Did they just let you go?" Vamir smiles as Owen asks about one of his fathers, making the sadness Vamir launches into how he met Gornin, "One evening, just after my 55th birthday, after spending several days in the deepest parts of the forest, and darkest caves harvesting herbs for my second father I returned home to find a group of bandits destroying my home, laughing as they carried out the family belongings, like my mothers cauldron, and my fathers potions. Anger welled up in my throat, and I charged into the clearing, casting spells, and swinging my staff. This caught the bandits offguard and I in his managed to lay out two of the bandits before a falchion swept across my face, knocking me prone, just as the next blow were to descend I heard the roar of a bear, and passed out before the falchion made contact. When I woke up the two bandits he felled were laying in the yard, and a slender male elf, was tending a fire. I was weak and as I began to stand a rough, calloused hand pushed me back to a sitting position,. Gornin explained he was passing through the area when he heard my screams of rage, and he charged only to see a Half-orc about to kill me. Gornin quickly shapechanged into a dire bear and killed the bandits. He helped me bury my parents, and asked me where my people were. My father realizing I was still young offered to allow me to travel with him to his hut in the Culverwood if I wanted. After collecting a few momentomy mother’s cauldron, and his father’s sickle, and leather potion bag I set the house on fire and walked behind Gorin." Vamir takes a deep breath realizing he has been talking non-stop. The witch looks around and see's the clearing. Vamir bows his head respectfully towards the statue,"This is Queen Maab's clearing. Vamir shares his story with his new family, and shows reverence, to his Patron, when entering Maab's Clearing. Everyone is a bit relieved to be on the right path, but are thrown off by the appearance of a third path. though no one should really be surprised, after all this is the Culverwood, adding to travelers frustration is kinda it's thing. Armand wonders if the answer to the riddle is the same as before, or if like the number of paths, that has changed as well. No one else has any insight in the tiles, which Vamir realizes and everyone else remembers, are actually buttons, though Elyngael wonders if Vamir may have any insight since his Patron is the subject of the riddle. a few of our heroes search for tracks, and find plenty, of course they are of the four legged kind, a rabbit, followed closely by a fox, some squirrels, some deer, a wild pig, and even a small bear. It is clear that the only ones who have entered Maab's Clearing for sometime are animals, and pretty harmless ones at that.

Wounded and covered in his family’s blood, I guess I was overlooked and thought to be dead. Several weeks later, I was found by a travelling sorcerer / priest of Eberyon as I was dragging his body along the ground. Taken in by Yaanoosh, he healed me and raised me near a predominantly human village had no further interaction other wemics. At 11 summers my sorcerous abilities let themselves be known. Neshi chuckled I burned down our house when I set my pallet on fire while i was asleep. So from that point onward I worked with his Yanoosh's lab, learning how to control and employ his sorcerous abilities and found out that I enjoyed it and was good at it. Yaanoosh also taught me how to use a sling, and his elven curve blade. When I was 14 Yanoosh disappeared when an elemental summoning went wrong. DM Jeremy Battle Map Monday April 27th, 2020 5:28:12 AM OOC... A knowledge of High Woldian would have helped the first time around, for translating the tiles. I believe Owen knew Woldian at the time, and was able to translate, which is why I skipped having you translate them, and just gave the symbols with their translations up front, but knowing High Woldian wouldn't help with the sequence.
Vamir and Owen's sharing of their pasts stirs something in Neshi when he realizes his and Vamir's are similar, which leads to him sharing his own story. Armand tries a new sequence, and is rewarded by nothing happening. Osul can't remember the original sequence, though he does remember what happened after. He questions why Armand would try something different then before, since Armand's memory is clear on the subject. Elyngael suggests watching and remembering, in case the new sequence didn't work.
Osul makes it clear that Maab is to be honored and respected, but he feels that the Culverwood would be happy if Maab's Clearing ceased to exist, along with her statue. Vamir decides to talk to someone who's been around a while, and finds the oldest tree in the area, which happens to be a giant maple. At first the old maple doesn't respond, but after some coaxing from Vamir the old tree finally says, with a sigh, "And I was having such a good nap too! OK, young one I'm awake, what do you want!" Vamir can tell that the maple isn't happy to be disturbed, but maybe willing to help, and after Vamir asks for the tree's wisdom, the tree settles down a bit. "Learned one, hmmm, I like that, so many of these young trees today have a complete lack of respect for us older, more experienced trees, you young elf know how to show respect at least!" after that Vamir hears what sounds a lot like snoring only to be followed up by a couple of snorts and the tree saying, "Sorry about that, I must have dosed off again. Anyway, I've stood in this spot for multiple centuries, and over the years I have witnessed a lot of things, and a lot of changes, the only thing constant has been that stone tree. It was there when I was but a sapling, and was far from new then, or at least that's what the older trees told me back then. The number of paths have varied over the years. The most I remember seeing is five, and the fewest, none at all. People have come and gone over the years, not a lot, maybe one individual or group of individuals a year max, in fact your friends were the last ones here. the people always try pushing the tiles on the plinth, and sometimes they get it right right away, and other times they walk away in disgust after trying hundreds of sequences. DM Jeremy Battle Map Tuesday April 28th, 2020 5:04:25 AM OOC... That makes a whole lot more since Graham, for some reason I was struggling to understand your previous post, thanks for the clarification!
Vamir shares the tree's words and asks his name and why he laughs. "You truly know how to show respect, young elf", the tree begins, and if a tree could smile Vamir is certain that this tree would be smiling ear to ear, assuming trees had ears of course. "My name is Sugarwood, and when I was a younger maple, my sap was famous through out the Culverwood for the syrup it produced, alas no one has tapped my trunk for many a year, but I still remember those glorious years! I know not why, but when your friend decided to change up the sequence, even though they got it right the first time seemed comical to an old tree".
After hearing Sugarwood's words translated, Elyngael tells her friends that since the riddle and the tiles are the same, they shouldn't allow the number of path's to confuse them. She also asks if Osul plans on traveling through the clearing, or if he has something else in mind, to which, Osul promptly answers he plans on using the clearing. He shares some advice of his own concerning the riddle. Based on the information gleaned from Sugarwood, and Osul and Elyngael's advice, Armand punches in the same sequence used before, and is rewarded with the sound of rustling leaves, as branches and undergrowth move out of the way to reveal the correct path. Maybe it's due to some magical essence, or some other unexplainable reason, but the pathway here is nice and broad, and unlike the pathway to Maab's clearing, not over grown at all, making travel much easier.

With the path before clearly before them, our heroes take their places in the marching order, and then begin to head out, but not before a warning from Armand to stay alert, as he remembers the last time the Wardens came through here, they were attacked shortly after leaving Maab's Clearing. Vamir says his farewells to Sugerwood and as a parting gift, Sugerwood offers some of his sap, if someone has a container to hold it. The sap has a slightly sweet flavor, and anyone tasting it can tell it would make an amazing syrup if boiled down. However, in it's raw form, it seems to have a refreshing essence to it and can remove the fatigued condition. Sugerwood offers enough to make 6 doses. (Sugerwood's Sap has no monetary value) You are pretty certain that if you would have tapped his trunk, the sap would be of equal syrup quality, but probably wouldn't have the fatigue removing quality.
After about an hour of walking down the path, the Wardens come upon a largeish clearing that has what appears to be 5 large red raspberry bushes everyone with a perception check of 30 or higher recognizes that they are no ordinary berry bushes, and Osul recognizes them as Blood Brambles, similar to the ones that were here before, however, these ones seem a bit more forminable. Neshi casts Chain Fire (lighting) and sends the flames ripping through the blood brambles the only one that makes it's save is the orange. he discovers that Osul's and Armand's intel was accurate, as the flames seem to do more damage then anticipated. Armand takes his own advice and casts Flame Strike on the orange and purple brambles the purple fails his save, while the orange makes it. Vamir casts confusion, and ends up messing with the minds of all but the red one which was out of the spells range. the yellow babbles incoherently. The purple attacks the orange, hitting it for 11 damage. The blue attacks the orange, hitting it for 13 damage. The orange attacks the purple hitting it for 4 damage. Elyngael withdraws, as Owen hooks her up with some flaming arrows. Even though the red bramble is able to absorb some of the blow, Atlas lands a solid hit. Once again, Osul fails to overcome the brambles SR, as he ponders natural predators. He realizes that any powerful herbivore, such as a brachiosaurus, or mastadon, would fit the bill, but also realizes a creature that uses fire, such as a fire giant, or fire elemental would also be a good choice.
Only the red bramble can do anything this round. it uses its bramble incursion to swarm around Atlas, which gives the fighter an attack of opportunity. (Trey, please roll for the AoO on your next turn) it then attempts it's swift trip ability and rolls a natural 1, failing to trip the fighter. It lashes out with a vine at Armand, and hits with a confirmed crit for 15 damage.

Vamir attempts a make over on the blue, but it manages to shake it off (rolled a 27).

Neshi casts Black Tentacles, but the tentacles fail to grapple the brambles (CBD 38) He asks if they should just let tiny and the tentacles finish the job, and head out. Armand channels some healing energy. He is all in favor of letting the dino do the heavy lifting, but would rather stay and make sure the deed is done. He's not keen on leaving the trail since the Culverwood isn't very predictable. Though a lover of plants, Vamir votes to finish the job, as he takes to the sky, summoning his spectral hand as he goes. Elyngael correctly remembers that there is a two day march from Maab's clearing to what was Otaktay's fortress, and they are near the end of day one, so resting isn't a problem, though she would like to conserve her ammo.
And the confusion continues! The yellow bramble hits himself for 8 damage. The purple lashes out at the orange, inflicting 10 damage. The blue hits itself for 10 damage. The Orange has a moment of clarity, and moves forward 5 ft (can't make a 5ft step due to the difficult terrain) and lashes out with one of its vines at Tiny hitting for 12 damage

The smoking remains of the blood bramble continues to crackle and pop intermittently as the party prepares to continue on their journey. With sharp ears and keen eyes, the party is confident that no other threats are present.
Currently.
A search of the area reveals the scattered remains of various animals, all in various states of desiccation and decay. The vines wrapped around their carcasses and the thorns pressed into their flesh continue to drain their fluids contentedly, and will likely to do so until death spread from the trunk to the mindless branches.
The party continues onward, down a path that winds and curves around the natural geography of the Culverwood. Here and there the path takes a sharp zig-zag to avoid a large tree, while in other places the path disappears entirely in the tangled web of roots and vines before reappearing a short distance later. The sounds of various animals and insects create a susurrus of life under the shady canopy.
Nearing sundown, the party manages to find a clearing suitable for camp. There is enough fallen deadwood to build a campfire without raising the ire of the woods. The cry of an owl marks the end of the day.

"I am Rhiaowiok, Augur of the Black Father. I am Rhiaowiok, The King That Is To Come. I am Rhiaowiok... and thou art interlopers. I shall ask again, manlings, what doest thou in mine woods? Thou shalt speak."
The voice is smooth and deep, but seems come from out of the air, because nothing resembling a mouth, lips, or a tongue is to be seen in the jumble of body parts.

Saying over and over again, "That thing is going to be trouble for the people of this world and we had a chance to stop it now." He's not completely reasonable in his arguement, not for once thinking that they couldn't defeat it. "I had my lucky cultrops, how could we lose?" He gives a wink and a chuckle at that statement.

Owen looks up at the new moat and parapet. "It's a good thing I've learned Stone Shape since we were here last."
