OOC: Alright I'm back...sort of. Lake Charles was decimated. Cameron and Creole were destroyed. I've no power, no water and no sewer. it's like camping! I had to come to Houston to do some business so I've got internet now. I'll have a generator hooked up for Monday. they have internet and phone svc back up as of Friday.
Michael does not peace bond his weapons, although he has been known to drape a cord around the guard with the ends held together with a bit of tar. Michael knew the Priestess was full of it from the get-go. if you love everyone, then all that means is that you are ambivalent to everyone. No. you love in circles. Friends and family first, the Fist 2nd and maybe a country 3rd, that's all he would give his life for anyway. When someone says love everyone they are usually trying to sell you something that's probably not going to be very good for you. Case in point: this attack. they were just trying to keep us off guard until they could get in position. Briefly, Michael considers the utility of killing all people who talk nonsense, then realizing he would most likely have to kill almost everyone he quickly discards the idea.
all this flashes through his mind as he takes a moment to scan the surroundings. he usually does that automatically, but for some reason, he was daydreaming...must be getting old. he is on the defensive though and is looking for any attacks.

Sigvar frowns. While not showing as evil, these dwarves certainly are spoiling for a fight. The silence is a problem, but more of a problem is a possible monk standing next to Prudence. Sigvar is not amused, nor is he silenced, yet. He speaks a single word and grows a pair of feathered wings from his back. They are dark, like his fur and they are completely functional. He then swoops across the cathedral and scoops a hopefully willing Prudence up and hopefully out of the silence. ( wasn't sure how far I could go. The wings give me 60' of move so I doubt I clear the silence in one move. If I do, disregard this next part) Heroically he drives straight up and out of the silence so that Prudence can do what she does best, make people sorry they decided to mess with her Fist. (Sigvar attempts to also draw the dwarf near Prudence into attacking HIM rather than HER as he moves her out of the pickle she is in.)

Sigvar doesn't want to stick around. Pru is in trouble and needs to get somewhere she can safely cast spells. He calls on his wings of flying and moves away from the dwarf. The monk narrowly misses him with a roundhouse kick (AoO Miss AC30). Sigvar closes in on Pru and gets low enough to pick her up. Unfortunately that means both he and Pru make themselves open to an attack as they fly away from the monk (AoOs. Hit AC31. Pru takes 14pts damage. Hit AC40. Crit not confirmed on AC29. Sigvar takes 13pts damage)
From her heightened position Pru is now able to retaliate with an elemental ray. Perhaps it was Sigvar's flying, but her ray goes wide.
Trayin moves out of range of the monk. He takes a punch to the back of the head as he does so (AoO Hit AC34. Trayvin takes 15pts damage). He casts a spell to help bolster his defenses.
Pompous isn't at all happy and open fire on one of the dwarves. Despite the number of arrows, they all miss!
Nikolai then steps up for some monk v monk action. His karate chop lands solidly on the dwarf's shoulder, but his attempts to trip with the kama are to no avail. The dwarf stays standing and unstunned (Fort Save vs DC21: 21)
Anna debates what shape is best for the current battle. She opts to go for a plant form over the chimera.
Michael isn't at all happy that there is someone unseen casting spells. He takes to the air (avoiding the readied action), though takes a fist to the back as he does so (AoO Hit AC34. Michael takes 17 pts damage!). He flies to the west to try and find the source of the missiles.

The priestess decides to try and make things tougher for Anna by attempting to dispel her shape change, but is unable to get enough power to do so. (Dispel check: 16=Fail). Maybe next time...

Dwarf 3 doesn't have Michael for company, so turns to Anna. He tries to sweep the leg, and though he misses at first he collects her on the second pass. This is followed up by some ineffective kicks (Miss CMB32. Hit CMB45. Anna is prone. AoO from Trip Miss AC25. Miss AC25, 28, 16, 22)
Dwarf 4 rushes Pompous and tries to deliver an upward knee, that unfortunately collects (Hit AC37. Pompous takes 11pts damage)

Pompous attempts to grapple the dwarf, activate the flight ability of his celestial armor and fly straight up as high as he can while holding said dwarf. Then, once he's flown as far straight up as he can... he'll drop the dwarf.

Nikolai quickly realizes that these dwarves are far better monks than he is and decides to find a better vantage point to conduct battle than to stand there and get pummeled.
Quick: Spend Ki pt for extra 30' speed. Acrobatics check d20 + 22= DC41 vs CMD Slippers of Spider Climb climb speed 20' +30' (ki pt) = 50' total
Move: using Acrobatics to move through threatened area w/o AoO, Nikolai heads strait to the wall and climbs up to the floor of the mezzanine and skitters, upside down, across the floor and over the edge, gaining the mezzanine floor (see new position on map).
Ki pool 6/9
OOC: Total Horizontal move is 30' by my calculations with 5' getting over the edge = 35'. What I don't know is the vertical climb up the wall to the bottom side of the mezzanine floor. But his total Double Move is 100' so that should work. And I'm guessing the dwarf is short and not able to reach him as he crawls past him along the bottom of the mezzanine floor. :)
If by DM calculations this move is 50' or less, than he has a Standard action which he will use to heal himself using Ki pts. Just let me know. Move (using Slippers of Spider Climb):

Sigvar drops down to the ground to get into the fight. Unfortunately his attack doesn't live up to his enthusiasm, and the blow goes wide.
Pru sends a little more pain towards the priestess and then rises up to get a better view of the mezzanine level. She can't see this invisible attacker either. OOC: Per email, you can't counterspell a target you can't see. You keep the spell and hero point
Trayvin attacks as best he can against the monk but to no avail. The dwarf dodges each blow.
Pompous tries a different approach. He reaches out to grapple the monk, though just misses. The monk headbutts him for good measure (Grapple provoked an AoO. Hit AC29. Pompous takes 18pts damage!). At least he manages to get out of reach now. OOC: Note you can only use 1 hero point per turn. You get to keep two of those
Anna takes advantage of the dwarfs movement to tentacle slap him. She manages to bite him and even hit him again. She feels like she gets a really good hold on the dwarf too, but somehow he just slips through her grip. That's not supposed to happen.
Nikolai feels outmonked. Time to get out of reach. He rolls backwards away from the dwarf and runs straight up the wall and onto the mezzanine level. He even has enough time to heal a wound or two.
Michael is persistant. You have to give him that. He quiets his mind. Where is this thing that keeps attacking him? He's pretty sure they're not standing next to him. Pretty sure. If that's the case there's nothing for him to attack. Where that critter is that keeps attacking him though is a mystery he has yet to solve. OOC: You can only use 1 hero point her round. Since you can't attack you get to keep those hero points

Dwarf 4 takes a step to the side to flank Sigvar and starts laying into him. Miraculously, he only gets hit once! (Miss AC25,23,28,19,32. Hit AC35. Sigvar takes 13pts damage!)
The mystery caster on the mezzanine has moved about again. Michael can hear the spellcaster at A20 and sees another five magic missiles come his way. These ones don't feel as strong as the last ones at least (Michael takes 24pts damage).
In good news for the party, the silence spells have ended. Will this shift the tide?

Pru's squeal when she gets hit by the maximized Searling Light is awfully girly for a proud member of the Mailed Fist. Clearly, Pru hadn't taken enough caster levels off the priestess, but it's too late now with that Death Ward and all.
"Time to put you on ice," Pru mutters, signaling that we have reached the "bad puns" portion of the fight. She casts Wall of Ice, choosing the hemisphere form to cover the priestess. Pru's hemisphere has a 19-foot radius, which means [I believe] that the priestess is not adjacent to any part of it and therefore gets no Reflex save.
This time Michael has a different plan in mind. he flys over so that he is near where the caster is. not attacking but sticking to this person like glue. he uses he fly speed of 60 to go to where this person is and stick with them.
he then yells to Pru.

Pru gives the priestess the cold shoulder by encasing her in an ice dome. That will give her time to cool off.
Pompous thinks that now is a really really good time to summon some aid. As an afterthought he wonders about his bow, which unfortunately is still in the hands of dwarf 4.
Michael has plans to follow the caster, but try as he might he just can't find him. It's like after he casts a spell he just isn't there anymore. The guy keeps moving around! Where that caster pops up next is anyones guess. Pru might have heard his call, but she's preoccupied with the priestess to be able to cast a fireball right now.
Nikolai comes into the fight though. Surely between the two of them they can trap this illusive foe.
Anna keeps the hurt on her dwarf. She slaps him across the face with two tentacles and then grips him tightly. For some reason though he just won't stay grabbed and slides out of her grasp.
The enemy act...
The priestess is trapped nicely inside her little ice dome. Can you see through an ice dome? Let's say yes. You can see her cast a searing light spell at the wall. A large chunk melts nicely away but she remains imprisoned for now.
Dwarf 1 really starts kicking into Sigvar, showing no mercy to the taur. (Hit AC40. Crit not confirmed on AC31. Hit AC37,36. Miss AC25,32,27. Sigvar takes 19 + 18 + 18pts damage!)
Dwarf 2 bounces on its feet in front of Trayvin, challenging him to fight (Highlight to display spoiler: {Not going to post actions for D2... this time})
Dwarf 3 can see the futility in fighting Anna. He just can't get past her defences. He gives her a wink and then disappears from her sight. Where he DOES appear though is on the mezzanine behind Nikolai
Dwarf 4 keeps the beatdown going on Sigvar. (Hit AC39. Miss AC22,30,31,25,12. Sigvar takes 24pts damage!). He looks to the other dwarf, and in a raspy voice asks "Are we taking prisoners?". The question goes unanswered.
The mysterious caster doesn't make himself known this round. Is someone too close? Does he feel a little close to the action? Outnumbered? Time will tell...

Pru wants to fireball that pesky caster; she really does. But now Nikolai is up there, bleeding from multiple wounds, and he's inside the blast area. Pru gets a brief picture of herself explaining to Gargul why she fireballed an ally to death, and decides she'd rather not.
She moves toward the mezzanine to give herself a chance of finding this elusive caster. Almost as an afterthought, she casts a quickened Mage Hand so she can help Pompous with his bow situation--although, having already moved, she can't do anything with that spell this round. Then she readies an action.
Here is her readied action: if she hears somebody casting a spell, or speaking a command word to activate a wand [Perception 6], she will cast a Cone of Cold in that direction, trying to angle it so that it doesn't hit Nikolai or Michael. If she has to hit one of them, she'll opt for the less-wounded Michael. Her intent is to force the caster to make a Concentration check because of the damage, and hopefully lose the spell as a result. Of course, that won't work on a wand, but hey, a girl can dream. If the cone goes off, it does 54 damage, Reflex save DC 22 for half.

Sigvar stays low and keeps up his attack on dwarf 4. His cuts slash really deep this time and the dwarf is now bleeding profusely.
Pru decides that fireballing her friends isn't a nice thing to do. At least Gargul probably wouldn't think so. She casts a Mage Hand spell in preparation of helping Pompous retrieve his bow, but her focus right now is on that caster. She prepares to target it with a spell should it try and get another spell off. (Highlight to display spoiler: {Mage Hand has a duration of concentration. Casting another spell would break that, wouldn't it? It also only works on non-magical objects. Might be better to keep the spell slot})
Michael has had it with this caster and decides that the dwarves are much better targets. Highlight to display spoiler: {OOC: It's a move action to retrieve a stored item/potion and a standard action to drink it. CL for a CSW potion is typically 5th level, which means you were healed for 23pts if you chose the CSW potion over the displacement one. Can't move, draw two items and drink two potions in the same round though}
Pompous completes his summon spell and brings a dire ape into the combat. More muscle! (OOC: Please make actions/roll for the ape)
Anna goes for the next nearest target: dwarf 2. She bites into him, drawing some blood.
Nikolai strikes a sunrod and calls for everyone to look for a shadow. Slight issue though is that invisible creatures don't have shadows. Hey, it was worth a shot, right? Maybe they're just hiding in the shadows and not actually invisible?
Sure enough though, there comes the unmistakable sound of someone casting a spell nearby. The thing is it's not coming from near Nikolai. It's coming in the air behind Pru! (E13. 30ft high) It might be fortunate though, as it means none of the party are in the firing line of Pru's attack! She gets her attack off and what had been arcane words turn into curse words as whatever spell was being cast fails! Nice. If history has proven anything, it's likely that this creature won't be standing still.
There is a small hiss (not from Anna) as the priestess finally melts a section of the ice dome. Her time inside obviously didn't cool her temper. She practically seethes as she casts a spell at Pru (Pru to make a Fort Save vs DC21 or be Blinded!)
Dwarf 1 lays into Sigvar with passion (Miss AC31,25,29,27,28. Hit AC35,36. Sigvar takes 21pts + 22pts damage!)
Dwarf 2 gives Trayvin a beating (Miss AC23,23,21,23. Hit AC26,40 (Crit confirmed 35),30. Trayvin takes 14pts + 34pts + 18pts damage and is still prone!)
Dwarf 3 pushes forward and punches Nikolai (Hit AC30. Nikolai takes 24pts damage!)
Dwarf 4 is looking really hurt right now. He's barely on his feet. He still has a little fight left in him though and won't go down easy. He keeps kicking heavily into Sigvar. It doesn't look like he has decided to take prisoners. (Miss AC27,30,20,25,22. Hit AC35,34. Sigvar takes 19pts + 18pts damage!).

Pru shrugs off the Blindness. [Fort save 26] "Oh, we're testing Fortitude now?" she asks. "Try this, then!" She casts a spell and points a finger. A thin green ray shoots toward the priestess, hitting Touch AC 20. If that hits, the priestess takes 105 points of damage, and if that kills her, she is entirely disintegrated. If she makes a DC 23 Fort save, she only takes 16 damage and is not disintegrated.
[The spell is Disintegrate, if that isn't blindingly obvious. :) ]
Since Mage Hand is a cantrip, Pru can cast it over and over and over without using any of her numerous spell slots. However, she remembers it can't grab a magic bow, so she leaves off for now.
Instead, noting that Dwarf 4 is badly wounded and still attacking Sigvar, she hits him with a Quickened Magic Missile. [Dwarf 4 takes 17 force damage.]

Sigvar is able to heal himself but concentrating so hard on that means paying less attention to his strikes.
Pru casts a disintegrate spell at the priestess and causes a little damage to her. She follows up with a magic missile that causes one of the dwarves to collapse. He may have been dying/mostly-dead, but Pompous makes sure that he is absolutely dead. In other news... the bow is lying on the ground right in front of Pompous. It might have a little dwarf blood on it, but it should still work just fine.
He gorilla now finds itself face-to-face with dwarf 1. Its attacks aren't great but it might make for a good distraction.
Trayvin stands up to meet the monk face-to-face. He narrowly avoids a headbut for doing so (AoO Nat1!) but done manage to back the dwarf a little.
Michael decides to introduce a dwarf to his blade. He drops down and flies over to flank with Sigvar. He gets a good shot in too Highlight to display spoiler: {Per previous post, you weren't able to move and retrieve/drink a potion in the same round. Nikolai gets outta dodge. He hastily tumbles away from the dwarf, who really wasn't expecting it (AoO Nat1!) He jumps, tumbles and falls away to safety. As he catches his breath he has a chance to heal himself a little.
Anna continues chipping away at the dwarf nearest her.

Dwarf 2 takes out his frustrations on Trayvin, knocking the cleric to the ground. He then turns his attention to Anna, missing all attacks. (Trip CMB: 45. Trayvin is prone! Miss AC31,26,25,20,19,18 on Anna)
Dwarf 3 steps over the edge of the mezzanine and gracefully touches down on the floor, tumbling to land next to Michael. He manages to 'sweep the leg', landing Michael firmly on the ground (Trip CMB: 36. Michael is prone)

Sigvar drops to the ground with a thud. His heart still beats, but it's starting to fade.
Pru may be blind, but she knows the general direction of the priestess. That's enough to lob a couple of fireballs at her. She starts casting one only to be hit by some magic missiles! (Pru takes 25pts damage!). It doesn't both her though and she gets her spell away. She can't tell, but the priestess dodges most of it. She clearly wasn't expecting a second one to follow. The priestess cops the full brunt of it, knocked off her feet and onto the ground.
Pompous gives a fist pump. Yes! His bow is back. He's ready to defend Sigvar before the dwarf finishes the job. (Highlight to display spoiler: {Hero point action to pick up the bow and full attack I think}). The monk deftly avoids the first arrow, but the second one plugs him nicely.
Magilla Gorilla serves as a nice distraction, storming across the temple to aid Anna and Trayvin.
Trayvin wants to get to Sigvar quickly. This fight could be over soon (and not in a good way) if they can't get him to his feet. He hops to his feet and circles behind Anna for safety. He narrowly avoid a kick to the back in the process (AoO Miss AC27)
Nikolai is on healing duty. He is able to stablize Sigvar from a distance and then readies to restore Pru's sight.
Michael lashes out at the dwarf and delivers a few good blows. Without someone to assist in flanking he just doesn't have the same stopping power. Highlight to display spoiler: {Combat Reflexes only allows you to make one AoO against each act that provokes: "This feat does not let you make more than one attack for a given opportunity". I've counted the other attacks as a full attack action for the round}
Anna continues attacking the monk, damaging piece by piece.
The enemy act...
The priestess has a chat with a deity in the afterlife.
Dwarf 1 is pleased with himself, but isn't so happy about being shot. He moves over and punches Pompous in retaliation (Hit AC30. Pompous takes 15pts damage!)
Dwarf 2 knows how hard Anna is to hit, so takes his frustration out on the Gorilla. It's... brutal. It's the kind of thing that gorilla will remember for a long time. If Pompous was to try and call on that gorilla again it would say no to him. The dwarf has less success against Anna though (Miss AC24,34,30,24,29)
Dwarf 3 wants to weaken Michael before backup arrives. It grab twice before being able to pull the sunblade from his hands. The monk starts kicking into him, though fortunately only one blow lands. (Disarm CMB30=Miss.45=Hit. Michael is disarmed of his sunblade. The dwarf now holds it. Miss AC25,17,17,27 Hit35. Crit not confirmed on 17. Michael takes 16pts damage!)
The greater invisibility spell finally wears off. The caster that has been causing so much trouble can now be seen (by everyone except Pru) hovering over the mezzanine area to the east. He's an elf dressed in very dark clothing. He flies across to the other side of the mezzanine and launches some very strong magic missiles at Anna (Anna takes 31pts damage!)

"Oh, look," Pru sneers, though she can't look at anything at the moment. "Skippy is casting more Magic Missiles. How original!" As a sorcererl, she really doesn't have room to criticize somebody else's lack of spell selection, but she's too mad to care.
She is not, however, mad enough to be lost to all sense. She drops down near Nikolai so he can cure her blindness.
Assuming he does, Pru casts a Wall of Ice to create a horizontal plane of ice, anchored to either side of the mezzanine, covering the space in between. She can't create quite enough ice to cover the whole thing; row 27 remains uncovered [so D-G, rows 11-26]. "Have fun with that, Skippy!" she calls.
Then she casts a quickened Haste on herself, Pompous, Sigvar, Nikolai, and Michael.

The Thumb then moves to D-23, standing over the prone, helpless figure of Sigvar (you can end your move in the same square of a helpless figure), and provides Flanking for Pompous in case he needs it. Sigvar stabilizes. He might get a scar or two from this fight, but at this rate he'll at least live to see them.
Pru hovers down to get within reach of Nikolai, just in time for him to cure her blindness. Able to see once more she hastens some of the party while providing some cover in the form of a wall of ice. For an added kick, she throws in a little taunt.
Trayvin focuses on getting close to Sigvar. Seems the party are regrouping.
Pompous briefly considers whether summoned creatures feel pain or not, then backs up to plug the dwarf with a few more arrows. The dwarf starts to sway on his feet. He's still alive but his breathing is ragged. He's coughing up a fair amount of blood too. You'd think one more good short will send him into the afterlife.
Anna still keeps chipping away at that dwarf. She's persistent, you have to give her that!
Michael gets back on his feet and steps back from the dwarf. He does what he can to keep the dwarf's focus on him, and not on the still unconscious Sigvar. Highlight to display spoiler: {I think you forgot to update your header. Based on the damage and healing from the CL5 potions, I think you might be at 61/121pts.}
With Pru regaining her sight, Nikolai now has a chance to use his ki to fix some of his own wounds. Hmm... monks can do that? Interesting.
The enemy act...
Dwarf 1 is a fighter. He's not going to let some ranger put him down. If he goes, they both go. He steps up to Pompous and delivers what very well might be his last attack in this life. (Trip CMB:41. Pompous is prone. Hit AC36,37,29. Miss AC17,21,15. Pompous takes 18 + 15 + 18pts damage!). Oooh. So close! Pompous will likely have the last laugh you would think.
Dwarf 2 keeps pressing his luck with Anna (Hit AC36,39. Miss AC30,25,27,25,18. Anna takes 16 + 15pts damage!)
Dwarf 3 snarls at Michael's taunts and pursues him as intended. He still has the sunblade well in hand but doesn't swing it. Instead he keeps up his focus of hampering Michael (Trip Miss CMB29. Hit CMB40. Michael is prone. Disarm Miss CMB26. Hit CMB32. Michael is disarmed of his potion. Miss AC11,23). The dwarf now has both Michael's sword and potion but at least he didn't do any bodily harm.
The elf flies north and descends to the stage level (5ft) to get a line of sight to the party. Anna is looking like the biggest threat to him (she is the biggest and closest after all).He mixes it up and casts... Magic Missile (Anna takes 26pts force damage!)
Some notes: - If you are flying please indicate the height at which you are flying - The squiggles to the east and west of the party are thick curtains. - The horseshoe shaped mezzanine level is shown on the right. Treat it as overlapping the main map (ie: I'm trying to show the second level). - The pillars (dark grey blocks) provide partial cover - The blue circle represents an Ice dome with a hole made in the north of it

Pru gains some elevation
The dwarves are making nuisances of themselves, so she casts a Quickened Scorching Ray, and sends all three rays toward Dwarf 3. [Hit touch AC 20 for 15; miss with a natural 1; hit touch AC 23 for 8.]
The elf is making a major nuisance of himself, so Pru readies to counterspell. Her Spellcraft check to identify the spell being cast is 28.
[There was some confusion about her earlier attempt to counterspell, so I'm going to spell it out more specifically. If Pru is able to identify the spell the elf is casting, and if that spell is on her spell list, Pru will counter the elf's spell with her own version. For example, if he casts another Magic Missile, Pru will counter with a Magic Missile spell of her own. Per the rules, this automatically succeeds, and no check is required. If Pru is able to identify the spell, and has another spell that directly counters it, she will use that spell. For example, if the elf casts Slow, Pru will counter with Haste. Per the rules, and the spell descriptions, this automatically succeeds, and no check is required. However, if Pru is not able to identify the spell being cast, or if she identifies it and has no direct counter, then she will use a Dispel Magic as a last resort. Her Dispel check is 18, but that is only relevant if she's got nothing else to counter with.]

Between the elf and the dwarf things are not starting to go well for Anna but things are starting to go even worse for some of her Fistmates.
Being a Morphling she is not without resources so her first action is to take a 5 foot step away from the pesky dwarf.

Trayvin is finally able to get to Sigvar and heal him.
Pru mixes up the ice with a little fire. She casts a few scorching rays at one of the dwarfs. He dodges two of them, but the third leaves a mark.
Sigvar is feeling a lot better now that he has returned from almost-dead. He immediately gets to work on the same dwarf but the darn guy refuses to go down!
Pompous is just about dead himself. The dwarf standing over him is no doubt ready to deliver the killing blow. It's all Pompous can do but to grab his axe and hope for the best. Domi must be watching over him. The axe gets embedded in the dwarf's chest and he collapses to the ground.
Michael keeps up his taunts. He gets back to his feet and narrowly avoids a kick to the face while doing so (AoO Miss AC30). He keeps up his taunts of the dwarf, desperate to keep the focus on himself. (Highlight to display spoiler: {It's a move action to stand up, and another to retrieve an item})
Nikolai can see that Pompous is in trouble. Well, WAS in trouble. He uses the staff to help cure some of the ranger's wounds.
Anna decides that being a snake-thing isn't really suited to her right now. She backs away to safely change shape again back to a tendriculous.
The enemy act...
Dwarf 2 sees a new chance to get in a fight with Anna. He gets close again and goes through the all too familiar routine (Trip CMB47=Hit. Anna is prone! Miss AC23,26,29,20,12. Hit AC31. Anna takes 22pts bludgeoning damage!)
Dwarf 3 isn't going to let Michael get away that easy. (Trip CMB42=Hit. Michael is prone! Miss AC18,25,16. Hit AC39,32,32. Michael takes 14 + 20 + 17pts damage!)
The annoying caster goes to cast another spell. The DM had already planned a different spell, but that seems cruel now. Pru recognises the elf casting a magic missile spell and counters it. The elf looks incredibly frustrated so resorts to an all too familiar tactic of his own. He gives her a wink and then disappears from sight.

Pru makes a mental note that the caster can cast a spell and disappear in the same round. Maybe he can quicken some of his spells like she can. Or maybe the disappearing is just a...thing he can do. [The caster is still visible on the map; is that on purpose?]
Anyway, there are still dwarves to deal with, and some of her friends are looking pretty hurt. Come to think of it, she doesn't feel so great herself.

the healing flows. it tastes like a cherries that have been pickled in sugar and lemon juice, the healing is enough to take the swelling from his eyes and he finds that he was facing about 10 degrees off where the body of the dwarf now lay. this was a brutal fight. never has Michael felt so helpless in the face of an adversary. still its by the hard fights and defeat that one learns if they survive, so he chalks this one up as one of their better wins, because he definitely learned something with this one.

Otherwise, that spellcaster is probably halfway back to its boss reporting on these events. So, take a deep breath and let's look! Look even up there all over that ceiling area. EVERYWHERE! Detect Magics at the ready... on my mark..."
Nikolai expects the Agents to scour the temple with detect magics until they are sure they are not being watched.
Meanwhile, he will assist in gathering all the stuff from the bodies. He is specifically looking for any kind of note that might indicate the true purpose of this ambush. Was it mere coincidence they discovered the fake priestess or was this setup part of the kidnapping dragon's grand plan.

The party start to patch themselves up with Trayvin and Sigvar each lending a hand.
Michael thinks back over the battle, assessing the strategies used and contemplating what could have been done differently.
Pompous is still not in a good shape. He had to rely on all his skills to make it through that fight and it almost wasn't enough.
Nikolai is a little concerned about that invisible caster. Pru is only concerned because she wants to be able to disintegrate his face.
He makes the suggestion for the casters to do some magical scans of the area. In the interest of moving things along, let's say someone does... There are magical auras covering this entire area. Everywhere you look in fact has a moderate evocation aura. As anyone who is able to cast Detect Magic knows, magical areas, multiple types of magic, or strong local magical emanations may distort or conceal weaker auras. Looking for a magical aura may not be sufficient to tell if the mysterious elf is still about. (OOC: If you want to scan something specific please let me know)
Anna explains her tactics, noting that she was intentionally holding back just in case. She announces her plan to check the area as a bat, then takes off and uses a grid search pattern to make sure she covers it all. It's the best she can do and she doesn't end up locating him. Is that a good or bad thing?
Nikolai then sets to looking over the bodies. Besides all the normal clothes he is able to set aside 4 belts, 4 robes, 4 sickles, a headband, a cloak, a ring, an amulet, a holy symbol of Maab, a vest and a shortsword. There are no notes, maps or secret plans on the bodies.
No parishioners have entered the temple for daily prayers. The sounds of the brutal combat probably scared them off.

DM RobC - "Anyone want to search the dais area?" Wednesday September 23rd, 2020 3:50:52 AM
The party search with eyes and ears, detecting evil, detecting magic and with every other thing they can think of. There isn't so much as a trace of the mysterious elf. Either he is the Wold's greatest Hide and Seek player, or he has run away to fight another day.
Pru starts concentrating on the auras that are all over the place. The bodies of the dwarves have many lingering auras to them, as does the priestess. There are no 'gaps' in auras though. If someone was trying to conceal themselves there would be some indication you would think.
She is also able to identify a few of the items as magical... 4 x Belt of Giant Strength +4 4 x Monk's Robes 1 x Headband of Vast Intelligence +4 1 x Cloak of Resistance +3 1 x Ring of Protection +3 1 x Amulet of Natural Armor +2
The priestess had a few interesting pieces on her. What looked like a vest was actually masterwork glamored plate mail. That was a bit sneaky of her. The other interesting thing she had on her was that sword. It is a work of art. It's a fairly small blade held by a grip wrapped in dull, black bear leather. The blade has a thin, twisted cross-guard, just large enough to give the sword the perfect weight balance. A massive pommel is decorated with a single black tourmaline. Etched into the blade in dwarven are the words "Shadow's Cry". Aside from it's beauty, it is also quite a formidable weapon. Pru identifies it as a +2 Adamantine Flaming Frost Shock Shortsword. Nice.
The sickles and holy symbol have no magical auras though. Aww.
Trayvin continues to heal the party. They took a beating. All of them, really. It may take a little while longer before everyone is at full strength.
Anna spares a thought for the priestess. Perhaps she was simply misguided by all of this? Perhaps in her fervor to serve her Queen she simply chose the wrong path? Burying her in a sacred grove might be a nice way to help steer her posthumously back to the right path.
Michael goes through the different flavors that healing provides. Buttered caramel? Almost worth getting hit once more just to taste that one again!
Nikolai is ready to conduct a more thorough search of the temple.
The curtained off areas are rather disappointing really. All they contain are circular stairwells that a person could use to gain access to the mezzanine level. There are some nice tapestries hanging there though.
The dais area has more things to be found. Those gold items would probably be worth a bit of gold. The papers that the priestess had been reading are interesting too. They're written in dwarven, which fortunately Pru can read. Apparently there's some sort of cave network nearby. Not by the sea though. The notes indicate that there are some caverns to the north of the town. It's a warning for people to be more discreet entering and exiting the area and that they are drawing too much attention from the town. The other thing of interest is that the notes seem to indicate that the priestess wasn't a follower of Maab after all. Evidently she was simply using the guise to be a recruiter for this cult.
Michael is perceptive enough to find a book strapped underneath the altar table. Someone had obviously wanted to keep it out of sight and away from others. Its magical aura is so strong that Pru notices it almost immediately when Michael shows it. It is quite a heavy thing. Most of the pages show signs of wear, yet the last few chapters are untouched. It looks like whoever was reading it didn't complete the book. Pru identifies it as a Tome of Understanding +4. If the person had been allowed one or two more days they would have completed it. If that had happened, would this fight have been even tougher?

Even if we aren't burying her there I still have need to venture to a sacred grove before I can receive new blessings from My Queen's consort Lord Eberyon. I think your idea of trying to make this a Mailed Fist Temple of Ma'ab is a good idea, I just wonder if the buiding can be purged of the taint of evil Sigvar detected. If not might it need to be raised and perhaps replaced with some sort of simple shrine somewhat open to nature? I think that might more be my lady's style if this place can't be purged of the taint."

Pru is ready to get some more mansion time, though Trayvin might have a point. It's possible there are more followers about or people who might lay an ambush for them.
Sigvar and Trayvin discuss questioning the corpses. What to do and when to do it though? Handing the corpses over to the authorities perhaps? Not the worst idea.
Pompous feels the sword was made for him and is happy to lay claim to it. Not one to be shy, Michael also calls dibs and claims over half of the value of the loot for himself. That's a rogue for you! :)
Nikolai questions whether that headband actually works or not, citing the choice of the former owner to attack the group. Seems like only a minute ago that the party were on deaths door. Had a few things gone the other way, well, the party might have been speaking with Lord Gargul right now. Still, victory is victory. The party live to tell the tale and the priestess, well, doesn't.
There is discussion on what to actually do with the temple now. It may have been used for some nefarious purposes, but surely that can be changed. Surely it can be put towards some good. It's a very noble idea that the DMs hadn't considered. Nikolai has some good ideas here about making it a Mailed Fist branded temple. Not bad. Of course only if it can be purged of evil, as Anna has said, otherwise Pru might get her wish to burn the place to the ground.
Anna starts trying to come up with a few plans. There aren't any sacred groves nearby that she knows of. It might mean a journey away from Wedding City to get to one. She starts coming up with plans as well for infiltrating the caverns by being a dead-ringer for the dead-priestess.
There's still that fishing trip. Sure, it might be the wrong direction - the party certainly have a different lead - but still, it's an opportunity to relax for a little while and do something peaceful (provided Anna doesn't turn into some sort of enormous underwater predator and catch all the fish herself).

I'll go tell the sailor that something has come up and we need to postpone our fishing trip. In the meantime, let's get this stuff stashed away and haul these bodies to the authorities. I don't really care if you want to question their spirits or not. They didn't show as evil so they have no real cause to hold back any information. DM RobC - "Are we wrapped up here?" Friday September 25th, 2020 3:30:07 AM
There is more discussion about the loot. Mmmmm. Loot.
There's also the 'what now?' discussion. It seems almost universally agreed that having a rest now is wise. Pru knew what she meant, but there may have been some misunderstanding along the way as to where she was going to cast the mansion spell.
Nikolai lays out some plans: 1. Go tell the sailor about postponing the fishing trip. 2. Stash the loot 3. Take the bodies to the authorities 4. Rest
That invisible guy might be a problem. He might be warning others, setting up an ambush somewhere, or who knows what else. Maybe he is packing up and leaving the city? Michael is concerned and has some thoughts about it, though Anna suspects there may be a way to turn it to the groups advantage. Both favor resting though.

However, my Hat of Disguise might be a better choice as there is no time limit on its functioning and you save a spell slot for something else. Just a thought."
Nikolai scribbles a note stating, Due to a series of unfortunate events, this temple to Maabe has been temporarily closed for service. Please check with the mayor for a future reopening. Sorry for the inconvenience.
He signs it Mailed Fist.
Trayvin AC 30/12 touch Hp 106/161(BrianZ) Friday September 25th, 2020 10:24:28 PM Pru, that is a good idea. Better than showing up at the local constable and having to explain why we are dropping off bodies.

Even if none of that happens we still get some good info on the layout of the cave. .

Sigvar sighs. " Yes Michael, that might work. But let us assume that our opponent knows us. How often do we let little things slip like not stepping on our kills and checking them after a battle? Her was here to see her get double fireballed and go form priestess to charcoal brickette. He left because he was out of allies to support." " Could it get Anna inside, it might. But it would quickly turn from Anna being a mole to Anna being surrounded by folks that mean her ill and that's not a position I want to put Anna in.The variables of how many bad guys and what caliber they might be is just to wide. I am cocky about my own ability to survive against long odds but these guys KNEW how we fight. They were prepared for our thick armor and Haste and spellcasters by silencing them from the word go. Then we messed up by not staying and working together. They put me down, almost got Nikolai, almost got Pompous and almost got you down too. Much too close to a fail on our side. I am hoping this was the Dragon's Alpha Team and the rest of his goons are not going to be as well prepared, but I can't bet on that." He looks at the corpses and then at Nikolai. " Are we prepared for the authorities? They may not take kindly to a team of mercenaries standing in the remains of the most opulent temple in town saying, 'they swung first and then we just killed them wholesale'. There will be questions and inquiries that I know we can pass, but those are going to take time. Time enough for the Dragon to pick up Palance and take her somewhere else. Also remember that we have no commanding officer to vouch for us if they go asking at the Citadel. I am more than willing to face the law here about this fight, but I think doing so right now will be counter productive. Just my 2 copper."

Anna says, "Yes my plan was to sow confusion in their ranks by suggesting that the invisible guy was the one being dishonest. Sigvar does have a point though. We all could have handled that last battle better. I still think now that we are in a more urban location I should take Alter Self as my Queen's daily blessing for being able to change shape at will rather than Beast Shape 1. With my superior disguise capability and at will Alter Self I could show up as anyone anywhere. I guess the thing to be worried about with the bodies is did the dragon cult infiltrate any of the local officials here or is it just this temple of Ma'ab? If the local officials are involved in the cult activity then they could keep us busy here with bureaucracy while the rest of the cult abscond with the commander. I also have other bad news. I don't think I can receive an update blessing from Eberyon as I have not yet been to a sacred grove for a day of quiet meditation but fear not his blessing would mostly augment my non-combat abilities minus the duration of my morphamancy. Next time though we face opponents that can trip I think I'm just going to try to trip them back with my verdant vine."

Nikolai answers Michael, "Well, maybe I didn't get the gist of the impersonation, but either way, it is a most dangerous undercover spying attempt. That would mean Anna in there alone? I just don't like the idea. It's just too risky. Especially if the boss requires some type of lie detecting test."
Nikolai answers Sigvar, "Indeed, the authorities might not like what happened here, but we are the Mailed Fist and Nikolai's Thumb has already dealt with them in the past clearing up an issue with smuggled Mailed Fist equipment. Besides, we don't have to stick around for an inquiry. We just leave a note at the town hall directing the town guard to check this temple out and leave town. We can deal with any explanations when we get back, hopefully with proof of the scam.
So, as time is crucial, let's be out of here in less than five minutes. Gather up this stuff and let's be off. We'll stop a city guard on our way out and tell him to send a squad to shut the temple. He won't stop us to ask why because we won't give him the chance. Pru can convince him to 'hurry' on."
Nikolai snatches up one of the monk robes and a belt of giant strength.
"Time to Bug-out!"
DM Warren - "Inviso Guy" Monday September 28th, 2020 2:51:26 PM
With several new pieces of equipment and some new powers to boot, The Agents seem better prepared to complete their rescue mission. And they certainly need to be, since it seems fighting an old enemy meant that he could prepare for their fighting style and exploit what few weaknesses they possessed.
The remainder of the loot can be sold in Wedding City before or after the body drop. The city guard is a bit confuzzled at suddenly having a surfeit of bodies for the morgue, though the bigger shock is the false priestess that had been subverting the functions of the Temple of Maab. It seems that they will do some investigation while the Agents are about their business.
During their shopping trip, they determine best courses of action for scouting and infiltration, though the escaped foe does complicate things a bit. If they plan to send in one person undercover, they'll need a good escape plan.
The trail leads off to the North....

Nikolai takes a quick trip to the docks to inform their sailor fishing guide that their trip will need to be postponed. Returning, he finds the guards starting to investigate the events at the temple and the Fist wandering whether to take a rest or head straight onwards to the caves.
"Once we start into the caves, there'll be no rest, so we take the rest now. However, not in town. We head out of town in a different direction from the caves and see if anyone follows. If so, we catch 'em and interrogate 'em. We then double back towards the caves.
Near the caves, we take our rest.
As far as the catacombs go, I guess we have time. I'll take a Belt of Giant Strength +4, Ring of Protection +3, and a Monk Robe.
As mush as I could really use the tome, the cash (110K gp) will be better used for your needs. Let's make this snappy, we don't got all day."

Nikolai is firm, "You'll not go in alone. However, using my Hat of Disguise I can go in with you as a 'faithful' servant that found you alive and brought you back to 'health' enough to get back here. Your disguise will need to include some 'wounds' and 'blood' to make it more convincing. And a lot of bandages. We can discuss those details later.
But that only puts two in there. So let's see what else we can think of."
DM Warren - "Let's make this snappy" Tuesday September 29th, 2020 2:56:50 PM
Lucky for Pru, no one expects to fight a dragon today, so there's plenty of time to heal up the rest of everyone's bruises, ouchies, and booboos.
Speed is still key though, and no one wants to delay rescuing K.C. Palance. However, some new gear may make all the difference in fighting the dragon and his very capable followers. They quickly offload their loot and give an update to the boatman, then get on the road.
They make their way out of town, but even Michael's keen senses can detect no one following them, so they head back to the route that seems to lead to some caves to the north of town. As night begins to fall, they choose a spot far enough away that any lookouts won't be likely to see them summon their mansion, and settle down to camp for the night and hash out the details of their infiltration.
Prudence Gundle Tuesday September 29th, 2020 4:10:02 PM
Pru casts the Magnificent Mansion. This time, she avoids both trees and ducks, and everybody's window overlooks a flowery meadow with a little brook running through it.
Pru is able to get healed and refresh her spells, so her player will (finally!) be able to start the leveling-up process.

Nikolai asks Pompous if he can recharge the Staff of Healing any. "Only if you have any spell energy left after all the healing. I don't want you to use any of your divine energy tomorrow as we'll need everything for the caves."
Nikolai looks out the window of his room and just hope there's no bunnies out there.
DM Warren - "Duck, Weave, Rest, Heal" Wednesday September 30th, 2020 5:21:24 PM
Pru creates the most relaxing scene she can imagine, but perhaps it only reminds Anna that she cannot make it to her worship. Anna's power is waiting to burst forth, but she cannot quite open herself up to it yet. Pru wakes up inspired though, and finds new arcane power at her fingertips.
Sigvar renews his prayers, knowing that his weapon will need to serve him well today.
Trayvin rests up after expending his power to bring the Agents back up to fighting form. Despite the recent difficult battle, he trusts that they will overcome any obstacles in their way, as they always do.
Pompous rests up and feels especially limber upon waking.
Nikolai remembers to grab a little extra divine energy for the staff before resting and sings a little song to ward off visions of bunnies.
I had said that you could do a quick run by the Catacombs - there's certainly an outlet in Wedding City to use
The Agents sleep soundly, and though they waken with fresh worry for their commander, they are sure that they will rescue her soon. Their map shows the way to an entrance concealed in the cliff face, but gives no clues as to what awaits them inside.
