Beech lets one of the sneakier members lead though he keeps his bow drawn
Lothlo suggests people keep their eyes open for traps as the new hallway is built before their eyes.
Zazu does not perceive an illusion. He does however think from his knowledge of the arcane the haunting melody and the speed that the new structure was built that he is seeing the effects of a lyre of building, the prize they are seeking in action. Boyo wriggles in Zazu’s pocket
Niall uses detect evil on the misty figures but finds nothing
Camalayas and Naithi lead the way while trying to keep eyes out for traps/enemies and be stealthy.
Ash leaves a marker in the room so they can keep track. She comes to the same conclusion as Zazu - the Lyre is probably responsible for this.

As the party leaves the room it becomes clear lights will be needed for the rest of the dungeon. The hallway, and whatever room is on the other side, is darkened. Once some sort of lights or arranged (or not) they enter a new room.

This room is filled with mushrooms of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are fairly regular, a few inches tall, while others are as big as a dog and several as tall as a man. They glisten in the light, slightly moist in the cool, humid air that fills the chamber.

As soon as everyone has exited the hall the haunting melody echo’s through the caverns yet again. In the dark room you can’t see most of the figures except those that pass close by. They seem to be wielding some strange tools you’ve never seen before as they fill in the hall you just came from. You can see motion to the west indicating a new hall being built.

As the room goes dark Lothlo pulls out some torches
I have some light sources, but I can't hold them and use a bow at the same time, does someone with a one handed weapon want to take a torch? Oh, and any chance someone has spells to buff us before we go deeper into this dungeon?

When all is ready and they enter the room, the music appears again piquing Lothlo's interest.
Wait, a lyre of building is only once per week right? Are there two lyres? Are they leading us somewhere dangerous? Or setting up a trap?
Lothlo uses his dungeoneering knowledge to see if there is anything suspicious... well, more suspicious than a room being built before their eyes.

Lothlo also examines the room they are in.
Naithi, any idea what these mushrooms are? By the way, I would appreciate it if you didn't try eating the mushrooms to learn more about them.
Looking at the mushrooms Lothlo tries to determine what they are and what kind of trap might have been laid for them.

He readies his bow again in case they are actually something about to attack (assuming someone else is holding a light source).

Ash is also interested in the mushrooms. Very interested in fact. If she doesn't detect anything magical about them she will stop concentrating on the Detect Magic spell and cast a Mage Hand spell to pick some of the smaller ones. After the events with that strange pool of water she is going to keep her hands to herself.

"It's ok Lothlo. I got this" Ash casts a Dancing Lights spell to ensure the group is able to see a little, but also to free Lothlo's hands.

Once again she makes another hand print on the ground.

I quickly examine the mushrooms looking for anything useful. If it is edible, poisonous, medicinal, etc. If anything is if use I will collect it (careful not to touch it with my skin or release spores) to bring back with us. If possible it will be fine in such a way to allow future cultivation back home.

Beech uses Dancing Lights to provide enough illumination for the party. He suggests someone is using the magic of the lyre
Niall agrees that it seems that way as he draws his sword and keeps it rested on his shoulder.
Lothlo pulls out some torches and offers them to folks. He asks if anyone has any buffs they want to use and ponders the fast building. Lothlo asks Naithi for an opinion on the mushrooms advising her not to eat them. He readies his bows again in case something is there.
Ash tells Lothlo she has the Mushrooms. Concerned after experiences with the pool she uses a mage hand to take a sample. She also contributes dancing lights and makes another glowy handprint on the ground.
Zazu checks for traps
Naithi examines the mushrooms looking to figure out if they might have any use.

As the party examines the mushrooms they realize that hidden amongst the mushroom rooms are some mushroom monsters. Ash and Lothlo spot a mushroom growing from a bed of tentacular roots. As Deep violet tendrils slither out of the dozens of fissures in its pointed cap they realize this is no ordinary mushroom, it is a violet fungus hidden amongst the other mushrooms. Zazu spots two other small purple toadstools that are more than they appear.

Lothlo fires his readied arrow into the cap of the violet fungus.

The violet fungus moves forward and attacks Zazu, smashing him with a tentacle. He takes 5 damage and must make a fort save DC 15 or take 1 strength and 4 constitution damage.
A smaller fungi, about the size of a dog, react as the light touches them. Everyone must take a DC 11 fortitude save. Failure means they take 1d3 damage a round while the creature sheiks.

The fungus that attacked Zazu looks like the bigger threat right now. Ash casts Ray of Frost at the Violet one.

She keeps an eye out for those ghostly figures.

Perhapse it was that Lothlo was already wary of the mushrooms attacking, but he isn't phased by the smaller shroom's attack. He tries to identify what types of mushrooms these are, their weaknesses, and what might have caused them to attack since it seemed like the light might have been the trigger for at least one of them attacking.

Lothlo then pulls back his bow and lets two more arrows fly towards the violet mushroom, moving to the smaller mushroom should it fall.

Náro is unpleasantly surprised by the shrieking, but manages to still cast two magic missiles at the source of the noise.

Zazu tries to resist the attacks ... Fort fails 7 vs the ability score damage; saves 21 vs the sonic attack.

Zazu is a bit dazed, but has the presence of mind to step back 5 ft and cast Scorching Ray at the violet fungus. Arcane fail chance 57% is OK. His ranged touch attack hits touch AC14 for 16 fire damage -- or at the shrieker if the violet fungi is down.

Beech sees the fungus and instead of shooting he casts flaming sphere on the larger purple one but the Mushroom manages to dodge out of the way.
Ash casts ray of frost at the one attacking Zazu as she tries to recollect what she may know about their assailants
Lothlo fires off two arrows while also thinking of information on the mushrooms.
Náro fires off magic missiles at the shrieking smaller mushrooms.

Ash and Beech are able to identify that the violet mushroom has a rotting effect to its attack that functions as a type of poison. It also is immune to mind affecting effects, paralysis, poison, polymorph, sleep and stunning like most plants. They also know that the shrieking dog sized mushrooms are called shriekers. They are immune to sonic damage and emit damaging sonic shrieks of their own when creatures draw near.

Zazu burns away the shrieker mushroom.

The light of the spells and other action disturb a second Shrieker that starts keening. Everyone must again DC 11 fort save or take 4 sonic damage

Then something appears out of nowhere biting at Ash, though she manages to avoid it. It is some sort of transparent pale white fungus. It fades out of view again as it moves away from her.

As the transparent body fades from view Lothlo glances down to see if it leaves a shadow. He also checks the ground, in an environment that is hospitable to fungi he hopes to see their footsteps indented in the moist ground where the fungi are growing, trampled mushrooms, or possibly wet footprints on stone.

Lothlo notches two more arrows and sends them flying towards the second shrieker if it's still standing, if not he holds his attack and waits for the invisible form (or any other new threat) to appear again, or for their footsteps to leave a sign of where they are hiding

Again, Náro is adversely affected by the shrieking of the mushroom and has a hard time focusing on anything else with that ringing in his ears. However, he's also relieved that the first mushroom had stopped shrieking-- was it dead?-- and manages to focus enough to cast a couple magic missiles at the new source of noise.

Niall ignores the shrieking and steps up to take a mighty swing at the newest shrieking mushroom. It shuts up.

Beech directs his sphere to stay on the violet fungus. It is helpless and takes 11 more fire damage. The sphere roasts it to death. He readies his bow against the other mushroom creature that attacked Ash should it show itself.

Ash gets a headache from the second shrieker, warns the others about the transparent fungus and readies an attack of her own against it. She identifies the new fungus as a appropriately named phantom fungus. Aside from the plant traits it shares with its brethren it also has a weakness where it appears visibly briefly after attacking and if you ready an attack at this time you only have to deal with concealment (20% miss chance) vs invisibility (50% miss chance)

Lothlo glances down to see if the transparent fungus has left a shadow or any other evidence of its passing but he can’t determine anything. He notches arrows and also waits for the new fungus to show up.

Camalayas gets a whiff of the invisible assailant and moves towards it, eventually stopping. Naithi casts fairie fire when Camalayas stops causing the phantom fungus to become outlined and shed light like a candle. This triggers the readied attacks seeing Beech and Ash hit their target while Lothlo misses.

Náro finishes off the second shrieking mushroom with a magic missile.

Zazu scorches the now visible fungus.

The Phantom Fungus writhes in silent agony, but stays standing long enough to lash out at Naithi though her armor protects her from the attack.

Lothlo notches two arrows and if the phantom fungus is still standing sends them flying their way. Otherwise he scans for signs of other attackers to target. If all is quiet he doesn't let down his guard, but knowing there are invisible enemies will ready to shoot anything that might appear next.

Lothlo looks around the cave at any remaining fungi to make sure there are no other ones that are likely to attack the party. With Naithi wanting to start cooking the dead, Lothlo makes sure to keep his bow ready just in case she provokes another attack.

Zazu looks around, alert for more danger. The elf walks about, hoping that the secret door radar of the elves will ping if there is anything hidden. And looking for the ways out.

Beech lets the flaming sphere dissipate and nocks another arrow. He refreshes the dancing lights and inquires if anyone else knows more about the mushrooms.
Niall says he doesn’t know what they were but makes a pun.
Naithi wonders how they taste and asks if she can cook them up now.
Ash has the sample she took earlier with the mage hand and casts detect poison before anyone else does anything. She advises against a cook fire.
Lothlo looks around to make sure there are no further threats. He remains vigilant in case another attack is provoked.
Zazu also remains on alert. He walks around looking for danger and signs of secret doors.

Ash does not detect any poison on the mushrooms. Naithi realizes that the rest of the mushrooms in the cave are non-magical and unremarkable. Some are probably edible and they can replace some foodstuffs but they likely won’t keep well but otherwise none were particularly remarkable besides the ones the party just slew.

Zazu finds no secret doors. There is only one exit, leading east from where you are at.

It may not be the wisest thing to introduce an invasive species into our new home, especially a fungus who's spores would be hard to control. I'm sure cooking is fine, but if you want to set up a mushroom growing cave it would probably be better to do mushrooms that already grow by our town.

Zazu suggests they plan to come back and turn this cave into a mushroom farm. To this ends he cautions the group from picking too many. He looks to the exit suggesting the party continue onwards.

Beech argues this place is too deep in the woods to be useful but suggests they gather some samples to take back and look at creating an environment suitable closer to home especially once they have the liar. He directs his light down the hallway.

Ash agrees with Beech that this is a dangerous journey for mushrooms and renews her dancing light spell deferring to someone else to lead the way.

Lothlo suggests they not introduce an invasive species to their new home and suggests if they want a mushroom growing cave they use species that exist in the vicinity.

Niall suggests they focus on the lyre, the task at hand and consider coming back for mushrooms in the future.

Naithi argues that mushrooms like specific environments and there should be little risk of them spreading beyond those specific environments. She secures some samples to take back.

As the party debates and investigates the various mushrooms several minutes pass. Then the ghostly music sounds again and the ghostly figures start to fill in the only exit - this time without another hall being dug out at the same time. Seconds later the music fades and the party finds themselves trapped in the room.

Niall moves towards the exit but as he gets there it becomes closed off. He pounds the wall and states the obvious.

Ash looks on the brightside and points out they aren’t going to starve

Beech suggests they wait to see if the lyre makes a new door or they grow old

Lothlo asked if they are closed in or if it is an illusion. He points out that a standard lyre can’t be used 3 times in a row but they know this lyre isn’t standard so maybe it has different properties. He looks for an interval pattern in the changes.

Naithi replies there is only one way to figure out if they are trapped and then double checks the new wall using her eyes as well as her touch.

Naro tries to keep everyone calm.

Zazu wonders if the creature playing the lyre is very talented.

With nothing better to do the party is stuck waiting. Investigations of the wall prove they’re solid stone, no illusions or tricks here. After a few minutes the lyre sounds again. Everything gets all misty and mysterious again and… nothing happens. The party is still trapped.

A few minutes after that, about the same amount of time if anyone times it, the lyre sounds a third time. This time two hallways are constructed by the ghostly figures, one leading back to the entrance (you can tell by the faint blue glow at the end of the hall) and the one that was there before that closed before you could go down it.

Lothlo observes that the pattern is pretty regular and if a person was manually controlling the changes they could end up trapped forever. He also points out it is less likely someone is trying to actively hunt them down and advocates moving into the next round before it closes again.

The party advances into the next room. It too has been overrun with mushrooms, but someone had a big fight in here. Almost every mushroom has been completely destroyed, with singe marks on the walls and ceiling. Some were burned, others slashed to pieces or pierced with arrows.

Notably, there are many mushrooms that make the ones in the previous room look tiny, though now they’ve all been destroyed. There are also many, many more corpses of violet fungus, massive in size versions of the ones you fought, and what you presume are corpses of those invisible ones. Had someone not beaten you here you’d be in serious trouble.

A skeleton lays amidst the carnage, half covered in a destroyed fungus now withered to the point where the skeleton is visible.

The music begins to play and the entrance behind you is dismantled. Another entrance across the way opens up.

Náro studies the door they just left curiously as it closes up. 'We should try to figure out the pattern of the building changes,' he suggests. 'If we do, we can use it to our advantage, but if we don't figure it out, we might not be able to get back-- I don't think we can get back to the surface now if we wanted to.' He walks over to the skeleton to see if he can determine anything about the previous party that fought here-- whether the skeleton's wearing armor, how big it looks, that kind of thing.

Lothlo examines the battle scene. He makes sure there are no living threats, no traps, and for any signs that something might have been here recently .
Seeing that there are arrow piercings he also glances around for any magical arrows that might be laying around.

Well, the way I see it one of two things likely happened. We know the lyre is here, since the halls keep getting blocked up. Either the guys that did this are still here, or something even stronger than what's in this room finished them off. And since the rooms seem to be changing at a regular pace instead of just blocking us in forever, I'm thinking there is still something pretty nasty still waiting for us between here and the lyre.

Let's learn what we can from this scene. They skeleton is half covered in a destroyed fungus. We should be prepared for a fungus that tries to eat us or wrap is up like a spider.

It looks like they had luck with fire. That might be a good tactic.

We also learned that they react to light. I'm going to assume that it hurts them, so torches, daylight spells, etc might be useful.

"We shouldn't take too much time. If there is someone else after the Lyre, they may reach it and we can end up trapped in here.... If no one else is here, we can return after we get the Lyre and examine stuff to your hearts content."

Naithi suggests they be ready in case a fungus tries to wrap them up or eat them and that fire seemed to work really well. She also suggests some kind of light source. She also looks around for anything valuable or tracks and tries to determine weaknesses of what they might be fighting in the future base on what she sees.
(OOC: you got enough foodstuffs from the foraging to replace whatever rations you used in getting to dungeon. Keep in mind these mushroom rations won’t last as long as standard rations do)

Zazu is also worried about the shifting walls of the labyrinth and checks out the material being used to build around them. He realizes that the shifting material is indeed stone not wood. It would take magic or a lot of hard labor to secure their way out.

Beech uses detect magic to figure out if there is anything useful before ushering the party to the exit. He reasons they shouldn’t waste time in case someone else is after the Lyre lest they end up trapped.

The party examines the room thoroughly. Unfortunately almost everything useful seems to have been recovered - the corpse’s items are gone and only broken and useless arrows remain. Presumably whomever destroyed the mushrooms retrieved everything useable afterward, but if so they missed a staff strapped to the dead guy’s back, hidden under the body and mushroom, now visible since it’s withered some. The staff is crafted from bronzewood with brass bindings.

Naithi confirms that, like the corpses outside, this one is several weeks old. Either part of the same group, or someone unrelated who happened to die around the same time. The fungus’s are varied and range from common fair to exotic ones she’s never seen before, but mostly seem harmless and just caught in the crossfire of the battle. She is able to identify several Huge specimens of the fungi they fought in the previous room, at least a dozen or more now dead.

The fungus on top of the corpse is probably one of those invisible ones, now visible since it’s dead. It didn’t seem to engulf the dead guy, rather the guy died then the fungus was killed and fell on him. Now it’s rotted enough so that the body was mostly uncovered.

Discussion was had of trying to figure out how the halls work - does the party want to wait for another shift, or advance to the next room?

Beech retrieves the staff notes it is enchanted and suggests moving on.
Ash tries to work out how it is enchanted and Lothlo attempts to help her. He suggests the others move.
Niall agrees they should move forward.
Zazu also takes a stab at identifying the staff. Between Ash, Lothlo and Zazu they manage to identify the staff as a staff of fire that is fully charged, so the party now has some means of doing fire damage should they need it.
Náro suggests they shouldn’t dilly dally and that they should move forward as a unit so that no one gets left behind.

The group is about ready to go when suddenly a half orc appears in their midst along with a spiky white wolf creature.

OOC... I’ll make an official header this afternoon, when I have access to my computer. I’m posting from my phone now.

A 6’10” , heavily muscled half orc appears with what looks like a cross between a carnivorous dinosaur and a horse. DC 20 knowledge nature Highlight to display spoiler: {it’s a rapke} Based on the white scales and pink eyes it is easy to determine that the creature is an albino. The half-orc is wearing a breastplate made of 2” by 3” plates sown together (lamellar). The plates are made from an iridescent green material, and the creature is wearing studded leather barding with the studs made from the same iridescent
material. The half-orc is holding an orc double ax in one hand, and has a quarterstaff strapped to his back. The half-orc has a confused look on his face as if he is trying to determine his location. Seeing the party, he introduces himself, ”My name is Grindar, son of Grindor, and this is my friend, from the Sargrass Plains, Cotton. Am I correct in my understanding that you are the heroes from the Culverwood?”

Grindar is a bit surprised that someone was able to identify Cotton, and says, "Thank you, she's a faithful friend" to Ash, "And well met to you as well", he says turning to Zazu. Niall detects no evil on either Grindar or Cotton, and Grindar says, "I am no threat, in fact I have sought you out to hopefully assist you, though I don't know your quest. Until recently I was a member of the Sargrass Sentinels down in the Sargrass Plains of the Southern Continent, but I am originally from up here. My friend Succotash Slenderstick, of the Humble's Ford crew, He's a cleric, though he used to be a paladin, arrived to let me know my parents were sick and possibly dying, and teleported me to their side. By the grace of the gods, they made a recovery that even surprised Succotash, and as I was about to ask him to take me back to the Sargrass, he mentioned an adventuring party closer to home, that may find the aid of a ranger beneficial, and so he teleported me to your location, hence the abrupt appearance. Imagine my shock to find myself in some underground place, when I expected to be in a forest!"

Cuddly! I coo as I rush forward to hug the adorable horse.

As I rush forward you notice my hide armor covers most of my outfit. To you I must look like a child or fairie, or some cross of the two. People always mistake my race's facial features for youthful innocence. It also doesn't help that I come up to most of their thighs and weigh less than their armor. Heck, I weigh less than my armor (3'6" and 8lbs).

Oh...My name is Naithi (N-eye-thee), better known as Murder Muppet, a nickname I earned as a slave in the orc gladiator pits. You can probably tell by my appearance that I am one of the beastfolk. Specifically I am a Sloth-kin, which you would lump in with the Ursine or Bearfolk.

Grindar introduces himself and his rapke companion Cotton. He inquires if the group he’s stumbled upon are the heroes of the Culverwood
Beech covers the half-orc with his bow before lowering it when given an explanation. He also introduces himself.
Zazu blinks in surprise before greeting Grindar in the half-orc’s native tongue and introducing himself and Boyo.
Niall turns towards the half-orc and attempts to detect evil while the others talk. The paladin detects no evil from Grindar or Cotton
Ash admits they are who Grindar is looking for asking if Grindar knows anything about the scene involving the skeleton. She also readies a magic missile just in case but complements Cotton
Grindar gives a bit of a further explanation as to how he wound up where he is and how he would like to assist the party in their quest
Lothlo lowers his bow and introduces himself making note of his profession. He also points out they could likely use all the help they can get
Naithi hugs Cotton before introducing herself including her nickname, Camalayaas, Fizzgig and mule

Introductions made and with them needing to go before the halls move again the party heads out. Once again they move through a plain, unmarked hallway and emerge into a mushroom infested room. Here the mushrooms form a great tangle and grow to near the ceiling. Bones little the room, brittle with age - something here has been killing for a very long time.

As the music sounds and the halls shift the party finds themselves trapped in the room. Something starts to move - you can see fungi shifting, but it’s hard to make out (perception DC 20 to pinpoint the enemy). A cloud of spores envelopes the party spraying from either side - everyone (and pets/companions to) must make a DC 15 will save or fall asleep.

Grindar doesn't notice the incoming threat, but manages to shake off the sleepiness (save 19). Cotton notices the threat, but falls asleep right after.

Grindar feels a wave of drowsiness flood over him, but manages to shake it off. He grasps Cyrchwr Mawr, his Orc-Double axe, and looks around for the source of the sleepiness. As he looks about, he watches Cotton succumb to the drowsiness, and gives her a nudge with his foot, hoping to awaken her. If he is close enough to Zazu, he will try nudging him as well.

She doesn't feel the effects of the spores at all but notices some of the others in the party drop to the ground. Ash tries to wake them up, starting with humanoids before moving on to companions.

We might be diverse, but I think we are more similar to each other than minotaurs, centaurs and liontaurs are to each other. Before I can continue, I find myself assaulted by spores and quickly hold my breath. My first instinct is to start the mold on fire, but calmer heads take to diplomatic route, so Camalayas and I wait and I try to help speak when I can.

Grindar shakes off the sleep effect while Cotton falls asleep. Grasping Cyrchwr Mawr he looks around for a threat while nudging his rapke companion with his foot.
Ash spits the spores away and then tries to start waking those who fell asleep starting with the humanoids.

Lothlo calls the location of the assailant to the party while avoiding the sleep effects. He wakes Beech but cannot identify what the new mushroom threat is
Niall points at their assailant and asks it to step out in peace and talk while keeping his weapon ready
Zazu is immune to the sleep effect but Boyo isn’t. He readies a color spray and slips the sleeping bunny into his pocket

Naithi and Camalaayas avoid the spores, like Lothlo, Niall, Náro and Zazu she can pinpoint the source. She tries to take a diplomatic approach

Zazu, Lothlo, Niall, Náro, Zazu and Naithi see a large serpent formed of fungus, plants, and tangled vines. As it moves toward you, it flicks its vine-like tongue and sways back and forth.
Naithi identifies it as a plant creature known as a fungus weird. They are connected to their fungi forests and regenerate when killed. Fire damage or destroying the fungi they’re connected to prevents regeneration.

There are two of the creatures and they both slither towards the party aggressively. Zazu’s color spray intercepts one, though it is only stunned for a moment (over 5 hd). The other seizes Niall in it’s jaws (7 damage) and grabs him (you are grappled). Enemy CMD is 21 to escape.

Recalling what I know about the fungus weird, I tell everyone to use fire and destroy the mushrooms, especially if a den/swamp can be seen.

I then cast flaming sphere, praying that this thing is the alpha enemy in the cave, and stevy the sphere towards it. The path is such that it contact as many mushrooms as possible and any likely swamp they might be connected to before it lands on the weird.

Knowledge Nature to know about weird = 22
Survival = 30 to determine for to safely prepare and eat this creature

Flaming Sphere damage = 10 fire dmg and the sooner burns any barrier and flammable substance it contacts. Sphere travels max distance for max destruction before landing in creature or swamp (hopefully both)

Ooc: from Nature check, Fungus Pool: A fungus weird’s “pool” is not a pool at all, but an entanglement of leaves, branches, mosses, funguses, and plants. A typical pool covers a 20-foot radius, and a fungus weird (being bound to its pool) can never leave this area.

Grindar hears Naithi"s words, but sadly he has no fire attack. So he does what he does best and attacks, showing his new companions what Cyrchwr Mawr can do. If he is close enough he will take a 5ft step and then unleash a full round attack, on the closest enemy, using his skill as a two-weapon fighter to attack with both ends of Cyrchwr Mawr, otherwise he will make a two-handed attack, and only hit with one end.

Beech stands up and picks up his bow as he does. He thanks the others for waking him.
Naithi tells the others what she remembers about the fungus weird. She encourages them to use fire and destroy the mushrooms. After that she casts flaming sphere trying to burn away as many mushrooms as she can en route to the weirds. Both weirds take 10 damage from the spheres.
Grindar hears Naithi’s words but has no fire attack so he attacks. Both attacks hit but the half-orc finds some resistance and his axe doesn’t sink in as deep as he thinks it should. Additionally advancing to melee puts him in the field of mushrooms. (Int: 10) Highlight to display spoiler: {DR 5 / bludgeoning } They immediately writhe and wrap around his legs (you cannot move - it takes a full round action and a escape artist 15 or STR 19 check to free yourself)
Lothlo fires off 2 arrows at the same weird Grindar was attacking but misses once. With the other the arrow doesn’t seem to sink in as much (Int: 10) Highlight to display spoiler: {DR 5 / bludgeoning }
Ash uses pox pustules against the stunned weird but it resists.
Zazu fires off a ray of frost at the same weird that Ash targeted

Looking at the room it is completely filled with fungi. The pool seems to extend through the whole room other than the small space near the entrance you’re standing in, meaning extra large pools or even more of the creatures hiding further back. Naithi’s fire certainly gets a strong reaction though as both Weird’s turn to glare at her as she burns sections of it away.

The more injured weird hisses in pain before dragging Niall deep into the fungi and hides behind one of the taller stalks. Niall is now grappled and entangled.

The second weird charges right past the group to attack Naithi who manages to skillfully avoid its charge

Zazu moves carefully to get into flank with Grindar unfortunately even with his precision damage added the elf finds his dagger fail to make any dent against the weird’s hide. (int: 10 Highlight to display spoiler: { DR 5 / bludgeoning)}

Lothlo doesn’t know why his arrows aren’t working out so well so the changes target to weird 2. The first arrow hits but does not penetrate as deeply as it should. The second hits but doesn’t seem to do anything. (int: 10:Highlight to display spoiler: { DR5/bludgeoning)}

Náro steps back a little and fires his magic missiles against the weird Naithi targeted.

Grindar and Cotton attack the second weird. His axe continues to meet resistance against the weird’s plant hide but Cotton’s teeth have no such issue.

Beech summons his own rolling ball of flame and directs it against the one Grindar is fighting with.
Ash casts a magic missile at the weird holding Niall.
Niall escapes the mushroom weird.

Between the punishment the party has dealt both mushroom weirds have collapsed into heaps in their pools.

Náro doesn't think that any of his spells can really be of use here, so he only watches to be sure that the members of his party that can cast fire-related spells can do so-- and he voices some congratulations to his party for defeating the threats so quickly. Ash asks how long the flaming spheres last. She explains the need to burn the pools away to prevent the Weirds from coming back and suggests someone use their newly acquired staff to create a wall of fire.
Grindar suggests the flaming spheres will keep the weirds well and truly dead and offers the group a compliment in the slang he was accustomed to coming from the Sargrass
Niall takes a swing at the weird just to make sure it stays dead
Lothlo pulls an alch fire from his pack. He doesn’t detect any threats so he uses it on one of the weirds.
Zazu advises his friends to bludgeon the weirds then realizes they have been downed so fire is needed to prevent them from coming back.
Náro doesn’t think any of his spells can be of use here so he watches those who have the ability to torch the pools. He congratulates his team on a job well done.
Beech directs his flaming sphere to the pools where the creatures collapsed.
Naithi does the same with hers.

Between the flaming spheres and the alchemist fires the party is able to ensure not only that the Mushroom weirds are down but they stay down and can’t get back up to challenge the party or any other potential travellers making their way through the passages. You are victorious in a room full of scorched mushrooms. Shortly after you finish the music starts and the exit opens.

Before we head out I pull out my Spatula of Corpse Retrieval and collect some of the fungi. Normal mushrooms and be seasoned to taste like meat, but this mushroom meat should be the best of both!

I toss a small piece in my frying pan to get a sense of how it will cook up. This could make a fine meal. I can combine it the wolf meat and sauce pouches I prepared for stew tail rations and turn it into a take out style meat and mushroom stir fry in a brown simmer sauce.

"That's right. All this work for an instrument" Since this Grindar fellow seems ok, Ash starts to give him a brief summary of what the party have been up to. Escaped from orcs, freed some orcs, set up a new settlement with permission from the ruling government, friend got kidnapped, looking for a lyre to help speed up construction, ended up here. "I can give you the detailed version once we get safely out of here. Say, do you have a home to go to after all this? You seem able to handle yourself well, and we could always use a little more muscle in the camp"

Grindar thanks Ash and Beech for the short version of the parties origin, and current quest, and then answers Ash's question, "Of course I can always return to the village I grew up in, as I'm sure my parents would love the help around the farm, but my heart is to be known as a hero of justice, not a farmer, and the best way to accomplish such a goal is to live the life of an adventurer. In truth, this is why I asked Succotash to teleport me to your location, after he told me of your existence. I would love nothing better then to be part of your pack. By the way, does your pack have a name?"

Wait, you want to transplant these things at home? Didn't we have this conversation at least two other times? Let's not attempt to introduce invasive murder plants into our new home. Besides the obvious reasons, we also just had a big conversation with the neighbors about their concerns regarding a settlement and a long talk about how we could make sure we were being respectful... I really don't think they would approve transplanting these weird mushroom things in our forest... besides, I'm pretty sure this thing is officially dead, we torched it good.

I scowl at Lothlo I didn't say I was transplanting the weird. That's our dinner. The only thing I would transplant are the regular cave mushrooms.

ooc: Do we have a group name? How about The Menagerie? Between Fizzgig, Camalayas, Boyo, Buggo, etc.

Grindar hears the music for the first time and sees the opening appear. He asks the others if that happens often
Beech answers that it seems to and that they are after a magical instrument that facilitates building but they need to survive to get where the music originates from to claim it.
Naithi takes some time and her magic frying pan and experiments a little with the mushrooms.
Ash echoes Beech’s sentiment about the lyre, explains their history and then moves into the recruitment pitch for Grindar.
Grindar expresses an interest in Ash’s offer and asks if their group has a name.
Lothlo is concerned by Naithi potentially importing murder plants into their new home and if it would be respectful of their fey neighbors to do so.
Naithi scowls at Lothlo, explains that the Weird is dinner while normal mushrooms are what she wants to attempt to transplant.

Naithi’s suggested break might be nice, but any cooking should probably happen in the previous room where they won’t get trapped once the hall rotates again. The cooking takes long enough that the hallway rotates three times, letting the party notice something. In this room, the one where they found the destroyed mushrooms, the corpse, and Grindar first showed up, the hallway seems to rotate 90 degrees every time, going from east to south to west, though it skips north and goes right back to east. Perhaps you were trapped for 2 rotations as the hall circled back around to let you out again.

She bravely lets someone else take the lead. Ash is rather squishy after all.

Not having a clue as to what is going on, Grindar simply goes with the flow, and when he hears Niall and Ash say it's time to go, he quickly leads the way into the next room, with Cotton by his side, all the while keeping an eye out for danger.

Before the hallway opens up again Lothlo checks the skipped northern wall for signs there is a hidden door of some sort and the moving halls are a decoy/trap.

Niall vocalizes his confusion at the moving hallway
Ash is confused as well but suggests they keep moving forward in order to figure out what is going on.
Grindar and Cotton lead the way forward encouraged by Niall and Ash’s reasoning
Lothlo checks the Northern wall for signs of a hidden door
Zazu helps out
Beech is ready to move on arrow at the ready
Naithi provides assistance.

The party examines the walls and come to many of the same conclusions they did before. The walls are plain stone, with nothing magical or mechanical that would allow them to shift. Every several minutes music plays and ghostly figures appear, filling in a hallway and building a new one.

It seems in this room though there is no risk of being trapped inside like the other one’s you’ve been in. The figures always fill in one hall and build another, causing the only exit to ‘move’. Currently it is facing south, and the pattern seems to be for it to move clockwise along the cardinal directions. You haven’t been to the south yet, but to the west is the room where you first fought the sheikers, violet, and phantom mushrooms and to the east is the room where you fought the mushroom weirds.

Lothlo heads south with the others.
This time he isn't about to be caught unprepared and makes sure he has an arrow notched and ready to shoot at any danger waiting for them as they enter the next room (opting to target those with damage reduction only if nothing squishier presents itself first).

I follow the other, keeping my eyes peeled for trouble and making sure to hold my breath of more spores appear. Silently, I reach down and pay Camalayas side, her warmth comforting me
