Armand walks over to Atlas and gives him a Gibbs smack to the back of the head. "Maybe we should look in that sack you're carrying?"

Vamir smiles as Armand smacks Atlas on the back of the head. The young witch takes his mule and wagon to the carved out area and tries to position the cart so it add some additional cover for the animals, and the Wardens if they choose to stay the night before heading up top.

Atlas can’t remember any flying devices, but does remember the wyvaran.

Armand Gibb slaps Atlas reminding him that they have a wand of fly in their loot bag. He asks Owen if he could use the wand on the party.

Yurneshi helps situate the horses and cart, and helps set up camp. He is pleased that the wand was remembered as it will save a spell slot or two.

Vamir finds humor in Armand’s Gibb slapping of Atlas, then situates the cart so as to give more protection for the horses, and themselves, if they choose to stay the night.

Owen laughs about not remembering the wand, then asks if they should camp in the open so as to keep an eye on the sky.

Elyngael laughs with Owen, and suggest making camp with watches and flying up to meet Temorianalis in the morning.

Ruffas is amused by the interactions of the Wardens and comments, ”Only people who truly love each other can interact like you guys do, you are lucky indeed to have such a family!” He than gives his two cents by saying, ”Even though it isn’t that late in the day, I agree that making camp here and starting early would be wise. We have no idea what all we will run into, or how long it will take, and the idea of making camp in the lair of a living dragon isn’t something I would wish to do”.

Atlas laughs at Armand's slap, "Hey, I have things on my mind, I cannot remember everything we gather along the way." He gives Armand a friendly shove and complains out loud to no one in particular, "Another night to contemplate being eaten by a dragon. Yay." He then ducks, just in case anyone else wants to take a swat at him.

"Alright, let's settle down. We have some planning to do." Armand goes over to the horses. "Probably need to make a cold camp and keep a good watch. Since Owen and I have ring's of sustenance I suggest that except for the 2 hours of sleep we each need that we add to the wakefullness, of the current watcher. That way at least 2 people are always on watch."

He sits down. "Also we should keep an eye out for Duergar. We also have that wand of alter self..." He pauses in thought. "though I'm not sure if that would work against a dragon. Don't that have some way of seeing through disguises? Though it would allow us to avoid any entanglements with any minions the dragon may have wandering around since we could make ourselves look like Duergar. Also I have several scrolls of fire resistance so I can cast those when the time is right."

He looks around, "Anyone else have ideas to plan this out some more rather than go charging in?"

Owen joins in the planning session: "I can cast Seeming on us, which should help us get the jump on Temorianlis. I'll disguise us as captives in rags, and Ruffas can play himself, our captor. I also plan to cast Mass Bear's Endurance on us, and probably Displacement on Atlas."

Vamir motions to his finger, " I have a ring of sustenance as well, but I do need about an hour to prepare spells, and cast my rituals. So about 3 or so total hours. Melzat, and Zaita do not need any sleep either." The witch looks around at the group, [b]"I do not have any spells to protect, or defend. My spells are slow acting, and act to impose penalties, on enemies."

Atlas responds to Owen and includes the others, "Displacement would certainly help keep me alive. Also, if there is anything available to help me attack more and do more damage that would be great. Haste and Blessing are always a huge help. Oh, and Vamir, if you have that spell to snatch me back from death when I die, well, that would be handy if you have it." Atlas shakes his head, he can never remember the name of that spell, and then mutters to himself something about magic that you cannot pick up.

Looking about, Atlas isn't sure that there is a better plan. "This dragon seems to have captured an ideal location to prevent surprises. Should we consider luring it out instead of attacking it within it's lair? Who knows what traps it might have in there waiting for us. Out here we would be on even ground."

"Another night to contemplate being eaten by a dragon. Yay.", Atlas complains laughingly at the prospect of sleeping at the mountain foot.

Armand considers they should exploit this calm before the storm to preparing themselves. Owen chimes in with some potential spells that would benefit the group. He also tries to remember what he read about Red Dragons... logically they crave fire and fear cold... and... they are not easily bamboozled...

In turn Neshi, Elyngael and Vamir bring up additional spells or other magic items. Atlas is thankful for the prepared spells. El offers to stealth ahead to see if there are any guards or anything... Neshi still wonders if there wouldn't be a back door or something.

It's rather late when the Wardens prepare for bed. They don't need much sleep though but still it seems prudent at least to rest a bit before going up that hill... no matter how...

Not often the Tree Wardens have slept at the doorsteps of a Dragon...

When morning comes you can see watery sun rays peaking through a clouded sky. Ruffas on the other hand sleeps as only giants can do... with some good old fashion snorring... A gentle downpour falls from the heavens.

Time to come up with a plan to get up to that cavern...

In the morning Armand announces. "Well most of my spells are duration of minutes not hours. So we're going to have to be more sure of the dragon's location before I want to cast these things. If only we knew what was directly inside. I'm kinda thinking it can't lead directly to the dragon, then again if that's her air exit how far would she want to walk." He turns to the wizardly folk. "Do any of you have any sort of spying/scrying/wizardy eyeee type things that can be used?"

After finally falling asleep and then taking watch, Neshi finally gets a few hours of rest. After waking and getting through his morning routine. He turns to the others.

Ok, so mage armor should last until late this evening ans the stone skin should be good for two hours, so....

Neshi casts mage armor on Brawn and then turns to Elyngael and cast the stone skin spell on her.

He turns to the others. Anyone else before I hit myself up as well?

Neshi will cast what is asked for and then hits himself with a mage armor and a stone skin.

Owen smiles as the weather turns south. "This rain seems auspicious. It should drive Temorianlis back to her cave."

When the party confirms the dragon's presence and is ready to go, it's buff time:

Owen casts Seeming on everyone but Ruffas, making them look like ragged, emaciated versions of themselves, bound in handcuffs. Those closely inspecting the illusion must make a DC 23 Will save to disbelieve it.

Then he casts Darkvision, Spider Climb, and See Invisibility on himself, plus Protection from Energy (Fire) on Atlas, Armand, and Elyngael. Then he uses the Wand of Fly to cast Fly on every member of the party. Just before they head out, he casts Mass Bear's Endurance on everyone.

Vamir wakes up after his two hour nightly sleep, and stretches. The young with brings Zaita up to full size, and makes a concentration check to bring woldsblood into the wold, filling his spell slots. Vamir murmurs thanks to Queen Maab and conducts his basic and intermediate rituals. Vamir shakes his head softly, "not a good day to fail on that healing ritual," Vamir mutters to himself. Shaking the failure off as best he can Vamir casts flying broom and shrinks Zaita back to her tiny size, and places her back on his belt. Looking over at the rest of the Wardens Vamir manages a crooked smile, "I guess I am as ready as I will ever be.

Atlas feels well empowered with all the spells and with a shrug says, "I guess we'll go to her. No sense in waiting, let's go." He then laughs out loud when seeing the others in their illusion of prisoners. "You sure are a sorry bunch!"

At dawn Armand calls his friends for some tactics meeting. He has no long duration spells so he'd hoped to keep his spells for inside the cave. He would feel a lot more secure if only they knew more about the layout of that cave... who knows what Temorianalis would do...

Neshi too goes through her available enhancement combined with the probability of what she will use or need when...

"This rain seems auspicious" Owen says while he waits for feedback from the scouts. As soon as he know more he'll start buffing the party.

After performing his rituals, Vamir is as ready as he'll ever be...

Ruffas frowns seeing you all suddenly look like ragged prisoners. Atlas though laughs about it. It's uncertain how Owen's magic will help them getting up the lair though.

"And how would I be able to haul you all up being my prisoners?!" Ruffas asks...

Meanwhile Elyngael intends to stealthily approach the cavern entrance. But there's still a 200ft sheer rock wall between your camp site and the cave entrance. Do you climb up there?
(never mind the rolls) Climb check would be (DC15) with an occasional slippery patch due to the rain (DC20). Do you have other ways to get up to the entrance?

Standing at the foot of the rock wall Owen goes around and taps everyone, including Ruffus, with the Fly wand.

El asks the group to wait for her as she first will go scout up the cliff to see what lies beyond the cave entrance. Everyone else just prepares to fly up.

Elyngael slowly flies towards the cave... Highlight to display spoiler: {Near the cave entrance you spot a large number of Wyvaran. Perhaps they are holding guard but then again... if they were how comes neither of them saw you?! The cave behind them is quite dark so no way to look beyond the entrance.}

(DM Note @ Lynette : not sure where I made reference there would be only 2 Wyvaran? Not being native English it could be of course that I make many mistakes... sorry for that. Is the text 'neither of them' referring to just 2 instead of all 16 Wyvaran? Please should you see mistakes like this you are most invited to send me an email - glad to learn. In any case there are a large number of them :-) )

Hovering in front of the cave entrance El check out the Wyvaran group. She counts no less than 16 of them! Behind them the cave entrance descends slowly into the mounting. It looks like a straight tunnel...

Down below, all the others - except Atlas - are waiting in anticipation of Elyngael's report. Vamir shifts his weight from one foot to the other whispering to his companion Melzat. Armand checks if there are any others trying to make it to the entrance... he sees nothing. Just in case, Owen prepares some spells.

As they are guarding the entrance, suddenly one of the Wyvaran looks down and spots Atlas however there in plain sight... he jumps up into the air waving his greatsword at the human fighter... immediately the assembled mob takes it to the air and flies towards Atlas... With the seeming spell active only 1 out of 16 notices there's something wrong with Atlas...
Seems they are puzzled about this human flying here in mid air... all 16 will reach Atlas next round.

OoC: You can take them, Atlas! We'll go after the dragon!

IC: If the wyvaran have not passed through the mouth of the cave, Owen casts Shadow Evocation, creating a Wall of Fire that covers the mouth of the cave and points inward. The wyvaran must make a DC 23 Will save to recognize it as an illusion. If they are within 20 feet of the wall, they take 1d4 Fire damage. If they are within 10 feet, they take 2d4 Fire damage instead. If they pass through the wall, they take 2d6+12 Fire damage. If they make their Will save to disbelieve, they take only 20% of the damage.

Atlas is completely flabbergasted, he thought he was staying out of sight! In this moment he's not exactly sure what to do, he looks about and hears what Armand says, then scrambles in his mind to act. Without any plan at all he says, "We're here for the dragon. I'm told she's hungry and this fire giant thinks we would make a good meal. We offered ourselves as sacrifice to save our village from attack. The village will send 5 people every month as payment for their safety. As you can see, some of us are more resigned to dying than others. It's just the warrior way I guess. Can we pass and humbly present ourselves to the great dragon, for the life of our people?"

Since the Wyvaran were all camping ourside the cave Owen has little chance to block the Wyvaran with a wall of Fire. Instead he calls out they are gifts for Temorianalis...

The one Wyvaran who sees through the seeming illusion yells back in Draconic: "He's lying! They are not 'gifts'... who would want to be 'gifts' in the first place! Looks you blind fools... it's an illusion!!"
The other Wyvaran just seems to have a daft look upon their faces... what is he talking about?!

Preparing for the worst Neshi and Vamir observe the mob getting closer to Altas.

Armand comes forward making a bold move. His diplomacy skills would outclass even the most charismatic bard in the Nothern Continent.

There's one hostile Wyvaran and 15 unfriendly ones... Armand's diplomacy skill make each of the Wyvaran shift two attitude steps. So you end up with one indifferent Wyvaran and... 15 friendly ones...

El warns Owen and Atlas to play cool and go along with Armand's ploy.

Rather than trying to take them all, Atlas confirms they are to be sacrificed to the great dragon...

"Owww... they are just Dragon Fodder!!" the one indifferent Wyvaran says and he turns his back on you to fly back up to the lair.

The 15 remaining, friendly, Wyvaran smile at you... they help you to go up the mountain. They swarm Ruffus who is welcomed as a hero... after all he brings a fine meal to Temorianalis...

"Leave the plant though... she's a carnivore..."

You are up the cliff in no time. Wyvaran happily flocking around you.

"Go go! Go in... go in... hurry..."

She's trying to gather information about how far down Temorianalis is and if their spells will run out, or if they will be able to cast more before the encounter starts.

Atlas decides to keep his mouth shut and just goes with the flow, hoping the plan works. He hurries ahead once they get to the entrance. "El, you want the honors or should I go first? I'm not sure if we're scouting or just going in. I'm happy to take the heat of going first." He laughs at his pun and heads in.

Once out of sight of the Wyvaran he draws his sword and shield and prepares to take on the dragon.

what size is the tunnel after entering the cavern opening?

DM Edit: The opening is 50ft wide by 40ft tall, and the tunnel at the moment appears to stay pretty close to those dimensions.

A bit dumbfounded at how gullible the Wyvaran are the group enters the cave one by one.

Hoping not to get roasted right away Owen keeps his distance from the others.

El had hoped to get some information from the Wyvaran on the length of the tunnel but they are no longer paying attention... in their eyes you are already dead ...

As the diplomatic approach worked wondrously well earlier Armand wants to push it just a little bit further. Mind you, a 1 is an automatic failure no matter how high the end result actually is... your diplomacy gruesomely fails. But your end result is high enough so you do not alter the Wyvaran's mood anymore. (DM OOC - diplomacy normally takes a few minutes to succeed but you have been quite resourceful in the Wyvaran approach so I allowed the mood changes... don't push it ;-) )

The indifferent Wyvaran turns around and hisses : "Don't push it... move... she is hungry..."

Atlas decides to hold his mouth shut and goes along with the flow. Once inside he offers to dive in first and... take the heat... now that might just all come through. Once out of sight of the Wyvaran he draws his blade.

Neshi just goes along with the others and is happy to note the Wyvaran have no interest in going with you.

As soon as they are out of sight of the Wyvaran, Vamir lets Melzat out of his bag again.

Please tell me your marching order.

The Cave entrance is about 50ft by 40ft. Peaking inside you discover that the passageway dimensions stay pretty much the same. Travel seems to be relatively easy... smooth gravel floor and while the entrance was pretty dark, there are permanent dancing lights throughout the entirety of the cavern... the cave looks to wind down endlessly into the mountain at a steady angle down... a cozy breeze comes from deep below. A nice warmth as if you are on a soft blanket in front of a fire place...

Fear tingles down the spine of our heroes as they enter deeper into the dragon's lair. Lets say that again... they are KNOWINGLY and WILLINGLY trotting down a passageway that leads straight into a DRAGON's lair... so don't worry! It's perfectly normal you are shuddering.

Vamir shudders visibly, and his stomach is doing flips. The young witch puts Melzat beside him as he takes his normal spot in the middle of the party. As they are walking Vamir takes the time to cast protection from energy fire on himself. "Anyone elsenneed a little fire protection?" he asks in a whisper.

Once they are out of sight of the Wyvaren and can whisper lightly, Neshi speaks.

"Ok so how do we keep these guys from coming in after us when whatever occurs, occurs?"

"I could probably slow them down a bit, but it would use up several spells." I think two walls of ice would effectively slow them down a little.

"Hey let's take care of the dragon first and worry about the Wyvarn's later." Armand looks around nervously. "Remember I've got scrolls. 4 scrolls of 3rd level Protection from Energy, since the creater was 5th level that's 50 minutes. And I have 5 scrolls of 2nd level Resist Energy, those will only last 30 minutes. And the effects will stack. So it's just a matter of knowing when to cast them. Or if any you think it's going t to be sooner rather than later I can use the scrolls now."

Armand looks around some more and shudders. "Let's just be quiet and try to get closer before I cast these I don't want them to run out."

OOC, didn't someone cast spells on us? Do we need a timer going? And a list of spells cast?

Elyngael and Brawn continue moving with the other Wardens. She is depending on Armand for one of those scrolls before the battle as she moves in front with Atlas and whispers, "Let me move ahead and leave Brawn with you. I can be stealthy, check out what's ahead, and come back...hopefully."

I expect to be close enough to smell her breath...then again, I think I might smell it now" After a short pause, "And let's not forget haste and bless, those are critical if we're going to be successful."

Then to the group, "Let's have El check out how far we have to go. We'll sit here tight and wait for her to report back." Turning to Elyngael, "You be careful and make sure you make it back to us. We'll wait for your return, then I'll take the lead when we go down to face it." Is that worry on Atlas' face?

Slowly the prospect of facing an adult red dragon begins to creep up your spine. Vamir shudders and his stomach is doing flips. Whispering he asks if anyone needs a little fire protection... oh yeah right... an Adult Red Dragon can breath... whooosh...

Once they are out of site of the tunnel entrance Neshi wonders how to keep the Wyvaran from coming up behind them... it would be a waste of spells but then again it could also secure the entrance... or... seal the escape route... unless of course Temorianalis has some backdoor on her lair.

Armand looks around nervously and prefers to concentrate on the Dragon ahead first. He counts his scrolls and tries to estimate their duration. Key would be to know exactly when to cast what...

Elyngael scouts ahead without Brawn. She quietly puts some space between her and the group. Exactly how far ahead do you go?!

Ready to cast a spell Owen stays in the center of the group.

Atlas suggests El to go deep into the mountain alone and report back once she knows exactly how far you need to go... cool! ... no hot!...

The mountain is silent. A warm breeze comes from below. There's a hint of sulfur in the air...

The group waits for Elyngael to scout ahead... soon the Elf is out of sight...

5 minutes go by...

10 minutes...

still nothing... the warmth from the breeze makes you drowsy. How long will you wait? El's been gone for 10 minutes now... the only sound you hear is your own breathing and movement.

Elyngael: Highlight to display spoiler: {You have been going deeper into the mountain now for almost 10 minutes. The tunnel remains equally wide. It twists and turns at a steady degree down. Travel remains easy as well thanks to the ever-burning lights. You realize there actually isn't much to hide behind... you could try to blend in with the tunnel wall.

Temperature has gone up slightly. The stench of sulfur is a bit stronger now.

The gravel beneath your feet scrunches lightly with ever step you take... that's about the only sound you hear...

It's been 10 minutes... how far will you travel?? Another 5? Another 10?

Make a few stealth checks please. Please give me one stealth check for every extra 5 minutes you plan on travelling... }

Elyngael continues deeper into the mountain for about 10 minutes. The tunnel remains wide but twists and turns as it continues to slant downward. The distinct smell of sulfur gets stronger as the temperature rises. Elyngael stops nervously at the minor sound of some gravel under foot. She decides to continue 5 more minutes before returning.

The main group is growing restless... Owen and Armand worry Elyngael is going to get herself in trouble... and they wouldn't even know if she was...
Armand suggests to go after her. Giving himself a thump on the forehead he realizes they can fly rather than walking. They would be able to muffle the sound of their feet.
The others wait in silence...
Slowly the pack starts moving deeper into the lair...

Elyngael goes deeper into the dragon lair... after another 5 she still sees no end... just how far does this tunnel go?!? She's gone for 15 minutes. It will take another 15 to get back to the group...

Where's Uli?? Rattlebones notices a large jute bag... it's not moving! No!!!
You can feel rage building inside but you are in too much pain to pick another fight... not knowing the enemy puts you in a serious disadvantage.

A quick scan of your body shows you have suffered serious blood-loss... You don't think you have any fractures... but there's a nasty cut across your chest. You seem to have all your gear still... but apart from that bag you see no sign of Uli.

Rattlebones is down to 30HP... seems your assailants considered you were either dead or dying so they did not even shackle you.

Your options?
- stay down hoping they won't notice you are still alive... who ever they are...
- try to see who captured you
- make a run for it... there are two tunnels. One leading up... the other one leading down.
- attack your captors... though that outcome sounds pretty dire.

The tunnel remains wide and barren - no place to hide. There's some gravel making it harder to stay silent. The distance down means we'll have to destroy her while we are in her lair because there will be no escape"

Rattlebones blinks his eyes thickly, trying to catch a view of his surroundings without moving and revealing he is still alive. The light pierced his brain and made him cognizant of his raging headache. By the moon and stars! What happened!? We bedded down for sleep and dark shadows swarmed over us before we could bare tooth and claw. Uli! I will help, brother. He waits for the pain to subside before trying to open his eyes again. He needed to know if anything was nearby before chancing a move.

OOC, The Fly spell lasts 1 minute per caster, I forget what level the wand is at, but we may be coming near the end of the spell duration.

Atlas is so intent on listening for El that he doesn't hear when the others discuss going after her. When he sees them moving forward he asks, "It's only been a little bit, there's no rush. She is sneaking, remember?"

However, realizing they have already made up their mind he rushes to the front of the group. His boots of flying have worn off and he wants to keep the last charge or two for when they face the dragon.

Worried for Elyngael the group slowly follows the tunnel downward hoping to be reunited with their ranger soon. Atlas tries to avoid breaking plan... after all she's sneaking! Give her some time?! But already the group's made up its mind.

Owen quietly goes with the group. Sweat beads popping our of Vamir forehead as he continues walking along. Just in case he pulls out his wand... ready to use it when they enter the lair.

Using the fly spell Armand and Neshi float down... they fly... they all fly down here...

...

After some 10 minutes the group is surprised by El's stealthiness... immediately they are briefed. El's convinced they are heading towards the lair indeed... it's getting gradually warmer and the smell is worsening. But given the length of this tunnel she also realises there is no escape possible... only in death... either She dies or the group gets to meet the Grey One.

Down... somewhere... what appears to be a young male taur tries to open his eyes... one's firmly shut. Through the other Rattlebones has a blurry sight. He notices figures on the other side of the room... well it's not a room... it's like a slightly wider part of some kind of tunnel...

Two remain here and stand guard in the centre of the chamber... watching up the tunnel.

Rattlebones tries to look around better. The jute bag across the chamber troubles him... those bloodstains don't look good. }

Rattlebones please don't forget to update your header. Right now you are down to 30/239 HP After all you were captured... and they seem to think you are dead so you must have been out cold. Be prudent...

After 30 minutes El perceives two figures standing guard... it seems the tunnel is slightly wider up ahead and... could that be two guards standing there awaiting you?! More Wyvaran?!

Armand nods. "We should play this up." He digs in his bag a minute. "Here are our 3 manacles. We can pretend to put these on and just walk ahead of Ruffas and bemoan our fate."

Armand will then use one of the manacles. He will keep the key to it in case they get accidentally locked. "Anyone else?"

The group comes to a pause... El spotted the guards and suggest playing the 'We are prisoners'-theme again. Ruffus tilt his head and waits for a decision to be made...

Armand nods and takes out the manacles... Vamir immediately holds out his hands... only Atlas seems to disagree with the plan...

The guards don't move...

Armand turns to Atlas. "Yes, we're going to dispatch them. How do you think we're going to get close enough without getting into ranged combat and possibly them getting off an alarm? There's no place to hide and sneak up on them. We act deceptive captives until you're in charge position. Then you charge, Elyngael whips out her bow and shoots, Brawn charges, swords, arrows and claws everywhere."

Armand turns to Ruffus. "You just keep saying things like 'stop you're whinning' and 'move along'."

Armand loosely draps the manacles over his arms and holds the chain so that the manacles don't fall off. "Now don't fasten them Vamir." He looks at the rest of the party. "Anyone else for fake manacles? I saw it in a play once when these guys were sneaking into a death fortress to rescue a princess."

Once the rest of the party is on board, Armand will begin shuffling forward and bemoaning his fate. "I don't want to die....I could be useful to your fire queen."

Atlas is grateful that the Seeming spell is still working as he didn't like the idea of putting his sword and shield away and putting real manacles on. With that in mind, he takes the lead, putting on the best show he can, "Would you stop your whining? I cannot wait until that thing swallows me whole so that I don't have to listen to you any more. We're going to die for a good cause, live with it."

Tired of waiting Neshy summons a swarm of spiders! (Do put them on the map)

Armand reassures Atlas that he is ready to put an end to these two... with this plan in mind, Vamir, El, Owen and Atlas start moving towards the guards.

You approach this section of the tunnel from the West. This looks like a large ante-chamber... a prelude to something far worse.

Atlas and Armanr play it cool as they approach the guards pretending to be prisoners of the Fire Giant Ruffus.

Finishing her summoning spell, Yurneshi calls a swarm of spiders to charge forward.

Vamir tries to stick with the original 'we are prisoners' plan. As does Atlas and when ordered to stand still by the Generals Owen does as he is told.

However Armand and El think this has been enough... first Armand casts silence over the Generals, immediately followed by a volley of arrows of which one draws blood.
Brawn follows suit and also attacks the yellow General. The wolf's bite is quite brutal and he tries to trip the Wyvaran General. The Yellow General makes an AoO (hits AC28 - no hit) but he fails to strike Brawn and is knocked prone.

"Guys, I thought we were going to get close first!", Atlas shouts.
Yet there's no more stopping now...

The Green General takes a 5ft step and makes a full attack on Brawn. (Hits AC29, AC21 and AC18) Nothing get's through the Wolf's armor.

The Yellow General attempts to get up (Brawn get's an AoO on yellow) Once up, he tries to hit Brawn again (hits AC26 fail)

Behind the pack suddenly two hidden doors open. Two more General appear!! Both of them cast Dragon's Breath and breath fire at you!!

Magenta General ; Dragon's Breath engulfs Neshi and Vamir! damage 41 Ref save DC21 for half

Cyan General : Dragon's Breath engulfs Owen, Armand and again Vamir Damage 44HP Ref save DC21 for half.

Luckily some already have fire protection...

Rattlebones does nothing. Look could those newly arrived be in your side?!? With any luck they have some healing spells for patching you up.

Vamir nimbly steps out of the way of the first dragon breath (Reflex 30) but isn't so lucky on the second. Luckily the witches Protection from Energy spell absorbs the 64 points of damage. The witch looks for a slightly safe place to stand rather than between the 2 groups of wyvaran generals. Vamir casts spectral hand from his wand and places it in his bag.

Vamir moves 30 foot forward clearing the double dragon's breath and raises a slender finger, pointing it at yellow wyvaran. The witches hand speeds out and attempts a touch attack on the creature (Hit touch AC 11) with his spectral hand delivering calcific touch, (Fortitude DC 20, SR 21**) causing 2 points of dexterity damage.

**A successful Fortitude save negates the slow effect but not the ability damage. A target reduced to 0 Dexterity is petrified permanently. Break enchantment, restoration, or stone to flesh can reverse the effects of calcific touch.

(sorry for skipping a day folks. I was at a trade show the last 3 days and I kinda crashed last night.)

Fire washes over Vamir He manages to avoid some of the fire. Luckily the rest is absorbed by the protective spells cast earlier.
Yet there's only this much those spells can take... so the witch for a slightly safer spot. Using the spectral hand he summoned he tries to deliver a calcific touch to the yellow general but he fails to pass the touch AC.

Similar to Vamir, Armand too feels no damage at all from the fire. Much to the Generals' disappointment of course. He begins summoning an ally to send into the fray.

Brawn tries to bite the Yellow general as he scampers back on his feet but Brawn's fangs merely bite a hole in thin air.

El's well protected by several spells. She call out for Atlas and then tries to arrow down the Yellow General. Brawn takes a bite in the general's leg but he fails to trip him this time... (I accidentally took the CMD of the other two rather than the two fighter Wyvaran...)

Owen avoids most of the fire. He protects Armand and then flies around the corner.

A figure at the back of the cavern stands up, about 25 feet behind the wyvarans.

You see what first appears to be a young male minotaur, tall and well-muscled with broad shoulders. As you get closer, however, you notice that instead of horns he has broad, plated antlers, and instead of a typical bovine snout he has a face that is longer and thinner. His fur is also thicker than normal. He body is chestnut brown, with white starting at his elbows and hocks. He wears a fur kilt, with numerous feathers, beads, and bones decorating his clothing. He bears no weapons, but his hands end in sharp, wicked claws.

His fur is matted with dried blood. He stands woozily, but he gains his footing and narrows his eyes as he looks at the backs of the wyvarans.

Elyngael shouts as she sees Brawn taking so many hits. She fires arrow after arrow at the Yellow General but in her haste only one arrow succeeds to penetrate his armor.

Brawn in sheer rage rips open the general's armor tearing large gashes over the Wyvaran's belly.

This time Vamir's spectral hand succeeds in touching the Yellow general... (Fort save 9 - natural 1 : -1Dex)

The Yellow general sinks to his knees...

Behind the Magenta general Armand summons a Hound Archon. The canine-headed outsider swings his greatsword but fails to connect (Will save vs menacing aura 33 - nat 20) Magenta is not impressed by the menacing aura of the Hound Archon...

Armand runs up to Brawn and heals the brave Wolf.

Chains lighting suddenly flashed through the tunnels as Neshi carefully aims her spell. Magenta is unable to avoid the damage. Cyan though avoids some of the damage.

The Green Wyvaran General feels a spider swarm crawling up behind him but at least he's not nauseated by their vast numbers.

Now that the magenta general is fighting the Hound Archon, Owen makes a second one appear right next to it. Magenta can't see the difference between the image and the actual Archon and now accepts he's fighting two Hound Archons!!

Atlas pummels the green Wyvaran General. Strike after strike keep bashing away at the Wyvaran. Chips of his breastplate come of and splinters fly of his heavy wooden shield.

Rufus was perplexed as the battle unfolded. He enters the cave behind you and readies to get into action...

Hoping to interrupt the Wyvaran generals from castings, Yurneshi conjures up Black Tentacles... the rubbery black tentacles burrow up from the dirt reaching for both Wyvaran clerics... both Wyvaran are grappled!

The Cyan General was finishing a summoning spell but the grappling tentacles interrupt his casting (concentration check 32 vs 38)

The Magenta general too is grappled...

The Hound Archon that was summoned by Armand chases the generals through their teleport and attempts to attack. However he's also surprised by the tentacles! (please check for grappled status on the Hound Archon)

Armand cast holy smite at the generals... both avoid part of the damage (Will save 26 and 28). they are not blinded but they do take some damage...

Healed earlier, Brawn attacks again but he still seems to be a bit woozy. El however buries two arrows in the Wyvaran's abdomen.

Owen moves his illusory hound forward.

Even though Atlas misses more than he would have hoped, his longsword makes an end to it... the last shield bash wasn't even needed anymore... another Wyvaran sinks to the ground.

With the Wyvaran Clerics now at the back of the cave, Rufus dares to move closer. True he's not the bravest one...

And then... there's a bloodied Taur struggling back on his feet... he sniffs the air... bellows a roar before charging the last standing Wyvaran General... clawing, goring, biting...

And then all is silent...

Apart from the wriggling noise of the Tentacles there's nothing to be heard...

The group's a little spread out in the cave...

Owen moves his illusionary hound archon forward as the moose-taur steps forward, and asks him, ”Who are you?”

Neshi feels energized by the fight with the wyvaran generals, but is taken aback by the sight of the bloody taur.

Vamir seems unhappy with all the destruction around him, but turns to face the Taur if needed.

Armand asks who needs healing, and then casts detect magic and searches for loot on the wyvarans.

Elyngael lets Armand know that Brawn is still in need of healing, and then stands beside Owen to aid in the questioning of the Taur.

Rattlebones tries to answer in his native tongue, but quickly realizes such a language is unknown to the Wardens, and changes to speak in a very broken common. He shares who he is, and his need for healing for both himself and one named Uli. he then ran over to the burlap sack and tears it open.

OOC... In case anyone was wondering how Rattlebones has so many hp, note that he is a lost child, (a Woldian prestige class) and they get a shared HP pool with their animal, so actually that is the sum of both his and Uli's hp, when one suffers, they both suffer, and when one is healed both are healed. In the case of mass heal spells and channels, since both of them are being healed, at the same time, their hp pool goes up for both. Pretty cool class feature, but it has it's drawbacks, such as if one dies, both die.

Atlas looks himself over and laughs, "Not a scratch my friend. Who would have thunk it. Brawn here took everything I should." He steps up and puts a friendly hand on Brawn as a sign of appreciation. Then he steps up to the Taur, looks him up and down once, then looks over Uli. After a moment of consideration he asks, "You two could be helpful. We go to kill the dragon, want to join in on the fun?"

Neshi wipes off his 1hp wound and realizes it has already scabbed over.

As Rattlebones begins to speak in Taurian, Neshi's head pops up not having heard Taurian spoken for such a long time. He grins a bit as Rattlebones switches to bis broken common.

He too waits for the Minotaur's response.

" Hmm, Armand, Atlas, shall I leave the tentacles or shall I dismiss them?"

"I think you can dismiss the tentacles Neshi."

Armand gathers the party to within 30 feet, including the strange looking minotaur and the sabertooth tiger! and then briefly prays and channels some divine healing.
Everyone is healed 30 (6d6's)

Everyone but Brawn, and Minotaur/cat combo should now be fully healed. "I'm loath to use too many divine healing until we are actually engaged with the dragon." He pauses. "Atlas hand me the party bag." While he rumages through it he will put the items from the Wvyaran's in it.

"Aha." He pulls out several potions of Cure Moderate Wounds (we have 25 sitting here). "Oh, and I have this that we don't use that much." He pulls from his belt the wand of Cure Light Wounds.

He will then use it on the still injured. 5 uses, fully heals Brawn. He then taps on the Minotaur 22 times, healing him up to 238 (I think I did my math right from what Jeremy told me about your healing).

Armand looks at Rattlebones. "Tell me, what skills do you possess? Do you need any equipment? If yours is not lying nearby, I think we might be able to offer you some things."

OOC, I have updated the loot items on the spreadsheet, but not put in gold piece amounts. I have deducted the wand uses.

Vamir helps Armand load the various items into the party bag, and stands back giving the cleric room to work. As Armand heal the rather large Taurus Vamir casts barkskin on himself. "Neshi, as we prepare for this dragon would Brawn like to be bigger? I can cast animal growth on him if you would like before we engage the dragon," Vamir whispers.

OOC: Animal Growth - The target animal grows to twice its normal size and eight times its normal weight. This alteration changes the animal's size category to the next largest, grants it a +8 size bonus to Strength and a +4 size bonus to Constitution (and thus an extra 2 hit points per HD), and imposes a –2 size penalty to Dexterity. The creature's existing natural armor bonus increases by 2. The size change also affects the animal's modifier to AC, attack rolls, and its base damage. Elyngael quickly makes her claim, "Excuse me, Vamir, but I am the only one who will make decisions for Brawn. Neshi has no authority to make that call. Brawn is my companion. We will consider it when the time comes. Right now, we don't even know how far down in the mountain our pursuit may take us. Rattlebones, do you have any idea how close we are to the dragon?

Rattlebones sighs in relief as he feels Uli's chest rising and falling with breath. "Táimid ag fiach arís, deartháir."

He shivers as the healing energy from Armand washes over them. Uli opens his eyes, flexes his claws, and upon seeing the party suddenly alights on his feet and raises his hackles. Rattlebones rests a calming hand on his back and the big cat relaxes.

The big moosetaur smiles. "Thanks you for fix meat! Meat feels more good. Still hurt some, but more good. This Uli, my wild-brother." He gestures toward the smilodon. "He is not nice. Teeth kill and claws kill. Do not pet." He stands up and considers everyone's questions. "We come from Ice Vein. I am doing... spirit long walk. Very long walk. Cannot not go to Ice Vein until spirit long walk done. We sleeps in grass last night. Lizard men take me and Uli at sleeps. The why I don't know. If dragon lead of lizard man herd, Rattlebones and Uli help hunt dragon." He turns to answer Armand. "I and Uli hunters. Strong claws, strong teeth, quiet feets. Smell prey, kill prey, eat prey. No need weapons. Have all of stuff."

ooc: Rattlebones and Uli use only their natural weapons. He has all of his current equipment.

He turns to Elyngael. "No know. Wake up here." He stretches his limbs and sighs in relief at the lack of wounds. "We hunt now?"

Atlas is shocked that he didn’t get hit in the fight, and invites Rattlebones and Uli to join the dragon hunt.

Owen smiles at Atlas’s surprise, and awaits Rattlebones reply.

Neshi isn’t fazed in the least by his 1 missing hit points, and is slightly surprised to hear a language he hasn't heard in a long time, Taurian. He smiles at Ratlebones’s broken common, and awaits his response. He asks whether or not he should dismiss the black tentacles.

Armand lets Neshi know that it would be fine to dismiss the tentacles, then throws up some divine healing, in the form of channeling, and magical devices. He asks Rattlebones about his skill set.

Vamir helps load the loot bag, being careful not to touch the unholy maces directly, one would assume, than mentions to Neshi he can cast Animal Growth on Brawn if he would like.

Elyngael quickly corrects Vamir as to who's companion Brawn is, and says she will consider the offer when the time comes. Not knowing how much further they still need to travel, she asks Rattlebones if he has any idea of the distance to the dragon’s lair.

Rattlebones is relieved that his kitty-brother lives, and bathes in the divine healing that washes over him and Uli. he introduces Uli to the Wardens and shares a snippet of his backstory, as well as time and his broken common can convey anyway. He thanks Armand for the healing and gives a brief description of his skill set, again time and broken common limits the completeness of the description. He lets Elyngael know that he was ambushed in his sleep, and Uli and himself were taken here while unconscious, so he has no idea of where he is, let alone how much further they may need to travel, but the large moosetaur does make it clear that if the dragon is the leader of the wyvarans, then it is his enemy, and he will help fight it.

Will they head out immediately, or will they take the time to make some more last minute preparations, or planning, if any are left to be done, and what will their new marching order be with the addition of two new members?

"Hold on there Kemo Sabe." Armand turns to Atlas. "Two of those Wyvaran guys popped out behind us. I think I saw them come through some doors. Maybe we should check that out real quick and make sure there are no more hidden surprises. Plus we might find something useful, like a map, or troop dispersement orders in the tunnels or something."

He then turns to the strange looking minotaur. I've never seen anything like you, but I'm afraid we've been somewhat remiss in introducing ourselves. My name is Armand and I am a cleric of Gargul. That's Atlas, he's a mighty warrior, that's Owen a renown mage, that's Elyngael a good hunter and her wolf Brawn, that's Neshi a sorceror, and yonder is Vamir I believe he's a bloodwitch and a druid." Armand points to each one as he says there names.

"Armand is right. I guess I was too focused on being quiet and missed those doors. I apologize to all of you, and will be happy to make it up by exploring each doorway to see where they lead. Vamir winces as he realizes he spoke to the wrong Warden, and lowers his head for a brief moment in embarrassment. The young elf looks up, his eyes flashing, "Miss Elyngael, I simply misspoke. I know Brawn is yours, and you are his. There has never been any doubt of that, and I am well aware of your bond. It is as evident to others as the bond Melzat, and I share. There was no disrespect intended, and if you believe there was I apologize for it. But I am done being ignored, and shunted to the side by this group. I know I have much to learn, and I stated as much when I met you all. However, you four speak to each other and bounce ideas between you like children playing with a ball. That is great for you, however I am here too. I ask questions, attempt to learn from each of you, and have taken time to interact. What has it gotten me? I am standing in the lair of a dragon with people who could give two hoots about whether or not I may shed my blood, or give my life for them! By the way Armand, I am not a druid, I am a Greenmage, like my second father. I don't care if this is the wrong time or place for this conversation, speak now if I am to stay, or say nothing and when you go towards the dragon, I will wait, and after several minutes I will fly out of here."

Vamir nods at Rattlebones, " It is nice to meet you. I am Vamir Herven, a Bloodwitch, and Greenmage. This is Melzat, and at my waist is Zaita, my cauldron."

Vamir stands stiff, the anger in his eyes flashing as he awaits the groups answer.

Owen gets partway through a sentence in Tauric in response to Rattlebones but stops short at Vamir's angry words. He interposes himself slightly between Vamir and Elyngael, then speaks gently to the two of them. "Elyngael, why don't you take a moment and scout one of the side tunnels. Vamir, would you walk with me for a moment?"

He strolls around the edge of the cavernous main tunnel with Vamir and adopts a somewhat paternal tone: "Vamir, I hope you'll excuse Elyngael for her sharp words. We all seem to be a little on edge, what with a dragon that could descend on us at any moment. Your suggestion was a good one, and I'm sure she will take you up on the offer when she returns. A group this large is difficult to manage, especially when some of us are more familiar than others. You are a vital part of the Wardens, and we do care about you and your well-being. Your skills as a Greenmage make you the foremost among us when it comes to interacting with the Tree.
You have made great efforts to reach out to the rest of the Wardens--the failing, I think, lies with us. I am well aware of what fighters, archers, wizards, and clerics can do, and as a group we try to use those skills as best we can. I'll admit that I am less familiar with the abilities of a Bloodwitch, and it has been quite a while since we have seen Mack the Greenmage. We will strive to heed your words in our tactical discussions (such as they are) and to learn more about you and your skills. That takes time, of course, but I hope you'll bear with us in the interim.
Oh, and I rarely give this advice to young men, but it may be helpful to you: if you want a greater role in our plans, try boasting more. That will give us more of an idea of what you can do, it will insert you directly into the planning process, and you may find yourself a leader, in time."

As the two return to the party, he says [b]"I hope you'll forgive me for presuming to give you advice."

Rattlebones waits patiently during the lengthy conversation. Every herd has its rules, and it is unwise to stick your muzzle where it does not belong. He turns to Elyngael, "Wolf-Hunter, where do you go? We go other way."

Atlas has a suggestion for moving forward, and asks if everyone is OK with it.

Armand stops Atlas and suggests searching the two secret doors, that the wyvaran clerics used to ambush. He then introduces the party to Rattlebones, though makes a clerical error (Get it cleric-al error) when introducing Vamir.

Elyngael agrees with Armand and apologises for missing the two doors, and goes to check them out.

Neshi dismisses the tentacles, and nods to Rattlebones when he is introduced. He than follows Elyngael to check out the doors

Vamir apologises for his error concerning Brawn and assures Elyngael that he has no question in his mind as to whom Brawn belongs, and that he simply made a mistake, but Armand’s introducion error seemed to touch on a sore spot that has been brewing in his mind, and he takes the time to get it off his chest, make his presence known, and correct Armand as to his skill set. He then introduces himself to Rattlebones.

Owen takes Vamir aside to reassure him that his well being is important to the rest of the party, and apologizes for any slights that may have been imposed on the Greenmage. He tries to explain to Vamir that it was never anybody's intention to do so, it’s mostly a case of ignorance to the elf’s abilities that causes him to be overlooked, and suggests Vamir brag, a bit, about his skills, so that the others can better understand his role in the party and insert him in the planning. He then apologizes for presuming to give advice, not wanting to add fuel to the fire.

Rattlebones remains silent as he doesn’t want to stick his muzzle where it doesn’t belong, but is confused when Elyngael goes to check the secret doors, and asks her why she’s going the wrong way.

As Owen tries to smooth things over with Vamir and remedy the situation going forward, Elyngael, Brawn and Neshi go to check out the secret doors. They discover that the two doors open up to two small rooms no bigger than a coat closet, with no other exits. A quick glance reveals that the rooms, unlike the rest of the cavaran, are not natural occurrences, though there are no tool marks on the walls. Neshi and ELyngael can make a DC15 knowledge arcana checkHighlight to display spoiler: { the rooms were obviously made using magic, for the purpose of setting up an ambush}

As Vamir gives the Wardens a piece of his mind, and Owen swoops in to try to correct the situation, Ruffas shuffles back and forth uncomfortably, as the friction is making him uncomfortable, but he keeps his mouth shut for the time being, as he doesn’t feel it is his place to interject at the moment.

What do our intrepid heroes do next? Will they move on towards the dragon? Will they take more time to address Vamir’s concerns? Or will they do something else which will take their DM completely by surprise, destroying all his well thought out plans, and forcing him to post by the seat of his pants? Only time will tell.
