DM Jeremy Battle Map Tuesday February 2nd, 2021 6:36:12 AM OOC.. There seems to be some confusion as to how the temp HP works with heroes ' feast, though some of you figured it out. Roll a d8 and then add half the casters level which in this case is 18 so you add 9. Companions, both furry and leafy can partake in the feast. Also, I misunderstood where James left off, the heroes' feast happens in the morning before departure.
After the Heroes Feast, Mahyawu leads the Wardens to the edge of the Manfri village, then makes some swirling gestures with his hands. As he makes the gestures, the same odd smoke you saw him walk out of, and that you walked into, leading to the Manfri village, begins to appear. Mahyawu instructs you to enter the smoky haze, and says, "May the gods protect you, and give you success!"
After entering the haze, like before, you can't see anything, for a moment or two, then the smoke begins to clear and you find yourselves back in the tall grass. A quick look about, and you can vaguely see what appears to be a clearing ahead. Upon closer examination, you see that the ground in the clearing is covered by grass that is only one foot tall. The short grass has a slightly different color than the tall grasses surrounding it. In the center of the clearing, is a large hole in the ground, that resembles a giant gopher hole. Standing at the opening of the hole are two large sized, vaguely humanoid Iron Statue like things with what appear to be wings on their backs. The Statue like things aren't moving, but they can be identified by a DC 23 knowledge arcana Highlight to display spoiler: { they are Iron Golems, however, Iron Golems normally don't have wings.}

Osul isn't quite able to identify the statues, but is able to aid another, or be aided in deciphering what they are. He also fails to be able to pin point the identity of the grass (DC 40) and concludes it must be an exceptionally rare species of grass.
Atlas finds the statues visually stimulating.
Though Neshi fails to identify the statues, he reminds the other Wardens about their track record, and casts stoneskin on Atlas
Armand concludes that the statues are probably a golem of sorts, and based on their appearance, he figures they may be an atypical form and maybe an iron golem. He readies himself to do battle with constructs and asks if anyone has any cool spells available.
Elyngael decides to reach out and touch the two constructs with some adamantine arrows, hitting her targets with ease. Though the arrows bite deep, she doesn't notice the golems taking any damage from the shock.
Owen correctly identifies the golems as Iron Golems, and he confirms that the wings aren't normal. He then takes to the sky.
Vamir casts Magic Vestments on Melzat, then the two move forward. Once they step into the short grass, Vamir takes 3 acid damage, and Melzat takes 11 acid damage, (no save) and they realize the acid came from the grass itself.
Seeing Vamir and Melzat, the two Iron Golems go into action. Number 1 takes to the air, on it's iron wings, and travels 10 ft, towards Vamir and Melzat, and number 2 walks 10 ft towards the witch and his familiar. The golems seem to be moving in slow motion.

Vamir and Melzat wisely remove themselves from the grass that they had the misfortune of identifying as Acid Grass, but not before Vamir takes another 6 acid damage, and Melzat takes another 4 acid damage. Vamir's spectral hand relays some intel about the golems. 1st) With the exception of rust attacks and rust spells, which work normally, they are immune to any spell or spell like ability, that has spell resistance, as well as acid. 2nd) Electricity causes them to be under the same effect as a slow spell for 3 rounds. 3rd) Fire removes the slow effect, and heals them. 4th) They have DR that can only be overcome by adamantine. 5th) They have a poison cloud breath weapon.
Owen disappears and is about to cast stoneskin on Atlas, but realizes Neshi already did last round.

Neshi sends two lightning bolts at golem 1, and though the creature would have been slowed by the blast, if it wasn't already slowed, by Elyngael's shock arrows, it doesn't seem to take any damage.
Atlas thanks Neshi for the stoneskin, and then takes to the air to attack golem 2. He quickly realizes that the Holy ability on his sword has no effect, and concludes that the creature isn't evil. He also offers a plan to defeat the golems.
Vamir relays the 411 that he obtained last round, and realizes his spells won't work.
Armand points out the flaw in Atlas's plan, namely the magic immunity, then protects himself from the acid grass. He steps forward, and brings his hammer down on golem 2 hitting it squarely, and asks if anyone can give Atlas some protection from acid (Not only does your hammer do an additional +2 to hit and damage, it also does 2d6 damage, instead of 1d8. I rolled the new damage dice for you and Armand did a total of 11 damage, instead of the 9 you thought he did.)
Elyngael reminds Neshi that the lighting only slows the golems, it doesn't do any damage. she repositions herself, and then lets fly with her bow at golem 1.
Golem 2 slowly pulls back and slams Armand once. The cleric is certain that normally it could slam twice if not for the slow effect caused by the electricity. Armand takes 29 bludgeoning damage. (Don't forget to take into consideration the DR given by Righteous Might)

Atlas scolds Armand for engaging an enemy in melee, and then turns around and does the same thing, trying to get the golem to see him as the bigger threat.
Armand suggests Atlas go finish off the wobbly golem number 1, and then fails to land a blow on number 2.
Neshi moves forward to flank number 2 (Is Neshi in the air or on the ground?) If Neshi is on the ground, he takes 10 acid damage from the acid grass (no save). He trows a flask of alchemist fire at the golem.
Elyngael cries out as she sees Neshi using fire on the golem, knowing fire heals it, but what she didn't know is the fire has to be of a magical order to have the benefits. (Kent asked me about this in e-mail, and after re-reading the stat block, which is a little vague, several times, I ruled that only magical fire has the desired effect. Well desired for the golems anyway.) In her concern that the golem may have been speed back up, she changes targets, and unloads on golem 2.

Elyngael fires a single arrow at the remaining golem.
Vamir puts out the flames created by the alchemist fire, before it can spread, and wonders what's down the hole, as he admires his friends skill at dispatching the golems.
Osul praises Elyngael for her massive contribution to the fight.
Neshi prepares to drop an Ice storm on the remaining golem, but realizes it is already dead. (Save your spell slot)
The remaining golem falls into a heap of iron with a resounding metallic clang, as it is overcome by the assault of the Wardens. Everyone can see that, as mentioned before, the hole looks like a giant gopher mound, meaning there is a ring of loose dirt surrounding the hole. the dirt ring is about 30ft wide, and equally deep, requiring a DC 15 climb check, to climb the loose dirt. From his vantage point, Owen can see that the hole is 30ft in diameter, and goes straight down. The wizard is incapable of seeing the bottom of the hole, due to its depth. He currently can't see anything that may be a threat.
Unless mitigated via flight or acid protection, everyone takes 2d6 acid damage, from the acid grass, traversing to the giant gopher mound. (I'll let you roll your own damage, assuming you're taking any) Once you make it to the gopher mound, you are safe from any further acid damage, though you may trip and fall prone risking humiliation, if you fail your check. Once on the top of the gopher mound all grounded Wardens see what Owen is currently seeing.

Osul offers to cast air walk on whoever Neshi can't take with him.
Owen teases Atlas and laughs.
Vamir explains that his broom is only big enough for him, though he offers to cast wind walk on the crew, so Neshi can save his spell slot.
How will our remaining heroes make it to the bottom of the hole? Will somebody else offer up some rope? Will they all fly down via wind walk, or other means? Or will they use flight, teleportation, and air walk? Tune in Monday to find out.

Vamir offers up the remaining rope needed, and then Melzat climbs down, as Vamir flyies down.
Atlas decides not to wait for Elyngael to do the scouting, and after about 20ft of travel he must make a DC 30 reflex save, or be grappled by a web trap. The web strands are so fine, that they are almost invisible in the dim light provided by Neshi's coin. If Atlas gains the grappled condition, he can make a DC 25 combat maneuver, or escape artist check to free himself.
Neshi teleports Brawn, and who ever else wishes to skip the climb to the bottom.
Armand secures the ropes, and climbs down.
Elyngael climbs down the rope and then asks if a flyer could go retrieve the rope, in case it's needed later.
Owen just watches Atlas and shakes his head. With his darkvision, he can see the fighter react to the web trap.
With everyone at the bottom, it would be hard to miss Atlas' reaction to the web trap, whether he avoids it or tries to break free from it, as a result the DC for the reflex save drops to 20, however the DC to break the grapple remains the same. How do our intrepid heroes wish to proceed.

After struggling a bit, Atlas finds himself suspended in midair by the webs. He can attempt to break free again, (DC 25) and anyone who passes a reflex save (DC 20) can attempt an aid another maneuver. The fighter asks that no flames be used in his freeing. The webs have DR 10/magic, a hardness of 15, with 20 HP, are immune to bludgeoning damage, and only take half damage from piercing weapons, assuming someone wishes to cut the fighter out.
Vamir unties the ropes, and hands each owner their ropes back. he warns Melzat of the trap, and possible presence of other traps in the area. The witch sends some dancing lights down to help further illuminate the web trap, and looks for more possible traps. He doesn't see anymore traps in the immediate area, but the burrow seems to take an abrupt left not far past the trap. His low-light vision shows no sign of recent traffic, of course that doesn't mean much in a world filled with flying creatures, and teleportation.
Owen finds Atlas's predicament funny, but gives the fighter cover, as he tries to free himself.
Osul casts "Freedom of Movement" on Atlas, and the fighter falls 6 inches to the ground, as he is instantaneously freed from the webs. Osul sees the same thing Vamir sees.
Elyngael also laughs at Atlas's expense, and then offers some wisdom about scouting. She sees what Vamir and Osul sees.
Armand puts his rope away and casts light on his glaive, further adding to the illumination of the burrow. He hopes the webs aren't an indication of spiders.
Neshi takes the time to get the lay of the land. The walls floor and ceiling are all dirt, with an occasional rock, though nothing bigger than a basketball, exposed during the excavation of the burrow. The burrow is roughly a round tube, and averages between 30 and 35 feet in diameter.
With all the added illumination, and the closer scrutiny, it is clear that the webs span the whole diameter of the burrow. You are also able to ascertain that the webs extend for about 10 ft, and you estimate it will take about 5 min to hack a path through it. How do our intrepid heroes wish to proceed?

Neshi asks if they should get Atlas out and then burn the webs away. He wonders about fumes, but is ready to cast burning hands if the consensus is to burn the webs.
As he's freed from the webs, Atlas learns to appreciate Elyngael's skills, but explains that the reason he likes taking point, even if he isn't as skilled as his elven friend, is to keep his friends from getting hurt. He's all in on web burning, and suggests Elyngael does what she does best, namely take point.
Osul waits for the webs to be burned away, as he remains vigilant. luckily nothing decides to make an appearance at the moment.
Owen also waits for the webs to burn.
Armand suggest a more mundane means to burn away the webs, saving Neshi a spell slot.
Elyngael realizes there are a few things she would like to add to her travelling kit. She agrees with Armand's idea.
Vamir flies to the surface and retrieves the bundles of grass Armand requested.
With the make shift torches Armand and Elyngael are able to light, the party makes quick work of the webs. The grass torches don't last very long, being made of dried grass, but they do release a pleasant aroma, that smells like a cross between lavender and cedar, which is a good thing, because the webs smell something awful as the burn. With the webs removed, the path is clear. A short way after the former location of the web trap, maybe 20 ft or so, the burrow takes an abrupt left. how do our heroes wish to proceed, and what is your preferred marching order? The one listed on the game Wiki doesn't include Melzat, so an updated marching order may be in order.

Since the burrow is cylindrical in shape, (think a large culvert) walking in single file is by far the most comfortable way to walk, otherwise, you are walking with one leg on a higher ground level than the other. That said the burrow averages between 30 and 35 ft in diameter, so you could, in theory, walk 3 abreast but the two outside characters would be dealing with difficult terrain. Of course with flight, the sloping walls and floor are of little consequence.
With Elyngael leading the way, the party moves forward. not far after the left hand turn, you come upon a fork in the road, or should I say burrow. There are no conceivable differences between the two paths before you, which one do you wish to take?
BTW, have we decided where Melzat will be marching? Wade do you wish him to take rear guard with Brawn?

Osul looks for a different option, then the 2 provided, but apart from earth gliding, burrowing, or digging your own tunnel, there don't seem to be any. Both passages seem to be practically identical, of course, there are slight variances due to the nature of the burrows construction, but on the whole they are basically the same.
With a straight face, Atlas cracks a joke, and suggests going right.
Elyngael tells Atlas to slow down a bit, and takes the time to examine the two tunnels. Like Osul, she finds the two to be practically identical. Oddly their don't seem to be any tracks anywhere, other than the occasional claw mark left from the digging of the burrow. It's as if the Wardens are the first to walk down this path. Of course, that doesn't mean other means of transportation haven't been used to navigate the burrow. When asked to sniff out the two options, Brawn indicates that he finds scents in both paths. Of course without a magical means to communicate, the information he gives is pretty limited, but he does seem to indicate that both have been used.
Armand doubles down on Elyngael's desire to seek the answer first, before picking a path, after dropping a few adages of his own. He casts detect magic, and an extremely faint aura pings, as though it was off in the distance and it was barely within the spells 60ft range. the odd thing is it seems to be coming from straight ahead, but of course the burrow doesn't go straight ahead, he goes left or right.
Neshi finally seems to have found his groove when it comes to making skill checks, sadly he wasn't able to take advantage of it, as the coast, as they say, is clear. I suppose one could consider that a good thing, under the circumstances.
Owen thinks just making a choice is a good thing, unless something indicates an appropriate course of action.
Vamir believes making an educated choice is wise, and the delay won't harm anyone. He has Melzat join Brawn as rear guard.
What is our intrepid heroes next course of action going to be? the only really usable intel they have been able to glean, thus far, is the odd magical aura Armand was able to detect. Brawn may know more, but without a speak with animals spell, or some other means to communicate with a wolf, it is impossible to know for sure.

Atlas is almost pleased that no real intel was forthcoming, and doubles down on going right.
Elyngael praises Brawn and wishes she would have prepared "Speak with Animals". She takes point and heads down the right tunnel.
Neshi follows Elyngael.
Armand waves Atlas on, and then follows.
Osul follows the rest, and tries a little better to determine what dug the burrow. He is sure that it wasn't a purple worm that dug the burrow, but even though the druid is pretty well educated, when it comes to these things, the digger of the burrow is a mystery to him, however, it does sort of resemble a burrow dug by a large lizard, such as a monitor lizard, though on a much larger scale, obviously.
With his dancing lights leading the way, Vamir and Melzat follows Elyngael.
As the party moves down the right hand tunnel, the burrow turns right, then makes four lefts, and another right. As you travel you don't see any sign of previous occupants, until you reach the final right hand turn. then you see the footprints of a five humanoids, possibly human or elf, a liontaur, a wolf and something that resembles treant tracks.

DM Jeremy Battle Map Tuesday February 23rd, 2021 6:08:05 AM OOC... I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that you have come to a fork in the tunnel, and the tracks you see seem to be coming from one tunnel, and heading down the other tunnel.
Atlas attempts to size up his foot with some of the humanoid footprints, and finds that one of the sets is a perfect match.
Armand does some mental mathematics, and unless his calculations are off, you went straight for about 15ft or so, took a right, walked another 30ft or so, took a left, walked 20ft or so, took another left and traveled approximately 70ft, took another left and traveled about 20ft, took another left and walked around 30ft, then took a right and walked around 15ft.
Elyngael sighs as she begins to see what happened. Upon closer examination of the tracks, the skilled tracker is convinced that these are their footprints, and that they just went in a somewhat rectangular pattern.
Neshi waits to see what the tracks have to say.
Vamir lets out a chuckle as he realizes what happened.
Osul tries to backtrack on the tracks a bit to test his hypothesis, and quickly finds the remains of the burned out web trap, and, further on, the entrance shaft. he realizes that they originally traveled south after descending the shaft, and then headed east. After the fork, they headed east then south, then east, then north, then west, then south, and then finally west.
With the astute observations of the various members, the Wardens realize they are back where they started, and that the burrow just went in a big rectangle. How do our intrepid heroes wish to proceed from here?

Though Atlas doesn't find anything, his experience has taught him that underground passageways often have hidden passages, and that there are a plethora of means to hide them.
Armand recalls his casting of detect magic, and decides to cast true seeing to see if there is anything to be seen. At the fork in the tunnel he doesn't find anything, but as he walks the circuit again, halfway around the rectangle, he finds an illusionary wall hiding another passage. The hidden passage is almost directly across (due east) of the fork in the tunnel.
Elyngael feels switching gears and checking the walls and ceilings are a good idea. As she gets to the place Armand finds the illusionary wall, she can make a DC 15 will save to disbelieve the illusion, since she would be interacting with it.
Owen offers to cast true seeing as well.
Vamir knows that not all hidden passages are hidden by secret doors, some are hidden by illusions. He doesn't find anything directly in front of him, (at the fork) but assuming he follows the others in the second go around, due to the outcome of his perception check, he would have interacted with the illusionary wall, and can make an DC 15 will save to disbelieve it.
Osul doesn't recall seeing anything in his first circuit, but is willing to attempt to walk through a wall, after true seeing has been deployed.
*****************************************
Assuming Armand points out the location of the illusionary wall, everyone who hasn't already can attempt the DC 15 will save to disbelieve it. Even if you fail the save, you can always choose to trust your friends, and risk walking into a wall. Since Armand can see through the illusion, the limited illumination offered by his light spell shows that the tunnel goes straight for the 40 or so feet he can see.

Owen holds off on casting his spell, choosing to follow the others down the new passage.
DM Jeremy Battle Map Thursday February 25th, 2021 6:07:27 AM
Osul was about to earthglide, but walking through an illusionary wall works too.
Neshi wonders whether or not the most nefarious thing about this hidden passage is the illusion. Would your friendly neighborhood DM do something that evil? Answer, maybe.
The presence of illusionary magic leads Atlas to believe that there is someone behind all this, verses just a something.
Armand points out the illusion, and suggests Owen keep his true seeing spell on deck, just in case it is needed later. He shares his agreement with Atlas on his belief of the source of the troubles.
Even though she doesn't see anything but wall, Elyngael walks where she saw Armand go, and convinces Brawn to follow as well. The wolf sniffs the illusionary wall, acts as though he is going to walk through, then takes a step back. Finally, after much coaxing from Elyngael, the large canine passes through.
Vamir sends his dancing lights ahead, and then he and Melzat pass through the illusionary wall.
Owen decides to take Armand's advice, and just walks through the illusion.

After everyone is on the other side of the illusionary wall, the party regroups and then moves forward. They come to the right hand turn, round the corner, and spot a pit filled with some green looking slimy goo. directly above the goo pit is a vertical shaft that seems to go strait up, about 20ft, before it levels off and heads east. Owen examines the green goo to see if he can identify it. Knowledge (Nature): 40.
DM Jeremy Battle Map Friday February 26th, 2021 6:02:28 AM There is about a 6 inch drop before you would hit the goo. As far as how deep the pit is, it is impossible to say based only on visual observation, because the goo is opaque. The goo is a stationary pool, and if it wasn't for the sickly green color, odor, and slimy appearance, it probably wouldn't even ping on your radar as a possible threat.
Atlas offers to fly Elyngael to the top, for scouting purposes.
Armand casts detect magic on the goo, and no auras are detected. His true seeing, while active, doesn't revel anything either. He searches his brain trying to identify the goo, and though he is pretty sure it is a naturally occurring substance he can't seem to pinpoint what it is. (To low of a knowledge nature roll) The cleric reminds Atlas that they still need to figure out how to get Brawn and Melzat up the 20 ft shaft, Which for Melzat wouldn't be too difficult, as he has the means to grip things, such as rope.
Elyngael agrees with Armand about getting the two companions up the shaft, and wonders why she hasn't found tracks from any of the, for lack of a better way to describe it, summoned creatures. She recognizes that it is very possible that the "summoner" can fly, hence no tracks from him/her/it, but unless the creatures are being "summoned" outside, that wouldn't explain why they haven't left any tracks, as such she surmises that the transplanted creatures must be being conjured outside. She gives the area the once over, and doesn't find anything other than what has already been identified.
Like Elyngael, Vamir is incapable of finding any tracks or any other "whatevers". He wishes he could carry Melzat on his broom, as he moves his dancing lights into a better position.
Owen looks at the goo and immediately recognizes it as a form of acid that clings to whatever it touches. He realizes, that unless it is washed off, the acid will keep corroding whatever it touches, due to its clinging nature.
*************************************** Assuming of course that Owen shares his knowledge with his friends, everyone should be aware of the goo's true nature. How do our intrepid heroes wish to tackle this new obstacle?

DM(James M) - Map - Badgers and Burrows Wednesday March 3rd, 2021 9:43:31 AM Atlas admits that he doesn't feel the vibrations. Vamir flies over to the shiny spot in the ceiling to look more closely at it as he announces to those below what he has found. (DM: Moved to AM24) Armand moves up and looks around to see the confines of the tunnel and checks for illusions. Neshi watches and keeps an eye on Elyngael and Vamir as they move forward. Elyngael moves forward until she can see the end of the tunnel. She tells everyone that the tunnel ends up ahead. Brawn stays in the rear. She kneels to check the floor. Owen wisely watches the rear as he looks down the staircase. Osul transformed into a huge elemental and moved forward with Vamir to look at the thing in the ceiling. (DM: Move to AJ22)
Vamir and Osul move up to look at the thing in the ceiling. What they see is a large rock with airy pockets in it. Across the face of it is a stripe of rainbow flecks that look like the rock scraped them from something.

From the size of it you can tell it might be large enough when crafted to make a greatsword or light armor. value 5,000gp. You will have to be careful removing it from the ceiling, but it is possible. With some careful digging you think you can remove it with about 50 minutes of careful work.}
Vamir and Osul KS: Nature DC 38 Highlight to display spoiler: {The flecks seem to be from a horn or claw scraping across the hard rock.}
Armand moved forward with an eye on the creatures floating overhead. His vision allows him to see the true forms of Neshi and Osul in the light of the dancing orbs. He cannot feel any vibrations in the ground. Armand Highlight to display spoiler: {Whatever Vamir and Osul has found there is a magic aura about it. Armand concentrates and picks up some abjuration magic.}
Yurr'Neshi stayed where he was and watched. All was quiet.
Elyngael knelt and checked the floor of the tunnel but found nothing unusual. She did notice that the vibrations had stopped then started again. Brawn doesn't appear to have any tremorsense, but he's nervous all the same and starting to whine a bit.
DM: Note, in order to view the object in the ceiling Osul and Vamir had to move. I've updated the positions on the map.

'Osul stares intently, wracking his brain - then light dawns. He utters a whispy, "Gouging and scraping of claw or horn - maybe both. What was that back there?" he asks, having had to pass within feet of it getting here.

Armand stares at the shiny thing in the ceiling. "Hey, guys that shiny thing in the ceiling is putting off a magical aura. I think it's the abjuration school. And there doesn't appear to be any illusionary walls up here so we either missed a secret door downstairs or up here."
He will then concentrate on the shiny object to try and see if he can determine more about what the properties of the spell involved could be. Spellcraft 18 (d20+10)

I thought the shiny thing near the ceiling was that thing at Y22, because in your map key you have it listed right next to 'near the ceiling' on your side of the key. Now there's "oo" as the shiny thing. What is Y22?
