DM Dan - Preperations to leave part VII Monday February 10th, 2020 5:55:46 PM
The dolphins follow you for about half an hour before leaving you to your own devices, and the sailors continue with their work, rushing around and keeping busy as you relax and recharge yourselves.
As night begins to fall, and the sun goes down, the ocean gets a bit choppier, not so much that the ship is in any sort of danger, but just enough that the boat begins to gently rock from side to side, almost as if trying to put you to sleep.
As the moon comes up it is reflected brightly on the ocean, and it seems like the whole world is doubled up as the ocean begins to calm down again, the sky is reflected perfectly in the ocean, as if it were one great mirror and not a capricious force of nature.
The bright light from the moon reflected on the ocean gives you plenty of light with which to see, and you can see quite a distance even in the dark, and every now and again, there is a disturbance as some ocean dwelling creature launches out of the ocean and plops back into the calm waters.

Rolth - Highlight to display spoiler: { You spot nothing on your watch, except the pleasant and calming sight of the moon and the stars twinkling up high in the sky. The cool breeze is just bitter enough to keep you awake, but not so bitter that it's uncomfortable. Other than that, it's a warm comfortable night and watch, and you manage to catch yourself before you fall asleep once or twice.}
Falco - Highlight to display spoiler: { The night is quite bright and from the crows nest you can see for miles around, even making out the black shape that is the isles. The cool air has set in now and it's getting a bit cold out, not terribly so, but enough that you keep an extra layer near by so as not to start shivering. But your watch is blessedly, uneventful. }
Tsak - Highlight to display spoiler: {By the time you take watch it's the dead of night and rather cold, you take an extra couple of layers with you, as there is little to protect you from the cold night air and the wind that is blowing. The deckhands are moving around keeping busy, keeping the ship on course for Chessford without too much difficulty, but even they seem relatively subdued and at peace, as if all is well with the world.}
The rest of you get a good nights sleep in your bunks/beds wherever you manage to find to get a few hours kip, and when you wake up to the sun shining brightly all over the boat, which has travelled somewhat, you feel all is right with the world. You feel refreshed and ready for anything.

You awaken to a slightly cooler day, there are clouds in the sky, and the wind is blowing, enough to keep you moving at a good pace towards you destination.
As the sun rises into the sky, you see an odd rock formation, far enough off that it's of no danger, but close enough that you can make it out clearly, it looks like tentacles rising out of the deep, grasping at the sun.
It looks somewhat ominous, but that's probably just superstition. Isn't it?
The day doesn't warm up much, and when the sun is at it's highest point, it begins to rain some, wetting the ship and causing a bit of blustery wind.

The rain gets heavier and heavier, causing even the most sure footed of you to have to be careful lest you slip up. As the day wears on the rain begins to let up, and just as the sun begins the very last part of it's journey down back to the horizon, it breaks through the clouds and begins to warm you again.
Despite the slightly odd rock formation the continuation of your journey continues without anything odd or even so much as a fish or anything along those lines. It still seems quiet, not especially so, but enough to notice.
Just as night falls, you hear the soft hooting of birds that have flown from the mainland, they circle over the boat and make soft noises as they sometimes dive to grab fish that are swimming near the surface. The deckhands watch them and eventually they continue on their way, leaving the Rose all alone as night falls proper.

Ramsay nods.
"I agree, we can always check the rock on the way back! It's not like it's going to go anywhere! The politicking shouldn't take that long, should it?"
Ramsay continues to ensure the ship carries on towards it's intended destination. The thought of the rock is still with you, but even as you think about it the feeling and memory becomes weaker, as if it's slipping out your grasp and you begin to forget even what you were worried about.
As night falls Ramsay approaches the Petals.
"Cap'n we're going to settle in for the night, it's a bit too dangerous here to continue at night time. I suggest you all take this opportunity to get a good night's rest!"

Tsak agrees with Kiwina's assessment and suppresses an eye-roll at Ramsey's assertion on the nature of politics, remembering that he himself was probably just as naive not so long ago. And he hopes the sailor is right about the rock not going anywhere.
After dinner Tsak produces a rum bottle which he stashed whilst shopping for stores and offers everybody a wee dram. Mak gets offered two for all his hard-thinking in getting the Petals organised.

The decision to pass the rock leaves Falco with nothing as a distraction. He considers that maybe he needs to bring some distractions for on the boat in the future. Though lack of options he spends the day climbing up and down, up and down, up and down in the rigging. When it comes time to bed down he eschews his normal bed and simply brings a pillow up on deck to watch the stars until he sleeps or his watch starts, whichever is first.

The night again is cool and the wind picks up a little. As you sleep the deckhands do their best to scurry around you and not cause you to wake up, but part way through the night, one of them drops a bucket, making a loud crash that awakens everyone.
"Sorry! Sorry... slipped out my hand..."
He looks embarrassed enough that there is nothing more said of it, though you know he will probably get a bit of an earful in the morning.
You all fall back in to a peaceful sleep, with the rocking of the boat helping to ensure you get a comfortable and simple nights sleep.
You awaken to a cool sun as it crests over the horizon. Once you are all awake and have eaten, Ramsay comes and speaks with you.
"We are still a few days out, but isn't it nice to have some calm?"

In the morning before meditating Tsak finds some salve to rub on a number of scratches on his leg. The place where Esmerelda landed, claws out, in the middle of the night when the bucket was dropped.
After his meditation he helps with breakfast then climbs to the crows nest to check out the weather out to the horizon. He reports what he sees back to Kiwina.

Kiwina realizes his companions are restless. They probably haven't spent weeks or months at a time at sea. He enjoys it, however. While it's calm, he takes the opportunity to "forage" in his favorite terrain. (Survival = 34, should feed about 16)

Angus wakes and eats the meal offered by Kiwina (he purposely does not ask what it was). After a walk around the deck, he practices tying knots again, figuring it may be a useful skill beyond sailing.

Mak stepped onto the aft deck and drew his rapier. He clumsily waved it about as he went through some type of form as if he were fighting an invisible foe as the black blade swished through the air with a zipping noise. Step, step, slash, lunge, Mak went for a period of time until he brought the weapon back to his waist and caught his breath from the difficult moves he had just performed.

Awake early and immediately board Falco paces the ship for a bit and then gets out his old, little used any more, sketchbook. He tries a few ideas but cannot get what he wants and looks to some of the more seasons sailors with his terrible idea.
"I would love to find a way to practice my smithing while we have these long boring trips. Starting the creating of some nice weapons would take up time and give us something to see in port."

As Kiwina fishes and Rolth paces, as Falco laments the lack of a forge and Mak practices his swordplay and Angus eats and Tsak watches the horizon, the sun beats down upon the ship, warming all of you through. The deckhands mostly strip down to the barest hint to keep cool, and while there is a breeze bringing the smell of salt water to you, it is not terribly cool. In fact, there isn't a cloud in the sky and the sun is hot today.
Several of the crew, when not working are relaxing on the deck, allowing themselves to be warmed by the sun's rays and just enjoying the leisurely pace.

Kiwina has a chat with the idle sailors, explaining that lazing about while underway can only cause trouble. There is always some task that needs to be done. He suggests a few things, sitting and talking with them for a long while, before concluding loudly, "and after that I'm sure you can think of a few things on your own!"
As he walks off, the crew keeps doing just what they were doing -- except that after a few minutes conversation, they start singing, evidence that Kiwina was not really scolding them.

Mak laughed along with the others at the comment about a drunken archer, but sobered somewhat when the heartseed line followed it. With a weak smile and a forced laugh, Mak tried to take the comment as it was meant, but the seriousness of the subject worked at his mind. When the next verse hit, Mak decided to join in on the refrain and put the thoughts out of his mind.
