The group talks some more, with the occasional nudge from Virgil, over the next couple of days. Most of them seem to want to return to help Rattledam. Some of them would like to see the Harvester bazaar first. There's no particular rush.
In the evening, as the group is gathering for supper, they hear shouts in the distance.

Although the Sentinels set off as soon as they can, it takes several minutes to get to the grove.
As they approach the grove, they see a giant badger transforming back into Virgil.
When they arrive, they find several wounded villagers. The boards that had been cut for the boat are partially buried under a mound of dirt. Nearby is a hole that the dirt obviously came from.
"No one's been seriously hurt, thank Maab." Virgil tells the group, "but I want to know who did this! They ran off that way" -- he points southwest. "I hurt one of them pretty good."

Caelwyn looks at the wounded villagers, then off in the direction Virgil pointed. Anger smolders in his blue-grey eyes. "Don't worry, Virgil. We will find whoever did this and bring them to justice, with Domi's help!" He immediately hefts his shield and trident and heads southwest at a brisk pace.

Haemir runs in to the clearing panting a little, before realising he's out of breath because Fand was hitching a free ride on his shoulder: "Fand, scout ahead with Aewen if she.. Er he? wants, you're faster than us, circle overhead but stay out of bow range just incase"!
Fand takes to the air: "Come Aewen let us hunt together" she says in common (it doesn't even strike her the eagle may not understand her). Haemir takes off after Caelwyn feeling the same anger as the paladin.

Grindar barely slows down, only slowing long enough to hear that an enemy attacked and is on the run, before turning on the steam again. He considers sending Llew ahead, but is afraid the lion's lack of experience fighting in the Sargrass may be lethal to the big cat. In the end Grindar opts to keep his feline friend close at hand and continues to run at full speed (4X movement=80ft)

Did someone try to sabotage the druid wood? Genyielt's wood? The thing about 'Lil is that she's got serious anger issues. She spent years with Domi's holy men learning to control it, to unleash it when appropriate and against them who deserved it.
Whoever did this deserves it.
She doesn't slow down. She can't run as fast as some others can fly, but she runs for all she's worth. She's gonna have to rely on her friends up there for eyes. All she can do is run, so that's what she does.
Her vision turns red as she chases down whatever it was that started all this.

The Sentinels run off, except for Akuno, who stays long enough to ask a question and cast a spell.
"I did the burrowing -- best way to put out flames here on the plains."
The party proceeds at a brisk pace while they're in the fields, but most of them slow considerably once they reach the grasses.
Thorondir reaches the grasses first, where he finds signs of a medium humanoid resting. Following the trail will require a survival check and will slow him down. He, Aewen, and Fand can fly above the grasses.
Grindar and Bigby can move through the grasses at their normal speed. Caelwyn, 'Lil, Sol, Akuno, and Haemir are reduced to moving at half their normal speed.

'Lil resolves to find some way to stop trudging through the Sargrass. This whole moving at half speed in the stifling heat was old weeks ago. She don't know how, but she's gotta find something. In the meantime, she just keeps moving fast as she's able.

Because Grindar is slowed while following the tracks, Caelwyn, 'Lil, Sol, Akuno, and Haemir are able to keep up with him. Bigby and Wolfgang may race out ahead later, but at the moment are also following Grindar. As, of course, does Llew.
Thorondir loses the tracks as he flies above the grass, while Aewen and Fand climb to get a better view from above. They get further than the ground crew.
Aewen and Fand sense a presence in the air with them -- a disortion where the winds are different, and it's upon them almost before they realize it's there.

Grindar keeps moving forward, trying to follow the enemies tracks (Survival 33), When he hears they may have an aerial enemy, he keeps his eyes one the skies, as well as the ground. If he sees an enemy, (perception 30) depending on whether it's in range for a javelin or Bwyell, he will attack with the appropriate weapon, and miss in epic style. (nat 1)

Aewen decides to evade whatever's in the air, while Fand stays to fight. Thorondir heads up to help Fand. Thorondir can't make out what Fand is fighting, but there is clearly something going on. It will take Thorondir and Aewen at least another round to arrive where Fand is.
Fand: Make a two DC 12 reflex saves -- If the first succeeds, Highlight to display spoiler: {Fand gets tossed by the wind but suffers no damage.} If the first fails but the second succeeds, Highlight to display spoiler: {Fans takes 3 points of damage from buffeting winds.} If both fail, Highlight to display spoiler: {Fand takes 3 points of damage from buffeting winds and is caught in a small whirlwind as it drags him away from his friends. }

Haemir is not able to see whats happening to Fand. He knows Fand feels bewildered and under attack.

The remainder of the group follows Grindar to the point where he sees a face leering at him from 15' up in the grasses ahead. He throws his javelin -- badly. No one else had seen either, but when Grindar's javelin goes nearly straight up and then back down among his friends, the laughter from two little humanoids effectively prevents them from hiding any more.

The creatures are ugly little things with big, pointy ears, clinging to the grasses above the reach of most weapons (and still several feet away, anyway).
Until further notice, those fighting on the ground should roll three times every time they roll a d20. That is, if your character makes an attack at +5, make 3 attacks at +5 before determining damage. Same for saving throws and skill checks.

Fand is buffeted and squawks (reflex Sv:11) trying to rake her abuser (claw:12 - 6 dmg). Then her eyes bulge as she feels something surround her and a blue feather is tugged out (reflex Sv:23). Managing to shake free she plummets downwards heading towards Thorondir. Her cry of shock turns in to words (in common): "Aiiiiieeeir Elemental I reckons - probably right on ma tail-feathers".
Unable to see much Haemir lowers his crossbow and moves to catch up with the party. Just in time to see an incoming javelin...

She beats her fist hard into her chest where Domi's symbol is tattooed, then pulls a big glowing warhammer out. She hurls it at the closest one. First attack ain't much, but it'll keep attacking while 'Lil closes the distance.

Grindar cringes in disgust and worry as his javelin somehow heads strait towards Lil. and he feels even worse when he sees it make it past her armor (Hit AC 22) and sticking in her back. (Lil takes 11 damage) In his frustration, he moves forward and attacks the bottom enemy with a overhand chop with Bwyell. Meanwhile, Llew moves forward and attempts to bite the same enemy.

Sol, seeing the party burst into action, also prepares himself, and speaks the words of power and makes the gestures that he's done hundreds of times before, and in front of him forms two arrows, of pure force energy, the tell-tale sign of his particular brand of Magic Missile being almost like a heat haze with a slightly bluish-white tint.
He smiles as he indicates the creature Lil did not attack, and watches as the Missiles fly to their target unerringly and impact it with soft thuds.

Thorondir and Aewen fly with all haste towards the air elemental as Fand flies towards them. Once he is within 35 feet he will caste summon natures ally II, bringing an air elemental to fight the one already summoned.

Akuno looks about, terribly unsure of herself. People are fighting in the air, Grimnar is stabbing Lil, ugly gnomes are being mean, and there's a screaming parrot to top it all off. She gives her unseen servant a squeeze, and then tosses it aside for now. Who to help?
Grindar and Llew would have trouble reaching the little monsters on the grass. Caelwyn had a bow but it wasn't his preferred method of fighting. 'Lil" though, she could probably reach with her spear! So Akuno hauls her servant behind her and trudges after Lil. "Ney! Ney! 'Lil!", she shouts. "Stab it! Stab it dead! Its making me feel funny! She touches 'Lil briefly on the small of her back. Much less of a shove than last time.
Move: Akuno and Unseen servant move up behind Lil. Standard: Akuno uses Touch of Destiny, 'Lil gets +2 to attack rolls, skill checks, saving throws, and ability checks for 1 round.

Fand escapes and makes her way to Thorondir and Aewen. They do not see or sense anything in their immediate vicinity now. Although Fand never say the thing, it was definitely easy to sense when it was close. Thorondir summons an air elemental to fight with them.

The ground battle is chaotic. After Grindar's javelin hit 'Lil, the little munchkins seemed delighted. They toyed with Grindar and Llew, who hit each other in attempting to go after the one creature (12 points to Llew, 5 to Grindar). They taunted 'Lil as her spiritual hammer went speeding towards Akuno -- but Akuno was well enough protected that she wasn't hurt.
But then Sol casts a magic missile, which the creatures find not amusing at all. Their mood immediately changes. When Caelwyn sends an arrow their way, it flies straight at Sol -- who fortunately is also well protected.
Akuno grants 'Lil a magical boost. Bigby prepares his crossbow.
One of the little men gestures, and In the air above the party several dozen humans appear -- all strongly resembling Sol -- and rain down on the group. As it works out, they do no damage because there is no substance to them. But when the "Sol storm" is over, the munchkins are gone.

'Lil gasps as Grindar's spear stabs her. She knows it ain't his fault. She knows it's these things they're fighting, but pain does stuff to yer head. She grips the spear's shaft and pulls it free, then drops it. She's angry, but forces herself to channel that towards these stupid creatures, not Grindar.
Then a bunch of Sols rain down and they vanish. "This is stupid. Are these things tryin' to accomplish something or just having a laugh?" She can't see nothin' to attack, so she channels positive energy to take the sting off the stab wound. Maybe it's cuz she's angry, but the channel does the trick. The wound's completely closed. "Well, thank Domi for small miracles." She wants to get ready to stab these things, but can't risk it. "Sol, how many'a those magic missiles you got?"

They seem mostly frightened of the party. Even though they've been spotted, they are continuing to hide as if maybe Grindar won't see then if they don't admit to seeing him.
Haemir discovers with his spell that the creatures are still where they were -- clinging to the grasses above the party. Haemir is, however, the only one who sees them.
Caelwyn positions himself to protect Sol, giving up on missiles for the moment.
'Lil takes the oportunity to channel some healing. Since she was not the only one injured, she's sure it was well received.
Bigby isn't sure what to make of all this.
Thorondir diverts his elemental to attack the grasses where the munchkins were.
In the aerial combat, the party's assailant makes a fly by attack on Fand. It misses. Fand may attempt AoO against it.

Come here, hide behind me, and I'll protect you. he quickly casts speak with animals, and tells Llew to keep an eye on the little dog faced dudes, assuming they take him up on his offer. Grindar will then move to 8,f and command Llew to take a 5ft step to 10,h. Assuming that the munchkin Haemir fairy fired was the one in front of him, and since no one is within striking distance , Grindar will attempt to hit the Munchkin at 9,f

Haemir lets everyone know the muchkin creatures haven't moved, and illuminates one of them with faerie fire. Grindar notices the two frightened, dog-faced dudes, offering to protect them; but then he splits open the munchkin between him and the the dog-faces. 'Lil takes Haemir at his word about where the creature are, and swings although Haemir was only able to reveal one of them. The swings fails to connect. Thorondir casts entangle at an elevation to affect the upper reaches of the grasses without capturing his friends at ground level. Akuno gives 'Lil another magical boost, a bit confused by what's going on. Sol casts a ray of frost at what he can see, which right now are the dog-faced creatures.
The dog-faced creatures react badly to the attack right in front of them, each emitting an ear-splitting howl that sends shivers down everyones' spines. The creatures then turn and run away, but they are pitifully slow creatures.
The remaining munchkin falls down beside Caelwyn, where it takes a few swipes at him as it floats inches above the ground. Caelwyn is hit once for 1 point of damage.
If your character has crystal or ceramic items that are not protected inside of a soft-bodied container, let me know. These items may suffer some damage.
The grasses in the area around the Sentinels start twisting and wrapping themselves around. The effect is not limited to the upper reaches of the grass, and the characters at ground level find themselves in need of DC:12 reflex saving throws.
Fand attempts to fight back but misses. Then as Fand returns to the group, he is attacked again, taking 5 points of damage from the winds.

(Reflex Sv:19) Haemir manages to side-step the entanglement and taking a thorn from his pouch begins an incantation. Suddenly a dense mass of angry flying insects sweeps from the grass to engulf (still invisible?) munchkin 1. The hornets swarm, buzz and sting before dispersing.
Meanwhile Fand slots into the perfect thermal and spreads her wings, gliding offers her a moment of respite to breathe and take stock - which is hard (she concludes) when you're being attacked by something you can only see when it's on top of you! Her brief moment of peace is broken however, when below her the grass suddenly begins twisting and writhing and tendril-like vines curl in upon themselves and sprout out like hungry, green, silent, worms.
'Man those druids sure are creepy...' she says before shuddering and flapping. Looking around again (Perception:13) the wind smashes in to her and sends her spiraling, barrel rolling till she eventually regains her composure. It sure looked like it was gonna be one of them days...

Please don't run, let us protect you, and possibly mend your wounds." (Diplomacy 14) Llew also makes his save, and stays by his masters side, as Grindar heads toward the dog faced dudes (21)

Many of the Sentinels avoid the entangling grasses but do not leave the area. By remaining in the area, they must save again at the end of their turn (DC:12). Further, given the size of the spell and the effect that the Sargrass has on movement, it is likely to take considerable time to escape. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.
Caelwyn and Haemir cut down the remaining munchkin.
The dog-faced creatures continue fleeing, but have been reduced to a crawl in the circumstances.
Fand no longer senses her aerial attacker. Perhaps she or Thorondir's elemental have dealt with it.

Haemir slings his crossbow over his shoulder and extricates himself from the entangled grass by the shortest method he can (Reflex Sv:18) before cautiously skirting around the edge: "I'll see if I can get in front of them" he says as he considers what manner of creature they are (Knowledge-Dungeoneering:24). "Let's not harm them unless we really have to". He suggests as he and takes an apple out of his bag and holds it out as a gesture of good will.

Once again, he offers his apology for the ice attack from Sol, and asks them to stop, claiming they have no desire to hurt them, and that they just want to talk. (diplomacy 16)

The dog-faced creatures seeing that they are surrounded by folk larger, faster, and a lot more deadly than they are drop to the ground, roll onto their backs, and pee a little bit, they simper and whine looking for all the world like the worlds ugliest chihuahua when faced with a big dog that its snarling cannot intimidate.
still everyone who is within 20' of the creatures must continue to roll any attacks, saving throws and ability checks three times and take the lowes roll.

As you are communing with the dog faced pugwampi, everybody hears a sound, the call of a wolf, lonesome and forlorn but strangely clear even through the forest of grass. as you look around Bigby who has been strangely quiet of late, is looking towards where it came from. he turns to look at the group.

With Haemir translating, Grindar says to his friends, do we follow the druids, or return to let Virgil know about this Cecil guy and his fellow druids? I for one would like Virgil's input, before running into a possible trap, but am happy to push on if that is every ones desire.
When the wolf howling begins and Bigby translates what it means, with a tear on his eye, Grindar rushes over to his friend and gives him a big bear hug, picking the beast folk of the ground. "You take care of yourself brother! The hunts won't be the same without you, but your people need you, and you finally have a chance to meet them!"

Fand takes to the air and begins scouting again: "Shall we see if we can catch us some bad druids? "Yeah he's injured, let's catch him before he rejoins his companions and heals up. If we don't find him then we can then return to Virgil" he looks around and scratches his head "Erm witch way Grindar"? As an afterthought he adds: "What do we do with pugwampi"?

Hearing the wolf howls, Thorondir casts speak with animals to understand it. He replies in a series of howls translated to be: "Bigby, you and Wolfgang have been true companions and I will miss you. You are needed elsewhere, and the pack is the most important. The strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack. You are needed, but always welcome back. Thanks my friend, safe journeys."
Looking around, in common Thorondir says: "If we are chasing druids they have the capacity to leave no trace. Unless the blood leaves a trail, there will be no finding them. Bigby and Wolfgang are gone, can Llew follow a blood scent?"

Grindar doesn't have a preference as to what to do with the Pugwampi. He figures he kept his promise, and they are safe now. they can do as they will. "OK Llew, time to put that nose to work!" but of course Llew seems easily distracted, as he starts sniffing at a dragon fly (survival 5) Grindar forces himself to keep calm, as he reminds his friend that they are on a mission. After a quick consultation the adventurers set the Pugwampi free and they quickly flee cheering and whooping, clearly happy to be alive.
Thorondir, Aewen and Fand take to the sky and a quick scout ahead by the air posse reveals their prey must have a formidable head start as they're nowhere to be seen! Unfortunately, the tall grass makes the little drips of blood here and there very difficult to spot and without any scent ability it becomes impossible to follow by air. However Aerial reconnaissance does have its perks as the trio are able to direct the party around some of the thicker areas of grass (and something big-n-nasty feeding) before they become problems and thus maintain the sentinel's momentum.
Despite the lack of any tracks whatsoever Llew has a firm scent and the odd drop of blood here and there confirms that the party is on target. ----
The day draws on. It's hot and humid (as usual) and sweat starts to trickle as the pace doesn't ease up. As the hours mount a few water breaks are needed (using Lil's handy haversack and straws - enough of you can create water). A while later Thorondir rejoins the party on foot (when his wild shape expires). Despite being able to flow around the grass with an uncanny grace even the druid has to slow down for the rest of the party.
After a while the blood trail expires but Llew doesn't seem perturbed in the slightest and leads the party on. Is the albino-like lion grinning?
Several more hours pass and limbs begin to ache and the constant vigilance of looking out for sharp grass, things that may try to kill you and the heat begins to take a toll. The sky begins to darken but clearly the twisted-fire-starting-druid-villain isn't stopping. Haemir although he doesn't seem unfit is lagging a bit but managing to keep up (just). Akuno is probably the only one not sweating (due to her uncanny ability to look and more importantly 'feel' cool).
Darkness sets in and those with darkvision/torches(?) help and assist but as it reaches midnight and limbs become stiff and aching the question arises - how much further? Llew paws the ground indicating he still has the scent and is raring to go! If anything be seems even more excited.
The question remains - do you push on through the night? As the party stops for a breather and perhaps to discuss this Llew gives Grindar a nudge, bumping against his thigh, realising he's trying to tell the half-orc something a use of speak with animals (from Grindar/anyone) will reveal: Highlight to display spoiler: {"Llew enjoy loooong hunt no done since before meet frriend. Man no bleed but still smell wound. Llew mighty Hunterr smell not get strronger or weakerr. We move same speed. More than one man-smell." - if questioned Llew indicates that the smell separated here for a minute. Maybe they stopped to dress the wound or drink some water you guess? The fact they stood apart allowed Llew to differentiate the scent - there are two of them. One wounded - one maybe not? Difficult to say.} Anyone who knows anything about animals can see Llew is clearly having the time of his life! Slightly panting, tongue hanging out, eyes ablaze with the excitement of the hunt! You probably haven't seen him so excited.
Thorondir (being a druid) and Sol (being highly knowledgeable and probably one of the smartest people many of you know) Highlight to display spoiler: {You realise a druids connection with nature should allow him to out-pace the party easily, so it stands to reason that the druids wound must be slowing him down. More importantly he must be out of magic or surely he would have just healed himself up and pushed on?! Clearly a stroke of luck - but how long will it last?}
The terrain is difficult - it's been a very hard slog and factoring in very short breaks the party has been travelling most of the day and in to the night (maybe 10-12 hours)! Do you rest up and regain spells or push on like hard-core hunters?
Please note Pushing on now means making a forced march. For each hour of marching a Constitution check (DC 10, +2 per extra hour) is required. If the check fails, you take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. A character who takes any nonlethal damage from a forced march becomes fatigued but eliminating the nonlethal damage also eliminates the fatigue.
If you decide to continue into the night let's deal with the first two hours and see where we are at then... Con checks DC:10 after the first hour & DC:12 the second. (Failure causes the above effects).

As it get dark, Thorondir calls Aewen down to him. "Go back to the grove, tell the druid we are on the hunt. Stay there until I return."
Thorondir agrees to march on. "We must find them, we are close to them I sense. Clearly the druid is wounded and unable to heal, they are depleted. Now is the time for us to strike. Llew says there are two, so be prepared. Perhaps only one is wounded."
After on hour of marching in the dark, Thorondir says "I will take the shape of an owl and search for them from above." Thorondir shape shifts into an owl and silently glides into the sky above.

The first hour Haemir sweats so much he wonders if it classes as a new hobby (fort:15 - success). The second hour (fort:10 = fail, taking 3 pts of dmg) takes even more out of him. But seeing everyone pushing through their pain he feels like an embarrassed wimp. He stops for a second and discreetly casts a cure light wounds on himself. Feeling life return to his limbs he takes a deep breath and pushes on.
He wants to say 'who is this druid? He runs as if the very whips of his master is behind him' but he doesn't have the energy and realises the others may just look at him like he's feeble. Which is exactly how he feels...
Fand is fine for the first hour, but lands on Haemir's shoulder at some point during the second (fails -1 dmg). The elf heals him too.

"A stern chase is a long chase" at least that's what old sailors say. it's even longer when you are hot, footsore, exhausted, and walking through a sea of green grass taller than your head. everyone deals with the urge to stop in their own way. Grindar,Lil, and Caelwynn rely upon the clarity of purpose to push through the pain and temptation to stop. while Thorondir and Haemir use magical means to dispel the creeping weakness and keep resolve stong, While "Sol" relies upon sheer iron will to keep putting one foot in front to the other. Some say that death is a reaper ripping souls from the dying to take them to the lands of rest. but in the dead of night with the pain and gasping for cooler air, you know that death merely asks a question. "do you want to quit?" when the pain gets bad enough everyone eventually says "yes"
Llew tracks like a kitten in a rodent store, his eye alight, and his step sure.
you estimate it's between 1 and 2 AM, I am going to need for each player to roll a Stealth check, because suddenly Llew slows, crouches and begins to creep forward as though his prey is near.

They could not attack without being sure of their target, and they had already been detected anyway, so he calls out to whoever lies ahead, "Attention, whoever you are! We are the Sargrass Sentinels, protectors of New Rattledam. We track an evildoer, so identify your self quickly ere we strike!"
With his shield up, he pushes through the grass to see what is beyond, ready for anything and hoping that his companions are behind him.

Normally he would swing Bwyell at the first thing he sees, but he chooses to see if Caelwyn's diplomatic approach works. Muttering quietly to himself he wretches... First once then a second time. His mouth opens wide and an awful, scuttling mass of legs and mandibles scrambles out writhing. The dark cluster ripples down his body and pours out until the ground is a carpet of swarming spiders each the size of a gold coin and possessing blade-like mandibles capable of lacerating flesh with sickening ease. The swarm of spiders scramble around and over each other beside him as he advances.
As Fand takes to the air he takes out his hand x-bow.

'Lil's sharp ears hear spells being cast, though she'll be darned if she knows what they are. From the corner of her eye she seems Haemir doing something so unspeakable that she forces herself to turn away lest she get an eyeful. There would be time to wonder about that later.
She charges, right on Caelwyn's heels when he opens with words instead of arms. It was the right thing to do, bless the paladin's composure, but not what she wanted to do. She takes her place behind and between her two sturdier dudes, Maya ready to shoot out past them should the opportunity present itself.

Sol, having no idea what is apparently about to attack the Sentinels, is a little confused, however his keen magical knowledge allows him to identify a couple of spells being cast.

However, he doesn't lash out this time, as he waits to see if a target will reveal itself, and be one he should actually be attacking.

The party bursts into the camp. you see a Human and injured Orc and a Satyr, they all are looking bleary eyed and in a defensive stance. They have stomped and cut down a 30' circle in the grass to sleep in. which means that you all are 15' from them.
Caelwynn in the lead. his words strike true and while defensive the men do not immediately attack. Grindar, Lil, and "Sol" stack up with him and hold. It looks like diplomacy may triumph after all.
then Haemir vomits up a bunch of spiders and an Earth elemental hits the Man.
The Satyr yells Bandits! it's a trap! and points at the party Everyone roll a DC 18 will save or be affected by a Fear spell. unless you are immune
Fear: An invisible cone of terror causes each living creature in the area to become panicked unless it succeeds on a Will save. If cornered, a panicked creature begins cowering. If the Will save succeeds, the creature is shaken for 1 round. Panicked: A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. Since I put everyone 15 foot from the encounter you combat rolls do not count this round but hold onto them and I will let you apply them next round when or if the battle is joined. although you may have to apply and -2 modifier to them or you may have to turn tail and run, depending on your Will save.
The injured orc swings at the Earth Elemental with his club. and misses.
The man, caught by surprise by the earth elemental hitting him in the back. rolls to the side and behind to put some distance between himself and the elemental while also putting it and the party in front of him.

Seeing this escalating quickly Haemir shrugs off the fear (Will Sv:18 - phew dead on). He concentrates (guides himself gaining +2 on next skill check).
"Woah..." he says. "Like yourselves we used spells preparing for the worst. Let us all not be foolish now. This can still be dealt with peacefully". (Diplomacy:31).
--- Heamir will try to continue with diplomacy but if they ignore him or attack the spiders continue moving (20') and attack whichever one is in their path (Attack:16 for 6 dmg + poison (Fort DC:11) frequency 1/round for 2 rounds; effect 1d2 Str; + distraction - nauseated for 1 round (Fort DC:11)).
Likewise if it remains combat Fand will hold action and attack the Druid if he tries to cast anything. If he doesn't cast she attacks him anyway (only if it is combat) - if not combat she circles above: (Attack:14 for 4 dmg).

'Lil begins to turns in terror and flee. In a private space deep inside her, she wails. Fleeing in terror was the absolute antithesis of everything she held dear. It would be a betrayal to herself, her dudes, and worst of all to Domi. To do so would rend her spirit and shatter her ego. It was something she could not bear.
She taps that space and draws on the reserve of bravery she held there. It was not limitless, that space, but it was sufficient. She tightens her grip on Maya and stands her ground. She knew she would need to atone for how very close she came, but right now she had other concerns. She gives her head a final shake, and becomes herself again. (Will save 15. Hero point used for +4 to pass.)
Back in command, her head reels. Why had Thorondir attacked outright? Caelwyn had been right to call for diplomacy. Did Thorondir know something they didn't? Even when Haemir had tried again, Thorondir attacked again. It was possible he was right to do so, but they should have been given a chance to surrender.
"HOLD BACK YOUR SUMMONS," she yells as loud as she's able (which is pretty loud). "I ain't no bandit. I am a priestess of Domi and swear to you I'll protect you myself should you need it if you surrender. I know we started this violence, but it ain't too late to end it." Her voice is a little wavering, she reckons an effect of the fear magic she resisted. She hopes it and Haemir's are enough to stop this before folks get themselves killed.
Diplomacy: 18 to give Haemir's check a +2.
She keeps her readied action if she's approached by anyone looking to hurt her, adjusted for being shaken.

OOC: I don't see how I can communicate with the earth elemental to tell it to stop attacking. "The summoned ally appears where you designate and acts immediately, on your turn. It attacks your opponents to the best of its ability. Caelwyn completely ignores the cone of terror - the strength of his deity flows through him, protecting him from magical harm. His presence inspires the others, and they take new strength from his own.
(Translation: At 3rd level, a paladin is immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects. This ability functions only while the paladin is conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead)
Caelwyn then does something either brave, or very stupid. He drops his shield and trident and holds both hands palm outward, one toward his companions and one toward the unknown party. He tries to place himself between them, and calls out: "ENOUGH! Stop this madness before someone is killed! Sentinels, stand down! We do not even know who we are fighting! In the name of Domi, stand down I say!!"

None of that mattered. Akuno was terrified of the Satyr and his friend, and nothing was going to change that. Even the sight of brave Caelwyn didn't matter. With a yowl and a springing jump midair, Akuno turns and run, her tail and ears frizzed out and poofy.
She runs on all fours past 'Lil, streaking straight for the cover of the sargrass.
"Kill it 'Lil! Kill it ohmygods kill it and find me later!" she yells, her voice trailing off into the grass.

The Man Swings his club and knocks the Earth Elemental a good whack! The Wounded Ork does the same and between the two of them the Earth Elemental falls to rubble. The Satyr grunts as the Elemental hits him and starts back peddling to get out the way, he brings a Pan flute to his lips as he does and a haunting melody starts to play.
The Orc yells out, strangely perturbed for some reason. You keep asking us to parley, then you keep attacking us, I don't believe you, you evil sons of @$%&$.

Thorondir dispels the remaining earth elemental and with a quick beat of his wings puts another 30 feet of distance between himself and the group. He is now about 80 feet away and will circle and watch to see what happens next. It seems strange to him that they set out for blood and they are now calling for peace. That is the trouble with having a paladin along he supposes.

Haemir lowers his hand x-bow whilst Fand circles overhead. "Don't speak to us of evil. We track the one who entered the stone temple and tried to burn the remains a druid oak-tree named Genyielt. Whoever this criminal is did not consult with the Druid Virgil who was bonded with the Ent and had no right. The trail of blood lead us to you", he nods at the injured Orc.
The spiders seem to understand him and cease their advance, (which is good because he's not really sure how they even got here). He glimpses very briefly at the writhing swarm and tries not to think of where they came from - just case he wretches and looses his cool.
"Tell us what role you played in these actions and do not lie to us. We know at least one of you was there" Haemir is seething under his skin. An anger boiling. As if sensing it the spiders writhe and wriggle and advance a foot. Seeing this Haemir controls himself and they settle once more. Meanwhile Llew is still with the main party, and after seeing everyone else stop fighting, he also wanders back, towards the rest of the group, He seems to have a smile on his face as he wanders over towards Lil, and nuzzles his cheek against the cleric.

The Satyr though keeps playing his pipes. the melody is sort of sad, and strangely hypnotic. Llew yawns big time and apparently, thinking his job as the tracker is done, lays down and goes to sleep.

He tries to reign in his wrath and speak calmly to the strangers. "Our party was on edge and ready for a fight, that is why we attacked by mistake. Had you been tracking an evildoer for hours, you would no doubt feel the same anxiety. But we did not mean to strike before we knew who you were. Now, we can either go back to killing each other or we can at least discuss our situation with one another."
He inclines his head slightly. "I am Caelwyn Alterius, servant of Domi. I am called to protect the innocent and helpless, and right now I, along with my friends, serve as a guardian of New Rattledam. We were following a trail left by an attacker which led us to you - that is part of why some of our number attacked before asking questions. But tell me, who are you, and where do you come from? And how is it that the blood trail we followed seemed to lead us to you, if you have done no wrong?"
He then looks at the Satyr. "Put the flute away, please. If you are truly innocent, you have nothing to fear from us. But I have no interest in falling asleep out here."

'Lil's glad they're talkin' instead of fighting, but she's with Haemir on this one. Her dudes were good trackers, too good to somehow find the wrong injured folks in the middle of the Sargrass.
She was also tired and in no mood for games, so when Haemir gets dark, she's inclined to let him. Her own training was more high-concept diplomacy than good ol' fashioned intimidation, so she don't try and get in his way.
She's glad they ain't outright evil, but that don't mean they're not overzealous druid-types. She ponders what happens when folks what ain't think they're evil are hit with a detect evil spell. Whose version of evil gets detected, the caster's or the target's?
Problems for another time, no doubt. She looks at the sleeping lion and figures there ain't no way she's poking the thing. Grindar's companion or no he's still a freakin' lion. She knew better, yes she did.

Akuno is easy to track and follow. She's small, but she's a literal mess of hoop skirts, laces, ribbons, and fur, and she's moving in a straight line. Unlike Grindar, there's no martial pride causing her harmful bouts of shame or self loathing, she just doesn't understand what's happening other than a scary flute-goat shouted at her.

The ways of magical compulsion are strange, and on the run Grindar and Akuno begin pondering the vagarities of magical fear. at least they are trying to. their shared conversation mostly sounds like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...gasp....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. still I'm going to rule that the shared experience and also seeing a fellow teammate in obvious fear for their lives has a psychological effect. I'll give you the choice of either taking 2 off the number of rounds you have to run this is your 4th round of 8 so you would get two more rounds. or you can make another will save with a DC of 20 to overcome the fear and move normally. remember you also have a -2 bonus due to exhaustion from pushing through the night.

Upon hearing the words and seeing the other party all casting spells, Thorondir casts Entangle to capture all three of the party, avoiding catching his companions in it.

Caelwyn has had enough. "Very well, if you refuse to listen to reason and talk this out, your blood is on your own heads!"
He charges forward and stabs at the Satyr with his trident, determined to stop that music.
(First attack role was an accident, without the +8 added, but I rolled a nat 20...not sure if it's legit to keep that. Otherwise it is a 12 to hit, for 9 damage)

Mustering all the will power he can (Using a hero point before the roll), Grindar is able to snap out of his fear funk. (it should be +13 not +16, but either way the math works in his favor) He stops running and takes a second to decide what to do next, then turns around and begins running back with a strong desire to sink his ax into the goat dudes head.
Since no one nudged Llew, he is still asleep.

With two people running and Llew still asleep that the fight suddenly feels like it's swung in the enemies favour. 'Damn their delay tactics' Haemir thinks. Time slows down and he shouts: "FAND WAKE LLEW". Looking at the man he notes him casting (Spellcraft:16): "Argh he's trying to summon something big - must stop him"! A distant part of him knows that if the Druid summons something big-&-nightmarish like a Dire Lion there's no way this ends well for the sentinels, they're spread out enough as it is.
The blue Macaw swoops past him (snapping Haemir out of his reverie) as she crashes in to the lion, her claws scrape him enough to get his attention (no dmg) as she scrambles to her feet and pushes off again cawing/screeching: "WAAAAAKEY WAKEY" she frantically flaps trying to force herself up again as fast as she can.
Seeing Caelwyn has charged the Satyr Haemir panics - he knows he's very unlikely able to do sufficient damage to the Druid to stop him casting - that's even if he manages to hit him! Frantically he searches for any kind of alternative. In sheer desperation he rushes the Druid casting a spell. Maybe, just maybe he can pull this off!? Touch the Druid and make him forget his spell! It's a long shot ... But he can think of nothing else.
Meanwhile, The Swarm encompasses the Orc's legs biting and snapping before dispersing in to the grass. (Attack:14 for 6 dmg + Poison: Fort DC 11; frequency 1/round for 2 rounds; effect 1d2 Str; cure 1 save)

Haemir: Moves up to 30' and casts 'Touch of Idiocy' and performs a touch attack. Using a hero point (after the fact) his Touch attack becomes:18. He also uses his 'Focused Curse': 1/day as an immediate action, which adds +1 to the spell penetration check & Sv DC of a curse he casts.
If the spell goes off/hits it gives (d6) 6 (woot!) penalty to the target's Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores - with no save. SR applies. (just in case it's needed SR penetration roll:13). "The spell's effect may make it impossible for the target to cast some or all of its spells, if the requisite ability drops below the minimum required to cast spells of that level").
