The Twins (Mitch) HP 38/38 AC 24/12/22 Saves +4 Fort/+3 Ref/+1 Will
Wednesday April 28th, 2021 8:21:49 AM

The Twins eat and are happy to go look at the door come morning.

Honor Bright (Kathy)
Wednesday April 28th, 2021 11:25:22 AM

"Yes, I would like to try this door," Honor says. "And thank you for your hospitality."

It seems to Elron as if their differences are settled, which means that it's time to enjoy these subwoldian delicacies that were mentioned. And, if he doesn't overindulge tonight, to be ready in the morning for the task ahead.

DM Kim: A meal before The Quest to Pass the Door
Thursday April 29th, 2021 1:45:11 AM

Nilyndryl again lifts her goblet, and joins Mundhildur in her toast along with Asimov, taking a sip of the red wine.

She sets down the goblet, and says, "You have our gratitude." It seems her heart is brimming with joy, if you were to judge by her countenance. "Some of my stewards will show you your rooms in the D'gul holdings, where you may safely stow what you wish, and then they will guide you to where we will enjoy a small banquet."

Zulok says, "If you want anything from the cart or your animals, come with me."

The party can retrieve what they want, or leave what they choose. Zulok promises to see that the animals are stabled and cared for. If you want any animals to come with, of course you may do so - he will have them to you in the morning. He says there are some stables through another opening. Out the left side of the cave entrance (left as you exit), along the hillside and down a few hundred yards is another cave, with places to stable animals. It would not be impossible for the party to attempt to bring the cart, but it would have to be partially disassembled then reassembled inside. And there's no telling whether it could make it through whatever passage(s) there may be on the other side of the doorway.

Simply post what you plan to include, and list those things before the weekend is over.

There are four rooms, so some will need to room together. One room has two very large beds - either one is more than enough for someone of Mundhildur's size. Another room is strewn along one side with fresh hay laid over a bed of soft moss, and a medium-sized bed on the other side of the room. There is a room with four beds as well, and a simple room with two beds.

As the stewards - two male, two female, take the party on to the dining place, they stop, look and listen for a moment at a few intersections before leading the group onward.

The banquet room has a few everburning torches, and a few oil lamps to provide illumination. A good meal of subsurface food is provided. Purple worm steaks with a cranberry and violet fungus reduction. Lichens and hollow bread that you put of crop of some kind of syrup into before eating. The bread is sweet and buttery. The sap is more tangy than sweet. A glass filled with the yellowish sap is provided to Elron, along with many fresh mint leaves. The beverages you enjoyed in the meeting room are also provided here, as well as an effervescent beer. And yes, if you wish, there are seconds, even thirds if desired.

The matriarch Nilyndryl joins the group for the first fifteen minutes, when one of her two males-in-waiting enters and whispers into her ear. "Please excuse me," she says to the group. "A matter has arisen I must attend to. Stay, eat, enjoy. The stewards will return you to your rooms when you are finished, and I shall see you at breakfast. Any last question for me? I can stay but a moment longer. My apologies for departing so early."

Mundhi makes certain she retrieves Elron's sleeping perch. Also the spare axle and cart wheels she brought along in case repairs were necessary, and the pins and small parts which allow the wheels to attach to the axle, plus a few boards. She fetches additional gear, and makes arrangements to have her two mules sent along in the morning, indicating the pack saddles and saddle bags they should wear when brought, containing various tools and items..

She is happy to find an extra-large bed with plenty of room to wiggle her toes and stretch out her arms. "Who would like the other bed?" she asks.

She likes trying the different foods they are offered. She likely takes advantage of thirds - but nothing beyond that. Mundhi's mouth is full as Nilyndryl asks if there are questions, so she does not offer any.

Asimov has everything he needs either on his person or with Honor though now that he has Irony he wonders if he should get a backpack for the mechanical minion and put the items that would be too cumbersome for him to carry in the charge of his minion. (OOC: can I buy a backpack and transfer some items into Irony's care?)

Honor Bright (Kathy)
Thursday April 29th, 2021 2:04:56 PM

Honor has a slight preference for rooming with Mundhildur ("Tall girls should stick together," she says with a little laugh), but she doesn't insist on it.

She brings only her pack, which has what she needs. She gets cleaned up and changes clothes to attend the banquet.

At the banquet, she tries a little bit of everything, accepting seconds of the dishes she especially likes.

Hmm... With Honor and Mundhildur together and the Twins with Zeoll, it looks like Elron can have a room to himself. He does not overindulge at the party, and bends only a few ears talking about muddling the mint (something he actually knows little about). So when the morning comes, he's ready to go. He carries his normal gear, but exhibits unusual foresight in declaring that a rope may be handy -- he'd looked a really nice magical one, but couldn't afford it after his other purchases.

After dining, back in the room, Mundhi talks about the day. Regarding the drow lady, she says, "She is so pretty. And is excited to have us help them. I didn't like how she yelled at you, though. Well, it wasn't really a yell, more of a snarl. But then she calmed down. What do you think? Mostly she was nice, but... well, the food was tasty."

Asimov can be provided a simple common backpack for no charge (value 2 gp, 2 cubic feet internal storage, plus 1 side pocket about a dry quart in size). They have some fancier ones, but they range from 25gp [Backpack, Weaponrack: This leather backpack includes a small weapons rack. The rack holds up to four weapons, such as battleaxes, longswords, maces, or short swords. Allies adjacent to you can retrieve a weapon from the rack as a move action without provoking attacks of opportunity, as if they were simply drawing a weapon. Like a normal backpack, it can hold 2 cubic feet of material in its main compartment.] to 50gp [Backpack, Masterwork: This backpack has numerous pockets for storing items that might be needed while adventuring. Hooks are included for attaching items such as canteens, pouches, or even a rolled-up blanket. It has padded bands that strap across the chest and the waist to distribute its weight more evenly. Like a common backpack, it can hold about 2 cubic feet of material in its main container. When wearing a masterwork backpack, treat your Strength score as +1 higher than normal when calculating your carrying capacity.]

Elron can have 50' of hemp rope for no charge (value 1gp). The drow of house D'gul seem to want the party to succeed.

DM Kim. Food, Rest. Gear and beast delivery. More food.
Friday April 30th, 2021 3:25:06 AM

Most of the food is quite pleasant. Some will be unfamiliar, yet, depending upon one's palate of course, not unappealing so.

Zeoll is able to observe that no one seems ill or visibly affected in a negative manner by the food eaten. Of course, if any imbibed more than a few glasses of alcoholic beverages, there may be discernible effects.

No one is awakened by snoring. The beds provide decent comfort. Eventually someone comes to waken the crew to get ready for the day and breakfast.

Does Zeoll plan to have his camel along, or is stabling fine? The two mules are brought with the gear specified.

Breakfast offers small boiled eggs in a leathery shell. You learn they are fresh eggs of a serpent. The syrup again is offered, and more mint leaves for Elron. Lichens. Some sort of crunchy cereal mixed with nuts. Good bread, and a few other items to give one energy for the day, including meat in long strips. It tastes rather like chicken.

Zulok shows up as the crew finishes breakfast. "I know from observation some of you take an hour in the morning for daily preparations. So, in an hour and a quarter your guides to the door will be ready to take you. I have another assignment for the moment, but I hope you have success. Perhaps I will see you some other time."

0: nanobot repair capsule (mending),light emitter (light), corrosive pistol (acid splash), open slot (can take time to prepare something)
1st: fire-handling gloves (produce flame), wrist rockets (magic missile), Door detector (detect secret doors), open slot (can take time to prepare something)

"Very well. Honor, Mundhildur, please have your entourage follow us." Pellabrina seems to have had a little difficulty deciding how to treat the Twins before lumping them into entourage. As the party leaves the area with her, they are shortly joined by a male drow who introduces himself as Ecylndryl. He carries a sunrod, although you doubt he needs it.

Pellabrina enjoys talking about the things they have found as she and Ecylndryl lead the group through the tunnels. But she speaks to the women of the party, and allows Ecylndryl to answer any questions from the men.

In time, the group reaches tunnels with increasing amounts of rubble, until finally Pellabrina announces they are almost at the door. Ecylndryl and Pellabrina stand at the entrance to the chamber but do not proceed inside. “Inside is the room we have uncovered. We have removed what we could, but as discussed, there is a door that we cannot open. There are no handles nor key holes. Attempts by my scholars to solve this puzzle have not ended well” Ecylndryl offers the sunrod to whoever wants to take it, although the party can see that there is light in the next room.

Right now everyone is outside the chamber where the door is, as are the two drow. There is a path cleared through about 15' of rubble to a hole in the wall of the cave.

The Twins quickly pick up on the gender dynamics going on and, naturally, immediately start messing with the drow. In their armor it's impossible to tell which is the male and which is the female, and they've been wearing it the whole time they were among the drow, so they engage both drow in conversation on and off, dropping their dual way of speaking for a more familiar one on one dialog while doing their best to trade off anytime either drow seems to get comfortable or start to assume whoever they're talking to is one gender or the other. Their voices are androgynous and identical, making identification even harder.

If either drow directly confronts them on what gender they are the answer is "We are duality." "Male and Female" "Warrior and scholar" "They is the appropriate pronoun."

Honor is a little puzzled by Pellabrina's apparent preference, but doesn't waste a lot of time trying to figure it out. She is eager to see this door, and moves into the other room with her companions.

Mundhildur, Asimov, and Honor

Those inside the room note that, aside from the musty atmosphere, there is a definite “old” feel to this chamber. Hewn from rock, the floor is worked to resemble flagstones and the walls are intermittently decorated with mock brickwork. Arrows - some broken, some splintered - litter the cold floor.

Lit torches sit in sconces along the walls, casting flickers of light throughout the open chamber.

Thick spiderwebs cover the ceiling appearing like billowing clouds overhead. In the corners, they drape almost to the floor, but the center is cleared well above head height (for a drow).

On the other side of the room can be seen a massive stone door with a carving of a spider web covering the entire set of doors. In the centre of the spider web where the doors meet is a small carved stone face. Puffy cheeks and a bulbous nose, it looks almost gnomish.

Asimov: Highlight to display spoiler: {As Asimov examines the door, he notices writing above it. In Undercommon, it says, "The password is spider."}

When Asimov gets close, the face in the door animates. It says something like, "Salaan iyo sharaf sharaf martida sharafta badan."

Zeoll, Twins, and Elron

Those who have not entered the room yet hear Ecylndryl answer, "We don't actually know what they tried. They were attacked by spiders that appeared from thin air."

Asimov tries to puzzle out what it was that the door asked him, leery if it is asking for a password what saying the wrong password might do.
He isn't sure if the undercommon equivalent of the word spider is the appropriate answer or not and rather than blurt the wrong thing out loud he whispers to Munhildur, "I am trying to puzzle out what the door just asked me and I am leery of giving it the wrong answer. Apparently there is an inscription scribbled over the door in undercommon that says the password is spider but it can't be that easy. Maybe figuring out what the door just asked me would give me a better clue."

Now that Asimov points out the inscription, she reads it silently. "Ohhh," she says. She whispers back, speaking in common, "I see what it says, and it is undercommon. Or underwoldian. Yes, let us take care with this one. If the spoken words we just heard also were undercommon," (which, if it is, Mundhi and Asimov ought to know), then I'd be fine trying it out. But perhaps we should have most people step out. And be ready to be as friendly as we can toward eight-legged critters, eh?"

Not certain why, but she feels reluctant to immediately reveal the key to the drow. Why could they not see it themselves, earlier?

In a loud voice, she says, "We have something which may signal danger." She ties a rope to her right leg, and hands the other end to - Honor. "Let Asimov and me see if we can do this thing. If something happens, and I fall to the ground, unable to move, perhaps my friends can drag me out."

Zeoll yelps at the pain of that bite! And his save of 15 does not help either.

The greensinger beats a hasty retreat (assuming he can after being poisoned), using the withdraw action to avoid provoking an AOO.
