DM Mitch Thursday April 16th, 2020 2:58:47 PM Bastarge asks if they ever got Murzush’s mom. Myre feels good then wonders if they’ve destabilized things. Zazu approaches the elven warriors and thanks them before telling the rest of the slaves it’s time to go. He looks for his friend and manages to find her. Niall agrees they need to find Murzush’s mother. Lothlo comments that no plan survives contact with the enemy and things could have been much worse. Ash thanks the captain for her help and wonders what to do now.
The group takes stock and finds all their friends. Those they know personally all made it through the battle, though not without injury. It looks like the entirety of the tribe’s warriors died. Two dozen slaves also died, and many more were badly hurt, but it was still an amazing victory with three times as many dead orcs as escaped slaves, probably due to the traps and magic splitting up the orcish assault and the staunt support and guidance of the elves.
The Captain accepts the parties thanks amiably. ”What can I say, we couldn’t stay out of a good fight. I’m shocked you managed to get everyone out.” As she looks over the group she frowns. ”You can all head back to the kingdom for a safe place to stay while things are figured out, though I don’t think anyone is prepared for so many. Usually it’s no more than a dozen refugees at a time and there’s at least 70 of you. There may not be enough supplies on hand.”
Painter grunts. ”Dead orcs. Plenty of supplies.”
”Fair point. Codru says. ”The orcish women are still around, but with the warriors dead we can take at least some of the supplies and goods for our own. Spoils of war and all that, give the orc non-combatants enough supplies to see them off and use the rest to keep us going.”
”Traditionally, among orcs, to the victor goes the spoils.” Murzush adds. ”I expect that the women will give us no trouble with the warrior’s deaths. If we were another tribe they’d be brought into the fold as useful labor. I’m not sure what they’ll expect from us, but they won’t fight us. I’ll go on ahead and find my mother and get a read on things.”
Brother Matthew, looking especially battle worn, looks over at the dead. ”We must see to funeral rights as well. We should honor the sacrifice of those that lost their lives seeing the rest of us to freedom.”
Hilia and Tiana offer no opinion on what to do next, but Lothlo is able to confirm they made it through the fight safely. Hillia obviously partook in the fighting, with light injuries and bloody gear. Tianna looks withdrawn and shellshocked.
Myre (Carl) AC: 16/12/14 HP: 8/8 CMD: 13 Thursday April 16th, 2020 4:44:11 PM
Myre goes to find Ash and gives her a hug. "Your spell saved my life twice, dear. I'll make it a point to return the favor one day." Waddles flies around Ash's head, showing he is thankful as well.
She feels bad for the orc women. Surely Murzush wasn't the only one who felt the way she did. Maybe there would be enough like souls to form their own rogue tribe. Would they engage in slavery? She wasn't 100% Murzush was anti-slavery so much as anti-misogyny. The next few days and weeks would see a lot of changes in this region. It would be interesting to watch.
"I'd bet many of the slaves have homes to return to, cities and towns if not actual houses. We should get everyone settled, then work on getting them home." A little voice inside her tells her the orcs may not have left those villages intact. She ignores it, not wanting to dwell on that. Waddles gives her an askance view, as if sensing her inner thoughts. "Shoo, piggy," she says with a wave. The pig lands on her shoulder and stays put for now.
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 18/14/14, HP: 17/22, CMD: 18 Thursday April 16th, 2020 9:11:43 PM
Upon seeing his friends alive and mostly well Lothlo immediately runs up and gives Hilia and Tiana a big hug.
He turns to Hilia, noticing the blood dripping from her gear. I'm so glad to see you again! I was worried I wouldn't be able to find you when we came back, though this was supposed to be a more stealthy escape. At least we know these orcs won't be kidnapping innocent people ever again.
He then turns his attention to Tianna, who's face still reflects the horror of the battle they lived through. Tianna, are you ok? Our plan was originally more elegant, but I fear that elegance and orcs don't go well together. We'll leave this place shortly and reach the safety of the elves in a few hours. From there I'm sure you can be home in a few days, or if you prefer you can head to my families inn, The Quivering Lyre, I'm sure my mom would be thrilled to see you and here good friend Hilia again.
Zazu (AC17, HP10/10) and Boyo the bunny (Cayzle) Thursday April 16th, 2020 10:35:31 PM
Zazu grins at Náro and gives him a hug. "I was not sure I'd see you again, old friend."
"Come on, your healing skills are needed."
They help administer first aid where it will do some good. Did any of the wolves live? If so, Zazu asks Náro to help with healing checks.

So not only a talking pink pig, but a flying talking pink pig? That thing is full of surprises.
Ash puts her arm around Myre's shoulders "Well... let's hope it doesn't come to that". She looks about and spots Codru "Come now. There is someone I'd like you to meet". She excuses herself from the Captain.
Still smiling, Ash makes her way over to Codru "Well well well. Looks like you made it relatively unscathed" She brushes dirt and dust from his arm "Though still not entirely clean. The offer still stands. I can create a couple of gallons of water over your head"
Bastarge (JeffO) -- AC: 19/15/15 CMD: 16 HP: 21/21 Friday April 17th, 2020 12:17:06 PM

Zazu (AC17, HP10/10) and Boyo the bunny (Cayzle) Friday April 17th, 2020 1:21:37 PM
A thought occurs to Zazu. "Has anyone detected magic on the defeated orcs?"
If not, Zazu will.

*Waddles doesn't speak.
Niall (JonL) HP: 18/24 AC: 17/11/16 Friday April 17th, 2020 5:24:10 PM
Niall moves with Barstage to help find the mother as promised.
DM Mitch d100=26 ; Friday April 17th, 2020 6:55:19 PM Myre thanks Ash again and reflects on the lot in life of the orcish women. Lothlo talks to his two friends about reaching safety and maybe getting them back home. Zazu gets Naro to help with the patching up. None of the wolves survived the battle, fighting to the death like their masters. He also checks for magic items and finds some. Ash takes Myre to meet Codru. Bastarge decides to go with Murzush. Nial goes with Murzush and Bastarge.
Hilia side hugs Tianna. ”I’m glad that it’s all over, but I’m not sure where we’ll go. They’ll have already replaced me at the inn and it’s too dangerous for the two of us to cross the Izan back to Dirt City. Hopefully we can stay a good while with the elves while we figure it out.
Codru greets Myre warmly. He seems to stare slightly, but shakes his head dismissing whatever he was thinking of. ”Tell you what, you clean yourself up that way if you want, I have my own method.” with a few chanted words of a quick spell he’s clean again. ”I’ve picked up a lot of little tricks over the years, that has to be one of my favorites though.”
Zazu is able to find several magic items. The orc chieftains armor is magical - no wonder he was so hard to hit! The shaman’s staff and armor are as well. Among some of the wolf riders he finds a pair of magical daggers and a bow. (There’s also some bracers, a ring, and 10 potions in the shaman’s tent that I’m going to give you now so I don’t forget later)
Murzush seems a bit uncertain at letting two non-orcs approach the women with her but she shrugs and rolls with it. They find the women all together, waiting for the outcome of the battle. There’s some muttering and grumbling among them as the group approaches. One loudly demands in orcish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”So, sided against us Murzush? Come to claim us for the Stonetusks?”
Presumably the Stonetusks are some rival tribe - they’re still convinced by your plan you’re working with other orcs. }

Lothlo continues to discuss next steps with his friends. I'm sure there will be plenty of people trying to figure out that same thing when we get back to the fort. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a whole group heading back that direction. My group will need to figure out where we are going after this as well, perhaps we can escort you if we are heading the same direction.

Niall (JonL) HP: 18/24 AC: 17/11/16 Monday April 20th, 2020 8:34:10 AM
Niall does not speak orc, but does his best to look non-threatening to the group and lets Marzush do the talking to find her mom.
Bastarge (JeffO) -- AC: 19/15/15 CMD: 16 HP: 21/21 d20=2 ; Monday April 20th, 2020 1:22:37 PM
Bastarge hears the tone, but doesn't understand the language. He steps back, trying to look non-threatening, but apparently forgets to put away his dagger.
Zazu encourages the elf soldiers and the former slaves to start back to the fort.
The elf will wait at the ambush point for those who head into the orc camp to get Muzash's mom.
While waiting, Zazu uses detect magic and an elf's special affinity to identify the magic gear. [Spellcraft checks follow, and the CL of the item identified by that roll.]
orc chieftains armor -- Spellcraft 12 fails (16 needed minimum) shaman’s staff -- Spellcraft 13 fails shaman’s armor -- Spellcraft 25 identifies up to CL 10 wolf rider dagger 1 -- Spellcraft 12 fails wolf rider dagger 2 -- Spellcraft 26 identifies up to CL 11 wolf rider bow -- Spellcraft 30 identifies up to CL 15
When the group returns, he also looks over any magic gear they bring back from the shaman’s tent.
bracers -- Spellcraft 18 identifies up to CL 3 ring -- Spellcraft 20 identifies up to CL 5
Myre (Carl) AC: 16/12/14 HP: 8/8 CMD: 13 Monday April 20th, 2020 3:19:01 PM
Myre eyes those bracers Zazu's going over. If they're typical ones that provide protection, they could come in handy for her. She plays it cool, though. She realizes with a start that she's an adventurer who has never, ever looted anything from her enemies.
"That's something adventurers do, right? They loot?" she asks Codru suddenly.
She didn't go off with Murzush, but probably hears the yelling. She doesn't speak orc, though.
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 18/14/14, HP: 17/22, CMD: 18 Monday April 20th, 2020 5:37:51 PM
Lothlo turns to Myre Where I'm from it's part of it... but even if it wasn't, when you make your living by kidnapping innocent people, stealing all they own, torturing them, and forcing them to fight for your amusement, then the general consensus is that looting from them is fine.
Ash Silverkin (RobC) -- AC 16/12/14 -- CMD 12 -- HP 17/17 Tuesday April 21st, 2020 7:32:16 AM "It would be a shame to just leave them there" Ash rationalises.
She does what she can to help Zazu with identifying things.
------------ Cast Detect Magic. Spellcraft DC to ID an Item is 15+Item's CL. Ash will Take10 all checks to hit 20. She also gets +2 on IDing items from the Conjuration School and -5 on items from the Enchantment and Illusion schools.
DM Mitch Tuesday April 21st, 2020 9:26:53 AM Lothlo continues to discuss next steps with his friends. He suggests if groups are heading in the same directions that some can act as escorts. Ash suggests having the captain take the lead while the party brings up the rear so they can wait for Bastarge, Niall and Murzush. Naithi looks for Painter, apparently momentarily forgetting she’s right there and was even the person to suggest they loot the orc camp for supplies. Painter looks at her questioningly. Niall does not speak orc and does his best to look non threatening while Muzrush speaks. Bastarge also tries to look non threatening but forgets to put away his daggers. Alas he too does not understand the orc language. Zazu encourages the elves and slaves to head back to the fort. He uses his elf affinity to try to identify what the items that they found were while he waits. Zazu identifies the shaman’s armor as a +1 chain shirt, one of the daggers as a +1 dagger, the bow as a +1 longbow, the ring as a ring of protection+1 and 6 of the 10 potions as potions of cure moderate wounds prepared at CL 3. Myre eyes the bracers that Zazu is examining. She tries to play things cool realizing she hasn’t looted things before and asks Codru if that is something adventurers do. Lothlo assures Myre that it’s probably fine. Ash helps with identification. She is able to confirm the plate armor as +1, the bracers as bracers of armor +1, and the remaining potions are also healing potions. The staff and dagger are also +1
Despite a few people being eager to leave it doesn’t look like it will be that quick or easy. Captain Silverleaf and Codru suggest everyone stick together. They just escaped slavery, and it’s a 9 hour trip to the fort. If they break up into small groups all trying to find the fort on their own it’d be all too easy for some other tribe or random monster to end the chance of some of them enjoying their newfound freedom. Codru in particular seems determined not to leave anyone behind or send anyone on ahead. ”We’re in this as a group whether we like it or not. If we don’t act as one now then some of us aren’t going to make it to safety.”
Besides, there’s still lots to do. Brother Matthew organizes funerals for the dead and the orc body’s are looted and burned. A good number had masterwork items, and the party is offered whatever they want from the haul since they’re the ones who came back and freed everyone (Everyone can upgrade all gear to masterwork level). Captain Silverleaf has to reclaim all the elven equipment they were lent, and everyone who wants some claims replacement orcish gear.
Painter points out another reason the main group can’t just leave - the party can’t carry an entire orc camp of loot on their own. While the orcs traveled relatively light, there’s still enough stuff to care and feed 200 orcs and 100 slaves - it will take hours just to get it all sorted and packed up for transportation even with the entire group helping. While the slaves could leave the stuff behind, Captain Silverleaf encourages them to claim as much as they can. ”Don’t get me wrong the Emerald Kingdom is usually happy to care for refugees from the Izen… but not so many of you and not with so little warning. Grab every resource you can so you can fill the gaps of what’s readily available.”
There are also a large amount of wounded to care for. Magical healing helped the worst cases and no one else will die, but some are in bad enough shape they aren’t going to be able to march 9 hours to the fort. The orcs had some wagons and mounts that should prove highly useful, but it’s another thing to organize and cuts down on their labor.
Hilia and Cordru also try to recruit the PC’s in yet another job. ”While we’re trying to get organized and ready to do we need to start asking about where everyone’s from.” Hilia points out. Codru continues, ”Some people might be from nearby areas, but others will be like me and thousands of miles from home or no real place to go. We need to figure out who can get home easily, who’ll be stuck for an extended stay due to injury or distance, and who’s planning on trying to make a home in the EK. The more we figure out as a group, the better off we’ll be in the long wrong.”
Meanwhile, at the orc camp, lots of things happen that make the pair with Murzush really wish they had thought to bring someone who could translate orcish for them. (Since neither of you speak orcish, and Murzush is too busy arguing to translate for you, you’re going to have to rely on sense motive to get a general idea of what’s going on. Every check is DC 10.)
Murzush says something dismissive and flippent to the orcish women who accosted her, which seems to startle the whole group. Sense motive - Highlight to display spoiler: {some seem pleasantly surprised, others afraid or angry, most uncertain. Whatever she told them it seems to have shattered their expectations and understanding of the situation.}
A heated debate ensues, with everyone talking to everyone else all at the same time. Murzush tries walk away, presumably, to look for her mom, but everyone seems to have something to say to her and she keeps stopping to talk to someone demanding something from her. Sense Motive Highlight to display spoiler: { At the very least no one seems to be threatening her, though some are mad. Mostly they seem to be asking her questions, which she answers with varying degrees of patience, annoyance, or frustration. She seems to be repeating herself a lot.}
She eventually finds her mom, or at least you think she does. At the very least she finds an older orc woman who she hugs and there’s a brief moment between them before both get roped back into the ongoing argument. It goes on for hours, long enough that the group of slaves finish dealing with the battlefield and show up to start looting the main camp. The orcs completely ignore the pair for the entire duration (well a few yell questions at them but quickly move on when it’s apparent they have no idea what is going on). Sense Motive Highlight to display spoiler: {At the very least some progress seems to have been made. There’s still lots of yelling, but that just seems to be the norm in orcish debates. People have calmed down and seem to be discussing… something in great detail. Two sides seem to have emerged and are going back and forth, one side with Murzush and the other with the angry woman who first accosted her.}
(DM Note: I was supposed to give out 750 exp twice earlier - once for making the plan and again for infiltrating the orc camp successfully. Judging from everyone’s sheets I forgot both times. As such everyone take 3000 exp - you should be third level now.)

Myre questions the wisdom of taking time out here in orc land to ask people where they're from, but she's been wrong before.
"I'll gather the wounded and make sure they're assigned space in a wagon. Wouldn't do to have to unload supplies because we were too hasty loading them up.
...and does anyone mind if I take those bracers? My own spells are very limited. I don't have any spells that protect me." She leaves off the "and I'd rather not have to use one of Ash's spells every day" bit.
Either way, she goes to make stock of how much wagon space there is available. She finds some muscle to help start moving the wounded to a common area where they can be loaded up for the trip.

Zazu is happy to go around to all the freed slaves and write down everybody's name, origin, and whether they have a place to go back to, or will need a place to stay. There's squirrel-hide parchment and ink so that is no problem.
The elf is happy to lend a hand with any other looting and clean-up chores, keeping everybody clean with prestidigitation, too. And with a new spell slot, an Unseen Servant can help out too.
Boyo hops around and tries to help, but mostly he just looks too darn adorable, and distracts people more so. He might raise morale, though.

Lot picks 7,6,2,4,5 (I am prohibited from using the armor in 1&3)
I trust the piles to be equally distributed, especially since I have no idea the value weapons and armor in this location. Still, I don't want people to think me more naive than I am. I pretend to study everything with trained eye and quickly reject piles 1 and 3 knowing as a Druid I cannot use metal armor. The daggers are nice, but I have several. The ring though, pretty and useful....better not say pretty in front of the boys, they might judge me... Wait, got long have I been oggling the pretty ring for... Crap. Well, now the know the little girl like pretty things. If they have a problem with that I'll bite them. I can be pretty and strong.
Painter, how are you holding up? Any victories since I last saw you or injuries on the field just now? What are your plans? I'm sure you have since questions for me. The orcs left my mind addled until that last arena battle and then that young orc girl with the magic helped us escape. Turns out I really do know magic. We came back as quickly as we could.

Ash tries to gather any leader-types from the free people. She's decided that she's not going to think of them as slaves any more. It seems Codru and that Hilia person are a good place to start
"We should also try and work out what skillsets these people have and put those skills to use. It would be good to have any healers travel on, or at least near, the wagons - with trained drivers preferably. The same with any other useful skills out there. I count keeping everyone in good cheer an essential skill" She grins to Codru "Hopes will be high with everyone being free, but uncertainty could set in. Keeping spirits high could be important"
She excuses herself from the pair
Ash has a look over the valuables that were collected and turns to the others. "I have no preference. I'll be happy with whatever is left"
She looks about for an orc dagger to take before trying to have a quiet work with the Captain "Sorry Captain, just wanted to ask you something really quick. Uh, this is a little embarrassing, I know you want everything returned, but, any chance I could keep this dagger as a souvenir? It's just something I found in your armory. I don't believe it has any meaning to anyone. Perhaps I could pay you for it?"

7,1,3 As nice as that bow is, I really don't get the same benefit from using the bow of another craftsman. However, an archer can never go wrong with a few accessories that keep them alive longer. Lothlo collects his spent masterwork arrows to see if Naithi can really repair them, as it will be some time before he can craft a masterwork bow.
(pass all rolls) Lothlo looks over at the commotion with the orcs and tries to figure out what is going on. Had he known this is where he would end up he would have studied a little orcish growing up. Murzush, what is going on? Are you discussing what happens next with he tribe? Whether to join another group or to forge your own path under a new leader? Or am I way off... I do have a tendency to romanticize the future, especially now that I'm no longer a salve.
CDM Jerry [OOC post] Tuesday April 21st, 2020 10:19:04 PM
Mitch you have important email. :)
DM Mitch Wednesday April 22nd, 2020 8:55:37 AM Myre wonders about the wisdom of finding out where people are from while they are in orc lands but decides to stay quiet since she has been wrong before. She busies herself with making sure the wagons have enough space for the wounded and asks for the bracers from the loot.
Zazu goes around to all the slaves and tries to figure out where they came from. He also lends a hand where he can, using prestidigitation and instructing an unseen servant with respect to other chores. Boyo hops around looking cute.
Bastarge does not understand what is going on around him and figures that Murzush found her mom when she hugs the Orc woman before heading back to gather supplies with the rest.
Niall returns with Bastarge once the mother is found. Since there is no evidence the arguing will lead to violence he is satisfied at least for now. He makes sure some gear is set aside for the Orc women too.
Niathi studies the piles of loot pretending to be more knowledgeable of such things than she actually is. She knows she doesn’t want the metal armor as it would interfere with her spells and considers the ring but is concerned that the boys might poke fun at her, only to reason that if they do she can always bite them. She then asks Painter how she is holding up and what her plans are and volunteers that she actually does know spells and that the orc woman helped them escape.
Ash seeks out leader types and suggests they ask after skills people have as well as origin and who has what plans. She also requests a souvenir dagger and starts building her cohort.
Lothlo likes the bow but prefers using his own work (note: all gear includes arrows; grab yourself a quiver of masterwork arrows). He ends up heading over to see what the orcish women are up to.
Painter grunts at Naithis questions. After several moments of thoughtful silence she just says, ”I’m fine. Probably make a home in the woods.”
Codru and Hilia like Ash’s suggestion and they help her with the survey. The results are not promising. Most of the refugees were the lower classes - unskilled labor, homeless, or otherwise on the outskirts of society where they could get easily picked off and sold into slavery by the unscrupulous. There’s about a dozen professionals with useful skills who all managed to keep their skills up at least; the orcs prized skilled labor and slaves who contributed it got treated slightly less badly.
The real problem though is just how diverse the group is. People from just about all over the Wold who got captured and enslaved eventually ended up in the Izen. Of the 75 or so slaves no more from 5 happened to come from the same area, meaning that to send everyone home there would have to be well over 15 different groups going in wildly different directions with no group big enough to really be safe without an escort. Most don’t have anything to return to even if they could somehow safely travel all the way to their place of origin - there are many stories of poverty and hopelessness, or of entire families being sold off and torn apart with relatives either dead or long lost.
Lothlo eventually manages to get one of the orcs attention. He can’t get Murzush, she’s too buried in the argument at the moment, but Iggec, the orc girl he was teaching bowmaking, sees him and walks over. Her eyes are red, she’s clearly been crying, but she’s trying to put on a brave face. ”Murzush said you were going to the Emerald Kingdom and she was going with you. A bunch of the women want to go with her. Others are trying to convince the rest it’s a stupid idea.”

Lothlo runs his fingers through his hair and thinks about what Iggec is telling him. Why would it be a stupid idea? It may not be an easy path, but it's more desirable than her alternative. She was just a few steps above that of a slave. Her talents left her with a target on her back, I can't blame her seeking someplace safer. Do the others have a better option they are trying to convince her of? Or they just don't like the idea of going to the Emerald Kingom?

She finds Ash to float the idea before bringing it up to everyone else...
DM Mitch d10=6 ; d10=5 ; Thursday April 23rd, 2020 11:07:13 AM Bastarge wonders about the various groups and relative lack of skills. He tries to round up people and supplies while he thinks on how a town could be founded with a relative lack of skilled people.
Zazu looks for Bastarge, Myre and Niall to record loot preferences. While he is doing that trusty Boyo fiercely guards the loot piles.
Ash awaits the captain’s response. After that she goes and finds the first man she healed and points out how what he did was brave, that he could have gotten himself killed and how he handled the situation is something to be proud of since others are free thanks to him. She asks him his name.
Niall takes a moment from preparation to look at the piles.
Lothlo thinks about what Iggec is telling him and then asks follow up questions about why some are arguing seeking the Emerald Kingdom is stupid, if the others have better ideas, or do they just not like the idea of the Emerald Kingdom.
Myre wonders if they could make a town and decides to consult Ash.
The captain realizes she didn’t actually answer the question and does so. ”Go ahead, I’m sure the commander won’t mind.”
Ash is able to find the young man she healed, who apparently managed to get injured again in the fighting after the chieftain went down. He looks young and a little rough, brown haired and with off-white skin and brutish features indicating he was a half-orc. He’s being tended by a young halfling woman at the moment who’s fretting over his bandages, adjusting them and applying a poultice she got somewhere. She was probably plump once, but long hardship has thinned her and made her blond hair long and ragged.
When Ash approaches he tries to stand but the woman glares at him and holds him down until he gives in exasperated. ”My name's Mike mam. This is my sister Briana. Briana this is one of the ladies who came back to free us and she healed me in the fight.”
Briana gives Ash a disparaging look. ”Well you should do a better job bandaging him next time.”
Mike facepalms with the arm not being tended. ”No sis, she healed me with magic. The bandages were later.” This makes Briana look up sharply, mouth slightly open in a wondering look. She also accidentally jerks his injured arm, causing him to grunt and making her flush as she hastily returns to her work.
Mike returns to the conversation with Ash. ”As for the fightin’, well I just did my part mam. You’re the brave one, comin back for the rest of us. If me and sis had escaped we would have just run and never thought of taken on the whole tribe for the rest of us, and we’re mighty grateful mam.”
Heal check DC 5 - Highlight to display spoiler: {As far as Ash can see the original bandages were applied just fine and already had a poultice on them - it’s likely Briana is just fussing over them because it makes her feel better.}
Iggec doesn’t look at Lothlo as she replies, staring out over the plains. “That’s what Murzush said. She said it is hard being a female orc in Izen. Most tribes put us barely above the slaves, and she’s going to seek out a better life and we should too. A bunch like the idea, but the others say the elves will just kill us. They hate us and will always hate us and we’ll either end up eaten by forest monsters, killed by the elves, or left to starve. They say we should just find another tribe to join.”
She shudders and hugs herself, moving her thousand yard stare to her feet. ”I don’t know. I don’t know what to do and everyone’s dead and and I’m supposed to be strong but I don’t know how and and and -” she starts crying again but does her best to not make any sounds and keeps her back to the other orcs so they won’t see.
Sense motive check dc 10 Highlight to display spoiler: {Lothlo notices that the majority of the arguing orcs are older, at least in their 30s, while a lot of the children and young adults mostly look shell-shocked and uncertain. There are exceptions a few exceptions of both ages, but not many.}
Meanwhile all the slaves start gathering everything of possible value from the camp. Everything from weapons to animals to wagons and furniture. There is a surprising amount of things, once gathered, and the few tradesmen work hard to make a decent estimate of the value that quickly runs in the thousands, some in loose coins but mostly in good and art objects from the big festival. Some is set aside for the surviving orcs, grudgingly, at the insistence of Brother Mathew and Codru.

Lothlo listens to the story. While it's easy to see why heading into the unknown is scary, it's hard to believe any outcome could be worse than returning to being a glorified slave at the hands of a new master.
I wouldn't be surprised if the areas closest to where the orc slavers were kidnapping people have a certain amount of suspicion and hostility, though in my experience elves are mostly lawful and good hearted, and would me more accepting of females because of their low stations and poor treatment. And the farther away you get the less those prejudices persist.
In any case, I witnessed the way your tribe treated you. Most of the Wold treats people they hate better than your men treated their own. If you like, I can ask Captain Silverleaf about safe places you can make a new home for yourself. They may not fully trust your people, but we were told the orcs occasionally try to leave their tribe, and I'm sure they've heard rumors about where escapees head when they opt for freedom over looking for a new tribe. And my advice is to follow Murzush, she is looking to build a new, safe life and has the wits to find just the place for you.
Ash Silverkin (RobC) -- AC 16/12/14 -- CMD 12 -- HP 17/17 Thursday April 23rd, 2020 8:43:08 PM "A half-orc with a halfling sister? There's something you don't see every day."
"Please, my name is Ash. No need for that ma'am stuff here" She smiles, also noticing how Briana is fussing over her brother "You're right though. I really do need to brush up on my bandaging skills!"
"Do you have homes to return to? If not, we're considering establishing a settlement somewhere. You'd be welcome to come. Perhaps you could even teach some of us the proper way to apply a bandage" She nods in consideration "I'd say there is a lot we learn from one another. Have a think about it"
Ash doesn't want to pressure the pair into a decision. They look quite capable. Mike was able to hold his own in combat for the most part. Briana looks to have some healing skills. They could both be quite helpful. She takes her leave and goes to look for the rest of the party.
She can't help but grin as she watches Codru at work. He certainly wasn't your usual minotaur. It wouldn't be right to send the surviving orcs off with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Taking care of your enemies, even if they wouldn't return the favor, is the mark of the good guys. She might have to spend some time getting to know that Brother Mathew fellow. He seems a good sort.
The first member of the party she encounters is Myre "I think establishing a village is an excellent idea" Ash gives her new besty a pat on the back "We'd need to find somewhere relatively safe though. It sounds like there are other orc tribes out here that might pick us off as an easy target. Some of those orc survivors might hold a grudge too. Perhaps the elves can recommend an area with a little shelter? Let's speak with the others"
Ash tries to gather the party together so they can come up with the next steps together. Lothlo appears to have the same idea of asking the elves for their suggestions on a place to set up a new home.

Zazu thinks that settling some people in a village is likely a good idea.
DM Mitch Friday April 24th, 2020 11:07:58 AM Bastarge looks over the piles of gear and becomes interested in the chain shirt before helping the others gather gear.
Lothlo listens to the story and acknowledges that heading off into the unknown can be scary but suggests that maybe as one gets farther away from Izen the sentiment against orcs fades. He tells her of his own experiences with the elves and suggests that Murzush might have the right idea and that the captain might be able to suggest a place the Orcs could go.
Naithi continues to talk to Painter. Well more talk at, the elf has never been one to chat and replies to almost everything with monosyllables. Still Painter seems to enjoy the mostly one-sided conversation.
Zazu passes out loot.
Mike continues to mam Ash despite her instructions. ”We’re orphans mam. Always been together going wherever we could find or steal food. I imagine wherever you end up we’ll stick around, it’d be as good as any place else mam.”
Briana looks up eagerly when Ash mentions learning from each other. ”Can you team me to heal? I mean, with magic?” she hesitates, running her eyes over Ash. ”You don’t look like a priest, I’d never be able be one, but if there’s a way to heal without having to worship some god…”
When Myre comes over they shoo her off. ”Go, do important things.” Briana tells her. ”We’ll be fine mam.” Mike agrees.
Meanwhile by the orcs, Iggec looks at Lothlo and says, “That’s easy enough for you to say as you are a hu-man. Elves and Orcs do not get along and I doubt the captain would help us.”
She keeps crying for another minute before managing to stop herself. ”I’m sorry, I’m supposed to be strong. The older women say this is nothing new, if our tribe proves weak we serve the strong one who defeated it.”
Someone comes by to tell Lothlo Ash is looking for him. Iggec waves him off. ”Go, you have things to do. We’ll figure it out and Muzush will let you know.” she smiles weakly. ”Don’t leave without us.”
Soon everyone is gathered. The party, plus those they - Painter, Matthew, Codru, Hilia, Tiana, Jigger, and Captain Silverleaf. Having heard it was Ash who sent for them most are looking at her to see what’s up.

She's still smiling as she gets shooed away by the pair.
With the main group - and the party - now assembled Ash looks about and does some quick introductions to ensure everyone knows everyone.
"I think everyone considered a leader by the people is here. So, as to why I've called you...
"I was speaking with Myre earlier and I think she said what we've all been thinking. We should establish a settlement with these people." She tries to gauge initial reactions and then continues
"They seem eager for a new life, and with all they have been through deserve a place to call home. They have a diverse range of skills and what they don't know we work out as we go.
"Hopefully the elves who have already gone out of their way and have done so so much to help everyone here" Ash gestures to Captain Silverleaf and gives a bow of her head "have some ideas on places that would be suitable for a new village. It might even be that the orcs chose a spot for us. Their camp was in a very defensible position after all"
"We have a large number of supplies to help get started, and what we don't have the land may provide"
Ash stops talking and looks to the leaders here
"What does everyone think?"

Iggec was always kind to him, and a good student. Before Lothlo leaves he offers her a few last words.
Perhaps I am seeing the world through a humans eyes. I know how orcs were treated by humans where I grew up, and I know how I saw the orc men treat their women while I was here. As a human I know that the treatment from the orc men was the far worse option for me. But I'm not an orc and not from your culture. Perhaps you prefer the way they treated you to the alternative Muzush is seeking.
And I will say that even if you don't trust the elves or the captain in general, asking them to suggest a land far enough away from them that you could be happy is something that is in their best interest to help with. And more than that, if there is one human you know you can trust, it is me. For the kindness you've shown me during my captivity I owe you that much. Choose to stay if you desire, or if you choose to find a new home I will make sure it is somewhere safe and a place where you will at least be happier than you were in your old station.
Lothlo then leaves to look for Ash.

DM Mitch Saturday April 25th, 2020 5:15:00 PM Bastarge continues to gather up items. Myre wonders why she is being shooed because she has done nothing but important things since she got there and she’s probably due for some unimportant things. She shrugs at waddles and wanders off looking for something to do that’s important. Ash says goodbye to her new friends and then pitches the idea of starting a town. Niall agrees. Lothlo says his final thoughts and goes to join the others. Naithi starts staring at the clouds. Zazu tries to convince the others it’s a good idea.
The group considers. ”Well it’s not like most of the group has anywhere better to go.” Codru says amiably. Hilia adds, From what I hear the various things from the orc camp are worth about 20 grand if we manage to sell most of it. There’s also enough food to keep us for a month or so and tents to hold 50 while we get things set up.”
Jigger grunts. ”It’s a start, but only just. You know how much a one room house costs to build? 1300 gold. There’s what, 70 of us? Hope you like living with 4 strangers. Sure we’ll save on labor if we do it ourselves but we’ll still need tools, material, architects, the kinds of things you only get in civilization not here. We’ll need the EK’s support, I doubt we could manage it on the plain, some bigger orc tribe would come along and wipe us out while we were still building.”
Everyone turns to look at the captain, who hesitates. ”Well we usually offer refugees from the Izen the chance to settle, though usually they find odd jobs in the city, not start their own town. So I guess it depends on the politicians. They’d probably help for at least a little bit but long term you’d have to make yourself self-sufficient. You’d have to sell them on it and I don’t know how they’d take it.”

Zazu, an elf with the Forest Walking feat, has no particular tie to the Emerald Kingdom. "So," to those who are not sure, "we can't stay on the plains, for sure, because orcs. Besides, trees are cool. So if the Emerald Kingdom is being jerky, we go to the border of the Emerald Kingdom, walk a mile over, and make our village outside the Kingdom."
Zazu pauses a moment, then gets a little bit of a funny look. "You guys know the Culverwood is a magic forest, right? That means it's a ... a ... a person. The forest is a person! Sometimes a nice person, sometimes a cranky person. But a powerful person, like, a god. If you are nice to the Culverwood, the Culverwood will take care of you. If anybody is a cleric or a druid or a witch, or is willing to learn how to be, well, having a cleric of the Culverwood would be super cool for the new village in general AND make the village a better place to live in the magical forest."
"Even if we are in the Emerald Kingdom, you know the Kingdom is in the Forest. Really, whether we are in the Kingdom or out, it would be super helpful to have a cleric of the Culverwood living in our new village."

How many times did her Mother tried to convert her to follow Maab?
"We need to find somewhere to establish a settlement, whether that is in the Emerald Kingdom, bordering it, or somewhere entirely else. Wherever we do set up it would be good to have allies - or at least trading partners - to help us get up and running" she looks to the Captain and then to Jigger "We may be able to come to some sort of trade agreement with the politicians. We'd need to buy supplies from somewhere, as well as sell whatever we are able to. That would surely be good for their economy, and we know how politicians love gold"
She looks back to the Captain "These people are going to need somewhere safe to stay while we meet with some Emerald Kingdom officials. Captain, perhaps a temporary arrangement could be made with your Commander? Could these people set up a very temporary camp near the fort while we meet with some Emerald Kingdom Officials?"
Zazu (AC17, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Sunday April 26th, 2020 1:12:38 PM

Like you said, that would be quite useful! Maybe we find a cleric or sage to teach them the knowledge of religion that they would need to do temple services and marriages and all that stuff. Heck, you're super smart! I bet you could teach them some of that stuff too. And about Nature and Local stuff too maybe.}
Zazu also privately has an idea for the smaller group who are the pals who first escaped. "You guys, I lived in the Culverwood my whole life, right? Well, it's a magic forest, like I was saying. It has lots of magic places. Magic circles, magic plants, magic springs, magic animals, you know, MAGIC stuff. Well, I'm thinking, if we just make a regular old farming village, who's going to trade with us for, like, I dunno, wheat and carrots? But let's say we set our people up in a temporary camp, like Ash was saying, with tents and all, and then WE go out and find something magical that would support a village! Like maybe crops watered by a magic spring? Maybe a dryad who loves fruit trees and would appreciate nice jewelry and combs and books and stuff. Or a friendly herd of unicorns or faerie dragons willing to trade? Something that would make us unique AND give us a valuable trade item."
"Say we find an ancient crypt with a magic trap that sprays a pit with acid when you fall in, and it resets after ten minutes. Okay, great trade item, because acid is pricey and we have a free source! Who knows what we might find, but there's a lots of magic in the Culverwood, is all I'm saying, surely enough to support a friendly little village with a nice shrine to the Culverwood and a couple priests who lead packed services on Sundays, is all I'm saying."
"You know, nobody eats acorns because they are bitter, right? But what if we have a couple priests who are adept at casting purify food and drink on acorn flour? If nobody else has thought of that, and it works, well, there's a lot of oak trees in the forest is all."

She's glad her idea to form a town is taking off, and even gladder she doesn't have to be the one to do the hard work on it. Zazu does seem to be coming up with good ideas, though. Oddly specific with the acid thing. She wonders if there's a story there.
Niall (JonL) HP: 18/24 AC: 17/11/16 Sunday April 26th, 2020 8:41:13 PM
Niall isn't much for adding to any plans. As long as the people seem safe and happy wherever they are heading he is fine with that...instead he helps with the manual labor as much as he can so that they can get moving before another tribe shows up.
DM Mitch Monday April 27th, 2020 8:21:49 AM Zazu suggests that if they do form a village they should consider forming one in the Culverwood.
Ash brings up the fact that they’ll need trading partners regardless of if they establish a village inside or outside the Emerald Kingdom. She also suggests that maybe the Commander could find temporary lodging for the caravan while they treat with politicians.
Zazu continues to push for the Culverwood suggesting they could find something magical that could set their village apart when it comes to trade goods.
Naithi suggests that Zazu and Ash are onto something and brings up the fact her and Camalayaas have lived in the forest their whole life while demonstrating some varied skills.
Myre thinks it is odd that Zazu is so gung ho about converting everyone to the worship of the culverwood aside from himself. She is glad the town idea is taking off and glad she doesn’t have to be the one to lead it. She thinks Zazu still has some good ideas and that some of them are oddly specific.
Niall doesn’t offer much to the plan. As long as the people are happy one place is good as another. Instead he continues to busy himself helping out with manual labor.
Most of the group seems a little confused at Zazu’s sudden pitch to convert them into a preisthood they’ve probably never heard of. Hilia is the first to respond. ”Ummm…. It seems unlikely we’d find a magical spring or dryad or whatever that quickly. I mean if you actually knew of such a place maybe, but from what I’ve heard of the place more likely we’d all just get lost and eaten by a owlbear or something. Even if you can find your way around none of the rest of us can.”
Jigger grunts. "If a priest would be so useful you convert. None of us have even been to the place so why would we?"
Codru adds, ”We can keep it on the table as an option, but lets get to the woods first and get the lay of the land first. There’s no point making a decision before we’ve had a chance to explore our options.” No one takes up his suggestion of instant conversion to the faith.
The captain also answers Ashes question. ”The fort is not set up for large numbers of visitors. It’s a military fort, not a relief station. The nearby town of Kovri is where you’ll need to go, they’re set up for refugees with enough rooms set aside for 25 people and a supply of food on hand. Tell you what, I’ll take my squad and we’ll go ahead and go back right after this meeting. We’ll let them know your coming and to get ready. You go to the fort and they’ll send someone along to escort you to the town.”
Murzush shows up to crash the meeting. She greets everyone briefly before saying, ”The orc women want to come with us to the woods. Well, about half of them.”
This gets several raised eyebrows and a few mutterings. Painter has the biggest reaction though. ”No.” she snarls with sudden fury. ”Never.” she glares at the orc as if she had just suggested they eat a baby.
Myre (Carl) AC: 16/12/14 HP: 8/8 CMD: 13 Monday April 27th, 2020 9:38:10 AM
Myre has a moment of introspection.
Her mother's whole family was taken as slaves by orcs when she was young. She barely knew her actual parents and was raised mostly by the tribe's bloodwitches when they realized she had potential. Growing up, mother made it clear she considered those women to be her family, even if they were orcs. There's a lesson to be learned here.
This Painter woman though, that kind hate doesn't just go away. This will be tricky. She starts with the obvious.
"We'd all be slaves still if not for Murzush. Maybe control your venom a bit, dear. She risked her life to get us out, and again to come back and get the rest of you." She leaves out the part about Murzush coming back for her mother.

Zazu offers apologies all around. "I did not mean to proselytize! And I do honor the Culverwood -- and Queen Maab, and King Eberyon! I love Mother Wold, just like Naithi here does. But I only meant it as an option, not telling anyone what to do. Sorry, sometimes my enthusiasm gets the better of me."
Also, Zazu thinks about any place traveled or heard of in the Culverwood that just might be home to a dryad or have a magic spring or other interesting stuff. [OOC: Invites DM to insert adventure hook here, adds a hero point for a +8 on the roll.]

Zazu (AC17, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Monday April 27th, 2020 2:51:01 PM
Zazu speaks in orcish to the orcs joining the group. "You are welcome, but understand that there will be no slaves any more. All are equally free. And we will see you safely settled. You just have to try your best to get along, and have patience for those who you may have treated poorly."
The others are dealing fine with the orc-haters, no need for her to pile on. Zazu just nods along in agreement with Bastarge, Myre and Niall.
Ash Silverkin (RobC) -- AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 13 -- HP 25/25 Monday April 27th, 2020 7:48:03 PM "Uh, hold on a minute there Zazu before you go and speak with the orc women"
Ash has a slightly different take on things. Since the orcs aren't all standing here yet she freely speaks her mind. She looks back to the collective group.
"To be fair, many people here have been mistreated by orcs in that camp. I think what my friends are saying, if I have it right, is that we should judge people on who they are rather than what they are." she tries to explain it gently to Painter before looking back to the group "But we also need to see it from her point of view. Many of these people were slaves for months. Maybe longer! We can't expect them to sit peacefully side-by-side with their tormentors. We'd have fight breaking out all over the place."
She can tell that that line is going to start to rile Murzush up so she continues quickly.
"We cannot forgive all of their actions because of the noble act and sacrifice of just one"
Ash looks around at all the faces here. Painter obviously isn't the only one with concerns. Rightfully so. Just a few hours ago these people were still slaves after all with no hope for the future. Can you really expect them to embrace all of these orcs with open arms because a few people tell them to?
"In the spirit of accepting people for who they are, we need to come to an understanding. May I make a proposal that I hope is agreeable to everyone here?"
"Any of the orc women who showed kindness to these people - or even just let them be - should be allowed to come. We should bear them no ill will. They were as captured as we. However, any who beat, tortured and mistreated any of these people should ONLY be allowed to come IF they wish to make amends. This is about giving them a second chance. They had a hard life too and did what they had to to survive. If they wish to find a way to make it up to those they hurt, then they deserve that chance." Again, she looks to the collective group to judge reactions.
"That all being said, if they cannot accept that and stand by their actions and the way they chose to treat people, then we should consider leaving them here."

I'm not about to judge someone based on what degree of servitude they endured. The laws and customs outside of orc territory are much different, anyone who wants that over joining another slave caravan should be allowed to.

Ooc: I made sing high rolls, and in the other boards the die roller has not been my friend lately. Not tempting fate here
DM Mitch Tuesday April 28th, 2020 11:17:33 AM Myre mulls over what her mother told her about being raised by an Orc tribe’s bloodwitches and the fact she considered them family. She also recognizes Painter’s hatred won’t go away easily. She states that they’d all be slaves if not for Murzush and suggests Painter control her venom as Murzush did come back to get the rest of them, leaving the part about Murzush’s mother out of it.
Zazu offers apologies all around and explains that he honors the Culverwood, Queen Maab and King Eberyon. He explains he meant worshiping the Culverwood as an option not a demand for anyone to convert. Zazu thinks about any cool places he might have heard of in the Culverwood but alas his thoughts turn to a run down yet mundane orchard he’s heard about in the tame lands near the borders of the Culverwood that is owned by a Dwarf that sits on the ruling council of the Emerald Kingdom. Perhaps through treating with her and the rest of the council you could somehow make the parcel of land the orchard resides on your new home. Course rumor says the council has the power to make pretty much any unsettled parcel of land in the Tamed Lands a homestead or encorporated settlement so there is plenty of land to be had in the Emerald Kingdom.
Bastarge stands up in support of Myre and in opposition to Painter, explaining that the orc helped them so they are going to help her.
Niall thinks Zazu is just as crazy optimistic as the rest and says maybe they can find a home in the Culverwood in time but they need to find a way out of tribal territory first. The Paladin joins Myre and Bastarge.
Zazu goes to address the Orc women but before he can Ash stops him. (Clarification; only Murzush came over and she is presumably speaking for the group. You can certainly go address the orcs as a group, but will be stopped from doing so by the NPC’s until the group can reach an agreement)
Ash tries to navigate a middle ground between the 2 groups explaining that there is an interest in judging someone by who they are not just by what they are, however until recently most of the people in the caravan were enslaved by the orc tribe that the orc women belonged to for a long while. She points out that one good act can’t atone for many misdeeds and suggests that any orc who was kind or neutral to the slaves should be free to join but if an orc woman tormented the slaves then she needs to make amends for the mistakes she has made but she is still welcome to settle with them under that condition.
Lothlo wonders if his primary tormenter is among those seeking to journey and ultimately settle them but reasons her temperament is suited only to another orc tribe. He has a more open minded idea about the orc women joining them and suggests that anyone who wants the civility of the non-orc lands over the barrenness and harshness of the tribal lands should be allowed to move.
Naithi stays quiet for now.
The group listens to everyone’s point of view. Codru and Brother Mathew nod slightly, seemingly agreeing with most of the group. Hilia looks thoughtful, but doesn’t seem ready to commit and Tiana looks to her mother to see what she thinks. Jigger looks doubtful.
Painter keeps glaring though. ”She’s fine.” she indicates Murzush, ”She’s proven herself. The rest cannot be trusted. They are as guilty as the men, keeping us under their thumb, watching as we were forced to slaughter each other for their amusement. None of them have done anything to stop it or reduce our suffering. They probably just want to come so they can keep controlling us.”
Naithi notes this is the most she’s ever heard Painter say at once.
Codru has a ready response. ”I’ve been traded from tribe to tribe for a long time and while you’re right that most have done nothing to try to free us I wouldn’t be standing here without the help of many orcish women. They’re second class citizens in their own culture and they don’t have the power to end slave’s suffering, but many a time their small kindnesses have saved my life or given me the hope to struggle on. I think, if we give them the chance, it will work out.”
Jigger has doubts though. ”Look, you’ve all made some good points, but I can’t see this ever working out. Ash is right, there’s way too many hurt feelings and trauma for our group to be able to accept them as a whole. Even if all the orcs who join us have the best intentions they’ve spent all their lives in a culture that scorns other races and teaches them they’re better than us. You can’t change culture and attitudes on a whim, which means that we’ll have a lot of hurt people taking out their pain on the orcs and a lot of orcs treating the rest like slaves even if only by accident. It will end in blood and tear apart our small community, even if everyone means well going into it.”
Brother Matthew has been listening to everyone calmly and decides now to put his two cents in. ”I think we can make it work. It will be a long, tough road, but if we pull it off we can make something great. A place where orcish culture and people live in harmony with the cultures and people of many places throughout the Wold. I’m a Dwarf that grew up among humans in the church of Gargul. I’m a product of multiple groups and cultures that managed to mingle, just like we’re trying to build here. If we let these orcs join us there will be culture clash and there will be conflict, but with the right guidance and enough patience we can work our way through those conflicts to make something new and unique, greater than the sum of its parts.”
Murzush has just one more thing to add. ”Don’t forget the women served as the crafting and professional backbone of the tribe. They’ll bring a lot of skills and knowledge the group will need.”
Captain Silverleaf shrugs. ”It’s up to you, not me.”
It seems like everyone has stated their position on the matter. Most seem to feel accepting the orcs is the right choice, but JIgger, Painter, and Ash raise good points as well. More discussion might be needed and diplomacy checks might help convince those you disagree with of your points so the group can come to an agreement.

Naithi lowest her voice until only Painter can hearThese women have been beaten down for generations. They don't have your strength. This will be hard enough moving forward with their having to overcome thinking of us as slaves or the ones that killed their men, and gods know how we feel about them. Lothlo thinks back at to his time in captivity with the workers. Perhaps I have a different view having been kept with the other tradesmen, but among the women there were only a handful that treated me particularly bad. And I can definitely vouch for how I saw them treated. During the day I worked side by side with them, they were definitely treated closer to my station than that of the men. And honestly, I can't say that humans would have treated me better in the same situation. You live your life following the rule those above you set forth.

First she looks to Painter "Murzush has proven herself because she was given a chance. What we're saying is that we should offer the same chance to the rest of the orc women if they seek it."
"That's what I was meaning, Jigger. Not that we can't accept them as a whole. We should be able to accept any who seek a better life, and who wish to make amends for past misdeeds. It's only those who don't wish to make amends that we should think twice about."
"It won't be easy. Brother Matthew is right. It will be tough, but it's something we can do. It can only be done though if we here all agree on it. The others will be looking to us for guidance."

Zazu is thinking it would be good to know more about nature powers, and resolves to find and read a few religious books back in a place with a library or bookshop.
DM Mitch Wednesday April 29th, 2020 10:32:54 PM Bastarge suggests with the skills the orc women have they could really help the town.
Naithi tells Painter that the orcs weren’t able to free themselves and that they can’t take what happened personally. She also points out just to Painter that the orc women have been beaten for generations and they probably don’t appreciate the group killing their men and the only way she sees to make things work is to form their own tribe. Naithi also questions that if the orcs are willing to work with them as equals what does that say about the noble races. She says that they must be interested but must not assume ill will.
Zazu decides to let the others do the talking while Boyo pokes out of his pocket.
Lothlo speaks as to the conditions the orc women were kept as he had seen first hand how they were treated and suggests humans would have acted the same given the circumstances.
Myre points out that the people weren’t enslaved by choice amd they probably never want to see an orc again but the orc women want to change things for the better so shouldn’t that be rewarded. She hopes no one saw that her comments were directed at waddles.
Ash points out the other women haven’t had a chance to prove themselves to Painter and tells Jigger they can be selective about who they bring along.
Niall says few things worth doing are easy.
Painter and Jigger can see that they’re outnumbered. They concede with varying degrees of grace. Painter scowls, arms crossed and glaring into a space just over Ash’s head. ”Fine.”
Jigger just shrugs. ”If you’re determined then I ain’t gonna stop you. Good luck convincing the rest though. Bet we lose a bunch of people though. They’ll get out as soon as they can.”
After that the meeting sort of breaks up. It’s all well and good the group decided on founding a town and letting the orcs come but now all the refugees need to be talked to and sold on both ideas. Murzush looks about to see who’s going with her to talk to the orcs; there was discussion on trying to vet them all and that will take a while. Any chance you could see if any of them detect as evil? It might help us to convince the other refugees to accommodate them if we can say they aren't evil at heart"
She then sets out to find Mike and Briana and rope them into helping with the task of speaking with other refugees.

She takes Niall aside and asks the paladin if he could tell if any of the orc women are evil at heart and convey what he finds to the rest of the potential villagers to set their minds at ease. She then goes to get Mike and Briana to help in talking to the refugees.
Zazu has the same idea Ash does and also approaches the paladin voicing his agreement with Ash’s suggestion and offering his own services as an Orc translator and provider of a ridiculous cute bunny friend.
Myre does not speak Orc, unlike Zazu; nor does she have a cute bunny friend. She shakes her head at Waddles in mock disappointment before resolving to monitor reactions around the caravan for signs of potential dissent.
Niall does not agree to the suggestion that Zazu and Ash put forward as he reasons that just because someone has evil in their heart that that does not make them worthy of punishment. He will however go with Ash and Zazu and speak to the Orc women using Zazu as a translator.
Ash explains to Niall that he misunderstood her and she does not seek to identify Orcs with evil in their heart to punish them but to ensure they have the guidance they need to stay on the straight and narrow.
Lothlo volunteers that he doesn’t speak Orc and he’s not a particularly skilled Orator. He points out he’s happy to help in any other capacity though.

With the most diplomatic of the party dealing with the orcs that leaves Codru and Brother Matthew to try to talk the rest of the refugees into agreeing with the plan. A lot of people don’t like letting the orcs come at first and there’s some grumbling, but they’re good at convincing people and when they hear Painter and Jigger hated the plan but are willing to go along with it that quiets most of the objections. Not all though, it’s likely about a dozen people will leave the group once the group is in civilization again.
On the making a town front things are much more enthusiastic. A lot of these folks haven’t had a place to call home for a while and the idea of working together to make their own place appeals to them. People are already debating possible names for the town they hope to build.
Between funerals, getting things organized, debates on what to do and who was going along most of the day has passed. Myre (Carl) AC: 16/12/14 HP: 8/8 CMD: 13 Friday May 1st, 2020 3:47:39 PM
"I can see well in dim light," states Myre. "I'll take the darkest shift. Maybe Murzush can stay up with me. Orcs can see well in the dark too, right?" She's pretty sure they can. "I'll ask her later. I'm sure she's busy right now with the other orcs.
The whole situation weighs on Myre. It's true: orcs and humans don't mix well. Her family's history was the exception, and she's positive mom only was able to fit in because she's as fierce as any orc out there. These villagers don't have what she had. Ash seems smart, so she tries to get her alone and out of ear shot to ask her if anyone's ever made it work before.
Naithi (JamesD) AC: 19/14/17 HP: 10/18 , CMD = 16 Friday May 1st, 2020 5:03:06 PM
Naithi recommends that until stronger bonds are Forbes that the orcs and former captives sleep on opposite sides of the camp. (It also prevents one group from sneaking up on the other and gives the watch time to raise an alarm it put up a magical barrier in one group turns on the other, but she doesn't voice this reason.)
I am fine with either shift. Fizzgig car stand watch all night as well. He can sleep in Camalayaas back as we journey home.
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 18/14/14, HP: 17/22, CMD: 18 Friday May 1st, 2020 10:19:37 PM
Lothlo straps on his bow and stretches out his back. First watch works for me, may as well get it out of the way early. Tonight shouldn't be too bad either, these plains don't provide much cover, we'd see any sizable threat long before they closed in on us. Considering the size of the camp we may want to recruit a few others. I have a hunch that with this much mistrust we will have no shortage of extra eyes.
DM Mitch Friday May 1st, 2020 11:07:10 PM Zazu makes several town name suggestions of questionable quality before going on watch with his rabbit.
Ash suggests a watch order.
Bastarge remarks on what a day this was and thinks he could help with town funding.
Myre worries some and offers to take the night watch.
Nial offers to take the early morning watch.
Naithi suggests the two groups not mingle to much just yet. At the moment the two groups don’t seem all that interested in mingling anyways.
Lothlo straps on his bow and stretches out his back. He is fine with taking the first watch and suggests that they should see anything large coming easily enough. He also suggests they recruit more eyes considering the level of mistrust.
The night passes uneventfully. Most everyone is tired and no one feels like starting any fights. The group is large enough that the watch can’t be held by just 1 person so it’s more like everyone in the party taking their turn among several. Murzush and some other orcs volunteer to watch as well as many of the slaves so that there’s enough eyes all night.
In the morning everyone prepares food separately and start the long walk towards the woods. With their group basically doubled by the orcs the food situation is looking a little less rosy than it did yesterday. What was one month’s worth of rations is now closer to 2 weeks.
Once the walk starts the orcs raise a good point; who’s on watch during the march? The other refugees mostly didn’t think of that, but with Murzush and a few others pointing out the risks of traveling in the Izen enough people are convinced to spread out and keep their eyes open to hopefully notice any threats. It’s a long, slow, plodding journey under the hot sun. Their last two trips to the fort were at night, when it was cool, and they were driven by need. Between slow wagons, keeping the group together, and managing the injured you’re only about halfway by your best guess around lunchtime. On the other hand the slower pace means that no one is at risk of tiring themselves out.
Ash Silverkin (RobC) -- AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 13 -- HP 25/25 d20+7=18 ; d20=1 ; Saturday May 2nd, 2020 4:00:33 AM
When Myre comes to her with a question, Ash seems a little lost "Work before? Umm... well... I'm sure someone has made it work before. I mean, you and Murzush seem to be getting along well." she pauses a moment "I must admit, I wasn't entirely sure she could be trusted. Happy to be wrong on that one! Now it seems we may need to rely on her to help keep the peace between the orcs and free people."
Ash spends time during the walk trying to teach her new adepts a few small magical tricks. Very basic, but hopefully useful. She starts with teaching them how to Create Water. Once that has been mastered she will move on to Mending. Those seem to be things that they could put to use. She'll teach them other spells as time allows.
"I don't think we can do much about the pace. These people have already been through a lot, and with lower food supplies now the last thing we want to do is add more pressure. Unless anyone else has any ideas?"
She really isn't too focused on what is going on around her.

DM Mitch d20+10=22 ; Monday May 4th, 2020 9:32:44 PM Ash suggests that someone must have made Orcs and non-Orcs work before then admits she was wrong about Murzush and suggests that Murzush will be useful in keeping the peace. She then spends some time teaching her adepts some cantrips. She is distracted and doesn’t have any idea regarding the slow pace of travel.
Zazu keeps a sharp eye out as they march. He notices something odd about the ground up ahead, like something was burrowing recently. Some sort of shell lays in the shallow holes. A very large shell, at least 3 feet long.
Myre helps keep everyone coordinated.
Nial sticks near the rear and helps out others. Naithi keeps her eyes open for trouble and then instructs Camalayaas to do the same.
The holes with the shells draw some attention and the party gathers. ”Some sort of egg? But it looks like a predator got them.” Codru observes.
Suddenly the grass shakes nearby and there’s a rustling sound. Something is struggling to free itself, buried shallowly under the ground. A multifaceted eye emerges, followed by the rest of a large green locust. Two more emerge nearby and gaze at the party curiously.
Hilia shudders. ”It’s massive.” Tiana is leaning forward with interest. ”I think they’re kind of cute.”
Then they leap 20 feet over the parties head towards the wagons. Another leap puts them right on top of the nearest one. One lands right next to some poor sap who throws himself backwards out of the wagon with a startled yell. More are springing up from all around the caravan, and Jigger yells ”They’re after the food, stop them!”
Everyone starts scrambling and scattering at that as the swarm of hungry newborns attack from all sides.

Zazu (AC18, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Tuesday May 5th, 2020 7:34:25 PM
Zazu casts Silent Image to make a wall of illusionary stone 60 ft long and 10 ft high. (see map) On the side of the wall facing the party, the wall has these words "painted" on it: "THIS IS AN ILLUSION! LOOK THRU! SHOOT THRU!"
Zazu figures that the bugs won't even question a "wall" appearing out of nowhere.
Then the illusionist shouts to everybody, "It's An Illusion! You can see through it if you focus! Or touch it! Shoot through it to hit the bugs!"
[OOC: Attacking when unseen gives a +2 to hit, plus the targets lose their dex bonus, so you can even sneak attack them!]
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 19/15/14, HP: 28/28, CMD: 20 Tuesday May 5th, 2020 8:55:35 PM
Lothlo thinks about the meal Naithi is describing and his mouth starts to water a little. Do you roast them after the parboil? Get a nice smokey flavor from the camp fire?
DM Mitch Tuesday May 5th, 2020 10:40:10 PM Lothlo suggests that Locusts could be good eating with enough hot sauce and suggests they stop the large insects before they eat all the food. He then fires some masterwork arrows at the locusts. His first arrow flies wide, but his second finds its mark, lodging itself firmly in one of the locusts. Some ichor seeps slowly from the wound.
Naithi gives her own thoughts about the proper preparation of these giant locusts as food. She doesn’t see any more emerging or any more holes so it’s probably safe.
(OOC2: yes, Naithi could theoretically make a suit of chitin “hide” armor but she’d need enough dead locusts (there are more than enough living locusts) and she’d have to find an armor smith to make it; also paying them for their labor and waiting the requisite time)
Ash finds her acid attack completely ineffectual. She has heard of these things, giant locusts that swarm onto villages eating everything inside. A single clutch can have a hundred eggs but they’re usually greatly thinned out by predators as seems to be the case here. They’re immune to mental attacks and resistant to acid.
Myre doesn’t even hit her acid ray to see it’s ineffectiveness
Zazu creates the illusion of a 60 feet by 10 feet stone facing the locusts. On the side facing the party there is written, “This is an illusion. Look through. Shoot through.”
Lothlo’s mouth waters as he thinks about roasted parboiled Locusts.
The locusts are very focused on the food, chewing at packs and other things hungrily. Unable to see the archers attacking but getting hurt they grab what they can and jump back behind the wagons before they start chewing voraciously on the bags and bits of food they have.
Zazu’s clever illusion does present a slight problem. Even knowing it’s fake it looks very real and the party will still have to will themselves to disbelieve and see through it (make a will save at +4, I believe the DC is 15).
Oh, and also since his message is only on one side it sounds like there are at least a few people on the other side who now think a powerful wizard is attacking with his army of magical insects and are now panicking. Might want to fix that too (some idiot is screaming “We’re all going to die, run from the death bugs and their sorcerous master!”)

She calls out as loudly as she can - which isn't super loud by anyone's standards "IT'S OK! IT'S JUST US! DO WHAT YOU CAN TO SLOW THE BUGS DOWN!"
Her acid spell was a waste, as was Myre's, and Mike is probably finding out right about now that his sleep spells won't work either.
"Acid and mental attacks will be useless against these things. Bashing them should work just fine though"
Or plain old magic missiles.

DM Mitch Tuesday May 5th, 2020 11:50:37 PM

OOC: It is actually a DC16 will save to see through the wall. Zazu took spell focus recently.
Zazu stops concentrating on his illusion, especially since some of the refugees are confused by it. However, the illusion does not go away immediately! With his illusion school power, it lasts for a round AFTER Zazu stops concentrating.
So Zazu takes his own advice and shoots through the wall at a giant bug. He fires off a ray of frost. It is a ranged touch attack, so it ignores armor and natural armor. The bugs lose their dex bonus, and Zazu gets a +2 when striking from 100% concealment. He's a +6 on the roll and needs something like a 10, he guesses ... Zazu hits with a natural 20! That's a crit threat. He follows up with a 20 to confirm. Only the 1d3 of the attack is doubled, not the sneak attack die. So Zazu inflicts 2d3+1d6 cold damage ... five damage total to a bug, Locust 1.

She tries to alert the others and suggests that Zazu do what he can to slow the bugs down. She decides to cast magic missile at one of the locusts. The missile of force slams into the insect doing some damage.
Naithi gives continued opinion about how to cook locusts until the wall springs up. She then asks for help in aiming since the wall is in her way.
Zazu decides to take his own advice and stops concentrating on the wall. Unfortunately it will persist for a little longer but with his concentration free he can now fire a ray of frost at locust 1. The icy orb slamming into a crack in the shell near the arrow wound.
Myre ignores the illusion and runs after the fleeing bugs. She casts grease as they try to escape. One of the locusts falls, the other is still able to move.
Lothlo echoes Naithi’s opinion concerning illusions offering the comment that Zazu could include arrow slits next time before firing an arrow at the first locust that splits the insect near in two.
Niall asks about the bugs being only able to see the wall.
The locusts unfold wings and flutter them in the air a few times before leaping again and flying through the air back at their attackers now that they can see them. Zazu and Boyo descend upon the nearest insect but sadly both miss their mark.

Ash continues to heal Myre’s wounds, suggesting the half-surface drow should rethink her strategy of acting as a target.
Zazu and Boyo miss on their attacks of opportunity so the bunny returns to the safety of the pocket while the elf casts a ray of frost that also fails to land.
Lothlo remarks he is glad they don’t have these back home and then grazes Locust 2 twice. (OOC: please forgive your humble DMs. We misread your post and thought you were attacking the one that was already injured)
Nial continues to attack the bug landing another solid blow.
Naithi charges after the fleeing bug and tears it apart.
Myre backs up.

Lothlo points out it has a bunch of supplies and they mustn’t let it escape. He fires off another 2 shots. The first grazes the insect while the second one misses the mark.
Ash uses her arcane bond to cast magic missile finishing off Locust 2.
Naithi spurs Camalayaas after the fleeing bug but it is already dead.
Myre checks to make sure she is still intact seeing as how the last bug is already dead.
Niall checks to see if anyone else in the caravan is injured.
Lothlo asks if everyone is okay
It seems like things are quieting down now. The rest of the group has managed to deal with the rest of the swarm; they’re all either dead or fleeing. It takes quite a while to take stock afterwards as there’s a lot of chaos and spilt baggage. It’s hard to tell but it doesn't look like any of the bugs made off with anything or manage to eat much. It’ll take a while to repack everything.
No one was killed but many were injured, either fighting bugs or panicking and hurting themselves like that guy who fell out of the wagon you saw. Most of the healers already used their magic on injured from escaping the orcs so a lot of bandaging needs to be done as well.

Ash looks about for the two most injured people - in the party or otherwise - and uses her last two healing spells on them.
She crosses her arms, sighs, and looks about the area. Injuries because of panic. Those are the sorts of things that could be avoided. The people are just so fearful of things that it might take some time for them to adjust. "Hopefuly they adjust".
Ash steps up on the nearest cart so she can be heard. "It's ok everyone. The threat has gone" she calls out, trying to bring some calm to the area "Could any injured make themselves known so that the healers can get to you?"
Briana is already at work with her non-magical healing skills.
Ash goes to check in on Myre. Her wounds are looking a lot better thanks to Niall. She gives her friend a pat on the back, glad that she is still standing "Well that was exciting!" Ash notices the blood rushing to Myre's face and quickly thinks of something to distract her "Hey. I was thinking. Do any of the orc women have any healing skills? This could be an opportunity for them to help treat some of the other people. Try and get some trust among them. What do you think? Murzush seems to get along well with you and might be ok with it if you asked her"
She wonders whether there are a couple of extra meals here.

Lothlo helps to gather up the pilfered supplies, along with any meat they can salvage from their impromptu hunt.
I agree with Ash, let's not delay too long. We may have fought off the current threat, but the sooner we are out of this things hatching grounds the better. Before we head out, though, let's take a moment to better secure our supplies. That way, on the off chance they make another raid on our food they won't be able to take flight with it.
Lothlo makes sure everything is put back in place in the caravan, and tied down enough to prevent any further raids from being successful.
DM Mitch Wednesday May 13th, 2020 12:49:41 AM Zazu tries to figure out if the giant locusts have a lair or more eggs nearby using Boyo as a blood hound but their combined tracking might just leads them back to the hole that the original insects hatched from and the ruins of the eggs in there.
Myre feels a little embarrassed by how hurt she is and figures she should get bandaged but she isn’t really skilled at bandaging so for now she’ll bleed.
Niall uses his lay on hands ability on those that are more injured including Myre.
Ash uses her last healing spells too. She attempts to calm the villagers and suggest that those with injuries make themselves known to the healers. She asks Myre if she knows if any of the Orc women have healing skills; magical or otherwise and suggests this might be an opportunity for the orcs to gain trust amongst the non orcs. She wonders if the giant locusts could provide a couple of extra meals.
Lothlo helps gather up the pilfered supplies and any meat they can gather from their impromptu hunt. He takes time to help secure the items on the wagons. (OOC: It was asked if chitin could be used as a crafting component for armor that a druid could wear and the answer was yes allowing for time and finding a craftsperson and paying them for their labor a reskinned set of chitin “hide” armor could be made)
Ash finds that there are several orcish women skilled at treating injuries who had been mostly dealing with the orc injured. With some encouragement to both the orc healers and non-orc injured they help treat the rest as well.
Between the fight, the treating of injuries, gathering the scattered supplies, and turning the dead bugs into new supplies (which grosses out some of the group though the orcs seem enthusiastic about the prospect), the group loses an hour or two before they’re back on their way.

The tantalizing aroma of roasting meat and fresh herbs filla the air as I finish roasting the locusts. The process was greatly sped up by the fact that they perfectly for into their burrows making for a far under ground oven once some fuel was placed inside. I crack open a small joint and the succulent smell of a victory dinner fills the air.
These are just about ready. Since the meat is sealed within the exoskeleton it will keep warm and travel well until we are ready to eat. I headed it in such a way as to temper the shell so it can be used to upgrade my armor later, so please don't go smashing it to bits to get at the meat. There is a simple trick to opening the seams that will better preserve it.

There's nothing Ash can do about the texture, appearance or smell of the bugs, but she can cast Prestidigitation to improve the flavor if needed. Still, she's not really keen to taste them herself. She's not THAT hungry yet.
Ash goes around to check that everything has been loaded on to the wagons and ready to go. The group has lost enough time here.

I see you had to crack that joint open to get meat out... but also that you said not to smash the shells. Can you show me the correct way to eat this so that you can still use the shell? Also, any idea how much farther until we reach the road and area that the elves patrol? There may not be enough beds, but I'm looking forward to a good long sleep without worrying about slave drivers kicking me or surprise locus attacks.
Zazu (AC18, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Wednesday May 13th, 2020 9:26:10 PM
Zazu is of mixed emotions. On one hand, bugs, ew. On the other, there were some strange things on his plate growing up, with mom and dad wandering all over the Culverwood.
Boyo nibbles at some bugmeat. "Are bunnies omnivorous?" Zazu asks him.
Zazu looks over the feast Ash has flavored.
"OK, I'll try some bugmeat!" And (if possible) savors it. If it is actually good, maybe we can find more bug eggs. "Maybe we raise or even domesticate these things. Naithi, you're a druid, right? Can you raise these things from eggs and maybe tame them? Meat and bughide armor!"
[OOC: Rear a wild animal is a DC15+HD Handle Animal check. And we can give you lots of Aid Another bonuses, right? I'll put some ranks into Handle Animal, and Boyo will be the sheepdog. We could make our village into a bug ranch and export bug jerky! Might have to do some work on the branding.]
DM Mitch Thursday May 14th, 2020 12:13:43 PM Myre blushes as Niall treats her injuries and snatches and absorbs Waddles back into her body as the alien piggy figure starts orbiting the paladin. She says a silent thank you as Ash whisks her away.
Naithi prepares some locust meat using their lair as an underground oven and soon the aroma of herb scented locust fills the air. She demonstrates to the others how to separate the meat from the shells without damaging it as a crafting component
Ash can’t really do much about the appearance or smell of the bugs but she offers to cast prestidigitation to improve their flavor. She’s not too keen to try the locusts yet and it appears there are others in the caravan that feel the same way so rations from the stores are also being passed around while some of the more adventurous out there are perfectly fine with the locusts. A lot of the orc women seem keen to sample them. Ash makes sure everything is ready to go after a quick meal is had.
Lothlo straps his quiver on his back, anxious to head out again. He asks Naithi to verify the proper way to eat the locusts and then asks if anyone knows how far they are from the area the elves patrol. He’s okay with not having a bed per se as long as he can get a good long rest not worrying about slavers or giant bugs.
Zazu is a little uncertain about the bug meat but decides to give it a try. He considers maybe raising them to sell to people if they’re tasty.
The bugs are…. Interesting. The texture is very strange which makes it hard to judge the taste - some find it interesting, most immediately hate it as being too alien. The orcs seem to like them, but the orcs say they’re a fairly common meal and an acquired taste. As for Zazu’s scheme it would take a long time to get used to before any customers are likely to enjoy them, not to mention the difficulty of finding a breeding pair, handling the massive number of eggs they lay, and controlling them when they can just jump and fly away from any pen you made. Oh and the risks of them eating the entire forest around you when 300 of the things hatched at once.
You can only find one unhatched egg and it’s impossible to tell if it’s just late hatching or if it’s a dud egg.
The party manages to make it to the fort in another several hours. With the bug attack delaying them it’s about dinner time when they arrive. Some elven scouts find them as they approach and lead the rest of the way.
The fort is still the same, squat and stone, but it seems some merchants decided to meet you out here when they heard of your coming. There’s a small market of half a dozen people offering various goods, some seeming to want to help while others want to make a quick buck selling you stuff before you get to Kovri and the rest of the relief effort.
Sigismund Brauer (Tanner) -- HP 35 | AC 18/11/16 | CMD 20 | F+6/R+3/W+0 Thursday May 14th, 2020 1:18:09 PM
The party hears loud, thumping footsteps, the metallic jangle of armor, and enthusiastic whistling approach from the main gate after they enter into the fort. The three sounds combined are more than enough to give you plenty of warning. Into view steps a minotaur male, broad and towering, with short, charcoal gray fur. His eyes are nutmeg brown, with small flecks of orange near the iris. His snout and ears are pale vanilla, and his horns point straight up and darken near the tips. His face looks kind and friendly. He wears thick armor and carries a greathammer -- a sledgehammer modified for war -- over one shoulder.
He perks his head as he sees you, then raises a hand in greeting. "Howdy, y'all!" His voice is booming and cheerful, with a thick provincial accent. "Beautiful day, ain't it? Don't mind me, just passin' through. The road between here and Kovri is pretty clear, by the way. Nothin' but squirrels'n birds. Say... Y'all wouldn't happen to be those refugees lookin' fer a place to settle, wouldja? I've been tryin' to find them in these woods fer nearly a week now and my dogs're barkin'. My name's Sigismund. Zazu (AC18, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Thursday May 14th, 2020 2:01:06 PM
At the encounter site, Zazu decides that bugmeat is tasty. Bundles up the last lone bug egg in warm blankets and asks Naithi if it is dead or maybe just late to hatch.
If it is alive, we'll take it along. It would make a fun pet, at the least.
=====
At the fort, Zazu translates for the orc ladies so that they will not be scared.
When Sigismund arrives, Zazu bows and greets him, introducing everybody. "This is Naithi, a druid; Ash, a mage; Myre, another mage; Niall, a paladin; Lothlo, an archer. I'm Zazu, an arcane trickster, or at least, I will be! And this is Boyo, the Wold's cutest bunnie."

Ash has a look over the egg for Zazu to work out whether it is likely to hatch or to be used for scrambled eggs in the morning.
She then casts an eye over the different stalls to see what's on offer. She doesn't expect there to be any merchants wealthy enough to buy some of the goods the party acquired from the orcs. The elves, on the other hand, might be willing to buy or trade. Magical weapons and armor may be welcome additions. She asks one of the nearby elf guards if they could send a message to the Captain about it.
This minotaur guy seems friendly enough. "Sigmund is it? I'm Ash" the human girl flashes him one of her biggest smiles "So what sorta shop are you looking to open?" The first thing that comes to mind is that he doesn't really look like a baker of any kind. Certainly no signs of flour. She would much rather pastries than any of those bugs. A girl can hope. She looks down at her clothes, borrowed from the fort that took them in, and frowns. They're serviceable, but if we father could see her now. At least her dark skin helps hide the scrapes she still has.
No matter, she decides, and walks up to Sigismund. "Siggy, I am Myre." She pronounces is My-Ree. A small rubber pig pops out of her shoulder and flies around Sigismund's head. Myre sighs. "And this is Waddles. This is his way of saying hi." She expertly snatches the pig from the air and places him on her shoulder. He hovers above it peacefully, his face devoid of any emotion.

Lothlo also introduces himself to the entrepreneur the caravan has been greeted by. He explains a little bit about the caravan situation and asks the minotaur what kind of arrangement he had in mind.

Sigismund is very pleased to meet everyone and explains that he’s a brewer.
Zazu knows nothing about bugs but is happy to learn.
The egg seems to be viable as far as Naithi and Ash can tell. Captain Silverleaf emerges from the fort and looks around. ”I see you all made it. If you need any quick supplies buy them, otherwise we should all be moving out, most of the support network and beds are in Kovri.”
The merchants here mostly seem to be selling food - some guessed that the refugees might be hungry and they could make a fast buck selling it to the desperate. The rest are selling trinkets and baubles mostly. For a real resupply you’ll probably need to hit the village. Captain Silverleaf stands ready to lead the way.

Naithi smiles as the news about the egg is related. We will need to discuss how to train this little one. I'm thinking combat training (I would like it useable as a mount. I couldn't find any rules on if anyone/everyone can use a combat trained mount, but obviously Naithi would be doing this for Zazu. If it cannot be used by anyone other than the trainer we need to get an item to boost it's int to teach it am additional trick, serve.)We also need to teach it to forward or have plenty of food on hand. I suspect this little guy will eat a ton.
What are your thoughts? We could also train him like a guard dog, but when you have an animal that can be used as a flying mount...well, you typically train it to be able to be used as a flying mount.
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 19/15/14, HP: 28/28, CMD: 20 Friday May 15th, 2020 9:21:48 PM
Lothlo walks up and greets the Captain. Ah, Captain Silverleaf, good to see you again. We were a little delayed when some nasty bugs ambushed us and raided our supplies. Sigismund says he road between here and Kovri is pretty clear, is this road patrolled and safe to travel on? I'm sure we can make better time if we know we don't have to constantly scout for danger.
Ash Silverkin (RobC) -- AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 13 -- HP 25/25 Saturday May 16th, 2020 10:06:58 AM
Ash makes her way around the people to make sure all are ready and capable to continue the journey, then approaches the Captain "Let's get these people somewhere safe"
She expects some may choose to stay here or go their own way.
Sigismund Brauer (Tanner) -- HP 35 | AC 18/11/16 | CMD 20 | F+6/R+3/W+0 Saturday May 16th, 2020 8:46:27 PM "It's pretty safe." Sigismund picks up his hammer and joins the party talking with Captain Silverleaf. "Specially with a group this big'n loud. Most forest critters're gonna be scared off, and bandits would think twice about attackin' a group with an armed escort. Anything that ain't scared by our size and weapons... well, not much we can do to prepare for that!" He barks a laugh.
DM Mitch Saturday May 16th, 2020 11:35:20 PM
The party discusses their plans with the egg and ask about the road to Kovri.
Zazu (AC18, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Sunday May 17th, 2020 12:20:44 AM
Zazu says to Siggy, Excuse me Mister Siggy, but did you just come from Kovri? What's it like there? We're bringing a lot of people who are not elves, and you're ... not an elf. Were people nice and welcoming? Or, well, you know how elves, can be. I can say because I am one. You know, stand-offish? A little cold? Looking down their noses like?"
Zazu looks over the refugee caravan and tries to figure out what percent are elves or half-elves.
Myre (Carl) AC: 13/12/11 HP: 21/24 CMD: 14 Sunday May 17th, 2020 8:06:40 PM
Myre's not thrilled at the prospect of one of those bugs joining their travels, but she'll get over it. She keeps an ear open to Siggy's answer to Zazu's question and wonders just how long they'll be travelling.
OOC: Was travel time brought up while I was gone? How long a journey are we starting?
Ash (RobC) -- AC 12/12/10 -- CMD 13 -- HP 25/25 Sunday May 17th, 2020 8:13:17 PM
Should she get a moment, Ash will have a quiet word with the Captain "Please pass our thanks on to the Commander for allowing us to stop here a while. I hope he wasn't too put out by it"
She smiles to the Captain before proceeding "And I hope he didn't give you too much grief for helping us free these people. I know he was pretty set against any involvement and it must have taken some conviction on your part to do it. I hope one day I can find a way to repay you, and that you might count us as allies in the future"
Sigismund Brauer (Tanner) -- HP 35 | AC 18/11/16 | CMD 20 | F+6/R+3/W+0 Sunday May 17th, 2020 10:01:17 PM
Sigismund listens to Zazu's question and sucks air through his teeth. "That's somethin' that's been on my mind, to be honest. When I passed through they were polite enough'n took my coin without any fuss... but I was just passin' through. It's a cinch they're gonna care a sight more about prospective new neighbors. 'Specially when those new neighbors're orcs. I reckon keepin' them out of sight might be a good idea -- least 'til we can set up a new town'n prove that we're good neighbors'n won't burn down their homes and kill 'em. You know... 'cause orcs." He shrugs. "Might as well be careful."
Zazu (AC18, HP18/18) and Boyo the bunny (AC15, HP9/9) (Cayzle) Sunday May 17th, 2020 10:06:03 PM
Zazu shares with Siggy the idea that Freedomvilletown should be away from other towns in the Emerald Kingdom. Maybe right on the border, or even a little outside it.
"Having won their freedom, these people should not have to face a new kind of oppression."
