Neshi sends Spiny 4 a parting gift and he gets out of the dino's way. Spiny 4 saves for half. Vamir attempts to knock the wind out of Snaggletooth, but the dino saves and is only staggered this round. (Wade, please remind me in your post that the spell is still in effect, so I don't forget, thanks.) Osul attempts to dispel some buffs on Spiny 4, but either the spell caster was to powerful, or the awakened dino doesn't have any buffs currently cast on him. Armand tries to knock Snaggletooth down to size, but isn't quite able to do so. (Otakatay was a level 15 druid, so the required DC would be 26) Brawn misses Spiny 4 but Elyngael scores a crit on the big dino. (With manyshot, if one arrow hits, both hit, so if one crits, both crit. I rolled and added the extra damage for you, I rolled 5+6=11) Owen drops the ball, the fireball that is! Spiny 2 and the mummy lord make their saves, but Snaggletooth takes the full blast.
Snaggletooth in his current staggered condition, continues in his enraged state, and chomps down on Spiny 2. Spiny 2 lashes back at Snaggletooth. He misses with both claws, but lands his bite attack. The mummy lord still considers Snaggletooth the greater threat, and so he releases a 2nd breath weapon on the angry dino. Spiny 4, unhappy that his favorite punching bag has moved, and realizing things are decidedly not in his favor, changes tactics, as he lashes out at Brawn with both claws, but attempts to sink his teeth into Armand. The dino lands one of his claw attacks, and Brawn takes 18 damage. He also lands his bite, and Armand takes 22 damage

He looks as Spinosaurus 4 takes on his friends again - he should have known better, but he had to be sure. He casts a spell on it — Baleful Polymorph (SR:31, Fort vs DC28 to negate. If failed, Will vs DC28 to retain its sense of self, etc.) Garden skink - the bat is getting hungry with all this flitting about.
If a meal isn't in the offing, he'll flit over to Brawn, and work out if he can help him.

Osul turns spiny 4 into bat food. The wee lizard tries to get away, only to be swooped down on and eaten by the polymorphed Druid. Neshi drops his last fireball on the remaining combatants, killing the mummy lord outright. Spiny 2 saves for half. Snaggletooth also makes his save and evades. Elyngael and Brawn finish off Spiny 2. Armand creates a 30ft protective barrier. Owen keeps any eye on the action. Vamir continues his suffocation spell, and Snaggletooth instantly can't breath. There is a look of terror in the animal's eyes, as the air leaves his lungs. He tries to roar, in his anger and fear, but of course nothing comes out.
All the combatants are dead except for Snaggletooth, who is struggling to breath, what do our intrepid heroes do now?

Neshi asks what's the proper procedure for keeping the undead dead. Osul ask for a humane end for Snaggletooth, which seems fair considering he's just a mindless beast. Armand reminds Osul that with the death of his master, Snaggletooth isn't going to give up, and answers Neshi's question about the undead. He also reminds everyone about the other baboons, as he heals his friends. Vamir let's everyone know that his spell is either going to put down the beast, or Snaggletooth may continue to be a problem. Elyngael believes putting Snaggletooth down is for the best, and fires two arrows into the beast. Owen goes to check their flank, but trying to peer through 5ft of ice isn't the easiest thing to do. As far as he can tell, the coast is clear for the moment.
And of course, Snaggletooth is able to snap out of Vamir's spell, but the event seems to have taken the rage out of the dino, and he tries to get away from the Wardens, but of course he isn't able to go anywhere, and so he huddles in the corner of the north wall and wall of thorns. He has all the markings of a terrified, and cornered animal, mainly, due to the fact that, he is a terrified and cornered animal. Everyone can make a DC 20 knowledge nature check, except for Osul and Elyngael, for them it is a DC 15 check. 'Osul puts the case forward - Calm Animal, Wild Empathy, and Charm Animal (as a back up) makes this doable. Dig deep to try to dispel the Animal Growth - risks the related Con drop having detrimental effects.

Osul realizes that killing Snaggletooth may not be necessary, and that perhaps he can be released to the wild. He is certain that dinosaurs don't generally dwell in the Culverwood, but recalls that they dwell in the jungles and savannas of Cythonia, among the plateaus, which is often called the thunderlands, because of the great beasts. he casts calm animals on Snaggletooth, and the dino instantly calms down. Elyngael realizes what Osul is trying to do. She readies an arrow just in case, but watches and waits to see what will happen. Armand suggests that someone shut the door. He isn't certian about the whole taming of Snaggletooth thing, but he doesn't interfer, as he casts detect magic on the corpses of Otakatay and Francisco. his magic radar instantly pings, and as he takes his time, he finds a ring and a pair of bracers on Otakatay giving off magical auras. (conjuration on the bracers and abjuration on the ring). On Francisco his radar pings on a pair of bracers and a headband. (conjuration on the bracers, and transmutation on the headband).

Vamir prepares to close the doors, as per Armand's suggestion, of course he waits for Owen to enter the room, as it would be rude to slam the door in his face. He asks Armand if he has found anything of interest. Owen moves away from the door, making sure to stay away from Snaggletooth. Neshi suggest searching the this room as well as the rooms to the right and the left, before heading out.
With Snaggletooth calmed via Osul's spell, he is now in a state of indifference. A DC15 wild empathy check, from either Osul, Elyngael, or both will move him to friendly. Neshi suggested searching the throne room, and the side rooms, but what will be the next step for our intrepid heroes?

Armand then goes to the mummy lord piles and begins scooping their remains into a bag he had ready for this. Someone with some good skills in looking for loot should also look for the more mundane stuff in this room, like on Otakaatay and Francisco, and anywhere else loot is likely to be. Then we need to explore these side rooms."

Osul tries to sense the DM's motives and realizes, that he is motivated by thick cut medium rare rib eye steaks. Never mind, he was referring to Snaggletooth, my bad. Snaggletooth seems very chill at the moment, and Osul is pretty sure his spell worked. The drastic change from terrified, to indifferent is pretty extreme after all. Osul then tries to push his luck, and after some soothing words and body gestures, the over-sized lizard trots over to the Druid and gives him a big, sloppy kiss. Snaggletooth's tongue is almost as big as Osul, and the Druid is licked from top to bottom by the friendly animal. Armand is able to figure out what the ring is, but needs help with the rest. He also scoops up the remains of the mummy lords in preparation for the spells needed to end them permanently, as he asks his friends to check for more loot before heading out of the room. Elyngael let's Osul know she's got his back, and puts in a bid for the ring of protection. Neshi confirms Armand's assessment about the ring of protection, and is able to identify one set of bracers, but isn't certain about the other pair, or the headband. Jerry gives an announcement referring to e-mails, thankfully, you guys are all pretty darn good at replying in a timely fashion. Vamir realizes that the other set of bracers is a set of +5 bracers of armor, and with some help from Armand and Neshi he is able to identify the headband as a +4 headband of mental superiority, that is tuned to diplomacy and linguistics (I allowed Neshi's and Armand's attempts to act as aid another, and since Vamir rolled a 28, two people aiding makes 32, which passes. Also, if someone decides to keep the headband I'll allow them to decide which languages they gain, as they will get one per level)
Vamir and Neshi give the room a more complete search. They find the 3 mummy lord's spears, and realize they are identical, in appearance, to the +1 spear found on the Mummy Lord the Wardens were able to destroy back at the Tree, and surmise that they are the same. With Snaggletooth in a friendly mood, they are able to see that he is wearing Mithril breastplate barding. He is also wearing a stout leather belt, and a necklace, both seem a bit out of place on an animal, and your pretty sure that they aren't there because Otakatay was coo-coo for Coco Puffs.

Neshi wonders if Snaggletooth is too domesticated to be returned to the wild. Osul wishes to let the animal growth spell run it's course and as he tries to tend to the dino's wounds. the dino s happy to comply with the Druid's wishes. Osul doesn't hear anything from the two side rooms, but he can hear the baboons out in the hallway. It sounds like they are just now gathering on the other side of Neshi's ice wall. he even hears what must be the captain bark out a highly muffled order, just barely hearing the words, "Look sharp men, we want to look like we are doing our part when Lord Otakatay finishes of those invaders!" Armand braves any possible traps on the west door, but fortunately there isn't one. He opens the door to a sizable room containing a couple of tables, some chairs, a chest, and a bookcase. On the bookcase, he spies multiple volumes of the same leather bound journaling books found on Francisco, back at the Tree of Parting, and on one of the tables, there is another one. Elyngael offers to help Osul, not certain if they will be able to use any of the stuff due to it's size, but then she remembers that most magical items, with the exception of armor and weapons magically size to fit the user, thus the same ring can be worn by both a storm giant and a pixie. Seeing Armand open the door however, causes her and brawn to run to the clerics side, just in case. Vamir is ready to use magic to enter the room if needed, and maybe do some scouting. Owen is ready to identify the items on Snaggletooth.
As time ticks on, the animal growth spells on Brawn and Snaggletooth wear off, and the two animals revert to their normal large size, which is a good thing if you desire to traverse tha halls again. Osul is able to remove the belt and necklace without any problems, though since no one can use the barding unless it is reforged to fit another large sized creature, which is defiantly an option. he decides to keep it on the dino for now. Owen is easily able to identify the necklace as an Amulet of Mighty Fists with both the frost and shock abilities, and the belt as a +4 Belt of Physical Might (Str and Con) the Mithril barding doesn't ping any magical auras, but a large sized, mithril breastplate for a non-humanoid costs 16,800gp. (200+4000x4)
With the quick scan of the room, it becomes clear that this is Francisco's private chamber, as the journals give it away. do our heroes wish to search the room more thoroughly, do they wish to move on, or do they wish to do something that catches their DM completely unawares, forcing him to scramble to come up with something on the spot, a feat that they excel at.:)

"Well, we could come over there, check the room for traps, both magical and as best as I can for the physical.", responds 'Osul in hushed tones, before pointing to the main door.
He makes his way over (I'm guessing Snaggletooth follows) and (in addition to Vamir going through) casts Detect Magic.

Armand casts Detect Magic and will carefully go over Francisco's room. He takes all the books and such and put them in his bag of holding. He's being extra searchy and seeking out the phylactery, as well as any loot. taking 20 on search, perception is 7, so 27 total.

Neshi wonders if giving the baboons Otakatay's body would cause them to leave. he also considers creating some tripping hazards, even considering using Otakatay. Osul heads over and checks the room for magic, hoping to find some traps, before they find him. However, the only magic ping is found on, or more accurately inside the chest. he does a visual scan for traps and also comes up empty. Armand also casts detect magic, as he grabs the books. besides the journals, there are multiple other books, mostly non-fiction, history stuff, but one title sticks out, "Becoming a Lich for Dummies". As he does a thorough search of the room, he opens the chest and finds a pair of boots that ping conjuration, a set of goggles that ping transmutation, 8 prisms of a dusty rose hue that have a variety of auras, and a garnet pendant with no chain that pings necromancy, a sack of coins, and the black glowing fist sized gem, seen when scrying for Francisco, which pings very strong necromancy. You know right away that this is Francisco's Phylactery! Armand suggests chucking Otakatay's body between the wall of ice and the double doors. and then seeing if Brawn and Snaggletooth could drag a spinosauras in front of the door as a barricade. Vamir agrees with moving Otakatay's body and makes it happen. he also helps search Francisco's chamber. Owen checks the doors on the opposite side of the room. He doesn't hear or see anything out of the ordinary. Elyngael and Brawn try dragging a spinosaurus, but aren't able to get it to move. (they weigh upwards of 25,000lbs) Snaggletooth sees Brawn and Elyngael tugging at the heavy dino, and thinks it's a game, so tries to help, but it still doesn't budge.

Before Vamir chucks the Otakatay's body out the doors, he hears the baboons complaining about not being able to see, and wondering where this fog came from. When he opens the doors, all he sees is a thick fog, and he realizes that time ran out on Neshi's wall of Ice, and that fog will last 10min. He chucks the body out and then re-closes the door. The door does have a large beam that can be slid into slots to seal the door, though it will take two people to lift it. I will assume since Elyngael wasn't able to move the dino, that she would have asked Vamir to assist her in placing the beam, thus sealing the door.
The door is barricaded, the passage is protected by a fog for 10 min, and there's another room to search. What will our intrepid heroes do next?

The goggles are goggles of the night they will allow you good vision at night, while not affecting your regular vision. And hmmm this last one is phylactery that can be added to another necklace or the like that channels positive energy.
I agree we need to destroy that thing, Armand, but do you have any idea how?

OCC.. normally a Phylactery of positive channeling takes the headband slot, however, as per the Woldian house rule, wondrous items can be made slotless (such is the case here) but at twice the cost. A Phylactery of positive channeling adds 2d6 to a Cleric or Paladin’s channels, just in case you were wondering.

Vamir looks over the items, and smiles, "The boots are boots of teleportation, the goggles are goggles of night, the 8 ioun stones are dusty rose prism ioun stones for defense, and the last is a phylactery of positive channeling, designed to attach to ones holy symbol." The witch walks to Elyngael, "I have no way to help move, nor shrink the Spinosaurus. I also do not have a better way to secure the door beyond what we have done. I would suggest we load up what we can, and search the next room. Perhaps with a guard here in case they manage to break through."

Osul wonders whether or not the spells for completely destroying the mummy lords, and the destruction of the phylactery need to happen right away, and even though no one answered, he remembers back at the Tree that they had at least a day or 2 before the mummy lords will rise, and since it was a day or 2 after the event that they scryed and saw the phylactery, he surmises that they may have a day or two there as well. Armand searches his brain for how to destroy the phylactery and remembers that there are a plethora of ways, all of which are dependent on how it was constructed, however, he is pretty certain that if this particular one was thrown into a volcano, or a river of magma, it would be destroyed, though doing so without making a hasty retreat could be fatal, due to the explosion that will follow. Between Armand, Neshi, and Vamir, the items are all identified, and everyone agrees that the phylactery needs to be destroyed. Elyngael asks if anyone could use magic to move the spinosaurus carcass, as she enters and searches the other room. Vamir tells Elyngael that he hasn't the means to move the carcass, and suggests posting a guard and checking out the room. Owen opens the door for a look around.
As Owen opens the door, everyone who was here before recognizes this room as once being the lab that Wiz-Bang used to brew the antidote that saved the Tree, and also the place where Otakatay brewed the poison in the first place. Even though there are still remnants of the lab of old, allowing it to be quickly converted back, the room has been re-purposed, and is now a private living space. This is the room you saw while scrying. There is a table with 4 chairs in the center of the room, which is where you scryed the phylactery, there are two comfortable looking wingback chairs along one wall, and a 10ftx10ft pillow in the corner, which is where you saw Snaggletooth sleeping. There is an open door to the north and you can see another pillow for Snaggletooth, an elaborate bed, and a chest.

Osul confirms that he can't shrink a carcass, as he prepares himself for Snaggletooth's reaction, but he really had nothing to fear. As soon as the door was open, and everyone who was going to enter had done so, he simply trotted into the room and curled up on his pillow. Armand suggests a quick double teleport to and from a volcano or magma river, such as the one they crossed when chasing the dragon. He wants to get it done soon, before Francisco starts regenerating. He suggests clearing out the place and resting here. He casts magic radar, and it leads him to the chest. Close examination of the chest reveals nothing, and detect magic only pings inside the box. As confident as he can be he opens the chest and finds a medium-sized suit of crazy light chain mail that pings transmutation, a rod with a strong aura but no school, and 2 rings, one pinging transmutation and the other conjuration. Owen offers to cast crushing despair when the ice wall drops, but since it already did (Wall of ice has the same duration as animal growth) we'll assume that he is referring to the fog that appears after the spell ends, which lasts 10 min. Neshi suggest teleporting out, suggesting the use of the boots, but says they would probably have to leave Snaggletooth behind. Elyngael offers to cover Owen when the fog dissipates. Vamir does a scan of Otakatay's rooms and discovers the same thing Armand does. The witch also offers his word of recall, which will take him and a few friends back to the Tree.

You guesstimate that the fog will drop in about 5 min. What do our intrepid heroes do next? Otakatay's body will be the first thing the baboons see after the fog lifts, so it's a safe bet that you will know when it happens, even with the doors closed. The door is currently bolted from the inside, and based on your dealings with these foes in the past, it will take them a while to break in. You guesstimate it will take 10-15 min, maybe more.

Armand takes off his boots of striding and springing and puts on the boots of teleportation. "Hey here's some stuff that needs to be identified."
Armand enacts Divine Presence (8th) 30ft aura grants allies Sanctuary spell DC = 10 + 1/2 level + wisdom modifier, and Ward against death (8th) 30ft aura protects against death for (rounds=lv) immune to death effects, energy drain, negative level drain. He teleports to the dragons chamber where they spent several days filleting and deboning the dragon. (teleport 71).
Assuming the chamber is empty and if not he has the advanced Sanctuary up, he then goes over to the magma river and drops in the phylactery. Just before it hits the magma he teleports back to the party. (teleport 32).

Neshi offers teleportation again, but reminds everyone that Snaggletooth would have to be left behind. Osul isn't keen on leaving Snaggletooth behind, and the idea of leaving the awakened baboons here, or leaving the stronghold itself for someone else to use doesn't sit well with the Druid, and he shares his view on the subject. Armand takes matters into his own hands, as he puts on the boots of teleportation, casts a powerful protection spell, then teleports to Fire Mountain, drops off Francisco's Phylactery at the local magma river, and teleports back. Elyngael agrees that leaving the baboons behind is a bad idea, and Brawn takes guard duty. Vamir is caught off guard as Armand teleports away, only to reappear a moment or two later, but is able to identify the loot, and get into position to fire off a spell if and/or when the door is breached. Owen is impressed at how Armand took the initiative.
As Armand is teleporting back he hears a massive explosion, and even feels the heat for a split second before he blinks out of sight, and he knows that that is the end if Francisco Van Studen. A few minutes after Armand's triumphant return, everyone hears a bloodcurdling scream, as the baboons all cry out "MASTER!!!". The Wardens know that the fog has lifted, and Otakatay's body has been found. Moments later snarls of rage can clearly be heard, as the baboons begin attacking the door. After a moment, the attacking stops, and a few moments after that, you hear a massive thud at the door, as the door shakes violently. Clearly the baboons got themselves a battering ram, and they keep swinging it at the door. Thump-thump-thump, The battering ram is relentless in its violent rhythm. The door appears to shake more violently with every blow, until the beam begins to show signs of cracking. Not long after that the beam fails, and the doors fling open, and the Wardens see 6 baboons dropping a battering ram, and hastily drawing their daggers, as they charge forward.

Armand drops the smite on the baboons, and only the purple and yellow save. Elyngael and Brawn give the red a bad day, but the baboon manages to stay on his feet. (added CMD below) Neshi drops a fireball on the baboons. The green and yellow make their save, and evade the flames, while the others take the full blast. Osul brings the lightning but only the blue and purple fail their reflex save, while the rest evade. Vamir makes everyone want to go to bed.
The red takes a 5ft step to attack Brawn, but misses all of his attacks due to the exhaustion and blindness. The green takes a 5 ft step and attacks Vamir. both his daggers swing wide due to his conditions, but some how he managed to land a bite for 4 damage. The orange moves forward and attacks Brawn, but his dagger swings wildly. the purple moves forward and attacks Brawn, hitting the wolf with 4 damage. while the yellow and blue move forward.

Osul brings the shiny once more, blinding 4 of the roguish monkeys. Armand has a growth spurt. Vamir gives Armand's weapon a boost. Elyngael finishes off Mr red and starts working on Mr purple. Brawn brings the hurt to Mr orange, and knocks him on his rear end. (Thanks for the remainder, I forgot to adjust the baboon stats, though the AC is actually 16, not 13. the -6 to dex, creates a -3 penalty, and str doesnt effect AC.) Neshi does what Neshi does, and what Neshi does is brings the heat. None of the baboons evade.
Mr green takes a 5ft step and then attacks Vamir, but misses with all of his attacks. Mr orange stands up, and attacks Brawn. Mr orange is able to stand up without provoking an AOO thanks to the "Stand Up" rogue trick, however, the monkey's blade misses the Wolf. Mr Purple attacks Brawn, and though both his daggers miss, he manages to land a bite attack, inflicting 4 damage. Mr yellow moves forward so that he is flanking with Mr green. He attacks Vamir, but his blade comes no where close to it's target. Mr blue moves into a flanking position with Mr yellow, and attacks Brawn, although he misses the large canine.

Osul tries to brighten up green, yellow, and blues day, with a ray of sunshine, blinding the beasts. Neshi offers blue his own rays, though his are more burny, less shiny. Elyngael lets fly and Mr blue is on the ground looking more like a pin cushion then an awakened baboon. Brawn makes Mr orange suffer for not staying down. Vamir makes Mr purple stinky, and unable to move. Owen tries to cause a little depression. Mr orange saves, but Mr purple and Mr yellow are crushed with sadness.Armand brings the pain to Mr yellow.
Mr green will make a 5ft step and attack Owen, but the blinded and exhausted monkey can't land a hit. Mr orange moves into a flanking position and attacks Owen, somehow managing to hit the wizard for 21 damage. Mr purple isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and yellow lashes out at Brawn, somehow managing to hit with one of his daggers, for a massive 1 damage.

Osul begins summoning a new friend. Armand is learning the joys of melee combat, as he skewers Mr orange, ending him. Neshi fires off another round of scorching rays, leaving Mr purple clinging to life. Vamir takes up stone sculpting, creating a perfect statue of Mr green, oh wait that is Mr green. Owen wisely withdraws. Elyngael and Brawn put the hurt on Mr yellow, with Brawn causing him to do a face plant.
The two remaining baboons realize that they won't be able to avenge their master. Blinded, exhausted, and under the effect of Owen's "Crushing Despair", not to mention falling flat on his face, Mr Yellow has had enough, and he drops his daggers, throwing his hands in the air. Mr Purple is paralyzed, otherwise, you're pretty sure he would be doing the same. "Mercy!" Mr Yellow calls out, and you can see by the look in Mr Purple's eyes that he is relieved. "You've Killed our master, our friends, and have hurt us beyond what a normal individual can bear. We surrender!", Mr Yellow says as he slowly rises to his feet, keeping his hands above his head.

As a show of faith, and he dismisses Bay-Yon - otherwise there would be no mercy - no way to prevent them dispatching the remaining baboons.
'Osul is very concerned about why the pleas for mercy happened now. He looks to see what they may have seen, or taken direction from. {Perception:46, Sense Motive:14} For example, have they just seen Snaggletooth, and be expecting a positive response?
He is happy to let others counter the accusations while he investigates (and still has two sunbeams up his sleeve).

Osul dismisses his two headed buddy. He questions the timing of the surrender, though he is certain it has nothing to do with Snaggletooth making an appearance, as the dino is not in the room, or in a place where he can be seen. He is pretty certain that they are sincere, and that they just don't want to die. Neshi suggests letting Snaggletooth decide. Vamir can empathize with the baboons. Armand questions the baboons integrity, and whether they should be shown mercy. He asks his friends if maybe a geas might be appropriate. Elyngael would probably rather just dispatch them, but is fine with whatever fate is decided. Owen likes the Armand's geas idea.
As he feels his integrity being questioned, Mr Yellow bristles a bit, but keeps his composer. In his defense he says:
My friends and I have been living a pretty darn good life here, after Lord Otakatay gave us our sentience. Lord Otakatay took good care of us, making sure we had everything we needed. Food, shelter, whatever, he provided it. His only request was our loyalty, and why wouldn't we give it to such a lord? Lord Otakatay truly cared for us awakened animals, and as a result we cared for him, as is only right. We awakened animals grew to see each other as family, and Lord Otakatay as our father. So when you attacked our home, what else would we do? We had no choice but to defend it! When you killed our brothers and sisters, and our lord, we were enraged, and needed to avenge their deaths. How could we not? Now all Bizang and I have left is each other, so I ask that you spare us, and let us go and mourn our losses in peace.

The first time he did it we fortunately did not loose any innocent lives. And when we came to question him about it all he said was he attacked because we were humans and that was good enough a reason. He fled his fortress leaving it's defense to other awakened creatures. Then when we left he again recruited someone, in this case the lich Francisco, to attack our home. This time many lives were lost, women, children, whole families. So you can understand why we didn't just knock on the door and ask for an interview." Armand pauses to collect himself.
"I know you are hurting and blinded right now but rest assured I can cure you of all that ails you. However, as Neshi has said, I'm not yet inclined to do so. You, as in those that your master awakened, do not have a good track record with us."
Armand turns to the group, "In addition to possibly putting a geas on them, there is that monastery where we left the duergar. Perhaps they could be taken there?"

"You were willingly and unquestioningly just following orders ... from the alpha male - just as if you hadn't been awakened?! You were all granted intelligence -- I assume that if we keep looking hard enough we'll find it all in jars - in pristine condition!"
"Rights and responsibilties. Taking the benefits means taking the consequences! Otakatay knew that, but I suspect he never told you - just expected you to work it out for yourself."
Then something he said catches up with him. Aside from the summoned undead valyries, have they met a single female - combatant or otherwise - since arriving? A simian utopia would have seen several offspring in a year. Maybe Otakatay didn't awaken any females? Maybe he did, and being both intelligent and demonstrating common sense, they left long ago? What would they have done in the wild? {Knowledge(Nature): 47}

Ideas are floated around as to what to do with the 2 remaining baboons. Armand, Neshi, and Osul each share things from the Warden's point of view. Neshi doesn't want to steal their freedom, but sees no choice, at least on a limited bases, Armand wants to send them to the monastery to work, and Osul is trying to understand them, and for them to understand him. He does remember seeing 2 or 3 females in the first battle. (I never bothered mentioning sex, as normally it doesn't matter, but you can assume some of the fallen baboons and probably the dinosaurs were female) Elyngeal feels they should spend their days in penance and service. Vamir volunteers to place the geas, and wonder if the stronghold can be destroyed, which of course is possible, multiple spells have the means to destroy buildings. he chastises the baboons. Owen is all for the geas, but sees no reason for them to be at the monastery, and suggests freeing them after geaing them.
The paralyses wears off of Mr. Purple, who Yellow has identified as Bizang. The heavily wounded Baboon drops his weapons turns to Yellow and says, "They don't get it Willarn, they only see us as monsters, they will never understand that we are free baboons who served a benevolent lord of our own free will." "I understand that brother", Willarn says, "They will never see things from our side, apparently they have reason to have bad blood with lord Otakatay, and in their eyes, we are guilty of the same crimes, though we only fought to protect our home, and a lord who treated us well, and had nothing to do with what ever happened before." Turning to the Wardens, Willarn says, "Lord Otakatay gave me my freedom, when he gave me sentience, and I would rather die than have that taken away. Know this, you may as well execute me now for whatever crimes you feel I've committed, for if you choose to enslave my mind, or body, I will end my life at the soonest opportunity, as I would rather perish than lose what I hold most dear, my freedom!" Bizang puts his hand on Wiilarn's shoulder, and faces the Wardens with the same measure of determination.
'Osul is having the greatest difficulty understanding how he is being played. He feels it, but he cannot see it - much like their opponents current situation. Even that is cloaked in ambivalence.
*They don't get it*, he thinks to himself. *Awaken doesn't give you freedom - it enslaves you, making you friendly and helpful to the one who did this to you. And you don't awaken with an adult mind just because you inhabit an adult body. But, if you are happy and helpful, and that gives you meaning and fulfilment, then you don't miss having to think for yourself - particularly if you've never really been burdened with it previously. The only free baboons are not Awakened.*
*Technically these aren't baboons anymore, and a spell that affects only animals won't touch them.*

Armand pinches the bridge of his nose and mutters, "It's not a tumor."
Then he addresses the still blind baboons, while gathering up their weapons and moving them a safe distance off. "Look I think we have a failure to communicate. You're not really listening to what we've been stating and we're not really agreeing with what you've been stating. So maybe we just need to start over."
Armand makes sure the others have helped move the baboon's weapons away and makes motions to keep an eye open but not really be threatening with weapons. He will then cast Heal on each baboon. Both recieve 130 hp healing (unless you want to make that 140 since we leveled up. This should not affect Spaz's gift because the spell max heals 10 hp/caster level). Also the spell removes, ability damage, blindness, confusion, dazed, dazzled, deafened, diseased, exhausted, fatigued, feebleminded, insanity, nauseated, poisoned, sickened and stunned conditions.
He then says, "Hello, we are the Wardens of the Tree of Parting. We came here to seek justice for those slain and to restore order by removing the abominations to Gargul, which is fancy talk for making the undead dead." He holds out his hand in a hand shaking gesture.

He was never interested in their freedom". She looks at the baboons," You're lucky to not be among the dead already." Elyngael paces around and looks at Neshi,"The dinosaurs are all inside, and if we don't get rid of their carcasses soon, they will begin to stink!"

Osul ponders the finer points of freedom and the Awaken spell, at first he doesn't see a connection, but then he remembers, that only the most recent awakened creature is obligated to do as the spell caster says. He recognizes the fact that these baboons technically aren't baboons as they are no longer animals but magical beasts. Even though he feels he is being played, he sees sincerity in the eyes of Bizang and Willarn. He doesn't think they are suicidal, but that doesn't mean that they aren't serious about freedom, and being willing to die for it. The whole situation is giving Armand a headache, so he tries another approach. He heals them and removes their blindness, and then introduces himself, offering the awakened baboons a handshake. (Feel free to use level 14 spell casting, and you are right, Spaz's Gift doesn't come into play here, so you still have 2 more maximized healings) Vamir follows Armand's lead, but asks the intentions of the baboons. Neshi waits to see how things pan out with Armand and Vamir, but asks about the dinos outside. Owen also lets Armand and Vamir do the talking. Elyngael, isn't convinced,. She is certain that Otakatay was using the awakened animals, and that Bizang and Willarn are lucky to be alive. She reminds Neshi that the dino's are dead, and in the same room they are standing in.
Willarn and Bizang are about to except Armand's handshake, but when Elyngael bats Armand's hand away, there is clear frustration in their eyes, as they glare at the elven archer. They are able to suppress their emotions though, and when Vamir asks their intentions, Willard answers, "We only wish to live lives free!" Bizang adds, "I don't know what the future holds for my brother and I, but whatever it is, we will chose it freely. We have no desire to harm those who have no desire to harm us, but are willing to fight for what is ours, and to protect ourselves, and those we care about, as any free person would. In answer to the she elf's words, I will say this: What you say may or may not be true, as only Otakatay knew Otakatay's mind, but he treated each of us with respect, and provided for our needs as a benevolent lord. Lord Otakatay kept no secret about his disdain for humanity, but we aren't part of humanity, and never did he require us to share his views, he only said, "When you meet them you'll see for yourself how cruel they are!" You have so far spared our lives, healed some of our wounds, and removed our blindness, those are not acts of cruelty, but kindness. Does all of humanity treat those who were their enemies with such kindness? If so then Otakatay's disdain was unwarranted."

Quickly replying to Elyngael, "Didn't we leave Four Spinosaurs out front before we came in?" Then Neshi, shakes his head as the Baboons speak, and then replies.
"No unfortunately there are humans who too fall prey to the lure of evil and power for power's sake. Those humans, or whatever race, can be cruel and vicious. However for the most part, most humanoids are kind and just want to go about living their lives."

'Osul comes to a realisation that the sharing of which would only pour oil on the fire. One of the awakened baboons had said, "Look sharp men, we want to look like we are doing our part when Lord Otakatay finishes of those invaders!". He does not think that it bodes well for their future that they were willing to act a lie to their lord, that they respected sooo much.
"I think they were the same four spinosauruses... [/i]and they taste delicious[/i].", adds 'Osul.
"I suggest that you don't go looking for another (benevalent) lord, but do go and make a good life for yourselves. Find honest, paying work you can be proud of. For your best chance, please do this far away from The Wood and The Tree - somewhere the reputation of others hasn't gone before you."

Armand nods, "Forgive the interruption. Well we all have good days and bad days as well." He motions to Elyngeal. "I think we are done here, but we are not sure how the Culverwood is going to deal with this place. As you know the wood is sentient. What are your plans?"
He turns to Neshi, "Remember, they tromped into the castle when the earth we were spotted flying over. There are 3 spinasaurus corpses here, one was polymorphed into a snake and disposed of." Armand points to the rather large corpses in the room.
He turns back to the baboons. "Oh, by the way, would you have any idea of what to do with the t-rex pet in the other room?"

Neshi is still confused about the spinosaurases, but Osul and Armand remind him that after being spotted flying in, the entered the stronghold. Bizang tells the liontaur that to the best of his knowledge, Finlar, Greton, Drecon, and Valort, were the only spinosaurases Otakatay awakened, and all but Valort are here in the room. Neshi hates being the bearer of bad news, but tells the truth about humanity. Osul gives Bizang and Willarn some sound advice. Armand wonders if they should plant the seed, and asks Elyngael if she is ready to leave, as he wonders what Culverwood will do with the now vacant stronghold. He asks Bizang and Willarn what their plans are, and if they have any ideas as to what to do about Snaggletooth. Vamir asks to take one of the two large chests found (the one in Francisco's room was fancier) and offers to recall a few to the Tree, if teleportation is to be used. Elyngael is ready to go home, but volunteers to look for a prime spot to plant the seed before they leave. Owen is ready to help teleport everyone home.
Bizang and Willarn thank Neshi for his honest answer, though you can see that their continuance has dropped a little. Its as if they were truly hoping all humanity was like the Wardens. They do take heart when they learn that most of humanity just wants to live their lives in peace. They thank Osul for his advice, and when asked what their plans are, they look at each other for a moment, as if this was something they hadn't thought about. Finally Willarn says, "Otakatay found us in the jungles of Cthonia, and besides here, that is the only home we have ever known. It seems logical to return to our roots, if we are to start over. Maybe we will be able to find a kind Druid in the future who would be willing to awaken a few more baboons, and with a few females, we can start a small colony, and live a life of freedom. We will take Snaggletooth with us, as he is from Cthonia as well, and we'll take care of him, he really a sweet animal, under normal circumstances, but I assume you've already discovered that."
As Elyngael searches for a place to plant the seed, everyone exits the stronghold, waiting in the front clearing. As you wait, something spectacular happens. The forest comes to life, and begins encroaching on the walls of the stronghold. You watch as tree roots penetrate the smallest cracks and pores of the outer wall, and in less than a minute, the wall is not but a pile of rubble. With the protective wall gone, the trees soon surround the fortress itself, and in minutes all that's left are trees rooted among a pile of rocks, only leaving the small clearing the Wardens and Baboons are standing in. Bizang speaks up, "Otakatay worshiped the Culverwood, it looks like after his death, the forest felt there was no more need for this place,"
Elyngael returns a bit later with a confused look on her face. She tells the others that she heard a voice in her head saying, "Deeproot's spawn is destined to be planted elsewhere!"

'Osul bids Snaggletooth, Bizang and Willarn with a smile - though he was looking forward to the trip himself, this works out for the best.
He watches as The Wood tears and wears the wall and fortress to rubble - the things you see when you are finally convinced that all this talk of 'a place of power' is nonsense. It had become what Otakatay wanted of it, and now it has become exactly what he wanted of it. That thought brings a broader smile.
He takes a minute or three to try to gauge if this could be (according to the painting they got from the satyr(?)) where Deeproot departed the moot and The Wood.
"That sounds about right, Elyngael.", he says when she returns, nodding in agreement.
"If we have the capacity to all go back to The Tree? Sounds great."

Before they exit the building Armand makes sure the baboons take their weapons and get plenty of food from the pantry they ran across during their entry.
Standing outside "Well Bizang and Willarn I'm not sure how far off Cthonia is but travel safe. I wish there was some way we could help you on your way more."
Armand will channel to heal everyone, as I think Owen and Brawn are still down and so are Bizang and Willarn. (7d6) = 42 hitpoints (maxed because of Spaz's gift)
Armand looks around. "That is a very enima....enimat....that's a very strange Elyngael. But I guess the Culverwood has chosen you to be the recipient of the information, at least I hope it's the Culverwood and not that weird creature we met. But of course it would have to be the Culverwood, because it called the Tree Deeproot...is that really the Tree's name?"

Looking over at the party the young elf smiles, "last one to the tree buys the first round!" With that the witch waves, and casts word of recall.

Osul tries to determine if this is where Deeproot left the moot,as in the painting, but it's hard to say for sure. the one thing he is able to determine is these are just normal trees, not ents, and the sudden activity of the trees is the Culverwood reclaiming itself. Neshi asks if Owen can take Elyngael and Brawn home, and he'll take the rest. Armand gets provisions, for Bizang and Willarn's journey. He also re-arms them and gives them and his friends some more healing. Armand comes to the conclusion that the Culverwood spoke to Elyngael, and wonders if Deeproot is really the name of the Tree of Parting. Owen wonders where the seed should be planted, as he watches the fortress crumble with joy in his heart. Vamir offers a friendly challenge then magics himself home, with Francisco's chest in hand.
Everyone bids farewell to Snaggletooth, Bizang, and Willarn, with Snaggletooth saying good-bye to everyone with a big slobbering kiss. Everyone revels in the power of the Culverwood, even though Bizang and Willarn both have mixed feelings as what had been their home crumbles to rubble. They seem excited for their new adventure though, as the trio heads into the forest.
With the words of the forest, as spoken through Elyngael, still in their minds, the Wardens teleport home. Upon arrival, they can see that the good people of the Tree have been busy repairing the damage that Francisco's attack had caused, and for the most part life was returning to normal. In spite of the industry, there are signs of grieving everywhere, even those who didn't lose anyone are still trying to wrap there heads around what and whys of the event. The people are glad that the Warden's have taken care of the threat to their home, but obviously it is going to take some time for the wounds to heal completely, leaving a bittersweet return to be certain.
As the Wardens have a chance to take a breather, they decide to thumb through Francisco's journals, that Armand made sure to take with him. Scanning of Francisco’s journals reveals a fairly tragic life. His parents were killed at an early age, and he was raised by an abusive uncle.. He began studying both the divine and the arcane as a way to obtain power, originally to make his uncle pay for his harsh treatment, but eventually to retaliate against the world for what he felt was unfair treatment. He was bullied by his peers, which only drove him deeper away from society. After gaining some skill as a Mystic Theurge, Francisco hired himself out to a lord due to a need for income, but when the lord discovered that the Mystic Theurge was practicing necromancy, he was beaten and exiled from his kingdom. Francisco continued to turn his anger and frustration into his studies. While wandering about, he was captured by slavers who forced him to fight in a traveling gladiatorial arena, where he continued to grow in power. Due to his growing hatred of humanity, he kept to himself, and found joy in destroying his rivals in the arena, where he gained a reputation of showing no mercy. Then one day a chimpanzee was tossed in his holding cage. Prior to that he was being held separately because of his no mercy approach in the arena, the slavers were afraid the other gladiators would band together and murder their biggest money maker. Francisco was shocked when the chimp spoke to him in common, and began trying to cast Druid spells on the cage in an attempt to break free. After telling the chimp he was wasting his time due to the fact that they were in an antimagic field, the chimp settled down and the two began talking. It became clear to both the chimp, who introduced himself as Otakatay and Francisco that the two held a common hatred, that being humanity, and the two became close friends, each with the same two desires, escape this hell they are currently in, and destroy humanity. Finally they got their chance, as Otakatay was able to steal the jailer's keys. They waited until the middle of the night, when they knew everyone would be asleep, then made their escape. They exited their cage, then went on a rampage of death, killing everyone, including the other slaves. Francisco raised the dead as zombies, and the two traveled to a place that Otakatay knew would be a safe hideout, his old stronghold. After some renovations to the stronghold, the two began raising an army of undead and awakened animals, and it was at this time that Francisco decided to remove himself permanently from humanity and become a lich. The two decided to get revenge against the Tree Wardens for their past defeat of Otakatay, and Francisco thought that they would make a grand addition to his undead army.

Armand reads the diatribe of Francisco's rantings. "Ugh, this stuff reads like a bad two-copper novel." He wonders if he should keep them. He decides to simply on the principle of what not to do and what decisions to not make in life.
The next morning he prepares and taking the remains of the 3 mummy lords, goes into the graveyard. There he digs a shallow grave far away from the honored of the Tree, and then casts consecrate, hallow, and then dispel evil on their remains. He will then sit there for a time and contemplate.

Vamir smiles as he enters his room. The finds a place to store his new chest, and thinks to himself this may finally be home. The witch takes the time to remove most of his adventuring gear, and stretches. Vamir runs his hand across Melzat and smiles affectionately at him. Vamir takes the time to bath, managing to get the smell of battle of of him and goes in search of Armand. Finding the cleric in the graveyard, Vamir clears his throat. "I just wanted to let someone know I am going to spend some time clearing my mind. You will see a willow, with Melzat resting at the base of its trunk. That will be me. There is much I need to think on, and before the world needs us again I would like to be prepared.," Vamir steps outside the graveyard and casts his spell.

Elyngael and Brawn are taking a leisurely stroll all around the Tree. They breathe deep and relish the ability to walk without looking over their shoulders. Elyngael is still marveling over the Culverwood speaking in her mind. As a ranger, she's always been closely tied to Nature, but it has never spoken to her. It makes her happy to remember, and she hopes it might happen again. Elyngael stops and leans against the trunk of the Tree, "Is your name Deeproot?" she says softly.

Armand doesn't find Francisco's writing to his liking, but makes sure to deal with the Mummy Lord remains. Neshi catches up with some friends then heads off to the Catacombs to sell the unclaimed loot. Vamir finds the perfect spot for his new chest, in his room, then heads out to find Armand so he can tell him he's going to be a tree for a while. Elyngael is still reveling in the marvel of The Culverwood chatting with her. On a whim, she asks the tree if Deeproot is his name, but of course, without a speak with plants spell, she won't get an answer. Owen spends time with his family, and the trio pitch in on repairing the town.
With Armand looking on, Vamir transforms into a tall willow tree, with long "weeping" branches that touch the ground. While in tree form, Vamir tries to connect with his patron Maab, but for some reason she isn't responding. Vamir tries harder to get an answer, but the queen of the fey just won't respond. In frustration, the witch tree sends out a cry, which to the human ear would be nothing but a rustling of the leaves, saying, "If anyone is out there please respond." for a minute or two, there is nothing, but then in a unremarkable voice, he hears, "My sisters and I are listening." when Vamir asks who she is, and who her sisters are, the voice identifies herself as Lady Watcher, one of the five crones of the south. "How can we be of service?"
As Vamir is in tree form, Folbre enters the graveyard, and heads directly in Armand's direction. How a blind man can navigate so well, is still one of the great mysteries of the Tree. Folbre is accompanied by three others, a half-elven woman, a gnomish man, and a halfling man. When the party reaches Armand, Folbre introduces the three newcomers, saying, "I was told you may be here, allow me to introduce Madam Fleceil Waterslipper, Master Grenad Blueshrub, and Master Lew Fernleaf They just arrived this morning coming all the way from the main Sage guild library in the floating city. Grenad, the gnome, steps forward gives a polite bow saying we are here to start the new branch library as per your request. As a relatively small branch, those in charge felt that for now anyway the three of us could handle the needs of the Branch at the Tree. I am an Adjunct Sage, and besides having the responsibilities of a chamber specialist, I will also be the Sage in Charge. Lady Waterslipper, and Master Fernleaf are both apprentice sages, and will hold the other two chamber specialist positions. I was instructed to offer the Sage in Charge position to you since you vastly out rank me, and it would be an honor to relinquish the duties to you if you desire them." Folbre informs Armand that for now, one of the rooms at the Triple T is being renovated to house the branch library, with plans to build a proper branch building in the future.

But it is one I do not think I deserve. My small efforts to recover and record learning are small and meager. Often I am away from the Tree for months on end as I venture forth with the other Wardens of the Tree of Parting. It would be a disservice to the Guild and the residents of the Tree for me to be put in charge. I would offer any help I can to the Guild's endeavors here though. I've been compiling a library of books in our headquarters to offer as a lending library to the residents here and to preserve knowledge. But also to safeguard some knowledge as it may not be good for it to be just lying around. I offer you the library in the Wardens Headquarters as a base of operations until a proper Guild Hall can be constructed at the Tree of Parting."
Armand hopes his offer won't put out the other Wardens as the HQ is their living quarters.

Elyngael wanders over to the Triple T for a cold cider. She sits down and casually observes the other patrons as she savors her drink. It's nice to relax, but it would be even nicer if she could strike up a conversation with a fellow Ranger.

Vamir almost snaps out of tree form when the new voice touches his ears, "Your voice is strange, and I do not know you. Normally when I reach out Queen Maab answers, but lately there has been more and more quiet. I do not understand, and honestly the lack of understanding is a bit frightening. You say you are from the south. How does my voice reach you?"

DM Jeremy Monday August 17th, 2020 6:16:03 AM Neshi After returning with the cash from the loot sale, Neshi wanders off on his own for a while with a desire to commune with the elements for a few days, and clear his head. On the second day of his sabbatical, Neshi is wandering about, and comes upon a man sitting next to a campfire roasting a brace of rabbits. As he approaches the fire, Neshi sees what appears to a human male though a closer look reveals wings similar to a dragon fly's on his back, though they are folded up at the moment. The man with the dragon fly wings beckons Neshi join him and hands him a skewered and perfectly roasted rabbit. As the man takes the second rabbit for himself, he says to the liontaur, "I've been expecting you!"
Osul The druid finds himself chipping in at various places as he is working, to help right as many wrongs as possible, that were caused by the evil duo of Francisco and Otaktay. In his efforts, he runs upon a unexpected sight. He sees Wiz-Bang helping out in the rebuilding of a home. The diminutive Greenmage himself is of little help obviously, but he seems to have some friends. He has half a dozen dire apes, that he most likely summoned hauling lumber up to the roof and pitching in anywhere heavy lifting is required. Wiz-Bang also seems to have gained a plant friend, that resembles a birch tree, who is also helping out. when Wiz-Bang sees Osul he scampers over to his friend and says "Wiz-Bang glad Wardens are home, and glad to see druid friend. Wiz-Bang not much help, but tree friend and summoning magic make up for Wiz-Bang's small size."
Armand "We completely understand", Grenad replies, " I was simply instructed to offer the position to you, and if you declined than I am to take the position. In truth, I was told that you would probably decline due to the important work you do with the Tree Wardens, but out of courtesy I was to offer the position anyway, and to inform you that at anytime you changed your mind, the position is still yours." When Armand offers the use off the Warden's library, Folbre says, "That may be a better accommodations than the triple t, it will only be for a few months, Let me know what the other Wardens say, as without a consensus, we won't barge in on your home."
Elyngael As Elyngael scans the tavern, she spies a familiar face. Caleb Amethyst, ranger, and chief aid to Lord Protector Hiram Tubalcain, of Owen's homeland, Caleb sees the elven ranger, and lifts his drink, both as a means of recognition, and as a invitation to join him.
Vamir Lady Watcher chuckles a bit as she says, "Oh there is very little my ear misses. I understand your frustration, not being able to commune with your patron must be difficult. That said, my sisters and I can offer you something that it appears you desire, understanding, well the means to obtain it anyway. While we can't give you insight on Maab's silence we can give you the ability to understand with but a touch. If that sounds interesting, all one needs to do is break your contract with Maab, by signing a new one with us."
