Armand turns to Vamir with a look of surprise that turns into somewhat a look of guilt. "Forgive me Vamir I've meant no offense. For one thing I must admit in my youth I led a somewhat sheltered life. I scarely know what powers a bloodwitch has let alone a greenmage. I thought a greenmage was a special kind of druid." He pauses, contemplating how to proceed. "I admit that this group can sometimes be quite headstrong. I've found it necessary to assert myself and make an effort to be heard, lest I get left behind as Atlas springs to action."
He smiles. "Atlas can tell you, when I first joined this group we encountered a merchant/trapper on his way to market. Atlas and the party were all about surrounding him on the assumption that he was evil first. I had to assert myself and try the diplomatic approach almost against their actions. It was quite amusing in the end, and that's how Atlas and I started developing our good cop bad cop approach." He offers his hand to Vamir. "Like all families there's the noisy and the quiet ones, I hope you will allow us noisy ones another chance."

OOC, Jeremy, I doubt we'll get to your carefullly laid plans as the enforced slow down / non posting starts in about a week and we're not supposed to be in combat at that point.....And I don't really think this party can do a dragon battle in one week since apparently we hold the record with a 7 week long battle sequence. ;P
DM edit: I wasn’t planning on letting you guys meet the dragon until after the break for, for that very reason, but isn’t it every good players goal to stump the DM? LOL...

Atlas laughs, probably a bit louder than he should, "Armand, Owen, you two are always keeping our house civil. It is needed and appreciated, but not nearly as fun." He winks and waits to see what the others find, ready to jump in at the slightest hint of trouble.
When it appears that all is well he comments to Vamir, "Vamir, the strength of our family here is our differences. The only way to work within those differences is through open and honest communication. Well done speaking your mind, thank you."

If there are no objections, Rattlebones will scout forward. "I use quiet feets. Come back in many-more-than-ten breaths." He stares at Uli, communicating in their unspoken language, before treading carefully down the hall. The moosetaur is surprisingly silent given his size.
Neshi looks at the small assassin rooms with Elyngael and nods Knowledge Arcana DC 16 .
" Well Elyngael these don't look to be much more that assassin holes."
OOC: (are there hinges on the doors? If there are, Neshi will use a burning hands or two to fuse the door hinges so they can not close.)
As Neshi sees nothing else of interest in the rooms, he heads back to the rest of the group.

Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 25 T:14, FF:21, CMD 29, HP 110/110 Saturday December 14th, 2019 9:35:18 PM "Neshi, thanks for checking out these doorways, or should I say traps, with me," Elyngael turns and follows him back to the group. "Have you any experience with someone like Rattlebones? He's certainly a big one!" she chuckles to herself as she thinks of all life's varieties contained in their small group of Wardens.
Yurneshi (Kent) AC:25 (21) / T(23)17 / F(20)16; HP: 84/85 CMD: 24 energy resistance 20 fire, spell resistance, Mage armor, stoneskin, bear's endurance Sunday December 15th, 2019 6:43:43 PM
Neshi ponders what Elyngael asked about Minotaurs and gathers his thoughts as they make their way back to the group.
"Minotaurs are different for sure. They prize, bravery, strength and honor above all. There is a firm belief that might makes right, and they are intimidating, strong, and nearly fearless."
"And while I will say that there is no animosity between we Wemics and the Minotuars. The same cannot necessarily be said of centaur relations."
He ponders a question out loud to himself afterward. "I wonder if he is of the Body or Soul of Imod?"
Vamir (Wade) AC:27 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 97/97 Ritual of Warding, Flying Broom, Protection from energy (fire)80/144, Barkskin (+5 NA) Sunday December 15th, 2019 7:14:37 PM
Vamir looks at those that took the time to acknowledge him, and more importantly his words. "Owen, Atlas, Armand thank you for at least acknowledging me, and my words. I wish I could boast, but truthfully, I have never done so. I can only state what I am capable of, and hope that works. If I am wanted, I will stay. If I am needed, I will stay. If I am too young, or not powerful enough to help, I will leave."
DM Jeremy Monday December 16th, 2019 6:32:29 AM
Armand is at first surprised, then feels guilty when Vamir spills his heart out. He admits his knowledge of bloodwitches and greenmages is basically nothing, and also admits that the Tree Wardens can be a bit headstrong, and shares that he was like Vamir originally, but learned he had to assert himself, and shares the story of when that first played out.he offers his hand and says, "Like all families there's the noisy and the quiet ones, I hope you will allow us noisy ones another chance." alluding to the fact that he considers Vamir a part of the family.
Atlas laughs saying, "Armand, Owen, you two are always keeping our house civil. It is needed and appreciated, but not nearly as fun." Alluding that he considers Vamir part of that house. He waits to see if Neshi and Elyngael find any trouble, and when the coast is clear, tells Vamir, "Vamir, the strength of our family here is our differences. The only way to work within those differences is through open and honest communication. Well done speaking your mind, thank you." again alluding to the idea that Vamir is a member of the family.
Rattlebones stealthily scouts ahead.
Elyngael thanks Neshi for helping with the assassin holes, than chuckles at the immense variety within their group, and asks Neshi if he ever had any encounters with one such as Ratttlebones.
Neshi explains that the doors lead to assassin holes made by magic, and attempts to weld the hinges. He answers Elyngael by giving a brief description of Minotaur society.
Vamir thanks Atlas, Armand, and Owen for acknowledging him, but claims he doesn’t know how to boast, though he can share his capabilities. He says he will stay if he is needed and/or wanted, but will leave if he is only taking up space.
Neshi attempts to weld the hinges on the assassin doors using Burning Hands. His first attempt melts the hinge clean off, but luckily, it was a bottom hinge, so the door barely moved, and only made a barely audible thud, as it settled slightly. He quickly learned to compensate, and managed to weld the rest of the hinges tight, leaving them glowing cherry red.
Rattlebones leaves Uli with the Wardens then scouts ahead. As the moosetaur travels deeper into the dragon’s lair, the temperature begins to increase exponentially, as he travels. Upon rounding a curve in the tunnel Rattlebones begins to see a glow that quickly gets brighter, having the appearance of the distant glow of a massive fire, and he realizes that moving forward will be dangerous due to the intense heat, unless it can be mitigated somehow.
Vamir drops the gauntlet, making it clear that he needs the Wardens to be straightforward with him, as to whether he should stay or go.
Ruffas’s discomfort is very noticable and so as a third party observer, he finally says, ”I know its probably not my place, but as an impartial observer, I’ve had the opportunity to observe you guys, and I must say you guys , and I mean all you guys seem to work very well together, with what I believe is true concern and love for each other. The word “Family” has been tossed around and I can think of no closer word to describe what you guys have. I know that all families have moments where one member feels insignificant, and at those times it is of the highest importance that the rest of the family come around them and assure them of their place in the family, and address the issues that led to the feelings of insignificance. I see that some of you have tried, and have alluded to his place in the family, but mayhaps it may set Vamir’s heart at ease if instead of alluding, you are straightforward with your feelings for the young elf”.
Armand (Robert D) AC 23/touch11/flat 21 HP 88/88 CMD 22 Character Sheet Monday December 16th, 2019 10:48:28 AM "Vamir I think you should say. We all bring different skills to the group. No one's skills are more important than the others."
Armand looks around. "Hey, where'd that big moose guy go?" He scratches his head. Then he turns to Vamir again.
"Vamir, what are the capabilities of your cauldron? Can it keep track of a party member, like a scrying thing, if you are not actively scrying that member?"
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Monday December 16th, 2019 12:08:59 PM
Atlas shrugs, "Hey Vamir, you're not leaving without a fight. You may be fairly new to our group, but you're one of us now. I'm sorry if you feel like we haven't needed you, but we do. More importantly though, we want you here as one of us. Granted, now that I've said this I'll have to box your ears if you think otherwise, because then you'll be calling me a liar and I cannot have that from a brother in arms."
Atlas looks to Ruffus, "You big lug, next thing you know you'll be one of us. We could add a wing to our home to accommodate you."
Vamir (Wade) AC:27 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 97/97 Ritual of Warding, Flying Broom, Protection from energy (fire)80/144, Barkskin (+5 NA) Monday December 16th, 2019 7:59:47 PM
Vamir shakes his head at Atlas and cannot help but chuckle, perhaps a little louder than intended. "Armand, Zaita is more like the focus needed for scrying. I would still need to cast the spell, and go from there. In a few years she will be able to do so much more but for now the answer is no." Vamir looks at Atlas and wonders to himself if he was wearing his feelings on his sleeve. " I will stay, this is as much of a family as I have had since Gornin passed and for that I am thankful. More so than you can imagine. Thank you."
Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 25 T:14, FF:21, CMD 29, HP 110/110 Monday December 16th, 2019 9:50:21 PM "Vamir, watch out for Atlas, he really means what he says. He is everyone's big brother, so he equally protects us and "boxes our ears". I will agree with him and everyone else, we need every fighter on our side that we can get" Elyngael joins the group. "Neshi was just kind enough to educate me about Minotaur society. I love all of our differences, because that is also our strength. It is not bragging to let others know what you can do, it's practical. We don't have time in the heat of a fight to find out our assets."

Rattlebones returns, crouched down so his antlers do not graze the ceiling of the tunnel. He looks behind him for a moment to ensure he was not followed, then nods and addresses the group. "The tunnel is straight for more-than-five steps, then is not-straight. At not-straight, it is hot. Hot-hot. More than campfire hot. We need magics or sillymonder hide. Dragon den."
DM Jeremy Tuesday December 17th, 2019 6:01:48 AM
Armand tells Vamir that everyone’s skills are of equal importance. He wonders where Rattlebones went, as he asks Vamir about Ziata.
Atlas tells Vamir he is indeed a member of the family in a way only Atlas can, and then lets Ruffas know he is winning a place in the family as well.
Vamir chuckles at Atlas’s modes operatus for sharing his feelings. He then answers Armand’s question, and shares that he will stay and that he is thankful to be a part of a family again.
Elyngael informs Vamir that Atlas is everyone's big brother, and is sincere in his words. She tells Vamir that everyone is needed, then mentions Neshi’s education on Minotaurs, and shares that she loves the differences found in the party claiming that is their strength. She tells Vamir that telling the party about ones skills isn’t bragging, it’s much more practical than finding out on the battlefield.
Rattlebones returns and in his broken common, informs everyone about what he found, and the need to mitigate the heat.
At Atlas's words, Ruffas blushes, and says, "I think I would find living with a group such as you guys a suitable and welcome replacement family for the loss of my real ones.
With Vamir feeling more comfortable about his place in the Wardens, and Rattlebone's description of what is ahead, how will our intrepid heroes proceed?
Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 132/132 Tuesday December 17th, 2019 11:37:42 AM
Knowing what they face ahead, Atlas puts his guilt for killing Ruffas' family away and focuses on the task at hand. "El, you've got fire protection right? Can you take a peak and give us the lay of the land ahead? Knowing how far away the dragon is would be helpful. Also, we will need to spread out so that her fire breath doesn't get us all in one attempt. Look for a few spots for the casters to spread out and get cover behind rocks and such. When you get back we'll draw a quick map on the ground here before we dive in."
Then turning to Rattlebones, "What's your strength? Do you cast, use ranged weapons, or hit them head-on with those antlers of yours?"
Remembering Vamir's concerns, he also looks to him, "Vamir, what's your strength going to be in this fight, helping others or hurting the dragon? I admit that I have a hard time keeping up with what you casters can do. My brain just isn't wired that way. I think it is because Armand cursed, I mean blessed me at one point." He grins at Armand before waiting on Vamir's reply.

Neshi scratches his head a bit when the talk goes to strengths and what they will do with the dragon.
"Well, Unfortunately a lot of my offensive power will not be effective with a fire giant. I do have a few things up my sleeve perhaps, so if you, fighter types will wail a few moments before charging in so you don't get caught in my spells it would be appreciated."
"We also probably need to be ready for the dragon to have more than a few foot soldiers laying in wait as well, so don't go all hyper focused on the big lizard, and forget to watch everyone's backs, so-to-speak."
Rufus, do you know how high the cavern is that the dragon is in? or the approximate size or layout? Are there other entries and exits?
At Atlas's "Antler" comment, Neshi tries hard to suppress a smile, but can't quite do it.
"Um, Atlas, I think you mean "Horns". Deer have antlers, Bulls have horns."

Armand also scratches his head. "Wait a minute, this doesn't make a lot of sense. I wouldn't think the actual lair would be so hot. If it was that hot, then all her treasure would be constantly in a state of almost melting and thus being damaged. That doesn't sound like normal dragon avarice.
He continues thinking. "I have the scrolls that can protect us from fire but I don't want to use them unless we are close or they'll run out before we come to the dragon. Maybe we should all move a little closer and then use some magic detection to see if there is more to the problem?"
He turns to the group. "Owen, Vamir, Neshi? Thoughts on why it would be so hot?

Vamir looks at at Atlas, "My main area of offensive spells are touch spells, and attack a targets strength, dexterity, constitution and mental faculties. I can also cast curses, and heal as well as remove most disease, poison, and curses. If we get in to trouble I can take use to the shadow plane, or return us to the tree. I am utility in nature, and try to fill the voids created where people's abilities create gaps. Also, I can cast some prying eyes to scout for us and fly on a broom!" Vamir takes a deep breath, and looks around at the others.

Rattlebones turns to Atlas. "I am Uli are hunters. Jump and bite and claw and gore. My antlers are thirsty for blood of the prey." The moosetaur scratches absent-mindedly at his cheek and huffs through his wide nostrils. "You have no-fire magic? Good, good. You know what color is the dragon?"
DM Jeremy Wednesday December 18th, 2019 6:06:40 AM
Atlas has a pang of guilt again over Ruffas’s family, but puts it aside to focus on the situation ahead. He asks Elyngael if she has fire protection, and if so would she be willing to scout ahead to determine the source of the heat. He asks both Rattlebones and Vamir what their strengths are going forward, adding that he is clueless about the strengths of casters.
Neshi says his offensive power will be limited against a fire dragon, but alludes to having some tricks up his sleeves, and asks that the martial types hold off on charging in until he has a chance to set up some spell effects. He then asks Ruffas if he has any idea of the layout of the caveran.
Armand is confused as to why the lair is so hot. He claims he has fire protection scrolls for everyone, but feels he should wait until they are absolutely necessary to proceed before using them. He asks his fellow casters if they have any thoughts as to why it's so hot.
Vamir answers Atlas’s question and shares his strengths with the party.
Elyngael is as clueless as the others as to the reason for the heat, and asks Vamir how far his “Prying Eyes” can see and whether or not he could use them to find the source of the heat, as well as give a heads up as to what to expect.
Rattlebones answers Altas by saying that Uli and himself are hunters, that use tooth, claw, and in the case of Rattlebones himself, antlers to deal with their enemies. He is glad that fire protection is available, and asks if the color of the dragon is known.
Ruffas catches Atlas’s twinge of guilt, and puts his large hand on the fighters shoulder, and says, ”I have said it before, but I will say it again, You and your friends are not the ones who are to blame for my loss, that distinction belongs to the mountain giant chieftain who forced my family to join the ill fated invasion, which placed us at the wrong place at the wrong time, a place we would have never been at otherwise!, but it is strange how the gods work, I lose one family, and in only a couple of days, I’m beginning to feel as though I’ve found another.” He than turns to Neshi and says, "I'm as clueless as you, as this is the first time I've been here as well".
What will our intrepid heroes do next? Will Vamir use his “Prying Eyes”, or will they just move ahead until they can’t any further without heat/fire mitigation and decide then.
"Rattlebones, the dragon is, from what we know, a red dragon. so our fire magic will not be helpful, which unfortunately is the majority of my magic currently."

Prying eyes:You create a number of semitangible, visible magical orbs (called “eyes”) equal to 1d4 + your caster level. These eyes move out, scout around, and return as you direct them when casting the spell. Each eye can see 120 feet (normal vision only) in all directions.
While the individual eyes are quite fragile, they're small and difficult to spot. Each eye is a Fine construct, about the size of a small apple, that has 1 hit point, AC 18 (+8 bonus for its size), flies at a speed of 30 feet with a +20 bonus on Fly skill checks and a +16 bonus on Stealth skill checks. It has a Perception modifier equal to your caster level (maximum +15) and is subject to illusions, darkness, fog, and any other factors that affect your ability to receive visual information about your surroundings. An eye traveling in darkness must find its way by touch.
When you create the eyes, you specify instructions you want them to follow in a command of no more than 25 words. Any knowledge you possess is known by the eyes as well.
In order to report their findings, the eyes must return to your hand. Each replays in your mind all it has seen during its existence. It takes an eye 1 round to replay 1 hour of recorded images. After relaying its findings, an eye disappears.

Neshi informs Rattlebones that they believe that the dragon is a red dragon.reminding everyone that fire magic is out.
Armand asks Rattlbones if he noticed any obstacles along the way, and if not, suggests they travel until it becomes too hot to do so, then use magical means to scout from there.
Elyngael seems to like Armand’s suggestion, and offers to take point with Rattlebones.
Vamir answers Elyngael’s question about the range of his prying eyes spell, and is willing to cast the spell if everyone else so desires.
Rattlbones answers Armands question, informing everyone that the tunnel is clear of any obstacles, and asks for fire protection.
Owen agrees that magical scouting may be the best bet.
The Party seems to be set on the idea of heading to the point that it becomes too hot to travel without protection, and then have Vamir cast his prying eyes spell to give them a heads up as to what to expect going forward, a plan that Ruffas agrees makes the most sense . Rattlebones and Elyngael are just about to head out, taking point, when all of a sudden, a small orb of multi colored light appears in the midst of the Wardens. Before anyone can act, the orb quickly expands until it completely absorbs all the Wardens, At first you are a little shocked, but something about the light of the orb you find soothing and peaceful. When you look around you notice that Ruffas is statue still, and any attempt to get a reaction from him fails. You also notice that the permanent dancing lights, while still giving off their lights, have ceased to dance. The Orb begins to pulsate, slowly at first, but the pulses rapidly increase until, in an instant, you find that you are no longer in the dragon’s lair but instead you find yourself in an idealistic winter wonderland, at night. Evergreens, covered in snow, line what appears to be a well traveled and well maintained path. In spite of the wintry landscape, for reasons unexplainable, you feel no cold, and feel compelled to head down the path. The path is lit by everburning torches set at measured intervals, so as to make the trek easy. You travel for only a few minutes before you begin to see the glow of what may be a campfire. You travel further, and realize that it is no campfire, but a banquet table laden with every choice eats and drinks a person could desire, and well lit by hundreds of candles. Around the table there are comfortable looking empty chairs, enough for everyone, including three very comfy looking pillows, one each for Neshi, Brawn and Uli next to one of the pillows is a chair, that though it has no legs appears to be as comfy looking as the rest, and Rattlebones instantly realizes it was built just for him, so he could dine around the table with his friends. At the head of the table is what appears to be a elderly human male wearing a red coat trimmed in white fur that reaches to his ankles. The coat is unfastened, and you can see he is wearing an emerald green tunic, that like the coat goes to his ankles. He is wearing black boots, on his feet, and has a wreath of holly on his snow white head. His face is kindness personified, framed by his snow white beard and long hair.
”Welcome to the table of holiday joy!”, the old man says with a gleam in his eyes. ”Come show our guests to their seats!” he says with a smile, and out of nowhere what appear to be elves, the size of halflings, appear and lead you to your seats, and begin waiting on you. The old man says, ”You can call me Nicholas, and I have it on good authority that you have been very good this year”.

Atlas gives a hearty laugh, "I think the Wold is somehow protecting this dragon from my sword. However, I'm curious if we can somehow convert this wintery weather and use it to get into the dragon's lair."
As is typical Atlas fashion, he just keeps talking about what is on his mind, putting more powerful individuals on the back burner until he can get his bearings. Finally he shuts up enough to allow the others to make their greetings, holding his until last. "Hi Nick, this is nice, but I'm curious why you left Ruffus behind?" He turns to Armand and Owen after he speaks and gives them a wink, then a shrug with a smile.

He takes a seat and looks over the fair on the table.
Then he whispers to Vamir, "Just try to take things in stride."

The hackles on Rattlebones and Uli rise as they find themselves in a new locale, but they quickly relax when they see the rest of the party nonplussed. Uli even takes the opportunity to squirm in the snow as they walk down the path. The big moosetaur is taken aback by the feast, and drops to one knee while placing a hand over his heart. "Big thanks for many foods. May you always find prey." He sits in the chair made for him while Uli lounges on a giant pillow. "You are... Fan? Far? Fell?... Forest person plays tricks?"

DM Jeremy Friday December 20th, 2019 6:11:40 PM
Owen lets the newer members know that this is a normal thing for them.
Atlas takes a bit to chill from getting pumped for the fight ahead , but when he eventually he does, he cracks a joke about the Wold trying to protect Temorianalis, then before to eat, he asks Nicholas why Ruffas was left behind.
Armand comments on Nicholas’s good comment, and tries to pinpoint what deity if any Nicholas may be as he checks out the grub, he whispers to Vamir to just go with it.
Neshi is growing used to unexpected plane shifts. As he checks out the feast, he says, "Well, I guess that would depend on your definition of "good"
Elyngael and Brawn make themselves comfortable, and then asks Nicholas if he has any hints as to how to fight a dragon.
Vamir is a little taken aback by the situation at first, but chills a bit at Armand’s words, then says he’ll try. He asks Nicholas where they are.
Like Vamir, Rattlebones is shaken at first by the plane shift, but when he sees the others taking it in stride he relaxes. He thanks Nicholas for the banquet, and asks him if he is a fairy, in his broken common.
Armand realizes that Nicholas isn’t a power or deity of any kind, but he does remember reading a published diary of a planes traveling wizard, who mentioned a plane he called earth and shared several of earth’s customs, that he observed, including an individual named Saint Nicholas, or often Santa Clause, and sometimes Father Christmas, who’s description was much like the man before him.
“Ho, ho, ho, so many questions, ho,ho, ho. I’ll start by saying you are in my realm of authority, a place called the North Pole on a plane called earth. I’m just a man, or was I suppose, but sometimes legends have a way of making someone greater than they originally were. Dragons are beyond my knowledge, but I would say avoiding their breath weapon or mitigating it, would be prudent. And as to why no Ruffas, Who said he wasn’t invited?
With a wave of his hand, Ruffas comes walking into the banquet clearing, but he isn’t alone. Following the friendly fire giant is Isabel and Simon. On Simon’s shoulder is Wiz-Bang , and behind them all the people whom the Wardens have come to love over the years keep trickling in. As the party grows, the tables grows to accommodate them, and as the table grows, the quantity of food and chairs grows in equal portions.
May your celebration be merry, but before it starts in earnest, the gifts! At that, the halfling sized elves hand each of the Wardens empty canteen and a small coin purse a detect magic reveals a mild conjuration aura on the items, and upon further investigation, you are able to identify the items as a Self Filling Canteen, and a Traveler’s Purse.
The Self Filling Canteen once filled will the owners favorite non-magical liquid, will automatically refill itself an hour after being emptied.
The Traveler’s Purse always has just enough coin to cover normal traveling expenses, such as a room at an inn, a meal, a pint, ECT… It never has more than 20gp and any attempt to use the purse for non-traveling expenses, causes the Traveler’s Purse to explode causing 3d6 damage to the owner.

At Neshi’s Word, Nicholas stands up and reaches for a crystal decanter. Filled with a purple liquid, and pours himself a glass. “I’ve always wanted to try this stuff, but wanted to be in the presence of a Taur. Since there are two of you here, now seems the perfect time”. He pours both Neshi and Rattlebones a glass, and then hands the Taurs the decanter, which still has plenty to fill 2 canteens. He salutes the two taurs as if to let them know he wants to share this moment with them, and then shares a drink with them, “Ho,ho,ho, that’s some good stuff!”
DM Jeremy Sunday January 5th, 2020 7:31:33 PM OOC… the Traveling Purses and Self-Filling Canteens have no monetary value. They are just something I wanted to give you guys, even though in reality, they won’t really affect the game as consumables don’t count against ones WBL once used.
It seems like hours since the party has started, maybe days. The nature of Nicholas’s realm makes it hard to tell for sure. As the party rages on you discover that though you are capable of consuming copious amounts of alcohol, you never find yourself feeling even the slightest bit tipsy.
All good things must come to an end however, and a multicolored orb like the one that brought you to Nicholas’s realm appears, and like before it grows and begins to throb it’s peaceful sound as the light pulsates. With a flash, all your loved ones are gone, and you can only assume that Nicholas sent them back to where they were. The only one who is still with you is Ruffas the friendly fire giant. Nicholas stands and says, ”Before I send you back, there is someone I think you should meet.” and with that, a small sized bear man, or Ursine Beastfolk comes down the trail, entering the banquet area riding on a bear the size of Brawn and Uli.
Finnan and Steapa are traveling through some dense woods, when out of nowhere, a multi-colored orb appears in front of them. At first it is about the size of a grapefruit, but quickly it grows in mass until it is the size of Steapa. As it grows, it begins to make a soothing throbbing sound, and to pulsate. Finnan realizes that though the winds were blowing, everything including the trees are all statue still, and only himself and Steapa seem to have movement of any kind. With a flash the ursine friends find themselves in a winter wonderland, yet they aren’t cold for mysterious reasons. Neither the beast folk nor his trusty bear friend are frightened by the happenings for reasons unexplainable, and they find themselves on a well groomed trail, edged by snow covered evergreens, that is lit at even intervals by everburning torches, as it is evening. Finnan feels compelled to travel down the trail, until it opens into a well lit clearing with a huge banquet table with the remains of a huge party still present. He sees a few humans, one with a martial bearing, one with the trappings of a cleric, and one with wizard trappings. There is a Liontaur, and a Minotaur that resembles a moose, rather than a bovine, by the Moosetaur’s side is a smilodon (saber toothed tiger) there are two elves, one with a companion that resembles a weeping willow and the other with a wolf. At the head of the table sits an elderly looking human with snow white hair and a long snow white beard. He is wearing a red coat that reaches to his ankles with a green tunic underneath. On his head is a wreath of holly and he is currently smoking a long stemmed pipe. With Finnan’s arrival, the elderly gentleman stands and says, ”Good you have arrived, I’ll leave you to it then!” after which he puts his finger on the side of his nose, and disappears.

Atlas shrugs, "This day just keeps getting stranger." However, his first focus before normalcy returns is to check-in on Wiz-bang, "It is so good to see you my friend! Before you go, please tell us about how the Tree is doing. We have been gone long."
Upon seeing Finnan and hearing him speak, Atlas just smiles, "And Stranger." He approaches Finnan, "Fate seems to be a strange thing. Here we are about to fight a dragon and it throws two people here willing to join us in this fate. I wonder how we would have fared if you two didn't show up." He looks about a bit confused, "Sorry, you don't know that you're the second, but Rattlebones there just showed up as well. Anyway, we'll get on with the pleasantries at another time. For now we have a dragon to fight. Is there anything we need to know about you before we fight together? I'm up front and if someone is going to die then it is going to be me first, got it?" Looking over at Rattlebones he says, "Did you hear that? That's one of our rules here, even if the others don't agree with it, know it is the way of things around here." He smiles and concludes with, "Armand, have a talk with Gargul for me when you can so that he's clear on that as well."
Finnan - Steapa (Zach R.) Monday January 6th, 2020 5:05:39 PM
Finnan smiles at Atlas. "I'm ok with that rules, so long as you don't die." Considering the warriors words he continues. "As for what you need to know about me... I am great in melee and mounted combat. Solid in ranged combat, minimal magic to assist me, great in the art of detection and no being detected, and I have a rather uncanny way of sensing people's motives. Though to be fair, I have neglected many of the more intellectual pursuits, and I sometimes don't use my words as efficiently as I could."
"I've not fought many dragons... but I have trained for such an occasion. I'm not fearless, but I am brave. That is to say, I maybe afraid or fearful in certain situations, but I will find my resolve and always go anyway."

Atlas asks Wiz-Bang how the Tree is doing to which Wiz-Bang answers, ”Everyone happy, even Tree happy. Wiz-Bang talk to Tree just before shiny thing appear and Tree very happy!” Atlas muses at the strangeness of the day with two heroes join up, and Nicholas’s realm, it has been a strange day indeed. He shares the “rules”, that being no one dies but him, even asking Armand to talk to Lord Gargul about it.
Finnan introduces himself and pledges his sword and friendship. He agrees to Atlas’s “rule”, but adds one condition, Atlas doesn’t die either. He shares a bit about his strengths and skills.
Armand, always the diplomat, takes the time to introduce everyone, commenting on how they have at least one person from every size category.
Neshi introduces himself, and then asks if they should buff up now, or wait, as they don’t know how much time has passed since they left the dragon’s lair.
Elyngael introduces herself to Finnan and shares some advice ending in what she believes (your humble narrator agrees) is the most important thing, and that is you count on each other.
Owen makes his introduction.
Rattlebones makes his introduction, in his broken and naive, yet goodhearted and charming way.
A fire giant who has been dining with the Wardens, and is clearly a friend, clears his throat, and says, ”Well met Finnan, My name is Ruffas, and I am currently on a quest to regain my honor. Your new teammates have seen fit, in their kindness, to allow me the privilege of joining them in their dragon slaying quest. My hope is that if I am able to steel my wits and help take down the beast, I will once again be able to hold my head high, with my honor restored!” Finnan can tell right away that this is no ordinary fire giant, and senses no ill will or falsehood in him.
What do our intrepid heroes do now? Do they take advantage of the safety of Nicholas’s realm to discuss strategy? Do they buff up and leave to face impending doom, I mean their destiny? Do they just return to where they came, in the condition they left? Or do they once again amaze their humble DM with their ingenuity, and do something completely unexpected?

Without pausing Atlas jumps right back into where they were, "Now let's get to killing this dragon. It felt like we were getting close, should we go back, buff up, and be done with it? I'm getting tired of all the distractions and would like to get back home so we can show Ruffas the wonder known as the Tree of Parting. Vamir introduces himself to Finnan and shares a bit of his skill set for Rattlebones and Finnan’s benefit.
Atlas tells Finnan that Owen is being humble and shares a funny story, well, funny now anyways. He is anxious to get going at get the deed done, and get home. He wishes to show Ruffas the Tree and again extends an invitation for the giant to join them there as a permanent resident. He extends the invite to Rattlebones and Finnan as well.
Finnan thanks everyone for the introductions, and shares his strategy. Zach if you could add the regular, touch, and flatfooted AC’s, HP, and CMD for both Finnan and Steapa to your header, that would be great. Thanks DM Jeremy
Armand is amazed to remember two spells that he cast previously. He is convinced that the dangerous heat situation that Rattlebones ran into is a trap, and suggests that since Ruffas is immune to fire he scout ahead, then they buff up and go, reminding everyone that he has scrolls of energy protection.
Elyngael likes the ideas brought forth, and like Atlas she wants to go home, to the Tree, but she refuses to do so until the current evil is subdued.
Neshi offers up some spells, and reminds everyone not to rush the dragon until he has had a chance to try something.
Ruffas is in agreement with the plan, but warns his friends, ”I’m not the sneakiest of individuals, but I can yell real load if I get into trouble!”
When everyone is ready to leave Nicholas’s Realm, the now familiar orb appears, and starts it’s growing throbbing and pulsating, until with a flash our heroes have arrived right where they left off in the cave. The casters in the party realize that they have regained 2 spell slots, if anyone had picked up a condition, it is gone, and everyone regains 24 HP, with any left over becoming temporary HP. (Everything except the temporary HP was mentioned in an e-mail sparked by Robert, but I wanted to make sure no one missed it)
The cave hasn’t changed since you left, in fact it takes a brief moment after your arrival for the permanent dancing lights to resume dancing, leaving you to believe that time in the Wold stood still during your time in Nicholas’s Realm. Ruffas makes his way down the cavern and you can hear the crunch of his large feet on the gravel floor for quite some time before the sound becomes too faint to hear due to his distance from you. You can tell as he leaves he is trying to be stealthy, but is failing horribly. After a few minutes, you begin to hear the crunching of large feet on gravel. The sound gets louder and louder, until you see Ruffas coming around a corner with a grave look on his face. ”The passage is blocked by a 50 ft wide gorge. The gorge is the source of the heat, as it has flames shooting up 20 feet into the air. I couldn’t see how deep the gorge was or what was at the bottom, all I could see was fire. I guess that’s why they call it Fire Mountain”.

Armand scratches his head. "Maybe we're missing something. I don't think Wyvaran's or Duergar are immune to fire. How are they getting the loot they steal to the dragon? Let's search for secret passages on this side of the fire gorge first. Then if we have to we use the wand to recast fly and we put on some fire protection." He turns to Ruffus. "You say the passage was blocked by the gorge? does that mean there is no passage beyond the gorge, that this tunnel just goes up to it and stops?"

Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 34 (T 21 FF 27) , CMD: 31, HP 156/132 Wednesday January 8th, 2020 1:25:20 PM
Atlas keeps watch as the group searches. He's tempted to use his winged boots again, but he only has two charges left for the day and he knows he needs one to fight the dragon. Best to save the other until it is required.
Vamir (Wade) AC:27 T:16 FF: 14 CMD: 20 Hps: 121/97 Ritual of Warding, Flying Broom, Protection from energy (fire)80/144, Barkskin (+5 NA) Wednesday January 8th, 2020 8:54:22 PM
Vamir ponders the information Ruffas brings back. "Is it possible ithe fire is an illusion? Or if not is it possible to fly over it if it doesn't reach the roof?
Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 25 T:14, FF:21, CMD 29, HP 110/110 Wednesday January 8th, 2020 9:30:53 PM
Elyngael is frustrated with the stalemate. "There has to be something we are missing. Vamir is right it could just be an illusion. How can we prove it? Meanwhile, Finnan, I will help you search."
Neshi moves forward to where he can see the gorge and tries to see if the fire is natural, elemental or magical in nature.
Owen Marcellus (Weston W.) AC: 18/14/14; HP: 93/93 (24/24 Temp); CMD: 20; Contingency, Darkvision, Spider Climb, Seeming, See Invisibility, Fly, Mass Bear's Endurance d20+13=20 ; Wednesday January 8th, 2020 11:13:10 PM
Owen chimes in after Atlas tells the story about Elyngael. "Actually, Mack stabbed me once, too. It was magical double of Mack, but that still counts in my book."
While the others look for secret passages, Owen casts Detect Magic to see if this is a natural effect or a magical one. He also looks looks to see if he can see the other side. Perception: 20.
Rattlebones (Tanner) -- HP 104 | AC 16/15/-- | CMD 14 | F+14/R+9/W+21 Thursday January 9th, 2020 3:06:45 AM
OOC: Wednesday post because Tanner was up late finishing this character sheet.
You see a diminutive, bipedal black cat. He has yellow eyes that silently judge. He wears a devastatingly chic courtier's outfit, with a black three-quarter coat, lace shirt, leather gorget, and white fur trim around the shoulders. He carries an ornate walking staff and small whisps of illusion magic trail from fingers at random times.
Rattlebones repeats his introduction story to the newcomer, as well as anyone who may have missed it the first time he met the party...
Rattlebones was formerly a wizard's familiar, until the reborn Sargrass infused him with sapience. His former master took the sudden change with grace, and set about tutoring his newest colleague in the ways of magic. Rattlebones discovered that he was blessed with natural talent in illusion and divination, and quickly became a Seer of Jantierri. Like most cats, he grew bored, and with gratitude to his former master set off to find his way in the world. While traveling in the northern continent, he was ambushed by lizardmen one night and dragged down to their caverns. He was to be scheduled to be eaten by a dragon, until saved by the adventurers from the Tree of Parting.
I know a thing or two about illusions. Just a dabbling, really." Rattlebones absent-mindedly licks the fur on the back of his paw. His voice is a smooth falsetto. "Just magic a piece of something flammable over to the fire. If it doesn't light on fire, it is an illusion. If it does light, cast detect magic just in case it is an active glamer being made to look like it can catch things on fire."

Armand can’t figure out how the Duergar and Wyvarans deliver the loot since neither is immune to fire. He suggests looking for secret passageways, and asks Ruffas for some more details about the gorge.
Finnan says he has pretty sharp senses, and may be of some help in finding hidden doors. He starts petting Steapa as he mentions that he can offer some energy protection to himself and Steapa, but could use some more. He then asks what kind of dragon are they dealing with.
Armand keeps watch though he is feeling anxious to get going.
Vamir asks Ruffas some questions about the fiery gorge, he wonders if it is an illusion.
Elyngael is getting frustrated at all the obstacles, she too wonders if it is an illusion, and offers to help Finnan search for hidden passages.
Neshi tries to determine what kind of fire they are dealing with.
Owen tells a story of a former member of the Wardens stabbing him. Owen casts detect magic on the flames.
Rattlebones gives some insight on how to determine if the fire is real.
Not sure when we went from asking Ruffas about the gorge to actually being at the gorge but I’ll go with the flow. The heat from the fiery gorge is so intense that you would need to protect yourselves from it a good 5 min before coming upon it to avoid taking nonlethal damage, which is why Rattlebones couldn’t give any account of the gorge before. I’ll allow a ret-con saying you cast the appropriate spells to protect yourselves from the heat, but I would still like you to mention the castings in your next posts, and remember 5 min have past since they were cast.
When you arrive at the gorge the passage widens a bit, and you see a solid mass of flame over 20ft tall coming out of the gorge. From the ground, you can’t see anything on the other side due to the flames, though there is about 20ft between the top of the flames and the ceiling. You notice that the ceiling appears to be higher on the other side of the gorge (about 100ft). Every test shows the fire to be very real, and Neshi is able to determine that the fire is natural. Though he can’t see it, because of the flames, he surmises that there must be a magma flow down there somewhere, and that some naturally occurring combustible gas is the fuel for the flames. Our Rangers aren’t able to find any secret passages, but they do notice that though there is ample foot traffic here, it is all made from only 7 distinct footprints: one very large dragon (obviously Temorianalis) two medium sized dragons, and 4 wyvaran. When they share their findings with the others, Ruffas asks, ”Didn’t two of those wyvarans we just fought have the ability to turn into a medium sized dragon? If they can do that I bet they can cast protection spells as well”.

Finnan and Steapa don't quite know how it happened but they are in the gorge. Finnan makes sure the the resistance from from fire is cast upon himself and Steapa and that he casts barkskin on himself. He then keeps his eyes peeled, finding the dragon tracks. "It appears the is one very large dragon, two medium sized dragons, and 4 wyvarans. Looks like we may have to go in this way." Finnan is very cautious and his his sword at the ready.

Atlas looks about, then turns to the others, "Well, do we find a way to stop the fire or do we fly over it? Either way, I don't think we'll have the ability to exit quickly if things go south when fighting."
Armand (Robert D) AC 23/touch11/flat 21 HP 88/88 CMD 22 Character Sheet Thursday January 9th, 2020 5:49:00 PM "Okay this is it." Armand takes out several scrolls from his handy haversack. Resist Energy (fire) 10, 40 minutes x5 Protection from Energy (fire) CL5 so 50 hit points X4.
Brawn, Atlas, Rattlebones, Owen get Protection from Energy 50. (Elyngael and Vamir already have one going...at higher level.
Neshi and Vamir's plant familiar whose name I forget, each get 1 Resist Energy fire 10 (for 40 minutes) (There are 3 left). Who else needs protecting? Also These spells do stack, so if you have both and get hit by fire dragon breath, you ignore 10 points and then have it eat into Protection from energy spell.
Once done casting Armand looks to Owen. "I think we need to go ahead and use the wand of Fly again. It will give us a 60 movement and plus we'll be flying, which is something that may be unexpected."

Owen uses the wand of Fly on everyone in preparation for crossing the chasm. "Is everyone ready to go? We may find a dragon right on the other side." Once everyone is ready, he'll cast Haste as well, for that extra little boost.
Rattlebones (Tanner) -- HP 104 | AC 16/15/-- | CMD 14 | F+14/R+9/W+21 Thursday January 9th, 2020 11:57:48 PM
Rattlebones is elated by the abjuration magic, and tests it by repeatedly darting his paw into the fire. "Tremble in fear, little flames! We come to destroy your master!" His squeaky voice giggles. "Okay, that's enough." He walks back over to the party. "Armand, you beautiful man, thank you. After we are magicked against fire and flying off the ground, I'm going to turn invisible. I will be close by, providing support. If necessary, if super-duper necessary, I can teleport four of us away. The code word for requesting teleportation will be: Antidisestablishmentarianism."
DM Jeremy Friday January 10th, 2020 6:08:46 AM
After hooking himself up with some fire protection, Finnan shares what he and Elyngael have found and think crossing the gorge is probably the only way.
Armand hooks everyone who can’t do it themselves up with some fire protection, then asks if Owen would use the wand of fly on them, obviously to get across the gorge, but also to add more maneuverability, and hopefully add an element of surprise.
Elyngael thanks Armand for the fire protection, then asks Owen for some flight, as she readies her adamantine arrows.
Vamir and Melzat are ready to go up and over the flames. Vamir thanks the others for the chance to be here, just in case he falls in battle.
Owen uses the wand of fly on everyone, and then casts haste. He mentions that Temorianalis may be on the other side.
Rattlebones plays with the fire a bit then hits it with some tuff-talk. He thanks Armand for the fire protection, and mentions that he will be turning invisible and providing support. He says if needed, he can teleport 4 people besides himself away and gives a code word to be spoken if the need arises.
The Wardens are protected from fire, at least for a bit, and are ready for take off. They cross the gorge without incident, and find themselves in a huge open caravan, with a 100ft ceiling and no visible exits. You see a very large pile of assorted wealth shielded from the heat in an alcove, off in one corner. The room otherwise appears empty.
