Toston collects the gemstones and the group moves forward with Des in the lead and Hmerrin the rear guard. Gaffer wonders aloud on why the ghouls are the only ones this far, Sarge affirms it has been bothering her as well On the subject, Des questions if the gemstones somehow might be a reason. All examinations and knowledge the group currently has provides no clues. The gemstones are non magical
The group leaves behind the twists and maze like branching passages and funnel into a single passage that varies from 10-15' wide. Sarge notes the passage has a down grade to it. Several hundred feet later, this connector narrows ahead to what looks to be a 5' wide cut passage. The final 25' of the corridor, before spilling into what must be a larger chamber. The Daylight spell makes certainty impossible, but it seems as if the chamber ahead is lit.
As you take in the information, your feet pick of a ground tremor more than your ears hear the deep base.

"The second chamber is supposed to have a minor quartz deposit and malachite. Probably reflects light. There's supposed to be a narrow, steep stairway that goes down to the lower section of chamber.
If you can fly, its probably a good idea to do so.

A quick consult of the map shows the notes to mention the 3rd chamber to be the one with a ledge and descending stair. Gaffer covers the Daylight spell and the chamber ahead is indeed lit. A light of universal softness leads Sarge to conclude the source is phosphorescent and naturally occurring. The deep bass rumbles through again, prompting Gaffer to propose a scouting like mission to peek into the cavern. The druid casts Detects Pits and Snares
the cavern lies ahead and the group moves forward
Large quartz stalagmites rise from the ground and great stalactites hang high overhead in this immense cavern. Malachite veins run through the walls reflecting light everywhere from several small clumps of glowing mushrooms and lichen scattered about 2 huge Tri-pod creatures with a green mottled shell that looks to cover them completely are within, over 100' away. Their legs are like great oaks that trim to the point of a lance. One of the creatures squeels, a a sound like nails on a chalkboard, before lifting a leg and sending it into the wall with a great deep bass Boom The wall fragments and splinters like glass all about. A bright violet hose descends from the main undershell and starts to slurp up the fragments
The second creature seems to be 'sitting' the nearly 20' diameter shell rests upon the ground

He says to the rest of the group over the communal message, "I have enough 3rd level spells for up to 6 people. If Gaffer can't convince these creatures to move shall I enable us to fly around them? My flight spells would only last for 8 minutes but that would probably be enough time to navigate the next room, I just wouldn't have much spell power left for fireballs or lightning bolts."

Gaffer appraises the creatures from a distance, trying to recall if he has ever heard of such strange beings, and if they might be ones he could cloak the party from using Hide from Animals or otherwise speak with using Terran. (Nature: 22)
If he knows the spell will be of use, he says to the group, "They may be hostile if we communicate, but I can attempt to hide us instead, it might allow us to simply walk by if they aren't strong willed."
If the only option is to speak with them using Terran he will warily lead with "Hello there, sorry to walk into your territory, we mean no harm and would simply like to pass by?"
If he knows there is no way he can communicate with them, he simply shakes his head to the group. "They aren't any type of animal that I could speak with, I suggest we give them a wide berth."

Toston and Gaffer have never heard of such creatures, so foreign do they appear and sound. However, if you look at them just so, they almost resemble a Shark-Eater Crab, minus a couple legs. Perhaps some foreign dimensions version and Tostons observations lead him to believe that these creatures are also undead There will be no speaking either way, to pass Toston could use most of his remaining resources to allow the group to fly and perhaps get over them or move faster than they could follow. Hmerrin wants to save Tostons spells for more offensive purposes and moves up to get a good look himself
Gaffer is pretty sure, the two creatures are some outer planar twisted version of Shark-Eater Crabs and Toston believes them to be undead on top of it
The nearest creature sends another mighty blow into the Malchite line wall BOOM
The further one sends a leg slowly stretching along the floor to its right and then pulls it back in again. Then the shell slowly cracks as it separates to allow a purple like oyster meat to spill out where a pseudo pod extends up with an empty eyestalk that sways back and forth.

Toston sends a Fireball to the furthest creature and Gaffer casts a Wall of Thorns blocking the other in the alcove Wall of Thorns is 10x10x5 I interpreted the Wall to block the creature from spotting the group and kept it at 20'
The Crab thing hit with the fireball let out a shrill cry that hits your ears like an artic wind goes trough thin cloth. The Shell snaps back together and the creature stands to advance
The other shrieks as well, but what it is doing is hidden by the wall of thorns

As one of the creatures approaches, Gaffer calls for his Earth Elemental to move forward and attack it. At the same time he casts a second Wall of Thorns in the same makeup as the first, barring the path of Creature 1 and it's view of the party.

With a roar of effort, she yet again pushes toward T-8. Of course, now, she can only get to T-7, but she has every hope that someday she will make it.
She once again attempts to cast Searing Light. If she made it to T-7 this time, she should have line of effect to creature #2. She would like to use her rolls from yesterday, and hit Touch AC 25 for 25 damage if this thing really is undead.

The battle concluded and wounds patched, the group continues with the Daylight spell of Gaffer leading the way. The passage narrows once again and the cut of the dwarf picks and spades is evident upon the wall as the group continues. The map indicates that the chamber ahead to be one with a relatively narrow ledge to traverse to a steep stair unto the next level. Toston takes the lead and can see a bit further than the Daylight and leads the group on. The passage here is natural and large, more like an elongated cavern than a passage. Stalactites cover the roof 30-45' above and the natural floor has several collections of Stalagmites as well. Toston can hear the sound of a waterfall, but it is not getting louder by much. Ahead the cavern floor falls away into the black and the path that skirts it narrows to 10'
Toston is 80' away from the narrowing ledge and chasm that forms to the right

The young man looks around, trying to figure out what direction that sound came from. "Not sure about tying off. There's something kind of large nearby, and we may need to do some moving about shortly.
"So, my vote is Gaffer keep the lights on, we move forward steadily and against the wall as Dez suggests, and one we reach that 10' wide section, use the pitons. Of course, if the ground starts getting slippery or whatever, we change plans."

With the gaping chasm on one side several suggestions are brought up. Stealth, roping up, some could fly, Wall spells some how... Hmerrin selects, Dez's move stealthily and at he narrow section, rope up with some piton hand holds. Gaffer's Daylight illuminates the area 60' all around him, so seeing where you are going is pretty simple.
As you enter the chamber, the sound of the waterfall is still ahead and quite distant. There is no moisture or wetness upon the ledge. The ceiling is covered in stalactites and Gaffer spies movement
Climbing through the stalactites towards party are spider things. 5 spider-like creatures skitter along the ceiling towards the party. They have 12-18 legs and large bulbous translucent bodies the size of a fully grown human.

Assuming the filament is still connected to the spiders Gaffer quickly casts Wall of Stone to create a five foot high barrier from AJ15-AJ27 so that the party can brace against it.

"Anybody got any idea how to keep Dez from falling?" he asks Des stows his corssbow and pulls out his axe, readying to strike the foul thing that has him ensnared Toston casts Fly and launches himself out to get Des Gaffer shifts to Huge Air Elemental the increase in size, strength and agility make it easy for him to pull away from the creature. However as he does so, his staff merges with his body and with it, the Daylight spell Gaffer can try to wrench the creature from the ceiling with a successful CMB vs the Spider CMD of 30 From where Gaffer is now, 60' below the the ledge, he can see the bottom of the cavern, a further 40' away
Fortunately Toston is right with the paladin and the Light from his metemagic rod allows the holy warrior to see his target as he is drwan in Hmerrin is lit in torchlight himself and can see the orb of light where Toston and Des are

Des strikes and kills the spider BEFORE it is able to attack. Des, you are not poisoned and you were not damaged Toston casts Fly on Des, and the paladin only drops a couple feet bfore 'catching' himself. you can remain right where you are and be within 45' of all of them Sarge takes out her Rope of Climbing and quickly locates a location to secure and does so Hmerrin looks for a target and in teh light of Toston's Metamagic rod he spies one and fires. Hitting #3 Gaffer closes on the spider and transforms into a whirlwind as he does so. The winds buffet the thing, but does not disloged it hold upon the ceiling
Toston has a moment and a pretty good view of the monstrosities about the ceiling, he concludes that these creatures are also undead.

Sarge grabs the Rope of Climbing in one hand and her warhammer in the other. She does not plan to resist when the spider tries to reel her in; her plan is to whack the thing with the hammer when she gets there.
Sarge readies an action to hit the spider with the warhammer when she gets in melee range. If her ready goes off, she hits AC 22 for 11 damage.
Desdichado feels himself falling as he ends the existence of Spider-creature #2, and then is surprised to be suddenly floating in midair. "Whoa, thanks, Toston," he says, "That would have been one doozy of a last step. "And thanks for the tip about these being undead, too."
Feeling a bit disoriented at staying in midair, he weighs his options. Being naturally ungraceful, and used to wearing heavy armor, he's a bit unsure of how well he can fly. He quickly thinks that channeling energy might be his most effective option for the moment.

[Sorry, I forgot to remove the armour part of my AC, which makes my AC stay the same, so one of those attacks should have hit.]
If still able to fly freely Gaffer will move between spiders 1, 3 and 4 to see if he can pull any of them into the whirlwind, making sure to avoid Des and Toston in the middle.
If he fails again at pulling any spiders from the wall he will revert to the none-whirlwind air elemental form. If he succeeds in pulling any free then he will move 15 feet below the ceiling and eject them.

Spider 3 is dead, switching target to Spider 4 concelament 20%, 46 Hit Gaffer remains where he is diaorientating the Spider in the whirlwind
