall across the neck of the peninsula has protected it from invasion and undead to the south.

Tishe' is glad to go visit Dulcet. She has been friendly to adventurers in the Vale for many years. Barratore agrees.

Velarin looks for a chance to test the telepathy tattoos.

You start off for Witchspawn, and since it is late in the day when you depart, naight falls before you arrive. A Mage's Mansion would be great for shelter and for testing the tattoos, hint hint.

In the evening hours, you are hailed by travellers on the road. You see a pale beautiful woman with glowing eyes, her bodyguard in leathers, both riding dire wolves, with three more dire wolves ranging behind. She calls out a greeting.

“Hail and well-met, travellers! Am I wrong to suspect that we have found the famous Keepers of the Vale, heroes of Cinnamon Valley? I am Ettienne, and this is my protector, Louis.” She pronounces it “Louie.” She bows.

If you make a Know Arcana DC 28 check: Highlight to display spoiler: {She is an undead bloodline sorcerer}.

If you make a Know Arcana DC 23 check: Highlight to display spoiler: {Her eyes glow because she has a permanent arcane sight}.

She continues, “In fact, I have sought you out as potential customers for my magical wares. I hope you will be interested in unique items that you cannot find in other places, not even in the most sophisticated of magical shops.”

“Many Shadows, Aye-tee-enn”, Tishe’ responds with a head-bow acknowledging, and another, “and Lew-ee. Yes we are the Keepers.”

She gives a professional once-over, and nods again in decision. “Since you know of us and our reputation, you know all peaceful peoples are free to go about hire lives here, including merchants of unique items. I would be interested in learning your wares and the threads of their pattern.”

A Chance Meeting (DM Cayzle)
Thursday November 7th, 2019 11:57:44 PM

Tishe' lets the travelling merchant know that the Keepers have a live and let live philosophy. Ettienne smiles with ruby lips and replies, "My share, that is exactly my own opinion as well. Thank you for making me welcome."

Velarin and Edson are also interested in seeing her wares. By the way, the telepathy is working perfectly, as Velarin reveals some extra info.

Barratore is welcoming, but also asks, in a friendly way, where she is from. Ettienne matches that friendship with a tiny touch for the tall taur -- not a touch that could deliver any attack, which would require true contact, but just with a flirty glance of finger, completely nontheatening. "Oh, my home," she says. "Well, my family has had a tower in the Dreadlands for years, but with all the tumult of late, I have asked my kin here to join me in some travel beyond the old family homestead." Louis nods.

Emrys tries to narrow her tendency down to a specific type of undead. Well, there is no stench of death or rot to her. Her skin is alabaster. Her face, comely. Her manner, elegant. He notes that she wears a black cape. She has an affinity for the wolf. And look! Are her canine teeth a bit more pointed than a human's could be?

"Here," Ettienne says, "let me start with a few trinkets, mere potions and scrolls. But still, likely not potions or scrolls you have seen before, at least not in this life." She lays a silk tablecloth on the ground and sits demurely next to it. "Please, join me, sit." she says.

Louis also dismounts, and from saddlebags removes a bottle of what looks like wine, and a box of small, carefully packed wine glasses. He pours each of you a drink. The peddler invites you to check the drinks over. "Oh," she laughs, "I know how you heroes are forced to be paranoid. But have no fear from me. If you purchase my wares, I will make back the expense of the wine and to spare."

If you detect magic, poison, purify, or make other checks, via scent or sense or alchemy or appraise, then Highlight to display spoiler: {This is a very fine purple vintage indeed, from the famous Surefoot Family Vineyards on Centaur Island. To every test, it is nonmagical and not poisoned or tampered with. An expensive wine, of very high quality.}

Ettienne lays out a few items on the silk cloth.

Scrolls of Protection. There are three of these. Anyone, even noncasters, can read them. There is Protection from Dragon Breath, Protection from Poison, and Protection from Elementals. Each original old-school scroll functions as a CL10 Protection from Energy spell, but wards the subject from hit point damage inflicted by all Dragon Breaths, from all Poisons, and from energy damage as well as purely physical damage inflicted by all pure elementals, respectively. "These rare scrolls cost 14,000 gold each. Never again will you see scrolls intended for fighters, monks, and rogues."

Keoghtom's Ointment. This glass jar, 3 inches in diameter, contains 1d4+1 doses of a thick mixture that smells faintly of aloe. The DM tracks usage and tells you after you use the last dose. The jar and its contents weigh 1/2 pound. As a standard action, one dose of the ointment can be applied to oneself or a friend. The creature that receives it regains 2d4 + 2 hit points, ceases to be poisoned, and is cured of any disease. "It takes precious time in battle to apply an oil to a friend. Just a quick schmear will suffice for this potent unguent. Perhaps worth 10,000 gold for a party with no traditional cleric?"

Elixir of Youth. When completely swallowed, this potion reduces the age of the imbiber. The potion makes the drinker younger by 2 to 5 years. "Or would you rather spend 10,000 gold pieces to buy a bit of youth? In all the Wold, this may be the only item you will ever find that allows you the luxury of actual youth." she smiles and glances at Tishe'.

[OOC: These are all fate items, and to your detection, Identify spells, and Knowledge checks, they are all exactly as advertised.]

"Is there new trouble in the Dreadlands, Ettienne? We were actually on our way to Effacia, north of the Dread, to check in on things?"

V will raise a concerned eyebrow when ettienne offers the wine and will indeed detect magic and poison on it before sharing with the group "That his appears to be a very fine purple vintage indeed, from the famous Surefoot Family Vineyards on Centaur Island. To every test, it is nonmagical and not poisoned or tampered with. An expensive wine, of very high quality"

After having a seat, and looking over her wares with a detect magic and Identify, V responds. "These are indeed some marvelous items Ettienne. Did you craft them yourself? Being an Elf, I have little use for the Elixer of youth, but the others are all very interesting. The value of the scrolls is obviously the greatest for a non spellcaster, but would definitely be valuable to anyone. The ointment, I think might be a wise group purchase, and used for whomever in the group needed it at the time."

She gives Ettienne a jaundiced look. There was a time a comment assuming she would be interested in something because she was female would go over her head, and a time when that assumption would make her fly into a rage. But Tishe’ has experience, and she has changed. The thought actually makes her smile, and the human woman just ignores the ‘suggestion’ all-together.

A Chance Meeting (DM Cayzle)

Velarin asks if Etienne crafted these items. She laughs and says no. "My share, these are leftovers from bygone times! Items from the First and Second Ages of the Wold. I am a collector, not a creator. "

Lanliss wonders at her motive. If he asks, or hints, she says, "In other times I would merely collect these items, but all collectors come to sell some of the things they find. But I will say, I do seek out buyers such as yourselves with the means to purchase them."

Tishe' (and others) are interested, but to seal a deal, you must hand over your price and shake hands. "Let me show my good faith," she says. "I will appraise and accept any items you wish to trade at full book value, unlike the monopolist Catacombs, which would only give you half value!"

Barratore declines a personal purchase. "Well, good sir, perhaps you would be interested in permanent items? Consider these three rings."

Ring of Clumsiness. The wearer of this antique ring rolls each round to see if any carried or held object is dropped. Roll 25% for each item to see if it is dropped. Requires Remove Curse to take off. "This is a wonderful option as a practical joke, or to suggest, trick, or compel an enemy to don. Well worth the 30,000 gold cost."

Ring of Cleanliness. This Woldian item keeps the wearer clean and nice-smelling at all times. "They say that cleanliness is next to godliness, and rumor has it that it was the gericko itself that seeded the Wold with these items. A bargain at just 10,000 gold pieces."

Ring of Human Influence. This ring from another day has the effect of raising the wearer's Charisma to 18 on Diplomacy, Bluff, and Intimidate checks made with members of the Noble Races. If your Charisma is already 18 or higher, the ring has no effect. "See how good I am to you?" she asks rhetorically. "I am not wearing this as I offer you my wares!" She asks 40,000 gp.

Most of these items, while fascinating for their historic significance, offers him little to no benefit. He is already the master of diseases, curses, wards and influence. He is more intrigued by how they were made. If he could unlock their secrets and create them himself ... there is a benefit right there. The Elixir of Youth offers little to no benefit for someone of his age. However, to others whose lives aren't so long, two to five years would be highly prized. Being an accomplished Alchemist, if he could discover its ingredients and how it was made, he could produce a great many of these little miracles ... why do liches get to have all the fun, he thinks.

"I'll take the Elixir of Youth ... you say 10,000 gold ... certainly."

Daemon looks up in shock. He tells him mentally, 'That isss not natural ... you know thisss.'

Lanliss and Edson buy the ONE scroll of Protection from Dragon Breath. You guys can arm wrestle for it, or otherwise figure out a way to share!

Tishe' buys the famous Keoghtom's Ointment.

Emrys buys the Elixer of Youth.

Velarin laments a thin wallet.

The alabaster-skinned sorceress is amazingly pleased that you decided to purchase her wares. If you make a Sense Motive check vs DC40, then Highlight to display spoiler: {She tries to hide her surprise that you did not even try to bargain her down.}

"Well, my friends," says Ettienne, "just wait until you see my next items: a Rod, a Staff, and a Wand."

Rod of Smiting. Usable only by a caster, this rod can be used as a +2 light mace, even if the user is not proficient with maces. Moreover, when used against golems, fey, and outsiders, the weapon’s enhancement bonus is increased by the wielder’s Charisma bonus, and the damage done is increased by the wielder’s caster level. "I could not part with this marvel for less than 40,000 gold."

Staff of Withering. This +1/+1 magical weapon has 10 charges which can be used for extra effect when the weapon hits. As part of the attack action, the wielder must declare how many charges (1-3) will be used before rolling, but these charges are not expended on a miss. A hit with one charge spent adds 1d8+1 points of negative energy damage. If two charges are expended when a hit is scored, the creature struck takes this damage and also ages by one age category, its abilities and lifespan adjusted for the resulting age increase. If three charges are expended when a hit is made, then in addition to the damage and the aging, one of the opponent creature's limbs (chosen randomly) will shrivel and become useless. These extra powers are negated with a successful Fort save vs 10 plus half the wielder’s hit dice / levels plus the wielder’s wisdom. The feats Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus (Necromancy) also increase this DC. Undead, fey, outsiders, dragons, and certain other immortal creatures are immune to the extra effects of the staff. The staff can be recharged by one charge with a casting of Vampiric Touch or Enervation, or by two charges with Energy Drain. "This remarkable item is well worth at least 90,000."

Wand of Wonder. This ancient version of a Rod of Wonder is a CL8 50-charge item that produces a random spell effect from level 1 to level 4 each time it is activated. It is usable by anybody with an appendage that can hold and point it. Beneficial effects are directed at the wielder; baleful ones, towards the targetted enemy. "This marvel, usable by anybody, is worth at least 24,000 pieces of gold."

Better to use magical means against golems and outsiders.”

Tishe', Baratorre, and Velarin ponder the unusual wares but pass on further purchases. Velarin asks about the wine, and Etienne produces an unopened bottle. She bows, smiles, and offers it as a gift.

[OOC: Please log on your sheet as worth 500 gp, please, Velarin.]

Edson lets his friend Lanliss purchase the Protection from Dragonbreath scroll.

The sorceress seems disappointed that none of her latest offerings please you, not the rings and not the rod, staff, or wand. "Well," she tells you, "I have saved the best for last. Take a peek at my last three items."

Bracers of Brachiation. These antique bracers grant the wearer a climb speed of 30, but only in trees, vines, and other outdoor natural environments. "To gain such ability is a rare boon. Well worth 20,000 gold," she says.

Girdle of Femininity/Masculinity. Usable only by a cleric, monk, or fighter, this belt, when donned, permanently changes the gender of the wielder. No saving throw or spell resistance is allowed against this instantaneous effect, but the wearer must be willing or helpless. After activation, it can affect the same creature only after a year has passed. "Ah a much-storied item," she says with a toothy grin. "And unique in its capability. A bargain at 20,000, I think."

Manual of Puissant Skill at Arms. This treatise contains expert advice and instruction in the arts of combat. Any barbarian, fighter, monk, paladin, or ranger who spends one week studying the manual gains a +1 inherent bonus to Strength and experience points sufficient to advance him or her by half of a level of experience. (If the reader has levels in more than one of the classes listed, he or she must choose one of the classes to be affected.) A character without any levels in one of the classes listed gains no bonus from the work, but if an arcane spellcaster without levels in one of the classes listed scans even a single word he or she will lose 2d4x1,000 XP and must make a Will save (DC 20) or have 1 point of Intelligence permanently drained. Except as indicated above, the writing in a manual of puissant skill at arms can’t be distinguished from any other book, libram, tome, or so on until perused. Once read, the book vanishes, never to be seen again, nor can the same character ever benefit from reading a similar tome a second time. "This amazing item, and most dangerous to such as myself, will surely never reach the open market again! If you can afford 200,000 gold pieces, then surely you will agree with its worth."

Even with the generous offer of Etienne's purchase of magic owned, he would be simply insulting her with any offer. Shandresh is an immortal being that is currently imprisoned in a pocket realm of ooze. A pocket realm that Gaal himself used to imprison her. A punishment for her attempt to usurp his authority. Tishe' suggests that the Sage's Guild would be a good place to offer her wares. Ettienne consider this and asks if Tishe' knows any of the sages? And if so, would she write a letter of introduction. "That would be a door-opener, coming from a famous hero such as yourself."

Velarin thanks the sorceress for the wine but passes on further purchases. Edson is complimentary, but neither he nor Lanliss wishes to make any further purchases either.

Emrys has a unique item of his own to offer. Ettienne inspects if, and asks if she can cast Identify on it. She peers at it with her glowing eyes. "This is a remarkable item," she declares, "and I just may be thinking of a dealer who would be interested in it."

She ponders. "Well, I would cut my price on the Staff of Withering by half, to 45,000 gold, and I'll throw in the Ring of Cleanliness at no extra charge." If the witch asks about other items that she may have for sale, she claims that you have now seen her complete inventory of exceptional items for sale.

Baratorre spends a bit too much time looking at the Manual for the peddler not to notice. The minotaur politely wishes her well, and she smiles her toothy smile. "My share, you are so cute. I'll offer you a bargain. Let me spread the word that the Keepers of the Vale are my satisfied customers, and I'll let you steal the Manual from me for a mere 100,000 gold."

Meanwhile, you note that Louis and Brom have stepped aside for a private conversation. Louis has handed Brom a letter.

We WERE approached by an Expedition recently, and they were seeking ancient magic item knowledge, come to think of it! They were staying in WolfJarl. Finished, she hands the letter to Ettienne for review before folding and sealing with her claddagh ring.

“Unto all Members of the Noble Sages Guild,

Ettienne bows deeply and thanks Tishe' with obvious sincerity for her letter. "This is just perfect, my share. Thank you so much!"

To Baratorre she smiles and reaches out again to touch him in a friendly fashion. She reaches into her bag of holding and removes a small sewn doll shaped like a black dove. This she hands to the taur.

"This is a special item of my own, that I want to lend to you. See the cunning little pocket here? Write a note, slip it into the pouch, throw the bird into the sky, and she will fly to me."

"Oh, if you would like a reply, and I hope you will, then feed the cutie a bit of hair or nail. Thereafter she will be able to return to you."

"So if you wish to ask me if I still have this lovely book for sale in the future, you can write to me for that reason. Or for some other reason, may be?"

She smiles and looks deeply into Baratorre's eyes.

Meanwhile, Brom comes over to tell the party that he will he heading off on his own side quest for now. Evidently he has been summoned to a special errand ... a friend of his Uncle Ben from Plateau City has asked for him, specifically. With his telepathy tattoo, he'll be able to contact you when he is free to return.

So now it is time for farewells, not only to Ettienne and Louis, but to a longtime companion as well.

Edson stares dumbfounded.. then there were two. They were a group and all friends, but Edson came with Brom and Barratore from the Rum islands. There were a whole group of them, and now it was down to Baratore and him.

He tried his hardest to keep it together as he moved to Brom... " Take care of yourself. And don't do anything I would do."

"What?!" is all he can say when he hears that Brom is leaving. Emrys turns back to Ettienne and asks, "May I keep you just for a little longer, I have more to offer you for the staff. I must say farewell to my friend."

Emrys returns to the group and listens to Brom's reasons for leaving. "This is quite a shock, dear Brom. We'll all miss you until you return ... all of me and all of us. If you need us for anything, don't hesitate to simply ask," and he points to Brom's tattoo. He stays with the friends to bid a proper farewell to Brom.

Emrys then returns to Ettienne. "Sorry to make you wait, I'm sure you understand the gravity of the situation ... the parting of a dear friend. I don't have all the gold you desire for the staff ... I have other wondrous and rare items to offer you." He pulls out two jars, tightly sealed. "These items are very rare and difficult to concentrate and purify... Dragon's Bile and Fumes of Burnt Othur ... very potent indeed. Along with the Scepter of Shandresh, I also offer a Ring of Protection (+2) and two fully charged wands ... one to conceal the other to reveal (Wand of Invisibility and a Wand of Glitterdust.). Instead, she gives the barbarian a smile and pat on the forearm. “Many Shadows As you go Walker, Sieur Brom. I will not forget you were the first to welcome me as a Keeper. You are the night’s soil!”

She waits for what she thinks is a good pause after Brom, Ettienne, and Louis part ways, then she clears her throat. “So, about our journey?”

Lanliss gives/offers Brom the Helm of Bugsense.

Note:

Helm of Bugsense: This helm covers the wearer's eyes, so that normal vision is not possible. However, the helmet grants tremorsense 60 ft and blindsight 60 ft. (click on those links for more info). The helmets are living things that require one goodberry per day to remain alive. Without goodberries, they cease to function for one week, after which they die. This is a fate item that cannot be sold in the Catacombs.

The party offers find farewells to an old friend. Brom says his farewells and makes his exit.

Last minute deals with the magical peddler: Ettienne sizes up Emrys's offerings. "The Scepter of Shandresh I've valued at 45,000, bringing the remainder of the cost to 45,000 gold. The wands are worth 9,000 for the pair. The ring, 8,000. I would value the Dragon Bile and Burnt Othur at about 4,000. But that's still 24,000 short. Now, that jade circlet you have there looks very sweet. The cloak would suffice. Or you can ask your friend to send my dove to me when you have more funds ..."

You set up for a night camp. Ettienne and Louis prefer to move on "while the nighttime lasts." In the morning, you continue on to Witchspawn, where you find Dulcet with her coven. She drops her day-to-day duties to meet with you immediately.

"I'm always happy to meet with the Keepers," she says, smiling. She is a young and beautiful woman, surely too callow to hold the powerful seat of responsibility that she commands on the Cinnamon Valley's Pitchfork Council.

Visiting Dulcet (DM Cayzle)
Monday November 18th, 2019 11:06:16 PM

Tishe' and Velarin start right off with the details that Dulcet needs to figure it all out. "Oh, you heard about Effacia from Hmartin, and you've come to me for more information. Well, that's just about the best place to start."

With all of you listening, Dulcet says that yes, she has reason to think that there is trouble in Effacia, and she is glad that you all are planning to look into it. "I've been to Effacia in my youth, and made some friends there. First, let me tell you about the place."

The lady witch tells you that the Creusa Sea north of the Windborn Hills is a notorious ship-killer, and even the most experienced sailors enter only at great risk. However, the Ellenian Peninsula at Effacia, and the north coast generally from Osto to the Scab, is protected by offshore reefs, and the sea between the reefs and the coast is peaceful and safe for sailing. The space between the land and the offshore reefs, that is, the lagoon, is at Effacia especially wide, rich in fish and sea life, and features wide oyster beds. Many of the pearls in the Wold come from the shallow warm waters off Effacia. There is also trade east to the Scab and west as far as Osto, though ships on these routes cling tight to shore.

The city itself sits at the top of a peninsula that sticks out into the lagoon. There are a number of small fishing villages along the main coast, but these are not permanent, and are quickly abandoned when scouts sound the horns that mean enemies are coming from the south. The place has been harassed and attacked by forces from the Dread very often.

She takes down a map to show you.

As they walk on their way to see Dulcet, Emrys is suddenly assaulted by many voices speaking at the same time in his head. Daemon seems disturbed by it too. "What is this!! ... All these confounding voices in my head... Name Yourselves ...NOW!"

'It's Angus, sir ... umm, and your entire coven ... apparently. For some unknown reason, we all now can communicate telepathically.'

Emrys pauses and concentrates upon the members of his coven. "Yes ... yes, I can sense that now. Not only can I hear you all, but I know your locations and your general well being."

Daemon disapproves, "Oh great ... just wonderful!"

Emrys then asks, "Elbereth ... why are you in Culverwood?"

Elbereth replies, "Master, I am returning several tomes to your father's library."

Emrys answers, "I asked you to do that two weeks ago. Lucas ... Madeline, you both share the same disease ... why is that? Is there sickness making the rounds?"

Lucas nervously answers with a simple, "Umm?!", Madeline gasps.

Daemon closes his eyes and shakes his head, "Oh godsss!"

Emrys informs his friends that he and his coven now have a telepathic bond, like they do using the tattoos. However with the added benefit of knowing their locations and physical status.

Tishe’ eagerly looks at the map, carefully noting Dulcet’s description. “It’s a shady pick for defense and communication, strong landward and seaward.” She gives a small shudder and talks as if to herself. “Six months with the Black Lions and STILL not used to that much open water.” Then she shakes her head and thinks aloud. “And neither the Coven nor Hmartin have had word for too long? That would require blocking sea, land, and magical communication at the least? Any Scrying attempts from the Coven?”

Visiting Dulcet (DM Cayzle)
Tuesday November 19th, 2019 11:54:04 PM

(Before the meeting with Dulcet, Emrys learns about and shares his new coven power with his comrades in arms.)

Meeing with the Keepers, Dulcet smiles when Velarin describes Affacia as peaceful. "Oh, they work hard there, but they play hard too. Effacia is a port town, and it is a ... boisterous place!"

Honestly, from Dulcet's description, Tishe' is a little bit reminded of Bonetown, but maybe 80% less criminal!

Edson needs more information about the BAD stuff.

More seriously, Dulcet says she got a message in a dream that the local seer had just predicted a catastrophe ... and after that she was unable to reach her friend again.

Per Tishe's question, she tried to scry her friend, and was unable to. So either it was blocked or she is dead. A couple other people she scried were hiding in a cellar. A message spell let her talk to one, who said that fishmen were surrounding the city.

Dulcet tells Lanliss that Effacia is actually a big place. The central walled town is about two miles wide, and one mile in the other direction. The city has expanded its magically reinforced wall in some cases right into the harbor, the better to protect the shipping.

She is happy to answer any other questions, but she hopes you'll get started right away!

Emrys listens to everything Dulcet has to say about the area. However he cant help but allow his mind to wander and ponder these new powers that he and his coven has now developed.

He recalls the conversation with Tishe and Velarin earlier, shortly after the voices of his coven assaulted his mind. Emrys answered Tishe's question about if this new Telepathic Bond and Status ability with his coven works both ways. He told her that he thinks it does work both ways, as long as they are on the same plane with the other. He agrees with her that this boon could also be a curse. This communication would be most valuable if they were needing help in practically any situation ...anything from information gathering, delivering messages to calling for assistance at the WLA. His coven can now take on a more active role from the safety of home. Of course, covens usually make their own danger.

A telepathic message from Angus informs him that he has accepted a new member to the coven ... one that is worthy of the Slithering Roots. His coven is now just one short of a wicked dozen ... a Wicked Dozen is 13 in the witching community.

The Spellweaver shakes her head an comes back to the discussion at hand. “We will, of course, make for Effacia immediately!” And checking Velarin’s approval, she says her goodbyes and goes with the other Keepers.

Hiding in cellars is not good either and fighting underwater was simply awful. Barratore completely bowed out the last time, but Brom was still there to pull the weight. He had to go now.

"At least the city is not flooding. No one hides in the basement during a flood. Do we want to arrive inside and work our way out? Or arrive outside and punch a huge hole into the city? And no i don't mean a hole in the city's fortifications, but maybe wipe out a few hundred on the farthest inland portion as we enter. We definitely need to teleport. "I can indeed teleport us all Barratore, however, the problem lies in the fact that I have never been there or seen the place. A bit of a requirement for my teleporting is knowing or having seen the place I'm teleporting to. So unless Dulcett can provide me a visual of the location somehow, we will likely have to rely on windwalk as our quickest transport. Once we do arrive, my vote would be arriving in the city itself, and clearing outward from there. The faster we clear the city of hostiles, the quicker the people are safe."

Visiting Dulcet (DM Cayzle)
Wednesday November 20th, 2019 10:47:41 PM

Emrys keeps the party up to date with info on his coven.

Tishe' cleverly connects the dots. The experienced traveller suggests that these sea invaders may be a ripple from a conflict a ways to the west.

Barratore is clever too, deducing that at least the city is not flooded. he asks about teleporting.

But Velarin advises against it. He does not have the "fix" he would need to get there. And Dulcet has no way to provide one. It has been a long time since she was there, and she has no way to transfer memories. She is willing to let Velarin read her mind, if he can do that. Velarin suggests Wind Walking.

Edson has a good suggestion too -- water breathing!

Good-bies are said, and the party is pondering transport. The midday sun is overhead.

That chore over, the party prepares for the Wind Walk. Remember that there is a cool down period to transition to and from the phase-state ... word to the wise ... you may not want to wind walk right over a potential battle and let the enemy get five rounds of free licks as you phase in ... Also, generally can't cast while wind-walking ... so any prep before you start flying?

AC 24/ T24/ F21 CMD23. HP 136/136 Tishe’ (SteveK)
Friday November 22nd, 2019 12:11:41 PM

Tishe’ grimaces at Edson’s pun. “For that, you DO have to buy your own pearl!”, she jokes.

Tishe’ goes to the Catacombs and quickly purchases, then gives one each to Velarin, Barratorre, Lanliss, and Emrys. And buys a couple potions for emergencies.

(Dan K) AC: 39 (T 16 FF 29), CMD:42; HP: 237/237 Barratore Steelwind

Barratore chuckles slaps Edson on the shoulder. "I really can't fathom where you come up with them Edson"

Barratore wants to Wind Walk at several hundred feet up over the surrounding armies. Edson and Lanliss can get a good look at things and then we all head into the city. No forming up in a battle or fight. We land inside after a good look, and then go descimate a section. I think our first thoughts should be about opening an escape channel for those in the city"

Velarin makes a quick trip to the Catacombs. [OOC: All set over there.]

Tishe' follows suit, easy peasy. [OOC: transaction approved.]

Barratore expresses his opinion of Edson's foolery.

The party seems ready ... all that is left is the casting of the spell ...

Emrys Myrridanmyl, stephen f. ac20 hp109/109. rituals: Warding, Spiritual Healing, Contingency: BoL. Bless. Planar Adapt.
Sunday November 24th, 2019 10:46:09 PM

Emrys thanks Tishe for the magical pearl. "A pearl of wisdom, indeed. I had never heard of such an item, these pearls. Thank you for thinking of and acquiring them. You will most certainly be repaid, " he says with a smile.

"Alright then, if everyone is ready ... lets take to the wind!" Emrys smiles that he no longer needs to surrender his lifeforce to bestow Wind Walking on everyone. The benefits of his increasing powers. He tries not to let it go to his head. Necromancy tends to do that.

(Emrys casts Wind Walk on everyone. Duration: 18 hours.)

Tishe’ nods at Emrys. “I grew up in the Sargrass Plains, a hot and dry land of endless Grass. Even a cup of water spilled on the ground attracted hordes of flesh-eating insects. So, traveling to Bonetown on a ship was a true horror for me! It made me feel much safer to have that Pearl with me, one who came late in life to the concept of ‘swimming’.

The Sorceress agrees to be cautious, but raises an eye at Barratorre’s assumption. “Sweetie, while likely, we do not know if there is an army, a single massive monster with a few fishmen, or even if ‘fishmen’ could be merfolk helping Effacia against another danger.”

As they WindWalk, she keeps her eyes peeled. (Perception 36)
