Mak saw Tsak go down and moved (S27) quickly, but the slippery footing made him slide and grab hold of the rock formation at his right. As he did so the arrow went wild and slammed into the roof of the cave. Down on one knee Mak clutched at his leg as the pain from his old injury made everything else fade in his mind. Through all the pain he reached forward to pull Tsak out of the water and away from the ghoul as soon as he could.

DM Mark - "Tsak, what are you doing laying there!" d4+3=4 ; Tuesday September 29th, 2020 2:02:04 PM Elyas gestures and speaks arcane words of power as missiles composed of pure force sink deeply into the ghoul’s grey flesh before they vanish. Kiwina moves up and attacks, sinking his trident into the thing. It screams in pain. Rolth lashes out with his glave, cleaving the creature twice, killing it with his first blow and making sure with his second. Tzak falls paralyzed in the shallow water, unable to move. Esmerelda gives him a look and then shifts to stand guard over her fallen friend. Mak sees his friend fall, but holds his shot as Rolth has already killed it. Falco steps over as healing energy washes over everyone.
As things calm down, the loudest sound is Rolth’s enraged breathing. But as you listen, you hear some faint growls and yips echoing through these chambers, sounds you did not hear before, sounds that are almost drowned out by the waterfall behind you. The sounds seem to be echoing from both passages - to the east and the south. Six dead bodies are now piled up here. Yech.
And speaking of drowned, someone might want to make sure Tsak’s face is out of the water.

If the growls don't seem too close, Rolth will drop his rage for now. He'll listen carefully to see whether the growls are coming closer. If so, he tiredly suggests, "Maybe we should set up on each entrance, positioning so that only one can emerge at a time, but several of us can engage each one. The shooters and casters can stay in the middle, able to strike where needed. It saddens me to treat these former taurs so roughly, but I see no way around it. Anyone have any idea how long Tsak is going to be out of action?"
If the ghouls are approaching and the Petals agree to his plan, Rolth will position himself at T/U-27/28 and cast a mirror image on himself before they arrive.

3 Mak makes sure Tsak doesn’t drown (sorry I missed that.) He’s very worried about his friend. Kiwina holds his position. Tzak lays there, grateful for Falco’s healing and Mak’s ministrations. Falco again heals his friends. Elyas casts webbing down the nearer, more narrow passage. Rolth listens carefully to the noises in caverns. To his trained ear, these seem to him to be the sounds a liontaur might make, but they’re not...right. There is no intelligible speech, just low grunts and growls. They dont’s suggest fighting or pain. They seem to be quieting down a bit, but he does not think they are getting closer or farther. Rolth moves up a bit and casts a spell. (Forgive me for changing Rolth’s move, but were we at a table this would be more coordinated, so I gave you the benefit of the doubt on this.)
Except for some occasional grunts or whines and a splash or dripping sound in the distance, all is quiet. The moist air holds the smell of death … and something else that’s hard to place.
Go ahead and take three rounds of actions. Kindly keep track of your spell durations. And I encourage you to read each other’s posts before you post/move.

Kiwina is trying to see what he can from his angle, too. (Perception = 34)

DM Mark - Where's Tsak? d20=13 ; d100=82 ; Tuesday October 6th, 2020 9:31:20 PM Rolth makes a couple of attacks, and with the second swing of his mace, the creature falls! Falco moves in to get a better position. Kiwina cast Flare, and a sudden burst of light causes a few surprised cries from creatures around the corner to the north. Mak nochs an arrow, but holds his shot as he sees Rolth’s foe fall. Elyas casts Haste on everyone. Tzak stands ready with Esmerelda by his side. (I posted before you, so move Tsak up if you wish before your next move.)
Rolth is the only one that can see them, but some more liontaur ghouls are briefly lit in the distance by the flare. They seem to pause and pull back a bit from the bright light. Everyone hears their howls at the Flare.

Falco offers to cast Light on Mak in a way that’s most helpful. (I’ll assume Mak has light cast on a shoulder piece of his armor unless I hear otherwise.) Kiwina and Elyas wait for the tentacles to do their work.
They do not have to wait long. The two remaining ghoul die horribly. And even though they are dead, the mindless tentacles continue to grapple and squeeze all the ghoul bodies. Some begin to have certain fluids and solids squeezed out of them. The smell gets worse.
There is a low growling and whining coming from up ahead, unseen.

The light emanating from Mak's left shoulder seemed to help the man quite a bit as he moved forward ahead of the group. with those noises ahead I am sure that was not the last of these we will see. if needed I can do that little trick a couple more times today, so don't range too far ahead. wouldn't want you to get grabbed by one of those lovelies
DM Mark - More Ghouls! Wednesday October 14th, 2020 7:51:48 PM
There is some discussion about what to do next. The party resolves to wait to see if anything happens in the next two rounds. There is some growling and whining from unseen foes, and the tentacles continue to squeeze the dead bodies - which is pretty gross. But nothing else happens.
Then Elyas dismisses the tentacles, and there is a rush as more ghouls run forward. (Not sure how Mak wound up where the tentacles were, so feel free to place him where he would be.)
Feel free to move yourself to where you would have moved during those two rounds before the Black Tentacles spell was dismissed. The DM will assume any ranged attackers would have readied a standard action against the expected ghouls as they rush up, so go ahead and take a single attack action as appropriate, and then take your full round of actions as well. This excludes Elyas since he could not have readied an action.

(I took the liberty of adding to the map and moving everyone up. I generally avoid moving your PCs, but I’m trying to balance that with keeping things moving.)
As the party creeps forward the depth of water varies from a few inches to a foot or two in places. You walk past the webbing that Elyas created. Arrows flew down the passageway and zipped past each of the frogmen except for the first one and Mak dropped that enemy quickly enough. It helped that he had gotten an attack a moment before when he turned the corner. The frogmen closed however and started taking swipes at the archer, but he was quick and managed to avoid the claws of the second in line as he stood over the body of his associate.
Mak was going to draw his shortsword due to the close quarters, but he felt the familiar surge of speed in his actions that told him Elyas had come to the rescue once more.
"May your god bless you!" Mak called out to the wizard as he brought his bow up and loaded the first arrow.
He had been careful as he ducked about, but with the aid of Elyas he was emboldened and took more careful aim at the frogmen in front of him. His first arrow was dead center on the beast, as was his third, the second and fourth arrow was lost to him in the darkness as he threw himself to one side to avoid the nasty swipe of a claw.

Thanks Kiwina, I'm going to have to learn how to do that too.
Noticing that the corridor is only wide enough for Rolth and Kiwina to stand side by side Tsak realises that his sword will be of limited value. He sheathes it, picks up his bow and loads it before moving to (AH10) the side of the tunnel where he can peek around the corner but not inhibit the two taurs.
Noticing that Elyas and Falco have a bit of catching up to do Tsak reaches into his backpack for some jerky, giving some to Esmerelda and chewing on a hearty portion himself as he keeps watch to the north (Perception).

Mak fell quiet for a minute while Kiwina tended to him and seemed to hear what Rolth has mentioned a moment before. Bugs? Spiders? Mak hated vermin.
"Thanks Kiwina" Mak said as the wounds on his face and arm became less red and inflamed looking. He still had the blood from the wounds on his clothing and equipment, but that would wash off soon enough.
"Rolth old bean, if you don't mind I'll take the middle for a time, but if you need some relief let me know and I'll take lead."

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (51/57 HP | AC:18 Touch: 12 CMD: 23) Monday October 26th, 2020 7:23:57 PM
Rolth looks around with pleasure as his companions pull together to move on into the tunnels. All but Elyas, who he waves forward before something bad happens to him all alone back there...
(OOC: Updated header to account for healing; Ben via email asked me to move Elyas up for him.)
DM Mark - Mostly Quiet Monday October 26th, 2020 8:59:30 PM Mak drinks a healing potion to offset some of the damage. Rolth feels fatigue wash over him as his battle rage subsides. He moves forward carefully, listening. It seems to Rolth that the sounds he hears from from up ahead and to the east. Kiwina moves up as well, and heals Tsak and Mak. Tzak says the chittering he hears sounds like some sort of laughter to him. The sound echoes in this place, but seems to be coming from the north and then east of where you are. Falco channels some healing to all, and then heals Tsak even more. Elyas move forward with the others.
All is quiet beyond an occasional chittering.
Perception DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: {You barely hear a low clicking voice, the same one that was making the chittering sound, say in common “Soon, soon”}
Anticipating that the party will move forward, those with darkvision will look into a large cavern to the west. That large cavern seems quiet beyond the occasional drips that fall to the water covering the floor in that room. Tell me how long it will take you to move near the white are on the map, and where you go and what you do in that time.

Mak tried to keep pace with Kiwina and Rolth and eventually caught up to them when they slowed in the larger cavern. He took a position between them and brought up the arrow he'd been carrying in his hand since it wouldn't fit in his quiver as that container was full. The circumstance worried him as it meant he would soon be out of ammunition and without his bow he felt he'd be letting his companions down. There was no way he'd be as effective as Rolth with all his claws and fangs as he threw around that flail.
OOC: Perception +5, Roll 23.
Mak simply couldn't make out the words Rolth heard, all he heard was the chittering, so when Rolth issued his warning Mak slowed and tried to be quiet as he huffed and winced with each step.

DM Mark - "They know we are coming, be ready." d20=11 ; d20=13 ; Tuesday October 27th, 2020 9:34:56 PM Rolth shares that he heard the chittering voice say in common, “Soon, soon,” surmising that something knows you’re coming.
The party advances, some quietly, some not so much. You begin to hear a low, repetitive droning, almost like a chant of some sort, in that burbling voice those frog-like things used. As you come up a large room comes into view for some, but even Tsak’s Darkvision only goes so far.
And as you splash forward, you hear a voice in the darkness. It’s from up ahead, but you’re not sure exactly where. The strange, chittering voice, he says, “Ahhhhhh. Hhhave you cccome to offfer yourselves, to offfer what you have, to the Ddddeep? There is knnnowledge in the Dddeep, anddd ittt is awakkkening. Join usss, rrrule with usss. Water drips, and there are a few echoes of sloshing sounds - perhaps your own. It’s otherwise quiet here - and not in a good way. In a creepy way.

Elyas moves up as far as he can (which isn't much in the water). the light shining off of his dagger extends a little ways past Rolth and Kiwina, but not very far.
as he moves closer he hears the monologue of whatever creature lies beyond the light, and he just rolls his eyes. that's real deep, friend. but I deeply regret to inform you that you have made a grave mistake challenging us. you're in deep trouble now, facing the Eight-Petaled Rose. you should ponder deeply whether you want to proceed with this foolishness, or if you want to just give in now. fight us and we will bury you. "It seems, old bean, that we have a group of creatures truly dedicated to the 'Deep', whatever that is. They are quite taken with the idea and Elyas thinks it humorous. So we've been given a moment it seems to sort out our intentions to this Deep idea thing. Me? I'm going to turn whatever is up ahead into a pincushion.
