Battleplans: Afternoon (DM SteveK)

More suggestions and refinements are discussed, and finally settles into a solid plan.

Plan: Sharpe and Gaffer lead the tail away from Shale House. The rest of the team waits a couple minutes and then heads to the Compound. Several minutes later, Sharpe and Gaffer ditch the tail and quickly move to join the others near the Compound. Somebody take Sharpe's grappling hook, everyone climbs or flies over the wall to take out the guards beyond the gate first and the outside guards are the secondary target.

If that sounds right, the heroes can act!

"Sounds like a plan to me," Sarge says. "Toston, if we can all stay together, I don't need to be sped up or flown. But if we're gonna save Toston's spells, we can't just go running off willy-nilly."

(OOC: I'm unsure where the PCs are on the map. Are the brown squares the wall and/or roof? And if so, do we get to decide where we are placed? Strategy-wise, I'd like to recommend we keep guards from moving towards any of those doors.)

Based on assumptions from the above, Desdichado comes down the wall and positions himself to move as closely as possible to H:14.

Hmerrin waits with the others while Gaffer and Sharpe make like decoys.

Once the lookouts have all moved off, he leaves HQ with the rest of the group.

Based on the scouting report, the young fighter looks to bring everyone to the compound from the north (top) in order to avoid being seen by the guards.

Gaffer and Sharpe hopefully catch up.

Hmerrin notices getting to a wall narrow enough to make climbing feasible seems to bring them awfully close to the guards. He shakes his head at the likelihood of getting over unseen/unheard.

"Whoever's flying/climbing over go ahead. I'll give a few seconds and then come around this corner."

Toston says, "I'm flying over. I have overland flight which lasts for a really long time. Does anyone else need flight? I think at least 2 of us should fly over so we can keep the 2 guards in the courtyard busy."

If anyone else says they need flight the gnome casts flight on them first before casting a shield spell on himself.

He also casts message on the entire group before flying over as close to G12 as possible from the blind side of the guard if possible (I think that might be from the direction of the north wall)

Gaffer goes with Sharpe with the temple, letting Sharpe split off first and then heading into a quieter alley (Stealth: 15) to take shape of a hawk once more and flying a direct route straight to the compound, over the various buildings along the way. He looks behind him as he leaves to see if the tail have caught on to what is happening. (Perception: 38)

The plan agreed to, the Tide waits in Shale House.

Sharpe and Gaffer move out back towards the Temple of Wardd, and, amazingly enough, all 3 watchers follow them. At the temple, Sharpe makes his slip, Gaffer flies like a hawk, and they both make a bee-line for the north side of the Compound to catch up with the other Tide heroes.

Thinking how long it would take Sharpe and Gaffer to walk to the Temple of Wardd and how long it would take for them to go from there to the Compound north side, AND how long it will take the Tide to go from there to the Compound north side; Hmerrin makes a silent count, then the young hero leads the team out the front door to the Compound.

Immediately upon the Tide's exit; Nissa and the other gnomes move the opposite way towards the closest entrance to the City Below, and thence to the gnome community residing there.

Happy fortune gets the Reunited Tide to a place 30' away from the north wall without an obvious alarm being raised. But everyone feels the sand is running out of the glass. It would only have been minutes since Sharpe and Gaffer gave the slip to their tails, and for those tails to report to thier handlers. And if those tails are minions of the rakshasa, the news that the Tide has been asking about animal-headed men could be arriving this very moment...

Sharpe suggests to the "non stealthers". "Maybe you want to go the gates, the stealthers can try going up there, hit them while they're distracted", he gestures to V12 gets out his grapple and attempt fix it in a perch on the roof. If successful he will start to climb as quietly as possible.

Sarge doesn't do stealth, and hustles up to the wall. Desdichado moves up alongside Sarge.

Eisnehorn moves with Shifty behind a corner of a building to keep an eye on the guards at the front gate.

Sharpe suggests a party split, gets out his grapple, and begins to trot to the wall.

Hmerrin grins at Sharpe, agreeing, and asks Toston to go with Sharpe and Gaffer. The young fighter then trots to Sarge and Dez.

Toston stealthily double moves to join Hmerrin, Sarge, and Dez.

Gaffer-Hawk casts Barkskin, and flies to a nearby roof to keep an eye on Sharpe and the area. He waits until Sharpe has successfully climbed up before intending to fly next to him. From his perch, Gaffer-Hawk can't see inside the Courtyard, but he does spot the three 'tails' hurrying from the Temple of Wardd direction towards the Compound; they should arrive in less than 30 seconds (ooc: i.e. 5 rounds).

It takes a little more time for Sharpe to get to the wall (move action), throw the grapple so it lodges in the crook between wall and roof (standard action AC 7 [5 +2 for distance]), and climb the wall using the rope and bracing his feet on the wall (1/2 speed move action, double move with Climb DC 5). This gives the other heroes a chance (2 rounds of actions) to get into position.

OOC: All other PCs can have 2 rounds of actions for their PC next Post. Sharpe can only post Free or Immediate actions.

Eisenhorn will move 45ft south towards the wall keeping an eye on the guards. (Double-move) (Stealth Check: 12 + 9 + 20 = 41).

If at any point he notices that the guards look like they are about to go inside he will take out his bag of tricks rust and throw the ball towards the guards hoping the attack by a random woodland being will confuse them enough for the other party members to have time to get into position. (Bag of Tricks Roll: 87 = Leopard) (OOC: I think this shouldn't interfere with invisibility but let me know)

Otherwise he will wait for an all clear signal from Toston or Hmerrin and then Dimension Step to H14.

Toston Lotor makes like a hole in the air, and stealthily flies over the wall (Fly DC 15 to succesfully fly the 90 degree change) and around (Second Fly DC 15 to succesfully fly the 90 degree change) to get to the front gate guards. The gnome keeps in contact with Hmerrin and Eisenhorn...

Dez jogs around the corner and straight for the gate guards, which makes them extemely nervous; having a well armed-and-armored man jogging up to them! Swords flash out and they are ready for trouble!

Eisenhorn will steadily close the gap between himself and the gate guards, ready to throw a random woodland creature at them.

Sharpe clambers up the wall and waits. Breathing deeply, opens his senses to observe all the noise, smells and vibrations of the city. He too notes the three 'tails', and notice the tails noticed someone climbing the wall with a rope. Thier reactions can't be heard over the city, but they start running to the Manor's courtyard...

Gaffer crouches down on the wall next to Sharpe's grappling hook and returns to his usual form. He'll cast Stoneskin on Sharpe once he has climbed up and then begin casting Summon Nature's Ally to complete next round, when the fight kicks off.

Sarge keeps trotting to the gate with Hmerrin keeping pace...

The four human gate guards turn as one to face the jogging Desdichado, Sarge, and Hmerrin. One acolyte with them ushers two people who just left the Courtyard away from the possible fight, while another turns to help the guards. unison, they draw swords and pull up thier shields. "That's far enough!", one snaps. The acolyte is does an almost comical double-take. "The Tide!", he blurts out, "Attacking!!"

Guard 1 and 2 thrust out at Desdichado in an economical undercut, keeping thier shields weaving in front of them. Guard 3 and 4 look ready for action.

Sharpe, Gaffer, and Toston can watch the Courtyard. There are five more people seemingly offering, praying, or contemplateing. There is also another team of four elven guards and two acolytes here. One devotee looks up from a conversation with a guard and her eyes go round, staring at Gaffer and Sharpe. "What are the Tide doing on your roof?" The inside guards are instantly on alert and begin shouting. "We are being attacked. The Tide are attacking!"

The three tails are too late. With the alarm raised, a cacaophony of sound rises from the courtyard. The Tails slow down, look at each other, and exit the scene, looking as innocent as they can.

Eyes narrowing at seeing acolytes of Ga'al, Sharpe takes a single step forward (5ft step to U14), he takes aim at the closest acolyte with intention of taking Ga'al's closest followers down first. Drawing his bow back he thinks a prayer to Wardd and feels like he can feel the blessing on his bow response. Imagined or not he looses his first volley.

He calls out to Hmerrin, "I'm shocked, shocked I say. Or rather they are" indicating the guards.

Gaffer completes his spell, focusing on S24 to summon forth a Large Air Elemental.

Gaffer calls out a command and the Air Elemental turns to it's whirlwind form, moving to block the doorway and force anyone going in or out to make saving throws not to be drawn in, starting with Guards 7 and 8.

If the guards are caught inside they recieve slam attacks from the swirling air.

For his own action Gaffer will Wildshape into a Large Air Elemental himself.

Toston watches the electricity arc out of his finger tips as he had never cast lightning bolt before. The guards were lined up just too perfectly for it and he had focused in casting evocation spells. Though the electricity was not as powerful as any potential spells involving fire he could cast it still seemed like it could get the job done.

Eisenhorn is startled at the speed of the encounter turns violent, and moves up to Cast Haste on Himself, Dez, Hmerrin and Sarge.

Sharpe's eyes narrow at seeing acolytes of Ga'al. He hpps down to a lower rooftop and pulls out his bow (ooc: climbing required 2 hands, and it takes a move action to get his bow out) and fires a single arrow at the closest acolyte... missing! (ooc: used frist roll)

Hmerrin grouses that the acolyte ruined his entrance and stole his thunder. Stepping into the line, he swings hard at one of the guards. Surprisingly, the 'guard' almost instinctively blocks Hmerrin's axe with his large shield! That shouldn't have happened!

Axe at the ready, Desdichado sends out a torrent of blows on the nearest enemy with his Greataxe. Like Hmerrin, the 'guard' blocks 2 of Desdichado's attacks with his shield! What is going on here?

Sarge moves forward and casts Prayer.

Toston flies up and around to line up the Guards with a heroically cast Lightning Bolt! Guard 4 and 3 manage to duck, but 2 and 1 get the brunt of the blast, and the smell of ozone and burnt hair fills the air.

Gaffer summons a Large Air Elemental. Gaffer, now human, can speak Auran and the elemental obeys; becoming a Whirlwind and moving to block the doorway to the Manor. It 'winds over Acolyte 4 (saved), Devotee 6 (buffeted, not picked up), and swirls back and forth to pick up both Guard 7 and 8! (ooc: Whirlwind is only 5' a the base and so can hover to cover only 1/2 the doorway). Devotee 6 falls unconscious, and the two guards exclaim as they are picked into the air!

Gaffer then Wildshapes into a Large Air Elemental himself!

The four human gate guards ignore Toston and concentrate on the fighters in front of them. "I don't think they have fought someone like us, Brothers!", one shouts as he grits his teeth. "Let us show them the power of four heart-seeded from the same ritual!" Two and two, they concentrate on Desdichado and Hmerrin, adjusting to break Toston's line. One strikes Desdichado! Dez takes 6 damage

The Acolytes look to deal with Toston. Two bolts of lightning strike through where the gnome floats! Toston takes 20 damage Reflex DC 17 for 10; and 25 damage, Reflex DC 17 for 12

The Devotees that are still standing drop whatever they are doing and high-tail it away from potential violence. Those inside the courtyard can't get out, so they cower in corners. Those outside, flee around corners and are lost in the city.

Guard 7 and 8 both manage to get out of the Air Elemental's whirlwind.

Guard 5 and 6 take cover around the big statue of Ga'al (20% miss chance).

Acolyte 3 and 4 target Gaffer and Sharpe with 2 more Lightning Bolts! Gaffer and Sharpe takes 19 damage Reflex DC 17 for 9; and 20 damage, Reflex DC 17 for 10

Gaffer is caught off guard by the first Lightning Bolt, striking him fully in his chest, but swiftly moves aside causing the second to only glance him.
[Can I confirm that I have it right with Steelgrass armour giving Electricity resistance? And does this apply while I am in wildshape?]

Gaffer is happy for his summon to stay around the door and make any movement to and fro difficult for others. Staying in the same spaces as at least one of the guards, it continues to try and pull them in.

He himself flies down to the courtyard, taking a whirlwind form too once he is out of Sharpe's area, and moves in a circular path to try and pick up first Acolyte 3, then 4, then Guard 6 and 7.

Hmerrin's face contorts in confusion as the guard unerringly blocks his blow.

Sarge's explanation doesn't clear things up for him.

"So can we hit them, or not?" he wonders aloud.
Seeing Sarge attack convinces the lad she must think she can.

Hmerrin doubles down on the power, swinging his axes for all their worth.

"Alright friend..block this"

Sharpe sways left and right, only sizzled by the lighting, and looses a volley on Acolyte 3, killing her with the first shot! Turning on Acolyte 4, Sharpe’s next arrow bursts through his chest. A surprised look is the last thing on his face as he drops.

Hmerrin wonders at both the Guards and Sarge’s explanation, but seeing the grizzled dwarf attack gives him the confidence to power into his Guards. Despite the Ga’alian Quad blocking two strikes, the young fighter kills Guard 3 with a single blow, and rends the prone Guard 4 (who suddenly couldn’t block further shots) into a bloody paste.

Toston, scorched by lightning, protects himself against such in the future, and moves to a more physical confrontation with one of the acolytes.

The violence and multi-directional assault at the gate causes the remaining guards and acolytes to change tactics. Shouts and calls have Acolyte 1 withdraw from Toston to the Gate. Acolyte 2 follows and closes one of the heavy gate doors!

Guard 1 and 2 step out of the Grease spell, keeping together, guarding the gate, and Guard 1 stabs at Desdichado, and hits a vital spot! Des takes 12 damage

In the Courtyard, Guard 7 manages to get out of a whirlwind, but Guard 5 and 8 are still stuck! With only Guard 6 free, he steps into cover from Sharpe and attacks Gaffer-Elemental with his sword. Gaffer takes 9 damage

The Devotees cower in corners.

Bursting from doors of the small rooms are reinforcements! Four burly half-orcs come into the Courtyard, ready for battle!

Hmerrin looks up from his rend of the guard to see the gates closing.
"Right," he answers Sarge. "What if we split them up, and make one a doorstop instead?"

Circling the Grease spell, the lad lowers his shoulder and barrels into g2's chest, legs pumping furiously as he tries shoving the man through the gate.

Sharpe looses a volley on the acolytes, and kills Acolyte 2 with his first arrow. Acolyte 1 follows with the next shot. Both dead!

Sarge clarifies her warning, and maneuvers around the greasy ground. She can’t get into the same space as Guard 2, but the good news is none of her opponents get any opportunity to attack. (ooc: AoO is only if ‘leaving’ a threatened area, not moving into one, so no AoO.)

Desdichado pivots to Guard 1 as he moves by, frustrated that he is able to block so many attacks, and only wounds the guard once.

Hmerrin has a plan to stop all the blocking, and lowers his shoulder and barrels into g2's chest! Guard 2 tries to stab the lad (missing), and, legs pumping furiously, Hmerrin shoves him back through the gate, into the Acolyte, and pushes both of THEM into to Courtyard! (ooc: Not being adjacent to each other, the Ga’alian Quad are unable to use their uncanny blocking ability!)

Air Elemental continues to play with Guard 7 and 8.

Gaffer tries and again Guard 6 avoids the whirlwind (but Guard 5 can’t get out). The druid zips up 100’ (ooc: rise at ½ speed means this is a double move) and then ejects Guard 5 in the open air! Next round, he plans to get back down to earth and face off against the new Guards…

Toston casts scorching ray at guard 2, and the man groans and slides to the ground, then slides over to get soon get through the gate.

Sharpe sees guards coming up the ladders and as he turns he is hit in the neck with a projectile, fortunately the stoneskin absorb a lot of the blow and he makes a mental note to do something nice for Gaffer. By the time he recovers the first guard is on top of him but he follows through with the attack. (AoO - I didnt add -4 penalty because of precise shot)

Eisenhorn uses his Dimension Step ability to walk to the top of the courtyard wall, then lay down prone to present less of a target. (ooc: takes 20’ of DimStep movement)

Sharpe only takes a minor wound thanks to Gaffer, and fills Guard 10 with enough arrows to have killed an Immortal… but the Half-Orc only grins. His guts are spilling out, he is bleeding, and clearly should be dead, but still seems completely full of vitality! “You picked the wrong Temple to attack, archer!”

Sarge steps to flank Guard 1 and strikes twice. Desdichado, after a swift heal, finds Guard 1 can’t block any strikes when none of his Quad are together, and he quietly dies.

Hmerrin sends out a mental call to Eisenhorn and Toston about Sharoke, the Shale House attacker, then starts carving up guards. Guard 11 is scored on five times, deep cuts on all parts of his body, and yet he still grins back at the blond fighter through wounds that should have killed him twice over!

Gaffer surveys the filling courtyard from up above, and casts Sleet Storm, which is identified and counterspelled by a Readied Sharoke! Gaffer-Elemental flies down to rooftop level back near Sharpe to give the archer some help.

Toston flies up and around to hover above the inside of the court parapet and strikes Sharoke with a Magic Missles spell.

Guard 5, 6, and 7 all use bows to target Gaffer. Of six missles, only one strikes true, but again does more damage than it should. Gaffer takes 13 damage

Guard 8 manages to get out of the Large Elemental-Whirlwind!

Guard 9 and 10 flank Sharpe, but don’t attack the archer directly, but instead target his bow (and because a person can’t AOO with a bow, Sharpe doesn’t get that opportunity). Guard 9 tears Sharpe’s bow from his hands, and Guard 10 trips Sharpe flat. Disarmed and prone, Sharpe is much more vulnerable to the leering Half-Orcs…

Guards 11 and 12 also try the Disarm trick on Hmerrin, but less successfully than their two brothers. First, Hmerrin has melee weapons, and he has the opportunity to strike both Guards before their maneuvers. Second, only Guard 11 succeeds, and Hmerrin’s battleaxe spins to the dirt!

Acolyte 5 crowds near some cowering Devotees and casts Magic Missile at Toston to no effect. Acolyte 6 hugs the wall and casts a Lighting Bolt at Toston. 21 damage (prior to any defenses) Reflex DC 18 for half

Initiates 1 and 2s Spiritual Hammers (directed last round) against Hmerrin, both miss. And then they both cast Searing Light spells against Toston. Surprisingly, they both hit and the unholy light scorches the Dragon Disciple in ways fire protection doesn’t help! Toston takes 17 and 17 more damage!

Sharoke ignores Toston and attempts to Dispel Gaffer’s Nature’s Ally, but his spell isn’t strong enough, and the Elemental remains. “Ga’al protect us!”, he exclaims, frustrated.

He his grabs his bow (AoO) holding it up to defend himself (I think I can use Total Defense). With no time to dwell on his mistake he yells, "They aren't going down what the hell is going on"!

Lying down on top of the wall Eisenorn observes the situation. At Hmerrins pointer he decides to try and do something about Mr. Sharoke. Grabing his Lesser Rod of Metamagic: Silent from his Quiver, he discretely drops a Stinking Cloud spell (Fort. Save DC: 20) on R23 hoping to ruin the cleric's day as well as 3 of the Guards. (Sleight of Hand Roll if needed: 7 + 4 = 11) (ooc: Sending picture of location via E-mail.)

Noting the incredible resilience of the guards he attempts to deduce if this is due to some religious ritual and if there is some way to negate its effects. (Knowledge Religion Roll: 16 + 23 = 39)

Gaffer curses internally as his spell is countered, and then feels an arrow rip through his form, definitely feeling the pain now. He tries a second spell, Wall of Stone, casting it such that it creates two boxes, one around each Guards 9 and 10, connected by a seem of wall behind Sharpe (between T15 and U15).

If either escape the trap, Gaffer attempts to fly over both of them while avoiding Sharpe, before flying off the edge of the roof. Looking down at Sharaoke and deciding what to do next.

Sharpe hits the floor and quickly grabs his bow (Guard 9 hits Sharpe takes 7 damage) holding it up to defend himself.

Eisenhorn decides to do something about Mr. Sharoke, and with his Silent Metamagic Rod, he discretely drops a Stinking Cloud spell on the cleric, 3 Guards, and the Air Elemental. Guard 8 avoids the spells effects, but the other four start puking their guts out all over the Courtyard (including the Elemental who is no longer in whirlwind form)! Eisenhorn’s musings on the guards’ resilience concludes that Ga’alian Quads, as Sarge called them, usually have different abilities shared among the Quad. And these special abilities could be nearly anything to include linking the Quad’s very lives together…

Hmerrin gapes at Guard 11, but then instinct takes over as the two men try to disarm him. He gets a good lick into to both of them before finding himself minus his battleaxe. "Its another one of them quads!" he yells back at Sharpe. And using just a hand axe, he turns Guard 12 into a bloody pulp. A Pulp that still grins and attacks!

Gaffer encounters a couple setbacks and casts a tries a second spell, Wall of Stone, the wall of the Manor House and the Courtyard wall acting as the anchor points, so it doesn’t matter that the small buildings roofs are made of wood. He creates two boxes, one around each Guards 9 and 10, connected by a seam of wall behind Sharpe. It is a clever plan, but the wall is only five feet high, and do not block either Half-Orc from Sharpe. Gaffer then tries to whirlwind the Half-orcs, but again, they resist getting pulled into the maelstrom.

Sarge reminds the heroes that half-orcs can fight past unconsciousness, and just keep hitting them. She casts her own Spritual Hammer and it goes after Guard 12.

Toston returns fire at Acolyte 5 with 2 scorching rays, burning her to the ground! He then moves back to near where Sarge is while asking for some healing when she has a moment

Guard 5 fires two arrows at Gaffer hovering over the Stinking Cloud, but misses.

Guard 6, 7, 8 and Sharoke stagger out of Eisenhorn’s Stinking Cloud from different directions.

Guard 9 and 10 lear down at the prone Sharpe and stab, stab, and stab again. Sharpe going into Total Defense negates the penalties for being prone, but the Half-Orcs wound the archer twice, once in a critical spot. [b]Sharpe takes 25 damage


Guards 11 and 12, both look dead, but are still fighting! Through tatters of their armor, Hmerrin can see a green vine growing from their chest… They miss with all of their attacks.

Acolyte 6 doesn’t have a target, and takes the opportunity to climb a ladder to the wooden rooftops.

Initiates 1 and 2s Spiritual Hammers continue against Hmerrin, both miss. The Initiates then move up to support the Guards, each healing Guard 12 who doesn’t look dead anymore.

Seeing his opening when the walls go up Sharpe slaps his chest to active the fly ability of his armour and shoot into the air in an arc, as to avoid any potential attacks. Relief washes over him and he nods his thanks and Gaffer and Eisenhorn before firing off a shot whilst 25ft directly above guard 9.

Gaffer is frustrated to see his initial walls be ineffective, but as they continue to grow beyond his own spell he is glad that E is hiding somewhere nearby.

He turns his focus down into the courtyard, moving away from the stinking cloud to be sure he doesn't disturb it, he flies over to L23, maintaining his height and casts Flame Strike on the point between G23,G24,H23,H24 which should ensure it hits the four guards/initiates at the entrance without harming any allies. Desdichado winds his way around the grease spell to the half of the closed gates. He knows one of the Acolytes tried to close the gates and only got one door closed. It will only take a little effort to open them again.

Sarge has Toston’s ‘six’ and casts Cure Critical Wounds on the gnome. Her Spiritual Hammer continues attacking Guard 12.

Eisenhorn gets a brief moment of satisfaction as he sees the cleric retching his guts out. But Sharpe’s predicament and Gaffer’s plan, has the Wizard casting another Wall of Stone, raising the wall another 10ft! The wizard then crawls the parapet to attempt avoiding.

Hmerrin bats away various attacks of various types, and eyes his foes with a great deal of irritation, calling "I'm gonna be here all day unless somebody can get over to Sharpe and take out those two attacking him."

Toston, reinvigorated, flies up and makes Acoylte Flambe’. He dies a horrible, flaming death.

Sharpe sees his opening, and uses his Celestial Armor to fly up and out of melee range before firing off a shot whilst 25ft directly above guard 9.

Gaffer frustrated his spells have been less than anticipated, tries again. Moving towards the Gate, he casts Flame Strike hitting two guards and two initiates. One initiate falls, and burned flesh adds to the smells in the courtyard.

Guard 5 fires two arrows at Gaffer, striking once. Guard 8 also comes around the Stinking Cloud, and strikes Gaffer once with an arrow. Both arrows do far more damage than they should… Gaffer takes 17 damage!

Guard 6, 7, and Sharoke dry heave onto the dirt courtyard.

Guard 9 and 10 jump out of their stone boxes, snarling, but there is no one near sword reach…

Guards 11 and 12, both look dead, but are still fighting! Through tattered and burned, they still plug the gap, trying to wound Hmerrin… all missing.

Initiate 2s Spiritual Hammers continue against Hmerrin, and it hits! Hmerrin takes 9 damage. He then squeezes forward and delivers a devastating Touch attack for Cause Serious Wounds on Hmerrin! (Crit confirmed! Hmerrin takes 35 damage![/b]

If they are neutral and make a DC 20 Will save, they take 5 points of damage and are not blinded.

Gaffer can no longer ignore his mounting wounds and takes a moment to pause and cast the one healing spell he prepared today, Cure Moderate Wounds, healing himself for 21 damage.

Immediately after he flies down to straight to Sharoke to see if he can't pull an old friend into his whirlwind and drag them back into the Stinking Cloud just before the whirlwind wears off.

His summoned elemental will reactivate their whirlwind form once more to continue blocking the door, as Gaffer is unable to give it further instructions for the time being.

Sharpe hovers in air and prays that Hmerrin is right, volleying into Guard 9. His first two arrows kill the Half-Orc, and, like strings cut from a puppet, all four Half-Orcs collapse…dead. Sharpe’s remaining arrows pulverize Guard 7 who also dies.

Desdichado opens the remaining side of the front gate and moves forward.

Hmerrin gets his worst wound of the month just from having a guy touch him, and gets his chance to deal with Initiate 1 sooner than either of them planned. The Half-Orc Quad drops dead when Sharpe kills Guard 9, and now there is nothing blocking Hmerrin’s path… Initiate 1 doesn’t last long.
(DM took Hmerrin’s attacks and gave him a 5’step to deal with Initiate 1)

Eisenhorn sees Sharpe is out of immediate danger and turns his attention back to Sharoke. He casts a Black Tentacles spell which grapples the dangerous cleric, and three Guards!

Sarge can see there are no opponents in front of Hmerrin and so can save the Holy Smite spell (unless she wants to drop it on the people in the Black Tentacles)

Toston moves towards Sharpe (DM was confused and put Toston at N,14). From that location, the gnome can save his spell because he can’t see any opponents (ooc: all line of sight is blocked by the Shrine)

Gaffer can no longer ignore his mounting wounds and takes a moment to pause and cast the one healing spell he prepared today. He considers going back to pull Sharoke into his whirlwind, but pauses. Is Gaffer sure he wants to attempt this while Sharoke is in the spell range of Black Tentacles?
The Air Elemental continues to follow his last orders by attempting to block the doorway, but it is unable to perform any action while in the Stinking Cloud…

Through the telepathic link Eisenhorn will tell Toston and Hmerrin: " The spell will only hold them for a minute and the tentacles will keep trying to pummel them. We need to find a way to hold them when it ends or if I dismiss the spell. Ask them to drop their weapons and any divine focus that the cleric has." ( CMB Roll: 6 + 5 + 17 = 28; DMG: 6 + 4 = 10)

"Shifty, do a flyby around the outside of the temple see if anyone is trying to move in" he murmurs to his familiar.

Seeing the others moving into the courtyard Gaffer flies to the floor and releases both the whirlwind and the Air Elemental form. "The archers pack a punch, I think Sharpe and I took a few more hits than is healthy."

Toston hustles over to Sarge, keeping at least a foot off the ground.

Sharpe flies around to the inner wall to close up with. He keeps a bead on the cleric ready to fire if he takes a hostile action.

Eisenhorn elaborates on his spell, makes a suggestion, and has Shifty do a Flyby on the Manor-Temple outside. That’s going to take a couple rounds, but Shifty is off and flying…

Gaffer returns to human and looks about the courtyard. There are the six doors leading to the buildings inside the courtyard, the shrine to Ga’al, and the Stinking Cloud covering the main doors into the Manor-Temple.

Desdichado cant get at Sharoke, so looks over the shrine in the courtyard. It appears to be a standard marble pedestal with gold bigger-than-life statue of a handsome Ga'al with a seedling of something in his left hand and his right held up reminiscent of a parent telling an unruly child what to do.

Hmerrin feels his wounds close, and looks over at Sarge. He strides over to the northern wall and pops open the first door. It looks like a bunk house for four guards.

Gaffer calls down a bolt of lightning on Sharoke. if they don't drop from Sharpe's barrage, and the three Guards. Guard 5 dies.

Toston drops a fireball on Sharoke and the guards but spares the cowering Devotees. Guard 6, 7, and Sharoke finally die.

The long-time Tide heroes know that an open fight like this will soon bring the notice of the Houses and the Prince; no matter that this Manor is specifically out of the jurisdiction of any of the Houses. Hmerrin and Gaffer combine to do a quick search of the six outer doors. They all lead to basic living quarters with 2 or 4 bunks. There are few possessions in these bunk areas. The only door not opened is the one to the Manor covered by the Stinking Cloud.

Eisenhorn dismisses the Black Tentacles and prepares to Arcane Lock the Outer Courtyard Gates.

There is a little debate on closing and locking the outer Courtyard doors before or after the Devotees have an opportunity to leave. Toston questions them, and they claim they know nothing. Why, they weren’t even allowed to go into the Temple! They are appalled that the Tide thinks they are worshipping Ga’al. “The Immortal Galant Alpha brought an era of peace to his country, and we want the same. No worries, no hardships! Just give and he provides!” (Perception DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { None of the Devotees have HeartSeeds. All the Quads, Acolytes, Initiates, and Sharoke have the dead remains of a plant poking out of their chest. } )

The heroes can continue to consolidate their position. So far, there do not appear to be an alert from the Manor/Temple or growing noises from outside the Courtyard. A situation that can’t last...

The Devotees seem dazed and intimidated by the fierce battle that raged about them, and dumbly agree to everything the Tide wants. Our heroes let them go (after precautions) and Arcane Lock the Gates.

Sharpe notices their is a chest with coins and precious metal goods at the feet of the statue in the courtyard. Probably not enough time to cart it away now, and (with the Arcane Lock) probably enough time to deal with it after cleansing the Temple... if they survive.

Stinking Cloud, unfortunately, is not a dismissible spell, but it only hangs about for 30 more seconds (5 rounds) before the spell ends anyways. By that time there is a rising sussurus of sound outside the compound. It sounds like Dirt City is beginning to take an interest in what is happening here...

The double doors into the Manor-turned-Temple are of reinforced wood and closed. Silver and gold inlaid into the wood depicts a story where there is strife and suffering in the Wold, Ga’al comes with his gift of the Heartseed which turns all into an ordered, idyllic paradise with no wars or conflict of any kind. It really is a tempting message for those whose whole lives have been in want, filth, and fear.
